Happy Friday and happy Levi Strauss Day! Our community project for today: along with Jacob Davis, Strauss invented and patented the riveted blue jean. Do whatever you like with the theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with the simple idea of jeans as modern casual wear — a no brainer outfit that you can dress up or down and wear (nearly) anywhere. I'm in the perfume equivalent: my patented mix of Hermès Eau Claire des Merveilles layered over Eau des Merveilles.
Reminder: on 3/5, for National Absinthe Day, wear a fragrance with an absinthe-related note (wormwood, fennel, anise, etc). If you don't have one, maybe wear something green and herbal?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing my very best jeans to honor the day. However, since somehow, the Levi company has never made a pair that fits me properly, they are not Levis.
I thought of wearing a fragrance suitable for jeans, but the truth is that I regard every fragrance, from the jauntiest casual to the most luxe to be suitable for jeans.
I decided to wear Lili in honor of its creator Dawn Spencer Horowitz, another American original hailing from West.
I used to be able to wear Levi’s when I was younger. No more.
DSH is the perfect pick!
My first thought about the CP was that the only Levi’s in this house are my husband’s. I, too, have not had a pair fit me properly since…well, maybe 1979? I am wearing Lucky Brand today, which also do not fit me perfectly, but better than Levi’s. But my favorite pair is Level 99 — with a hole in the knee, now, from when I fell and broke my ankle last fall.
All I could think of was the not-great Neil Diamond song “Forever In Blue Jeans”, and he mentions honey in the song, so I went with SL Miel de Bois, the honeyest thing I can even imagine. I know a lot of people hate it but it’s so me: I loved it the moment I smelled it.
You smell fantastic! Yes, SL has a few bespoke scents that feel so ‘right’ on skin.
I adore Miel de Bois, and have never been troubled by the ‘cat pee’ note that others have noted (which is perhaps troubling in itself — do other people think I smell like cat pee when I wear it??). I think you smell just lovely. 🙂
That’s always a concern of mine: “Just because *I* don’t smell pee doesn’t mean *other* people don’t.” I usually wear it at home, in very small doses, where I find it cozy and comforting.
Exactly! Like my husband, lol.. & others.
NICE. Have not worn it in ages, should put some on this weekend. If I still have any.
I’m another fan of Miel de Bois, but like Isabella and Pyramus I wear it at home. I’ve read a bit too much about how some people perceive it 🙂
I know I have a sample of that around somewhere that keeps hiding from me…
Good Morning all, my SOTD is RL’s Blue, the closest match I could find for the community project. I’m nearing the end of my bottle, which makes me a little sad. This and Turquoise are two favorites from the past 20 years.
I’m overjoyed to hear the baby giraffe at Safari West is doing well. SW has asked the public for assistance in naming him. The choices are Valentino, Dobby, Patches, Vino and Ollie. I’m thinking Valentino is my favorite. I like Ollie, it’s a cute name, but geared more for a hippo or elephant (in my mind).
Watching the news over Lady Gaga’s French Bulldogs being stolen. There’s been a rash of dog thefts, Frenchies are apparently quite popular. Poor furry babies have to be scared, I’m hoping they are returned without incident, in good condition.
And the dog walker shot! 😮
I know, the video is so upsetting to hear. I think he was shot in the chest?
We’ve had a rash of dog thefts in SF, one was a woman in a very tony neighborhood (Nob Hill), whose three month old Frenchie was stolen at gun point.
I had no idea those dogs were so expensive. 😯
crazy!!!!
The shooter certainly knew that walker was a fello human being
I used to work as a dog walker–I always thought of it as such a safe and chilled out job…I was shocked when I heard about the shooting!
I always thought it was a chill job as well! We’re not living in normal times….
Did the shooter know they were Gaga’s? I know purebred frenchies can get a good price, but not enough to potentially kill someone over unless there’s a black market for celebrity dogs. Such a weird story. Glad it seems like the guy’s okay.
You know, good question. I’m not entirely sure if they knew. I’m also wondering if they were watching the dog walker before making their move.
I looked up how much these puppies can cost, $1,500 – $5,000 per puppy?
That’s a little too rich for me (even if I had the cash, I wouldn’t) I’ll adopt a dog or cat from the SPCA. 🙂
Glad to have a vaguely defined mixed breed from Craigslist. Nobody’s gonna shoot me over him! ?
And I think mutts tend to be more hearty, less health problems. Every purebreed I’ve had, Rocky was a Rag Doll, Gino and Smokey are Maine Coons (all from Rescues), and my three mini Doxies (Stretch, Slinky, and Jake), all had numerous health issues.
Hi Dorsey, the dogs were returned! News reports are saying her dogs may have been targeted because they were lady Gaga’s.
Forgot all about the CP today! It’s a bit chillier here today so I wanted something warmer and went with Orange Bitters. This was one of the few JM’s to strike me with deep and immediate joy, back when I got it – but honestly I don’t reach for it often and it wasn’t hitting the spot today. So I spritzed some Maroussia on top and the combined effect is really really gorgeous! To me Maroussia is all lift and somehow lacks a heart while OB is sticky and dense. So…by some act of great fortune they DO work well together.
