Friday scent of the day 10/10

Posted by Robin on 10 October 2025 149 Comments

It's Friday and World Mental Health Day. Birthdays: Lilly Daché, R. K. Narayan, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Thelonious Monk, Harold Pinter, John Prine. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with nutmeg, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Double points for me: Fendi Theorema on one arm, Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur on the other (plus, a sprinkle of nutmeg on my tea and John Prine singing Lake Marie in the background).

Reminder: on 10/17, wear the perfume you would like to be buried or cremated in. (This was a suggestion from Deva, who did note that it is a bit macabre, but also that many cultures include fragrance materials of various sorts in their funerary rites. I was saving this project until Deva rejoined us, but since it looks like she has moved on to other interests, I'd like to take this opportunity to honor her since her presence here brightened everybody's day for so long. If it's too macabre for you, don't join in, obviously!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Great job, Robin! You make me miss L’Eau du Gouverneur.

I’m wearing Givenchy Organza – it reportedly has a strong nutmeg note, which is why I saved it for Friday. Any twins?

As I mentioned before, I’m bad at detecting nutmeg, so my association with it isn’t culinary but literary. Years ago, I read a short story called “The Touch of Nutmeg Makes It” by John Collier. I remembered it today and reread it – still good. Mystery. Murder. Nutmeg.

    Happy Friday!

I really like the CSP a lot, hope my bottle does not run out.

And wish I still had some Organza Indecence!

OI is in my top 5; I would’ve thought the cinnamony OI had a dash of nutmeg rather than the original Organza.

It’s not your nose; I have a small bottle and rarely wear it because to me it’s all white floral and an overload of tuberose. I don’t smell any nutmeg at all, much less a strong one, even though fragrantica lists it as a note.

No, it’s my nose – I just can’t detect nutmeg in anything. I don’t even find the spice itself particularly strong or memorable.

I love Organza, and I do get a pronounced spicy accord from it (though I agree that the white florals are the most prominent). It’s just that I can’t specifically say I smell nutmeg in it.

    Hello and tgif!
My turn today to wear Maison Louis Marie’s Bois de Balincourt. I don’t smell the nutmeg in this tbh, I think it mainly warmed up the milky sandalwood. Because BdB is on the lighter side, once it wears off, I’ll put on my other nutmeg, JM Ginger Biscuit.
My living room smells like a candy shop from my BBW I Scream Float wallflower. It’s a fun one for sure.

I wore Theorema on Wednesday. Theorema is too beautiful to be ruined by my retail job so I am not wearing it today. Since someone mentioned that no 22 strangely has nutmeg in it, I am wearing a dab of the extrait today. Nutmeg isn’t something I would think that Chanel would use in perfume.

I couldn’t think of anything I have that has a nutmeg note specifically (I didn’t know Theorema has it), and I’m not absolutely sure I could identify it anyway, so I’m wearing YR Homme Nature Millénaire, which is so spicy that it might as well have a little of everything in a spice rack. It’s my autumn go-to — it really smells like fall, like crunchy leaves and damp earth.

    Journey Woman
According to this article on NST it has nutmeg https://nstperfume.com/2016/01/18/amouage-journey-woman-fragrance-review/
Every time I wear this one I get lots of compliments.

I am saving my pennies for that horse inspired blush compact by Hermes, when I do, someone on NST gets a huge enabler pin lol!!

I am reading Mate by Ali Hazelwood-and so far I don’t like it. I don’t mind these paranormal romantasys -but it’s starting off very predictable. We shall see….

I am wearing Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger for the community project.
A slice of pumpkin bread and a cup of coffee with a dash of nutmeg for breakfast.

I am glad is finally Friday. I am off today and back to work on Wednesday. A mini vacation to rest and regain some energy. Plans for the weekend with my sisters to go apple picking have been canceled because we are expecting a nor’easter that will stay until Tuesday bringing tons of rain and wind. Temperatures have also dropped to the low 60s, a big change from the 80s we had last week. I will stay home, watch Halloween movies and do a couple of things that I have been postponing for a while.

    Happy Friday, everyone! 🌻

Perfect choice for the cp. I enjoyed that one when I had it. I swapped for a low fill bottle on MUA back in the day, and it was so low that it’s one of the few bottles I’ve finished in the last 8 years or so.

