Happy Tuesday and happy Dr Seuss Day (aka National Read Across America Day. More birthdays: Desi Arnaz, Tom Wolfe, Lou Reed, Karen Carpenter. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès L’Ambre des Merveilles because Calypso mentioned it yesterday, plus, it's quite cold here again. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Tchaï of the Tiger.
Reminder: on 3/5, for National Absinthe Day, wear a fragrance with an absinthe-related note (wormwood, fennel, anise, etc). If you don't have one, maybe wear something green and herbal?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Stone Teapot by Nendo ("11oz. teapot features the signature lid designed to act as an infuser and strainer with its hollow body and perforated underside. Shaped just as the teapot with a wide rim opening that is angled to cool hot tea while sipping. The signature round stone-shaped center serves as a train for tea into the base to keep your table dry and clean.") is $44 at Luminaire.
Buongiorno!
SOTDs are No 5 L’eau on one wrist and eau premiere on the other. They are similar but different. Not sure if I like one more than the other
I stopped by BG’s yesterday for their beauty gift card event and repurchased some Chanel foundations that I like.
Tea is several pots this morning. Marco Polo to start and then a Persian earl grey with soy creamer
Book update-
I am 150 pages away from finishing the last of the shadow and bone trilogy. Next is Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Over the weekend someone mentioned a cookbook by Arto der Haroutunian, I couldn’t find the exact one, but the library had The Yogurt Cookbook and I am picking it up today.
I’m so excited to read the new Ishiguro! Please report back.
I am too!!!!
I prefer Eau Premiere but you smell fab!
why? just curious
I think L’Eau was too much citrus and didn’t smell any relation to Eau Premiere or no 5. Citrus and I have a rocky relationship.
ahhhh..
Thanks for your opinion
And oops, just as soon as I posted, I went to read the headlines at CNN.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/02/us/dr-seuss-books-cease-publication-trnd/index.html
UPDATE: see my comment at the end of this thread before you join in, thanks!
Well, that’s just depressing.
But the past is a different country, isn’t it? We learn from the mistakes of our ancestors. Or hope we do.
Please tell me that is an onion headline.
Green eggs and ham were strictly forbidden in my house because pork was forbidden (and later because cholesterol rich eggs were forbidden), but that did not lead to a banning of the “harmful” book promoting them.
The copyright holders are choosing not to continue publishing some of them.
Oh no, that makes me so sad.
This literally made me tear up.
I imagine book collectors will make alot of money in the future.
?
Thank God Yertle the Turtle seems to have made the cut!
I can practically recite the whole book from memory –
“On the far-away island of Sala-ma-Sond, Yertle the Turtle was king of the pond!”
Love Yertle too.?
So, I’m going to be a contrarian and say that looking at the list of the 6 books being removed, I have no issues with not reading those or reducing their circulation. They’re not the greats.
Totally agree. I do not know them, so the news was a surprise.
But now I see this came up previously…
https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2019/02/26/695966537/classic-books-are-full-of-problems-why-cant-we-put-them-down
That’s a great article really trying to address the complexities of the decisions we make about what to read! I don’t have anything to add to that. Thanks for linking it.
Agree and I can see the reasoning. Still, it makes me think of banning books for other reasons and makes me nervous…
I agree too. There are so many great books that I’d rather see the focus be ones that don’t portray people unfairly or harmfully. And I suspect Dorsey is right that these six aren’t selling well anyway, so I can see how this also makes sense as business decision for the publisher.
This feels like saying Shero and putting disclaimers on Disney (!) movies! Has Bambi been cancelled yet? Where does one draw the line? Who’s the arbiter of what’s acceptable?
All the above are rhetorical.
Our media is a reflection of the mores of our society, good and bad. And societies change, and people in societies become the arbiters of what is good and bad.
Does it? But we have to leave it there. Thanks.
Wow, I’m rather relieved to not recognize any of the books on that list. My son and I have many Seuss favorites, and I think I would be a bit horrified if I had not noticed that characters were portrayed wrongly or unfairly in those books.