Love it when that happens!
Yes, cos when it doesn’t it can be really bad 😀 But most often it’s kind of mediocre!
Agree with mediocre!
Happy Friday, friends! It’s a beautiful sparkling day in NYC, and I’m so excited that the snow is melting and spring is heading our way!
SOTD is Green Spell. Minus the yellow, it would be blue. Works for me! As far as the perfume goes, I absolutely adore the bitter green opening – similar to Vent Vert to me – but my first sampling was love at first sniff followed by disappointment when it devolved into the ubiquitous woody dry down. We’ll see how it goes today!
Thanks for reporting on the dry down. I had been eyeing Green Spell.
Closing eyes now.
I’d love to send you the remains of my sample, lillyjo! There’s enough to get a decent wear out of it. If you’re interested, you can email me at harukirumi in yahoo land.
Thank you Holly, but I already know I would share your experience. I do appreciate the offer.
A sensible decision!
I had a similar experience with Green Spell, an awesome opening that didn’t last, but I do need to test my sample a bit more.
I was so disappointed as that opening is awesome, and I haven’t been excited by anything I’ve tried in a very long time. It made me mad!
Pffffffffffffft on disappointing drydowns! What a bummer.
I know!
I went with Hiris today, because I was in an iris-y mood and this, of all my irises, seems like the most casual-goes-with-everything one. I haven’t worn it in a while and I’m definitely having a “Hello old friend” moment with it!
Hiris is gorgeous stuff. 🙂
Yes.
Twins.
SotD MFK A Piece of Me pour Femme, as jeans are very much a staple in my wardrobe.
I am also celebrating, with my long torso, the return of higher-waisted jeans in the last 3-4 years.
According to Levi’s “mile high” skinny jeans which I am wearing today, my rise is in fact exactly one mile and one inch, as they still don’t quite make it to my belly button, lol!
Happy Friyay, fragranced friends.
I too celebrate high waisted pants coming back. Just because they’re much more comfortable to me. Always have been.
Maybe it’s because I think they might make my legs look longer…. I’m part penguin.
A friend of mine does a hilarious imitation of a teen walking in those low-low cut jeans… step step hoick (pull the jeans back up) step step hoick step step hoick….
I was in college when those super low rise jeans were all one could buy (early 2000’s), and I have a very long torso, so wearing jeans at all was always precarious!
Ditto! And the underwear was never as low rise as the jeans were ☹️
Ugh, the dreaded “whale tail”!
I’m wearing Eau de Cartier Vetiver Bleu, mainly because of the color of the juice – blue for denim. I love vetiver, and although this one probably won’t last on my skin, I can definitely see a decant or mini in my future.
I keep thinking I’ll find a nice mini of the EdC Zeste de Soleil, but I never do!
My plan today was to go with Torn from Henry Rose, this one has a heavy dose of vanilla bean and sharpness of vetiver. However it didn’t really hit my association with Levi jeans.
When I think of Levi’s I often think of my father, who wore Levi jeans and smelled mostly like the garage and some form of tobacco, he was either smoking a pipe, cigarette or sometimes chewing it (yuck) and often had some sort of car oil all over his hands.
So I went with Dark is Night: patchouli and vanilla
Today I am in Joes Jeans https://images.app.goo.gl/hk1J74NBUeVekGtTA
and a San Francisco tourist style sweatshirt
Those are some cute jeans!
Thank you TeainTheGarden, mine aren’t as frayed at the bottom.
I think they are called the “icon”
This is my top
https://images.app.goo.gl/ccKiu72SA2Vuu6476
I stuck to my plan and chose Bvlgari Eau The Bleu for the blue jeans association. I could not bring myself to wear jeans on my one day of the week working from home, though, so my participation is kind of weak.
I was pretty sure, Robin, that you’d be wear a Merveilles today, and you wore two!
Scent twins! Am in velvet jeans, aka winter jeans.
Predictable as always 😉
Oh, but who cares when you smell so fabulous.
Agreed!
Despite wearing jeans for most of the past year, I am not wearing jeans today–rather pinstriped navy blue baggy trousers that have also been a staple since I got them.
Anyway, back in the before times, I couldn’t always wear jeans to work on a weekday, but I could always wear them on a Saturday. So I went with Arielle Shoshanna’s Saturday today.
Good choice!
Clever hit of CP points!
Hi all!
I went with Covet, because Sarah Jessica Parker did those huge Gap ads in the 00’s. Of all the sub-Trivial Pursuit knowledge I have retained for 20 years, this is pretty close to the nadir. But I probably got some poll points from it!
One of my favorite bands put out a single this morning so my commute was instantly uplifted. A simple pleasure!
Stay safe, all!
Nice one for the CP
Gap ads used to be so much fun. I remember the old ads with Madonna and Missy E.

Wearing Coty Vanilla Musk this morning, which seems to be a blue jeans sort of scent to me.
