Frederic Malle Northern Love ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 5 August 2026 15 Comments

French niche line Frédéric Malle will introduce Northern Love, a new fragrance developed by perfumer Bruno Jovanovic, in September.

NORTHERN LOVE is a warm and intimate fragrance. Signed by Bruno Jovanovic, this amber-woody composition elevates a creamy sandalwood, layered with cinnamon as a nod to spicy biscuit accord.

Inspired by a yearning for emotional truth, Northern Love writes a love letter to modern romanticism. A warm, comforting embrace contrasted by a cold and nostalgic feeling — like a bittersweet hug. The courage to feel.

Master perfumer Bruno Jovanovic signs an amber-woody composition oscillating between opulence and refinement, classicism and modernity. Northern Love elevates an exceptional sandalwood essence by amplifying the naturally creamy facets of this precious wood. Lifted by warm spices, the sandalwood gently gives way to the enveloping roundness of vanilla, leaving behind an intimate and deeply comforting trail.

Additional notes include saffron, jasmine and sacrasol*.

Frédéric Malle Northern Love will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (A 10 ml size is probably also coming.)

(via cydutyfree, additional information via clementiprofumi.it)

*If the notes above are correct, this is probably a re-do of Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle.

I was allergic to something in Dries Van Noten and I never figured out which one (or several). Unless someone provides a compelling reason, I will be A-OK missing this one.

If a 10ml ever becomes available, I’d give it a whirl.

I still have some DVN left…but it makes me happy if that’s what this one is.

The copy for this sounds really depressing to me. At the same time, it made me laugh.

As usual I have paid it little mind! “Inspired by a yearning for emotional truth” is definitely funny given that it probably translates to “looking for a way to re-release a fragrance under a different name”….

Yes to amber! No to amber-woody! Nevertheless, she persisted. 😁

Counting on you to sample it and let the “woody-amber” adverse among us know if it’s safe to come out and sniff.

The name also loses something in translation.

I honestly think it’s just the re-release for copyright reasons of the olf Dries Van Notes by Frédéric Malle

I am tentatively excited at it being a re-release of the DvN. Will seek out a sample or pop down to Nordstrom to sniff it once it’s out.

Not a fan of the name, but the OG Dries van Noten was Good Stuff.
