It's Tuesday. A quick reminder that the swapmeet will start this coming Saturday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Myrrhe Églantine for the Elvis Costello version of A Good Year for the Roses.* It was included on his country-covers album Almost Blue in 1981. It has never been my favorite Elvis album but I've always loved this song. My tea at the moment is Upton's Tippy Colombian organic, with a bit of cardamom.
Reminder: 9/17 is International Country Music Day. Name a favorite country music song and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
*Elvis Costello in the (slightly odd) video for A Good Year for the Roses. (Sorry, again you'll probably have to sit through an ad. You can read more about the song and video here, and you can listen to the original George Jones version here.)

I’m in a combination of Scorza di Sicilia and Selva do Brazil, because I’m working on finishing up a discovery set from Berdoues that I’ve had for years. I’ve used up most of the Scorza di Sicilia, and the last little bit wouldn’t spray, so I finished with Selva do Brazil.
If it lasted you that long, I take it there were no winners?
I have that discovery set too, and mine is also untouched. ?
Would love to try Rose Eglantine. I am sure You smell great, Robin!!
I do smell quite nice, but it is not my favorite from this series
Honestly I tried just a handful of Hermessences and still am not sure which one is my favorite either…
I’m in Vanille 44. I am starting to reach for my “fall” scents despite the fact that we are still having the most wonderful summer like weather.
Baking a banana cake this morning. This afternoon I’ll put the chocolate frosting on. It’s madtownteen’s birthday and that is always her standard request. She likes to set herself apart from her older siblings who always request chocolate on chocolate. Sixteen candles, hard to believe. For dinner we are heading to Raising Cane’s for chicken fingers. Also her request. We have a new one in town and my girls and I went once over the summer. I must say, they are delicious.
Thanks again for all the kind wishes yesterday my friends.☺️ Time got away from me and I didn’t have a chance to get back to everyone.
Happy Birthday madtownteen!
Sounds like a great day!
Thanks lillyjo! I hope so!?
Happy Birthday, madtownteen!
Thanks!
Glad that your day is better
Me too! Thanks!
Sounds like a great celebration! Do you have a link to the cake recipe? I’ve made a couple of chocolate + banana cakes, and am up for trying others ?
Thanks kpaint! I don’t have a link for the cake because it is my mom’s recipe.? Happy to share though! I’ll try and post tomorrow if you’re interested.
I am, but sounds like a lot of work on your end to post it ?
I was going to ask the same thing — sounds yummy.
Happy birthday to madtownteen! I have not been to Raising Cane’s and see one is not too far and will add it to the list.
Thanks She-ra! Yes, do try, their chicken fingers really are delectable.
Happy Birthday to madtownteen! ?
Thanks pl67!
Happy birthday to your daughter! My son requested a banana cake last year and it turned out *insanely* good — I used the recipe from the Joy of Cooking.
Thanks! Banana cake is delicious, the bananas keep it so moist.?
Happy birthday, Madtown Teen! I need to make banana bread myself today. Raising Cane’s is great. Their chicken fingers are always seriously fresh tasting.
Thanks! I had never heard of Raising Canes til one opened here, I would agree they were really fresh.
Many happy returns to MTT.
Thanks Aurora!
Happy, happy birthday!! ??
Thanks majokkobiachan!
Hope that your appointment yesterday was much easier than you anticipated!
And Happy Sweet 16 to Madtownteen! ?
Thanks Jalapeño!?
Happy sweet 16 to madtownteen! That’s such a special birthday. My dad was a big fan of Raising Cane’s, but I never made it there with him. I hope y’all have fun tonight!
Thanks Nancyleandros!?
Happy Sweet 16, MTT!
Thanks AnniePerfumes!?
Good morning. On this gray and rainy day, I am wearing L’Artisan Bucoliques de Provence and drinking a cup of black tea.
That sounds perfect.
I’m going on my Frederic Malle journey so today I’m wearing Superstitious ♥️
You smell fantastic!
Thank you
It really is a gorgeous scent
It’s going to be one of those hard-to-slog-through days. I’ve got a ton of things to do, and very little motivation to do any of them.
