It's Tuesday, plus Candlemas / Groundhog Day. Birthdays: James Joyce, Stan Getz, Raven Wilkinson, Farrah Fawcett, Ina Garten (thanks for the broccoli recipe!), Brent Spiner. What fragrance are you wearing?
I slept late, so I'm in Hermès Kelly Caleche again, since there it was on my desk. Tea at the moment is a snowy weather blend, 1/3 each Numi Chinese Breakfast, random Assam from Upton, Mariage Frères Chandernagor.
Reminder: on 2/5, for National Grapefruit month, wear a fragrance with grapefruit; extra credit if Grapefruit (or Pamplemousse or whatever) is in the name of the scent. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Royal Copenhagen HAV porcelain teapot ("Inspired by the shape of a swimming duck // touchable fish scale pattern is spray-painted by hand in misty tones // Distinctive bronze handle") is $460 at https://www.bloomingdales.com/.
Rose Anonyme, on a whim. I just love it.
The snow is coming down thick and fast but I am in here baking a loaf of bread and a pan of rolls, so it can do just about anything it wants to out there as long as I have electricity. The place smells good, I smell good, there will be fresh bread soon — what more could you ask?
Everything about that sounds wonderful!
What you said.
You smell fab, love Rose Anonyme.
That all sounds perfect!
What time do you want us to come over? Roses and bread. I’ll just sit in the corner and enjoy the scents.
I’ll pick another corner, and we can chat!
You smell great and so does your house!
I have a recipe for French bread that only asks for one rise. I might just join you in bread baking today. ?
Sounds perfect to me!
Coooommming…. I’m commmmingggg. . . .
That sounds amazing!!!
Rose Anonyme is one of my favorite Atelier Colognes. ?
Rose Anonyme fans: if I am already loving Silver Iris and Oud Saphir, would a blind buy be successful? I’ve thinking about it….
I’d call Rose Anonyme a dark, dry, woody rose. Not sure it’s a safe blind buy, though. My $0.02 worth.
SOTD Jicky
You smell great!
Have you tried the new Chanel Le Lion? I did side by side comparisons with my Jicky edt and they were very similar.
I’ll have to give that a try! Though I only have a recent formulation EDP.
Side question, only considering current/recent formulations, not vintage: should one own both the Jicky EDT and the EDP?
I have the edt, and am not sure how it compares with the edp—but I love it. I prefer it to Le Lion–less stodgy, it has more going on and lasts longer, imho. If you want to do a swap to test the edp and edt side by side, ping me! I’m at ann dotty eisenberg attagirl comcast dotty net.
Definitely game for that! Will hit you up this evening when I can take some time for emails and such.
In Tauerville Rose Flash.
The massive snow storm is over, but it is still cloudy and windy. It looks beautiful outside thru the windows and the birds playing, jumping and singing on the snow is a very uplifting sight!
On my first cup of coffee with a peanut butter and jelly toast and back to my work/home desk.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ☃️
You smell great! Must wear that one again one of these days..
Thank you! ?
You smell wonderful! I love PBJ toast. The challenge is to eat it up quickie like a bunny before the jelly slides off. ?
Thank you! ?
Lol! So true! I wish I could eat it slower to enjoy it more, but that’s impossible! ?
Beautiful here too, and still light out at 5:15, which makes me feel like spring is coming even if groundhog did not agree!
I am so grateful we are starting to see more light again!
The best part of it is the light for sure! I want to think that Phil was just confused with too much snow and made a mistake. Spring is around the corner! ?
Phil must have been hungover. We’ve all been there. Mistakes happen. Spring will definitely come early… *crosses her fingers*
??
It was so pretty outside this morning with all the tree branches coated in white, wasn’t it? No birds for me, though.
It was lovely! Especially when blue jays and cardinals showed up!
Lucky you, having blue jays around! I haven’t seen one in ages.
I’m wearing Bruno Fazzolari Zdravetz, which is supposed to have grapefruit, although I don’t smell it. Interesting fragrance. Anyone else worn this?
I haven’t because someone whose perfume tastes I trust said it was a scrubber. I’m a wimp.
How do you find it?
It’s interesting. When I put it on it was not good, but it ended up being one one of those scents that you smell and wonder what smells so good only to realize it is you. it reached this stage about 15 minutes after spraying. I think it is worth a decant.