I’m with Marjorie, I don’t think anyone is going to miss these particular ones. I think I remember the cover of the zebra one from when I was a kid, but no recollection of what it’s about at all. They’re not being burned or banned, they’re just choosing now to publish new copies…I can’t imagine these are selling as well as Green Eggs and Ham.
Thank you everyone for this polite discussion…I felt bad not acknowledging the news right after posting a “happy dr seuss day”, but this obviously all crosses the border into politics and if I had not been so tired when I posted I would have said let’s not talk about it! So, here we are, but let’s drop the conversation while we’re ahead, ok? And really, thanks, obviously everyone was polite to each other.
L’Artisan Patchouli Patch today. Lovely earthy scent with a touch of this weeks anisic theme.
Loooove Patchouli Patch.
I introduced that one to my dad about a decade ago, and it’s been his signature since. You smell great!
He’s expressed some sadness that when the packaging changed, the scent lost a lot of oomph. I had to explain to him about reformulations. His solution has been to double spritz, so I guess it’s fine!
Yes, L’A scents are on the sheer side to begin with – I treasure my older bottle (older meaning 2010)…
Mine’s the older style bottle too.
I guess that means I’d have to quadruple spritz a newer bottle then!
Yeah, TBH I think my dad is pretty liberal with his scents already!
I love that your dad is into fragrance, how cool is that!?
SmokeyToes, it’s definitely from him that I got the bug. I grew up with the smell of his Old Spice + body lotion + essential oils each morning post-shower (he’s an old hippie, so patchouli oil was a common fragrance of my youth). We always had scented candles and incense burning on the mantle. He would pick pine needles on our walks, crush them in his fingers and enjoy the scent. He’s not a perfumista, but he loves fragrances and has always made them part of his world.
I love Patchouli Patch too! Thanks for reminding me of it, I haven’t worn it in a long time. It never occurred to me that it would fit the CP this week either, now I’m down a rabbit hole reading about the differences between anise and star anise. I will definitely wear PP sometime this week!
I tried a sample of Patchouli Patch thanks to a generous NSTer, and found it rather substantial.
Apropos of nothing whatever, I’m wearing Halston Catalyst for Men, a last gasp of late-eighties perfumery that was actually launched in 1994 but somehow escaped the tsunami of freshness and calone that was swamping everything in its path at that time. It’s so good, all these warm cozy spices (it’s -25°C today so I need it) threaded through a complex floral oriental (I mean, just look at the list of notes on Fragrantica, it’s deranged), and that lab-equipment packaging! It’s just genius from start to finish.
-25!
Its cold here today too
I love warm and cozy spicy scents.
Wow, that’s super cold!
Halston Catalyst for men is gorgeous stuff.
“It’s deranged” lol
Loved that bottle and scent. Eventually I will pick up the woman’s version again.
I’m a fan of many of the big hair and shoulder pads scents of the 80’s! I haven’t tried Catalyst, but it sounds great. Hope it does its job in providing necessary armor against the cold!
Catalyst for women (perfume) is a gorgeous spicy/floral honeyed orange blossom, with a great amber dry down. The EdT is more rose, green floral and iris notes, both are definitely of the ‘big hair, bigger shoulder pads’ generation!
That would be me, by the way….
Sounds fun! I’ll keep an eye out if I ever brave an estate sale or a Goodwill ever again.
Goodwill and Estate sales are the place to find goodies!
SOTD Macaque.
Tea is Ahmal Tea Earl Grey.
And I am now about to start on my daily Earl Grey…
For me, it’s usually my many times a day Earl Grey.
Windy, freezing day again.
I am not wearing any scent yet. I took the day off from work and I am rushing my doggie Yei to the vet. He has been in bad shape since Saturday. I thought that he would show some improvement after 2 days, but he is doing much worse today. Healing vibes for him will be appreciate it. On my second cup of coffee and on my way out.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
Oh no!! I am sending healing vibes his way. Poor pup…
The best healing vibes I have to Yei.
I hope he’ll be better soon!
I hope he gets better soon!
Oh poor doggie. Sending healing vibes for Yei ?
Sending sooooo many hugs and positive vibes to Yei and you as well.
Sending many healing vibes to your pup!! Keep us posted, I’ll be thinking of him today.
