It's Friday and the first full day of summer, plus World Music Day and the International Day of Yoga. And, we're expecting the full Strawberry Moon tonight. RIP Donald Sutherland. Our community project for today: celebrate the season with your bestest summer fragrance. If you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
At the last minute my hand went to Parfum d'Empire Corsica Furiosa.
Reminder: 6/28 is Henry VIII's birthday, and we're off to England. Wear a perfume that is named for a place in England, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to England, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Thanks everyone!
Happy Scented Birthday to you and your daughter lillyjo! 🎈✨🎉🎁🎂🍾
May you have all the best things happen for this new year.
Happy Birthdays!
I sorted my perfumes and got out my summer rotation, 11 summery favorites to wear in order when I am lacking inspiration to veer off routine. Today is Bukhara, which is smelling lightly carroty in our increasingly humid little patch of temperate rains forest in Mid-Michigan. Just writing this is making the perfume bloom, as the “dew” rises on my skin. Maybe I will go ahead and turn the air conditioner on now, and see if I can cut through the humidity before it really starts to heat up her….Happy Summer, one and all….
I must be terribly lightweight…I have had my a/c on for ages.
Today I’m in the summeriest thing I know — it even has summer in the name: Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Été, sultry beachy warmth with two of my favourite notes, carnation and vanilla. Best blind buy ever — I knew I’d love it just from reading about it, and I was right.
I love this one and should’ve kept my bottle years ago. You smell marvelous.
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum. I love this so much. It makes me happy and feel all bronzed up. I bought my bottle when I was in Spain so every time I wear it I am transported back.
You all smell so good in your Terracotta!
Agreed 👍
Agreed.
Beautiful perfume with a bottle to match!
Hi all! Happy Solstice.
I can’t really wear my favorite summer scents today…the weather just doesn’t suit. It’s cool and rather wet feeling. Thunderstorms expected in the overnight hours.
You reminded me of Terracotta Le Parfum, so I’m joining that bandwagon. It’s summer, but sultry and thick and not citrusy and green (like most of my summer ones.). Perfect for today.
Starting work at my computer but I’m sure the little terrors will interrupt me with some random mischief. They run around a lot and get into trouble in the morning, but then crash for a few hours so peace reigns in the later morning/early afternoon. I also had no idea how much kittens eat…it’s like having teenage boy athletes in the house.
Terracotta is gorgeous!
Happy to hear that your little furmonsters are healthy and active. 😻😻
Happy summer!
I’m at my daughter’s house while her husband is out of town and I forgot my summer perfume but will wear it this weekend. Of course it’s No 5 L’Eau this year, I’m kind of obsessed! Meantime, I’m surrounded by granddogs, which I enjoy. Larry the cat will be displeased with all the dog smells when I get home.
Love your choice! Granddogs are the best! Not that I would know, but I imagine you get a lot of pleasure but get to hand them back before you have to pay any vet bills. Hopefully. 😄
Time to bring Larry the cat a special treat when you get back? Maybe he’ll be less displeased by Eau de Dogge that way.
Since everyone was wearing Guerlain yesterday I felt left out of the party.
Not sure this counts as points but I am in the Shalimar Cologne from a generous NSTer that sent me this awhile back. It’s a long bottle cylinder bottle.
Speaking of Guerlain, I get the shop France emails and I see the scents for the travel sprays are Cuir Beluga, Rose Barbare, AN, Herbes T, Rose Cherie, MO, Cherry oud, Neroli Ob, Neroli PS. I am hiding my credit card..what scent would you pick?
Back at the library and hoping to improve my Baldwin talk.
Reading “All Fours” so far so good.
Tomorrow for summer solstice I will be celebrating at St. John the Divine with Paul Winters.
I would pick Rose Cherie.
Me too.
If I could pick one? Rose Barbare.
This! Rose Barbare is one of my HG rose perfumes.
I’ve never smelled any of these, alas, so my blind buy would be either Cuir Beluga or one of the roses.
Cuir Beluga is a good choice, and Rose Cherie (sample from a lovely NST’er) is delightful!
Happy Solstice, one and all!
