Top 10 Summer Fragrances 2005

Posted by Robin on 17 August 2005 32 Comments

It has been an unusually hot summer where I live. Really, really unusually hot. And humid. We have had so many "Severe Weather Alerts" that I hardly pay attention to them anymore.

Here are some of my favorite fragrances that remain wearable even when the temperatures are climbing past 90 and it is so humid that your glasses fog the minute you go outside. It is a completely different (and more citrus-oriented) list than I would have come up with in late June or early July (and possibly a different list than the one I would do tomorrow). The fragrances are presented in alphabetical order, with links to those I have already reviewed.

Annick Goutal Eau du Sud
Carthusia Mediterraneo
Chanel Cristalle Eau de Toilette
Christian Dior Eau Sauvage
Guerlain Eau de Guerlain
Guerlain Vetiver
Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil
L'Artisan Thé Pour Un Été
Ormonde Jayne Isfahan
The Different Company Divine Bergamote

Want to see more Top 10 Summer Fragrance lists? Check out An Alabaster Brow, Bois de Jasmin, Blogdorf Goodman, Brain Trapped in Girl's Body, C'est Chic, Koneko's *Mostly* Beauty Diary, Life in Paris, Ombligo!, Seldom Nice Nowadays , Self-Styled Siren, She'll Be Feverish After So Much Thinking, and This Bananafish Smells Like Leaves.

And of course, feel free to add your own list to the comments.

N, you are so kind — it is almost all citrus so I know you can't possibly like it, LOL!! Must say again that I just loved the visuals on your post 🙂

You know R – there was a phase in my life when I ADORED citrussy perfumes. I think it that I perhaps overdid then! Life teaches you not to love anything in excess in case you get tired of it.

Glad you liked the visuals R!

    xoxo

Oops. none of your list is a fave of mine. But I love seeing yours and those of others! Mine for this year are: Extrait de Songe, CB Iris, CB Lin, Cinq Mondes Eau Egyptienne ( brand new fave!), Susanne Lang Lemongrass and her Clementine, Patou Vacances, AA Pivoine Magnifique, Blu Med Arancia and Miller Harris Jasmin Vert.

    Morning L!

SL Lemongrass sounds very nice, will have to look for that one. And you know I love Jasmin Vert 🙂

Little something coming your way today.

Thanks to you, I have and love JV! Penelope is sending me samples of Cuir d'Oranger and the bourbon geranium one. I'll keep you posted and share, too! Do you want a decant of Eau Egytienne perchance–maybe I've already asked you this?

    Signed,

BLAOH, Can't make up my mind about the Eau Egyptienne yet. Might be too much cumin for me, but have only given it a very brief try. VERY curious about the 2 other MHs, do let me know how they are!

I struggled over whether to put on Guerlain Vetiver or not, and it turned out not. Happy to see it on yours!

I really need to try Pour in ete. It has made most of the lists.

I love OJ's Isfahan. It is a great fragrance for spring. I am not sure if it is FBW yet. I really want a new bottle of Champaca and Tolu.

Thanks for doing this R! It was fun!

T, I struggled with every single position on that list, and realized only this morning that I didn't include a single one of my favorite green scents that I've been wearing all summer. 10 is not enough.

A, I am so glad you love Isfahan too! I need a few more OJ bottles myself. Ta'if is probably next in line.

Do try the Thé, it is a great fragrance.

R, what a great list! You have all of my favourites that I did not put on my own, such as Guerlain Vetiver, Carthusia Mediterraneo, Eau de Guerlain, Sur Le Nil and Eau Sauvage. I love this!

Thank you so much V! Next time we will just have to make the number more than 10, I am sure we all left tons of favorites off our lists.

I love how you all coordinated publishing your list on the same day. Very clever!

Aargh — more lemmings! Top of the list is DC Divine Bergamote. This note works very well on me.

Hi Iris, Glad you like the lists!

TDC Bergamote is a great fragrance! Try to get a spray sample; a little dab from a vial doesn't do it justice.

brilliant list! I can't believe I forgot Chanel Cristalle. Oh, I'm definitely on the Ormonde Jayne Isfahan love train. I need to write a formal review already, but I just love it.

Lovely list Robin. So many of us seem to like the Divine Bergamot – I shall have to give it a whack one of these days.

Fantastically summery list, R! I have both Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Divine Bergamote on my list and I love many of the others, esp. Eau Sauvage and Guerlain Vetiver. Mmmmm. Must try Isfahan soon and get on the OJ train.

I need to try The Different Company Divine Bergamote now that I've seen it on three lists! I can't believe I too left off Guerlain's Vetiver! It was sad having to cut some of my favorites! Thanks to you and Victoria for compiling such a fun project!

Too bad indeed. I'm sure at some point someone will take pity and send me a sample, or else I am fairly sure that if I keep poking at Ebay I'll be able to score a wee decant. I think you're right – TDC certainly seemed to me to be the one most commonly mentioned.

Great list, Robin! Sorry I couldn't participate, but I have been thinking about this list. Unfortunately I can't wear much of anything this summer except Carrement Belle Musc because it's light as balsa wood, but perennial summer faves (in no particular order) are:

    TDC Divine Bergamote

    KM Patchoulissime

    OJ Champaca

    AP Préparation Parfumée

    Etro Anice

    AG Les Nuits d'Hadriens

    Frank Los Angeles

    Calypso Marine

    Frapin Attic

    Philosykos

Great list K! I can tell you are not on the East Coast though, as you have things I could not possibly have worn here in the last month — it was too hot & humid for even Seve Exquise. Thanks for bringing up CU Element of Surprise, that is a great scent and I keep meaning to review it.

Another great list! But what is Frapin Attic? Just peeked on Aedes, is that the room spray?

I do think TDC Divine Bergamote must be the most popular niche summer scent, it has made so many lists.

Drat, Attic is gone before I found out what it is, LOL!
