It's Almost-Friday and World Bicycle Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Berdoues Assam of India, which a kind reader sent me after I kept going on about the bottle — elephants! And the fragrance, while not genius, is a great summer citrus-tea refresher, perfect for pretending you're not facing a day of thunderstorms.
Reminder: on 6/4 we're doing With A Little Help from My Friends...wear a perfume that you received from someone else, either here at Now Smell This or elsewhere, or that you never would have tried if someone else hadn't recommended it, or worn it, or reviewed it. Adapted from a suggestion by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Okay, so I keep looking at the scent of the day posts, reading for three minutes, and getting distracted by something. Never actually posting. That’s my world right now! ?
I’m in Guerlain Habit Rouge Dress Code, thanks to hajusuuri. If I remember right, this is very hard to find, but she managed to find it and split it with us. Nice spicy citrus, and totally unisex. Thank you, hajusuuri!
Hajusuuri gets many enabler pins
Yes, and probably tiara and pendant sets as well.
Pins, necklaces, tiaras and brocaded robes of state! Hajusuuri is the Queen of Fragrance Enablers!
Exactly. It’s a wonder she can stand up. ?
If enabler pins were mother of pearl Hajusuuri would be the Pearly Queen…
So true!!
Possibly a lifetime achievement award? 🙂
And induction into the Hall of Fame.
You all are too funny. I have a neck crick trying to hold my head from falling off with the weight of the ? ?
Pix of your corgis plz?
Chortle
LOL!
I love todays photo Robin.
Hollister Crystal Shores body mist
Notes are vanilla Cream and driftwood
A gift from a friend of mine one year for Christmas
Anyone else dragging? two cappuccinos this morning
Totally dragging here, I think it’s the weather. I am still on tea but might need a latte before it’s all over 🙂
Its the weather for sure..and maybe not sleeping well.
I am dragging big time! On my third cup of coffee….
I am with you..eyeing my espresso machine for another cuppa
Definitely dragging! I got up and fell back to sleep in my chair while my coffee got cold. Drank 2 cups (usually have 1) and still can’t wake up.
I feel ya…almost had to have hubby pull me out of bed this morning
Definitely dragging. And the rain isn’t helping!
I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue, from a sample sent to me by Tulipani in a swap. I would not have known about LHB, or the frags I sent in that swap, if not for other posters on NST. So it is only thru the multiple direct and indirect help of NST friends that this juice is on my wrists this morning! I get IRIS up front, amber and a little spice behind it, then a symphony of other florals supporting it. This comes off as a warm iris to my nose, whereas I wore Infusion d’Iris last night (also from Tulipani) and that was a cooler, almost metallic, iris to me.
Drinking a house blend of fruity and green teas which are not my favorites on their own, but are delicious together (so they are helping each other — get it? Cheesy, but I’ll still take an extra CP point). 🙂
Cheesy definitely deserves another point!
I love LHB!
Yay! Note twinning with you today, and glad to hear you’re enjoying the iris scents.
Yay for twins! This means I gone from never having twinned to twinning two days in a row! 🙂
Definitely enjoying the Iris scents, thank you for them. But before I go on too much of an Iris tangent, I’m recommitting to the Forest&Juniper/Cypress hunt starting next week.
I’m in Jacques Fath Pour l’Homme, sandalwood and tobacco and vanilla with a drop of rose. It’s really more of a cool-weather scent but I don’t care: it’s wonderful.
Oh my – that sounds lovely.
In Armani Prive Iris Celadon, thanks to Hajusuuri. Beautiful and perfect for the cool, rainy day today.
Happy almost Friday! ?
H strikes again!
?
You smell great!
Thank you! ?
World bicycle day!! I almost spelled bycicle – trying to remember the correct spelling for Dyptique 🙂
What a coincidence on my part about the bicycle day since right now I am waiting outside a bike shop so they can install a rack on the back of mine so I can put a baby seat on my bicycle for my 2 year old.
I ADORE Assam of India name, idea and art on the bottle. I might order a 40ml if available. As I said I might because I also want that travel spray of “the time” and some new addition to my collecting Aqua Allegorias. But right now I got other things I am spending my money on first such as that baby seat for my bike and supplies for my tropical fish tank. And I had been spending around $200 every month on perfumes: expensive ones, discounted ones, decants, travel sprays etc. Right now I am waiting for an expensive bottle of perfume coming in the mail Saturday. I shouldn’t be ordering new perfume stuff before the ordered ones arrive in the mail!!
