Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Happy Almost-Friday, happy International Reggae Day, and welcome to July. It’s also Estée Lauder’s birthday…and if you are so inclined, do wear an Estée Lauder fragrance in her honor, if you have one. (And thanks to whomever suggested we do a group project for her birthday — do raise your hand and take credit because I'm afraid I've forgotten.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Estée Lauder Sensuous Nude.
Reminder: on 7/2, Donatella will be dropping by for the damage poll, so wear one of your recent purchases, and tell us why you bought it, and whether or not you have any regrets.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is reportedly a Jay Strongwater for Estee Lauder solid perfume compact from 2010.
AND it’s Canada Day.
I’m wearing Knowing parfum, which I think is one of the greatest chypres ever made. It’s perfect, easily one of my top five scents. It makes me so happy.
Pyramus, I almost sprayed on Knowing myself but instead opted for a couple of judicious drops of Youth-Dew bath oil on my wrists (the most one can risk in this heat), which has been my favorite since around 1956/57.
I admire your choice!
I completely agree! Such a gorgeous floral/patchouli/chypre! I think I’ll join you! 🙂
Happy Canada Day. You smell so good!
When I sample tested Knowing I couldn’t stop huffing my wrist. I was out shopping at the time and ran back to get a bottle.
Happy Canada Day!
This is the second year Mr L hasn’t been in his mother country to celebrate.
Happy Canada Day!
Yay for Canada! Your neighbors to the south think you’re really nifty! 🙂
Happy Canada Day ?! You smell great!
Happy Canada Day, pyramus!
OH Canada!!
Happy Canada Day!!!!
Happy Canada Day!
Happy Canada Day! ?
???.
Wearing EL White Linen Parfum. It always puts a smile on my face, when I wear it.
Happy Thursday!
WL was my first “grown up” perfume. I’m sure the ad campaign influenced me when it was introduced, but I still truly love it. You smell happily perfumed!
Thank you, MossyBerry! I don’t reach for White Linen or most of the Estee Lauder scents in my collection that often anymore. However, they make me happy whenever I wear them. Like you, I still love White Linen!
Another great EL scent! You smell so good. I had a small bottle years ago and used it all!
Thank you, Gail!
And we are twins again today! Don’t we have excellent taste? ?
Great minds think alike! We smell terrific! ?
You smell marvelous! A former colleague wore it beautifully. Every time I smell it, I’m reminded of her gentle, kind nature.
Thank you! It is a beautiful scent! I have a vintage mini and I wonder how it compares to the newest version.
I remember liking that one when I gave a bottle an exploratory sniff a while back.
It is indeed a great scent! I like it, but I do not love it.
I do not have a summer friendly EL scent, but I dabbed a bit of Private Collection in honor of Lauder’s birthday. My main scent is Diorella.
That works! I almost wore the Private Collection tuberose, but it’s just too humid.
As much as I love white florals, I cannot wear most of them in hot weather. In moderation, OJ Tiare and La chasse aux Papillons can be fine in summer.
I almost wore Private Collection, but did not want to take my vintage mini to work on the bike…
Wise. Vintages are fragile.
I wore Diorella earlier this week, and it made me so happy all day!
? ?
I have a dab of Youth Dew vintage bath oil on. It’s not super hot but probably 75 in my apartment. It’s blooming beautifully, resins, spice, incense, balsam. Color me surprised, but it’s surprisingly gorgeous.
Good morning!
I am in my absolute favourite EL, Youth Dew. I layered the perfume over the bath oil and I smell great 😛
Yes, you “Dew” smell great!
I have some vintage bath oil, it’s glorious.
Yes!
Wearing Pure White Linen, which used to be my standby scent for the office. I still love it, but I’ve branched out! That’s a euphemism for “fell down the rabbit hole,” lol.
“Branching out:” for me, I’m thinking banyan trees! 🙂 You smell wonderful!
Banyan trees — perfect! Yes, that’s me.
I’m wearing Youth Dew. My Mom wore this, along with White Linen. For the longest time I thought of Youth Dew as an old lady scent. Then I became an old lady, and realized that Youth Dew was fantastic for women of many ages.
Youth Dew is exquisite! It’s so elegant and I agree, fantastic for any age!
