Marc Jacobs Splash Sorbet ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 6 February 2008 40 Comments

Marc Jacobs Splash Sorbet 2008The Splash collection from Marc Jacobs acquires three new sorbet-inspired fragrances this month: Basil, Grapefruit and Pear.

Basil, in pale green, is a "musky cologne with green accents" developed by perfumer Andrea Lupo.

Grapefruit, also created by Lupo, is pink and evokes the "sparkling, moist scent of pink grapefruit".

Pear is yellow, and entails "slightly ambry-woodsy notes of pear / pear skin". It was developed by perfumer Honorine Blanc.

The Marc Jacobs Splash collection fragrances are in 300 ml Eau de Toilette, and are limited edition. They can be worn alone or layered. (quotes via osmoz, additional information via moodiereport)

More Marc Jacobs Splash: Summer Splash: Rain, Grass & Cotton, Autumn Splash: Ivy, Violet & Amber, Cucumber Splash & Orange Splash.

Other recent fragrances from Marc Jacobs: Marc Jacobs Daisy.

Oh, what pretty colours! You could sell me anything if it's the right combination of pastels. And basil is a note I love. But not one of the Marc Jacobs Splashes has made more than a brief impression on me, so I'm not holding out hope. Will enjoy sniffing, though!

It's a great print ad, isn't it? I liked the colors right away. But I haven't cared for any of the MJ Splash scents so far either, although I know lots of people like them.

What a mouthwatering ad! Makes me long for fresh drinks and sorbets and smoothies. Spring must be coming soon.

coolest perfume print ad I've seen in a long time. I don't care for his splashes either, but for a split second, I was thinking, WANT.

I've been also disappointed by the recent MJ splashes – Cucumber was quite bad and Orange just didn't have that oomph that Burr mentioned in his review of it.

I adore his Ivy splash (which is quite hard to find anymore) it has the most subtle wonderful candy cane accord in the middle of this mossy, woody base – wonderful stuff.

The Basil and Pear sound intriguing. Grapefruit…I'm thinking I don't need yet another grapefruit scent.

Basil could be good, but so far, they're all too “fresh” for my taste — the first time I tried one at Bloomingdales, the SA mistakenly told me they were linen sprays, not for personal use, and they've all struck me as just that.

I'm excited to try pear and citrus. I know what I hope these smell like, but I can't wait to actually smell them. That ad makes me want to buy all three just so I can see the colors together.

very refreshing indeed, but I am guilty of having a bad impression of MJ's splash. I was so very disappointed to Grass last year (I really want to like it cos I like the smell of fresh grass…)…so I don't know… If I must try one…hm.. colour-wise I would go for green, but pear sounds ok if it's not to sweet….

    Easter colors!
May be another potential cure for SAD. Especially the basil….mmmmmm….

Was just thinking it was going to be a very long wait for Guerlain Mandarine Basilic to get to TJ Maxx (love it, won't pay full price). Who knows, maybe the MJ Basil will be fabulous.

Well, everyone seems so skeptical, and I have no experience with Marc Jacobs, so perhaps my earlier enthusiasm was ill advised. I think what I really need is a bottle of Vent Vert. Or maybe what I really need is to go to sleep for a month and wake up to Spring. Hope you were able to get outside today – they say it's going to get cold again later this week here in SEPA.

LOL — we're always skeptical though, so best to ignore it and go try it for yourself, right? So far today, still warm enough to wear a jacket instead of a coat, so I'm happy.

I have smelled all three and Pear is my favourite. It definitely could be either a male or female fragrance. It smells like pears with something extra added.

The Grapefruit is OK…nothing special. It would be fine for a refreshing splash apres a workout.

The Basil would have been better if it were more intense. I was hoping for something along the lines of Manifesto.

I have had the Grapefruit for nearly three months now and wear it at least 4 days a week. It is perfect in hot weather. I love it.

I mean Pea, My fav. I think Grapfruit is too CK Summer 2007.

this is a very pretty scent. good smell :)

but the problem is the scent isn't too long :(

    it's shade so early.

You mean it's short-lived, right? That's the problem w/ all the Splash scents. Personally, I don't think any of them are worth the money.

    It seem to be confirmed.

I'm a huge fan of Britney and check her update every single day !

She already shot promotion ads !

Hidden Fantasy will smell Cherry with a hint of Vanilla.

The bottle is same as Fantasy but get a red colour !

ps. thanks for name her at upcoming part !

Yeah, I saw that. I dunno how I'll feel about the smell. I think Vanilla is worn the hell out. Can't wait to see the notes and the bottle, but I think red is too close to pink. Hope we'll get a lotion with this one also. That small lotion that Midnight Fantasy had only came with the set, and I don't buy sets

C'mon ! there has a lot of red colour !

but I'm pretty sure that it would be a deep red !

and yeah ! I can imagine a cherry scent.

But with a vanilla ? really have no clue lol!

guess we have only wait and see :)
