Christian Dior Fahrenheit Absolute, Carolina Herrera CH Men ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 July 2009 43 Comments

Christian Dior Fahrenheit Absolute cologne for menCarolina Herrera CH Men fragrance

Christian Dior will launch Fahrenheit Absolute, a darker, "more intense" version of 1988's Fahrenheit fragrance for men, this August (and see also: 2007's Fahrenheit 32).

The fragrance notes include violet, myrrh, incense and oud.

Dior Fahrenheit Absolute will be available in 50 and 100 ml. (via vogue.fr, menstyle.fr)

Carolina Herrera will introduce CH Men, the masculine counterpart to 2007's Carolina Herrera CH Women. CH Men was inspired by the notion of travel, and based on five concepts: adventure, savoir faire, passion, eccentricity and elegance.

The fragrance notes feature mandarin, bergamot, grapefruit peel, saffron, nutmeg, jasmine, violet, wood, ambergris, vanilla, moss, burnt sugar and leather.

Carolina Herrera CH Men will launch in September; I'll update with sizes and concentrations when I can find them. (via elmundo.es)

Update: Carolina Herrera CH Men was developed by perfumer Emilie Coppermann, and will be available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via cosmeticnews)

I think I’d like to wear both of these. 🙂

I agree – they both sound interesting. Might be one of those fragrances I get for DH, then steal for myself. 🙂

The CH Men definitely sounds like something that I need to try – I don’t know that the CEO would be interested since I can’t get him out of Drakkar Noir (good think I like it), but that’s never stopped me from wearing a masculine before.

LOL – that’s so funny – my DH wears Drakkar Noir too (has worn it forever)! I do like it on him, but have tried to get him to wear other frags for a little variety. He did wear the Varvatos Vintage I got him – yum! But then he saw a huge bottle of Drakkar at Costco for a great price and had to have it. 🙁

I would go on a guerilla campaign of random spritzing, but I could probably only get him while he was asleep and then he’d just shower it off in the morning.

Maybe I should try the old “I’ll bet this would smell sooooooo sexy on you” tactic – of course, his response to most things like that is “ummm… you already married me, you know”. Fortunately, that works both ways, as he is frequently puzzled by my beauty routine under the theory that he liked me just fine and sees no need for improvement. After 15 years, the fact that I am a fickle creature (when it comes to beauty products and fragrance) doesn’t seem to have sunk in.

DH Men sounds very good….might get it for the CEO, but wouldn’t be surprised if it finds it’s way into my perfume cabinet….for safe keeping of course!

I’m after the Dior myself…a darker Fahrenheit would be really nice.

I’m sure I’ve smelled Fahrenheit more times than I could count, but I honestly don’t remember what it smelled like. I remember not loving it back in the 90s. I wonder if it and/or flankers still sell well.

Have not tried any CH scents.

I like Fahrenheit. Did not like Fahrenheit 32. This one has possibilities…

I have a female friend who wears Fahrenheit often and I love it on her (reformulation and all), not sure I’d wear it myself. But throw a little incense and oud in anything, I ‘d probably wear it!

My Beautiful Late Sister used to wear Fahrenheit as well…. it smelled so damn great on her! I love the scent myself in the extreme and am looking forward to this “INTENSE” Version. I do Like Fahrenheit 32 though, it is very Clear and Fresh and Aromatic on me, sweeter than you’d think, but i like it very much, though can’t see Res (My Departed Sis) wearing it in any way, not bold enough for her!

I’ve always liked Carolina Herrera’s perfumes. From her signature fragrance (who has an interesting backstory on its own) to 212.

The only one that I’ve actually owned was the limited edition Herrera for Men Ginger, that was a dream! 🙂

Here in Buenos Aires, the 212s (and its flankers) have become a staple male office fragrance. There is something non-threatening and reassuring that makes the heterosexual males flock to this like bees to honey. It is everywhere so I avoid it.

I’ve found most of the others (Aqua for men, women’s CH, Chic, etc.) boring. They were run of the mill, more interesting than a cheap fragrance, but without enough “body” to lure me in.

Oh, the Ginger sounds nice — had not heard of that! Otherwise, have really not loved the few CH scents I’ve tried.

Excited to hear about Fahrenheit Intense! When i first read it I was thinking maybe it was an excuse to bring it back in the reformulated but then saw incense and oud and lost my hope. Not that those aren’t good notes but they might make it turn into an altogether different fragrance and they’ll probly have some random perfumer do it and it’ll turn out subpar ;(

    Hi R,

I sampled the new CH for women and it was disappointing. I described it on PoL as a love child of EL Sensuous and Flowerbomb.

    OMG!
Last year, when Fahrenheit (the fragrance of my life) completed 20 years, I thought it would be fantastic if Dior decided to launch an edp version to celebrate its anniversary, because the reformulation let me totally frustrated. Well, this one is not exactly what I dreamed of but I’m truly excited about it.

Was Fahrenheit Reformulated??? I Thought it smelled less… Diesel-ish (and by that i mean diesel fuel) than it used too. DAMN DIor!

Everything has been reformulated. Literally. I doubt there is a (mainstream) fragrance on the planet from as far back as 1988, or even 1998, that has not been reformulated.

I smelled CH Men in Gatwick airport last week! It was pleasant enough and had very good longevity, but reminded me of something else that I used to wear years ago. I was midly impressed though, but will have to try it again.

I love Fahrenheit (although I don’t actually own a bottle as it’s never heavily discounted online) and love anything ‘absolute’ or ‘intense’, so I’ll definitely be getting a bottle when it’s released – even if it means buying at full retail cost!

ouch. all 3 citruses as topnotes? hmmm

might still try it as the vanilla and leather sound nice. altho i lotta frags end up being very topnote heavy on me. like, only the topnotes last. everything else seems to sizzle away.

Petrol and incense? I’m in there straightaway!

My only question is what brave perfumer burnt incense in a gas station to find out how the smells would combine…

Petrol – or gasoline – is what the original Fahrenheit smelled of. I’ve always loved the smell of petrol (as do most of the women I know), and thus really enjoyed Fahrenheit. As I love incense too, I am looking forward to smelling this one. Throw in a whiff of sulphur and you could have a truly incendiary scent…

Robin, both my bros bdays are coming up(the 20th and the 27th) and im wondering if you have any suggestions? Ones gonna be 22 and the other 21. Is there anything new and exciting out there? It doesnt have to be new. My bros fav is Allure Homme Sport, i know, scary right! I dont care for it but he loves it. He just finished his last bottle and wants something different for the 1st time in 5 yrs! My other bro wore Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme. All and any suggestions would be great! Thanks a million!

I really like Allure Homme Edition Blanche, if you can still find it (it was limited edition):

Might also be worth checking out the new Guerlain Homme Intense, which I haven’t smelled yet. Another favorite men’s this year is JV Artisan, but don’t know if that would suit either of them (not sure it qualifies as “exciting”).