My MIL wears this one often and Estee
Morning all, I’m joining Pyramus and wearing EL’s Knowing, one of my favorite perfumes from one of my favorite perfume houses. I attribute my love of all things chypre to the iconic Coriandre. I think they share DNA.
Robin, I love that perfume compact. My grandmother collected EL’s perfume solid compacts. It was always such a joy to see them when we visited. I wasn’t allowed to touch, just look…
I have both Knowing and Coriandre on my shelf and agree, SmokeyToes: they do share DNA. The rose in the Knowing waves familiarly at the coriander in the Coriandre.
Both are stunning.
We may be scent twins! 🙂
Have you tried Gucci No. 3? Gorgeous rose/chypre.
I haven’t tried it yet, but you’ve made me look!
you smell fab!
Thank you! 😀
By the way, I just received an email from DRMTLGY, 25% off sitewide, no discount code necessary.
me too! I am excited for their new tinted sunscreen..as soon as mine runs out I may try the new formula
I do wonder if anyone still collects them? And have wondered several times why they haven’t tried harder to update the aesthetic, especially for the newer scents like Modern Muse.
I bet folks do. I am always on the lookout for cute tchotchkes, wherever I go.
Besides, SmokeyToes always appreciates a new shiny cat toy. 😀
Ha!
For today’s project I selected Very Estee. I get nice rose and sweet florals, freesia which I am not crazy about, and if I try, some woody musk, as Fragrantica will tell you. I’m curious about the marketing for VE: there is nothing “very” about it; the name is close to Estee Super Cologne but VE could not be more unlike; and, as was pointed out by others, it uses the bottle that came out with Spellbound. (Could EL have once considered that bottle as the style for their standardized bottles?) All this is to say it is not my preferred room-filling Estee Lauder style. But today seemed a good day to dust it off, and maybe an NST’er who loves it will help me understand it better!
Feeling well after the jab yesterday.
Off work and wearing Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius.
I’m glad you’re feeling well!
Glad that you are feeling well today.
Glad to hear you avoided the side effects!
Yay for your second jab!
Yay! Enjoy the long weekend!
Good news from you!
In other fragrant news from Chez Mossy, my furry critter today is not rabbit, rabbit, but skunk, skunk! Two nights in a row, Pepe has resolved some conflict right outside my bedroom window. One night the scent woke me up, and that was with the windows closed!! Skunk scent is awe-inspiring, and the smell actually lingered just a little in the living room and the hallway until the AC went on and off a couple times. We’ve had cooler temperatures here, but it is very rainy and humid, so I left the AC on.
I love the smell of skunk but from a distance! That must be overwhelming!
I wonder if it would be possible to use the teeniest, tiniest, almost homeopathic amount of skunk scent in a perfume? Much the way civet musk, etc. is used in slightly larger quantities.
I have thought that too! And, is there some way modern chemistry could isolate the lasting power of it?!?
Ugh! When I was little, my mom had a lamb-fur coat (I know, I know), and one day while wearing it she drove near a cloud of skunk, er, essence. The smell got into the coat and took several cleanings to get out.
Funny!!!
We’ve gone through multiple skunk episodes over the years, but the one that immediately comes to mind was the first time we experienced skunk at Way Too Close range. We had skunks living under the stoop at the front door, and one sprayed under there. I woke up in the middle night and thought we had an electrical fire. My husband and I were up for at least an hour trying to track it down. We finally concluded it was just a skunk, but I don’t believe we slept well after that. It took DAYS for the smell to dissipate.
This has happened to me multiple times! The first time, I woke the kids up and evacuated them for hours until I finally figured it out. God only knows what lives under my stoop, but sometimes it stinks!
Oh no! I hope the skunk smell is now gone for good! And that the conflict is fully resolved …
YIKES!
Every so often I go bicycling in more rural areas of PDX and smell that from a distance- or when they have been run over by a car! YIKES!
Oh wow, I hope they’ve settled their differences and it won’t happen again!!
Your SOTD was Eau de Pew! ?
Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit
From a sample Isvaraya by Indult perfume house
Fragrance Notes
Patchouli, Indian plum tree, jasmine
Excited for the Euro cups games tomorrow.
Forza Azzurri
I am going to assume that’s soccer? I will not see any of it because TV (and husband) occupied with Tour de France!