Sending big hugs and healing vibes to both you and Yei!
Oh, so sorry you’re dealing with a sick pup! Sending warm, healing vibes!
Sending healing vibes to Yei and soothing vibes to you. I hope he is on the mend soon.
Hope he gets help at the vet…good luck and big hugs to you!
Sending healing vibes out for Yei!
Sending big big healing vibes!
Sending warm hugs to you and Yei.
Hope Yei gets better
Hoping your dog will be better soon.
Healing vibes for Yei!
Thank you all for your good wishes to Yei. I am waiting for the results of blood tests tomorrow to see what exactly the problem is. For now he was given an injection to relieve abdominal pain that has made him very sleepy. Hoping for the best..
Oh, I was just wondering how Yei did this morning. Please give him a gentle *squish*.
Thank you, SmokeyToes!
Hope it’s nothing too serious. Speedy recovery!
Sending more positive vibes for you and Yei!
Biggest hugs to you and Yei!!
Cuir Fetiche for a cold, blustery day. I love the featured teapot, could easily imagine brewing that up today…
I love it too! Comes in other colors as well.
Hi everyone! My SOTD is Ambre by Reminiscence, it’s 46 degrees, perfect scent for today’s weather. I can’t wait for the dry down – Ambergris, Benzoin, labdanum, Vanilla, and Musk.
The plumbers are coming over today for round two of repairs, let’s hope this visit is the last.
Putting on the finishing touches on my class project for tomorrow night’s class. I hope to get a walk in by noon today, fingers crossed!
Good luck with your plumbing ?
I decided to go with Jacomo No. 8 this morning. I like the airy feel of the black tea and spices on this one. A good combo for the mixed spring weather we’re having–sunny one minute, dark and rainy the next.
Marjorie Rose, lean in over here – you smell marvelous. Love Jacomo No. 08!
Thank you!
Like this. Immortelle reminds me a bit of fennel, is my excuse here. I love fennel but I’m not sure I have any fennel note fragrances.
Happy Tuesday!
I don’t either!
Forgot to put on perfume until bedtime last night and ended up in Lyric. I am wearing ISM is all of it’s carroty, rooty iris glory.
You smell great today. I remember ISM as one of the perfumes that was so unlike anything I’d ever smelled before I fell down the rabbit hole.
Smelling wonderful in ISM!
That teapot looks pretty nice, a bit Japanese-styled, no?
SotD is Memo Italian Leather.
It’s a decant thunk. I’m unhappy knowing I don’t have it anymore
It’s one of those fragrances I eventually want to have as FB.
That’s a good one. I also love the African and Irish Leathers in that series — wish I could get a mini set!
There’s a mini set!?
Ah, no, I meant that I wish they’d invent one!
Do you mean travel sprays or a mini set of the tea set!
Meant this as a question instead of a declaration.
My husband bought me two travel size sprays of Italian Leather for Christmas. He got big brownie points.
Lucky!
The company is Japanese.
Makes sense
Atelier Patchouli Riviera is my SOTD.
That’s the new Mistral Patchouli isn’t it?
Is it the same or have they messed with it do you know?
It smells like Mistal Patchouli to me. I only had a small sample of MP a long time ago, so I cannot definitely say. It is very nice. I went to the grocery just now, and I could smell a whiff every now and then, even through my mask. That surprised me because it is not a “heavy hitter” at all.
I’m wearing Pierre Guillaume Myrrhiad for the delicious warmth and the anise (for the cp). It’s very gray out after a gorgeous spring-is-really-coming day yesterday, but keeping my spirits up with a delicious Carrot “Cake” (which I am thinking of as Carrot Bread–I put in half whole wheat and some chopped nuts along with all the carrots) for breakfast.
https://smittenkitchen.com/2014/10/carrot-cake-with-cider-and-olive-oil/
That recipe looks delicious! I love Deb’s writing style. “Whatever you do, do not make yourself a teeny tiny batch of (definitely not dairy-free) cream cheese frosting as a schmear…”
I don’t have apple cider on hand, but I think this would work with a combo of orange and pineapple juice. Maybe with a little less sugar…
Yep, she’s fun! I only had regular apple juice and I did decrease the sugar a bit. I also DID make myself the schmear which probably negated all the healthful additions I made, but it’s delish!