I tried it last year, from the Fzotic Scentbridge project that hajusuuri coordinated. I found it hard to wear. My text to Calypso: “It’s hurting my head; do you get something industrial, like glue?”
The drydown was a little woodsy, but it wasn’t worth gritting my teeth through the process to get there.
Definitely interesting.
I tried it and it was a hard no.
I’m in Demeter Christmas Bouquet, in unintentional honor of Candlemas. This cheap and cheerful fragrance is to my nose a room full of burning licorice candles. Are licorice candles even a thing?
Oh they most certainly are. (https://sierramtncandles.com/shop/candles-and-melters/seasonal/fall-and-halloween/black-licorice-scented-candle/)
I have not tried that Demeter but if licorice doesn’t bother you, you really ought to try their Licorice, which smells astonishingly like those licorice pipes and cigars. It’s one of their most realistic recreations.
I would love to burn a licorice candle but I fear a rebellion would ensue! So about these Sierra Mountain candles, I am already lemming the pine one….
Looks like a potentially nice candle company…any experience with their products?
Thank you for the link!
I just shuddered involuntarily at so much as the thought of licorice candles. Ugh!
Ha, send yours to me 🙂
I’m with you on the licorice.
That teapot is my everything. *swoons*
SotD Dua Aoud Bleu Intense. It reminds me of the Blue Grotto off Capri, which I was lucky enough to visit in 2014.
Unsolicited/unaffiliated plug for those that work out:
My best friend tuned me in to an amazing *and free* app called Wild AI that helps you adjust your exercise/training intensity during the different phases of your menstrual cycle.
It helps you track your nutrition, sleep quality, stress levels, etc and suggests different training volumes and recovery approaches as your hormone levels shift. I’m just a few days in but so far really loving it!
Exercise, I need to do more of that!
OMG – Iv been wondering if such a thing exists! Cool!
What a beautiful teapot!
I’m in Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose for credit and extra credit today. I’ve got a good cup of coffee in my hands, a sweet cat on my lap, and a problem I have no idea how to solve on the computer in front of me. Let’s call this a medium good start to the day.
Maybe a brief break from being in the orbit of the computer? Having a coffee&cat pause…
Hope you have solved your problem by now Koyel, since I am so late chiming in today 🙂
I have not, and am therefore much more panicked than I was 8 h ago! o.o but thank you for the kind wishes!
Oh dear. Well now it is the 3rd (still running late here) so will have to see if you have updated on another poll.
I did not! Still perishing under the weight of unsolved mysteries. But thank you for checking in 🙂
Drat. Very good luck to you.
Musc des Sables (Les Indemodables) which I think will keep me interested throughout the day. So far, so good!
Nice.
You smell fantastic. That’s my favorite from the line.
Cold and rainy today, I’m in Diptyque Eau Capitale.
We have rain coming later in the week, & presumably it will wash away some of the snow, we’ll see!
Kiehls Musk today. It’s 16F right now but so warm on my porch in the sunshine that I wish we would have kept just one window with screens and not storm windows. Not that I’m complaining! Bright sunshine on snow is a rare winter gift. Stay safe everyone!
It is suppose to be frigid next week! I hope the sun sticks around!
I like frigid in winter but no more than a few days if possible. Cold temps and snow are great in February but not in April.
You smell great! Yeah that tradeoff of “it’s too cold to snow, but you get just glorious sunshine as a result” is one I actually appreciate – especially if it’s snowed beforehand!
Meanwhile snow is DUMPING outside right my window now, they’re predicting about 7″ in total today. I did groceries (walking) and will need to hop to the bank and my training site via metro in another two hours.
Thank goodness for snow boots!
Use caution walking! I love the feel of snow in my face though. We were supposed to get 8-10″ over the weekend but only got 4″.
You smell wonderful!
SOTD is Ella K Baiser de Florence. A full bottle with discount is in my online shopping cart, but I haven’t decided yet. I bet that when I decide I want it, it is sold out..
Dithering saves money!
You are so right!
*Snort*
I subscribe to this philosophy.
Unless you happen to find the perfume again on eBay for more money…
Part of the trick is to keep right on dithering, LOL…if you dithered once you can do it again!