I’m in Tam Dao. It doesn’t list nutmeg specifically, just spices, so maybe it’s in there somewhere. It’s perfect for world mental health day imo, so there’s that.
In the span of a week we have gone from needing the ac to needing the furnace. It’s currently overcast so I’m just hoping for sun at some point today.🤞🌞 I can take the cooler temps, but I am not ready for days on end of gray skies.

Yep, my heat came on this morning! And I have to keep running the a/c fan for another few days (the compressor is not turning on, but I have a weird system and you’re supposed to run the fan for a week after the last time the a/c is on, to dry out the tubes) so I’m sitting right now with cold-ish air blowing overhead and the radiator on to my side. Ugh.

Turning to vintage for the cp from my ebay-acquired houndstooth
Diorama splash edt. When I was a young teen, a friend of my mother’s from France came to visit and gifted me a bottle, which I liked but foolishly decluttered a few years later.
Topnotes are plum, peach, melon, bergamot; middle: gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, rose, cinnamon, violet, carraway, pepper, nutmeg, clove and lotv; base notes are oak moss, civet, castoreum, leather, vetiver, sandalwood, musk & cedar.
Smelling fantastic and autumnal, if I do say so myself!

I did a Notes search on Fragrantica and didn’t find many nutmeg options in my collection. (I do own Jil Sander No. 4, but it didn’t come up in that search.) My SOTD is Bois 1920 Sushi Imperiale, which I feel sure I bought around the time it came out, which was 2005. I’m glad the CP gave me a reason to get it out because it’s really quite nice! It seems to have kept well, but I’m finding the opening quite tangy. That must be a combination of the citruses but that much-dreaded (by some) “dill pickle” note of the sandalwood is very evident to me here, though usually I don’t notice it at all. Since I just sprayed it on (I’m running late today), I’ll give it time to develop the rose and spices (nutmeg and cinnamon)–they aren’t very evident at the moment. I am also getting a somewhat leather-smokey note which must be the tonic (I think?).

    Happy Friday!

SOTD & yesterday as well: By Kilian Straight to Heaven, which I almost took literally. Cleaning people were polishing the marble in the foyer and wow did I go flying yesterday – hit my head, then down the right side of my body. First 9-1-1 call ever. Which ironically means that I not only took the CP a wee it too seriously, but I also “celebrated” the season return of the fabulous Angela Bassettl’s show 9-1-1 a bit too seriously as well.

Today: i feel a combination of hangover (head hurts) and bad ski slope wipeout. Very relieved I didn’t break anything – paramedics were amazed.

Funny story: when they determined I was out of the woods, the paramedic that had spent the most time around my head, neck, bp, checking eyes, whispered that if I didn’t mind he wanted to get my fragrance for his wife and did I remember what I had on. I asked if this was another memory test, like what’s my address. He didn’t like the name interestingly. Too close to home I guess. I told him look for a rum/ nutmeg scent online.

Laila, the irony of the whole escapade really hit me after they left, I had a good cry, and took 1000 mg Tylenol. Which I’ve been repeating every 6-8 hrs.

Hi all, been a bit MIA when it comes to commenting, but I’ve still been reading a day or two behind. My stressful work event is this Monday, so I’m looking forward to feeling a little less stressed next week. I also had two nights in a row of bad sleep, argh. Hopefully tonight is better.

But, I have been wearing perfumes with a nutmeg note! Today I’m in a sample of a new perfume I’m very taken with, Blood Spider Orchids by Regime des Fleurs. This one is spicy and cozy and very warming on these early fall days. I just wish the brand offered travel sprays.

    Others I wore this week:
Monday – 4711 Acqua Colonia Lime & Nutmeg
Tuesday – Vero Profumo Rozy Voile D’Extrait
    Wednesday – Frassai Teisenddu
Thursday – Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit

My SOTD for today’s cp is the classic Coty L’Origan, warm, woody, spicy, and a bit powdery, one of my favorite fall fragrances since high school. Created in 1905 – 120 years ago! – by Francois Coty, fragrantica lists 20 notes that comprise this scent, one of which is nutmeg.

