Weekend's over! And a quick reminder that our next splitmeet is coming up on Saturday. Meanwhile, it's National Barbecue Day and the International Day of Living Together in Peace. Birthdays: Studs Terkel, Woody Herman, Liberace, Betty Carter and Christian Lacroix. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme. Lacroix, sweetie!
Reminder: on 5/20, for World Bee Day, wear a fragrance with a honey note or wear a fragrance inspired by wildflowers, or celebrate World Bee Day in some other way. (We did a honey project in 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Oops, meant to include this in the post! Betty Carter & Ray Charles doing Cole Porter’s Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsC9d55-s0A
I have that album! It’s first-rate, isn’t it?
Yes, fantastic. I do like both Ray Charles and Betty Carter in general. CD is still in my basement 🙂
😁 I think I may have re-purchased it. I don’t even know if we have our CD’s anymore.
I still have and listen to my CDs, but I’m curious about how many people have kept their physical media. I find it annoying to pay a monthly fee for music that I’ve already paid for. On the other hand, I have a boatload of CDs, and the clutter is annoying. So what to do? Maybe I’m just destined to feel annoyed about it, one way or another. 🤣
Replying to Nancyleandros – I got The Brennan and downloaded all of my CDs to it. The CD now live in plastic bins in the basement. You can control it through your phone, and I play it through a portable Sonos speaker. I still have Amazon Music so that I can listen to albums before I buy them, so it hasn’t eliminated that expense for me, but I LOVE having all of my albums ready to be played (many of which are not on Amazon music) without all of the clutter.
Nancyleandros, I know, right? I will forever be a little grumpy about all the things that the digital age has made obsolete. But, whatcha gonna do?
My husband transferred all our CD’s onto Apple music (not sure how).
I still have most of my CD’s and can play them on my laptop. Sadly, my boom box doesn’t work for them anyone. Pretty sure that one of my cats broke it when she sat on top of it!
I transferred much of my CD collection into itunes years ago, but never had the patience to do all of it, so they’re sitting in the basement. Every so often I think of a song I want and go dig it out and then I go dig up the external cd drive and then I transfer that song to itunes.
It is probably stupid to keep them, but I am mindful of how much I still regret getting rid of all my vinyl.
Keep your CDs! I still purchase them because I like the cover art and liner notes… I identify my music visually. Most of my CDs are on iTunes. I am so glad I hung onto my vinyl and cassettes. I could not afford to replace them even if I purchased second hand. What I paid $7 or $8 for new in the 70s and 80s, I’ve seen going for outrageous prices, both new and used.
Today I believe I am going to be wearing Fleur de Peau, unless I change my mind at the verrrrry last second and reach for Fleur de Chocolat.
I don’t know about the rest of y’all in the lower 48, but where I am it went from wind, cold, rain, basically late winter, right into summer time temps. It got So. Hot. out. I went from my flannel pj’s to cranking that central air on and up in the space of one day. It’s nuts. Where the heck was spring?!? And I keep forgetting that warmer weather makes perfume a little more potent as well.
Watched ‘Father of the Bride’ last night, another Liz Taylor vehicle. Really cute and charming; the Steve Martin remake stayed pretty true to the original.
Happy Monday! 🙂
Love Father of the Bride! Spencer Tracy is so perfect in that role. And I totally understand about the weather. It’s not as hot today, thank goodness.
The PBS station it aired on had a little commentary about how Jack Benny was brought in for a screen test for the father role; when Spence heard about it, he refused the role, and Vincente Minnelli threw a dinner party with Katherine Hepburn in attendance for the sole purpose of cajoling Spencer back in. Lucky for us classic film buffs, he accepted.
I can’t imagine Jack Benny in that role!
Right?!? Apparently he was gonna get turned down anyway because he couldn’t handle the dramatic parts of the role.
Almost the same here, weather-wise. Last Monday, it was around 50F. This Saturday, forecast is for 94! In May! 😲
I watched a clip from that movie; definitely must put it on my watch list. Thanks, GG!