TDC Bois d’Iris just because it sounded good for today. It’s good but y’all know I still love the VCA better.
You smell wonderful!
I love the VCA too. I bought a bottle of TDC on th(e) bay but it was off so I returned it. Someday I’ll try it again but in the meantime I’ll just spray VCA liberally since its only downside is the longevity on me.
VCA Bois d’Iris for the win! (But you smell pretty great in the TDC, too.)
As long as you have the VCA too, you’re good. ?
SotD is Dryad.
Its very sunny today and it feels like spring!
Lately Ive not been able to read / post / comment here as much as I would like to
Work is so busy and sometimes a little exhausting, though I also enjoy the buzz and adrenaline when working on a project with deadlines and wellll quite some expectations.
I try to keep fit (mentally and physically) by exercising a few times a week. So I always try to squeeze in more than one hour of running/jogging, longer walks….and I still enjoy horse riding lessons.
so…about horses…I saw the movie The Rider last week…wow that was so beautiful but also kinda heartbreaking.
now I am curious to see Nomadland!
Hope the workload eases up a bit for you soon. And thanks for the report on the Rider. I’ve been meaning to watch it since hearing about it on NPR a couple years ago. Now Nomadland is also added to the “to watch” list, I have a feeling it will also be beautiful and heartbreaking.
I am missing out on so many movies these days, for the simple reason that I can no longer handle watching stories of heartbreak. My watch list is all about milquetoast comfort!
I liked The Rider a bit more (I think non-actors are more effective for the kinds of stories Chloe Zhao likes to tell) but Nomadland was wonderful. I wonder if it would be getting the attention it deserves in a more normal awards season.
So glad Nomadland was wonderful, really looking forward to seeing it.
It’s out on Hulu now!
Dryad sounds like a great scent, sadly I could never test it. Keep up with the walks and riding, it’s so good to go out after a long workday.
Good morning all! I’m in Bond #9 Chinatown from a sample. I like this one a lot, but it’s a solid like, and a solid nope as far as the price is concerned.
I picked up the two Method hand washes featured in the 2/25 daily lemming post. Both are very cute, and the plastic sleeves were applied properly. The vanilla is very subtle, but the dewberry one is quite strong! I’m on a no/low buy for perfume, but evidently not for hand soap. ?
I got 2 of the soft vanilla this last Sunday. The dewberry looked too busy – my eye / brain couldn’t really handle it ?
I have so much liquid hand soap now that I can’t justify getting any more.
I do too, to be honest with you. And let’s not even start in about shower gels. ?
The first rule of The Shower Gel Club is not to talk about The Shower Gel Club.
I bought a bunch of Christmas clearance one’s. I will still have santa soap in July!
Hey, something with peppermint in it sounds good for a hot July day!
I change up our hand soap scents each season, and if I find a scent I like on sale I buy a bunch. But the sales happen at the end of that scent’s season, so we usually have a stock pile of bottles of each scent for nine months before I put them out. Mr. Vee finds the number of bottles in the stock pile ridiculous.
Cut to last March when Mr Vee and I started working from home, washing hands eight hundred times a day, and plowing through a ton of hand soap when it was difficult to find it in the stores. We finished the spring, summer, and most of the fall bottles by June before I could find more in stock at the stores near us.
TL;DR – Mr. Vee is no longer permitted to make comments about hoarding hand soap unless it is to thank me for keeping us in good hygiene during the pandemic.
I have lots of perfumes that will fit the CP. I made a little list on Sunday. Mostly the perfumes I have to fit have an anise note. For some reason I didn’t come by to comment yesterday, but I was CP compliant in Serge Lutens Douce Amere (sadly discontinued) and at night I also participated in another discontinued perfume, Leslie Blodgett Bare Skin.
