I have a few scents that have myrrh in them, if you believe Basenotes (and why not?), including YR Voile d’Ambre and Tauer Lonestar Memories: I ran out of my one myrrh-based scent, I Coloniali Mirra & Mirra, a while ago, alas. The only scent I own that I (think I) can actually identify it in is my old standby, Parfum d’Hermès extrait, so that’s what I’m in today. It also has a definite incense note towards the end, and the bottle has golden fittings, so you could say it’s gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Maybe that’s why I wore it on Christmas Day: it feels very Christmassy to me, all rich golden tones and fireside warmth, honestly one of the greatest scents ever made.
Gosh have not smelled it in a long time, but I am sure you smell fantastic.

I’m in Goutal’s Myrhhe Ardent, which I completely love. I even have some matching body cream-really miss their creams that matched each scent. I’ve tried their universal cream but the texture is different, and I don’t find it blends with each scent-it’s a bit too potent for that.
My other choice was Guerlain’s Myrrhe et Delires. I love its bulb spray-makes me feel glamorous 🙂
It is really nice but not my favorite Hermessence ever…but still, really nice and I am not sorry I got the 15 ml.

I was going to wear Hermes Myrrhe Églantine but I totally forgot about the CP, instead I am wearing Acqua di Parma Vaniglia.
The other day a patient was wearing this amazing vanilla perfume, this time I asked. She was very nice, we talked about perfume, she even called her mom to ask for a picture of her bottle, it was Acqua di Parma Vaniglia which i never heard before.
I got a sample at Holts, I am really enjoying it a lot. I might ask a FB for my birthday.
This sounds very nice. I am not familiar with Vaniglia. May have to give it a try.
It’s a lovely vanilla, not too sweet, very versatile, I got a bottle some months ago.

It was a blind buy mainly because it was a great deal and I’ve loved all the AdP I tried, they are present in all big department stores here in the UK, isn’t it the case where you live?

The mention of Myrrh always reminds me of the verses of We Three Kings. As a steadfast Methodist choir member for the years of my youth I learned many verses of many hymns and we always sang this one around Christmastime. Its strange melody was haunting and I was always both intrigued and repelled by the verse about myrrh–what wonderful rhymes and alliteration it has:
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Have a good day–I need to do some cleaning this morning. It’s cold here (45) but we have sunshine and a bright blue sky! Earlier this morning there was a Rube Goldberg clown chain of disaster here as one cat scared another who scared another and so on…. The first was startled and ran into the second who tipped over a paper dish with dry food and scared the third cat who ran off and knocked over a pottery dish smashing it into three parts, scattering more food all over the kitchen floor, scaring the fourth cat who ran into the dining room and knocked over a big fan that was tucked back under the table; she tipped it over making a huge crash…. and by then everyone in the house including me was in full puffed-out Halloween cat mode. “What’s happening? What’s out there? Are we safe yet?” Well, no fluffy tail of course in my case, but what a mess!

I love the poem, although it is not a flattering portrayal of myrrh for sure. Never thought of it as bitter and cold, but then I never smelled a real myrrh. And according to Wikipedia, “myrrh” actually means “bitter”! 😮 And, of course, there is also that dark story of Myrrha from Greek myths, which kind of makes this poem make sense…

Oh, my!🙀 hope all is settled down by now! I once had a small porcelain statue that I stupidly put in the closet in a plastic grocery bag temporarily til I had time to find its box. One of my cats stuck her head thru the open handles and couldn’t get out of them and then ran thru the house with the bag banging and clanging noisily on her back as the statue inside broke as it hit everything. Luckily all ended well but we were all temporarily terrified as we wondered what the heck was going on!

For me, it has to be La Myrrhe in all it’s splendor. Aldehydes, anise, and Myrrhe combined in a cooling elixir…. I bought this one during the pandemic when pockets were a bit more flush. It is a bit of a hopeful scent to me.
I woke up earlier than I’d like to start working on some estate sale business. I bought my tickets last night for a quick trip to visit my friend in Boston right before the spring semester starts. I’ve never been that far north so I’ve been trying to finish some knitting.

Scent – CP Compliant Elle L’aime Lolita Lempicka. I like it better in our wintery weather than in the heat – it’s coming up cozy. It’s 39 and misting and damp right now, so cozy is a good place to be.
Also sporting Eau du Salonpas, which may be overpowering the Lempicka. It’s at least contributing to the scent bubble.

It’s very muggy here, with passing downpours and I’m wearing Datura Noir which has myrrh in its base, though it’s not at all prominent in such a heady scent. It’s my son’s birthday on New Year’s Day …word of advice: never, ever have unprotected sex in March unless you enjoy shopping for Christmas and New Year, in crowded malls etc. or baking cakes, and hosting children’s parties when you’d rather be sprawled out in the sun with a book. Luckily, he’s in his twenties now so New Years day will be spent with curtains closed watching Fanny and Alexander or the original Napoleon, all five and a half hours of it. Vegan pizza is on the menu …dairy-free cheese and vegetarian salami ( just like mamma used to make!) Have a happy weekend!