Nocturine Oriental tea by MF
SOTD Basil Neroli one spray and Ninfeo Mio one spray
Mariage Freres has excellent teas, although I don’t know this one. MF is one item I buy on my travels, so perhaps it’s time for me to find out whether a (no doubt fancy) local store stocks it.
I just love MF although I tend to buy only their flavoured teas. They seem to have been one of the few places that were selling some 2020 first flush Darjeelings.
Spending some time in Nasomatto Nuda and enjoying having a day off. It’s definitely an Amouage afternoon when I get into the shower. Lyric or Beloved but I am leaning towards Lyric. We didn’t get a whole lot of snow and most of the storm passed us and was more in mid or Southern Ohio. After that previous storm knocked out power for two days, I will take it not getting a ton of snow.
How is Nuda?
It’s a huge jasmine perfume. Don’t know why it was discontinued. Good thing that I bought a backup when I did.
Oh! Thanks for letting me know. I think I confused it with a floral with a similar name…
It’s such a good jasmine. Not buying a bottle while it was around is one of my big perfume regrets.
SOTD is Marc Jacobs Decadence, grabbed from a pile of samples. I don’t like the opening, I think it is the Iris that bothers me. The dry down is not compelling; I get wood and some vanilla but no richness or depth, which is ironic given the name.
Snowflake tea again today because the snow keeps coming.
I was going through a ‘try all the department hits’ phase and found Decadence abhorrent! Not sure what note repelled me though since I’m ok with all notes listed ??♀️
I have a shoebox full of samples, mostly from Department Stores and Sephora. I know I won’t love 99% of them, and probably won’t even like at least 50%, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of them without trying each one in case I really truly love that 1%. So I’m forcing myself to try, describe, and either keep (and wear) or rehome.
I used to just test from the testers at department stores – way less pressure, I guess! Even found a few I like ?
I am one hundred per cent in your situation. I have so many samples (mostly from Luckyscent, but also quite a lot of commercial samples) that I haven’t even tried, and I can’t bring myself to get rid of them, because what if I love one of them and just don’t know it yet?
The evil flip side of that is because everything is reformulated all the time these days, I might fall in love with something that is no longer what it was. That happened with ELdO Eau de Protection: I have a bottle of it which I like, but I stumbled across an old Luckyscent sample from when it was new, and that was *so much better*. It made me really sad.
If nothing else, I always learn something from doing this kind of project (about my preferences or notes or whatever). Plus I think it’s fun as long as I keep it to just a couple to try per day.
It takes me so long to go through samples cuz I feel like I have to dedicate a whole day to it or I’m not giving it a fair shake. Unless it’s just awful – which is how I remember MJ Decadence being
Nope nope nope nope nope. All that time you could be enjoying something lovely! Something meh is not worth seriously contemplating all day 😀 😀 😀
I hated it, too! A friend wears one of the flankers, though, and I love how it smells on her, like bananas and perfume.
That’s interesting! I just remember thinking it smelled vile in an emerald green way because I did not like the bottle/handbag concept either 😀
That’s funny! I am not the target market for gimmicky bottles, either. Give me a plain label on a plain bottle any day.
MJ Decadence has something in it that bugged me when I tried it, too. I ended up rehoming my sample to a friend.
After yoga I’ll put on OJ Osmanthus which LuckyScent says has a pomelo note in the opening. I’m going to say that counts as grapefruit!
And I’m going to eat half a grapefruit with breakfast and then put on my Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm which has both grapefruit and lemon peel oil as well as honey and is just amazing. Happy Tuesday!
I’m just calling it, you’re CP champion for the day!
Ha – no, just having fun.
That lip balm sounds wonderful!
I use it every night and morning. It lasts fairly long. Such a treat.
It is fantastic. Very thick, almost a paste, doesn’t melt in, but you put it on before bed and it’s still there in the morning. And it really works. It’s the only lip balm over about $5 that I’ve ever thought was worth the money. (I stupidly bought the L’Occitane Multi-balm on vacation and it dried my lips out so much I had to jettison it.)
Yes, AND it tastes good!
Happy Tuesday!!!
I am trying Angels’ Share today from a most generous NSTer and it is very good. Booze, apple, spice, vanilla, amber and wood…not necessarily in that order. 😉
I know there was a feeding frenzy for this one and it appears to still be sold out everywhere.
