It's Tuesday and National Fried Chicken Day. Birthdays: Frida Kahlo, Hilary Mantel. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Berdoues Assam of India for today's heat advisory (we're expecting heat index values between 100 to 104). Tea at the moment is an iced latte with a bit of nutmeg.
Reminder: on 7/9 we're honoring Ice Cream month. Tell us your favorite flavor, share a recipe if you like, and wear any perfume that you think fits the project.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is Earl Grey Tea & Shortbread Cookies ice cream from McConnell's Fine Ice Creams at Facebook.
I guess it’s licorice week for me since my favourite ice cream has licorice ribbons in it (and I have fond memories of Swensen’s licorice ice cream, black as tar but much tastier). Today I’m wearing 1999-vintage Yohji Homme: the top is starting to go a bit haywire but the rest of it is sublime, black licorice, coffee, leather, and carnation. It’s just intoxicating.
I don’t remember ever eating licorice ice cream, ever. I do not know if it is because it was never on offer, or ? Seems like I would eat if if I saw it.
If I recall correctly, you’re as devoted to Marvis Amarelli Licorice toothpaste as I am, so I think you would enjoy licorice ice cream. You should come to Canada some time, get some Tiger Tail ice cream. You’ll like it. You can try butter-tart ice cream while you’re at it.
I love tiger tail ice cream!!! Haven’t had it in decades.
Seriously, you have another ice cream I have never heard of?? How is this, when I eat so much ice cream? Off to google.
That perfume sounds so good.
It really does! YUM!
Licorice ice cream? Ohhh that sounds delicious! Mr. SmokeyToes intensely dislikes licorice so I’d happily have that pint all to myself!
I love Jeni’s peanut butter chocolate chip, and I love it even more because everyone else in my family hates it. There is nothing worse than going for your ice cream and discovering someone else ate it all. (My favorite used to be Graeter’s black cherry chocolate chip, but that one is impossible to keep safe in my house, even hidden inside other containers in the freezer — yes, I’ve tried.)
I vaguely remember seeing licorice ice cream *somewhere* when I was a kid. But I hated that flavor then. Now I would definitely try it!
Another heat wave is here. Heat index in the 100’s, so I am drenched in Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide. Such a great refreshing citrus, incense scent! It has become one of my favorites for unbearable hot days.
Having iced coffee and a handful of plantain chips.
Happy Tuesday! ?
It is beautiful and has great staying power. I hope it makes the heat bearable.
I should stop reading these posts as my shopping list (for my personal as well as mr f’s use) is getting longer and longer. I wish he would be quicker with finishing his bottles:)
It is! And I am surprised it is long lasting, despite being a cologne.
Well, Mr. F needs to spray more lavishly to catch up with you! ?
Citrus + incense is a little unusual, yes?
It is, but very interesting and appealing.
That’s my favourite summer incense scent, you smell great!
Thank you! It is a fantastic scent!
Wearing Gardenia Batik for orientation at my new job
You got the job! Congratulations, that’s such great news!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Yay!!
Congratulations!
Excited for you.
Congrats!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! I’m very excited for you.
Congratulations! ?✨
Congratulations!
Great SOTD Robin, I have only tested the Assam out of the Berdoues line. How is the rest of the line?
Today’s pick from the sample glass was Rivières de Cartier – Allégresse. It helped me survive the 8km bike ride to work (snail speed) but did not make it through the ride back home so had to reapply.
I really love the cute three-pack of the Rivières samples but at least this one will not be upgraded to a full bottle although it is nice and refreshing. Another 113€ saved to Saint Donatella’s horror?
Happy Tuesday!
I really love Berdoues Peng Lai. My first osmanthus!
Thanks for the tip! Just remembered I have a mini of this somewhere?
The ones I have tried have been fine / wearable, which is what I would call Assam of India. I would not say I love any of them. If the Assam of India did not have elephants on the bottle I would not care about it, insofar as citrus tea scents are not hard to come by, and I already have the brilliant Carthusia Mediterrano.
Interestingly, Robin, that one (Mediterraneo) is among the ones I’ve found in searching for something with the combination of lemon and thyme. I even have a small bottle of it, but somehow it doesn’t conjure up my beloved lemon thyme ice cream. I think that might be because there’s too much of a tea note in it.
No, there is not enough thyme for that. Oyedo has more thyme, but also more of other things…that wouldn’t quite be lemon thyme ice cream either.