Wearing Mantes-la-Jolie, which is fast becoming my favorite warm weather scent. It’s just so green, and herbal, and gorgeous. My 10mL bottle is a third gone, and I only bought this in February!
That’s been on my list to try since I heard of it. Okay, in the cart it goes!
Your scent sounds really pretty.
Kevin likes that one too, I really need to try it.
I’m celebrating this glorious morning by wearing “Dune” from Dior – the olfactory equivalent of wearing a white linen shirt at the beach on an early summer’s day.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Yes to Dune. I’ve never sniffed the men’s version – which one are you wearing?
Happy Friday to you, too!
I’m wearing the Esprit de Parfum – women’s version – from a pretty old bottle. Magical stuff.😊 (I suppose it leans “feminine,” but I don’t think it’s a stretch to call it unisex, in this day and age.)
I’ve never smelled the original men’s version; the current formulation is rather bloodless and unimpressive.
Thanks! I’ve never sniffed that version. I would also call the women’s version unisex; a man could easily wear this, and I’m glad you do!
I’ve been so curious about the vintage men’s version, but after a big mistake, I’ve sworn not to buy FBs unsniffed. Even vintage! 🙃
The Esprit is richer than the EdT; both are gorgeous. (I haven’t smelled the current formulation – I’m spoiled by the vintage bottles, I guess.)
And I’ve made plenty of mistakes buying un-sniffed bottles. I should really learn my lesson, but I’m a lousy student.😊
Except maybe this one or the Esprit. 😂
You smell wonderful – one of my top of the tops!
Thanks – it’s one of my favorites, too!
The women’s version of Dune is easily unisex/”ungendered”. And one of the strangest perfumes I have.
Happy Solstice!
I wore a summery scent earlier – Acqua di Parma Cipresso di Toscana. Now I just dabbed a bit of Lush Death&Decay (solid). Powdery lily.
The second mini UPS died too – after working less than one month. So I am currently without backup power for Internet. Again.
Finished reading “Verdict of Twelve” by Raymond Postgate, and it was heavier than I expected. I wanted a cosy classic mystery and got a dark tale of child and animal abuse and death. Had to skip several pages and cried at a later point of the book. It is a well written book, which made me think of human nature and how it affects society. At the same time, still a solid mystery and courthouse drama. Very character driven. But if I had known some of the plot points, I would not have read it, because these things are really distressing for me.
You’re dealing with a lot on a daily basis so it’s completely understandable that when reading you don’t want dark material.
Yikes. Sorry that your choice of reading material turned out to be such a downer.
Will you get another UPS? Or are they just not reliable enough for the task?
Well, still a good book. Just maybe not the best choice for my current mental state.
I have ordered (but not paid for yet) a third one. Three times a charm and all that. I am going to ask the seller what happens if it breaks. They do give a one year warranty. The second one was on warranty too, and I sent it back today. Let’s see if I get a refund or a new one (two UPS would not hurt under these circumstances).
Also a friend helping me with choosing an external battery + UPS which could be used for a gas boiler and internet too. The problem is Russian attacks on power stations continue. At some point, nothing will be enough unless attacks stop or the government finds ways to solve the problem.
I have a hard time finding new mystery series for just that reason, Glannys.
Yes, it is typically either something silly or dark. Hard to find a classic whodunit which distracts your brain and lets you escape from reality for a while, without depressing or horrifying the reader.
I have recently finished the new Poirot series by Sophie Hannah. My impressions are mixed, but at the very least these books deliver in that regard. Have you tried them?
I have not. I only fairly recently read all the original Poirots (I read all the Miss Marple series when I was young but did not appreciate Poirot at the time). I will look at them!
I did just start the series by Nicola Upson where the protagonist is a fictionalized Josephine Tey. They are decent, somewhat dark but not horribly so (at least the one I read so far) but Josephine Tey was better, I might just reread those! Might also go reread all the Rex Stouts, I really enjoyed those.
Just do not expect new Poirot books to be as good as originals. Still very entertaining, im my opinion.
I am so glad you like Rex Stout! His Nero Wolfe’s series might be my favorite mysteries (along with Christie’s books).