I’m thinking I might start looking at the Killians if they come in refills… Are those refills sprayable though?
No, you have to get a sprayer for them.
Can you dab it from the refill bottle?
Not that finding atomisers is difficult but just wondering about the mechanism.
I suppose you could, but the opening is a little wide. I pour my refills into atomizers.
Thanks for the heads up!
Oooh, I’ve had a sample of Angels’ Share in my ebay cart for a while now. It sounds so delicious, I’m off to complete the sale.
I don’t know if you saw my post yesterday to your Happyland question. Check out TLTG reviews on youtube. He has many overviews on the brand. I think there might also be discount codes. ( no affiliation)
Thanks, lillyjo, I missed that! I will check out those videos…researching and trying new perfume is almost like a full time job.?
She-ra, is the y prominent on your skin? I have issues with apple sometimes.
It’s more like apple brandy or apple wine than how apple often smells in perfume…at least to my nose.
Sorry She-ra – I hadn’t seen your response here. Is it at all like Back to Black?
Thank you, She-ra! I’ll put this on the sample list, thanks to your advice.
It is quite popular…I’ve seen it go in and out of stock at ScentSplit.
Apple 😮 The only Killian I’ve tried is Back to Black and the apple stopped me trying any other Killian for years… I was just thinking Angel’s Share sounded like the brand was worth another try… But apple…
I agree, Merlin. I can eat apples all day every day, but I don’t much care for fresh apple in my fragrance.
I feel the same way about apple! Eating is great, on my skin it’s a hard nope.
In theory it sounds good, but I couldn’t bear either the candied apple of Traversee d’Bosphore or the baked apple of Back to Black…
As an update I see it is in stock at Nordstrom now…no affiliation just more obsessed than usual with perfume and associated research right now. 😉
That sounds so awesome!
I’m in Baum du Doge and relishing its orangey richness. We’re having gorgeous weather with clear blue skies in the 60s, sunshine, and many flowers. One of the reasons to live in Houston (but August is not!). I am waiting for a plumber to come and very tired of washing a few dishes in my powder room sink while the kitchen one is backed up. Yuck to this. Hoping to get back to normalcy and cooking things again soon. I look forward to a Zoom cocktail hour with several good friends later this afternoon and even decided to dress up for it–have been finding lovely vintage scarves on Etsy lately and it’s so fun–and not expensive–gorgeous perfect condition silk scarves for as little as $10! I used to find them sometimes in thrift stores but am not going into those right now.
When I lived in Houston my parents came to visit every late February and March, to feel the perfect weather and enjoy the azaleas. Lovely.
February and March are truly beautiful in Houston. Last year, we were blessed with very nice weather into May, which was very unusual.
Have fun at your happy hour! I bet your scarf is gorgeous. Sorry about your sink.
You smell fantastic Calypso, and hope the plumber has been and gone and fixed everything.
Grrr, plumber got delayed until tomorrow 8 a.m. ! Zoom cocktail hour was great and my friends oohed and aahed over my scarf!
Argh! I will have to check on the Weds poll, hopefully *now* he has been and gone.
Scent: Nicolai l’Eau Mixte. I think I’ve got enough options to do a different grapefruit every day!
Tea: Harney White Vanille Grapefruit.
Love that one, you smell great!
Scentless (and very lazy) so far this morning, but I have my eye on Jour d’Hermes for today. That teapot is gorgeous!
The teapot seems to be a hit! Spendy, though, ack.
After I shower it will be a Chance Eau Tendre, from a free carded sample that came with my Christmas gift of Gabrielle Essence. Isn’t it interesting how citrus fruits are winter fruits, but we tend to wear citrus scents in summer…..
Walked up to the local drugstore chain that gives people over 55 29% off in the first Tuesday. Which is nice, except when that falls in the day after a big snowstorm. Nothing I needed was in the shelf, so I walked back out. Only one corner was treacherous to navigate. No choice but to wade through the pond of melted dirty snow. Bad form by those businesses on that block.
This Chance flanker does have a nice grapefruit note. It also blends well with the Body Shop Satsuma shower gel I used.
Love Satsuma – in fact I used some of the beautifying oil today. Its been discontinued for ages so Im not thinking how old the bottle is 😮
LizzieB, I saw your comment about green chili earlier this afternoon, and wanted to tell you that I got the chiles from Costco. They were in a jar from a brand called 505 Southwest.
