Snippets: Celebs, Le Parfum

Posted by Robin on 25 September 2006 5 Comments

Perfumer Neil Morris rates some of the recent celebrity fragrance releases in The Boston Herald. On Baby Phat Golden Goddess:

I like it the best out of all of them. It’s pleasant and fun for young women 18 to 35. I like it because it’s well-blended, it’s round and it has really clean edges. Nothing jumps out at you.

I wasn’t expecting to like it but that shows, you can’t be judgmental.

Columnist Bethan Cole writes about the new Thierry Mugler Le Parfum set, created by Christoph Hornetz and perfumer Christophe Laudamiel to tie in with the release of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer:

The whole collection is an inspired evocation, with several scents that I’d actually wear. For lovers of the book, it’s the ultimate accessory.

The set is now available at Roja Dove's Haute Parfumerie at Harrods. Read the rest in The Times Online, or read more about the Le Parfum set at Osmoz (link no longer working, sorry), or check out the Le Parfum website.

The Boston Herald article- what's with all the age recommendations? This is for 35-45, this is for 25-35, this is for 16-17…Well, yeah, something smells (subjectively) younger than something else, but they make it sound as if there is a secret formula of some sort that would let you figure out the age-appropriatness of a scent. I'd love to know for what kind of age group they'd recommend Mitsouko or Tabac Blond.

did anyone notice the following Re: Perfume/the perfume set (Times Online article): “The first scent is the smell of a newborn, a creamy eau of freshly washed baby skin, a confection of whipped cream, îles flottantes, crème fraîche, warm milk and brown sugar.”

Interesting. The whole point of the book was that the baby had no scent.

It is probably because while Grenouille did not, other babies have scent. In one of the first chapters, the wetnurse describes at length the caramel-like scent of an infant's head.
