It's Tuesday, plus New Beer’s Eve and Tartan Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Once I wake up a bit more, my plan is vintage Jicky, which I'm pretty sure boasts the earliest launch date (1889!) in my collection.
Reminder: 4/9 will be Antiquities Friday...wear the oldest scent you own (you can interpret this as you like — the one you've owned the longest? worn the longest? the earliest launch date? whatever). Suggested by pyramus.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the tartan stoneware is by Anta in Scotland. I'm not sure you can still get the exact teapot shown, but they do have lots of teapots (including several tartan models) ranging from £78 to £98.
House twins! I have never even smelled Jicky. Today I am in L’Heure Bleue, a comparative youngster from 1912 (afaik). Reveling in my WFH deliciousness.
Now for another cup of coffee (half-caff espresso). And there will be a long walk today — I have meetings all afternoon but should be able to get out around 5 and enjoy the sunshine.
Skalolazka, I have question about L’Heure Blue Edp. I remember it from my childhood as having a bright note but when I wear it it feels subdued. Is it me or a reformulation?
Hm. I occasionally get something that could be called “bright” but it is a very powdery brightness — or rather, a very slight bright powderiness. I think I remember a family friend wearing LHB when I was very small (early 1970s); she is the person I pictured immediately upon smelling this fragrance again a few years ago. But I am afraid that I cannot answer your question with any confidence. I bet there are some LHB aficionadoes here who could help!
In Diorissimo today.
Having plain coffee with a big slice of wild berries orchard pie.
Busy morning with meetings and then taking my mother this afternoon to the second dose of the vaccine.
Another warm, sunny and beautiful day in the city.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
Happy Tuesday! I’m a fan of pie for breakfast ?
??
Wild berries orchard pie!? Sounds delicious! Good luck to your mom!?
Thank you, Lillyjo! ?
You smell lovely! And what a terrific breakfast. Makes me think of Twin Peaks suddenly, coffee & pie.
Oh, I was a big fan. And the chin of Kyle McLaughlan!!!!
Kyle McLaughlan. Swoon!
Thank you! Delish, but not healthy! ?
So happy your Mother is done! Fruit pie is *always* a breakfast choice in this house! And, of course you smell wonderful – Diorissimo, Shalimar, and Je Reviens are the scents that gave me my love of perfume. I have a giant patch of lilies of the valley and their green spears are shooting up en masse – looks like a good year for them and me!
Thank you, MossyBerry! I am so glad mom is mom done now. I love lilies of the valley. They are so beautiful, delicate and fragrant! Enjoy them!
Plain old coffee? ?
Yay for your Mom getting her second shot! And you aren’t too far behind with yours!
LOL! I drink more plain coffee than the flavored ones, especially if I have sweets with it.
I am relieved mom is done with the vaccine. My second one is in almost 3 weeks.
I have one last sample of CK be from 1996, which I liked enough to snag and use several samples of but not enough to buy. You’re supposed to really slosh it on, so a little glass vial would not do the job: these were basically tiny black aluminum milk cans holding about 3 mL — some of them came packaged with a fridge magnet. The scent is… *weird*. It hasn’t gone off: it’s always been weird, less approachable than CK one, a jangle of fizzy fresh notes, abstract florals, greenery, and laundry musk, none of it remotely identifiable — it’s reflected in the funhouse mirror of modern chemistry. It’s bizarrely compelling, though: there’s a reason it’s still in production.
Jicky is another thing I never liked enough to buy: I came close a couple of times, but then I realized, “I’ll never wear this.”
I remember those little aluminum vials so well! I loved them.
I owned both CK One and CK Be in the past. I agree that CK One is much nicer.
House triplets!
I am wearing the beautiful Samsara.
I am sipping on some gardenia oolong tea and having a few tea biscuits.
Talking about Guerlain, I still am angry at myself for not buying a bottle of Nahema parfum when I knew it was being discontinued.
Welcome to the Guerlain club.
Gardenia oolong sounds lovely.
