Christian Dior Midnight Poison ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 2 August 2007 13 Comments

Christian Dior Midnight Poison perfume

Christian Dior has launched Midnight Poison, the fifth fragrance in the Poison range (see Poison, Tendre Poison, Hypnotic Poison and Pure Poison):

The ambry-woodsy-rosy fragrance was designed by Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp / Firmenich, in collaboration with François Demachy, LVMH’s in-house fragrance designer. A perfume with a fruity opening of mandarin orange and bergamot, and a rose heart evolving towards a seductively ambry-woodsy trail of patchouli, amber and French vanilla.

Christian Dior Midnight Poison is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (quote via osmoz, additional information via sephora)

Update: here is the ad visual for Christian Dior Midnight Poison, featuring French actress Eva Green, who recently starred in Casino Royale. The tag line reads "A new Cinderella is born". (image via the forums at Images de Parfums)

Update: see a review of Christian Dior Midnight Poison.

I'm going mad, I think…is this actually new? It seems awfully familiar. Am I mixing it up with something else? Wasn't there another Midnight something from Dior at Christmas?

You know, I was prompted to go back and read your (excellent) reviews of the other four Poisons, and there was a lot of conjecture about what version would be next (remember the comments about “Poison Sport”? Ha ha!) since we all knew very well that there *would* be more. Well, “Midnight Poison” it is…I will give it a sniff, but only out of curiosity and the link to the illustrious original and because it's Dior. Truthfully, I'm so turned off by the preponderance of flankers these days, it makes me not even want to give them a chance. Is it so hard to come up with a completely new fragrance?! Also, the dark blue bottle and the “Midnight” moniker resemble Britney Spears' “Midnight Fantasy” too much for my comfort level (though I'm sure it's not intentional…or at least I hope not, ha ha!)

Ah, thanks, Kiki! That's what I was thinking of – Midnight Fantasy.

There was also a holiday release Dior Midnight Charm eau de Noel. I'll have to try Midnight Poison. It sounds intriguing.

Kiki, we'll see what they do with it. I do like Hypnotic Poison, and who knows, maybe this one will be as good? But you're right, it does call up Midnight Fantasy and that is not a good sign!

Hope you'll manage to test it soon then! The notes aren't very detailed, but it could be quite nice.

Jacques Cavallier brewed Stella for Ms. McCartney, and seeing “ambry” and “rosy” makes me pause. Might he have now bred a Stella/Poison hybrid? I don't know, but “French vanilla” has me anti-excited.

    Aha — didn't even think of that! We'll see…

I'm late to read this notice, R! But I can't wait to try this new Dior. Last year's Midnight Charm turned into a huge success for me, and it quickly climbed into my top ten all time greats! I was surprised to love it that much.

By the way, the Dior counter manual shows that patchouli is a top note for this scent. Surprising! I've never seen or heard of patch as a top note.

Interesting, because I've heard it smells like the original Poison in the top notes but not the dry down. I'm hoping to try it this week!