Enjoy the matches tomorrow! We’re leaving on our camping trip, so I’m not sure I’ll catch any before I leave (lots of packing to do too). I’ll have to catch up when I return!
Losing all the points today. Forgot to Rabbit. And then I thought I didn’t have any EL scents, having thunked minis of Beautiful and White Linen. But it turns out (having just done a search for bottles) that I DO have a mini of Youth Dew, just didn’t realize what it was when I was staring at it this morning. I’ll have to put it on post-shower tonight.
Does anyone else dislike the name Youth Dew? Possibly a great scent, but who came up with that? Sounds like the witch from Hansel and Gretel decided she wasn’t hungry and made a distillation of the kids instead, so she could wear them.
At any rate, I thunked Penhaligon’s Gardenia this morning instead, so not all is lost!
I have always hated the name Youth Dew! And for some reason seems even creepier for the original purpose (a bath oil).
Lol, I don’t like the name either. My German stepmothers mother wore it and called it yout doo. She was mean and had squinty little green eyes. I associate it with her. The bath oil is great though.
I’m in vintage White Linen today, from a cute mini. Happy birthday, Estee! Thank you for this one, and for Youth Dew.
Stuck at home today, waiting for the car to be repaired. Hopefully we’ll have it back by the end of the day, and we won’t find any further issues.
That perfume compact is so vintagely cute! I immediately thought of my grandmother; it’s exactly something she would have had on her dresser. ?
Good luck with getting your car back, at not too high a price.
No surprises, thank goodness, and hubster said it behaved on the way home.
you must smell lovely
Hope that the care repairs didn’t cost an arm and a leg!
Ack! That should be “car repairs”. ?
Totally forgot to rabbit, dang it. It’s another cool, overcast day here, and I couldn’t be happier about it. SOTM is Paris-Deauville, and I’m reading some short stories by George Saunders — I’ve only finished one so far, but it was kind of amazing. So far, George doesn’t seem to have much respect for current parenting skills. Short fiction is great because I don’t have time to get impatient about how the story will develop.
I have extra rabbits this month so you can have some of mine. I read Tenth of December a few months ago and really liked it. I’m on the waiting list at my library for Lincoln in the Bardo, but apparently everyone in my city is too, so it will be awhile before I get it.
You smell beautiful!
Hi Vee! Thanks for the rabbits, and Tenth of December is the collection I just started. Really interesting writing style.
I’m an old crab who sides with George on the parenting skills issue.
LOL! Having never had children myself, I am equal parts “in total agreement” and “ye gods, what did his parents do to HIM?” ?
I went with EL azuree. Can’t wait to smell this bloom in the heat.
Gorgeous scent!! You smell great!
Thank you!
Hi there, scent twin!
Great minds! ?
Halfway through the year already? Holy moly.
Wearing EL Tuberose Gardenia.
It’s going too fast!!
Forgot to rabbitrabbitrabbit when I woke up, I hope life will still be allright:)
I’m in Sensuous Nude. Strangely, it was giving me very Nivea-ish wibes today.
Can you recommend a good Estee Lauder biography (in paper version)? The home reading pile is awfully thin (overcompensated by the massive pile at work…)
Hey twin!
Very late twin-hello! And sorry for missing your perfume in your post. The beauty of the rabbit compact apparently took my cognitive abilities away?
Hey, who needs cognitive abilities anyway when we smell so nice 🙂
I rabbited and can’t believe it’s July 1st already.
Trying Sketch from Maison Violet today. It’s a lovely spicy vanilla but veers into root beer territory for me.?
And your description of Sketch is why I love it. I am on the wait list for a bottle.
?? Nice! I got an emailed from them just yesterday saying everything was back in stock now but maybe it sold out quickly.
Oy vey. I got the same email. Done! Thanks.
Always happy to enable. ?
Your post has put me in the mood for a root beer popsicle!
Ohhh them Estee Lauder compacts… beautiful, especially these gorgeous rabbits, Robin!!
I always admired those EL solid compacts, I even dreamed of becoming a collector of them!! But every good one costs a small fortune…
SotD = Nishane’s Tuberoza. I won’t even repeat myself as how much I love this one…
They really are expensive, esp. the Jay Strongwater ones.