I love vanilla musk!
As promised yesterday I’m in Ormaie L’Ivree Bleue for the CP, to honour the blue color of classic denim.
Woo hoo!
??
Meet Me On The Corner, because of the description on the website, waiting for meeting friends in the late 70ies outside, and wearing denim for sure. It’s such a nice scent, but short-lived.
Made smothered bavarian cabbage today with roast potatoes from the oven and spicy brats. And a sheet cake with apples and sour cream for dessert. Happy weekend!
Sounds so good! Yum! Enjoy.
What a cozy meal! I came across a recipe for a savory cabbage strudel recently, and I’ve been seriously craving it.
Smothered Bavarian cabbage? What is this magic and how have I lived without it this long?!
Because I am bavarian, and you are not :)))
This is suspiciously logical…. ?
The cake sounds delish! ?
I’m wearing Jour Ensolleille because it’s my most California scent, reminding me of where I grew up in the East Bay of San Francisco.
I’m old enough to remember when the dress code in public schools was abolished. Which meant blue jeans became ubiquitous – most especially the shrink-to-fit, button fly 501s. Which NEVER fit me, much to my chagrin, because I loved how they looked. I’m an hourglass shape, so to fit over my hips meant jeans that were too big in the waist. And…also meant that leather label at the waist pretty much shouted to all and sundry just how big a size I wore. No thank you.
I did, of course, have the denim overalls. And various denim jackets.
Did you find a jean brand more to your liking? I’ve had some success with Joe Jeans,
You smell fabulous!
I have a short rise, muscular legs and a tiny waist. I’m a fan of Lucky Jeans, they are normally perfect for my body type.
My body type sounds a little different from yours, SmokeyToes, but I heartily second the recommendation of Lucky Jeans. They work quite well for me (long legs, long rise, big thighs and butt relative to the rest of my body).
The perfect cut of lucky Jeans for me was discontinued some time ago. ?
Oh no, *sigh*
Which cut was that??
“Easy Rider”. It was the perfect straight cut jean for me, and fit both my waist and my hips/thighs. It had a nice bit of stretch to it, too.
There is no shortage of other jeans in my closet, though!
Had doc appointment yesterday and x-rays which looked good and the neck collar is off!? Feels strange but wonderful.
Sampling two from BDK today: Crème de Cuir and Wood Jasmin…just demolished an everything bagel and wearing Levis albeit not vintage or fancy.??
Happy Friday, all!
Yay for the good medical progress! You must be so glad to have your neck back out in the world again!
Thank you, Isabella! Yes, I take lots of walk and to feel the sun and wind on it again is really amazing.
Great news on your progress! Take it slow but enjoy that newfound freedom.
Thank you, Laila!
Great to hear that you’re finally free of the collar!
Thanks, Gaynor!
So glad you are now collar-free. Enjoy your new freedom.
Thank you, Aurora!
This must feel great!
It really does! 🙂
Great news! So glad!
WAHOO!!! Freedom! Congratulations
That’s so wonderful! Hooray!
Happy you are doing well!
Awesome news!
Scent: accidental overspray from a spray of vintage Tabu in a black bottle. It started with quite a bit of cola, which I haven’t encountered in a while. This is an orphan that belonged to my MIL. Recent conclusion: the nearly-full bottle of perfume sitting around when someone is gone? Maybe that person wore something else. A bottle she almost used up: l’Aimant.
Jeans: every day. Not Levi’s, but if I found some that fit, I would be happy to wear them.
I believe I’ll follow Robin’s lead with Eau des Merveilles.
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche. This scent is so comforting to me, just like a comfortable pair of jeans. The jeans I am wearing today are chocolate brown.
Today, I go for my final fitting for my Mother of the Bride dress. Its getting close 🙂 !!
That’s so fun! Congrats!
How exciting, I bet you’ll look smashing.
Yay!
Happy Friday! In Kelly Caleche because I’m on an iris binge and Kelly wears jeans, carries a whip and takes no prisoners.
Also, I watched an interview with Jean Claude Ellena on French TV and I was mesmerized listening to him talk about fragrance, his early scent memories and the smell of death. Serious scent business.
The smell of death? Hmm… interested in hearing this interview but for the French.
Indole = smell of death. I read an interview with a perfumer developer once (don’t recall who) who said that Eternity was a perfectly named scent and that name combined with the eternal-love-theme of the marketing may have been something of an inside joke because the scent is heavy on indole and that is indeed what it would smell like if you spend an eternity with someone.
I’m wearing Eau des Sens today which is a very jeans-y type of scent, casual and easy. Love the juniper in this.
Looking forward to visiting with friends tonight in their backyard (ground floor apt) and new fireplace! Hot cocoa and good conversation, a great way to end the week.
I agree that that one is jeansy! You smell great.
Have a great visit with your friends.
Interpreting CP as casual, meaning easy to wear and to access, so nothing niche. Blue jeans, sweatshirt, NR For Her L’Absolu. I was looking for a decant of the original NR For Her EDT that I could have sworn I had, but I think I might have thunked it actually, so dug up up sample of L’Absolu. It swaps the orange blossom for tuberose.