When I started high school, I made a new friend in M, who’d gone to a different grade school than me. She introduced me to her best friend, and the 3 of us became ‘besties.’ When the weather was nice, we loved to take long walks in the neighborhood, talking about boys and music and movies and going to The Shack for burgers and fries. L’Origan is the scent M’s friend always wore (I asked her because I fell in love with it) and, although I don’t even remember her name, I think of her each time I wear it and those halcyon days!

After 3 evenings of programs in a row and being out most of today – a yoga class at a nearby library, then a trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden for the fall bulb sale, a stop at Wild Birds for birdseed, a quick lunch at McD’s, and finally, grocery shopping – I’m exhausted and happy to be home, ain’t going anywhere til Sunday afternoon.🥱

    Happy weekend to all!🍂🤗🎃

I started the day in AdV Oeillet Bengale but turns out to be one of those spicy fragrances without nutmeg.

So now I’m in Miller et Bertaux aymara, a cardamom forward fragrance by Bertrand Duchaufour. It’s another fragrance that lists many nutmeg adjacent notes so I’m going to take .5 CP points.

Wearing Le Couvent Maison de Parfum Cologne of the Missions today received in a swap from a kind NSTer a few years back. ❤️

Very similar to SDV less some of the sourness I find in recent formulations of SDV which is a good thing. It’s also a bit less boozy than SDV imho. It’s very well done and long discontinued now to the best of my knowledge.

SOTD = Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit

I’m with the CP as I believe this contains nutmeg!

I did my walk again today (1 mile) and yes, I saw Halloween decors both yesterday and today. I took pictures! I may feature some of them on IG whenever I get around to doing it. I know it sounds terrible but I am less enamored with IG for the past few months. I will get back to it though.

I went to Friendly’s today with my sister, BIL and nephew. We were the only ones there at least for the first 10 minutes, then a steady stream came by. In any case, ambience was the same as The Original Pancake House, the food was just as good (maybe slightly better) and my BIL and I had a hard time convincing my sister that the “free” sundae we got was NOT included in the calculation for the tip. Anyway, it is good enough so we now have 2 places for the December event(s). We will likely do the Chinese / Japanese buffet on Sunday 28 December.

Now to go back and read from bottom up!

I am at least imagining that I smell the nutmeg in the richly blended notes of my SotD, Fendi’s Asja edp. I smell nutmeg peeking out from the midst of the benzoin, sandalwood and cinnamon. I learned today that the perfumer is Jean Guichard, and that he also created LouLou. As soon as I read that I could smell the connection between the two. As a LouLou fan, I gained a new appreciation for Asja. My mini had a little bit of a dusty top from the aged lemon note, but soon revealed its quality.

Wearing MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver for the nutmeg note. This perfume changes so much with wearing, starts out with a blast of juniper, like a gin and tonic, dries down to something more woody and powdery. I like both parts of it.

Sitting here with glass of wine, after a week that was not as bad as expected, covering for a colleague out on vacation. But the Murphy’s Law of workload will dictate that some week in the future, that should NOT be bad, will end up much worse than expected. I have to lead a discussion next week at a public event and am a bit stressed about that, since I don’t do a lot of public speaking. So I am looking forward to next weekend, when all of that is behind me.

Thanks to Glannys’ research the other day, I am wearing a scent that fits the CP and is one of my favorites. Can’t say that I notice any nutmeg in it, though.

My best friend from junior high/high school is allergic to nutmeg. Bad things happen if she eats anything containing it.

SOTD = AG Encens Flamboyant. I was a little heavy handed with it today; 4 sprays in total. That’s a lot for me!

Greetings from Sneezytown! My allergies were so bad today I left work early, took two Benadryls, and slept for three hours. My nose is still runny and itchy, but it’s better. Apparently the mold index is high today (mold on the fallen leaves outside?), which explains it. So unfortunately I can’t really smell anymore the perfume I put on this morning, Voyage d’Hermès. It has a lot of cardamom and unspecified “spices,” which might include nutmeg. So I’ll spritz on some more before I go to bed, because it really is delightful. And not the cause of my allergies!!

Hope you all have a good weekend! I’ll be working but looking forward to my next day off.