Gotta get those babies started early on the bike! Perhaps a balance bike for the wee one soon too? My kid loooooooooooooved the balance bike…
Yes, that’s a great idea. I also spend a lot of time @ the beach with her and we have a brand new park with a splash pad I go to with her every day…
That sounds like so much fun! You are a great parent!
todays picture represents my nst name.
SOTD JM dark amber and ginger lily.
Five more days on this project.
Today’s picture represents “Apsara”? What does apsara mean??
Apsara is Khmer/Cambodian for “celestial maiden” or “one who dances for the gods.”
Wow, that’s beautiful!
Thank you Sistine!
I did not know that! Great name.
what does your NST name represent?
Ooh lovely- both your name and the scent you chose.
I’ve always wondered about DA&GL if the ginger note was that of the flowers like in a micronesian lei or the scent of the root. No places nearby to go and sniff, plus still in lockdown anyway.
SotD is Eau de Mandarine ambrée.
Eau de mandarine ambree sounds great
I can safely report no leis were involved in the making of this fragrance.
?
Happy almost Friday! My SOTD is Diva by Ungaro, appropriately named, it’s a big glamorous Chypre/Floral. I think it’s survived reformulation pretty well, compared to other chypre scents. It’s probably too ‘big and glamorous’ for a visit to the dentist and eye doctor, but here we are.
I’m still sleepy, Mr. SmokeyToes and I met with an old friend at the Rip Tide (our old neighborhood) last night. Lots of giggles to be had. We parked by the SF Zoo, it was funny to hear the lions and peacocks as we walked back to our car.
I’m off to get my permanent crown installed, I have 22 flights of stairs at 450 Sutter with my name on them! 😀
Your exercise routine is just so inspiring
But really, is there ever any such thing as “too” big and glamorous? And wearing a very rich perfume is so much better than an emerald necklace or the like, since it can’t be stolen. In fact, you are contributing to lowering the crime rate, when you stop and think about it. And adding beauty to the world at the same time.
I like the way you think!
Ha, your dentist won’t smell it, because he is wearing a mask and one can never smell too glamorous
It is so annoying to get a crown, your dentist ought to have to carry you up the 22 flights.
Trying Nuit de Bakélite today, an extra from a split that is always fun to receive. I think I like this! Different but pleasing in an odd sort of way.
Too bad for the rain today as I won’t be able to join in on World Bicycle Day. I do love my Citi Bike. Such freedom getting on two wheels and going wherever I like.
And I have no bike at all at the moment, so perhaps we can give a virtual Huzzah! for the Day,
You smell fabulous in NdB and can look forward to some generous staying power!
Trying Vacation by Poolside FM which was a lemming Robin featured last week. No affiliation but links are below.
Perfume was done by Carlos Huber of Arquiste and nose is Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Notes on box are Petitgrain Essence, Coconut Water, Coconut Milk, Bergamot, Solar Musk, Banana, Pineapple, Pool Water, Swimsuit Lycra and Sea Salt. ?
It’s delightful! I am getting lots of bergamot, coconut and banana with the initial sprays…pretty strong sillage too.

https://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/vacation-by-poolside-fm-sunscreen-fragrance-nostalgia-1234824438/
That sounds pretty great, I bet you smell fantastic!
Oh, I was so curious about that! Did you get the perfume or the sunscreen?
Even though it’s not at all wintry today, I am in a spritz of Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, from a decant kindly sent by cm8. I do, do hope it returns as a holiday offering, and will check back come November.
Alas that I haven’t much confidence in the knowledge of SAs at the moment! Yesterday I stopped in at the Chanel counter at Holt Renfrew. The SA there was very pleasant, but not only did she not know about Paris-Édimbourg, she was unfamiliar with Les Eaux as a whole and kept hopefully point at random bottles. Maybe Holts is no longer stocking Les Eaux, but still-!
Good lord! If a person is selling a product, shouldn’t they at least be familiar with what is being sold…? I wouldn’t expect a perfume expert but she should at least know what perfumes Chanel has!
I went to a Holt Renfrew a few years ago to sniff Les Exclusives. The SA at the Chanel counter on the cosmetics floor had no idea what I was looking for. The Guerlain SA knew they were in the Chanel boutique two floors up. Perhaps there was a similar situation with Les Eaux?
Wore no 5 eau Premiere earlier but since I’ve taken a shower I decided to continue on with no 5. The concentration is the edt. It’s a good rainy type of perfume.
Raining buckets here now, so I should be in 5!
I’m in PHI from a generous swapping NSTer. It’s so beautiful and complex and has some glorious longevity.
Hello twin!
Hello!
Good morning NST!
I’m wearing YSL Cinema, a pleasant surprise from the swapmeet.