I messed up on the “easy to find” part, looks like this is discontinued. Shame! A much nicer flanker than most at department stores.
L’absolu is my favorite of the For Her line. It still pops up on fragrance net occasionally.
Ahh, Levi jeans. Back when I was young, and THIN, Levi California Super Straight was my blue jean of choice. Today I’m wearing yoga pants?. But I dig out Jean Nate to bring back the memories. I’ve outgrown JN as well as my old jeans. Oh well, life moves on.
Your comment made me think of the immortal words of AC/DC (of all people)..
“I got patches/on the patches/of my old blue jeans/Well they used to be new/and they used to be blue/and they used to be clean.”
We all grow and move on…
?
Wearing Bvlgari Au the Bleu, one of my easy going, comforting scents, like jeans are. I wear jeans almost every day, even when I am in the office, except for the days when I have to attend meetings.
On my way out now to take a walk on another warm, sunny, beautiful day in NY and eagerly waiting for my order of Hot Tamales Fierce Cinnamon Peeps to be delivered today from Target. I hope they don’t disappoint!
Happy Friday, everyone! ?
I just love the idea of “fierce” peeps! Hope you love them!
Unfortunately, they are not fierce at all.
I hope you enjoy your “angry birds”, and your pretty weather!
Hee!
LOL! They were not angry, as I was expecting. I enjoyed my walk a lot, though!
I just bought these for my niece! She loves PEEPS and loves all the weird LE flavors.
“angry birds” now that’s funny
They are nice. I am sure she enjoyed them!
I must admit I stole that from someone here, Jalapeno, I think!
???! Sounds like something I’d say!
Hot Tamales Peeps! Those sound so fun. I hope your order arrives quickly.
Enjoy your ?
They are fun. I was expecting them to be at least a bit hot, but they are not at all. Nice cinnamon flavor though. I enjoyed my sun better!
Enjoy the peeps.
Thank you, Aurora! They are ok!
You are the residential peep expert!
I think my favorite is yellow. Stale of course.
LOL! I am a big fan of peeps! At the end, none of the crazy flavors beats the plain ones and blue is my favorite!
I *love* a good fiery cinnamon candy! Jelly Belly jellybeans used to have a supercharged version of their cinnamon. I haven’t seen it in a few years now.
I also love a good fiery cinnamon candy. That’s why am kind of disappointed with the Hot Tamales peeps.
In A Fuego Lento by Frassaï
Like Dilana, I count all fragrances as jean fragrances, probably because that’s what I wear on a regular basis! AFL is particularly fun though, and makes me think of a perfect pair of jeans that are flattering with all outfits, whether you’re sitting or standing.
Why is it so hard to find good jeans??? Even if I buy three of the same pair, one inevitably ends up being the “best”!
I’ve tried on three of the exact same pair of jeans in a store, same style and size, and they all fit differently. Also, and this is very important to me, they have different lengths. It’s never consistent. I feel your pain!
Heard that might have to do with several layers of denim being cut at once in the factory – if the blade thingie is at any sort of angle it will lead to different lengths and widths for the same size jeans.
Ahh, that makes sense, AnnieA!
Oh how interesting!
Finding one good pair of jeans usually means trying on a dozen or so, doesn’t it?
Good morning everybody! I’m in Atelier Mimosa Indigo on left wrist/right elbow crease and Lime Basil & Mandarin on right wrist/left elbow crease. They blend surprisingly well!
Even when I was skinny, I was too curvy to wear Levi’s. I wore Lee jeans a lot. Yay for the more defined waist!
I’ve been doing a deep clean of the fridge over the past couple of days. It feels so good to have it spotless. Also, the laundry is finally caught up after not being able to for two weeks. My life is sooo exciting. ?
My brother did a deep clean of his fridge from having no power for 6 days (Portland OR).
Oh, your poor brother! That must have been awful. Our power was definitely out a lot, but never for than a day or so at a time.
Getting caught up on laundry is SO satisfying!
That fridge deep clean and laundry sound like nirvana!
In Zoologist Musk Deer and grey jeans–sorry Levi’s–but they are from a brand called Level 99, and do have metal rivets. (They are very kind to my curves, which Levi’s have never been.)
A very very very generous NSTer sent me a trunk load of perfume samples of items I’ve been curious about–and I I have had to restrain myself from pulling a chocolatemarzipan (anyone heard from her lately? I hope she is okay!) and applying a dozen all at once. So far, the Musk Deer is lovely. I own a decant of Civet that I enjoy, and thought they might be similar. They aren’t.
Thank goodness this week is almost over. It is sunny and warm outside, the birds are singing their hearts out, and I plan to sign off work early!
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
You smell amazing!
No jeans for me today, and no CP either — I Shall Sample Til The Sample Sea Is Drained. Got some attars on deck for sampling, next. I think I can get thru alllll my remaining samples in just a few days.
