Happy Friday and happy Global Beatles Day! We're also celebrating the life of Anthony Bourdain, who was born on this day in 1956. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that you think of as adventurous, or honor Anthony Bourdain / interpret this project in any way you like.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm off to Istanbul (and smelling delicious) with L’Artisan Parfumeur Traversée du Bosphore.
Reminder: on 7/2, Donatella will be dropping by later for the damage poll, so wear one of your recent purchases, and tell us why you bought it, and whether or not you have any regrets.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

So glad it is Friday! It has been a very busy week.
Not participating in the cp. I am wearing L’Artisan Piment Brulant. I can only smell chilli and bell peppers. Overall is a nice refreshing green scent. Good enough for me today.
Back to read comments later.
Happy Friday! ?
But chilis and bell peppers are kitchen staples (for a lot of people) and he was a chef, so you kind of did follow the CP unintentionally…
You smell lovely BTW.
Yes! Right you are this is a very good pick 😉
So true! But as his great admirer, I would have liked to pair him with a more complex scent that had reflected his worlwide fame and adventures. So I will take partial points instead! ?
Kinuknits, well done on the CP retrofit!
HA! Even though you didn’t mean to you hit the jackpot. AB would have smelled that first cut of bell pepper a million times. Perfect pick PL67.
Lol! Thank you, Portia! ???❤
Oh I love Piment Brulant. I was recently even considering buying another bottle because some online discounters offer it at a really affordable price. Personally I always smelled chili peppers and soft cocoa minus the sugar. Lovely!!
It is a very pretty scent and perfect for summer time. I have never smelled the cocoa, but still it is very refreshing and unusual. I love it! I hope you get another bottle. The price is really good at the discounters now!
Problem is there is quite a few perfumes at such a great price at discounters that I constantly have to slow myself down before buying them all…
A chili & bell pepper scent sounds really good, especially if the perfumer got the notes close to the real thing.
Have you tried Dame Perfumery’s Chilehead? I think it’s dynamite. I can send you a few ml if you’d like to try it! Just let me know.
I haven’t tried Chilehead! Thanks for the offer.
Do I have your email address?
I’m not sure – it’s payne underscore c m in the world of yahoo.
Piment Brulant undeniably has this specific “L’Artisan DNA”. You know what I mean when You can just tell when a perfume came from a specific perfume house? Actually it does smell a tad sweet but in a very toned way. It has some warmth from the chilli pepper and softness from that dark chocolate/pure cocoa note. It is so lovely though.
Not participating twins! If we ever do the song match cp again, you can match your sotd to a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song! ( hint to Robin) lol
Lol! Sounds good to me! ??
Happy Friday everyone! We are having a public holiday to celebrate midsummer. I am wearing Chameleon by Zoologist. I have been on a tropical kick lately and my 4-year old asked me to wear ”the lizard perfume” so why not:)
It is not the most obvious choice for today’s project as it is very ”safe” scent in my opinion and it does not make me think of faraway tropical islands. It actually takes me to organic chemistry lab course during my first year in uni when we did some work with esters and ketones. Love the smell, though.
To avoid minus points, I think the chameleon in the bottle is wearing the kind of shirt as the late Mr Bourdain quite often did. The telly is not the same without him. I hope he found peace.
The lizard perfume, perfect! Points for the shirt, why not.
Good morning and TGIF!!
Today I am channeling the gourmet and the unusual in Womanity, also, because, caviar.
I am so looking forward to the weekend. I will be doing absolutely nothing and loving it. 😀
Oh, good thinking!
I figured I might as well wear something I bought on a trip, so: in 2017 we were in Brussels, among numerous other places, and there’s a fantastic little parfumerie called Parfum d’Ambre, where I bought a bottle of Molinard Habanita EDP, the best reformulation I have ever smelled — it doesn’t smell vintage, exactly, but it’s complex and old-fashioned in the best possible way, little curlicues of incense smoke and a ton of powder (it’s the powderiest scent I know), and roses and tobacco*, and a lot of other things besides, just glorious.
*Habanita was originally created as a perfume *for* tobacco: as a liquid you could trace onto a cigarette with the stopper’s glass rod or as sachets you could tuck into a cigarette case.
Sounds lovely. Souvenirs like that are the best.
Is it the one in the black square bottle with rubbery cap? It sounds beautiful! Perfumes are great souvenirs!