Judging by its opulence I would have pegged it as an 80’s release but in fact this was launched in 2004 according to Fragrantica.
I can’t make out most of the notes but there are some flowers, an almond extract like note and some vanilla in the mix. It’s kind of sweet but not exceedingly so, not a gourmand for sure.
I really like it. I don’t see it mentioned often.
You smell wonderful – I struggle with what seems to me a “Cin-“thetic, citrus-y opening, but love the middle and the drydown of Cinema. I love almond and peony, and they are there for sure. I wear it from time to time.
I’m wearing Baghari which I received from some wonderful NSTer in a freebie meet, I’m sorry I can’t remember from whom. Love those crackly aldehydes.
I don’t hear any of the Piguets mentioned so much anymore, wonder if they are going out of fashion again?
This week has really gotten away from me, and I haven’t chimed in at all, but I have been reading.
I’m in Orris Tattoo today. I LOVE iris, and this is such a good one. Yet I probably would never had tried it if hajusuuri had not included it in a split package. Maybe the name just doesn’t appeal to me? ??♀️ I have to somehow arbitrarily weed out scents to sample otherwise I’d go bonkers!
Earlier this week, on a hot day, I wore Flower of Immortality from the thegoddessrena. It’s a terrific peach tea-ish scent.
I’m loving the generous sharing spirit of the NST community!
I love Orris Tattoo! Flowers of Immortality smells nice except on me, most of a dabber sample lasted all of 20 minutes.
Orris Tattoo is great! For something so seemingly simple (only orris listed as a note in Fragrantica), it really holds my attention. Thank you, hajusuuri!
I am wearing vintage Diorissimo. I work occasionally at an Indigenous Community Centre and since the Early Childhood group cannot come in person, we are putting a story time online. My favourite thing in the whole world is reading out loud to children, so I am spending the day being filmed doing just that. Some of the books are better than others, but it is still very enjoyable to me, at least. I am wearing pants that are a flowery print that should smell like Diorissimo.
A fabulous perfume for a wonderful day! You smell great.
All of that sounds absolutely wonderful!
I love it when perfume fits the outfit! Makes me feel put together on a whole other level. And reading books to kids is such a wonderful thing to do. No doubt many book lovers were set on that path by experiencing engaging storytimes as kids.
It’s wonderful of you to spend time at the center. I bet kids are thrilled to be read to, even virtually.
What a great way to spend time!
You smell and look fabulous and that is the best time to be reading to kids: I bet I am not the only one who loved to smell a teacher’s perfume or aftershave back in the day.
Trying Goutal’s Duel for the first time, from a freebie sample from Katsura. Thanks, Katsura! This smells great, and is perfect to cut through the humidity and fog on a grey, warm, rainy, headache-y, sleepy day.
You smell great missionista! And hope the headache gets better.
Phlur Greylocke, which I really like, from a sample handed over by a friend who didn’t like it.
Feeling emotionally exhausted, but I’m looking forward to sitting around a fire tomorrow evening with my fellow literature teachers. We still have one week left, so this is our final huddle!
I love Greylocke. My husband wears it beautifully.
You can do it! One more week.
Hot tip! I’ll have to sneak some onto my husband.
Are you done or almost done for the year, too?
My last day of regular classes was today. We have exams for the next week.
I’m in Carnal Flower today, only because it’s been on my mind lately due to other NSTers mentioning it, and because today is looking like what Winnie-the-Pooh would call “A bothering sort of day,” full of meetings and gear-packings and Things To Do. I’m hoping CF will offset all that somewhat and bring in some beauty. Struggling a lot at the moment with inner bleakness but doing my best to lace up my boots and do what needs to be done; as best as I can tell, that’s always the rope ladder out of the dark places.
You smell amazing. Sending you a hug on a day you feel bleak.
Thanks for the hug! It’s kind of a climate-change and child-misbehavior sandwich around here — the macro and the micro squashed together into a big mass of “ugh.” But darn it all, I do smell amazing! 🙂
Really hope the CF helped! If it did, spray on some more!
You do smell great! A small but very real comfort!
Today is a public holiday, so we just hung out and did a bit of gardening. I wore 6 sprays of Covet, because I want to thunk the current bottle. But I have a 100ml BUB.
We harvested the spinach, so spinach omelet for dinner
You smell wonderful; I had spinach and mixed greens in a ginger-miso broth for lunch!
It’s a gorgeous day, and I’m listening to the Song of the Suburbs right now – professional (loud) lawners.
Scent: Jour d’Hermes. Fighting down the urge to buy Terre d’Hermes, even though I sprayed some on the other day in a store, and it vanished instantly. That was weird.