There’s a cup of Vietnamese coffee on the desk, a back-up pot of Yerba Mate brewing for as soon as I get done with the coffee, and I’m about to head to the perfume cabinet for some serious, hajusuuri-style spritzing for extra fortitude. I might have to go for something bright and uplifting, to combat this mental sluggishness. Maybe Ciel d’Opale, or twice-hourly sprays of an Hermessence, or something like that.
If anybody’s got any extra energy out there, send me a couple of joules via the ether.
I slept horrible so no extra energy
Sending you some extra energy for the slog, I hope it’s all easier than it feels.
Hope the caffeine and perfume kick in soon.
The caffeine will help, sending you ⚡ from the UK.
Have enough energy to keep my eyes open. You are welcome to it. ?
Wish I could give a jumpstart, but my battery isn’t so hot today either. ??
I hope the coffee, mate and perfume combo worked for you!
Wearing Apres l’Onde, for probably the last time in 2021. I tend to put this away in the early fall and bring it out again in April. So pretty, wish it lingered a little longer. I wonder if the vintage formulas did? i have never had a chance to smell any of this that could be considered vintage – maybe it doesn’t age well?
Isn’t Tuesday usually Teapot day? That is sort of a sad little image…
We have been watching reruns of Criminal Minds, because Mandy Patinkin, and Shemar Moore, but that is one bleak show. Last night we watched what I think is one of the best episodes of the whole series, the one where Keith Carradine does a scary job of being really psychopathic, and today I feel twisted enough by it all, I guess I will stop watching this for while. Ugh. Maybe rewatch Ted Lasso again – there are supposed to be new episodes of this coming out soon, I think. Ted Lasso is the opposite of Criminal Minds…. And the documentary about the civilian crew of the next SpaceX flight – that has a new episode out. Even tho it is one big advertisement, who am I to begrudge those people all that fun?
Did you happen to catch The Right Stuff on Disney +? It’s about the same topic as the book (which I never read) and I thought it was exceptionally well-made and worth the price of admission. We initially subscribed to Disney + to watch Hamilton last 4th of July but kept it as there are a lot of gems (plus Haley Mills and some vintage animation helped to get through a disquieting year+.)
As to Apres l’Ondee, I have been combing Ebay for bottles – new or vintage – for years and they rarely come up. I have to assume that unlike No 5 or Shalimar, there just aren’t a lot of bottles out there that people want to part with (and vintage got used instead of sitting on a dressing table for decades. )
Yes, Apres l’Ondee is a “spritz some on and go out for a walk or a cup of tea or whatnot” sort of scent, but Shalimar and No. 5 generally need “planning” and “dressing” to feel really appropriate. I am probably on bottle #5 or 6 of Apres l’Ondee as opposed to being on Number 2 of Shalimar and Number 3 of No. 5…
Commando, unless you count Lemon Pledge. Doing a lot of cleaning and laundry today. It means skipping my workout, but at this point, the state of my space is worse than the state of my body. Or even my soul.
Will put on something nice later. Have a great day, everyone!
Have a lovely day! I need to deep clean this weekend, our place gets dusty so quickly!
Construction at the school across the way isn’t helping..
Good luck with the big clean NovemberRose!
I’ve scheduled cleaning for this week too ? let’s see if I’ll be as diligent as you.
Sotd is Angel. Matching it with a little Juice Newton
https://youtu.be/HTzGMEfbnAw
I am waiting on the stove guy to replace a part today. Hope he shows up soon because I have to be to work in an hour.
Good luck!
You smell delicious, hope the guy (or gal) turns up on time.
You smell great today! Hope that the stove guy showed up when he said he would…
Thanks for the link — nice to hear the song again. And yes, I had to to sing along to the “Bay-yay-yay-bee” toward the end.
Excellent match! I remember as a teen just really thinking my life would be perfect if I only had her hair. ?
I hope your stove is in working order now.
Did the guy make it before you had to leave for work?
Tea is cappuccino x2, each with a double shot of espresso. Didn’t sleep good last night
SOTD Box of Eels
To match for the CP:
Not really a country “singer(s)” per se but I love this song
https://youtu.be/RX4-U2r4lS0
Nice! And they sound quite convincing.
I think so! Plus I <3 Jeff Bridges as an actor
“The Dude” Love Jeff Bridges!