I think I liked Assam of India the best. But none of the Berdoues that I tried were loves. Only likes.
Thanks, sounds like I have not missed much. I feel I am getting increasingly cynical about perfume, though. Plus, finding something completely different gets more challenging as the n of bottles & minis & samples increases?
I’m wearing Wood Sage & Sea Salt for the first time from a new decant.
You smell great in the heat!
I do love Wood Sage & Sea Salt, it has a lovely vibe in the dry down.
Good morning.
Wearing Petit Fracas. I haven’t worn this for so long but I found it tucked away far back in the stash.
Currently drinking iced rooibos with a swirl of honey.
Iced rooibos with a swirl of honey sounds so good right now! And I never make it. Hmmm.
We are having a tropical storm/almost a hurricane passing us as I’m writing this, lots of wind and rain (but our town will be ok). To compliment this stormy weather I’m wearing SQUID. I have been craving squid lately and finally it is the perfect day to wear it. You know how for example Herba Fresca is a genius fragrance in the fresh category? Squid is just genius in a oceanic/marine inspired class. The best of it? There is zero ozonic or aquatic notes just deep, dark and murky ocean depths…
Good luck, hope you do not lose power!
Believe it or not out of my window I noticed some sparks out of the power lines that run parallel to our house. Now we are in the middle of 70mph winds and tons of rain. We lost power in PARTS of the home. Weird. One fridge and one bathroom light are the ones that stopped working after I noticed these electric sparks outside.
Sounds like some of your circuit breakers got tripped after that.
That would be my guess too.
But it isn’t only us on the strip who lost parts of the power, but neighbors too and someone called the city – they will be repairing that today.
Back to work after a long weekend. I already miss the beach, the picnic, and the fireworks. OK, maybe not the fireworks. They are still going off in my neighborhood, and have been since mid-June. Thankfully, they are more subdued than last year, when they began at the beginning of May and continued to September.
Anyway, Pomelo Paradis for a hot day.
Wow, your neighborhood likes fireworks! We get them for about a week, maybe, if that.
https://gothamist.com/news/will-last-summers-firework-boom-return-nyc
If you click on the link, you will see that fireworks complaints spiked several thousand percent last year. Last year was truly a banner year…but yes, my neighborhood is famous (infamous?) for fireworks.
And here is the Daily Mail talking about how bad it was last year. they include images/videos that show the very professional level of fireworks!
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8451389/Fireworks-complaints-NYC-soared-4-000-June.html
Robin, please delete if it’s not OK to post these links.
Of course it’s ok!
And that is some serious firework action. You have my sympathies.
Morning all, My SOTD is Vanille d’Iris by Ormond Jayne, beautiful powdery iris.
Yesterday, I discovered a pile of samples that I didn’t realize I had. I’ll pull one from the basket each day this week. Some don’t have labels so this could be an adventure!
I have an excess of buckwheat flour, I found an interesting recipe for French Galettes that I’ll make for supper tonight.
Headed to the gym. I took the weekend off, including yesterday so time to get with it…
They just closed our gym…for a month to renovate. So I am jealous of your gym time. I ordered a foam roller and a set of 5lb weights to try to do some home workouts
Oh, what a disappointment! I found that being active, every day, is so good for my peace of mind.
I have several Youtube videos that I like. I’d be happy to share if you’re interested?
Sure! Just maybe your two favorites?
Favorite Yoga video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocg3InAEZMU&t=490s
Favorite Channel: Jessica Smith TV. I love her channel because she has a variety of videos (yoga, calisthenics, circuit training), varying skill levels, and duration, her instructions are very clear.
https://www.youtube.com/user/jessicasmithtv
Grazie!!
I have a 50ml bottle of Aroma M Nobara-cha that is not getting any love here. Any Canadians want to give it a shot (for free)?
I’d love to have it if it’s still available. :-). My email is my user name at me dot com.
I’m wearing a bit of Bombay Bling (sample) on one side and Chanel Paris-Venise (split decant) on the other. (I know, a little weird.) I really like Bombay Bling–why don’t I have a bottle yet?!
I took myself over to an outdoor mall yesterday and enjoyed the sunshine and happy mostly unmasked people and just browsed and then bought lunch for myself (a rare treat). I love Mr. SP, but we’ve been together a LOT this last year. It was actually fun to be out on my own.