If you don’t mind a fantasy setting, Randall Garrett’s Lord Darcy books are excellent. They were written a long time ago, so you might have read them already. They are very much like classic whodunits, despite being set in an alternate reality where magic exists. The protagonist is modeled after Sherlock Holmes, and there are two characters who are spoofs of Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin.
Oh thank you, I will look at the Lord Darcy series…no, had not even heard of them.
I’m wearing grapefruit in the form of Pamplelune. A summer favorite, and I haven’t worn it in ages.
This is a friend’s favourite freshie, as she calls it
Well, Robin, since your hand steered you astray (😉), I’m representing in lavish spritzings of Azemour Les Oranges. For the moment, we’re having blissfully typical summer weather here — sunshine and mid- to high-80s — and I can feel my internal thermostat resetting itself for the season.
I was so surprised not to be in Azemour! What can you do?
We are NOT having blissfully typical summer weather here, instead we’re crazy hot for June.
Twinning with Robin in Corsica Furiosa because it’s wonderful from the first breathtaking spritz to the delicate glowing far dry down…💖
Corsica Furiosa, Fils de Dieu, and Eau de Crypt are perfumes I think of as your “signatures”.
Don’t forget her different Shalimars.
Exactly!
Stayed downtown yesterday after work as I was meeting a friend for supper, and I somehow ended up perfume shopping. Very strange.
I’d been wanting to get Eau des Merveilles for a while and not only picked up the gift set, but got it for 1/3 off by using points. Supper was great too…
I have loved that one this summer, but is good anytime of the year.
Sounds like you had fun, congratulations on your new bottle.
Congrats on the EdM! My summer fave❤️
Ah, sometimes the spur of the moment shopping and purchases are the best!
Nice bargain you got on the EdM!
EdM is lovely! I have a sample that I used completely, and still huff the atomizer. Great deal made even better with points!
Hello!
One of my fave scents for summer is Eau d’ Hadrien by Annick Goutal. Such a nice, fresh lemon fragrance, perfect for a dry, hot summer day. So, I have a few spritzes of that on.
Gorgeous pic of the Sierras. I used to live right on the foothills of the Sierras, while beautiful, it was also way too cold and snowy! I don’t miss the cold, ice, snow, traffic jams on I-80 due to bad weather, etc. Lol.
I do sorta fuss about the summers here but who wouldn’t? Lol. It gets to be 120f on the extreme side, usually in July. I love the Mojave though, it’s so beautiful and a lovely change from the years up by the chilly mountains. Lake Tahoe is gorgeous though and I do tend to want to visit there during the scorch of summer here lol. Tahoe in the winter though? Forget about it! Lol.
Have a great day everyone! 🌹
You smell divine! I wore that late yesterday — so gorgeous.
Thank you!
I love Eau d’Hadrien, it’s one of my favourites too. You smell great!!
Thank you! It is very nice indeed:).
I chose my most favorite summer fragrance, Rhubarb Ecarlate. I could bathe in the stuff, and I’m wearing nine sprays.
You smell great, I enjoy so many from Hermès:).
Cristalle Eau Verte for me today (no surprise there). I am delighted that I can actually smell it — came home from vacation with a nasty upper-respiratory (non-COVID) bug that has lingered for more than a week. Had no sense of taste or smell for about 48 hours, but it all started coming back yesterday.
I was expecting to thunk this bottle last summer, and did not; it will probably get used up by the end of August. I’ll definitely replace it next summer — if Chanel hasn’t made the price ridiculous.
Hope you feel better soon. At least it’s not Covid. 🤗
Thank goodness you didn’t get COVID!
Glad you got your smell back!
We received six inches of rain overnight. More on the way today. I still decided to do a summery scent with Bronze Goddess Nuit. I like this one better than the original as it has more of a floral scent to me. I don’t like quite so much coconut.
That’s a lot of rain!
Ack! 6 inches of rain?!? No wonder you have Flash Flood Warnings.
And it’s raining again as I write this.
Eau d’été, Parfums de Nicolaï. I love all of her summer fragrances but this one is my favourite and incidentally my first finished bottle of niche perfume. I just started on my BUB today .
