David Apel started out in 1980 as a compounder at Givaudan, where he fell in love with the raw materials of perfumery. He eventually left Givaudan for Fragrance Resources, then later returned to Givaudan. He has been a Senior Perfumer with Symrise since 2007.
David Apel was the recipient of the American Society of Perfumers Young Perfumer Award in 1991. He is married to perfumer Caroline Sabas.