Forgot to rabbit. We had a fox yowping on our back deck last night, does that count? It might have been saying ‘rabbit rabbit rabbit’ though not in a way that would be lucky for the rabbit.
There are so many lovely EL’s… many thanks to Estee for sending interesting yet affordable scents out into the world. My scent today is Dazzling Silver, strange (The Guide describes it as smelling like a ‘sucked silver spoon’) but delightful.
I am SURE it was saying rabbit rabbit in a way that was not lucky for the rabbit!
Dazzling Silver and Dazzling Gold were both really nice.
I remembered to rabbit today because I woke up many many times during the night. Eecks!
No CP point for me though, I do not own a single EL scent, not even a sample! I was rather shocked to realize that, since many of them hold great scent memories for me: my mom wore White Linen and my aunt wore both Beautiful and Pleasures. I think I’ll wear some Clinique today, it’s the most EL-adjacent brand I own. I don’t associate many of the EL-owned brands like Malle and Le Labo with EL at all.
Ouch, sorry! Hope you sleep better tonight.
While wearing my favorite VIP (read very important perfume), I am just thinking if I love this Tuberoza because of Tuberose or a bunch of other notes in it. I had been doing great the whole last month, not even buying the smallest of samples, but I broke down and bought another Tuberose scent… But it is only a travel bottle so I don’t feel so guilty of this particular blind buy. When it arrives I will report back and share the name of it!!
Having a cup of iced coffee right now even though I am a tea drinker, thinking of Estee Lauder as a brand of perfumes. Long time ago I bought an EL solid compact, I can’t even remember what the perfume was in it as I bought it to own one of these gorgeous compacts!!
Of course most of us know and recognize Pleasures – a clean floral very popular amongst American women. That brought me back one memory:
There was this one time I fell in love with an actual EL perfume. I was walking down our main strip downtown full of boutiques and there was shop selling(!!) Bond no. 9 since early 2000s!! And a few EL items. That was all the perfume they sold among designer clothing. They had a tester bottle of then new flanker: I believe it was Estee Lauder Pleasures Delight. Ohhhh what a lovely perfume that was, for anyone with a sweet tooth. Smelled like sweet patchouli, strawberries and whipped cream. Somewhat reminded me of Coco Mademoiselle with the sweet patchouli base. I am still mad I did not buy it then and I could have kept it as my treasure to this day.
Sorry for the long post!! My last memory is that in this particular boutique I have smelled my very first niche perfumes, including Park Avenue (a Very Important Perfume for me to this day) that I bought a couple of years before realizing what niche perfume was, and not understanding why it was priced at around $180.00.
I think I spent too much on Park Avenue and I was so young I couldn’t afford any more perfumes for a while – is why I didn’t get the Pleasures Delight. Thanks for reading to whomever read this long post!!
I always read and enjoy your long posts! ?
Awwww You are so sweet, thank You so much!!
I think Pleasures Delight is the only EL Pleasures I ever liked, and that includes the original.
Yup, it was just awesome. I wish I had a bottle of it now…
I’m wearing vintage EL Tuscany Per Donna for the first time, from a mini my mom found buried in her dresser. I never tried it back when it was fresh so I can’t comment on whether it has changed, but I didn’t get any obviously oxidized notes at the opening, so I take that as a good sign. I get honeyed peach up front, and honeysuckle, LOTV, peony, and vanilla with a touch of amber in the background. If there were citrus notes in this, they have escaped the bottle. It reads like a fruity-floral, but it comes off much more complex and sophisticated than a current-day F-F. Thinking about decanting my mini into a spray bottle because I would love to be inside a cloud of this.
I see the 2015 version doesn’t include a peach note (per Fragrantica). That’s a shame because it is a beautiful aspect of the vintage formula. Can anyone comment on how they compare?
Drinking Georgia Tea Co Masala Chai cut with some Assam.
You smell marvelous!
Twins?
I don’t remember any citrus notes in TpD, but I haven’t smelled it since the 1990’s.
I tried to conjure up summer wearing Bronze Goddess Azur, but it did not work. Light rain, while biking to work and cool Temps the whole day. And again forgot to rabbit…
Heavy rain here…but sorry it got you while biking!
Forgot about the rabbits this morning while trying to take care of a few things. At work now wearing Givenchy III today.