Wow, a gardenia ooolong? What’s a gardenia note like in tea?
Guerlain Apres l’Ondee.
Yum!
Rose 31. Dang, I got up at 5am for a UK call only to open my laptop and find it was cancelled.
Dang.
Oh, how rude of those people! ?
But as we say, at least you smell good.
Oh, I hated those mornings! (Also the afternoons where I’d stay late for a meeting in NZ or Australia and they’d cancel.) Hopefully you were able to lay down for a bit after that.
Ugh. They couldn’t have given yku a heads up?
At least you smell great.
Yeesh! How obnoxious!
Sampling Lubin Kismet today. I don’t see any similarity to Shalimar in this, on me it is a pretty floral incense, sweeter than what I generally wear, and it seems suitable for spring somehow. I keep sniffing my hand…I’ll see if it is as attractive on a second wearing. The back story seems silly, is it even true? I like the bottle…
I also love the tartan tea set! You find the most interesting images, Robin.
Love Kismet. I do get echoes of Shalimar. The backstory is over the top.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have that set?? They have some really pretty things at that store.
That tea set is amazing. And going on my Christmas list.
Those Lubin bottles are dangerously pretty ?
Shattering heat records here today (I’m missing my favorite jacket weather, normal for this time of year) so I’m going to wear my beloved Shalimar edc.
Wow, that hot already?
Browsing through my decants to find an older fragrance, I came across an almost empty decant of TDC Bergamote, so I finished it. This is a good one. Great for a warm, humid day in East Texas.
We’re back in it, aren’t we? ?
Ugh to that!
Agreed.
Wow, lots of Guerlain today.
I’m in Chanel: Eau Premiere for what is my Monday. It was so mild out when I left for work. It’s the first morning I haven’t worn my down parka, lol. Now I see it’s raining out so it’s a good day to be inside after all.
This is my first day without a coat too!
Warm weather twins! I did use my seat heater though.?
Oh yes, I totally had the car heater on.
It’s muggy out there, but blessedly not too warm yet. I’m in White Linen (launch date = 1978) from a mini that smells just like it did back then. When I first started commenting here, I asked for advice about finding vintage perfumes without breaking the bank. A wise NSTer suggested minis, and she was so right! Inexpensive and usually in great shape from being tossed in a drawer and forgotten.
Well, the Magical Box of Assam bit the dust, so I’m drinking Scottish Breakfast + Stash chai this morning. Stepson coming over tomorrow for his birthday celebration, so hubster and I will make applesauce cake with cream cheese icing today. ?
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Tuesday! ?
Between your cake and wild berry pie I’m hungry even though I just ate my nice breakfast of fried egg and toast!
That caught my eye too, Calypso!
Everything is better with cream cheese icing!
I’m hoping to send most of it home with him!
Yes, goood plan, make it, taste and give it to someone who will take it out of the house! LOL.
Yay for the Tea Thunk! Enjoy that birthday celebration tomorrow, and a wee bit of that cake!
Thanks Jalapeno, it should be fun. Warm out, but fun.
Hi all!
Checking in today to say I’m a bit tired but not much else after my second vaccine dose. I felt a little achy but that may just have been my mini road trip!
In Rose & Cuir today to combat a grey listless day. Sadly kind of a busy day so I’m up early.
Stay safe all!
Glad you’re ok!
So glad that’s all!!
Glad you are vaccinated. And Rose et Cuir is really good.
Be careful. Take prophylactic ibuprofen and if you start feeling bad, take a break immediately! I know someone who spiked a sudden chills and fever reaction at 2:00 in the afternoon the next day. It went away by dinner time, but give your body a chance to adjust and deal if you need to!
Very happy to hear you got your second shot and are feeling ok!
Good to hear that you are doing all right after shot #2!
Glad you didn’t have any significant side effects, Coumarin!
For a moment I thought it’s Monday but TGIT already. One workday less is always much appreciated.
I’m in Anatole Lebreton Grimoire – nothing antique about it, maybe except of inspiration which are old magic books.