And Colin *sigh*..
I actually love the whole soundtrack..I will do another song by them tomorrow
Kind of a low energy start to the day here, too.
Guerlain Encense Mythique for what I am choosing to start fall with.
You smell so good! I think I will wear that one tomorrow…
Wishing you more energy to come.
There are a lot of folks who toe dragged their way through the day. Hope we all have more energy tomorrow!
Kind of a low energy start to the day here, too.
Guerlain Encense Mythique for what I am choosing to start fall with.
Wow, seems like that is going around? Lots of tired today.
I’m in Infusion d’Iris Absolue, and yesterday I wore Nicolai Musc Intense. I just realized I’m probably reaching for powdery scents to convince myself that I don’t need the new Nicolai, Poudre de Musc, but powder and aldehydes at a good price are hard for me to resist!
Just got word that both of my sisters and my niece are coming to visit this weekend, so it is a joyous day.
Ooh powder and aldehydes are like my dream team! I will have to seek some of this out.
Enjoy your visit! I’ll be seeing my sister and her children in a couple of weeks. It’s been since December 2019 since we’ve seen one another and in the meantime, my niece and nephew have pretty much grown into adults ?
Dew on my windshield this morning. Fall is starting!!!!
But I’m wearing something summery, Neroli Portfino.
Not sure about the CP this week – I’m not really a country music person. Half points for an American brand, maybe?
I always say “I am not a country music fan” but then I have a few songs I really enjoy.
Same here.
Morning all – my SOTD is Angel, layered over the body oil. No CP points, but one of my favorite songs as a teen, Angel by Real Life.
Real Life – https://youtu.be/0R6WIbx8ysE
Angel, by Annie Lenox – https://youtu.be/xp3QYkuqON8
I love Annie Lenox!! ..you just turned my morning around, now going to play her this morning while I do the dishes..
Glad I could add some fun to your day!
I love her voice, it’s so beautiful. All of the songs from The Diana, Princess of Wales CD are marvelous.
Angel over Angel oil sounds freaking amazing ?
Thanks! I think the body oil is now discontinued.
That’s a shame.
I like old school country music like Patsy Cline, Chet Atkins, Bob Wills but today I’m counting the fiddles in Neil Young’s Comes a Time as bluegrass. Wearing Chanel 19 as it is the perfume that I’ve been wearing the longest in my collection and feels the most like “me.” “This old world keeps spinning round” certainly applies to today’s world.
Great song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxH_4e7W7hc
SOTD will be TF Vert de Fleur, when I get my perfume mojo going. Seems like there is a definite lack of mojo among NSTers this morning
I’ve been catching up on samples lately, no winners yet, that’s fine. FM Synthetic Jungle was kindof interesting tho, will merit a re-test. On me it’s mainly galbanum, LOTV and hyacinth, which I wasn’t expecting (no jungle). A modern take on Diorissimo perhaps?
Time to velcro up my walking sandals — need to get my walk in before it gets too hot. Have a fun Tuesday, all!
Ok, your description of SJ made me sit up! Maybe I will actually try to smell it.
Ah, you make Synthetic Jungle sound interesting to me to. Robin and I seem to have similar tastes in note combinations…
Oh gosh. Synthetic Jungle sounds really good to me. May have to seek it out after all.
Ach. That particular FM has intrigued me!
Today I’m in Tauer Lonesome Rider. It sounds like a country song, even if it’s not!
I love Lonesome Rider! Need to dig mine out and get it into more frequent rotation.
Hey, it smells like one too!
SotD is Olivier Durbano Pink Quartz.
An incensy rose fitted for this Tuesday.
An incense rose sounds nice!
Olivier Durbano does incense SO well.
Ooh, this sounds lovely.
I’m sporting my new recent find (and love at first sniff) The Time by THoO. Earlier, before shower I was smelling the atomizer of my bottle and kept thinking Oh what a tea fragrance that is!! Unbeatable. Now I had to wear it for the day!!
So nice how much you love it
Sprayed some narciso black cube this a.m., then unpacked a vintage mini EL Knowing that arrived in the mail, so had to dab a bit of it as well. The Narciso has politely bowed out so I’m just smelling lovely wafts of the EL.