So that means I have samples to give away! US only, NST regulars only, ping me at emc dawt 71 17 in the land of geee-mayle.
FREEBIES:
1. Mystery box #1 of samples, about 1 pound
2. Mystery box #2 of samples, about 1 pound
3. Elizabeth and James Nirvana French Grey (neroli/musk/lavender), 30ml spray, 99% full
SPLIT: one item from last weekend’s split still remaining
4. Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, 10ml manufacturer’s travel spray, new, $17 includes first class postage
Weighing my love of surprises with the fact that I don’t need any more samples….fun wins.
I’ll take one 🙂
I chose White Linen for the CP. Basically I made an outfit of a white button up shirt and blue jeans. ? I’m glad I enjoy aldehydes now, as they were a major no when I first got into perfume.
To clarify, the outfit is in my mind. I’m wearing my usual sweats since I’m working from home and it’s cold.
This made me laugh out loud!
Ha! I love your fantasy outfit
I think that’s such a classic combo and I have both the jeans and the shirts for it – but I never wear them together!
Hahaa, I so agree with you. Sweats always win out over jeans. Always.
Sometimes jeans = dressing up. Sweats are always casual!
Brilliant!!!
Dressed in jeans (Current Elliot, too spendy but they fit) and a blue-and-white striped jersey for the nautical look. Levis never fit me, which appears to be a common thing! They look great on others, of course. SoTD is my bluest, PdN Eau Provence. I love it, and maybe it will coax spring out of hiding.
So done with this week. Hub’s Covid test came back negative but we’re doing another few days of isolation to be super safe. At least the sun is out.
You smell good! I have that one and love it, but haven’t worn it in a while. Thanks for the reminder!
Glad to hear about the Covid test!
Glad to hear about the negative test result!
Excellent news!
So happy for the negative test results!
Guerlain Liu, because I decided I wanted to do the opposite of Jeans and pick one of my fancier scents. Ok, that even sounds lame when I type it! 🙂
I do own a lot of pairs of jeans, but haven’t owned Levis ones in a while. Wearing a pair of 7FAMK jeans today from the thrift store.
Having said that, I remember that used classic button fly 501s were THE THING in the 90s in Germany. They could go for over $100 in second hand stores, and enterprising friends with enough cash to fly to the States would actually import some back to sell here.
I remember wearing 501 jeans in the late 80ies in at least two sizes bigger and cinched in with a belt. All the rage in Germany….
Back in the day, the store’s here would put a limit on how many Levis one person could buy at a time. I think it was 6. To avoid the reselling.
My thought was to go back to the origins of the jeans as workwear for cowboys, farmhands and the like, so I dug out a sample of what I remembered to be one of the more faecal scents I’ve encountered so far – Papillon’s Salome. Smelling it on skin and following its development, I’m no longer quite sure if my choice really fit the idea, but, given that the remaining drops I have feel quite precious, I just have to go with it and enjoy the ride anyway …
Salome is awesome, but definitely not for wearing out of the house 🙂
I wore three sprays for work once, but next time I know better.
What happened tannina? Did it make an impression? ?
To me it did not smell fecal at all at the beginning, just very special and alluring. I could have worn it to work too without thinking much of it. Then after a few wears I started to picture ‘unwashed’ in my mind for some reason but I don’t know if I am being influenced by other opinions.
Animalics are weird! I usually like them but I am a bit scared people will chase me with sticks 🙂
It was just overpowering, I don’t mind animalics, but I think people could smell me from far away and even myself did not get noseblind.
You smell amazing! To me that one is less barnyard and more boudoir, but definitely a boudoir that has raised some eyebrows.
Went with Dior Addict today because of the deep blue bottle and cozy vanilla scent. Although for ultimate comfort I’m in yoga pants rather than jeans. Happy Friday everyone!
I considered wearing Dior Addict for the blue bottle!
?
Mmmm… you smell great!
Thanks lillyjo! I’m still getting whiffs of it.
Saturday morning, the sun is shining, just finished breakfast, I have a lovely sense of contentment as I contemplate perfume.
I’m wearing a dab from a recent sample, Liquides Imaginaires Desert Suave. It seemed far too sweet first time I tried it, but less sweet and more spicy this morning.
I haven’t had a pair of jeans since I last had a motorbike, and that was 17 years ago! I found a style of staight legged Levis that looked good, and were comfortable enough for riding when sturdy fabric is important, but I didn’t wear jeans otherwise. I recall scouring secondhand shops to find that particular style when Levi stopped making them.
Decided to go for a deep blue bottle to evoke new indigo jeans, with a choice of Nuit Etoilée or Hiris and the latter is what I’m wearing.
Both of those are great picks!
Thank you, I do love both, Nuit Etoilée is like a walk in a deep pine forest.

I had Levi’s at some points in the past but I gave them away. I still have quite a few pairs of jeans but my favorite one is very frayed at the bottom and has holes (through wear) in strategic spots. I have patches I can use but I have other things to do and I’ll probably end up wearing the jeans until they literally fall apart ?.
You smell great!
