It’s Friday, National Ice Cream Sandwich Day and James Baldwin’s birthday. Our community project for today is Silly Friday. Wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My plan for today was Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame, which checks several boxes AND smells good. Unfortunately yesterday did not go to plan and today isn't likely to either. I'm commando and thinking silly thoughts instead (and I hope to catch up on comments over the weekend; I still have not read Thursday).
Reminder: on 8/9, we're off to Greece! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Greece, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Greece, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Happy FiYay!
SOTD!
Etat Libre d’Orange Rien,the original.
Silly for the fact that it hardly smells like “nothing”….so good!
Love the brand for their cheeky marketing and interesting perfumes,I mean who can beat Secretions Magnifique?Lol.
XO’s
If I had Secretions Magnifique I’d wear it today. Smells so good on me… like the Atlantic Ocean of my childhood. I love Rien too.
You smell fabulous! I love Rien and recently had the chance to compare Rien and its DNA cousin Daphne. Antoine Lee is a such a talented perfumer.
By far the silliest thing I own is CSP Vanille Banane, so I’m in a couple hefty sprays of that today. It doesn’t even smell like actual bananas, it smells like banana candy. It’s completely ludicrous, the most preposterous thing to smell like, and I just love it. I would not wear it to work, but on a day off it’ll do nicely.
That sounds like so much fun!
I’m in Toy Boy from Moschino, which, while not a silly fragrance, does come in a bottle that could be described as silly. There’s a pop/kitsch look to it that reminds me of one of Jeff Koons’ balloon sculptures. Silly and delightful, to my eye, anyway. (I happen to love both the perfume AND the packaging.)
Happy Friday, all!
I had to look that one up, and I think you have a winning entry there! That is a stupid silly bottle, lol! I think the name is silly, too. Isn’t it backwards?
Yes, that is definitely a silly bottle.
Hello scent twin!
We smell good!😎
Thanks everyone for the Jorum Studio recommendations!
SOTD is Orange Marmalade by JM
Watching Maroc vs USA ⚽️ Olympics
Coffee made at home, double espresso. ☕️
Scent twins – it might be considered a trifle silly for a perfume to be inspired by a stuffed bear….?
Team USA lost, but I always have a soft spot for Maroc, so I am happy to cheer for them in future matches!

Thought you might like this, to coincide with James Baldwin’s birthday
I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday. I just want to give a big thumbs up to Jorum’s Trimerous. I tried a couple of their other woodier scents but they were a touch too rough-hewn for me, I can imagine someone who loves naturalistic scents would love them though.
Great photo, Robin! I remember that episode very well. My family were almost literally ROTFL. 🤣
And, I do hope that your mom is pulling through. 💗
SotD for my entry today is Twilly. It’s such a silly word, but in a cute way. And it rhymes!
This fragrance is outside the norm for me, but I thought it was very well done for one aimed at a younger market. Haven’t tried the flankers; one is enough. 😁
Hope everyone has a safe, healthy and fun weekend!
Extra points for rhyming!
Thanks, SheriG!
That would be a cute flanker name….. Silly Twilly
As long as the flanker isn’t, Twilly, at a Silly Price
😂👍
👍🏻
😂 Well done!
I’m taking CP points in Dior Cuir Cannage. It isn’t a silly perfume — far from it. BUT it is silly that it’s discontinued, it is silly that all one can find of it nowadays are those enormous 400 ml vats for even sillier prices … and it’s silly how gorgeous a fragrance it is. My white whale / holy grail, alongside Hermes Doblis. Anyway, hope everyone has a perfect weekend!
You smell wonderful! If it wasn’t 40C I would join you. Glad I sprung for a 250ml bottle when it was first released, it is one of their best.
Don’t you just hate it when that happens? 😢
I’m with you on Doblis, too. One of my big perfume regrets, that I didn’t bite the bullet and buy on when I had the chance. I think it’s the only JCE that I truly loved.
Assam of India
But of course. 🙂 Hope you are holding up in this hideous heat wave.
It’s been brutal. Especially with no AC. It’s supposed to cool down next week
I undertook a deep rummage through the archives for today’s CP and landed on seriously silly or at least somewhat satirical in the form of the last little remnants of my dropper bottle of the long d/c-ed
Dinner by bobo.
It is much, much less powerful stuff than it used to be and that is a good thing.
Now there’s a blast from the past!
I’ll say! 😄
I have never even heard of it.
I am doing a bit of a different take on the CP today. I am in Bath and Body Works On the Beach shower gel and lotion paired with Bronze Goddess Nuit. What is silly is that I smell like a beach on the ocean, and I am about as far from an ocean as I can get being in the Midwest. Hey, I had to try to use my imagination. It’s too uncomfortable with heat and humidity to wear some of my favorites.