Thanks SmokeyToes for pushing me to buy this. I’d tried a lot of frags from this era and genre (Halston, Paloma Picasso, etc) and they did not work for me but this does. Not sure if it’s this particular perfume, or where I am in my journey, though I suspect the latter.
I almost went with black cube this morning! You smell(ed) nice!
It’s my preferred cube for summer ?
I love knowing…and you have vintage..lucky duck
I can barely keep my eyes open and there is plenty of work that I need to finish today.
My hand grabbed Berdoues Assam of India this morning for no particular reason and I am glad I am wearing it before summer is over.
Having my third cup of coffee with a piece of Danish caramel-pumpkin kringle.
Happy Tuesday! ?
Lots of us are tired today.
Hopefully, we will all have the energy back tomorrow!
Sometimes I think Tuesdays are harder than Mondays. ?
Oh, I’m joining everyone in the lack of energy, poor sleep group. I’m a bit bleary-eyed as well.
Counting the minutes for the day to be over!
Ooh, that kringle sounds delicious!
Very tasty!
Also have a ? butt.
haha. Took me a minute to figure out
?
Have never owned a Chanel bag, but have found a (somewhat) apropos song for the chain-intensive look, courtesy of The Knitters.
For those of you who know who the band X was, The Knitters was their foray into country:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QacFWG1RSaA
In vintage No 19 edt today.
I love X! Have a dear friend who has known them for 40 years, and it’s always entertaining when he shares stories from the ‘old days’.
Morning – I’m wearing Parle Moi de Parfum Milky Musk, one of several soft sandalwood/fig/musk fragrances that I’ve fallen in love with.
Today’s picture is the perfect reminder of how we all need to make an effort to not contribute more trash–there are mountains of those single use cups EVERY day. I (mostly) refuse to use single use drink cups, although I have a few times during COVID when coffee places won’t use the container I brought from home. (Why? I don’t get it.) I’m renewing my efforts now.
I hear ya, I refuse to use single-use beverage and K-cups, so much waste!
Can I get an yeah! I am with ya!
It is a good reminder, springpansy. My favorite coffee place has reusable Joco glass cups available. I should just get one already!
As for Milky Musk, have you tried Olfactive’s Lumiere Blanche? I thought those two were very similar. You smell nice!
I haven’t tried that – thanks for the rec!
Springpansy, your comment reminded me of a piece of art that I spotted in the Philly airport this morning. At first glance, it was a beautiful sculpture of our galaxy, with twinkling lights for stars. Close up, you could see that everything was made from discarded plastic bottles and bags. Very thought provoking.
Yes, it sure is.
Today’s photo is a pretty good represenation of how I’m feeling. Just found out that my clutch is broken on top of needing a new starter, so I’m once again transportation-less and about to be out most of a paycheck. Started the week with the realization that I probably have a new basal carcinoma on my face (I’ve had two in the past and have not loved the surgeries and the days of bandages and stitches). Needing a hip x-ray and allergy testing to deal with some other issues so I’m feeling about as broken-down as my poor car!
In Paris-Biarritz today to try and infuse some elegance and refreshment into the day…
Oh no! The day can only get better from here, right?
You do smell elegant, Isabella. Hopefully the Chanel will spread good vibes in your world. ?
I’m so sorry about all that you are dealing with.
Thinking of you, Isabella. Been there myself with the basal carcinomas. No fun. On top of all the other stuff! We soldier on.
A lot to deal with, sending strengthening vibes.
Sending good thoughts your way, Isabella. That’s a lot you got going on there.
Oof, I’m so sorry about all that you are dealing with. You smell marvelous though!
Please hang in there!
I hope your day improves and the rest of the week is happier.
Sending hugs! ?
Arghhh! Not fun to face transportation complications when needing to take care of health complications. I am sorry.
Wowzers. That’s a rough stretch of road to be on. Hugs.
Sending fragrant hugs, Isabella. That’s a lot to manage all at once.
Oh boy. I hope all gets resolved soon!
Still wandering around this hotel bumping into walls from anesthesia yesterday. Threw me for a loop! ?
Probably will not wear any perfume again today because I’m still not feeling great. I’ll count on the NST Perfume Peeps to scent the world! ?