I’ve had a rough start to the day by sleeping poorly, partly due to having period aches in the early morning hour. Ugh. Then had a coffee mishap. The pot seemed to be done brewing, so I lifted it to pour a cup and suddenly a steady stream of coffee came raining down into the hot spot where the pot had been. Apparently, it had been clogged and me lifting the pot away triggered it to flow again. I was way too tired to deal with that, but I cleaned up the mess and then used a strainer when I poured my cup because there are coffee grounds floating around in my pot. Sigh. Is it the weekend yet?
Oh, almost forgot my SOTD. It’s another beauty with anise, Mugler Cuir Impertinent.
Argh! I hate when the coffee pot does that. And then having to deal with it before having coffee is just salt in the wound.
Right! Having some caffeine in me already would definitely have sped up my reaction time.
Douce Amere is a favorite of mine; you smelled wonderful yesterday.
Thank you! I have 10-15ml left in my bottle and will miss it when it’s gone.
I hoe your day got better after that bad start. At least you smell great
Thanks, tannina. Luckily, the rest of the day has been quiet and uneventful so far.
UUGH having one those mornings! I hope you have an easy rest of your day!
Thanks! I treated myself to lunch delivery today. I had a big delicious salad. ?
I didn’t know Cuir Impertinent has anise. Now I have something for Friday. Thanks!
Glad to be of service!
Douce Amère hasn’t been discontinued! It’s still available as part of the exclusive (bell-jar) line, €190. Lutens never seems to discontinue anything, fortunately.
Ahh, thank you for the correction! I remember the talk of discontinuation years ago but must have forgotten that they simply put it in their most expensive bottle ha. I’m curious if it’s been reformulated.
Unfortunately, everything gets reformulated, often repeatedly. Lutens himself has said as much:
“Because of the legislation ruling perfumery, all fragrances must be modified every three or four years. My perfumes, including Féminité du Bois, do not derogate from this rule.
The restricted materials are replaced by products of a similarly high quality. This operation is carried out by highly qualified experts. Contrary to common opinion, this modification doesn’t always necessarily mean that the fragrance is less good. Some may even be improved as a result.
Be it as it may, if it is true that there is a reformulation, for me it doesn’t modify in the least the quality (creative and olfactory) of my fragrances.
Féminité du Bois, like the others, remains authentic.”
I have never discovered a fragrance that was improved, or even kept status quo, by reformulation: it’s always a downgrade, always. I admit to not having smelled every version of every scent ever made, but I do have lots of experience with later versions of a number of scents (some of them Lutenses), and they unvaryingly suffer from the process. Some are ruined entirely, some are diminished, but they’re never greater than they were. That’s why I haven’t bought a bottle of Lutens’ La Myrrhe: I know a recent bottle could never be as good as my memory of it.
Wearing Iris Perle which again is really nice. Out of the ones I have tried Cuir de Chine is easily my favourite. But they are all wearable and interesting.
Lovely! Im glad you like most of them.
I’ve been wearing at least one of them daily since I got them at the beginning of January. Even if I don’t start the day in it I usually end the day by spraying one of them as a comfort, bedtime scent. My least favorite of the EdPs is Oriental Velours (especially in the opening). But everything else is easy going and pleasant.
Sotd – Maison Trudon Olim (enjoying finding anise here and there)
Oh, I do like that one.
Solstice Scents Rose Mallow Cream today.
I stumbled upon this house after my parents passed and bought a whole bunch of samples, whipped soaps and some FBs throughout the following year. Solstice Scents was a wonderful distraction and helpful part of my grief process.♥️ Arguably better than booze or street drugs too.
I don’t remember how I came across Solstice Scents but I’m glad it gave / gives you comfort.
♥️Indeed…just like our ultimate, unregulated drug…vanilla.?
Lol!
I love it that an indie perfume company was your coping method! Mine is often just marked down designer scents which is not nearly so cool
I like marked down designer scents too!
I have been less and less interested in SS in the past 6 months or so. I kind of see it as an affair that maybe ran its course.
Maybe you just needed them for your undergrad in vanilla!
Rose Mallow Cream sounds like something that should be in an Easter basket! ???
That’s a much healthier choice than booze or heroin!
I haven’t tried much by Solstice Scents, but a couple nights ago I tried a sample of their Violet Mallow and was really taken with it. Rose Mallow sounds very good too.