Robin,
I forgot to give you hugs and good wishes for your mother. Hope by today everything is looking a little better for you.
I’m taking double points today for wearing SpongeBob’s Gary EdT. It is silly that such a thing exists and it is in a silly but cute little pinapple-shapped bottle. The scent itself is like salty coconut water, which works just fine for today’s temperature of 93-but-feels-like-103. And I didn’t plan my SOTD for this, but I think coconut ice cream with salty breton cookies would be a good ice cream sandwich combo.
Tea today is F&M Jubilee.
*pinapple-shaped bottle. Ugh, clearly I needed a stronger tea today!
What a great match for the CP!
By the way, my brain supplied the correct spelling there, and I would very much doubt if I were alone in that. 😉
Perfect choice for the CP!
Wearing Amouage Ashore. The only thing silly is this week-long heat wave with intense humidity we are suffering through. I love summer but this is over the top.
Robin, I hope your mom is doing better.
Very busy Thursday leading into a very busy weekend. 😅 I’m still leaving a light trail of Shalimar MT this morning from a generous application last night before bed. I will probably re-up with the same before I head into work.
Korean skincare/makeup update:
So far I have fallen in love with the Beauty of Joseon SPF 50 PA++++! I had a breakout when I first tried it but not sure what it was from because I slapped a bunch of different things on at once. Since then I’ve been wearing it exclusively as my sunscreen and zero problems. Its light, almost watery texture is a breeze to apply, spreads easily, and dries down to a non-greasy finish that is completely invisible.
Snail Barrier Repair Intensive BB Cream #21 SPF 50 PA+++. Another immediate love! I don’t wear this heavy enough to use as a sunscreen, besides which I always apply a separate sunscreen as the last step in AM skincare. A small amount does an absolutely beautiful job of evening out skin tone. It has one of the most lovely finishes I’ve ever seen. Not dewy, not matte, but a gentle glowing pearlized finish that makes the skin look so healthy. The color was scary when I first applied it, but as it’s blended across the face it merges into you skin tone in the most beautiful way. It’s a 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 winner for me.
Peripera Glossy Stains: very nice but easily dupable with many OTC lip products here in the US.
CosRx 6 Peptide Skin Booster: Too early to tell if it’s having any real effect but skin care products like this take a while to show any visible improvement. I use it twice daily and when I’m done with the bottle I will try to decide if it’s worth continuing. So far it’s nice and light, absorbs readily, and other skincare/makeup layers perfectly over it.
Happy weekend!

That’s awesome! I hope he gets a sponsorship.
Oh, that was so cool! Love those guys anyway but this makes it even better. Thanks for posting!
Very impressive. I can sometimes pick up scents on others but I am usually too shy to mention, even if I recognize it.
Wow! Very impressive. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for this report! Mine will arrive on Monday and I’ll report back then.
Smoothie is fresh strawberries.
I wore Prescriptives Calyx today, I keep it in the fridge. It radiated so nicely on a moderately hot day, 26C. Tonight for the CP it’s Babycat although I’m glad to have a perfume which references felines.
What do you think about Babycat? I will retry it in the fall, but it didn’t sit right with me on first try.
I agree it’s the wrong season for it, I like its vanilla, find it interesting because it’s complex, but then I like the combo of incense/vanilla as I have Mystic Incense and Vanagloria.
I meant to say yesterday Babycat was a perfect choice for this cp!
Hello!
Not very CP worthy scent this way, Chanel No. 5 edt
Enjoying some cloud cover and a pink lemonade soon:).
Happy Friday!
Enjoy the clouds!
I am doing the anti- CP, well, the anti-silly perfume, Mitsouko, which by all accounts is considered the antithesis of silly. However, I am wearing it today on a “clean up and file or toss all those piles of old papers” extravaganza, so I suppose one could say what a silly perfume to be wearing for such a tedious mundane task? Stay cool, and cheer for Team USA, or whoever b eat out TEAM USA in any particular event, since the victors deserve support…unless there are serious underdogs that need all the help they can get.
Do you just toss old papers or shred them first? I have to get back on the tossing bandwagon soon.
I live in the boondocks and take my garbage myself to a transfer station where paper plastic and glasses gets compressed to a big dumpster, into what looks like impenetrable blocks, so I don’t bother shredding, I just put paper, washed kitchen plastic, cardboard and glass into big plastic bags for easy transport and watch it all be consumed by the maw of the compressor! If I lived where garbage sat around on the street, I probably would shred, just to abate adorable hubby’s “I work for cyber-security and see plots and bad guys everywhere” anxiety.