SOTD: Rose 31
Played in the snow yesterday, very pretty.. now ready for it to leave.
Ha!?
You smell nice.
Nice teapot!
SOTD = Puredistance White
Rose, sandalwood, patchouli, tonka. Love ?

We have 2 feet of ❄️ already and it’s been snowing on and off. I will go out to shovel after my next and hopefully last Zoom call!
In other news, I thought I was being smart last evening by sautéing shrimp for use in the next 2 days. Since one is not supposed to refrigerate hot food, I left it on the counter. It was still there this morning ?. Moving on …
I hope you tossed it! I put a towel under the hot dish & stick it in the fridge anyway. As long as the food is in a thin enough layer to cool off quickly it’s okay.
It’s now in the fridge and I will toss it on garbage day. I don’t think I will get to my garbage bin though but I hope they pick up of the bag is left in a prominent spot.
Oh no! That’s a real shame.
They were the 10-15 count per pound shrimp and most of them shrimp were on the bigger end too ?
That is something I would do! And my husband would eat it anyway.
Ha, ha Robin: that happens in our house too: my husband’s influence made me taste that 3-years expired peanut butter yesterday (don’t ask) but we have so far lived to tell about our “extreme leftovers” experiences. But sorry about the shrimp, H!
I think my worst was 2 year old chocolate.
Glad you lived through it! Next time say no!
Oh, oh, a human “garbage disposal”!
Yep.
Aw, that’s a shame about the shrimp!
It was painful seeing the bowl this morning.
Oh no, too bad. You need some cats to help with that.
My kittehs don’t eat but you’re right. My sister keeps saying I should get a pet and I always ask if she will drive here to walk it every time it needs to go out ?
Oh noooooo! That’s the worst, I do that all the time with food, some things I’ll eat anyway but seafood would not be one. I commiserate and mourn the loss of your shrimp!
Ouch is right. This was the first time I did it and I hope the last time!
Such a shame about your shrimp! I hate wasting food. ?
I’m in JM Assam & Grapefruit today, very refreshing. More tea than grapefruit, and it reminds me of Assam of India. As Ina the birthday girl would say, “that’s a good thing”.
Tea of the morning is the usual, Taylor’s Scottish breakfast + chai from Republic of Tea.
Oh good call, I will have to see if I have any A&G left.
How can tea mix with grapefruit? Sounds so weird to me!
Well, if you think about drinking tea with lemon, it’s just a step away from that scent profile.
I can send you a sample of Assam of India if you like! The notes are lemon, tea and sandalwood. ?
Wearing Cuir Fetiche for a cold post-snow day. I took a walk in the mostly deserted park last night, with well over a foot of snowfall, and it was glorious.
I’ve been trying out various scents to see if I can get a go-to cold weather one. Sycomore is great, and so is Cuir Fetiche. I thought Salome would be better in the cold than it is.
I enjoyed Sycomore yesterday, especially the dry down.
Now for the psychologically harder samples to use up: Oud Satin Mood. Have to keep telling myself I now have two whole travel sprays…
Oh just use it and enjoy it! Savor it! Bathe in the luxury!
SOTD is Ubar. No grapefruit, but there is lemon, so maybe quarter points.
That’s a beaut!
Lots of rosiness onhere today! I’m joining in with Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy Extreme, which is the same as the original (neroli/orange blossom marshmallow) with a dollop of Bulgarian rose. It is absolutely lovely. I smell the rose distinctly for the first couple of hours, then in the far drydown the original scent comes forward.
Yikes, now lemming this!
It is in stock at Nordstrom & Kilian, probably Saks too.
Also lemming this. I never had the original but I see comments on Fragrantica that the original was reformulated. Perhaps I will skip and move straight to the Extreme then. 😉
I love the original Love, don’t be shy. This one sounds great as well.
Oooh, that sounds nice. Why is everyone making Kilian scents sound so great today?
I am also lusting after this, for inexplicable reasons, since I’ve only tried the original twice and found it nice but not nice enough to own. I wish this came in a travel size, I would blind buy with no hesitation!
Hello all! It’s Tuesday
1) The morning started off with sunshine, but rainy clouds has rolled in and started drizzling again. I got in a few minutes of sun salutations and will complete my flow session later. We are supposed to get THUNDERSTORMS!