That’s the one. I never owned the original Habanita but I smelled it more than once: the 2012 EDP revision is an excellent reinvention of the scent, hewing close to the idea of the original without trying to reproduce it exactly, which is an impossibility these days.
Fragrances are great souvenirs because every time you wear them the trip comes rushing back — there’s nothing like the sense of smell to trigger memories.
I have the red bottle for the 100th year anniversary.
I am mildly envious! That’s a fantastic bottle.
Thank you. It’s a beautiful oxygen-saturated blood red! ?
I din’t know it was originally FOR tobacco–that’s really interesting. A much nicer take on the “strawberry parfait” and “pina colada” sweet fruity scents in all the e-cigs.
I agree with everything you’ve said about Habanita. I have a small bottle of the parfum I bought in 2003 on my one and only trip to France and, oh, the memories it brings whenever I wear it!
Ohhh, incense, smoke, and powder? How lovely!
Morning all. SotD is Hermes Epice Marine which I hope fits the CP – references to cooking and travel in an unusual combo. This is one I haven’t figured out how to layer yet and would love to hear what to try if someone has…
Oh, that seems perfect. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it!
It was the only thing in my collection that came to mind as a possible match to the theme.
that is a perfect pairing for today! I have a sample of Epice Marine that I will revisit. Last time I wore it I found it odd and almost disturbing, yet at the same time I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist for more. 😉
I know what you mean… it’s not my favorite, but I’m constantly sniffing my wrist when I do wear it, lol.
It comes across very peat heavy whiskey on me with a touch of peppery sea breeze.
Chose Neroli Portfino – not an adventurous fragrance, exactly, but one I would like to wear while on an adventure, preferably at a nice but not bougie restaurant on the coast of Italy somewhere. But I’m not picky. ?
Ha, right now I would take a McDonald’s on the coast of Italy somewhere…at least I would be on vacation!
It’s McDonald’s 50th anniversary in Australia!
Ha, I would take that too!
I just grabbed the first thing that came to hand, which is Timbuktu. I don’t believe AB ever visited there, but I bet he would have eventually.
Yes, he would have! Plus you smell great. (And, we are house & perfumer twins.)
Friday!
Payday!
OJ Rose Ta’if again today since it smelled SO DAMN GOOD on my bathrobe from yesterday.
Happy payday?! Now you made wonder where I stashed my Ta’if travelspray. It is indeed wonderful and it lingers beautifully on fabric.
The remains of Ta’if are what converted me to Ta’if 🙂
Living in Ta’if got me interested. Much love for it here got me to buy a bottle. Ta’if, much like Bukhara, do not smell like the fragrances they are named for.
However, I love them both!
🙂
Happy Friday! Working weekends as well right now so Friday is not the same feels as it typically has been. I do try to take half a day on Sat. or Sunday but just going to be lots of work from now until the end of the year.
SOTD: Chanel Venise body lotion.. potent stuff!
That’s good and bad at the same time! I hope you find time for yourself too. It’s open season for corporate jet usage although that is so contrary to what is being “preached”. ??♀️
Yeesh, it sounds like you are up to your eyeballs in work.
Essential Parfums Bois Imperial
notes:
Basil and patchouli and some other woods
Things are busy with the little ones so I haven’t had much time to post.
Late reply, but nice to see you and hope you are enjoying your time with the children!
After largely ignoring the brand since the late 90s, I’m in Issey Miyake’s Or Encens. A friend said, “B!tch, you smell riiiich! What is THAT?!” Long discontinued, I think it was a Middle East exclusive which eventually trickled into the gray market, where I happily found it. It smells like its name (gold incense) and is truly wonderful. Yes, I did what any reasonable person would do when I eventually got my hands on it: I bought 3 bottles. 🙂
That’s precisely what I would do! 😀
Hi, I haven’t seen you here for a while – or did I just miss your posts? Anyway, nice to see you!
And ♥ “what any reasonable person would do”!!
Awwww, thank you. I haven’t posted much but I lurk on NST quite a bit, mostly to read!
Smart move to grab those bottles when you did! Perfume treasures tend to be unpredictable when and where they show up.
Happy Friday! I’m in Eau de Magnolia, largely because I thought of it last night and haven’t worn it in a while, but I’m sure Mr. Bourdain loved Louisiana food, right? Plus, lemons.
