Hermes Eau de Basilic Pourpre ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2022 11 Comments

Hermès will launch Eau de Basilic Pourpre, a new addition to the brand's unisex Cologne collection, next month. The last in the series was 2018's Eau de Citron Noir.

Eau de Basilic Pourpre was developed by perfumer Christine Nagel, and was inspired by a basil display at a farmer's market. In addition to the basil, the notes include bergamot, geranium, and a patchouli and spice base.

Hermès Eau de Basilic Pourpre will be available in 100 and 200 ml Eau de Toilette (and possibly other sizes as well).

Update: the description from Hermès, where there is also a 50 ml size, plus a travel size available in the 4 x 15 ml "compose your own set" coffrets (currently $124).

Hermes Colognes welcomes a new light and airy, plant-driven creation. Conceived by Hermes perfumer Christine Nagel, Eau de basilic pourpre is a tribute to purple basil, a sun-drenched aromatic that calls to mind conviviality and summer holidays with the family.

Eau de basilic pourpre expresses the deep and generous aromatic freshness of purple basil, enlivened with light, crystalline green bergamot and geranium to lend character.

I didn’t love Citron Noir but am still very anxious to try this. Narcisse Bleue is still my favorite though.

I didn’t like it at all. A good basil though…this is worth a shot!

    Oh just take my money.

I was sorely disappointed at the last splitmeet to find NO SPLITS of the gorgeous-sounding l’Artisan Parfumeur le Potager series, but fingers crossed that someone will split this one next time around!

And I’m sure this will eventually be in the 15 ml discovery format.

I’d pay darn good money for a basil fragrance that actually smells like basil, and isn’t just another take on a fougère. Looking forward to giving this one a sniff, pessimism notwithstanding.

I’m definitely curious about this. AA Mandarine Basilic has been on my mind recently and I’ve long been a fan of JM Lime Basil Mandarin.

    Did you say geranium?

Was wondering if a new cologne might be coming. This has me quite curious. I think green is making a resurgence with some recent releases like Synthetic Jungle. (If so, why would CHANEL discontinue Eau de Cristalle?) Anyhow, looking forward to sampling this. I really like the basil in Eau de l’orange verte so hopefully it’s amped it up here in combination with the other notes. I have been on the verge of buying Sisley Eau de Campagne but will hold off until I smell this one. It’ll be a showdown between JCE/1996 and CN/2022! This also looks a bit like Goutal Mandragore Poupre 🤔