2) SOTD is Brazilian Lime from Beauty Pie- just the thing for earlier this morning at least!
3) I really wish people would remember their high school business writing courses and write emails in a manner in which I did not have to guess or postulate what they want and need. UGH.
#3 – reminds me of a very recent NYT article on Artificial Intelligence being used to predict probable onset of Alzheimer’s. Interesting read but I feel there are flaws to data collection.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/01/health/alzheimers-prediction-speech.html
Re #3 – Yes! And also, please read my entire email. I keep them succinct, but if you don’t read it all, you’ll miss important points!
Yes, THIS!
My entire morning is sometimes wasted with this, and this year’s goal is make my partner communicate BETTER!
Sotd is Musc Invisible.
I haven’t checked the news yet to see whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow but I don’t really care because for the last 2 mornings I have heard birds! Singing! In the dark! Lol, so I know spring is coming.?
6 more weeks of winter but then again, it is 40% right, on average ?
I’m still trying to figure out how on earth that groundhog could have possibly seen the sun! ??
Hmmz grapefruit right? ….. I need to dig up my sample of Monserrat (by Bruno Fazzolari). I wore it once, cant remember what it was like ?
This morning I wore Nomade Absolu by Chloe. Now that was a bit of an impulse buy
Of all the Nomades its the one I liked the most. It has a bit more oomph and more green feel than the original. And Yeah its lovely but its still not very outspoken, original or memorable, to be honest.
I guess bought it mostly for that cute bottle (30ml) ? ?
Oh well, it will be a perfect office scent (if I ever get to work in an office again in 2023 or something hahahahaha ?.
I never do that btw, buying stuff because bottle looks cute… Was this a case of lockdown fatigue resulting in impulse buys? ?
Hmmzz Some reviewers say its mossy, but it smells mossy-ish at most imo
so after a late afternoon run and a warm shower I put on the real deal when it comes to moss… Jubilation 25! ?
Yay for Jubilation 25! 🙂
Jubilation 25 is amazing!
I wore the Jubilation 25 body cream yesterday and it was wonderful!
Ooh Nomade Absolu was my SOTD yesterday. And I agree it’s the best of the 3, and also agree it’s good but not amazing. And certainly not much of a chypre! I don’t really know why they like to tout Nomade as as “modern chypre” since I highly doubt that’s a selling point for most perfume buyers these days.
Now Jubilation 25 is something I’d really like to try!!
“Without even knowing it, you have been seduced by Pierre Dinand. Or at least his work. As the world’s premier fragrance-bottle designer, Dinand, a vibrant and still working 89-year-old, has created some of the most iconic bottle designs in perfume history.”
His opus includes the iconic bottles of YSL Opium, Calvin Klein Obsession for Men, and the original Armani in 1982. Now, he is revisiting La Perla with a new bottle for their limited edition La Perla 1986.
Now that is career longevity!
https://editorialist.com/fashion/on-the-scent-with-la-perla/
And wearing Parfums de Nicolaï Angelys Pear, which I like very much.
I like it too!
Oh thats nice to have a name with those iconic bottles.
Thanks ?
There’s more, in Architectural Digest of all places:
https://www.architecturaldigest.in/content/pierre-dinand-designer-iconic-perfume-bottles/
Thanks! ?
OMG, there is a list on his website through the 1990s.
https://www.pierre-dinand.com/Images/listperfume.pdf
I like La Mia Perla which has a really pretty bottle too but not sure who designed that one…
I’m wearing TF Fleur de Chine this morning. Worst competition show ever = The Pack on Amazon Prime. Sooooo slowwwww. Dim-bulb contestants, Lindsay Vonn as a terrible host (and horrible wardrobe choices for her) and I stuck it out for the whole first episode. They canceled Mozart in the Jungle to make this kind of stuff??
It’s hard to remember a time when it was just Survivor, The Bachelor, and American Idol, isn’t it? They’ve got a competition show for everything now. Scrolled by glass blowing the other day.
The glass-blowing one is really good!
I’ve spent a fair portion of the morning making red construction paper hearts for my son’s school Valentines, so I’m in a lovely-Valentinesey mood and spritzed on some Lyric so match. I’m afraid I tend to save this perfume for special occasions, like it’s a ball gown, but I really should wear it more often. It was my hurrah-for-giving-birth present to myself five+ years ago, and it goes just fine with jeans.