Not very summery but quite warm and very humid.
You smelled great today austenfan! I wish my Eau Exotique was in better shape…
Hello to all my perfume pals here! I’ve been away for a while and it feels like a long time. I’ve been wearing my fragrances inside since it’s been a combo sauna/steambath here for the last three days. Heat index hovering around 103F and humidity to match. Thankfully, the wave has passed and today is only 81, although still humid.
Joining AnnieA in my fave summer fragrance, which has never been knocked off its pedestal: Eau des Merveilles. I have four flankers and love them all, which is unheard of for me.
Also joining austenfan in my first finished bottle of niche perfume.
Happy weekend to everyone- be careful out there with that beautiful full moon!
Always a good choice. I wore that scent yesterday.
Twins a day apart. ☀️
Glad to hear that the heat wave has broken for you!
Thanks, Jalapeno! Have you been having extreme weather, too?
Yep, but not heat. There’s been plenty of Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings in my area lately. Hoping I don’t see any more hail this summer.
Hail? 😦 I hope not.
Thank you for the reminder…almost forgot to go out and see the Strawberry Moon!
I would if it weren’t raining. 😕
Congratulations on finishing a niche bottle.
Thanks, Aurora! I don’t know if I’ll ever do it again, though. 😄
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
Today it was Eau de Guerlain, another great citrus, I applied from an oldish bottle, I also have a vintage which still smells fresh and is a bit different. Tonight it’s vintage Jolie Madame EDT from a bottle that leaks slightly which is kind of annoying.
I don’t like leaky bottles. My Mugler Over the Musk leaks a little every time I spray it.
Oh, boo hiss on leaky perfume bottles!
I’m a close relative of several of you above because I’m wearing Elixir des Merveilles, which I have always preferred to the Eau, though I do have it too. It strikes me as a bit stronger and more juicy orange-y. Both are great summer choices, I think! Went out for a fun lunch with old friends today, ones I just don’t see often enough, and need to get together with more. We went to a very tiny but pretty little Greek place; it’s actually run by people from Crete, and their menu is a lot different from your standard Greek menu fare, adding in more seasonal and healthy option. Yummy. It’s TOO HOT and I”m just going to hole up indoors now for as long as I can.
I did go to a Home Goods store next to the restaurant and had fun there–always cool stuff to find. I like browsing their odd exotic food options, and bought some French blackberry jam and a jar of lavender honey–??–can’t wait to try it. I’m having success feeding birds out on my porch (along with squirrels) and it occurred to me to find some sort of birdbath if I could. I’ve come home with a big stainless steel dog bowl that sits up on a little kind of wire pedestal. Maybe it will work for birds? It’s big enough for a dove to splash around in. I’ll just have to be sure to keep it out of the sun because that stainless steel will get too hot. I’ll report in on it later.
You smell great too!
I love the Elixir version, but for me it’s my winter Merveilles as I find it more sweet, almost gourmand. But you smell wonderful! Good luck with the birdbath- we have several and the birds ❤️ them.
Elixir is a good one, and I love the bottle!
Oooooooh, I’d love to try food from Crete! I enjoy Greek food but only have it once in a very great while.
I now love and own the Elixir through the kindness of another generous NSTer. I also love the sound of that restaurant!
Today’s cp was an easy one for me: Hermes Eau Des Merveilles, an orange, woody, salty, skin scent on me. Fragrances that speak to me of the sea, marine but not aquatic or beachy, as this one does [and its Bleue version in close proximity as a summer favorite], are what I reach for most during the hot weather months.
Summer’s been here all week with temps in the 90’s like much of the country. What I look forward to most this time of year are outdoor concerts (where I live there are free outdoor concerts every day except Sunday at numerous nearby suburbs) and as many afternoon trips to the pool as possible, and I’ve been working on it all week! Skipped the pool today due to a yoga class and grocery shopping, but looking forward to tonight’s concert in the park in my own town, a Taylor Swift tribute band recreating her Eras tour. Should be a whole lotta fun! 🎵
And speaking of concerts, last Friday’s Hauser concert was incredible! I knew nothing about him until Mr. Laila won tickets and Wow! Just Wow! 😳Excellent musician and very easy on the 👀. ❤️. During the pandemic when he was unable to tour, he did a series of videos ‘Alone Together’ featuring the beauty of his home country, Croatia. If you need a little bit of soothing, give this one a watch (even better when casted on a large screen TV).

