Friday scent of the day 10/18

Posted by Robin on 18 October 2024 138 Comments

Happy Friday and happy National Chocolate Cupcake Day! Birthdays: A. J. Liebling, Anita O’Day, Chuck Berry, Martina Navratilova, Wynton Marsalis. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Tomato Cream, a nourishing toasty hue that warms the soul." or "Italian Plum, a deep dark purple full of magical energies.")

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Le Labo Bergamote 22 for Golden Palm, although now that I'm wearing it I'd say the color match isn't perfect. Oh well, I smell great!

Reminder: on 10/25, we're off to Turkey! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Turkey, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Turkey, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

A very straightforward pairing: Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu and Winter Sky. Anyone else had the same idea?

I received another credit for a game localization. Hopefully it will look good in my CV.

Congratulations! I’m afraid I don’t know what that is–game localization?

Thank you. Explanation: I proofread the translation of another game. The game developers will add my name to the game credits – you know, like in movie credits, in the part nobody reads, because people only care about the actors and the director. 😁

Happy Friday! I have a bunch of errands today including coffee with friends, so I’m wearing L’Eau for me to enjoy while not overpowering others. Lucent White is the best match, in my mind.

Perfect match. All scents from SL Eau series are good for Lucent White. I considered Water Calligraphy by Kilian for this color – a similar idea.

Oh, I did not think of it! I’d probably pair No 5 L’Eau with Golden Palm, but it is bright, light and aldehydic, so I understand pairing with Lucent White as well. Maybe Golden Palm is more like No 5 EDT…

I wasn’t thinking about the cp when putting on Molecule 01 + Ginger from a new decant, but the closest I could come is Red Orange. There is a brightness to this scent which is more a citrus vibe than ginger, although the ginger is definitely there.

I chose Bel Respiro for the CP, and am pairing it with Fern. The Bel Respiro is from a dwindling decant of the edt formulation and I really, really wish I’d sprung for a FB when it was obtainable for less than a mortgage payment. So beautiful!

In other news, I discovered yesterday that my front room windows don’t really seal out bugs very well. Thankfully they at least keep water out. I think replacing them is going to have to be my next big house expense. 🙄

Mandragore with its plummy bottle and juice along with the magical properties of the mandragore or mandrake plant (not the same plant as the one we call mandrake or May apple in the states) seems like a perfect fit for Italian Plum. Plus I love it!

Spent Wednesday evening in the ER with tons of pain. It looks like I am going to have to have my gallbladder removed. I meet with a surgeon on Monday afternoon. I didn’t have to wait around for anything on Wednesday night. I think it will be a Chanel no 5 or 22 today.

I’m in Nuit de Bakélite from Naomi Goodsir. I suppose Lucent White is the closest color to it from the palette, though it’s far from a simple fragrance. Maybe Winter Sky would be more apt?

I’m in Narciso White Cube, for White Swan, a soft and downy white full of grace. A good description of this perfume I think.
It’s gorgeous out today with blue skies and sun. I just did my Whole Foods run, earlier than usual. Note to self: always go in the morning, it is so much less busy! It was almost enjoyable lol.

We are headed over to see madtownteen for a quick overnight tomorrow. The outdoor recreation alliance in the city she attends college is kicking off the opening of their 300 acre trail farm this weekend with music, food and tours. 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, and it’s supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow😎 should be fun.

I felt ill for two days after my first shingles shot a few months ago. Also felt tired for about a week. Not looking forward to the second dose next month. But it’s better than a case of shingles. I had chicken pox in my thirties and that was bad enough. 😆

I considered Fern, for the concept, but I don’t like the color itself. Aventurine, a beautiful teal, one of my favourite colors, really speaks to me. Either way I get to pick something from my huge collection of all natural perfumes: DSH Rose Vert, in both EdP and Parfum. This is a thorny rose with glossy leaves in that particular mossy shade of teal. I finally got the Parfum bottle from DSH and it is a true little gem. Sparkling citrus top, rose and oak moss, with a touch of sandalwood. One of my perennial DSH favorites. Photo of my Rose Vert duo: https://www.instagram.com/p/DBRakT-RMZB/?igsh=MW1wMDB1ODJzOHFiOA==

It is a very pretty bottle, beautiful colour! I got so lucky with both my bottles of MPCPC (I’ve got a large bottle of EDP and a small of EDT). When this first came out a lot of people must have bought it unsniffed and not liked it very much.
I got a sample and after a couple of months decided that I wanted a bottle. Fortunately there was a great choice on eBay and I bought both bottles there, for I think a third of the original price.

I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Niral, thanks to a very generous NSTer.
I would probably pair it with Italian Plum based on its violet/Iris notes, the color of the packaging and the imagined color of a tussar silk sari (this particular silk being the inspiration for the perfume).
    What a beauty this is!

