Frederic Malle Contre-Jour ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2026 10 Comments

French niche line Frédéric Malle has launched Contre-Jour, a new fragrance developed by perfumer Annick Menardo.

An alluring scent that defies the traditions of olfactory.

Created by master perfumer Annick Ménardo, Frederic Malle’s Contre Jour eau de parfum encapsulates those with fiercely free souls. Punctuated by the Mediterranean Everlasting flower, renowned for its longevity, yellow hue and untameable depth, it captures the very spirit of a wildflower. Unfolding alongside notes of spicy rose absolute and rhythmic sandalwood oil, it’s a fragrance that captivates through contradiction – a signature for those with an innate sense of mystery.

Frédéric Malle Contre-Jour is available now at Harrods in the UK, in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (A 10 ml size is also in the works.)

I’m always interested in this house, and this perfumer. Thanks for the information.

Is it an immortelle? L’Occitane uses that a lot

IIRC it smells like curry to some people?

Oh, and I love contre jour light, very dramatic, but am not sure how it manifest as a scent.

I like Annick Ménardo’s creations (Am I the only one who thinks Goutal, when I hear/read the name Annick? I know it’s a common French name, but still). Might get out to try this one.

Really glad to hear that they’re releasing something new. I was afraid they wouldn’t, now that Malle is gone and they’ve discontinued some of the old ones.