I’ll be working a partial day in the actual *office* today, for the first time in 15 months, and am not loving all the effort it took to get ready for the day and pack lunches and all this morning. Only doing it because the office is halfway between home and my son’s summer camp, which is an hour’s drive north, so looking to save some commute time. Foggy and dark without and within and hoping the Eau de Magnolia will work some uplifting and cheering magic!
You smell magnificent.
My Anthony Bourdain scent is Bee. Last night we had some people over and I was using a lot honey in my cooking. I found myself humming a song from my childhood–Judy Collins’ “Cook with Honey.” So in my hat off to Bourdain, I’m in Bee—and daydreaming about cooking with honey some more.
Hi house twin! There are several of us in Zoologist for the CP today.
And I wore it yesterday, with Bat, which I thought was very creative, but no one appreciated it! Soil, damp caves, rotting fruit…. Adventure personified!
I suppose one cannot trademark “Bee”. There’s one by Ellis Brooklyn.
You smell great!
Happy Friday!
Scent: Philosykos, because fig is my current jam. Works for the CP.
My favorite fig scent. You schmell wonderful!
I chose Keep Glazed by House of Oud, because although I believe Anthony Bourdain preferred savory to sweet, I remember an episode of No Reservations where he went wild over a maple bacon donut. This doesn’t have maple or bacon notes, but it does smell like the fanciest, most expensive donut you could imagine.
I really miss him.
No Reservations was my favorite of Bourdain’s shows.
Ohhhh I want to smell Keep Glazed so much!! Your description got me even more excited: “like the most expensive donut”. Yum!!
Today’s sample from a country I’d like to have an adventure in is Savitri from Parfums Prissana (Thailand) which is so far a bright opening over creamy, silky champaca.
OOOHHH Sounds perfect.
Happy Friday everyone! My SOTD is J.Crew No. 57 Arquiste, with notes of vanilla, whiskey, and cinnamon. Anthony B. was a fan of whiskey and bourbon, I think he’d appreciate this one. 🙂
This sounds wonderful. I bet discontinued?
I believe it is! I got my bottle deeply discounted. I don’t normally like cinnamon in a scent but it works well here.
I’m in CdG Jaisalmer which I find adventurous. I liked Anthony Bourdain and Parts Unknown, but I have to say I was disappointed in the one he did about Seattle. He did show some good things, but there was a lot of mention of the number of serial killers we’ve had. He also featured a virtual reality porn place. Seriously? That’s what you want to talk about when we have all this incredible food and beauty?
Anthony B. could be wildly unpredictable. His episode highlighting his visit to the Philippines and West Virginia was amazing, and then that Seattle episode was bewildering…
My brother was into AB’s food episodes and wherever he happens to be on vacation that AB highlighted, he wants to experience the exact menu. I believe he, my SIL and my sister did the Singapore episode, even down to paying ridiculous amounts for a plates that would not satisfy a child. I didn’t go, but then again, I am picky about being food adventurous which really makes me NOT adventurous. A tip they found out afterwards was to get the menu inspired by AB.
I really want to visit Singapore, so many places on my travel list… With my health issues, being a foodie is wildly inconvenient.
I hope in my next life to have a robust digestive system.
I’m in Koala for the CP. I associate AB with travel as much as food, and Australia is on my vacation wish list.
I get lots of eucalyptus – fresh, green, and dewy, with a bit of menthol. After about an hour, the menthol faded and a light dust of fresh powder has settled. I don’t get wood in the traditional sense, but I do get green bamboo. I also get a spicy note in the background, but again, fresh green spicy – like carnation, not dry brown spices. The only dry/brownish note I get is some vetiver. This strikes me as a friendly, young dad scent.
Drinking Clipper Ship Earl Gray.
Destination twin!
I think I have mentioned on here before that on one trip to Australia, in 2017, I went with friends to a wildlife park where you could pay a small fee and HOLD a koala. It was so fun! They were tame ones, raised from birth by humans, and quite placid. VERY heavy, a lot heavier than even a large cat. SOFT fur and they had a definite sweet eucalyptus smell!
That sounds amazing! Please tell me they hugged you when you held them. ❤️
I did this too when in Australia, and yes they do! They are purely in it for the eucalyptus that the handlers feed them to encourage transfering into people’s arms, but I’ll accept bought love. I got to pet quokkas at the Adelaide Zoo as well and died of happiness.