😀
We also went from winter to summer, but we are in Spring today and for the foreseeable future. Mid 50s to low 60s. I’m just happy for sun.
I love the cast in original Father of the Bride, but it’s been years since I watched it. I remember seeing the Martin remake and, instead of laughing, I was just irritated by the bride and mother’s selfishness through most of the movie.
That’s an interesting take on the remake. i haven’t seen it in a handful of years so the next time I catch it I’ll have to watch it with that angle in mind. 🙂
Hmm, the remake was one of my favorite movies when I was in middle/high school, but I haven’t seen it in forever. I didn’t have this reaction at all, but I was at the height of selfish teen years, so maybe it just didn’t register. 🙂
I’ll have to watch both FOTB movies. I’ve never seen the newer one, and the other only once. What I mostly remember was how beautiful Elizabeth Taylor is, and the father’s hilarious dream sequence!!
Here in BC it still feels like early spring, with cool temps and rain. I’ll be wearing Orris Tattoo.
We are expecting major storms, with potential hail and tornadoes…fingers crossed that we just get some cool temps & rain!
And fingers crossed that you get your sunny day on Thursday.
Crossing fingers for just cool temps & rain. 🙂
It worked, that’s all we got!
You smell great! And the weather folks promise that we should be back to seasonal temps by the weekend.
Wishing you good luck on Thursday!
It’s already sunnier and warmer here thankfully!
Well, Robin, your “Lacroix, sweetie” comment almost caused a ‘coffee over the keyboard’ moment! I’m still chuckling, so thank you!
I think of it now whenever I hear the name. I wonder if he will be remembered for his fashions or for AbFab 😉
If it weren’t for AbFab I would still be saying La Croy!🤣
Ha, me too I am sure!
Lol!Isn’t that a soda in the US?🤣🤣
That made me chuckle too, thank you!
Perhaps here in the UK, especially to people of a certain vintage (!), he will be remembered more for AbFab!
Good morning.
Sotd is Libre Intense.
Finally sunny after a week long of rain! ☀️
Currently drinking lavender Earl Grey.
Yay, enjoy your sunny day! I may join you in the lavender earl grey soon…
its warm and sunny here too..but then the thunderstorms are coming
That tea sounds devine!
Today I’m in the original 2001 Michael Kors men’s scent, Michael for Men, not to be confused with the 2014 Michael Kors for Men (and it *is* confusing, because the bottles are essentially identical). It’s the first patchouli-heavy scent I ever loved, probably because there are so many other things going on at the same time — star anise, leather, tobacco, dried fruit, woods…. It’s heady is what it is, and complicated and wonderful.
Oh, does that sound delicious!
Good morning ya’ll!
The crown I got on my tooth maybe 2 months ago is really bothering me and I am fearful and I don’t want to go back to the dentist. So I need to walk in Central Park to clear my anxiety. I will call the dentist this morning. Breath in breath out
I love bees! So happy for this week even though I have one perfume with honey. Thanks to a generous NSTer I have honey on my face from the Guerlain line. So there is a start.
Hope to attract some bees in Le Chevrefeuille
Hope your tooth doesn’t require more major renovations!
I am nervous that it needs that..
Good grief
I am staying hopeful for you, LovesTo. Enjoy that walk.
Thanks! I don’t know why I have so much anxiety around the dentist. I have had such bad luck with my teeth.
Very good luck with that tooth!
And for sure Le Chevrefeuille will bring the bees. You smell great.
Oh i hope it. will calm down, i hate getting my. teeth done
Urgh….tooth problems are the worst!Dental visits are my own personal nemesis, and I have to get a cleaning done asap.
Hope yours is sorted asap!
🌹
Next Monday! I made the appointment
Deep breaths.
Good job making that phone call! Sometimes the call is the hardest thing. I hope it turns out to be minor. 😊
Yay you for making the phone call!
Today I’m in Pd’E Mal Aimé. Brand-spankin-new bottle, and do I feel special! 😄 I love the vegetal weirdness of this one – it really does smell like being in a clearing of scrubby wildflowers and weeds baking in the sun.
Oh, lucky you! Enjoy that bottle.