Robin, I hope you mom is doing better today.
I’m wearing SmellBent Horny Little Devil today.
You win the cp!
Smell Bent has the goofiest names! It was a no-brainer.
Wearing Dame Peach Blossom, Violet & Vanilla today and notes are below. This one was discontinued and I got when it went on sale. It’s good for summer and I mostly get peach, violet and vanilla. 🍑🍨
Top notes are peach blossom, red berries, hyacinth and bergamot Middle notes are parma violet, jasmine and rose
Base notes are tahitian vanilla, driftwood and musk
I like that one.
I ❤️ this one, too. One of the few I bought a whole bottle of.
I thought I’d wear L’eau de Dagg, which is made from oils extracted from sheep daggs ( wool around tail and belly! The scrappy bits, torn and dirty bits). It makes the sir smell like a shearing shed, which is a nice smell…wool, poo, paddocks). I can see Jupiter shining brightly through my window so it might be a fine day, too dark to tell. I will wash off Dagg before I go out as it is very fecal, and replace with Lust which obviously didn’t have a fact checker in its creative committee as the usual response is, “ what’s that smell? Did you just empty the compost “ etc.
I once was standing in line with a lady wearing Lust. I recognized it right away, but a couple of other people kept asking “What’s that smell?” LOL.
I think you win the silly prize!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Rahat Loukhoum
Seriously wonderful! I got this in Vancouver (back in the 20-teens) where I met some NSTers for sniffing, food and wine …

In other news, I was at the mall yesterday and decided to stop by Chick-fil-A to see what’s what with the Maple Bacon Pepper chicken sandwich meal. Almost $14, which isn’t bad for the meal that also included fries and a drink. Because I did not need the fries nor the soda, I just asked how much it would be just for the sandwich. Let’s just say that I must have jumped back 10 feet when the very nice cashier said $9.95! I must say I haven’t been to a fast food restaurant in ages that I was shocked, completely shocked! Anyway, as I turned to go, the guy said would I like a free sandwich? Would I look a gift horse in the mouth (right expression?)? I of course said yes and ended up with a plain chicken sandwich and 2 large nuggets. Not bad, eh? I wonder if I looked like I was starving?
That was very customer service friendly of them!
Fast food prices have definitely reached silly heights!
I am wearing my silliest named perfume. Michael Kors Sexy Rio de Janeiro. Such a silly name that I say it like a game show host. ” you’re going to Sexy Rio de Janeiro!” It’s a big white floral and I love it.
The humidity drops tomorrow, but I’m in no rush for cooler temperatures. School starts in less than 3 weeks. It feels like a short summer to me.
Robin.. you picked the perfect picture. I hope that your mom is doing ok.
I didn’t know this perfume, bwf sounds good. I don’t want summer to be over, let’s enjoy August.
Wearing Lush/Gorilla Perfumes The Bug as I think that’s a pretty silly name. On other silly topics, my husband likes to joke around that he’s “Always serious, never silly, applied inconsistently”
I had a hard time thinking of a silly perfume but decided on Orgasmo. First, it’s a silly word and concept. Second, who would expect this to be an almond vanilla pastry bomb? I’d think it should be maximum indolic jasmine or whatever. Anyway it’s making me smile. I just hope nobody asks me what I’m wearing because it’s too embarrassing.
For today’s cp, I chose Marc Jacobs original ‘Honey’ from 2013. Only because I reviewed the spreadsheet I keep listing all my fragrances did I find this. I have no idea when or how I got it and can’t remember the last time I wore it, as the bottle was hidden beneath another.
Despite its name, ‘Honey’ is really a light fruity/floral with just a touch of soft honey, and not too overwhelming on yet another hot and humid day here. The bottle is the silly part: I’m guessing it’s supposed to be a bee. A chubby yellow bottle with white polka dots and what appears to be a black-and-white striped butterfly as both its nose and its tail give it a whimsical appearance and can’t help but make one smile. 😊
We had a nice weekend in Michiana and at the Pierogi Fest and then came home Monday to the yucky hot, humid weather just in time to have the a/c in the main part of our house break down, still waiting for it to be replaced. Then yesterday I found out in a very roundabout way that at least 5 of her relatives came down with Covid from the wedding we attended nearly 2 weeks ago (no notice from the wedding itself). I had sat adjacent to 2 of them at our table all during the reception and talked with a third for quite awhile, so I took a Covid test yesterday and luckily it was negative. 😰. But, who knows, I could’ve been infected in the interim and passed it on to Mr. Laila’s sister, who accompanied us to Michiana and whose elderly boyfriend has some serious lung and heart issues. We should have been notified much sooner by one of the wedding organizers.