Meanwhile, T-Rex and I will snuggle in the bed today. ❤️?
Enjoy the snuggles.
I thunked my box of eels or else I would spray more to scent the world
Oh, do you have a BUB? That one surely is worth a second purchase. Congrats on the thunk!
I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a country fan either. I was weaned on metal since I was born and raised in the rust belt. Been head banging for years but branched out to world, jazz, classical when I hit my 30’s. I love this song and it’s done so well.. the talent is outrageous!
And the breakdown by a classically trained opera singer is the ? on top!
https://youtu.be/F-d3MWr-38s
Very cool!
Thanks for this, Deva! Hope you’re feeling better soon. And glad T-Rex has recovered from her oyster shell incident.
Thank you! She’s doing great but rather inpatient with my lack of energy the last couple of days…
Have you heard of Take 6? They are a cappella gospel sextet formed in 1980, hailing from Huntsville, Alabama.
Here’s one of their best known songs.
Spread Love:
https://youtu.be/tfHohRpcjo0
That was excellent! Immediately thought of Boyz II Men, and the first comment under the video was “before there was Boyz II Men, there was Take 6” ? I love all that harmonizing ❤️
Snuggling with a furry companion ❤️
I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks! She provides some good heat to keep my toes warm…
Hope you feel better tomorrow!
Thanks!
Feel better soon Deva!
Thank you!
Ugh. Sometimes that anesthesia hangover is a mean one.
Yes, it is. This is first time I’ve had general since I was twelve. Me no likey..?
Hope you’re back to your normal self in no time!
What to pick for country songs? I have a lot of favorites from when I used to listen to country music regularly–Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, George Strait. Sounds like I don’t like female singers, but there are loads of good songs from Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, The Judds, Suzy Bogguss, and (of course!) Dolly Parton! Really hard to pick, but in case I’m not able to post on Friday, “The Dance” by Garth Brooks is probably my all-time favorite. Not sure what I would pair with it. Something bittersweet.
SOTD is Neela Vermeire Niral from a sample. It is beautiful, but so expensive. Trying to think what I already have that is similar enough that I don’t need to buy it…..
Those are all my favorites too!
Scent of the afternoon is Iris Torrefie. Bought when NM was having a sale. This might be close enough to Niral.
Smelling pretty in Parfait de Roses
???
Fragonard Belle d’Arles today…love this one!
Notes are Orange Blossom Absolute, Bergamot, Neroli, Peach, Amber.
Sounds lovely. No annoying aromachems? I have never tried anything from Fragonard.
Not much of a country fan here, but I have loved a few alt-country artists such as kd lang and Lucinda Williams, whom others have already mentioned, and The Jayhawks. “Hollywood Town Hall” is one of my favorite albums ever. Here’s a nice live clip: https://youtu.be/N4_YK99nPmo
It makes me think of fall for some reason, so I’m wearing L’AP L’eau d’Ambre.
I will add The Mavericks to your alt-country. Lead singer Raul Malo has a great, very distinctive voice.
I will check them out; thanks, Sapphire!
Oh, just watched a few videos of the Mavericks, thanks!
I think for Friday I will wear something paired with the late Nanci Griffith, but for today I’m freezing and trying to warm up in Salome.
I do not really know her music so looking forward to your song choice.
Hello!
1) SOTD: Freshly washed hair in Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle & Melanin Leave In Conditioner & Cap Neroli. Perfect for this late summer day!
2) Just gave a training session to 17 other newly certified people who will be taking over my department(once we are made redundant in November). I just got feedback from about 9 of those saying my presentation was the most complete and most understandable of all the trainings that they have had for this department- AND- now certain other aspects made more sense because I pointed out how everything else tied together.
I am very happy that I was able to help people do their job and do it well, but at the same time it troubles me that these people have been going through training that has not been helpful for them.
What fantastic feedback. So cool.
And immediate, too. It made my morning.
That is great feedback and it speaks volumes. Congratulations!
Is this the training that they had wanted you to present with virtually no prep time? That feedback is proof positive of how important prep is.
This was indeed part of that no prep time training! I had the time in advance to prepare a powerpoint presentation and an instruction manual with graphics- which makes a huge difference!