Sounds like a fun scent 🙂 congrats on the new bottle!
Thanks!
Project compliant in Rozy edp. Spritzed then packed.
Ok, I missed it. I know you got the house but what is your move date?
We close Friday, take possession on the 24th (the sellers aren’t closing on their new house until Mon or Tues so we let them have the weekend) and actually move in on June 7th
Wow, that seems so fast! How lovely, you must be excited.
Best of luck with your upcoming move!
I’m testing Rebecca Minkoff EDP this morning and finding much to like. One reviewer commented that it’s a “dead ringer” for Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, and I can’t quite agree, although there are similarities. The TF is sweeter and more … fruity, maybe, the way pipe tobacco can be fruity. The RM is drier and gentler.
I agree with you. I wouldn’t have even noticed similarities.
No honey for me today as I am wearing Byredo Pulp.
I noticed someone mentioned the original Miss Dior Cheri and was going to tell them that Montale Rose Elixir smells almost just like this without the popcorn.
Also, wondering if anyone has read The Lincoln Highway by Towles.
That’s it. Carry on.
I know there was discussion of it in the recent reading polls, because I was going to skip it since I didn’t love his first, but now it’s on my list. Should get from library in a couple weeks, I think I am next on the holds.
You can find last poll:
https://nstperfume.com/tag/literature/
Thanks Robin. I read that before, but one person mentioned the book and didn’t say anything about it so just curious what others thought. I don’t really love his other books either but have The Lincoln Highway and wondered if it was worth reading.
Ok, maybe it was the poll before that then? Actually that makes more sense because it’s been on hold forever and I’m just now about to get it. Anyway, someone said it was great!
(But I made it 2/3 of the way through Gentleman in Moscow, and only went that long because everyone said it was great, and I did not care what happened next so I gave up.)
LOL. I didn’t like that one either, but forced my way through it. I will try this one too.
Sunny day out there and 61 degrees right now. Gorgeous. Think I’ll be wearing Jour Ensolleille to celebrate.
I need the positive vibes because as I examined our tax return, I found an error. Talked to the accountant today. Don’t owe, but the refunds are halved. Oh well. 🙁
Sorry to hear about your tax return issue! But I’m glad you discovered it in time to be corrected.
Oh boo.
Bummer.
It’s been quite a day so far! First day of state tests for students, and now an early dismissal in anticipation of some terrible storms. I am relieved about the dismissal; I was not excited to drive home during a hailstorm or tornado. I am hoping they turn out to be not as terrible as predicted.
Our temps also went right to summer, so I started the day in CKOne and just spritzed Clinique Blue Sky Neroli as a lunchtime pick-me-up.
Hope the storms aren’t as bad as predicted. You smell great!
I’m in SSS Equestrian today for its cheerfulness.
Nothing but rain here. Standing water in even the tiniest depression in the ground. Mosquitoes will be the scourge of the state soon.
My roof developed a leak around the vent fan yesterday, so currently I’m looking very bedraggled and the epitome of a homeless, down on her luck gal with a bright blue tarp draped over my roof. Never underestimate the power of a waterproof tarp. That thing has saved my 🍑 on a couple of occasions. Currently residing at a fishing launch on the Cowlitz River because it’s free. The river is high and fast!
I have a reservation up the road at a state park starting tonight through Friday. Hoping the rain will stop long enough so I can get my leak squared away, which will be complicated because I have to scrape off all the old tape and sealer first. Thankfully, I have been traveling with the supplies I’ll need for the job, including expanding ladder and sealant, but can’t do anything in the rain!
Well, this is a Monday situation, for sure. Hence the need for a cheerful perfume!
Hope everyone’s Monday is less complicated than mine. ✌🏼
I hope the weather holds off long enough for you to fix the leak, Deva.
Love SSS, really miss being able to ship that line to Canada.
Good luck, Deva!
I hope you get the leak fixed asap!
And what an adventurer you are,I love the insta updates always.
XO’s
I hope you can repair it soon!
Good luck with the repair, Deva.
We’re having sunny breaks just up the coast — hoping some come your way!