You smell fantastic, Dawn! I love G III.
I spritzed a few sprays of Montale Roses Musk very early this morning on my way out the door to take my Dad to doctor.
I’ll put something EL later on tonight after bath ?
I hope your father is OK.
Fingers crossed that your Dad’s doctor visit was not a serious one.
I have no Estee Lauder bottles, so just continuing my random sampling with Anfas Mahaba which is prettier than the already scrubbed sample from earlier today
I only have one EL scent, Intuition. I wore it all the time back in the early 2000’s, which was when it first came out. I loved the sunny yellow packaging and the citrus notes. My bottle is from then I’m sure because I associate it with the breakup of my marriage which was happening around then. So I stopped wearing it after that and am even rather surprised I still have the bottle.
My mom wore Youth Dew on big evenings out because she said it was the only perfume my dad liked. She put it on so heavy that it was just asphyxiating. I’m afraid that has put me off of it forever!
A new month and I completely forgot to rabbit this morning. Sigh.
Looks like hajusuuri has some rabbits she can spare you, Calypso.????
I’m in Beautiful (which really is) from a vintage mini. I know I’ve said this before, this was my wedding perfume.
I remembered my rabbits when I got in the shower this morning! Today is my Friday and then we are headed Up North tomorrow. I can’t wait!? I have a 4 day weekend and it will be the longest visit I’ve had with my parents since the before times. Soooo looking forward to it.?
Have a great time!
Thanks lillyjo!?
Enjoy that well deserved family reunion!
Thanks pl67! I definitely will!?
have a great reunion
Thanks ltsg!?
Have a great visit!
Thanks Gail!?
Have an amazing trip!
Thanks sistine! I will!?
Oh, that sounds wonderful! Enjoy!
Thanks Isabella!?
Safe travels, and enjoy your visit!
Thanks Jalapeño!
I remembered my rabbits! Today I smell like cut grass and mower exhaust and sweat. Was all set for a languid afternoon at home but I’ve been unexpectedly called out to do a post-fire ecological assessment at a local park — as usual, it sounds like the fire did helpful things and the fire suppression caused all the damage. 🙁
Sorry you did not get your languid afternoon Isabella!
Tuscany per Donna, I hadn’t noticed but it has an Aramis label so it’s quite old but is still very fresh, very opulent, this is proper perfumey perfume.
Perfumey perfume is my favorite perfume category. I love that bottle too.
? yes, the bottle with the copper metal cap is very elegant, I don’t have the box which is pretty with its flowers, the lady who sold me the perfume guaranteed that I would enjoy it and she was so right, if memory serves I paid £26 for 100ml, so reasonable as it’s quite rare in the UK.
Yay for twinning. I don’t have the pretty box either. Those flowers reminds me of the album art for 10,000 Maniacs’ Our Time in Eden, which is a favorite of mine.
Oh, lucky you, having the Aramis version of Tuscany per Donna!
I’ve had this bottle for six or seven years and only looked at the label today, I will cherish it even more now.
I forgot to rabbit, oh well.
I’ll have to admit here that I don’t own a single EL scent…and actually am not sure I’ve ever smelled any of them. (I mean, I’m sure I have smelled them on other people, but have never sampled, etc.) I think maybe it’s because, coming of age in the late ’80s / early ’90s, the brand seemed kind of grandmotherly and I went for brands like Bobbi Brown & Prescriptives. Then since going down the perfume rabbit hole I’ve always been niche-ier, I guess. Hmm…maybe this will inspire me to go sniff some ELs. 🙂
Still commando…lazy holiday. But I may go with Calyx today, for something EL-adjacent.
Ditto to your entire first paragraph! I also don’t remember Estee Lauder having a huge presence in western Canada in the 90s (when I was a teenager), so it flew under my radar for a very long time, and never really flew into my interest zone.
I should give my bottle of Calyx some love.
I do love Calyx. I always wanted a bottle when I was a teenager (I was such a Prescriptives fan girl in the late 80s / very early 90s), but never bought one until about 10 years ago.
I currently don’t have any EL to wear. My favorites have been Knowing, and the never talked about Dazzling Gold. I’m wearing TF Eau de Soliel Blanc, to keep it in the family.