Good job you, Ede97005!
And hopefully good for the people as well!
The feedback you received indicates you have a gift for teaching/instruction. Not sure you’d want to go in that direction professionally, but it could be a bullet point on your CV at the very least. Or maybe use your skills for a side hustle?
Believe or not, my undergrad degree included technical writing and instruction, so it was originally what I was trained for!
I’m in Ananda, a sort of apple-pear sugary confection. The best I can do for country song match-ups at the moment is Hank William’s “Hey, Good Lookin'” as in:
Say hey, good lookin’, what you got cookin’?
How’s about cookin’ somethin’ up with me?
Hey, sweet baby, don’t you think maybe
We could find us a brand new recipe?
I like the idea of Hank Williams sometimes more than I enjoy listening to him–His lyrics (excepting this particular song) are so sad. . . I’m probably not cut out for the Blues or Country music on most days. Although I do love Nina Simone. . .
One of those who died too young like Patsy Cline.
Absolutely. The perils of touring now pale to what they were 50 to 100 years ago.
Great song choice! I think there’s a lotta love for Hank, just the way you expressed it.
His grandchildren! Whoah! Nice legacy.
Awwww… and now I am thinking of all of his songs that make me smile. Lovesick Blues, Jambalaya, Move It On Over. . . .
SOTD: Probably this a mixture of patchouli and a light citrus. Thinking, a body spray of a VS Crush or maybe Green Tea eau Verte. I refuse to accept summer is over.
Country music.
Song of the day for country classics, featuring Jamey Johnson and Cody Jinx singing a Randy Travis classic. Wish I could get the youtube link to work, but “Diggin’Up Bones” is the song!
Have a great day!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6AaHrOYpi0
Is this it?
That’s the Randy Travis version, which is amazing!
Jamey Johnson did a few songs for Randy, and called Cody Jinx to sing it with him, to Randy.
Love that song.
Thanks for looking it up.
I love Randy Travis!
Long day at work, no time to eat anything and finally at home. I am starting to get used to the British habit of not eating anything or having a quick sandwich in front of a computer… but I miss my Mediterranean 1 hour lunches with conversation!
I wore a small spritz of Grand Soir sample today, still can smell it 12 h later. This is a very firm contender in my wish list for next perfume purchase. It’s really comforting and a Benzoin Bunny’s paradise (in Deva’s words)
Grand Soir is so, so good. I doubt I would ever go through a full bottle, but I have definitely eyed up those travel sprays.
Thanks, I didn’t know they did travel sprays! That’s good news for the bank account.. though the bottles of MFK are very cute. This is the only I really like, though I wish they still did Absolue Pour le Soir. That one sounds amazing too.
You can order through Suzan ShopFrance. I got mine that way plus a bright red holder. I also have a FB or remnants of one as I split it.
That’s good stuff.
Started the day in Clean Reserve Skin, almost no sillage but lasts, and this evening it’s Cacharel Eden, in all its weird greenness glory.
I’ve never smelt Eden before.. I must try it in my next airport passing by. Difficult to see Cacharel in stores nowadays but they have epic perfumes.
Anais Anáis was my first perfume as a teen- aunt’s present; I loved Lou Lou too.. but I wasn’t allowed to buy this as she though it was “awful and too much for a little girl” ?
Eden is very polarising, it’s a love or hate, Anaïs-Anaïs was also my first perfume, so we’re twins?, I have a little 30ml of Loulou which I wear but it is indeed nuclear if over-applied.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6wfj06qZ6A
Nice music choice Robin. I’m following your lead with another Elvis Costello link but really it’s Kris Kristoffersen with Roseanne Cash andJohn Mellencamp.
A cold week here: snow (Lillyjo!) on the hills yesterday and heavy forst this morning causing Sprocket the Rocket (dog) to go for a cartoon skate on the deck, all legs in 4 different directions. I went for a glorious walk at the weekend, a circuit of the graveyard (first time since April) . Very slow and steady and heard (but didn’t see) my first kingfisher of the spring. There is a nesting hole in the top of one of the big pines. The pussy willows are beautiful. Too early for the holly flowers but lovely to be back . Awaiting news from my CT scan, wearing Moonlight Patchouli.