SOTD Apres l’Ondee, vaguely on task with the anise note. I’ve moved on from winter comfort scents and am now trying in vain to usher in spring while it’s still 13 degrees and snowing outside. We’ll see if that lasts through the week.
You smell lovely !
Good luck Dorsey! Spring has to come eventually!
Does anyone else find ironic that Lou Reed and Karen Carpenter shared the same birthday? Talk about opposite ends of the musical spectrum. Anyway, commando (and very lazy) so far this morning, but I think I’ll join in wearing L’Ambre des Merveilles post-shower. Haven’t worn it in a while, and it’s so gorgeous.
Ever so often, I break out old Carpenters tapes ( from my older sisters) and listen to them. What a hauntingly ethereal voice Karen had.
Mr. G is a huge fan of The Carpenters’ music – it never grabbed me when they were popular, but I agree her rich contralto voice was amazing.
This may seem odd, but the Carpenters were a rebel group, like the Velvet Underground. Karen Carpenter’s playing the drumsticks was so unusual that it was joked about as some sort of strange quirk. The radio was divided among progressive rock, hard rock (later called heavy metal), Funk and early Disco. There wasn’t a lane for well crafted pop groups centered around their own compositions, and sophisticated vocals. Now “Divas” are a standard category, but not back then.
I guess it never occurred to me that a girl drummer was anything unusual, but I can see now that it would of course have been seen that way at the time. In retrospect, I think my cluelessness on that was in part born of a junior high era friendship with a girl who was very much that kind of rebel. She and I were polar opposites, and yet we were a variety of soulmates. We lost touch completely after high school, and I often wonder what she’s doing now.
I never knew that Karen Carpenter played drums!
I didn’t either.
I’m in Eau Noir today for absinthe week (I’m making it a week!) Bit of a whirlwind day today — virtual Board of Supervisors meeting, Zoom kindergarten, scheduling emergency tree work, making chicken cacciatore, and getting interviewed for public radio, all more or less simultaneously.
And yet, somehow, I can do all of it in my pajamas if I so choose…
That is a lot in one day! And cool to be interviewed for public radio, esp. in your pajamas.
Happy Bday also to Jon Bon Jovi lol I was such a huge fan when I was younger. Lol. My BFF from grade school and I would talk about how we would grow up and be glam rock roadies. I also had a six foot tall Jon Bon Jovi poster on my door, I thought that was pretty awesome back then lol. I was thinking to wear something 80s for sotd..probably Poison. Because Poison was glam rock too haha.
Poison is just right!
Today I’m wearing 10 Corso Como.
You smell great.
WOW! You smell awesome!
Twins! I just finished sprayed on some!
That teapot is gorgeous!
Trying Regime des Fleurs Willows today. The violet and iris take center stage for me on this. It was initially very powdery, but that calmed down after a few hours, and now it is sheer. They claim there is tonka bean absolute, but I’m not getting it. This would be pretty as a triple milled bar soap or hand cream.
Drinking Vahdam English Breakfast
I am finding I like soapy, sheer scents, so I am gonna have to seek this out. Thank you!
Having worn Sortilège yesterday, an easy choice today is my other Le Galion, La Rose.
Robyn – you commented yesterday on New Zealand’s chocolate butter. I hadn’t heard of that, and I’m sorry to say that it looks it was like a limited edition. But we’re still a nice place in other respects
Oh, well drat, I assumed everyone in New Zealand ate it on toast for breakfast every day
Wearing Slowdive from a sample. I have another sample on the way, along with Bukhara and Iris Shot (plus a few others).
House twins – I’m in Shangri-la.
I’m wearing Scotch Porter’s Glenwood today. Love it.
I didn’t finish my to-do list yesterday (when do I ever, frankly?), and so I’m hoping to be extra productive on this sunny Tuesday.
On a work-related note, I’m considering the early retirement option currently being floated by the college district I work for. It wouldn’t speed up my retirement by a whole lot, but even that little bit of time is looking really tempting to me….
Oh that is a tempting offer!
Decisions, decisions! ?
SotD = L’ambre des Merveilles
It’s cold in the house, but the sun is shining in my window. L’ambre feels right for today. Luminous. Reminds me of the review over at Bois de Jasmin every time I wear it.