Oh, that would be a wonderful experience! I think their ears probably feel velvety, don’t you think??
That sounds good! But Zoologist perfumes are notoriously short lived on me. I get maybe 4 hours max.
I got about 6 hours; about 4 hours in the sandalwood and vetiver had taken over and the green notes were gone, and that was the end of the development, but I’m impressed with how distinct each phase was
Sampling Azzaro Wanted Girl which I stumbled upon pouring over Fragrantica reviews late into the night (as one does) …notes are ginger blossom, orange blossom, pink pepper, pomegranate, datura, dulce de leche, Haitian vetiver, tonka and patchouli essence.
I tried earlier this week and it starts off w/ strong orange blossom and general fruitchouli vibes (I say that w/ love…I like fruitchoulis) but then changes considerably over time and the dulce de leche comes out…definitely not linear for me…I quite enjoy when perfumes morph throughout the day.
My sister had her first chemo treatment earlier this week and is feeling nauseous and tired which is to be expected. 🙁 They have prescribed a new med for the nauseous and that is helping. She had a small mass found on the pancreas and had a whipple procedure to remove it the beginning of May which was successful but they want her to do chemotherapy as well. She will have 12 treatments every other week for 24 weeks. I am hoping the nauseous gets better and she is able to eat more. My sister is petite and normally weighs about 115 lbs but is down to around 100 now…wish I could give her 10 or 15 from my reserves.? My brother-in-law is wonderful and taking good care of her…both of his parents have passed already and they both had cancer and chemo too so this obviously brings up lots of memories and emotions for him too…people are so strong and amazing.♥️
Hugs to you, She-Ra. My next door neighbor had radiation therapy for i don’t know how many weeks and they’ve also pre-scheduled surgery. Said surgery occurred yesterday.
I hope she will cope better. Smaller meals but often are great for weight gain
I hope your sister’s treatment becomes less taxing over time. I can only imagine how her husband must be feeling right now. Sending healing vibes to her and huge hugs to all of you!!!
I hope her nausea resolves too, She-ra. Adding more hugs.
Sending hugs and well wishes during this trying time. I hope your sister feels better soon!
https://nutrition.abbott/au/product/ensure-plus-tetra
Hi She-ra. I’m really sorry to hear your sister is going through chemo nausea. Must be awful. i have lost about 20kg since getting cancer and while having radiotherapy I was suffering from malnutrition due to vomiting etc. My specialist prescribed me with a product called Ensure Plus..it’s high calorie drink (300 calories in 150ml drink) with minerals and vitamins. I couldn’t keep down food but I could manage this stuff which stabilised weight loss a bit ( it gave me 900 calories a day) plus helped with potassium and sodium deficiencies. Your sister might be able to tolerate it too? I had vanilla…tastes like custard. You can probably find it in USA quite easily, or something similar. All the best.
Co-sign! Chocolate (Milk or Dark)! I think the only issue may be sugar content … although I never looked for them for a loved one, maybe there’s a sugarless, low-sugar version.
Hope you’re doing well, Kanuka.
Good to see you, Kanuka!
Yes that product is in the USA, in fact my brother worked at a company in Michigan that made it! He used to work in their lab as a quality control guy, which meant (partly) that he had to grow botulism (all dressed in complete protective gear) since they had to keep making sure that their testing agents were working. He always said that chocolate is the best. I’m glad to hear that it was of some help to you. How are you now, Kanuka?
Thanks so much, Kanuka…just sent her the link. Hope you are doing well…sending love and light from San Diego…please send us some rain in return.♥️
I wish all the best for your sister. This sounds like a really hard time for your whole family, and your NST friends are cheering you on!
Hugs to you and your sister. Chemo is a bear to deal with, both for the patient and their loved ones.
I’m very sorry to hear about this, and especially sorry that your brother-in-law is going through it once again. Golly. It’s awful about the weight loss too. I just was listening to an NPR program on medical marijuana and the many uses for it, and the complexity of the cannabis plant’s chemistry. One use is for cancer treatment-caused nausea. Perhaps worth exploring? The show was basically saying that med students get little education on this but should get more because this is a potent drug with many (safe, non-hallucinogenic) uses.
Sending a big hug your way and continued good wishes for your sister’s recovery. ?
So much difficulty, I am sorry you all are experiencing this. I hope she finds resolution for the nausea. I’ve had good luck with Scopolamine transdermal patch to treat nausea.