Thought of you the other day. I drove past the cemetery and saw a bunch of turkeys! In the city!
Great song ??
Never seen a turkey in the graveyard but I can imagine it as a song title.
Turkeys can be very much city residents. I’ve seen them in my suburban neighborhood only 1/2 mile away from my house. Shocked me when I saw them… they’re BIG!
Huge thanks Kanuka, that is one of my favorite songs (pretty sure I assumed Janis Joplin wrote it until I was long since an adult) and had never heard this version.
What an unusual grouping, would like to find this episode.
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8vogu
Glad you liked it. This is my favourite from that grouping ‘April 5th’ written by Roseanne, Elvis and Kris and performed for the first time here
Oh lovely, thank you so much!
Yay for walks, kingfishers, and sprawling dogs. Sending a big hug! Newest addition to our backyard menagerie is a white-breasted nuthatch. Apparently these are quite common, but this is the first sighting for us in our yard. It’s much bigger than the red-breasted nuthatches that we have, and likes to dramatically flap its wings when it flies into the feeder and scares away all the other birds. We’re calling him (her?) Bruiser because we have no imagination.
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/White-breasted_Nuthatch/photo-gallery/68039391
We don’t have nuthatch here so I looked it up. Beautiful birds. Apparently males have a black cap, females grey . Report back!
Ahah! Bruiser is male. But I will now be on the lookout for a female. Hopefully, they’ll stay through the winter.
That’s not very Beatrix Potter, name wise
I got a smile from your description of Rocket doing the 4-legged doggie skid, a la Scooby Doo!
Exactly! Scooby-doo is perfect
Thank you for that video! Love that song, normally, but what a great collaboration.
I’ll watch that again.
R.I.P Norm Macdonald.
One of my favorite comedians. I have been binge watching him for the last 2 weeks. I am just heartsick.
Lillyjo, I literally just came here to post this — my son just told me.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/14/arts/television/norm-macdonald-dead.html
Oh, and that turns out to not be the proper obit, so NYT was caught as offguard as the rest of us.
NM’s cancer joke is making the rounds on twitter (if this turns out to be accurate, no idea but it sounds like him):
“I’m pretty sure, I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That’s not a loss. That’s a draw.”
I only ‘discovered’ him this year (we don’t have SNL) and enjoyed his interviews in Norm Macdonald Has a Show. Sad to hear of his death.
He was a really amazing talk show guest too…inevitably the host would not make it through with a straight face.
But he could be out of line and/or controversial too. He made some “me too” comments that weren’t widely appreciated, etc etc.
This older piece in the NYT really does capture him — that he cared about the joke more than anything else.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/30/magazine/norm-macdonald-still-in-search-of-the-perfect-joke.html
Thanks for that. I enjoyed reading about him. Love the moth joke.
I thought of you as soon as I saw this today. I know he was a special favorite of yours. He left the world with a lot of laughter and you can’t do much better than that! RIP Norm
Thanks Deva.
I was really looking forward to his new tour material.
O crap.
Love this guy.
Hello there NST.
Another trip, another day of jet lag. I flew out on 09-11 for my Mom’s burial, which was yesterday. It hit me harder than I thought it would. But I am canny enough to realize that grief is going to have its own path and its own schedule. I am hanging in there.
Flew in EARLY this morning, and touched down at PHL at 4:38am. A nap was definitely called for after all that.
A belated “Hello there!” to Amyitis. I hope that you are doing well.
SOTD = AG Mandragore EdP, from the sample/decant stash and one of you wonderful folks. It’s perfect for the warm, muggy weather here.
Welcome back Jalapeno!
I’m so sorry for your loss! Sending you my condolences and lots of hugs.
Thank you adanst!
My Mom’s health situation and passing in the last couple of months were why my posting here became rather erratic.
Glad you are home.
Hopefully you will be able to sleep well tonight.
Hiya lillyjo!
Glad to be home. I don’t know when I will be out to see my brother next. The world seems to be extremely unpredictable right now. But as he pointed out, there’s always phone calls. And emails. And texting… ?
I hope you and brother are holding up OK, Jalapeno. Sending fragrant hugs if and whenever you want them.
Thank you Vee. Hugs are *always* appreciated!