Other: got back from Yellowstone on Sunday. It was lovely
Over the long weekend, the Paramount channel showed all the episodes of Yellowstone. Very over-the-top, and characters seem to get away with murder right & left. It’s set in Montana, but there is a blurb at the end of each episode mentioning Utah.
The scenery is just gorgeous, and now I really want to visit–both Montana & Utah.
I haven’t seen the Yellowstone series, although my sister enjoyed it. My library has the series on DVD (I think), so I might check it out.
I haven’t been into Utah, but Montana is definitely worth adding to anyone’s travel bucket list.
Loved Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons!
How coincidental, just bought myself an entry level mountain bike yesterday, mostly for riding on bad country roads rather than mountain trails though. Will take it out for another spin this afternoon. Joining allo in PHI Rose de Kandahar.
Oh, enjoy your mountain bike! I used to love riding trails in my hometown — there were some not-too-technical ones that were a lot of fun. Bad country roads can also be fun!
You smell great!
It cooled off here, thank goodness, I just can’t tolerate temps in the upper 90’s. I’m wearing blue-bottle Hiris.
YUM.
Perfect choice with Hiris!
Thursday!
1) SOTD: Red Apple & Peony & Cashmere from Beauty Pie. It has cooled down from the heat wave to a manageable 80F today- so this was a perfect choice.
2) During this heat wave and doing the kitchen I have been living off making salads from the garden- sometimes just dressed with a little salt and oil- and big green smoothies with all the remaining frozen fruit and kale from the garden. As a result, my summer stuff that I thought was a little tight is…not as tight. The Kitchen Reno diet, guys!
3) Speaking of which, we start hanging wall cabinets and putting on panels TODAY! I still have to demo the island and replace the cabinets there, but that will hopefully be on Saturday. Today, I will also order the butcher block countertops!
I really vacillated on this one, not gonna lie. That first quote for stone counters was a giggle: it was as much as the cabinets themselves! And the second quote was far more reasonable- I nearly accepted it. But I really had to think things through, and stone counters just wasn’t me and was not in keeping with the style that I wanted- a warm cottage-y kitchen where a lot of salads and soups are made, not a ‘showplace’ . So I am going for the butcher block in birch, and hopefully get it delivered by Monday.
? for butcher block.
2nd. I think I am the only person in the US that does not like stone countertops.
Nope. I’m a big tile fan. I don’t care if tile countertops aren’t the fashion, I love them. It’s astonishing to me how people follow trends automatically. This whole thing about using only high end finishes, even if you’re broke is a result of a full frontal assault from HGTV. 99.9% of people wouldn’t know real stone from Corian. There are so many options that can be DIYed too.
I love tile too! But my favorite counter top is plain white laminate.
That sounds like a fabulous countertop choice. And nothing is better than a good fresh salad!
Just harvesting and mixing it right in the garden has been so lovely!
That sounds really nice. I love the *idea* of soapstone counters but I know how many dishes I’d break on them!
Soapstone is REALLY nice but ooof I just know the number of cups and glasses that will break on it.
Birch should be beautiful. Nice choice!
Kale and fruit smoothies are wonderful! I miss homegrown kale, but my new home garden project is faltering: not much chance for even fall crops for this year. We are a Brood X cicada area, so I just don’t want to interfere. I like the bugs, and it is icky to dig and trim and accidently, err, damage them.
Yeesh. And the weather has been not so great back east, I hear.
Sounds great! I love the idea of your butcher block countertops. I have Silestone in a white color with grey flecks (I think it was called White Diamond), from our kitchen redo 15 years ago, and I love it. So easy to clean and maintain. I wanted white marble but that is so impractical, especially with kids, and I realized I was too influenced by those magazines that show perfect living quarters with no humans. Butcher block will be great!
P.S. I am enjoying my own vegetable garden SO much; I’ve always been a gardener but only recently got serious about growing my own vegetables for my family, and it’s a joy. So far we’ve had zucchini, peas, mustard greens, herbs, and the first few tomatoes.
The end of the week cannot come soon enough.
Was wearing Kiehl’s Musk during the day but this evening it’s Hanae Mori ‘Butterfly EDP, so comfortable.
Both are VERY cozy skin scents!
They are aren’t they; I came late to Kiehl’s Musk, couldn’t be without it now while Hanae Mori is an old love.
I am wearing Caron Pois de Senteur from my Caron sampler set
Seriously old school!
Using the theme this week to test out some untouched samples recieved by some of you lovely people. SOTD is Maison Violet Nuée Bleue, a very pretty floral-citrus that’s working for me in this heat.