Looking for a respite this weekend from the heat, politics, and all our recent running-around. Going to see my favorite cellist tomorrow, and anticipating the ☮️ and love ❤️ his concerts always bring me, I’m sending it out to all of you this weekend! ✌️ 💗 🤗
Robin. adding my good wishes for your mom. Hope she’s better soon. And sending you an extra measure of ☮️ and ❤️.🤗
Oh no, keeping my fingers cross that Mr L’s sister and her boyfriend did not catch it!
It’s a sunny morning here, another glimpse of spring after a week of the coldest weather we’ve had all winter.
I’ve looked at my list of FBs and I think the silliest name is Mad Madame, so I might wear that later.
My clothes still smell of Magenta Tanzanite, my latest purchase. It qualifies as a silly price, and almost silly for the pink bottle, but it’s so pink that it crosses over into magnificence.
Robin, I hope things are going well for your mom and that you’ll have a stress-free weekend.
I’m joining Daniel in Boy Toy today. The bottle and name are definitely on the fun/whimsical side of silly, rather than the foolish side.
I just realized I could’ve worn Lush’s Jilted Elf body spray! Have a great weekend, everyone!
I’ve mostly sweated off my Spirituelle.
A tough couple of days. My father’s health took a turn for the worse but so far he has survived.
Their house is a right mess, and we have been cleaning and doing laundry for ages.
Getting enough care for them is tough and their GP would ideally like us to do more for them. It’s a complete impossibility for me, working full time and a six hour drive away. I wish I had more sensible parents, but alas.
I’m sorry to hear about your father and his declining heath. It can be so challenging to take care of aging parents, especially the ones (like my father) who didn’t always make it easy.
We’ve always had a bad relationship so whatever I’m doing is out of a sense of duty.
Sorry to hear that. I hope your dad improves. Very stressful for you. I think if anything happens to my mother,I would have to move her here close to me. Taking care of family members is often a full time job.
My parents would not be willing to move, and it would not be wise either. I live in another country with another language. They are struggling to understand their native tongue these days. We will have to see how it goes.
Sorry about your dad and your stressful, difficult situation. My dad was such a stubborn cuss in his last years.
Sorry to hear about your Dad’s health issues. It can definitely be difficult, depending on circumstances. I completely understand the “sense of duty” situation, and wishing you good luck with whatever you need to deal with.
So sorry about the situation, it’s difficult to deal with ageing parents especially when they are reluctant.
Thinking of you and your mom today, Robin💕
The name isn’t silly, Caron’s Pour Une Femme, but the (lost in) translation from French to English on the back of the box is something else.
I should add that the bottle is a woman’s body and the sprayer is actually under her feet.
“My four sweet bursts of tenderness
are yours afresh
if you just flip me over.”
😬
Oh. My.
Haha!Love that descriptor!Very french,no?🤣🤣
I dug out my sample of ELDO Fat Electrician which I think I bought primarily because of the silly name. Also, the reviews of this are all over the place with people picking out various notes. To me, the fragrance itself is not at all silly. I do get vetiver and a rubbery vanilla note – like Bvlgari Black – but also I get some sort of cinnamon or other spice. Not sure I need a full bottle but it was a good wear.
Sorry to hear about all the heat people are enduring. We have had a remarkably mild summer but I think another “heat dome” is coming. I have not had to resuscitate my plants yet, since we have had rain. I used to get worked up about all the “back to school” stuff being set out in mid July but now that I don’t have school age kids I see it as a welcome sign that summer is half over.
My arms are stained orange with today’s silly perfume name – Lush Flying Fox body spray. Actually, I think it’s time for a refresh and, consequently, a re-staining. 😂
Yesterday I had to go into my fragrance free office for a work event so I didn’t put on perfume until the evening, but I went with the silly sounding Jazz Berry Mint from Soivohle. I don’t love a super minty perfume, but in this one I’m fine with the mint. I forgot about it a couple weeks ago during the mint cp.
In candle news, my favorite summer candle arrived this week, just in time for warm temps. It’s Isle of Jasmine by Keap, a green, banana-laden jasmine. I believe Christophe Laudamiel is the nose for this one and most or all of their candles.
Hi, late to the party today. I’m wearing Zoologist Cow for the CP because I think the illustration of the cow is silly. So is the name Cow, but the scent is a light green, pretty floral that is especially nice in the summer.
Hope you and your mom are doing well, Robin.