Happy Summer 🌞🏊♀️🎶 (and warm thoughts if it’s winter where you are) to all!
EdM Bleue is a wonderful summer perfume choice!
Yes, it is. I put Bleue on tonite for the outdoor summer concert.
As I have said before, I wore this yesterday. I should have grabbed it today like a good share of you did.
Yes, I saw your post yesterday and meant to comment on it. I really enjoyed the EdM all day as I was inside in air conditioned comfort. Now it’s nearly 9 pm here and still 86 humid degrees at the outdoor concert, and I’m glad I’m wearing just a touch of Bleue. 🥵
I’m popping by later than usual, all my home routines are disrupted when I’m staying with my mother. I’ll wear Idole from Lubin this morning because that’s what’s on my jacket from yesterday.
Hope you have a nice visit!
How is your Mom doing?
For the CP, I thought about wearing Strawberry EdT from The Body Shop in honor of the strawberry moon, which was beaming down in all its glory last night as I walked the dog, who was happily surprised by a nighttime walk.
But after a run and shower this morning, i settled on EL Bronze Goddess Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche, a perfect salty beachy pick me up. But it doesn’t last long, maybe my bottle is slowly losing its power, so now I’m in Hiris. I think I would have bought this for the beautiful cobalt bottle alone, but the scent is also light and summery, a yummy green floral iris.
Those two might be the most summery fragrances in my cabinet.
Stay cool, everyone, and have a great weekend. I like hearing about all your choices.
Is it the strawberry resin that comes in a small fat bottle with an applicator wand? You did say it was the EDT. The only reason I am mentioning this is because I was highly allergic to it … I am still here so it wasn’t life-threatening, just a caution to be very careful and which is why I usually apply by spraying and walking into the mist.
Thanks for the warning, hajusuuri. I’m sorry you had that experience. Mine is a spray EdT, rather light but quite pleasant. I wonder if you are referring to the perfume oils that Body Shop made some decades ago. They were quite strong and came in 15 ml and 30 ml and had applicator wands. I actually love those too and they have a cult following and came in everything from patchouli to strawberry and jasmine. Oh, and I forgot my *most* summery heat-quenching perfume in my earlier post — Eau du Sud from Annick Goutal. I like both it and Hadrien but Sud has more of a green herbal bite, with basil and other greenies.
I have been stuck in front of my computer and working since the early morning and it’s 37C / 99F outside here in Maryland suburbs, with our front door burning hot to the touch, so I wanted something fresh and cheerful but not just a straight up cologne and I reached for April Aromatics Liquid Dreams, which has a beautiful lemon top note on top of osmanthus and narcissus absolute. I’m slowly recovering from work exhaustion and I’m on my way to take our toddler to indoor playground because it’s just too hot to go outside and I think this perfume will work nicely in a noisy indoor space full of screaming kids.
It is way too hot! I hope you and your toddler enjoyed the indoor playground.
I started keeping a squirt bottle full of water for those burning hot door handles on my car.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine
… from the GORGEOUS special edition Orange Sanguine bottle by Steven Burke. I have worn OS from this bottle I almost forgot I have it!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C8foAzzxNr0/?igsh=ZXVzZ3cxbGU1Nmk5
I went to Wegmans today because I had to buy a few small things and I wanted to use my debit card like a credit card as part of some scheme I’ve entered into way back when was such that if I followed the rules, I would get a better interest rate. Anyway, I have to use it 10x per month which is not a hard thing to do but I just have to be mindful that I do it. For the first time ever, a worker decided to just tear off the receipts on the self-service machine I was using WITHOUT ASKING ME IF THE RECEIPTS WERE MINE! I know it’s a small thing but I felt somehow VIOLATED. NO ONE had EVER EVER EVER done this to me since the advent of self-service checkouts! NEVER EVER. My look probably got her scared half to death because she kept apologizing. I really should have asked to speak to a supervisor but nothing they could do would have fixed the issue. I may still complain tomorrow now that I’ve calmed down …
I should have said I have rarely worn from the beautiful bottle …
Hopefully they give you some sort of discount or freebie for the receipt incident.
