New fragrances: David Beckham Instinct, Fresh Memoirs of a Geisha & more

Posted by Robin on 1 July 2005 9 Comments

David Beckham Instinct cologneDavid Beckham's new fragrance, Instinct, will debut in Europe in September, in the US in 2006:

Instinct's feugere [sic] juice was concocted by International Flavors and Fragrances' Alain Astori and Beatrice Piquet. Its top notes include Italian bergamot, orange and mandarin. At its heart are star anise, cardamom and red pimento notes. And the scent's drydown features Haitian vetiver, patchouli and white amber notes.

This September, Fresh will debut a new range to tie in with the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. The line will include an "Eau de Parfum, a blend of jasmine flower, pure rose absolute, sparkling langsat fruit and white peach." Fresh Memoirs of A Geisha is available in 75 ml; additional notes include bergamot, mandarin, iris, musk and sandalwood. Men's grooming line Jack Black will introduce a trio of fragrances this fall called "Liquid Magnetism". The first fragrance, Signature Silver Mark, will be a repackaged version of their original fragrance, Signature. The other two scents will be new:

Perfumer Yann Vasnier blended Signature Black Mark, which features olfactory accords of saffron and red cedar. Perfumer Claude Dir mixed Signature Silver Mark, which has notes of juniper and ginger, and Signature Blue Mark, which includes aromas of cardamom and cypress.

The soap opera All My Children is launching its second fragrance, Fusion. (both above via Women's Wear Daily)

Not so keen on the potato atomizer.

LOL — I assumed it was wood, and it looked like a cool touchstone kind of thing, but I see the potato now. Just as well as I'm not going to be dropping by the Kenzo spa in Paris any time soon.

And I want to try the new Jack Black with saffron & cedar.

LOL at Dick Cheney — but never say never!

Thanks for all the info, R! I tried the BabyDoll Candy Pink scent at Sephora, at the time I did not know the notes. I was hoping for the original BabyDoll with candy notes, but there are none. It's just BabyDoll with more fruits! I was disappointed that the juice did not match the name.

Drat, P, I looked for it yesterday at YSL counters but not in Sephora. Didn't find it.

Memoirs of a Geisha was a fabulous book. I hope the fragrance can live up to the potential. I wonder if the fragrance will smell like the Aroma M line Geisha 'Cha' line. Personally — I am drawn to anything with the Geisha name — probably a past life thing. I do love Jasmine and Rose scents. Finding the ones that work for me is always an adventure. For instance, SL A la Nuit is beautiful but TDC Jasmine de Nuit works nicer. Floral/lOrientals lovely on me. I am looking forward to this one. Fingers crossed; it might be a signature scent.

Loved Memoirs of a Geisha too. Keep meaning to read the Mineko Iwasaki book.

The Aroma M line didn't attract me though. O-Cha was my favorite but even that was not a purchase.

Fresh scents tend to be sweeter & fruitier than I like, so we shall see!