I’m in Calligraphy Saffron, because it’s got saffron in it, because it works so well for me, and because I imagine that AB would have smelled marvelous in this scent.
Happy Friday, everybody!
I do love saffron! One of my favorite notes in perfumery, mostly because of L’ Artisan’s Safran Troublant.
yes, that’s a good one.
I really like this, but its too warm for it now
I love that one! I think I got it from you!
YAY! Friday! Well Saturday here already. Hope your weekends are fun and fab.
I’m trying a new to me scent today for the adventure. It’s boozy and foody for extra AB chef points. PLUS it’s called Angel’s Share for AB who has gone on to get his wings (or whatever)
So Angel’s Share by Kilian.
Nice choice! That bottle even looks boozy!
Yeah, it’s glam cut glass. So cool
You smell fabulicious!
Heya Hajusuuri,
I just woke up and it’s powering away like brand new. WOW! Longevity +++
Angel’s Share is a great cold weather perfume. Too warm to wear it where I am at right now.
Yeah, we are in the middle of our winter here. Not very cold but cold for us in Sydney. It’s 100% perfect.
Considering that scent is supposed to represent cognac it’s a perfect choice. Love the bottle design for it… you smell lovely.
Thanks Kinuknits, love a boozy gourmand. You like the genre?
I appreciate it, but it doesn’t always translate well on my skin… which is a shame.
Happy Friday Everyone!!
Beautiful image, Robin!! Going sideways with the CP today and celebrating this cozy, rainy day with Masque Milano’s Tango. To me not adventurous at all. Lovely black pepper sharpness with “puffy’ amber. Lovely and I love that I can smell wafts of this beauty.
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Bee’s Bliss
I am claiming CP points because honey honey seems to be a foodie food ingredient although I am not at all familiar with AB’s adventures or cheffing skills.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CQjMsASBI8l/?utm_medium=copy_link
In other news, I passed by a building with a giant Kaws, although it could be a faux Kaws? I do love these chance encounters!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CQjOV0zBn0i/?utm_medium=copy_link
Now, back to regular work programming!
Mmm, yummy! You smell fantastic!
Thank you!
Love those KAWS creatures. One even travelled to Oz a few years ago and I was lucky enough to see it in real life. Sadly it wasn’t displayed to such good advantage as your beautiful peachy one.
It was unusual to see it there but you are so right that the peachy hue is very attractive.
That Kaws critter reminds me of the art on the large bottle for Pharrell’s GIRL perfume.
It does…and I know where my travel spray bottle is and will do a comparison!
Vintage Amazone today, so at least the name is adventourous… no idea, of AB would have liked it.
I have several perfumes named after places (I’m a sucker for those!) so I chose the one that’s furthest from my current location – North Bondi, by Ouai. It’s not an adventurous scent by any means (unless you feel smelling like leave in conditioner is an adventure), but it’s a very pleasant scent. I have no idea if it smells like an Australian beach, but I’m going to pretend I’m on one.
I smelled that in Ulta, and it’s really nice!
LADDM, which is probably my most adventurous fragrance. Just tiny drops left in my mini. This one really evaporated.
My husband and I were (are) big fans of Parts Unknown. As a person who hates to fly and is an extremely picky eater, it was fun to vicariously visit places I know I will never see in person, and watch him eat anything they put in front of him.
Great choice!
Oy! I just described myself as a picky-eater adventurous which means I am not adventurous ?.
Aw, that bites your LAdDM mini evaporated!
Friday!
1) Homemade iced coffee and SOTD is Cap Neroli of course. It’s my summer jam, and AB would have appreciated the orange/neroli with mint herbally goodness. For an eau de toilette this seems to last all day on me!
2) Watered and covered the tender plants- a super blast of heat (110F, 42C) is coming. Normally we are in the 70-75F/23-25C weather at this time of year. Already Mt St Helens (Lu’witt) and Mt Hood (Wy’east) are starting to lose the snowpack- usually you can ski until mid July. Oy Vey!
You need to go where Deva and T-Rex went for the snow!
Well, I meant to wear Philosykos after seeing TeaInTheGarden’s post, but the hand went straight to Cristalle EDT so that’s my scent of the moment. Spent the morning setting up the patio umbrella and moving the pots into the shade because our weather is supposed to be ridiculously, and I mean RIDICULOUSLY, hot for the next several days. 113 on Sunday. Here. In Portland. How can that BE?