Robin, I love your fragrance today. I would love to be able to get that Hermes scent along with Violette Volynka in travel sprays, but they never offer together. I don’t really want to spend that much for full bottles, but would definitely go for the smaller size. I am wondering why they never offer those two together.

Went grocery shopping today and it was quite calm so it turned out to have been a good decision. I was in Boucheron Quatre Iconic, a perfume I took an unaccountable liking to in duty-free last year, and I still like it very much but tonight for the CP I am in Opium secret de parfum, full of myrrh that one, red myrrh according to Fragranica but it sounds like a marketing ploy.
I was surprised not to see all versions of Opium on the list.

Joining everyone today wearing Pacifica Persian Rose for the myrrh cp. A nice citrusy depth to this and it layers nicely over YR’s argan & rose body products for a complete Middle East experience. My sense of smell seems to now be slowly getting better after COVID this month. I can smell more than just a couple days ago. I went with Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka and I can smell it a little at least.

Hello NST! This past month or so has been… something. Car broke down on Thanksgiving on the way to the airport for a Thanksgiving weekend wedding in New Jersey (kids, don’t do that to people you love). Got it repaired for large $ and then a week later one of our neighbors drove into us head-on. Yay. Car is totalled but thankfully we are fine (so glad we were in our big SUV not the little Mini). And now we’ve been exposed to COVID so we have had to cancel all our holiday plans this week while we wait to see if we’ve got the plague (so far, no). I’m all ready to be done with 2023.

I sampled Myrrha by Fiele Fragrances this week and really enjoyed it. Warm and resinous without veering into powdery.

Sometimes at the end of the year as I reflect I feel annoyed and/or jaded w/ the world/state of perfume…lamenting that prices are too high/crazy, too many releases, disappointment w/ pricey niche ones, etc. But this year for reasons unknown, I am totally in love with fragrance for some reason even though I do think there are too many releases in general, a lot are overpriced and I have had my shares of misses this year. It’s like I have broken through to a new level of perfume love or something ehaeheh like I have hit a new high….not sure why but just when I thought I couldn’t love fragrance any more than I already do…BAM…I unlocked a new level…like a video game or something. 😍

In Paestum Rose, the thing I cold most easily find with a confirmed myrrh note. Alas, can’t pick out the myrrh.

For the CP, Avon Mesmerize in the original cobalt glass bottle. The metal fillagree and the cap are both very nice in person. I get a lot of orange and a Samsara-like opening. Then the myrrh and a general resinous smell arrive, with good lasting power and a small but distinctive scent bubble. I have not smelled the current version, but I think it’s been re-released by Avon at least once. I tried the current version of the lotion, and it was not the same. I found it a rather masculine, generic citrus-tonka accord that was ho-hum.
Oh YES MossyBerry you smell great, & I also love that vintage Avon Mesmerize in that cobalt bottle. For a hoot, I once brought a mini to a small sniffa I did with friends and had them try it and guess what it was and they loved it and were all very surprised to learn it was Avon. I’m about to go for a run and then after shower it will be Messe de Minuit from a decant made by a friend so I shall be CP compliant eventually. I’m also following this thread closely since I love myrrh and I didn’t know either that the Opiums deployed this note. I will have to sniff with that in mind next time. A Happy New Year to all!

Omg!! I had original Mesmerize back when it was first released! The bf at the time had a mom who sold Avon and I bought every single new release from her. You get the Joy Box, which actually comes in two boxes. The scent of the day is listed for every other day in January. There’s a Facebook forum that discusses the scents and while I joined, I am not quite sure if I joined the correct one. It looks fun! I know cazaubon had done this previously, if I am not mistaken.
I peeked and out of the 16 perfumes, I have 2 for sure, the 3rd one I have to check which perfume formulation I got and the 4th one I just have to check if I have it. I don’t count samples. Not bad for something random!

I went with my richest myrrh perfume for today, which is Annick Goutal Myrrhe Ardente. This smells downright savory after yesterday’s Mimosa Myrrh that paired citrus and floral with myrrh.
Ah, another one I completely forgot about!
I got some great deals on a few perfumes based on recommendations from Notes from Josephine (youtube channel) as well as a few which have been on my list. The one I was late to the party on is JPG La Belle. I didnt think it was my thing but I really like it and it will perform better in warm weather. The one I have been wearing every day is This Is Her by Zadig & Voltaire, a nutty delicious gourmand. The 2 others are spring florals but they are very wearable and more fresh. Tous Gold and Perles De Lalique. Because they are in that old school, “nobody is paying attention to them” category in the fragrance world, they were each about $20 for a 3.3 ounce bottle.
Can’t beat that price!