Has anyone been to The Cosmetic Company Store? I guess it’s an Estee Lauder outlet that carries all the brands under the umbrella.
I don’t think I have any EL either
The Cosmetic Company Store is a favorite of mine when I can get to one! All kinds of fun things there.
I’ve seen Frédéric Malle, Jo Malone and Tom Ford right beside great makeup lines like MAC and Smashbox, all very reasonably priced. I bet you and your daughter would love it!
I checked and there’s one a few hours south of me.
Any savings would be eaten up in gas, and my traffic nerves, lol.
But, I heard a YouTube person say that they were able to call and have things shipped.
Oh that’s good to know! I do recall being at one around Black Friday with an additional sale happening.
You smell great! I’m taking that travel spray along this weekend.?
Too bad EL put Knowing in a different bottle. The original was a work of art.
I know! I hate the uniform bottles.
Today is a glorious day here to celebrate anyone’s birthday – blue sky, ?, temps in the mid 70’s and a welcome respite, at least for a few days, of the constant mugginess and alternating rainstorms of the past week and a half. Finally!
Looks like I’m at least quadruplets with many of you as I celebrate in EL White Linen, a favorite of mine and one I wear a lot to celebrate Fourth of July events. Mine is vintage, from a bottle so old I don’t even remember where it came from! Only a few drops left because I only wear it at this time of year, but it still smells great: the fresh aldehydic opening captures the essence of the white sheets drying in the breeze on my clothesline today, then every flower that blooms in the spring/summer sits on a bed of oakmoss/vetiver I ❤️ so much. A perfect choice for today!
I love that scent and associate with one of my favorite teachers- it was her signature.
I can’t believe it’s July already. I’m wearing Tuberose Gardenia because the only other EL scent I have is Bronze Goddess, and I have learned after many trials that I just don’t care for it.
Dinner is something zucchini-centric…
I like Tuberose Gardenia, but I love Bronze Goddess!
I don’t care for Bronze Goddess either. I tried it recently after seeing it mentioned often on NST. I am team Terracotta.
Twins 🙂
Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit!
1) SOTD: Bronze Goddess, from a sample. Very party night at Tulum vibes- very beachy coconut sexy, but light.
2) We got RAIN! Not a lot and not as much as we needed- but still, we got a bit of rain after the blast furnace. Pulled dead plants, scorched greens and bolted & seeded plants from the garden; will be replanting today.
3) Just took a look at my Roth IRA and I think Donatella will be hearing some confessionals tomorrow….
4) but, my kitchen! Fortunately, next week the countertop arrives, and once the template and installation is done, I will just go ahead and install the sink & dishwasher myself- plumbers for jobs are all solidly booked for the month! 🙁
Smelling fab in your BG! And glad you got some rain! This week has felt like a month. Yesterday we were joking that soon we will see the locusts.
Hooray for the rain!!
OMG, even plumbers. Ugh.
With you on the kitchen. Glad you were able to get a countertop — apparently the one I want has been sitting in a container at the port for months and they’re just not unloading lots of containers. Fortunately we were able to find a plumber, but he came in and did the basics to get ready for the cabinets almost two months ago, and I’m just still waiting on the cabinet guy to do…anything, beyond installing the bottom boxes on one side. Of course, my oven is apparently also sitting in a container somewhere…ordered it almost 6 months ago, but still don’t have it.
Isn’t it fun doing a kitchen in COVID? My hat’s off to you, though, doing it yourself — pretty much every day lately I wish I weren’t clueless at all things construction. (My grandpa had a construction company, yet the idea seemed to be that the kids and grandkids would not go that direction. I hate how clueless I am.)
SotD = Clinique Wrappings
I feel Estee Lauder adjacent (in my head, of course) because the Clinique counter was next to the Estee Lauder counter. That was back in the old days, when I worked in an office, and shopped at department stores when I went to the mall on my lunch break. And maybe Clinique is a subsidiary of Estee Lauder?
Anyway, who remembers when all those makeup counters gave ah-may-zing freebies with purchases? I loved the spray bottle perfume minis, which at that time were half the size (or more!) of what we know as travel bottles today. I had a basket full of little bottles of White Linen, Knowing, Beautiful, and Youth Dew.