You smell great!
We’ll see once I follow-up
I’ve noticed that people are collecting receipts at the Costco I shop at. But at least they ask about the receipt before they grab it at those self checkout stands.
You might want to be on the lookout at your Costco, fwiw.
Costco and Whole Foods asked before touching the receipt…which is why I was very perplexed with Wegmans.
Very cute bottle.
Thanks!
Enjoying seeing all the summer scents everyone picked. I need to try Hermes Eau de Merveilles since it gets so much love here.
Wearing EL Bronze Goddess, more “summer” than most of my scents. This is such a workhorse for me and really wearable in so many occasions. Mercifully, in the 90’s today and we got rain that we needed from the tropical storm to the south. The plants are happy.
Dreading the summer heat. At least the AC got mended but we will likely need to get a new one in the spring.
I need to get out my EL BG roller ball. I do really like it, but it tends to get lost in the sample/travel size drawer. You smell lovely!
Greetings from the Heat Dome.
It’s been a full rotation of bestest summer scents all week by absolute necessity – Thé pour un Été made two showings, as did Guerlain AA Pamplelune, so I went with MH Tangerine Verte today just to switch things up. Tomorrow may be FM Bigarade Concentree…
Ugh, I have a new Heat Dome setting up shop where I live this weekend. I feel your pain. 🥵
I hope it isn’t too bad where you are, Jalapeno. It has also been a bit damp here – so at least my garden is very happy!
Haven’t hit triple digits yet, so it’s not bad at all. But July The Hot will be here before I know it. 🔥🔥🔥
There’s a hot air balloon festival going on in the town where my brother lives this weekend. I will try to get up at oh dark are you kidding me to see the liftoff one of the days. I am NOT a morning person, LOL.
Used one of my favorite shower gels for summer today: LUSH Good Karma. As a bonus, my bathroom smells great for hours afterwards.
SOTD = Alaia EdP, the original. This perfume comes into its own in the heat of summer. I smell notes that don’t otherwise show up. And it blooms beautifully.
I love seeing a sky full of hot air balloons!
Hopefully I will get some good pictures!
But ugh, that early morning start. 😣🥱
Have a great time this weekend!
It’s been awhile since I have seen Alaia mentioned.
Thanks lillyjo!
We went on a hot air balloon ride over the Sonoma Valley wine country once, yep, had to be there pre-dawn (not a morning person either) but it was so worth it. One of the most beautiful experiences of my life, I was one with the universe, both the earth and the sky, hard to describe but absolutely thrilling!
Not sure anyone is carrying passengers at this festival. But looking forward to seeing some balloons up close!
Enjoy the hot air balloon festival!
Thank you!
For the CP, a perfume love from pre-perfumista days: White Linen. I’ve never tried any flankers, but I did eye the Pink Coral one because of the adorable sea horse on the bottle! Yesterday I splashed on a handful of 4711. It smelled wonderful, but quite soon I could smell nothing! It was just pleasant and cooling, but I still want my sillage and a lingering base.
I mentioned this up top, but on case you didn’t see it..
Estee lauder website has the exclusive line on sale in the last chance section.
Ooh, it is good. Although it is a spring scent for me, but I can wear it on a cool summer day.
Oh, I have the Pink Coral and really like it as the summer progresses, in July and August.
Ooh, it is good. Although it is a spring scent for me, but I can wear it on a cool summer day.
That was a reply to Mossy Berry.
Not particularly summery, but I’m wearing ELdO Rien (Antoine Lee) and loving it more than ever. I went for this because I just received my bottle of Daphne, the fragrance that Antoine Lee did for CdG/Daphne Guinness and it’s easy to smell their shared DNA. Perfume is endlessly fascinating!