Thank you, apsara!
You smell great.
I signed up for the Sniffapalooza Diptyque class to get a sample of Orphéon which looks like it might be good…has tobacco and tonka. 🙂
Heh, I did too. I’ll see you there although I am usually video off!
I saw that email, but it seems like the events fill up so fast!
They do! I got closed out of the last one and when I saw the post on Instagram, I just kept refreshing my email and managed to get in!
I still have one pair of Levi’s that fit me on a good day! They’re a dark indigo bootcut with a high waist and plenty of Spandex/Lycra.
I love bootcuts and is the style of a few pairs I kept!
Another bootcut fan here.
I’m taking a different route to today’s cp and am thinking of the fabric itself that jeans are traditionally made of rather than the article of clothing because the cp reminded me of a very pleasant memory I’d almost forgotten.
The word ‘denim’ derives from French serge de Nîmes ‘serge’ (a heavy fabric) from Nîmes, a city in Provence near the Mediterranean Sea, historically known for its textiles. We visited Nîmes on the Viking River Cruise we took a few years ago to Provence, and I remember a delightful open-air exhibit there on the origin, history, and uses of this fabric initially created there.
I intended to wear Hermès Eau des Merveilles for its salty sea air association with the city, but at the last minute decided on a fragrance that sparked another favorite memory from that same trip and chose L’Occitane Delice des Fleurs. Its sweet confection of sugared rose petals and violet reminded me of the wonderful macarons we indulged in at Ladurée in Paris. Mmmmm! I also remembered I had some in the freezer and just took them out for dessert tonight.
Well, that was quite a strange journey I just took – from Levi Strauss to macarons! ?
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood here, too, bright sunshine and melting snow and lots of bird chatter. Spring is definitely in the air – at least for this weekend. Have a good one!
That was an interesting mental journey to get to a macaron fragrance, but it sounds like you had a very cool real life journey in France. 🙂
I remember being fortunate enough to find Laduree up in NYC some years ago. I would never have been able to enjoy their macarons otherwise.
I had my last Ladurée in Saint Tropez, and got a beautiful room scent (Poudre de riz) from there that I’d completely forgotten about now, and now have fallen down the rabbit hole of Ladurée room scents, candles and teas.

In case anyone wants to join me…
I love jeans but unfortunately Levi’s do not fit me very well. I stick to a couple of German brands that do fit me like I want them to.
SOTD is Rahele, living it and unlike some other Vermeires this one is so mellow and easygoing that I could wear it everyday.
Looked up Rahele and sounds lovely. I’ve been curious about Neela Vermiere, they sound like something very vintage in style with nice ingredients.
I don’t find them vintage at all. Beautiful and complex and exotic, but they do not remind me of classical perfumes.
Thanks! I’m totally biased by the aesthetics and random reviews I have read. I think I meant more of a classic ingredient use (at least I hoped for that).
I am a bit of a freak of ‘natural’ smelling things meaning by that no fancy aromachemical effects that seem to pop all the time in the newer perfumes.
These are beautiful complex perfumes, probably made with a mix of natural and synthetic ingredients. I think Luca Turin mentions in one of the perfumes guides that great perfumes tend tot be a mix. The synthetics providing the skeleton snd the naturals the flesh. On a more practical note: I believe there is a sample set.
Sure, and I don’t have a problem with synthetic per se (in fact most all natural perfumes just smell essential oil-y and not like perfume at all) but with newer molecules that to me always smell ‘artificial’. For some reason classic style perfumes (which does not mean natural) always work so much better so tend to pick and choose my brands to have better luck with sampling. It’s just my limited nose! I think Firmenich does things my nose does not like..
Cicely, I know exactly what you’d mean. I don’t like when the main construction of a perfume relies on heavy artificial smelling aroma chemicals. I found the Gallivant brand to smell in that exact way I don’t enjoy. I wouldn’t say that you have a limited nose. I say you know what you like and what works for you!
Thank you so much, therabbitsflower! It can be difficult to explain to those who haven’t experienced the same.
I’m so glad you are mentioning Gallivant as I was very close to getting samples but eventually didn’t in fear of that. Same thing happened to me recently with Zoologist with a couple of exceptions. It’s such a shame when a whole set of samples fails, just because of this issue!
Wearing Versace Pour Homme and Versace Man eau Fraiche on different wrists bc the sample bottles are indigo blue and denim blue, respectively, and bc I want to keep rolling with sample organization/purge project. To me, these are both clean summer scents. Something I’d wear with a crisp white cotton top.
I’ve been alternating between a pair of NYDJ and Kut from the Kloth high-rise skinny jeans since March while I WFH (and I recommend both brands to anyone looking for comfy plus-size jeans). Ordered a few pairs of boyfriend style jeans earlier this week after reading that skinnies are no longer fashionable, but honestly I was wearing bootcuts until 2014, so the fashionable boat sailed a long time ago.
Wait, bootcuts are out?? Oh dear.
