New perfumes: Jennifer Lopez Live, Laura Mercier Ambre Passion & more

Posted by Robin on 24 June 2005 38 Comments

J Lo Live perfumeJennifer Lopez will launch her new fragrance, Live, this October:

Live Jennifer Lopez, concocted by Lopez in cooperation with Dominique Ropion of International Flavors and Fragrances, is an upbeat fruity floral. Top notes are of sparkling Sicilian lemon, vivacious Italian orange and juicy pineapple; a heart of fruity redcurrant, heady peony and piquant violet, and a drydown of caramel, tonka beans, vanilla and sandalwood.

Update: see a review of J Lo Live.

Laura Mercier will launch Ambre Passion this September:

The fragrance itself is almost purely amber, from top to bottom note. A bit of geranium was added to give it an unexpected, unique twist, said Mercier. "It's a real, basic amber," she said. "A lot of perfumes have a base of amber but it's mixed up and surrounded by other things. This is a pure amber with just a little sparkle of geranium."

Britney Spears will launch her second perfume, Fantasy, in September. Fantasy features red lychee, golden quince, kiwi, cupcake accord, jasmine, white chocolate orchid, musk, orris root and woods. Update: see a review of Britney Spears Fantasy.

Narciso Rodriguez will have a new Eau de Parfum version of his "Narciso Rodriguez for her" fragrance in July. The EdP will feature a "pink floral top note containing rose and peach pulp". (all above via Women's Wear Daily)

Lacoste will launch a new men's fragrance, Essential, this fall. It is described as "fresh spicy". (via cosmeticnews) Update: see a review of Lacoste Essential.

    'Cupcake accord'????? Good grief.

I wish Narciso R would make his line less confusing. Everything seems to be called the same thing, with subtle differences in bottle presentation.

I'm intrigued by the Laura Mercier…I'm an amber-lover, unlike you, R! I wonder where they'll sell it here…possibly SpaceNK, which stocks her cosmetics?

I liked Lacoste for Women – came close to an actual purchase! I wonder what Esential will be like – sounds nice!

Live sounds utterly hideous. I expect it will shift by the truck-load.

Out of these Lopez's fragrance sounds most interesting, although I expect that it might be too sweet. I usually like Dominique Ropion's work though.

Let me just take a moment and say that all of these have boring names! What is going on in the industry that they cannot think of something other than Lovely, Curious, Attraction (not the same thing as Allure, in more ways than one), etc. My favourite names: Méchant Loup (mean wolf), coup de fouet (crack of the whip), Soie Rouge (red silk). What is your favourite perfume name?

Dominique Ropion! Which Frederic Malle one did he do? Can't remember, too lazy to Google.

LOL — cupcake accord is a crack up; combined with lychee, kiwi and quince is less funny. This could be really, really bad.

NR is one of the few fragrances that provokes an instant allergic reaction — my throat seizes up in a very uncomfortable way — so I won't be trying the new EdP!

The LM bottle is nice too, sorry I didn't print a picture. Very classic looking.

And I like Lacoste for women too. I may buy a bottle next time it shows up at TJ Maxx.

No need to google, just click on the “noses” link on the nav bar at the top of the page.

Yes, they all seem to have very “safe” names, as though they've spent too much time test-marketing. It is too bad.

I like: Tiempe Passat, L'Ombre dans L'Eau, Apres L'Ondee, Luctor et Emergo.

You can do well with a one-word name too: Snob, Ode, Chamade, Duel.

Also many things that would sound boring in English sound lovely in French: Vent Vert, Ma Griffe. Or do they sound boring if you actually speak French?

    Good point about safety.

Opium is another one (did not like Addict as much) that has impact.

Vent Vert has a nice sound as it is pronounced, capturing the effervescence of the fragrance. And I do like Ma Griffe too.

Poupee, on the other hand, is a case of poor marketing in English speaking world.

Here are some of my favorite names:

Teint de Neige (“color of snow”)

    En Passant (“in passing”)

    Yosh U4EAH (“Euphoria”)

Lucy & Pilar, Tiptoeing Through Chambers of the Moon

Only five years too late. LOL!

Teint de Neige does not mean Colour of Snow. It means Snow-white Complexion.

Teinte = Colour or rather Shade.

Great choices. I like all the Pilar & Lucy names, actually, and En Passant is lovely.

My favorite single word name for a fragrance is Sublime.

My overall favorite may be Evening in Paris! LOL, just kidding. My overall favorite is Passage d'Enfer.

Gosh, I feel like I am on a sensory overload! There are just too many launches, with all of these crazy names and notes. Please tell me what a “cupcake accord” is supposed to smell like?? Although, I must admit I am “Curious”!! Ha, ha–I couldn't resist! :):)

I completely agree with VanillaGirl: Narciso makes me crazy confused with his fragrances. (And, it apparently makes you sick, R!) Note to NR: Get some new bottles and names, buddy!!

    Good one R!

Actually, I think in general L'Artisan has some very interesting names. La Chasse aux Papillons, Safran Troublant, Extrait de Songe, Ananas Fizz, Navegar, etc. And of course Mechant Loup as V mentioned.

    Another good pun :-)

I think Narciso just has the one fragrance, right, that now has 3 forms? The Eau de Toilette, the oil, and now the EdP.

Oh, mine too! Sublime, as in an aesthetic principle of 18th century philosophers. Need to try the fragrance soon.

R, I love all of those L'Artisan names.

V, once again you are way past me intellectually on the sublime concept. :):) I just love the way it sounds and feels when I say it.

I still think Evening in Paris is a ground-breaking name! :):)

LOL! Cannot agree more on Evening in Paris! :)

Here is another name I like: L'Air du Temps (makes me think of overgrown gardens filled with white Greek statues, for some reason).

I also like Tubereuse Criminelle and Fracas, both of which are suited for these fragrances. I love saying that I am wearing Bandit! Now, that makes some people do a double take.

L'Air du Temps, Fracas, Tubereuse Criminelle, Bandit–all great names, V, especially Fracas! Whenever I wear it, I say that I am wearing “The Fracas”! Gosh, I'm silly! LOL!

I, also, love the DelRae names…how could I forget them! Amoureuse and Bois de Paradis are two more favorites, especially Amoureuse. :):)

    Hugs!

I believe there's another oil – not perfume, but a bath oil, just to confuse the whole thing. And the oil is not the 'main' scent – it's Egyptian musc? Or am I even more confused than I thought I was?

I'm so glad that JLo changed the name of Fluide to Live. I don't remember live being one of the suggestions that they gave – they were at the time I took the survey looking more toward dance inspired names.

Is it “Live” the verb or “Live” the noun? With a long or short 'i'?

These things are important to those of us who do not watch television!

    Hi everyone!

I am new to this. I was just wondering what everyone thinks of Stella McCartney Rose Absolut.

It is amazing. I can't get enough of it. It is similiar to the original Stella but there is something unique about it. I am hooked!!!!

I would call it a floral musk — but I can't smell it very well, some chemical in it makes my throat & sinuses close, so I keep away, sorry! I do know it is very popular.