Eeek! Someone gave me a surprise decant of Cristalle which I must wear!
Well, not to steal a phrase or anything, but … “doooo eeeet”. ?
Haha!
That heat is truly shocking, especially for the Pacific Northwest. You have my sympathy. My young cousin in Michigan posted a weather forecast for a week for her area, and said “Those Sunday temperatures are a killer”, and when I looked, it said High Sunday of 150! Now that was certainly a mistake and made me laugh. Just imagine!
Oh my god, I HOPE it was a typo — yike!
I’m following PriscillaE in Timbuktu today. Adventurously far, and also I can picture Bourdain wearing this vetiver scent.
Going with the travelling-with-perfume/souvenir them in Ivoire. I bought it at the TK Maxx in Brighton a several years ago. Missing friends and family in England…
I’m wearing Azemour today. AB loved Morocco (though not as much as Vietnam) and I think he would appreciate the green citrus. Plus, it’s too hot here already for anything heavier.
Are there any Vietnam-themed or -related perfumes?
I was thinking of rice or lemongrass notes, but I don’t have any in my cabinet.
Interesting read….
https://www.google.com/amp/whygoindochina.com/perfumes-inspired-vietnam/amp/
Kinuknits!! Thank You for this amazing link, that’s right Tam Dao and Do Son were inspired by Vietnam but now I could learn about The Scents of Vietnam thanks to Your read!!
You are welcome. I really like the artwork on the Y25 bottles.
Pomegranate Noir and green tea. Works very well together
Parfum d’Empire Osmanthus Interdite for me. A trip to Japan without leaving home.
Great adventures await!
Still in beautiful and picturesque Colmar, enjoying myself immensely just pottering about. I wore Grandiflora Magnolia Michel during the day which is ok and post shower have put on some Queen of the Night which I like much better.
My Minitrip has been a huge success, I love France and Alsace is one of my favourite regions there.
I love Alsace too, so beautiful. I am glad you are having a nice break.
(Coincidentally I think Anthony Bourdain died in Alsace ( Kayserberg) . I have never seen him on tv so went to wikipedia for more info.)
Kanuka!!! So glad to see you here, hope you are well.
There were loads of daffodils in bloom in Luxemburg this spring and they all reminded me of you.
Alsatian wines!
They are good, my favourite being Gewürztraminer.
Cold and murky here, and expecting snow next week . I have been taking plesure in watching some sparrows build a nest under the eaves of our corrugated iron roof ( I watch from my lounging position on the couch). One male must have discovered that ournear neighbours have hens as he keeps turning up with the most glorious red-golden downy hen feathers in his beak (almost as big as him) . It bodes well for his nest.
Perfume disaster that fits the CP . I blind bought a scented candle that was meant to smell of campfires, amber and whisky but, in fact, smells of canned tomato soup. Makes the house smell like a hospital ward at dinner time. And it lasts for ever. Ba ha.
All good here: finished radiotherapy, had surgery which removed my tumour (the size of a small baby apparently) , have a 600ml wound drain to drag around as a fashion accessory. Now talk of chemotherapy…but we’ll see. Not sure I’m keen.
Missed you all but thanks so much for the emails (Oakland and Gaynor) and well wishes.
Roll on Spring!!!!
Kanuka, it’s so good to have you back here again. I hope you lie on the couch and recover, watch the birdies, and dump the candle in the trash. Spring is coming.
So good to hear from you, and those dear sparrows sound fun to watch. How a campfire becomes tomato soup is a mystery.
Best wishes!
Being the impulsive person that I am I had not scrolled down far enough to read this. Glad you are faring as well as may be expected. Even gladder that you are sporting fashion accessories these days…
Glad to see you here, Kanuka. Wishing you the best! Spring is almost knocking on the door!
Kanuka, so happy to see you here. I was just thinking of you today. Best wishes for a continuing recovery.
Very pleased to see you posting Kanuka, and to hear of your progress! And “ugh” to your tomato-soup candle. I never could stand Campbell’s Tomato Soup at all.
Oh wow, that’s a big tumor. I’m glad you have some time now to rest and recuperate and watch the birds. Thinking of you.
How lovely to see you here! That all sounds like progress, but a very difficult time. Wishing you all the best for everything.