Bombay Bling is so pretty! You’re smelling great!
That sounded like a lovely way to spend the day!
I love going out alone after so many months cooped up with just the DH. Glad you had a fun day!
Ciao a tutti! Hello everyone
Not sure if anyone is following the Euro Cup but today Italy plays Spain and I am sporting a Missoni dress with blue and white colors.
Not sure about my SOTD-wanted to pick something for good luck. I only have 3 perfumes from an Italian house ..Prada, Bvlgari and Nobile 1942. I will let someone pick a house for me..
Ah, Bvlgari is always nice.
I vote for Nobile 1942. It reminds me of you ?
Forza Italia!
Siiiiii!!!!!
Well THAT was stressful. Eek!
?? ⚽️ ❤️
Which perfume did you end up in? Inquiring minds want to know. ?
Bvlgari ???
Brava Italia!! What a nail-biter.
On my second cup of coffee and commando so far – have to head out to the yard and pull a mess o’ weeds pretty soon, and don’t want to attract bunches of bees. We planted a new tree in the front yard yesterday and it’s adorable – hope it survives the summer. It’s a stewartia pseudocamellia (in case anyone is wondering).
That is a very pretty tree! It seems like a combination of a crepe myrtle and a magnolia, with extra pretty fall color thrown in for good measure! I hope it will do well. I am hiding inside today, but I will say that yesterday, once I got outside and acclimated, I really enjoyed my weeding, etc. and the heat! Kinda the opposite of a polar plunge!
Good luck to you and the tree! Looks so pretty.
Got my second shot today and junior (14) got her first. Our contribution to getting rid of this coronavirus!
Loving and wearing Perris Monte Carlo Vanille de Tahiti, which was love at second sight. Isn’t that always surprising when you write off a perfume and then fall in love with it later?
Received a cheap thrill bottle of Zara Holistic Flow today. Passion fruit that turns sweet just when you think it is turning (too) tart. Yummmm!
Congrats on your second jabs!
I’ll have to keep an eye out for Holistic Flow. I love passion fruit (the fruit) but haven’t found a perfume version to love yet.
Good vaccination news from you!
Congratulations on your vaccines! Kicking it to the curb!
Today’s scents so far: native blackberries that we amended our breakfast with and that smelled surprisingly like Mure et Musc; vanilla-laden cinnamon-walnut bread warming in the toaster; the cool damp of the still-foggy earth (but warming up fast!). Sadly, I think I’m going to have to cancel our big summer-vacation trip to Yosemite next week as it’s supposed to get dangerously hot again — hiking in 97-degree heat does *not* sound pleasant, nor potentially getting stuck in traffic jams when it’s pushing 110 near our hotel…
Perfume-wise, I can feel two conflicting impulses shouldering at each other in my psyche — one still wanting to avoid perfume because of its emotionality, and one starting to want to reclaim it for myself. I know the latter will eventually win!
Your breakfast sounds (and smells) delicious!
Sorry to hear about your vacation plans. I’ve braved some very cold winter hikes, but at 97-degrees I think I would turn around five minutes in and call it a day.
The battling perfume inclinations sound like a step forward. And reclaiming the things you love as YOURS — that is a huge positive note.
Isabella, were you asking if I really do have a cat named Teflon? If so, the answer is yes. None of the other names we were considering for her stuck. So the cat was kind of named after a pun.
I love it! And you can fry eggs on her without them sticking!
Perfume was yours before you met him and will always be yours.
So sorry about your vacation!
I’m in the Zara/Jo Malone Amalfi Sunray today because a sheer, linear orange blossom + citrus sounded refreshing on this 96-degree scorcher of a day. I ordered the discovery set of these from Zara weeks ago and it finally arrived yesterday (in a damaged box with no cushioning!) Luckily the samples were ok.
Drinking a pot of Earl Gray.
In that set, I like the Vetiver PampleMousse and Boho Bluebells the best! I think that Amalfi Sunray is PERFECT for heat and keep a sense of refreshment.
Yeek, glad that those samples were OK despite their packaging.
Still in Chanel but switched over to no 22 edt. Had to adjust my work schedule and know people won’t be happy but I’ve had enough of what I’ve been working.
Hopefully you don’t work to please others…
Learning not too.