Good morning! We’ve woken up to another sunny Saturday morning and we’re hoping today stays sunny. We’ve had a string of weekends where the day starts well, but gets dull and cloudy by midday.
I’m wearing Rouge Sarây from Atelier des Ors. It’s all soft warm notes, so it would go well with Tomato Cream or Golden Palm.

    Hello and tgif!
Pairing Lucent White with Dusita Mélodie de l’Amour, a gorgeous bouquet of wedding white florals.
Only second day in my trip and I already did some damage! Noteworthy purchase is my first Dusita (the one above) and I LOVE it! I have wanted to try Dusita ever since her first creation but her fragrances are never available where I am so I am so so happy to finally smell them all. I also wanted Pavilion d’Or but I limited myself to just 1 (for now…).

What a fun cp for today! Since red is my favorite color, I immediately zoned in on Scarlet Smile, ‘ a glamourous and decadent red that captures our desire.’ And I shall wear that Scarlet (and secret) Smile all day in Chopard Madness, as I inhale its rose/spice/rosewood somewhat naughty scent from its deep red bottle.❤️

Wow, it’s been quite a week full of wonderful events every night! A great presentation on fall migration by our favorite birdscaper, this month’s classic cinema showing of the original 1941 The Wolfman, our local historical society’s presentation on strange, spooky happenings in our town, + helping set up for our library’s book sale that I’ll be working at tomorrow. Whew 😅. But the highlight of the week was definitely seeing Paul Anka – those of you of a certain age may remember him! I fell in love with him when I was 12 but have never seen him live til now. Fantastic show! Frank Sinatra, whom he wrote several songs for, including the famous ‘My Way,’ used to call him ‘Kid’ because he was at that time, but you would not believe to look at him – or hear him – that he is now 83! His voice is in fine form and I never knew he wrote so many songs for other famous performers.

Weather here is absolutely gorgeous and if it continues, we’ll try and sneak away for a couple of days next week and check out the fall colors.🤞. In the meantime, wishing everyone a beautiful weekend ahead.🍂🍁

Our classic film series often shows films appropriate to the season. I look forward to it each month and the movie theater is only two blocks away, so EZPZ to get to. The young man who hosts these, one of our former librarians, also has a blog and newsletter detailing what the film is about and other background info, which makes it even more enjoyable.

Apparently, he wrote this and several other songs for Frank, also for Sammy Davis, Jr. and others, as well as movie themes, The Longest Day being one of them. This I never knew either. And he was quite a storyteller as well as quite funny at times and very personable, mingling with the audience at times. A real class act!

sotd = Vol de Nuit vintage edt

It’s an iris-y, powdery explosion before the green and woody notes show.

So I went with “Moonstruck, a shadowy gray hue that lives behind the clouds.”

I often think of scents as having a color. It’s fun to think that way. 🌈

And sometimes a scent has a musical value for me, not really a specific pitch or note, more like a range of a few notes on the keyboard. 🎶

My computer ate my first response, so I am going to recreate it.

Hoo boy, it’s chilly today! Currently it’s 49 degrees here and quite cloudy. I am waiting for the (predicted) rain to fall, since it’s not cold enough to snow. But the mountains should be getting some, especially in the southwest corner of Colorado! 🤞🌨️❄️

SOTD = TF Black Orchid, and I am pairing it with Italian Plum. My little 1oz bottle still smells like it did the day I purchased it. Black Orchid is one of the most temperamental perfumes I have tried along with Mitsouko. But it is cooperating with my chemistry very well today. w00t w00t!

I went literal with Blanc by Paul & Joe, a gorgeous musky heliotrope hawthorne angelica blend that’s been discontinued for a while. It was to pair literally with Lucent White, but I think it actually fits Moonstruck better in description and color.

I’m holding up very well after my covid and flu shots yesterday evening. I am so glad I went with the non-mRNA Novavax since I have no redness or swelling at the injection site this time. All I had for side effects was some fatigue, mild headache, and upper body aches. A big upgrade from my usual reaction!

That was such a good scent!

Novavax was kinder to you than me…I was tired for 7 or 8 days, much longer than with the mRNA. BUT, never deathly sick as I was with Moderna, so I guess it’s hard to pick which was better.

Glad you’re doing ok after your shots. I just got caught up with the last 3 days of posts after a very busy week and I chuckled at your post yesterday saying that this time you were going to get one shot in each arm. I did the opposite! Last year I thought that was a good idea and got a shot in each arm but then I had 2 very sore arms and couldn’t do much of anything for several days. So this year I got both shots in one arm and it worked out better for me – only one very sore arm and one usable arm.😊

I think this was my first time getting them in different arms, but I also threw in the factor of the non-mRNA covid vaccine. My arm felt better than it ever has from covid shots. I’m sorry last time you tried one in each arm, it didn’t treat you well. 💕

I love seeing the Pantone Colors of the Year. Alas, I am not one that can experience a connection between colors and scents. So, I saw my bottle of Clinique Aromatics Black Cherry and enjoyed a lightly smokey sour cherry perfume from a wine-red bottle. I enjoy reading the choices of those who do experience this.