Shamelessly cribbing off Robin, though I had Hermes on my mind this morning because of baby feet cuteness via amysedaris:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7QLV8sW6m/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
I shamelessly (yet again) lay in bed scrolling through cute/pretty/silly photos as I summoned the energy to put my feet on the floor this morning at 10 am. Stayed up a little too late watching Space Sweepers on Netflix last night, so over the top it’s almost silly, but also a lot of fun.
And I’m taking it easy today because I am a walking incubator of the Moderna vaccine for c19, got my first dose yesterday evening. Thank you healthcare workers! and thank goodness I don’t start work with students until 11:30 today. :p
Congrats on the vaccine! Cribbing – eh, we all do it. And the image, ?!
thank! and heh, yeah, I often come here looking for inspiration for a sotd.
Loved your red owl today, that Io bottle is stunning.
Red Spicy ? was yesterday. Today’s is blue which you’ll get in your feed tomorrow. I’ve noticed that I’m getting IG postings later than usual although I get some others pretty timely.
Good to know! Your owls are creating some serious Chris Rusak lemmings.
I feel a sample set may be on my to-do list soon.
Hurray for Dose #1! Hope that your arm still feels OK.
thanks, Jalapeno! I kind of feel like someone punched me in the arm today, but it only hurts when I laugh
just kidding, it only hurts if I reach up high with my arm.
Felt a little tired this morning and afternoon, so am very grateful my schedule allowed for a late morning start.
OMG thank you for that picture. I just saw the real version of those sandals last week while looking for Hermes related denim pictures. Done in orange peel is PERFECT.
Congrats on your vaccine!
CP compliant with Jil Sander No4, that has an anise note, which I can’t smell.
I even had a compliant dinner with Pasta con le sarde with sardines, Fennel, chili, saffron and raisins.
Gosh, your dinner sounds very Sicilian and very good!
2nd that. Yum.
mmmm, fennel is delicious!
Wearing ELDO Fils de Dieu on this grey day but no rain. FdD is certainly a mood booster.
You smell fantastic! Can’t wait til the weather is appropriate for that one again.
Thank you, it is so radiant even on a not warm day, 10C.
There’s something about Fils de Dieu that works for me in cold weather.
So glad you like FdD too, I agree that it performs its magic in any weather.
Wearing a simple light vanilla, Maison Tahité Floranilla, since I’ve been under the weather for a few days (not Covid). Haven’t felt up to wearing perfume. But starting to feel a bit better.
Hope you will feel better soon.
Feel better soon. Some desire for scent is a good sign!
Sounds like a cosy hug of a scent. Take care.
Hope you can take it easy, and feel better very soon!
I noticed you weren’t around but glad you’re feeling better!
Hope you are all the way better soon!
Feel better soon. Sending hugs!
Glad you are on the mend, May your perfume help.
Best to you Cazaubon!
Glad you are feeling a bit better!
Glad you are feeling better and vanilla is always the way!
Sorry to hear that you’ve been under the weather.
Feel better quick! We need your perfume-love vibes around here.
I hope you recover quickly!
Tuesday!
1) Made to March 2021!
2) I turned the big 40 last year. And I remember that there were serious, *serious* issues with having Dr. Seuss’ lesser known works in NYC public schools as a child, especially in those districts that were majority Black/Ashkenazi. That the publisher simply stopped publishing older- and frankly, uglier- works that do not sell, particularly in our modern society, is not surprising.
3) Anyways! Am in Ambery Saffron on the partly cloudy but bright day in Portland – it’s the dupe for MFK 540. It’s actually rather perfect.
4) Gonna put on The Carpenters later on my system.
#1 — YES!
#2 — so funny, even when my son was young, I was not aware there was any controversy. But we basically had Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs & Ham, I think that’s it.
Love the tea set!
SOTD = Dior Addict
Woot! Vintage juice! Vanilla, sandalwood, tonka, and some indistinct florals. ?

In other news, my sister is now talking about planning for travel in 2022 if our Tauck Oberammergau trip now rescheduled to July 2022 falls through. Let’s just say my desire to travel has diminished by quite a lot as traveling with masks required does not feel right nor fun (note: I am not an anti-masker).