I enjoyed smelling them all, but they didn’t really play nicely with my skin chemistry. So I gave them to friends or left them sitting on the counter in the ladies room at work with a “take me home, please!” post-it note.
I wish I still had at least one of each to smell for old time’s sake. Though I admit I didn’t give away Youth Dew very often. I adore it because my paternal grandmother used it. Her huge bathroom and dressing area was full of the smell. I love it still.
Happy Birthday, Estee! and to everyone else who is celebrating today. 😀
Heh, I thought about wearing Wrappings. You do smell good!
Clinique is in the EL family. Or at least it was, once upon a time, when I spent a summer working in a EL returns facility. Clinique was always the easiest to spot because of the light green packaging. No idea if they are still related.
I gave Wrappings a glance this morning, but Azuree was already on deck.
For the first time EVER, I remembered to rabbit today. I’m wearing just a bit of Youth Dew.
My 9-yr-old self could not imagine why my beloved Great-Aunt Verda, whose signature scent was YD, thought a ginormous bottle of YD was a suitable high school graduation gift for my 17-yr-old sister. (Happily, one’s imagination develops over the passage of fifty years…)
I’m 99.9% certain that said sister threw that bottle in the trash decades ago without ever wearing any of it, but is now too chicken to admit the truth to me. 🙂 She knows I’d kill to have it now.
Hey there!
I bet you’re right about the trash!
The only EL I have is Pleasures, and I’m not feeling it lately. I wonder if they have 1/2 Oz bottles of Sensuous? I hate the name, but the grog is good.
I know they made a 30 ml. And I know you could get Sensuous Nude in 15 ml.
I don’t have a single EL perfume, I had a bottle of Youth Dew decades ago, and it’s always been in the back of my mind to replace it one day.
I do have several Frederic Malles, which is now part of Estee Lauder, so it’s Iris Poudre today.
Close enough 🙂
I have no Estee Lauder perfumes, so I’m in Sakura body spray from Lush. I actually left the house having forgotten to put on perfume! Good thing there’s a Lush next to the Barnes and Noble.
In cobra news: they captured the escaped cobra last night. In a bucket of glue. They made sure to state that the glue would be “safely removed”, but who are they going to convince to be the one to de-glue a cranky cobra???
Hopefully, the critter did not get any in its mouth or the surround area!
I’ve watched a zoo reality show where they had to give a venomous snake a physical exam. The vet anesthetized the snake to do that.
Hopefully they give that job to the eejit who thought it would be a good idea to keep a pet cobra…
Lol, yes.?
I’m glad the cobra was caught, yikes! So was the glue used to catch it…or was it just found in the glue?
Oh my.
SOTD = Tom Ford Lost Cherry
It’s all in the family!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CQy-OY-BKS9/?utm_medium=copy_link
And I rabbited enough times to share with whomever did not rabbit today!
Work drama continues but I am so not in the mood. If I had been doing things correctly and according to our procedures and there’s nothing different about an upcoming event, why do I need to be reminded of what I already do? Seriously. And in fact, the reminder included a reminder to do something which is wrong wrong wrong (which of course I won’t do because, well, it’s wrong). This too shall pass.
Thanks because I’m one who forgot to rabbit. And you also smell wonderful. I have Lost Cherry out on my dresser for our next coolish evening.
Thanks!
“Why do I need to be reminded of what I already do?” LOL.
We are house twins!
It was really annoying! And yes, we are house twins!
Now I’ve got “Those Were The Days” going thru my head.
LOL!
Lol! Can’t believe it didn’t come into my head. Obviously I am slipping!
It’s been busy so I haven’t been posting, but I’ve been cp compliant (for the record!) with my recent purchase of Nez Ambre A Levres and a recent gift from a lovely NST friend of DSH Muresque. There’s also been some Carthusia Mediterraneo and some Chanel Paris-Venise along the way for the super hot days we had.
I’m dreading the likely increase of wildfires in the PNW due to all the heat (I know California is already suffering). And smoke on top of heat would put me right over the edge. Also so hard on salmon (and the Orcas that depend on salmon) and the trees…Trying to stay positive, but I’m worried.
Speaking of which, I’m wearing a generous lashing on DSH Muresgue today. So far, the heat hasn’t yet made it to the Bay, so I’m in a thick sweater and have a space heater on low at my feet in my office.