Good luck with that repair!
I’ll try and send you some of our dry and sunny weather, we need rain here, badly.
Hope that you can stay dry-ish until repairs are done!
I probably would have cried like a girl, just sayin’. Good luck with the repairs.
I used a rosemary and geranium shower oil this morning, courtesy of a fab perfumista well known in these parts. I matched it with La Parfumerie Moderne Annees Folles + Mandarine Basilic.
My shower smells wonderful and so do I.
Happy Monday everyone! 😊
Responded to your Q above about dealing with CD storage, but had to do it under AnnE’s comment because we were out of Replys; just FYI since you won’t get the email notification.
I’m in Azemour today. Bees like orange flowers, right? 🙂
The bee theme is appropriate, as my first email of the day at work was about a building adjacent to our HQ putting in a bee hive. Should be nice for our roof garden, too!
With Cazaubon today, cool temps and clouds. Fortunately we’re getting some brief sun breaks, though.
Sun has burst through here! Hope you are having a good day.
Urban beekeeping is so cool!
Wearing the original Badgley Mischka today, a rich fruity-leathery osmanthus that smells almost like a cocktail of some kind.
Oh I love that one. I swapped mine many years ago and regretted it later.
I went for something simple and comfy BBW Cacao Rose body lotion and essential oil mist. Mostly a powdery scent with a light hint of cocoa.
It is a very stressful day. I think I am losing the battle trying to help my doggie Yei from overcoming another severe pancreatitis crisis. This has become cronic and everytime is more difficult for him to recover. At the same time at work I am not able to meet a deadline for today and I am awfully behind. I don’t even think I can finish this week. That has everybody on my team very upset, anxious and frustrated. But my mind and body cannot handle it this time for some reason. I just can not!
Hope tomorrow is a better day!
Happy Monday!
Your scent does sound comforting; wishing you the best with Lei and your work.
Sending you and your sweet Yei comforting thoughts.
Sending good vibes to both you and Yei.
Sending positive energy and hugs for your predicaments.
You have a lot on your plate. I hope your week improves.
That’s a lot of stress to bear PL67. Wishing you and Yei comfort as you two navigate his health.
Thinking of you and Yei – you two have been through a lot together. <3
Pancreatitis gets harder. I won’t play vet, but I can email later. My girl hasn’t had a bout in a long time (knock wood) but I’m lucky to stay with her 24/7. People must have thought I was terrible when I would dive into her steel gripped jaw, trying to remove a French fry.
I’m terribly sorry about work. Some people don’t understand until they have to.
Could you ever take some vacation time after this week? I know it wouldn’t be fun vacation, but you would be able to catch your breath and tend to yourself a bit, too.
❤❤❤ Virtual hugs don’t feel like enough.
Sending you and Yei lots of positive vibes.
Sending more positives vibes for you and Yei.
Sending hugs and strength to both you and Yei.
So sorry about the combo of bad things. Sending love to you both.
So sorry to hear that you are having a very rough Monday. I know what it is like to have a sick pet that is getting worse, despite your very best efforts and the hard work of a trusted vet. It takes a lot out of a person.
Hugs to you and Yei.
So sorry to hear about your woes. Wishing you both the best. A day off may help as someone above said.
Oh dear, I’m so sorry 🙁
You smell great! I bought that body mist too and quite like it.
Sending you big hugs and strength, PL67…that is a lot to deal with.
Happy Monday!
Agent Provocateur is my SOTD!Spicy rose, and a firm favorite in the category.
I received my hardcover copy of Neil Chapman’s book “Perfume” today!Cannot wait to dive in tonight, and what a pretty book!Replacing my tattered copy of “The Guide” as decor on my nightstand as well….haha!
Have a good one guys!
XO’s
Would you believe Agent Provocateur has been on the market for 22 years??Don’t why but this info stunned me just now…haha!
I just missed out on a fantastic bargain! I love this one.
You smell perfect!
You smell fantastic, J!