Smelling fantastic!
Thank you! I won the lottery with this one!
I have a quick trip to Palm Springs later on this month and flying with a mask DOES NOT sound fun. At all. And that is a two hour trip- can’t imagine a long flight to Europe!
So that’s double my train ride, which I haven’t done in almost a year! I’m of course thinking of adding a face shield but I think one is supposed to wear a mask too. No fun is right.
Love the owl! And the tea set, although I do not need any more tea sets or coffee pots or anything. Downsizing is such a drag.
I can’t imagine traveling anytime soon, except maybe in a motor home, which sounds awful. I loathe being in crowds anyway. My daughter, who’s fully vaccinated – she’s medical – is talking about going to Miami Beach for a long weekend and I am having a hard time keeping my mouth shut.
No SoTD, had too much writing to do and didn’t want any distractions, but enjoying all the anise ideas.
And we hit the vaccine lottery, thanks to the CVS bot that woke me at 4:36 am ET with a text message. Maybe some tea or coffee will help.
Congrats on getting an appointment!
Thanks! I’ve never been so excited to get a shot. Lol
Yep, mask wearing and other stress inducing precautionary measures are definitely taking the fun out of travel. I’m also not feeling it as much as I used to or hoped I would.
I do miss traveling!
Very abstract and artsy owl for today!
Zero interest in traveling right now. Errands like grocery shopping are taxing enough.
The weekend errands are adventure enough for sure!
My 85 year old aunt invited me out to lunch today. I can never say no to her, or a free meal, so I went. My first time in a restaurant in over a year, because I hardly ever eat out. We went to a medditeranian place and I stuffed my face. We were the only people in there until about 15 minutes before we left. I felt safer than I do at work. I wore Miss Dior Le Parfum.
Sounds like you’ve had a lovely day, Lillyjo. It’s nice to be able to break the routine a bit.
Truly a nice break!
Glad you were able to get out for lunch, what a nice treat. It’s surprising now at how we used to take that for granted. Hopefully soon we will be able to do that again without fear and anxiety.
Yeah, it felt weird at first. The food was excellent!
What an awesome day! Glad that you were able to get out and enjoy some time with your aunt, and get some eats, too.
It was really a nice visit.
So glad you had a great time, Lillyjo! You deserved it!
Thank you!
‘I stuffed my face ‘ is the best sort of endorsement for a restaurant!
You smell classy as you stuffed your face!
I’m still stuffed!
Wore a whole melange of scents throughout the day… Would not be surprised if one or two had anise
I am using a very old hand butter from the bodyshop – Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter. I suspect the ‘purifying’ has only to do with the refreshing scent – which is very nice!
Plus, something funny about purifying your hands with absinthe.
That too – ha ha! Actually, it’s somewhat paradoxical that we use alcohol to more truly purify
Hello all!
We had several days of straight up summer here but we’re back to cooler temps (hopefully not for long). I’m starting to see daffodils blooming.
I started the day in Vanille Havane and just added some Musc des Sables.
Daffodils, can’t wait!
Loving the lines of today’s teapot!
Bright sunshine today, but EGADS is it ever cold out! Wind chill was 22 degrees F at lunchtime today. Not a fun walk to check the mailbox. ?
I might have read one of those Dr. Seuss books that won’t be published anymore when I was a kid.
SOTD = Divine EdP, from the sample stash. This grand diva of a scent can and does stand up to cold, dry weather, and simply brushes it off.
It was cold here this morning but warmed up in the afternoon.
Your sample stash is full of all sorts of treasure!
Thank you! I wouldn’t know about most of those perfume treasures if it wasn’t for NST and the like. I’d be missing out for sure.
Since it’s Lou Reed’s birthday, I’m listening to The Velvet Underground. It had been way too long since I’ve put them on.
Today I wore Beige because I put on a beige cashmere sweater. Yep, sometimes it’s that simple. But I smelled great, so it worked.
I wonder what I should wear tomorrow with stripes?
Lol! Now you have me thinking ?
Something layered?