Oh how sweet! Hope he is helping ?
I think I’m in BDK’s Nuit de Sable, although I’m getting a whiff of something that hints at saffron? The label washed away, so I am not entirely certain. I smell lovely tho.
And that is all that matters.
Missed a few days….it be like that sometimes! 🙂
Wearing Nicole Richie’s Nicole. It’s fruity, ambery, and lasts all day. Always a good one!
I just read that Dolly Parton is releasing her own perfume in July, with samples after a commercial airing on SuperBowl Sunday? SIGN ME UP and TAKE MY MONEY! 🙂
“Here you come again . . .Just when I’m about to get myself together, you waltz right in the door, just like you’ve done before . . .
And wrap my heart ’round your little finger.. . .”!!!!!
I saw a comment that said she should have named it “Jolene”…. HA HA HA HA Maybe a flanker? 🙂
I luuurve that song. But seriously, many of her songs make great perfume names!
Here you come again
Dumb blonde
9 to 5
Applejack
Blue smoke
Last thing on my mind
Silver dagger (maybe my favorite of hers)
And of course–Cologne https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWFJ8tD0hm0&feature=emb_logo
You are so right! I vote for Blue Smoke.
I will happily blind buy her perfume at some point. Because Dolly!!!!
What Jadin said!!!!
Wearing Terre d’Hermes instead of Biarritz since I grabbed the wrong sample.
The birds were chirping like crazy here too. I think it was because the sun finally showed up this morning and probably inspired them. Spring has to be on the way!
I hope so!
You’re on theme!
I’m wearing 3 sprays of OJ Ta’if, because it’s gorgeous, and because I can.
Yep, you smell great.
Sample day! I’m trying Chameleon, because I’m feeling something summery while it’s still hideously cold out. I don’t really like the salted coconut business (not a coconut lover to begin with) but I’ll give it another chance come summertime.
And Sundance updates, day 5:
Marvelous and the Black Hole – a charming coming of age story about an angry thirteen year old who befriends an aging stage magician. Slight, but heartwarming, and some welcome levity because the other two I saw yesterday were not easy watches…
Mass – This one is a chamber drama about the confrontation between the parents of a school shooter, and the parents of one of his victims. Heartbreaking with fantastic performances, and commendable for remaining sticky throughout and not going for easy answers and obvious catharsis. Stunning work, even if it made me feel guilty for thinking Jason Isaacs is hot while his character is going through unimaginable grief.
Judas and the Black Messiah – One of the only mainstream studio films playing the festival, and it’s shocking that it got studio funding at all given how excitingly uncompromising it is. Daniel Kaluuya plays Fred Hampton in the time leading up to his assassination by the FBI, as told through the perspective of the feds’ man on the inside. Electrifying and vital, with the most bruising “biopic pre-credits postscript” bit I’ve seen in a long, long time. My favorite so far.
The second two sound like must-sees – though not easy ones.
2nd that.
If you don’t hear Daniel Kaluuya’s name at the Golden Globe nominations tomorrow, I’ll eat my winter boots.
Histoires des Parfums’1876. Which may have grapefruit somewhere ???? but is mostly ????and ??(this is meant to mean spices)
Mata Hari!
Ah, the Colette must have grapefruit…I wonder if I have a drop left somewhere.
Yep, I love it. It’s incredibly comforting, which is what I seem tot be craving right now. The Colette is very Nice as well, as is the George Sand.
They need a “famous women” coffret.
I started the day with whatever I grabbed from the sample bag, which turned out to be Iris Prima. Lovely while it lasted, but I’ve since added some Rogue Tuberose and Moss.
I will need to plan for grapefruit later in the week. Juggling the kid and teaching from home on these “snow days” has left me teaching for whatever is handy in all things.

Sunny and mild today, nothing like the sun. if It’s the same tomorrow, I’m planning to go to the park tomorrow evening, maybe.
In Weil Suki Essence, a sweet incense, very affordable, and very lovely, if you love your incense do consider it, I don’t know of any perfume quite like it.
You smell wonderful! I’m going to get my bottle out…
Thank you, so glad you have it too, it’s the perfect season for it.
This one sounds delicious!