That candle does not sound good 🙂 Trying to drown it out with other scents may or may not be a good idea…
So happy to see your post and that you are feeling better! Yay for finishing radiotherapy and boo for tomato soup candles!
Great to hear from you! Sending a big hug ? your way and continued good wishes for your recovery.
Snow!❤
It’s so nice to see your post and that you are recuperating. How lovely to be able to watch the birds do their thing.
We have a saskatoon bush so it’s been fun to watch the robins wait for the berries to ripen. They have to balance themselves as the branches sway back and forth while they select the perfect berry.
Sending you continued good wishes.
Congrats on finishing radiotherapy and a successful surgery! That candle sounds disastrous but way to swing it for CP points ?
HA on the candle, but so nice to see you Kanuka! Hope the worst of your treatment is behind you.
Ginger Piccante from a sample I brought in my travels. Not adventurous at all, but certainly evokes other places besides where I am.
Dinner with one of my oldest best friends last night. We were in each other’s weddings. Way too short a visit.
My recuperating friend had painful PT today, trying to avoid scar tissue development. She’s encouraged to use a walker so she can try to walk straight instead of favoring the knee that had surgery. Long road ahead.
I wish your friend well!
Wearing Sel de Vetiver. I miss AB, and all those who we lost too soon. (Both famous and regular folks.). Enjoying a beautiful Friday, and I even have plans tonight! Carpe diem, and enjoy life while we’ve got it!
Took your advice and had a lovely dinner out last night, now I’m a pound heavier so blaming you 😉
I totally get an enabler pin for that! 🙂
Last of the gorgeous early summer weather here. So I took advantage of it and went grocery shopping at Wegman’s this afternoon. There was a big sign outside of it stating that people who were fully vaxxed did not have to wear masks, unless local rulings states otherwise.
Me, I will continue to wear a mask in retail situations for as long as I can even though I had my second shot at the end of April. The delta variant is making that decision an easy one.
SOTD = Niki de Saint Phalle, from the decant stash. I will have to compare my decant to the bottle I picked up a while ago. Something about it just seems right as an honorific to Anthony Bourdain.
I’m with you on wearing a mask during those retail situations. I do the same. Still avoiding indoor events and indoor events as much as possible.
I actually don’t recall what Niki de Saint Phalle smells like but I have a greenish black iridescent bottle somewhere around here.
I’ve begun loosening up my pandemic-induced precautions which were more intense than my pre-pandemic germaphobia. First, maskless at Wegmans almost a month ago, then Whole Foods, Home Goods and the mall (not crowded), the wedding this past Sunday and actually, I stopped wiping down my groceries last Saturday. I say I was emboldened by my commute into NYC (still masked per regulations and masked while walking to and from the office and anytime I am outside, by choice). I still let my mail stew for a day or so. I also don’t leave home without a mask because I will not hesitate to wear it when I feel like I need to or when stores have signs that say mask required.
NdSP is a dry green chypre. It reminds me of perfumes like Silences, or Soivohle’s Green Oakmoss. I’m still getting wafts of it as I type.
Last weekend I ate indoors in a restaurant for the first time since 2019. It felt rather surreal… they required patrons to wear a mask when entering the establishment. It wasn’t crowded. Patrons were seated at least 6 feet away from other groups, and they didn’t have the buffet as an option.
As is their right I suppose for a privately-owned company. The Korean store I go to also still requires mask-wearing so I comply.
I figure it’s going to be a while before I find myself at a sit down restaurant again.
All of our restrictions were lifted this week. About half of retail stores still require that employees be masked, mine included. I would say about 30% of customers are still wearing masks.
IIRC, New Jersey lifted a bunch of restrictions this month. I haven’t been able to keep track of everything, though.
I am still wearing a mask when inside retail, and I still won’t eat inside a restaurant. Going to be a pain this summer since my husband will probably just eat out without me when it’s too hot to sit outside 🙂
My SOTD is L’Artisan Havana Vanille, the original version/name, which I remember buying in 2011. I still have about half the bottle left. It is rich and boozy and foodie/gourmand, with immortelle, vanilla of course, fruits, licorice (I can smell it!), smoke, plus RUM, very boozy. Smells like a really interesting, suave, well-traveled, and handsome man. That’s my tribute to AB.