I wore Ambre A Levres yesterday! Love its powderiness and amber. I love that it is the right size!
SpringPansy, are you right in the middle of the heat wave area? I have been out of town and not keeping up with comments. I think I already mentioned that you earned an Enabler Badge for my purchase of the delightful Ambre A Levres, with extra credit because I got Persepolis and was very moved by it, too.
We’re in Seattle so it WAS super hot and is much better now. Not true for a lot of other areas in the NW, however.
Yay! I’ll sport that Enabler Badge proudly. Need to check out Persepolis – I don’t know that one.
Sadly, the town in BC (Lytton) that just set all the Canadian heat records over the past three days just burned down in a wildfire. I feel so awful for them.
Rabbited. I don’t own any EL scents, so SotD is Berdoues Scorza di Sicilia.
Enjoying the local civic garden for Canada day (along with apparently everyone else). Sunny and breezy for a change, so it’s nice in the shade on the trails.
Glad you got good weather for Canada Day!
??? at midnight this morning. Figured I might not remember later on.
Had some Wickedly Wild weather this afternoon, with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and a Tornado Warning. The thunder was loud enough and frequent enough that Teflon kitty hid in the basement when she had the chance to do so. ? The worst of the weather has moved on towards the Jersey Shore now.
SOTD = EL Azuree, in the old-style bottle. The morning’s heat and humidity brought out the herbal notes in force with this today.
You smell wonderful, and in my experience will continue to as the drydown is fabulous! We had rumbles, a very dark sky and then a brief time of heavy rain this morning. Spooky kitty crouched under the kitchen table, in case she needed to head for the under-sofa, but the storm never really took off so she stayed there to keep an eye on her food dish. 😀 Also, Azuree in the fun beveled column bottle was one of my first new, retail purchases, in 2014. I saw the bottles were being standardized, and Von Maur was still selling both but original style has .30 oz. more, so I got that. I have an older vintage mini, and I have tested the newest version, and am happy to report that all are great.
You have a cat named Spooky, too? Cool!
Oh, to clarify, she was just acting “spooked” but her name is Muffin! =^v^=
You smell good and poor kitties ?⬛!
Thank you! I don’t know why Teflon freaks out about weather as an adult cat. She came thru Superstorm Sandy as an adolescent just fine.
Maybe it’s the cat version of PTSD ??♀️
Fortunately, her weather freakouts are short-lived. There’s just that burst of grooming when she decides everything is OK.
I’m glad you are safe!
Thanks lillyjo! I’m glad that I was not outside when this second band of precipitation came thru. It was a beast.
Crazy weather for you. Hope it will be better for the we.
This was a monster cold front coming thru. Temps are supposed to get down into the 70’s F tomorrow. Not sure if the weekend will be sunny or gloomy for me.
Goodness, sounds like a real rip-snorter! But, but, you have a cat named Teflon?
I am over-sharing today, because I am *such* an EL fangirl. This morning’s Very Estee faded away during some late afternoon yard work, so post-shower I changed up with vintage Cinnabar. I am here to say the current version of Cinnabar is just fine. In fact, there are faded top note issues with the vintage, though they are minor. Clinking bottles with all you Tuscany per Donna wearers. That is the EL that suits me best, while still having all the fantastic powers of Estee Super and Youth Dew, which are my other favorites. Estee is really my very favorite, but it is not quite me. Funny how that works.
You have all the old-style bottles of your ELs, I assume?
Wish I still had my old bottle of Cinnabar but it’s encouraging that the new version is ok. I probably chucked it when I moved out.
I remember I wanted to buy my friend a bottle of Tuscany per Donna because of her name (Donna, obviously). She didn’t want it so I never did get or try it.
Late to the party! Today for the CP, I found a decant of Knowing and wore that. None too happily, as it turned out. I was not stingy in my dabbing, and it was too much in the humidity (although it’s cooler now, thank goodness).
I think I will return to yesterday’s Caleche for the evening.
Sweet dreams, everyone!
Knowing is fantastic, but a little goes a long way!
Sweet dreams to you too!
Thanks, lillyjo!
Do you usually like Knowing?
Yes, ordinarily I enjoy it; just not today.
Not wearing one, but thanks for reminding me to order a bit of Knowing–my mother’s signature!
