Amouage Lustre, Outlands & Reasons ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 5 October 2024 6 Comments

Amouage has launched Essences, a new trio of fragrances: Lustre, Outlands and Reasons.

The Amouage Essences - three extraordinary expressions of the value of time. Compounded in Muscat by the perfumers themselves, the Perfumers’ Batch is available exclusively on Amouage.com. Each fragrance is highly concentrated containing 30% pure perfume oils that underwent a meticulous six-month aging process, including a double infusion with sandalwood chips and oak wood barrels, resulting in a deep, layered fragrance experience. Housed in an original, refillable bottle – the first new design introduced by Amouage in 15 years – the Essences represent a pinnacle of olfactory artisanship.

Lustre ~ developed by perfumers Julien Rasquinet and Paul Guerlain. "A light in the darkness. The gleam of a polished surface. Dazzling luminosity. Lustre begins with a spark – a burst of effervescent cardamom that fills the air with spicy vitality. The illumination is extended and softened by orris – a uniquely powdery material that adds a sheen of luxurious romanticism, causing the composition to glow with a rich elegance. The white creaminess of the orris is furthered by sandalwood, whose smooth personality projects a sense of perpetual seamlessness. At the scent’s conclusion, a delectable vanilla embraces the whole with warm, lingering sophistication. Reflecting, emanating and adoring light, Lustre is an unashamedly poetic olfactory expression of the desire to make the present last until the end of time." Additional notes include patchouli, cedar, benzoin, labdanum, ambrarome, cypriol, styrax, tonka bean and myrrh.

Outlands ~ developed by perfumer Cecile Zarokian. "The edge of imagination. Uncharted mysteries. A dance with the unknown. Outlands is an invitation to journey into the beyond. The opening note of the composition is unexpectedly light-hearted: an invigorating array of bright citruses, emphasised by zesty lemon. However, as the voyage continues, the landscape becomes more remote and more extraordinary. A rich, multi-faceted patchouli – projecting heat, humidity and verdancy in equal measure – compels the intrepid traveller to move deeper into the cryptic landscape. Finally, an amber accord – reverberating with the potency of balsams and resins – entices a progression to the ultimate encounter, where we find ourselves reflected and remade. As indescribable as it is familiar, Outlands makes use of extraordinary contrasts between light and shade to capture the ever-shifting inevitability of the future." Additional notes include cardamom, bergamot, sichuan pepper, elemi, frankincense, rose, orange blossom, cumin, geranium, wormwood, saffron, anise, coriander, benzoin, labdanum, frankincense, opoponax, maltol, vanilla, birch, musks and oud.

Reasons ~  developed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. "Cause and effect. Echoes of thought. A sequence of events. When it first emerges, Reasons is somewhat unassuming: its hazelnut opening presents a warmth that is comforting but also perhaps surprisingly unostentatious. But within moments, the scent grows, taking on an increasingly grander form. The part-herbaceous, part-fruity personality of davana creates layer upon layer of depth and complexity. Finally, the smoky woodiness of palo santo introduces a grounding, resonant earthiness – rooting the whole in a sense of timeless, harmonious stability. With tremendous complexity and gravitas, Reasons conveys the idea that although the past may be gone, its effects live on forever, supporting the present, while giving it meaning, depth and value." Additional notes include cardamom, cinnamon, schinus molle, patchouli, pine, cashmeran, white amber, cypriol, benzoin, cistus, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, myrrh, oakmoss and white musks.

Amouage Lustre, Outlands and Reasons are $450 each for 100 ml.

    These do sound incredible!
It’s been a while since Amouage got me excited for any of their creations though…

Price is too much of a deterrent for me on these!

One of the 3 sold out the day after release & the other 2 are almost out of stock so they’re halving to quickly re-stock, so the price isn’t deterring some people !

Oh, for sure there seems to be no price that will deter everybody 🙂

I suspect nearly the opposite…that there are lots of people who aren’t interested unless the pricing qualifies as luxury.

I’m not so enthusiastic I have to say. I think most things they’ve released the last couple of years were pretty bad (the Odyssey collection in particular comes to mind) and uninteresting. And at these prices… Personally I’m not even interested in trying them if I’d have the chance. It’s strange because the brand must have a quasi unlimited budget available for their creations.

Ha, see my comment above…the price is such a deterrent I have no interest. Never my favorite brand in any case and I have not tried any lately.