Just wait, they’ll be back! I’ve never stopped wearing them, and never will, now that I see high-waisted jeans have come back as cutting-edge fashion statements. And who ever thought low-rise jeans were going to make a comeback??
I decided to go somewhat contrarian for the theme of blue jeans, so SOTD is Tiffany & Co. It is very elegant but wearable, i.e. one doesn’t feel as if one must be going out to wear it. And it includes a reference to blue, as in Tiffany Blue! Hoping that gets me at least partial points, lol.
P.S. My best “blue jeans” story happened several years ago, when my stylish, fun and cool younger sister (also a middle-aged mom like me) called me to announce that her idol George Michael was doing his first American tour in decades, he was coming to my city (not hers) and she would be arriving on a specific weekend to take me to his concert. I meekly agreed. When the weekend and my sister arrived, she wanted to know what I planned to wear, and I pulled out my trusty mom jeans and what I thought was a suitably “cool” top. Reader, she gasped. She immediately insisted that we go to any nearby boutique that sold non-mom jeans. I meekly concurred. She, and I, and my two teenaged daughters, descended on one such boutique. The whole store, it seemed, joined in with the quest to upgrade my jeans wardrobe. And so it was that I acquired the first pair of low-rise, bell-bottomed blue jeans I had worn since, oh, the early 1970s. BTW, the concert was an absolute blast. What a performer he was!
Love the story! Did you wear the EDT or the EDP? I think there’s an Intense version as well.
EDT! And yes, I have the Intense flanker and it’s my favorite.
AND you looked suitably retro hip!
lol, at least I passed my sister’s inspection! She’s a lot of fun, and the whole thing was very amusing though out of my comfort zone, as she well knew. My kids couldn’t believe she got me to wear those jeans AND go to a George Michael concert! Of course, first they had to figure out who he was …
That’s a great story! I went to a Motley Crue concert with my brother years and years ago – not music I particularly love, but he was stoked so off we went. He likes a lot of classic heavy metal/rock bands.
We were the youngest people in the venue by about 20 years.
Later that evening Motley Crue insisted on “riding” their motorcycles onto stage as per their glory days, but seeing as it was a medium-sized nightclub and not an arena, really they were just kind of carefully waddling them onto the smallish stage like young kids learning to ride a two-wheeler ?
Still, it was a great concert and we had a blast!
Late check-in! Nearly forgot. Happy FriYAY Y’all! 🙂
I went with Guess 1981 Indigo, because, well, Guess jeans, and indigo color. No brainer pick. Unfortunately I can’t smell this scent unless I put my nose to my wrists!
Anyhoo, I’m a high rise waist, boot cut gal….I’m all about a good fitting “mom jean” and wears jeans 6 days a week….
I wear whatever jeans fit when I need to buy some, and if you paid me I couldn’t tell you the brand I am wearing right now. I do wear low-rise because I’m short-waisted and the high rise ones make me look odd. I’m wearing Amouage Gold today because I like the juxtaposition of jeans and opulent fragrance.
I like the juxtaposition too! I’m not as bold as you, though — I thought about Amouage, maybe Memoir or Lyric, but went with Tiffany & Co. instead as that brand also evokes “blue.” You smell great!
Friday
payday
half work day
vaccine #2 tomorrow
off to get taxes done.
SOTD is Rose 31 plus Rose 31 lotion
Worked a project at Levi’s years ago. Love how they honor the history and brand in the building.
My jeans days are in the rear view mirror. After having abdominal surgery at 50 – waistbands are my nemesis. Good thing I wear black leggings every damn day of my life.
Good luck on the vaccine tomorrow! And more Rose 31 for you as I don’t get along with it.
I didn’t think I would like it even a bit, hajusuuri.
but I love it.
And I was the opposite, convinced that I would love it!
You had me humming until I hit “”get taxes done.” 😉
Oops. For Apsara!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/QQLWF_ItzYs
When I was in high school, the jeans of choice were Levi’s 501 shrink to fit. Those days are long gone! I prefer my jeans to have some Spandex in them now. ?
SOTD = Clinique Aromatics Elixir EdP. This has a “Classic American Style” feel to me, so it’s a perfect match for blue jeans.
I had exactly one pair of shrink-to-fits in my late 20s that fit me absolutely perfectly. I loved them, and always wore them over cowboy boots so they gradually became kind of a slim boot-cut shape – worked great for my body type then (short, slim and slightly hippy). Now, many (MANY) years later, I still stick with a slight bootcut if I can find it – it ends up looking like a straight-leg ought to (but doesn’t) look on me. (Foxbins, the “baby bootcut” silhouette is still “in” … I think.)
I’ve given up caring what’s “in” or “out” when it comes to jeans. I’m going to wear what looks and feels good!
Hear hear! I’ve got skinny, straight, mom jeans, wide legged and even a pair of harem jeans!
The only silhouette I don’t like is boot-cut: looks amazing on others, but somehow always sits weird on me.
Baby bootcut’s def a viable option! These are quite comfortable:
https://www.agjeans.com/the-angel-EMP101315YPTA.html There are plenty of AG Angels on ebay and they periodically show up on HauteLook or Gilt, so no need to fork over $215.