I took a small decant of Untitled L ´Eau to work, so this was my scent for today. I liked it enough to buy a FB, its great for spring and summer, so green, fresh and smoky. Spent the weekend sewing, so i made another bike leggings from another pattern, this time all in a grey leo print to match my grey hair. I think my coworkers think i am a bit crazy, but i like to have fun things for workout.
Sounds like you are having more fun than your coworkers 🙂
It’s still cool and cloudy so I will be applying lots of Azuree. Planning on working outside in the yard, planting peas and lettuce.
I also have 3 types of zinnia seeds to plant. I noticed that the bees love them so I now get them every year. Hummingbirds and butterflies are also attracted to them. Everyone is welcome!
Zinnias make nice bouquets for inside the house, too. They are so bright and pretty.
And cat safe!
Oh, very good to know this!
There are so many lovely colors; fushia, salmon pinks and yellows. I will have to try them inside too! Thanks for the tip!
You smell wonderful, and thank you for reminding me to get my hummingbird feeder out!
Thanks, Vee! It was great. I even sprayed inside my hoody for a walk.
Thanks, MossyBerry. Sorry for my previous reply! I need to get my hummingbird feeder out too. Hopefully I will see a few more this year!
I am sampling Widian Black I. I seem to remember this being very trendy a while back. I am not impressed, it’s a very softly spiced thing, with no projection and longevity seems short. Money saved!
Yay for money saved!
Heure Exquise edt today and Visa edp this evening.
Wonderful green perfume to start your day off!
Thank you Jalapeno, I so enjoyed it, yes green but warm somehow.
It’s a stellar, perfect May day, so welcome after all the rain, then heat! The fragrance of my neighbor’s lilac bush is wafting through my porch windows.
Wearing Aura today and I’m loving it.
Forgot to add, you smell wonderful today Robin!
Why thank you! And the mixture of Aura + lilac must be great.
I have some cut lilacs in my house and they are smelling good.
Winter is definitely getting closer, time to bring out my one perfume that I really think of as a winter perfume – Chambre Noir from Olfactive Studio.
Chambre Noire is lovely!
We were lucky here and had very clear skies last night to view the lunar eclipse. I went out to look at it several times. It was interesting and fun to see though it never turned into the promised blood-red, more like an odd pink color. And my cellphone pictures were pretty poor.
I’m filling the honey bill today with Zoologist Moth. I bought this pretty soon after testing it and I think many people might wonder why. It’s quite a weird fragrance, and seems even more weird and complex the more you wear it. It is a very honey-smokey-oudy scent but kicks off with quite strong spices–nutmeg, clove, saffron, pepper, cinnamon. It’s got a lot going on and evolves a lot too. The honey is dominant or at least very present throughout and also a lot of florals. It skitters about and then rests in some dark shady enclave. I am glad to have an excuse to get this one out and give it another airing.
That sounds weird but fun! I need to try it.
I’m in Isabey Lys Noir today. I see some people describe it as TF Black Orchid-lite, and I can see that. To me it smells like fresh flowers dipped in castor sugar. It’s nice to be able to smell again after 10 days of a cold and congestion!
Tea today is a sample of Clipper Ship Ceylon Blackwood. Much less malty than I usually go for on a Monday, but an excellent afternoon tea. The sun is shining now, but there was a torrential downpour only an hour ago. Luckily the threatened tornados didn’t materialize anywhere near my office.
Huzzah for being able to smell again!
10 days is a long time…welcome back to the land of smells!
Happy Monday, all. I was sorry our area did not see the eclipse because of a passing rain; I had dozed off, but Mr. Mossy was checking. SotD Allure, which I selected because I went to a luncheon and I thought it would smell pretty but not offend. I hope I was right 🙂 Looking forward to learning some new honey scents this week!
I went outside briefly before bed last night to see if I got lucky with the eclipse. Nope. Broken clouds obscured enough of the moon that all I saw was an oddly shaped glow in the sky.
I’m in Amoureuse by DelRae. Such a shame this line is no longer making any perfume.
Funnily enough I’ve always remembered it as “It’s Lacroix, darling” but it is indeed “Sweetie”. Loved AbFab, they made misbehaving ladies look cool.