That’s one way to interpret it!
You need to patent “TGIT!” Tuesday just does not get enough credit, Moody Blues excepted!
I’m in Acqua di Santa Maria Novella today. I think that one was allegedly created in the sixteenth century? Thought of L’Heure Bleue but it didn’t feel right this morning. Maybe tonight.
Back to the grindstone today. At least I can work in relative peace, with the kid back at school. Thanks to the date of Easter, we had two weeks of spring break, then 3.5 days of school, then a four-day weekend (that is only a four-day weekend for the kids and teachers). No one popping into my meetings to introduce herself today!
Yay at least for the relative peace, I guess?
Groggy and foggy here today. I’m wearing vintage Diorissimo, from what’s left of my treasured bottle after most of it spilled during last year’s wildfire evacuation. Wearing it in the spirit of “using the good china” rather than just holding onto it, and hoping its golden beauty helps the sun come out!
I will definitely be in that this week, maybe on Friday.
I agree with using the good china!
I hope the day lived up to the perfume!
You smelled so beautiful today!
Good morning. Feeling much like an antiquity myself. In my sticky old bottle of Knowing–and grinding through the work week.
Thank you all for your well wishes for my #4 over the weekend. I wanted to let you know that all is well. My strange little spot is “in situ,” which apparently is the equivalent of stage 0 cancer—so not very scary. I have a surgery date all lined up. In the scheme of things, hardly worth mentioning. I am really relieved. (So relieved in fact that I just closed the webpage on nearly $200 worth of candles in an online cart. . .
Money saved!)
Surely you’ll find a better way to spend $200. Well done on backing out this time.
Yay! So relieved for you!
Yippee!
Yaaaaaaay!!
Woooohoooo!!!
So happy about your news. I do think you deserve at least a little expensive chocolate, though.
Good news! So glad for you!
Thank you for sharing your good news:)
That’s wonderful news! I agree with Nancyleandros, you deserve a little treat!
I’ve had seven of those bad little spots, and now have seven inch-long scars as souvenirs. Scary at first, because your doctors will tell you to make sure your hairdresser, dentist and eye doctor (and masseuse, if you’re lucky enough to have one of those) are all watching out for oddities. Had a nice bout of depression over it all, but eventually it became just another routine annoyance in the back of my brain. And I got really good at removing stitches.
Really? (Gulp) So sorry. Mine was in a place that I errrrr do not normally examine (despite having read ‘Our Bodies, Ourselves” from cover to cover when I was 17
) . I will be more vigilant. I can understand why it could get depressing.
? On the plus side, if the place yours is in is where I’m thinking it is, that area heals really quickly.
That’s was the doctor said
(small mercies!)
Great news! Maybe worth one candle?
I am so happy to hear that!!
Yay, I say spend it all!
That is such great news! I hope you treat yourself to a little something!
Wonderful news! What an unnerving experience for you, but now you know to be vigilant.
What a relief, thanks for telling us!
This is good news!
So glad for you.
Glad to hear the good news.
Such a relief! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Phew! What a relief! Maybe just one candle?
Happy news – good you went to have it checked. And you smell wonderful!
That’s wonderful news. I’ve had two stage zero melanomas and have been fine since they were removed. The first one was in 2001, when I was 25.
Be kind to yourself – it’s a weird feeling/ situation to deal with!!
Oh interesting. No one in my family has had this–but in this case misery loves company, and it turns out I have a lot of company. Thanks so much.
Whoo hoo for good news!
Foin Fraichement Coupe which, according to the box, was originally formulated in 1886
You smell lovely
Yesterday was a good day and today started out pretty good. One of my friends had messaged me on Facebook asking for money and a place to live. I would like to help but just can’t take anyone else’s problems on. Wearing Deneuve today and trying to enjoy this warm weather in spite of what happened.
Wow, that’s a lot of nerve, unless you’re really close. I’m sure it’s stressful though. I too have a friend in trouble now and in fact in a women’s shelter due to a very bad marital situation. I have thought of offering her temporary space here with me but just am not ready to take all that on. I do worry about her though.