I need to make a serious test-those-samples push this summer. Good for you!
In Eau de Weed Whacking at the moment, but will spritz on something light in a bit. Wore vintage-ish Cabochard last night and think it might be less top-note-damaged than I originally thought – maybe the additional sprays that have now left the sprayer got the damaged stuff out. Anyway, the version I have is turning out to be a very dry green leather with floral embellishments and a bit of smoke. Quite nice, and I think it will be a favorite when fall rolls around.
I wore Eau de Weed Whacking yesterday! 🙂 I haven’t smelled Cabochard but dry green leather with flowers and smoke sounds DREAMY.
Oh, I’ve been whacking weeds too this week! Have you tried the new Cabochard launched in 2019? It’s a big improvement over the prior reformulations.
No, I haven’t. The reviews of the 2019 version are all over the place – some say it’s wonderful and others are revulsed. I should investigate further.
I’m wearing an orange top today, so an orange perfume is appropriate. I might be quite casually dressed, but I will smell fabulous in 24 Faubourg.
Orange is my favorite color, and you smell fantastic!
Definitely fabulous!
I’m currently in Gourmandises, a very jammy rose, after a morning of Osmanthe Yunnan. I’ve got a bunch of perfume bottles lined up on my dresser, to remind me to wear them, and wear more of them.
I keep a tray with a bunch of bottles on my dresser too, I love just looking at them, and of course sniffing.☺️
Escentric 2 again – I was running lats so just grabbed and spritzed. It’s so good that it worked perfectly.
School year is winding down. Usually that makes me sad but not this weird, unusual year. I am very ready for a brain break. And for a haircut, which I will get on Saturday!
Yeah, this has been a year, that’s for sure. Enjoy your haircut!
SOTD = Scotch Porter Miami Duppy
Credit me for the CP! It was thanks to Sniffapalooza and Scotch Porter that I even knew about the brand!

In other news:
– masking no longer required at Loews and the local mall … the signs now say masking is recommended and one should cover mouth and nose while sneezing or coughing (?, isn’t this normal pre-covid behavior?).
– masking still required at Home Goods
And…today is my FriYAY! I go back in on Tuesday.
Lol, yeah that would be normal precovid behavior.
I’m in Roger and Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus from the wonderful ElisaP. Miss her.
Another gorgeous sunny day (even though I spent it inside) and temps are continuing to rise.
Omg, I overslept by half an hour today! I was sleeping so soundly when my alarm went off that my foggy brain thought I had another half an hour to sleep. Luckily I only commute 2 miles, so I hopped in the car and zipped to work. Luckily I made it.
Yay for last minute “making it.” Been there, done that. 😀
SotD is Babylon Sunset/Says Alice (I have the Says Alice one). It is so festive. Anticipation is beach-side family reunion in one week. I think I will take Babylon Sunset and my bottle of Ibiza Hippie, which could be a “thunk” by weeks-end. I am hoping to share some perfumes with the gang; taking all my carded samples of mainstream scents I got from the mall and online orders, and mulling over which niche bottles to take. I have Donatella would know how many bottles, but I’d say all but Je Reviens, Youth Dew, Diorissimo, and Shalimar, are mine only with “a little help from my friends….”
My SOTD is FONTEVRAUD by Bruno Fazzolari is a Chypre fragrance. Created exclusively to commemorate LuckyScent’s 15th Anniversary in 2018.
The notes feature Bergamot, Guava, Pear, Rose, Oakmoss, Opoponax, Patchouli and Amber.
#Fontevraud is inspired by The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, a 900 year-old french monastery that was the burial place of Eleanor of Aquitane and
Henry II. After the revolution it was transformed into a prison that
became the setting for Jean Genet’s
autobiographical novel, The Miracle of The Rose.
SotD is “eau de facial” — I had my first facial in YEARS today, getting ready for an actual in-person wedding this weekend! Everything smelled so lovely, and my skin feels wonderful. I’ve never gotten facials very often but that could change, lol. It is so weird to be re-engaging with in-person activities. I’m an introvert by nature so working from home and limiting social contact have actually suited me just fine. I was so happy to be able to attend onsite church and see people, albeit outside, for Palm Sunday and Easter though, so maybe I’m not an extreme introvert. It still felt strange (but wonderful) to go have a facial.
What fun, and hope the wedding is lovely too!
This is actually an easy challenge as pretty much everything I own I either got swapping, splitting, freebies, or from reading reviews or recommendations here haha (which I am so thankful for)! Today I am in Eau du Sud which I first read about here! It’s so good. The sweaty grapefruit bit is a bit much for me at first but I love it after it settles.