Oh, she said it more than once!
Is there ever too much perfume?
I’m wearing Silver Iris. For a long time, SOTD!
I am going to thin the market, eventually, like so many. Too many blind buys gone wrong.
Anyone else have trouble getting rid of perfumes they once loved?
Raising my hand. I may have a willing recipient – the washroom attendant!
That’s nice!😊
I got rid of a bunch years ago I really regret. I really had loved.
Ones I haven’t loved or have multiples of, I might just be able to.
As I bought another unicorn today 🤣😂🤣
Is it the Silver Iris or was that last week’s unicorn?
I have a very hard time getting rid of bottles. I usually will though if 1. I know someone that will love it more. 2. Bad association. I have a few bottles in limbo right now.
Yes to all of your points.
Somehow, I have can bad associations, but I still kept them.
If someone loves it more than me, perfect. Especially nice if they can’t afford it or its been discontinued.
Some of my bottles were never loves, but strong likes that eventually withered. I’ve rehomed 2 of them so far. But have several more to go!
What an absolutely beautiful picture, Robin.
I’m in Venenum today because I needed a hug. Have I mentioned my husband caught COVID on his way to his father’s memorial? Now he’s quarantining in MA before flying back to CA, and I’m in CA alone. Sigh.
Oh no! Here’s a virtual hug, Koyel.
Thank you, Jalapeno <3
Oh no, but of course, you can GO WILD with your perfumes!
Hehe, you bet 🙂 I put on THREE SPRAYS of Ambre Narguile over the weekend.
And sorry for your loss.
Thank you <3
I’m sorry Koyel. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Thank you, lillyjo <3
Oh no! Hope he is better soon.
Thanks, Robin. It sounds like it hasn’t been too bad, really. Kind of like a mild flu.
Also sorry to hear this and hope he recovers quickly…very sorry for your loss as well.
Thank you, She-Ra <3
I picked up a paintbrush for the first time in several years this afternoon. It felt good!
Right now I am in the process of discovering how many of my little pots of acrylic paint have either dried out, or separated to the point that the paint is unusable. I know I have a few colors that I need to replace already.
So humid today. Yuck! It feels like you could wring out the atmosphere like a soaked washcloth. Not a fan of this precursor to summer.
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau EdT. Perfect, even if the weather isn’t.
Thanks for the reminder; I had planned to dig out my own paints today. Better put them out before I forget!
You’re welcome! 🎨
You smell fabulous! Hurrah on getting your paints out!
Thank you!
That’s exciting starting up again.
Good for you. You smell great!
Yeah, it’s been a long time coming. Thanks!
That’s great! Do you ever post your work?
Weather was so hot, then the cool instantly. Now the thunderstorms.
I’ll just complain year round.😊
No, I’ve never posted my work. Part of it is that I am my own worst critic. When I am really pleased with what I’ve done, my reaction is usually along the lines of “Hey, that doesn’t suck!”
My daughter seems to have a cold. Kept her home today.
I am wearing Dior Addict and gosh I smell awesome. I heard it was being discontinued and will probably break down and get a bottle.
Aw, that’s too bad about your daughter. Hope she is feeling better soon, and that you and your son don’t catch whatever it is.
Sorry about your daughter!
Addict is being discontinued?
Oh oh …
You smell terrific. I hope your daughter gets well soon.
If you decide to get Addict, please report back on what you think of it.
Seconding this!
..off to check my Addict level!
SOTD = L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse
Points! And did I hear it’s National Immortelle Day as well? If it is, double points!
$5.19 cash for each gallon. I still had 1/3 gas left in my tank and a fill up cost me $45! I have never!
Yow on those gas prices! Sad to say, it wasn’t that long ago I saw regular for $3.97 a gallon. It was on one of Spooky’s trips to the vet.
I am at $4.49 for regular unleaded. $3.69 for a gallon of milk. I am just beside myself.
Here on the west coast of Canada gas is $2.29 a litre today — so multiply times 4 to get a gallon. US $7.14 a gallon, after conversion.