Her husband could never hang onto a job for very long and if she thinks about having to work she freaks out. There are grocery stores that have night shift stockers. I have my problems too and can’t take anyone else’s on. This issue is of their own making compounded with Covid.
Sometimes you just have to say no.
It feels rude to say no but you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you help anyone else. If you’re not in a position to offer the help immediately, it’s OK to say no.
No points at all for me today. I’m in a recent-ish release that is my latest acquisition – Paris-Deauville. Because it’s a lovely sunny morning and supposed to hit the mid-60s! Woohooo! ☀️
We had a lovely sunny day too…wear what makes you happy!
I’m enjoying banana bread for breakfast today. I made it yesterday afternoon, and it’s the first “regular” one I’ve made in awhile, delicious! The last few loaves have been experiments in gluten-free for my husband. While they turned out perfectly edible, they weren’t quite what I would have preferred if I had my druthers.
I’m going to wear L’Artisan Mure et Musc today, possibly my oldest bottle of L’Artisan, from around 2000. It’s a set of 3 travel sprays and came in a cute felted grey pouch with purple lining. L’Artisan really had wonderful packaging in the early days!
If you ever come up with a perfect gluten free banana bread, please share the recipe!
My husband does make excellent gluten free buckwheat banana walnut pancakes, but I have not even tried to do banana bread.
Gf banana bread (and pumpkin bread and zucchini bread and pretty much any other sweet quick bread) is easy! I have celiac disease, and my son is allergic to milk and wheat, so I’ve made dairy-free versions as well, mostly from just modifying recipes with 1 for 1 gf flours. I’ve even messed around with them when I didn’t have quite the right ingredient here or there, but they always turn out great as long as I err on the side of more banana.
That’s good to know. I should buy some proper 1 for 1 gf flours. The one I use doesn’t have xanthan gum, which seems to be a thing in most gluten-free substitution. Mine turns out decent, but it tends to feel a bit “sludgey” and lacks the airy crumb of a normal bake.
Thanks! I gave up gluten but also mostly gave up baking, which is not an entirely bad thing
Muesli for breakfast and Habanita for fragrance. Pretty sure this version is not vintage, but still counting it toward the cp with its original launch date of 1921.
You smell wonderful – I found my vintage 1oz Habinita (guessing it’s ’70’s-’80’s-ish) at a antique mall in the same booth with this fabulous giant conch shell and got both for about $10. The shell is on my fireplace ledge and the Habinita is deep in the less-used part of “The Collection.” Need to change that….
Hi everyone
Its been a while…. Mostly because work is so busy. And tiresome. The project i am working for is quite a bumpy ride.
if i have spare time / energy left, i spent it on physical activities (walking, running, horse riding) or social stuff (visiting my parents, friends..).
But at the moment there is less time left for perfume or other hobbies.
So I havent tried any new. scents. But for now I am perfectly happy with what I already have.
Sotd is Samsara, edp from a vintageish mini.
It smells divine.
I hope everyone is healthy and doing well here!
And If the project becomes less bumpy and is on the rails, ill hope to be here more often again!
Nice to see you! And I’m sorry to hear things have been so fatiguing on the work front lately. I hope you’re finding enough in your non-work life to balance it out and stay healthy and happy. Sending hugs and you smell great!
New jobs! I hope the ride gets less bumpy as you get better acquainted with your project.
Hope work smooths out! You do smell fabulous and hang in there, Jiji!
I’m sure you have a beautiful collection to explore for a while! Take care of yourself – I envy your physical activities!
Nice to hear from you, but what a bummer that you are getting slammed at work.
No points, but it was freezing today, so I put on Wazamba to warm me up after a bad night with just 4 or 5 hours sleep. At my workplace it was also cold, because the heating was put and just came on again in late afternoon.
But I finally could fetch my brompton bike, that I ordered last August. Hope I can go for a ride soon.
Ooh, I hope you get your bike ride soon!
