Thursday scent of the day 4/23

Posted by Robin on 23 April 2026 18 Comments

Happy Almost Friday, and happy World Book Day / UN English Language Day / Shakespeare Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

Today I'm saluting Jean Paul Gaultier's first fragrance, Classique, but only as an idea in my mind...what I'm wearing is the easier Hermès Eau Claire des Merveilles, released in 2010 very near the end of Gaultier's tenure at the brand.

Reminder: on 4/24, celebrate Jean Paul Gaultier's birthday by wearing one of his fragrances. If you don't have one, wear anything that you think works with the JPG aesthetic, or maybe a fragrance that you'd put in a torso-shaped bottle? Or, as usual, be as creative and/or farfetched as you like with the theme. [More reading: The Utopian Vision of Jean Paul Gaultier at HyperAllergic, What Jean-Paul Gaultier Will Be Remembered For in Fashion at Frenchly, Jean Paul Gaultier, Master of Spectacle at Interview, Jean Paul Gaultier: Get to Know the History Behind The Designer at L'Officiel, When Jean-Paul Gaultier was creative director of Hermès at NSS.]

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows a Jean Paul Gaultier Le Classique printed mesh top (this one is a recent design but appears to be sold out).

    So long lives this…”

ok you smell awesome, and I hope your beautiful makeup makes you feel good about yourself. I bought the Hermes bronzing powder for summer. Can’t wait till it gets here.

I get terrible jet lag when I travel so I start preparing by going to bed an hour early and getting up an hour early a few days before my flight. I’m on day 3 and have that disoriented feeling today. It should get better after I go to the gym. I’m wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges because it’s a beautiful carnation. I need to get some more, mine is evaporating rapidly.

      Nothing like a nice carnation

It’s a sunny day here, and we did have some flurries-yuck. I’m wearing Songes-shower gel and body cream. We’re cleaning at work today so I’m in old clothes and getting dirty. I like these sorts of jobs because there is a beginning, a middle, and an end, and things look nicer.
    Have a good day!

I’m gonna say it so get ready…I’m wishing for warmer weather! ☀️
The wind has been like a savage beast for the past 48 hours. It’s so bad, with so much stinging dirt and particulate matter swirling in the air even the dog doesn’t want to go out. And COLD! 25F last night…🥶

Rant over, I’m ushering in warmer weather and ZERO wind with CSP Coco Figue, a light hearted, summery scent guaranteed to transport you to a tropical beach, lounging under an umbrella, with an adult beverage in hand. Not some place I ever imagined myself longing to be but there you have it. 🏖️

Wishing everyone the weather of their choice today. 🙂

Today I picked another JPG corset – or should I say a 2-in-1 corset?

    https://media.vogue.fr/photos/5e2870b2eba60700084eac95/master/w_1600,c_limit/011-JeanPaulGaultier-SS10-VogueGlobal-21Jan20-GettyImages.jpg

The model, Jourdan Dunn, is seven months pregnant, and her baby seems to have a corset of her own within the corset. I love everything about this image, but especially how beautifully the color of the outfit complements Dunn’s skin tone. She looks both maternal and Amazonian.

My scent match is Black Phantom by Kilian (coffee and chocolate for the dominant color), layered with Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (for the leather bracelets/arm pieces she is wearing). Besides, Black Phantom’s tagline is “Memento Mori,” which makes me think of the unending cycle of life and death – we move closer to death every day, yet new life is always arriving.

Additional details: the outfit is also a tribute to JPG’s conical bra, and Black Phantom has a skull-shaped coffret, which creates an additional link with JPG’s body-shaped bottles.

I am all over the place perfume-wise this week and not a JPG fragrance in sight.

I keep reaching for FM Musc Ravageur (seems like a name JPG would like), I wore SL Participe Passé (or it wore me!), Iris Torréfié, 24 Rue Faubourg, and L’Air Des Alpes Suisses (possibly due to a certain Patch Absolue purchase) and many more.

I do have a fragrance picked out for tomorrow, from a bottle that I think would make JPG smile😊

I’m heading to the recording studio this morning, so I’m being someone discreet with a single spritz of Malle’s French Lover.