I hope you were able to get some good rest after that early flight. So sorry about your mom. ?
I had a pretty decent nap this morning. I’m hoping that it won’t mess up my night sleep.
Thanks for the condolences. It hurts, but it also could have been so much worse. At least it wasn’t during the height of COVID.
So glad to hear you’re hanging in there, Jalapeno!
Thank you tulipani. ?
All the best to you, Jalapeno. That is a hard loss. I am glad you were able to travel.
Thanks skalolazka. I’m glad that I could travel for this, but am hoping to stay put for a while now. I’m over airports at present.
⛈ ? ⚡️ last night and the muggies today too. Glad you’re home!
The weather was quiet and clearing by the time I got out here, so I missed the wild weather. Didn’t hurt my feelings one bit, since I had the scariest landing on trip way out to Colorado! I thought for sure I was going to toss my cookies… ?
Glad I’m back.
Here’s to being home. ?
And staying there for a while.
We really are never prepared for such a loss, are we? I’m sorry you have to experience losing your mom.
Thanks AnniePerfumes.
Yeah, even though we knew that Mom didn’t have much time left, we were still surprised when it happened.
Thinking of you! Hugs!
Hugs back atcha for all that work drama you dealt with yesterday! Yikes!
Hugs to you, Jalapeno. Something I am not looking forward to facing some day.
So sorry to hear about your loss. Sending a prayer and good wishes your way.
Too many meetings today, so posting later than usual.
SOTD was Antonio Alessandria Gattopardo, from a sample. I like this a lot. It feels different with each sniff. Sometimes I get cola, sometimes an iced latte, sometimes honeyed figs, sometimes creamy almond milk, all of it with a sprinkling of cocoa powder. This is a beautiful way to do a gourmand.
Drinking a delicious ceylon while listening (virtually) to a talk about the radium girls.
Bletch on all those meetings! ?
Been a little out of sorts today. Nicholas was pretty much a nonevent where I’m located, but my sister lost power as did a lot of people. Did not sleep well due to the bluster and rain. Wearing Tauer Orange Star. It’s lifting me a bit on this grey day.
Glad that Nicholas was a big nothing for you.
I’m exhausted from my first day back to work, in person. I’m starting back this week, 2-3 days a week. It’s not terrible, traffic is still lighter than it was pre-pandemic. But we’re still having meetings online (ie. it’s still not ok for a group to meet in an indoor room), so it does feel a bit absurd to go to the office and then zoom with others, all in our own offices!
I wore Orris Tattoo. It was perfect for my slightly frazzled first day back.
Strange times that we are living in. Your work setup does strike me as being extra weird, though.
Agree with ⬆️ jalapeño. I am on Zoom calls most of the time but the people I work with are from all over the place. If there’s anyone on the office who is part of a meeting, we end up joining from a conference room.
It’s hot and muggy here. I’m in Paris-Deauville again (celebrating my new bottle). My warm-weather scents don’t really steer me toward country songs.
We just caved and turned on the AC (it’s almost 8 pm) because it clearly was not going to cool off enough tonight for us to sleep, even with fans going. And — like so many of you — Mr. Skal and I are ridiculously, unbearably tired and we both really need some sleep.
Won’t hurt my feelings one bit when the muggies go away. Hope it happens soon for both of us.
SOTD = Guerlain Patchouli Ardent EDP
Woody airy patchouli with floral notes. I suggest wearing it instead of judging it based on how it smells on paper (says one of worst violators of her own advice ?).

I heard back from *shopfrance* regarding Nina Ricci Rouge which should have been Extra Rouge. I am supposed to get half the cost of the bottle as a credit (instead of me having to mail it to her) and also she can hopefully purchase Extra Rouge this trip.
Are you satisfied with her credit only?
And patchouli! Good choice.
It sounds like ShopFrance is trying to work with you on this.
Patchouli Ardent sounds wonderful!
So so late but Solstice Scents Violet Mallow is my SOTD. I got a sample as an extra freebie in a swap during the last swap meet, and I’m thinking I’ll upgrade to a small bottle of the oil when I’m done with sample. I’ve been loving it.
SOTD to bed is Gentle Fluidity Gold Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Good night everyone!