Shalimar philtre de parfum or something like that. It smells good, but nothing beats the real Shalimar.
I actually enjoy Philtre!
I need to try Philtre. I saw a really positive review on You Tube a few months ago.
I was wearing Brocard 5 O’clock during the day, appropriate for teapot Tuesday but this evening I spritzed some Atelier Bois Blonds for calmness.
Everyone needs a couple of “Keep Calm and Waft On!” perfumes.
This worked a treat, I’m glad to say.
Hope it worked!
it did, thank you!
SJP Lovely You – thank you to whomever mentioned it the other day, I ordered it and love it. It is a perfect combo between the original Lovely and Sarah Horowitz Perfect Veil.
So yeah, loving the powdery musk today!
Glad your blind buy worked out!
I had an appointment this morning so
I’m really interested to hear what happened next ….
Me too! ?
Oops… so I didn’t put on perfume until later in the day. SOTD is Rive Gauche. I have a 30 ml bottle of the current iteration. I don’t remember the original so I can’t compare them. I really like this current version. It still has a vintage vibe.
You smell marvellous. It’s a gem, the vintage is more aldehydic but very close otherwise, that’s for the edt.
Yes, I have the EDT.
Love Rive Gauche – another thrift store gem in my collection.
I’ve never seen it in real life. Is the bottle glass or aluminum?
Not sure if you’ll see this. It still has the same appearance but the canister is made from plastic. It looks okay but has come apart the few times I’ve used it. It does pop back together quite easily. I only bought a 30 ml of the current EDT so maybe the larger bottles still use metal canisters? In any case, I enjoy looking at it as part of my collection.
Worth knowing that the current version of Rive Gauche is good!
SOTD = 4160Tuesdays Cloud Parfum

Thanks for the well wishes yesterday. It looks like I will be getting my vaccine ? shot tomorrow! It is annoying when one couldn’t be 100% sure. I will report back tomorrow afternoon. Now I have to think of what perfume to wear to not gas out my companions (we’ll be masked and probably won’t be talking much).
Split packages are going out this Saturday. Participants will get tracking numbers this weekend.
And that should have said CLOUDS Parfum.
Glad to hear that the uncertainty has been resolved!
Yes! I got the text confirming the appointment! But I’m still in the celebrate afterwards mode.
For sure! It’s not time to get complacent.
Thanks for reminding me to pull out my decant!
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Congratulations on getting your vaccine appointment!!
Thank you, sistine!
Yay for your vaccine!
I can’t wait until it’s all done!
I read too late last night but good luck and congratulations! Is there any reason besides time frame that you decided to go with the 2 shot vaccine?
Good luck with the shot tomorrow, I’m very happy for you!
And very much looking forward to receiving the splits! ?
Yay!
Yay for your vaccine! ??
I was contemplating one of the older Guerlains, but have instead decided on something much newer – Angélique from Papillon Perfumes.
This project does lean heavily towards Guerlain.
Mr. Jalapeno decided to make the first batch of bread in the new breadmaker today. It wasn’t a success, but it wasn’t a total fail either. Part of it was not reading instructions completely, methinks. But the end result is at least edible.
SOTD = Le Labo Ylang 49, from the sample stash. Suits today’s weather beautifully.
You smell lovely! I really enjoy that one. I bought a small decant but don’t seem to wear it. Must pull it out.
I had a bread machine but had to stop using it because of the direct correlation to my waistline. ? I read a book called Bread Machine Baking by Lora Brody and Millie Apter. It really improved my results.
Thanks Petunia!
We know part of the problem with this first batch, so the next one will address those issues. The yeasty-beasties do NOT like cold water!
I will have to watch my bread intake carefully. I usually don’t eat bread anymore.
I have made some rather poor bread, but never found any inedible
We’ve made a couple of bricks in our past bread experiments, so have come very close to inedible!
Woo hoo for the first batch. I’ll admit to being a poor instruction reader ?.
RTM will hopefully prevent future bricks for us!