These days, I am usually in my hiking pants and these are what I will wear whenever we’re asked to report back to the office (no date yet).
Sweats are part of my daily “uniform”. I don’t care if I mess up a pair of “grubby” sweats. I would get quite upset if I messed up a favorite pair of jeans!
Mr. Jalapeno has been told that he will be back in the office in April. We shall see.
?for the song and perfume match!
It helps that I wanted to wear AE today!
SOTD Snowcake from Lush, my first true perfume love. It never fails me though I’ve worn it to death and treasure my 3 little bottles. They have removed it again from their website (Lush and their limited editions!)
I went with Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur for the easy-wearing, casual, jeans-and-a-tee-shirt vibe. Early on there was an incense note that I’ve never noticed before – incense isn’t one of its listed notes, so maybe it’s the cedar note combined with a little bit of suede and a little bit of smoke? Anyway, I love the scent, and am actually wearing jeans for the CP too.
Beautiful perfume!
I’ve always been in awe of people who can wear jeans and a clean white t-shirt and look like a million bucks. The white t-shirt is my nemesis – I can attract a coffee stain from 20 miles.
I wore Child to honor those white t-shirt & jeans people. It seems like a very California chic thing, and Child makes me think of early 2000s California, when fancy jeans were all the rage.
I have trouble with white shirts, too. I should know better than to even *think* about having tacos or BBQ when wearing white anything. That’s just asking for it!
I’ve taken to wearing an apron when eating – I’m tired of stains not coming off any color clothes!
I wish I had something Ralph Lauren to wear just because RL and Levi’s are such American companies in my mind, but since I don’t, I’m wearing Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser from an independent American perfume company. Forty years and umpteen pounds ago, I lived in Levi’s 501s but now everything I own contains spandex, thank goodness.
I do not own a pair of jeans anymore. I would like to make a pair of palazzo pants in indigo chambray, but I digress. Wearing Chris Rusak Io, a fragrance inspired by a hike in the foothills of arid Southern California, a walk definitely done in a favorite pair of blue jeans.
You smell nice!
Hello!
I’m wearing jeans, but not Levi’s. Lee jeans have styles that fit short round people, so that’s what I usually go with. lol. I don’t know what brand, if any, that I’m wearing today, but they have an elasticized waist with a drawstring that ties in a little bow. I sort of feel like I’m giving up by wearing jeans with an elasticized waist, but they are comfortable.
Have a good weekend, folks!
I have several pairs of Lee Jeans in my closet, too!
Comfort is highly underrated!! I love elasticized waists.
Well, yes. I’m sensitive to fabric textures and such, and tend to be happiest wearing soft cotton clothes. Silk feels nice, too, but I don’t have silk clothing. lol. Back in the days when I felt like I had to wear scratchy polyesters, I found the discomfort I felt terribly distracting. I do have some nicer clothes that are made of soft, breathable fabrics, and that works much better for me. Some pairs of what I think of as my “nicer” pants have elasticized waists, too. 😀
I was well aware from a young age of my sensory sensitivities about sound. I can deal much better if I’m in control of the volume of the sound, and what sort of sound it is.
It took me a while to realize how much better I felt in general when I was wearing clothes made of soft fabrics. I guess that’s a more subtle issue, in a way? For me, it was one of those things that once you make the connection, it explains a lot.
Please note that I wasn’t implying that anyone else here was short and round, just saying that that’s why Levi’s don’t work for me, and also that’s why the fit of some styles of Lee jeans do work well for me. 🙂
I wear jeans every day. Levis have never fit me well. I currently pick my jeans by if they fit good enough and price. Today I’m in skinny jeans, which I don’t care for, but they were only 2 dollars. Sotd is Narciso edp white cube. I thought it was a good match, but don’t actually have any reasoning for it.
I came home to more bad news in the mail. Essentially, I have lost a fight I’ve been fighting. I’m disappointed, and tired. I also found out the insurance company is trying to push my daughter out of therapy.
Aw, sorry to hear that today brought more bad news in the mail. Hugs.
Thanks jalapeno, I appreciate it!
Had to smile about your $2 jeans. I have a pair of Old Navy “rock star” skinny jeans I got off their clearance rack for $2. I love ’em! 😀
Sorry you had such a rotten day, lillyjo. I hope tomorrow is better!
So sorry about your crappy news. I also hope something can be done with the insurance company’s decision with your daughter. Sending you a hug and some fighting spirit to do whatever battle you need to.
SotD = Theorema
Haven’t worn this one in so long. Also wearing a pair of Levi’s 501 jeans I’ve had since high school. So soft and comfy and feeling like a FriYAY! 😀
I didn’t know that Absinthe Day was a day of celebration, but why not? lol
I’m aware of the scents of wormwood and southernwood (a couple of kinds of artemisia), and of course of anise and fennel. I’ll try to think of some fragrance I can associate with what I’ve read about “The Green Fairy” or the scents of the herbs in question.