Oh, I like that! And nearly every picture of Bourdain eating includes booze 🙂
I’m reading this at my Saturday morning hair appointment, so even later than my usual NST breakfast reading. I’m interpreting adventurous as travel, and wearing an impulse purchase from Paris two years ago. The perfume is a nice jammy rose, nothing adventurous in itself, from a brand called Ausmane. I’ve never found out much about it.
Wearing Timbuktu, a faraway place and my strangest perfume.
I recently got a mini of Timbuktu. I haven’t given it a wear yet.
It took me a while to appreciate it, it is so different from anything else, give it time.
Timbuktu is the only full bottle I have from L’Artisan.
Good choice, it is probably l’Artisan’s most distintive perfume.
I adore Timbuktu. It’s one of my personal standard comfort scents, so warm and dry and soothing…
It is so original, I like that it’s a comfort perfume for you.
St. Clair Scents’ Pandora! It was very adventurous to open that forbidden box. What a gorgeous fragrance!
Too many perfumes, so little time! I couldn’t decide between Pandora and Eve so I did what a normal person (see someone else’s comment above ?) would do – buy them both!
???
I did like both but really loved Eve, and wear it a lot.
You guys! I just got my DSH samples. The Opium is the Opium of my memories! There is another called aroma d Egypt that is looking like a winner. I got a third one, and they put in two more samples.
Ah! That might make picking out samples from DSH a little easier. The selection is ginormous!!
It’s crazy. This is the first time I liked everything. I think I will settle for the Opium cream and a 10 ml bottle of Onycha. More expensive that my cheap butt likes, but this stuff is the perfect incense smell I’ve been looking for. The Egypt one doesn’t come in the size I want, but it’s oh so good.
Wearing AG Eau du Sud and thinking that AB might have sported such an Eau – something light enough that it didn’t compete with his wild food and travel choices and substantive enough that it made a statement, which he always did.
A chore-filled day for me today, lost track of the time and even what day it was! But I did participate in the cp: my ‘adventurous’ scent is the long d/c C&E Sonoma Valley. You may wonder why a fragrance whose notes include fig, mimosa, nectarine, and grape leaves would be considered ‘adventurous’? Because it reminds me of one of the most surreal and adventurous experiences of my life: floating above the California wine country, the Napa Sonoma Valley, in a hot air balloon on a crisp fall morning. That incredible sense of being one with the universe is one I’ll never forget, and this soft, green, fruity-floral fragrance both echoes the scents of the valley and re-immerses me in that soul-stirring experience each time I wear it.
Happy weekend to all!
That hot air balloon ride sounds magical!
Hey, guess where I live? 🙂 We were just talking about how we haven’t seen a hot air balloom go by in a while, but it’s been quite windy lately so probably not good ballooning conditions. Your description of your ride sounds amazing — I’ll have to give it a whirl sometime.
Oh what a beautiful memory! Thank you for sharing!
Sotd is Hermes EdM Bleu. I’ve been trying my different EdM the last few days, and should finally admit that they don’t work for me.
You guys, it has been raining here all week. It’s going to continue through next week. The next time I start wishing for rain, please someone virtually slap me upside my silly head!
Let’s trade your rain for the heat wave we will be facing here starting tomorrow! ??
It will be disgusting! Stay cool!
Thank you! It is going to be a very tough week. You too stay cool!
You will thank the rain later on.
The only EDM that didn’t work for me was the Ombre although I haven’t given up!
Hope that your rain moves out soon to somewhere that it will be appreciated.
And since you asked about Midsummer’s Day: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer
I am far too late to the game but enjoyed reading everyone’s comments!
Went with Kiehl’s Original Musk for most of today, not remotely adventurous – but switched to my bespoke Singaporean orchid perfume this evening.
That was a solo adventure I booked for myself last time I was there, and you blind-smell all the scent extracts which made it very exciting!
Wow, that sounds amazing!!
Meant to say this at the end of last week when the article first appeared – I was a big fan of Anthony Bourdain, he was a judge on a short-lived cooking programme here in the UK with Nigella Lawson & a French chef whose name escapes me (Mr Bourdain was highly entertaining!), & we also got his travel/foodie programme on one of our less well known TV channels & I specifically remember him at a restaurant called St John in London with the owner Fergus Henderson, who pioneered ‘nose to tail’ eating here in the UK – they were great friends & it was a joy to watch. Anthony Bourdain seemed to be a lovely man, his death was a shock to people here & he is still much missed by foodies on this side of the pond.