Hi everyone! It’s my day off. My daughter and I took a trip to the local Zoo. We went early before it became too hot or crowded. We just finished lunch, and will have to run errands in a bit. I only wore sunscreen at the Zoo, but now I am wearing Miami Glow body mist.
I have been thinking of taking my two to the zoo also…
You smell sexy.
Lol, thanks! I did have a strange man comment to me that I had pretty feet! Lol, maybe I should go lighter on the sprays!
What a super day off.
What a fun day off! I love Miami Glow, it smells like vacation and lilies to me. Always gives me a smile.
Nice day off! Enjoy!
You smell delightful: I like Miami Glow, too.
Glad you have a day off and you did something FUN!
That sounds like an excellent day off!
Glad you had a great day off!
I know! It’s doesn’t happen often. It was a good day ?
Meant as a reply to Hajusuuri. But yeah… good day?
I was in Yardley Iris during the day, this evening it’s Clous pour une Pelure, very bright spiced orange… like a lot.
Oh, thanks for the nudge on Yardley Iris! Will try for this tomorrow.
I hope you are feeling better today.
Glad you like Iris too. Thank you, my wrist is now an interesting shame of green?
*shade of green that is, although I a ashamed of my clumsiness.
You smell great!
Thank you Cazaubon.
FInishing decants of Solar Blossom by Mizensir and Reckless Pour Femme Essence by Roja Dove today.
These are similar w/ orange blossom and vanilla.
I prefer Solar Blossom but it doesn’t have great longevity on me sadly.
Wanted to add that I deployed hajusuuri-level sprays of Solar Blossom and lo and behold I am getting better results today!!! ?
Woohoo!
I’m wearing O de Lancome again today just because it’s so refreshing and I enjoyed it yesterday. I’m expecting an HVAC repairman any time soon and didn’t want to wear anything too overbearing.
I remembered another kind of good ice cream. Back in the day some 30+ years ago when I made ice cream, I tried some fun flavors, among them pumpkin spice which turned out quite well. But the best one was cranberry! It was not only tart and delicious but came out the most beautiful rich deep pink color. That one was a hit. I’m not sure it would make a good fragrance to wear, though, so I’ll stick with my search for something with lemon and thyme.
Oh, that cranberry ice cream sounds really good! I remember making frozen Cosmos- we blended the cranberry, lime juice and triple sec syrup together, made it in a ice cube tray and crushed them, then floated vodka on top.
Cranberry ice cream sounds tasty! O’ de Lancome is a favorite.
There was a flanker to Dior’s Addict that had cranberry in it. I think Aurora wears it from time to time.
You’re absolutely right, it is Dior Addict Eau Délice ?
Tuesday!
1) SOTD: Petals fragrance from Beauty Pie. It’s gonna hit the 90s today but the morning is perfect and this scent is really lovely right now.
2) Welp, the company cancelled our meetings and we have not received any notices that we were told we would get today. But our paychecks arrived perfectly on time so….
I have interviews this week and a kitchen to finish. Just going to focus on those.
#2 – very unusual but hey, same comment as penny-wise pound-foolish like their original strategic direction change!
Sitting at my desk with my space heater puffing up warmth near my feet. My three pairs of overall-shorts are languishing in my drawer. We’ll get our heat wave soon enough, I know.
Used up the last dregs of my Dilettante decant. I definitely regret not buying a bottle when I could have.
Dilettante is so wonderful. A moment of silence for your finished decant.
I’ve been busy and so have not been posting or even reading much, but my SOTD is for one of the recent CPs I missed — EL Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. This is one that I bought some years ago, unsniffed, and decided I didn’t like on me. I grabbed it yesterday thinking it was White Linen (both are in their boxes in my stuffed-to-capacity wooden perfume chest) and didn’t realize my error until I sprayed it. And guess what? It’s beautiful on me now. I sprayed with abandon this morning (or at least, with what I thought was abandon for a white floral — but now, five hours on, it is wearing very light and close to the skin).
I don’t know if the shift in my assessment is because it’s hot and muggy and that suits this fragrance, or if my tastes are changing, or if my body chemistry is. Of course, now I am thinking I should NEVER get rid of a scent because I don’t like it; things change.
I’m doing the same, as I’ve gotten rid of things and regretted. Except for stuff I’m very very sure I never want to smell again.
Things really do change! And I have not worn the TG in AGES, I should pull out my bottle.