I love bread so much. It will be fun to hear what kinds he makes.
There are some very tasty-sounding recipes in the instruction manual. Maybe we will try one of those in the future.
Joining Robin in vintage Jicky from a mini (Can the Easter Rabbit make the bottle bigger for me???). The newer reformulation has a stinky smell I have a hard time tolerating.
One of the many vintages that I haven’t tried. I’m having a lavendar moment! I’m sure the vintage is beautiful.
Hey twin!
SOTD is Tauer Au Couer du Desert from LuckyScent’s unisex samples pack. I understand the appeal, but it’s not for me. I think of the main note as amber, because if I had to conjure a substance to match what I’m smelling, it would definitely be amber, but maybe this is actually ambergris? Either way, the frag is too spicy for me.
Drinking 2nd flush Darjeeling from Clippership Tea and having an afternoon snack of almond cake with strawberry jam (surprisingly yummy strawberry jam from from Target’s organic house brand – I got it bc I want to use the empty jar for a candle. I’m a jam snob and didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I do)
If you are finding Au Coeur de Desert too spicy, then you can steer clear from its parent fragrance, L’Air du Desert Morocain. It has even more heft and spice.
Argh! Sorry for the typo in ACdD.
Looks like we both had typos
Good to know re: L’AdDM. I was wishing LS had sent that instead since it seems to be well regarded, but if it is a spicier parent of ACdD, it really wouldn’t work for me
SotD for our first hot day is EL Intuition. It “shows to go ya” that one should never say never about a scent note: grapefruit is usually a big fail for me, but it is so present and so enjoyable to me in Intuition. Work has been taking off again – more calls, more meetings. We staff got a bonus 3 hours pay, or up to three hours paid absence for going to get a shot during the work day. The two things are related in our bosses’ minds, and I don’t know but that I agree!
So, does that first hot day feel good, or are you experiencing dread?
We have two four-hour paid excused hours. It is very welcome for the hourly paid staff.
We’re suddenly in the 80s, which is a surprise since we were in the 50s last week. I wore Eau des Merveilles today.
I’m not sure if I have a full wardrobe of warm weather scents. But I surely have enough scents, so I can figure this summer thing out.
I cannot wait for 80s! But then soon enough I will be complaining about 90s
Smelling perfect!
Define full wardrobe please?
You smell WONDERFUL today,
yay for Merveilles!
SotD = Hiris
It’s my “stand up straight, breathe deep, and get things done” perfume.
I love that feeling.
Almost warm enough here for Assam of India, but it’ll wait for another day this week. Can’t wait!
You smell fantastic tiffanie!
thank you, Robin! Hiris really is a winner for me.
Oh you smell good today!
thanks, KellyC! It was a pleasant day, fragrance-wise and otherwise.
Hope your Tuesday was good to you.
Another long day. Driving home I noticed what I think was a stink bug in my car. I was so worried it would want to get in my hair! I had to keep one eye on the road and the other eye on the bug. I didn’t want to lose sight of him, because obviously I would never be able to get in my car again ? once I got home he was just sitting on my drivers side panel so I got out on the passenger side!. Left the window down and waited for him to make his way to the outside of the car. I’m ridiculous, I know.
Sotd is Narciso for her L’absolu.
If it’s a stink bug, I’d be concerned about squishing it! They smell terrible after getting swatted… I learned the hard way. ?
My cat fell asleep on top of one and her fur stunk for the entire next day!
This made me LOL!
I’m with you, lillyjo! I always get a panic feeling when there’s a bug in the car with me. Glad you survived.
I’m so impressed at your composure!
Not participating again today- I’m Paris Riviera which isn’t old in any way but it sure is good! Goodness it hit the spot today. I’ll get it together for the rest of the week with the project.
Such a lonnnng day at work, I need to crash at like 8:00 tonight, ugh.
Picking the perfect SOTD beats CP participation by a mile!
Paris Riviera is soooo goooood. You smell beautiful.
I’m glad I got to sniff it, those Chanels are hard to come by.