Songes, radiant and dusky at the same time. Tiring day, and far too long journey home. But it’s done.
Hope tomorrow is easier, austenfan!
Noodling around the house making minor efforts to tidy up in a spicy cloud of Spellbound. I am saving the CP for Friday, because I may not come up with anything even then.
“Minor efforts to tidy up” is pretty much my idea of cleaning
SOTD = Guerlain Ginger Piccante
I think ginger would make a great ice cream flavor enhancer. I believe Aftelier has fresh ginger Chef Essence and you can use a drop to add to your ice cream du jour.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ_wM2dBvzR/?utm_medium=copy_link
In other news, I will likely go into the office tomorrow instead of Thursday / Friday. We’re supposed to get Elsa weather in these here parts later this week.
Ginger tea ice cream is delicious! I love the combo of green tea and ginger ice creams.
And Ginger Piccante is so beloved by NSTers. Sounds like a summer must have
I can’t help but think I’ve had ginger ice cream in my lifetime! And yes, Ginger Piccante is quite beloved!
Candied ginger ice cream would be delicious!! ?
Oooh, now you’re talking!
Songs of the Day:

It’s a musical 2-for Tuesday! ?
It’s also disgustingly hot and humid here. I’m sharing that with Robin, PL67, hasujuuri, and a few other folks. Iced tea and delivered pizza have been my best food friends today. ???
SOTD = 8 Billion Astronauts Extrait from Soivohle and the sample stash. I’d call this one a “bubblegum-incense floral”. Too bad it’s sold out.
It is still awful here. We had a strong thunderstorm an hour ago with several fallen trees in the area. It is over now. Pizza also for us tonight and sushi tomorrow. This summer is going to be horribly overwhelming.
The storms in around here seem to have rained themselves out before getting to my place, which doesn’t hurt my feelings in the slightest.
Argh, that should be “around here”. Proofread fail! Ah, the irony…
You have the most interesting samples! I managed a short walk before it got: 1) even hotter than when I first went out and 2) the skies threatened to open and these were enough to get me home!
Thank you! And this one was a freebie, no less!
Still really yucky here as well. It rained briefly and now the humidity feels even worse.
And it cooled off slightly here but I don’t think that will last long!
Francesca Bianchi Tyger Tyger today for the peach note. I was using an ice cream I recently ate as inspiration: Jeni’s Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam. My partner gave me a Jeni’s gift card for my birthday in April so I took it upon myself to have 8 pints shipped to me. That was in May, and now there are only two pints left in my freezer. ?
Do ice cream go bad? I have 3 pints right now and I bought them all last year (either 3 or 4Q).
Well, Google says yes because of bacterial contamination, but the timeframe is all over place. I also checked my two remaining Jeni’s pints, and they both have freezer burn ice crystals. Grr, definitely going to finish them this week after scraping off the ice.
Ok , these are unopened so maybe there are other rules for that.
Ice cream can get freezer burn in an opened container. It it’s still sealed, I wouldn’t worry. Voice of experience on the freezer burn, BTW.
Oh yeah, these are unopened!
Tsk. Another typo up there. Should be “IF”.
I’ve heard that if you place a layer of waxed paper over the top of the ice cream after it’s opened, then it can create a “seal” on it. I’ve done that and it seemed to work. I pressed it gently on the top of the ice cream so that no air can reach it.
I will do that once I open it! Surprisingly or maybe not, I have a roll of wax paper within easy reach!
Yes…or press ‘n seal wrap. Works for guacamole too!
I will try that in the future when I don’t plan to eat my ice cream quickly. Usually, it doesn’t linger long in the freezer. But ordering so many pints at once makes the difference.
I sprayed myself with extra-hajusuuri levels of Chanel Paris-Riviera today. I lost count over 13!
???!
Lol! 13!
Pffft. Someone on Instagram must have sprayed 24 times of some perfume! The Les Eaux line does lend itself to spraying oneself silly!
Bukhara today for me. It seemed extra carroty at the opening, and kept me happy all day long. It fades on skin, but I spritzed my rather low cut T shirt, and apparently got the top edge of my bra, because my deccollette (sp?) is still emanating lovely Iris! I love coming here and reading about everyone’s adventures!
Sampled the underwhelming Xerjoff Dolce Amalfi today. Next!
Wearing the delicious Micallef Vanille Orient tonight.