It is, Merlin, if you like a sweet tempered incense it’s a must-have, an unsung gem.
Sample day – I’m wearing NARS’ Audacious. I’m always surprised not to hear more people wearing this –
It’s a tropical flowers x incense scent from Olivia Giacobetti. Maybe it’s poor longevity and high price are to blame? At any rate, it’s gorgeous for the 3 hours it sticks around.
Stay safe and warm! Taco Tuesday tonight. ?
Ugh. Incorrect form of its. Sorry!
I’ve been waiting to hear a report on this one. It’s nowhere to be found in my area. Sounds good ?
I got a sample when I ordered a lipstick directly from NARS. I love their lipsticks, so it was a double win.
In Antonia’s Flowers – it’s an older tester from my local perfume shop so it’s a bit off, like the beautiful bouquet of Freesia is now slightly wilted.
Along with the freesia, jasmine, magnolia and lily, there are “fruity notes.” Probably not grapefruit but it could be.
Very cool teapot, Robin! But oy vey! That price tag!
Still snowing where I am at. I was shocked when Mr. Jalapeno told me that we had received 9.1 inches! We weren’t anywhere close to that last night. ?⛄
Both the snow plow and the landscape guys with the snow blower did show up this afternoon. I shoveled the front steps, and Wow! That snow weighed a TON! It’s really wet, and I was only picking up about half of a shovel’s worth each time. I felt rather out of shape when I was done.
SOTD = back in Alien Le Gout du Parfum/A Taste of Fragrance EdP.
I did quite a bit of digging, moved my car so my space can be plowed. I hope I don’t need my car until Saturday but I heard we’re in for another round of the white stuff.
Regarding the tuna poke bowl, I was initially perplexed when you said it was spicy and then I realized you must have used the sauce that came with it! I tasted it the first time I had a tuna bowl and decided I prefer using wasabi (spicy but more of a nasal spicy) and a twist of lime.
In Modern Muse Nuit today: I am a fan of the original and always my lemming is sniffing around for Noir and Nuit flankers! Got a BNIB on E**y; it did not disappoint this EL Fangirl. Heliotrope and an all-day presence (not quite as much oomph as I normally expect from the brand) made this a happy blind buy. In other lemming news, I finally snagged Alien Eau Sensuelle. The irredescent LVeB flanker article revived my interest, and in my favor, I will say I remember really liking a *sample* I got for it in the mail from somewhere! So, at least I sampled before the bottle entranced me. I will report back. Off to read comments: hope the snow storm NST’ers – and their neighbors – don’t lose power!!
I’m wearing Opium edt for my first night back to work.
Great pick for winter weather! Have you ever tried it in the summer?
Are you being bad ? ?
Yum! You are smelling fantastic!
Good evening (on the East Coast, U.S.)!
This week is a project that I’m equipped to do, and I have yet to put a grapefruit scent on. Maybe I’ll do Pamplemousse tonight. 🙂
Bedtime last night’s scent was the solid perfume version of Lush’s 1000 Kisses Deep. I smelled a kind of camphor(?)/patchouli(?) note for a while, but it settled into something more mellow fairly soon. I could still smell it this morning, but I think it was more of a skin scent by then. I think it will be something I have to be in the mood for, but when I am in that mood, I’ll really appreciate it. 🙂
I enjoy a camphor-laden patchouli when I am in the right mood. Time to go hunting in the Sample Stash…
The NST review said 1000 Kisses Deep was a citrus and smoke scent. I’d go with what that review says, 🙂
Czech & Speake Dark Rose
Between yesterday and today, I’ve thunked samples of: Cuir de Russie, Demeter Russian Leather, Cuir Ottoman, Azemour les Orangers, and Les Indemodables Cuir de Chine. Most were barely dregs—but dregs still to be smelled!
A few more samples arrived today, making me think of Kevin’s article. Definitely on a sample buying moratorium for a while. The backlog is embarrassing.
One of the new samples today was Snowy Owl. Pass for me. Completely inoffensive, not worth wasting my limited sniffing time on. I don’t get much mint, just a pale watery green note that makes me think of cucumber water, not that it actually smells like cucumber.
Another (gift with purchase) sample was Kerosene Follow. Too food-literal gourmand for my tastes (only tested on paper). Caramel crunch ice cream.
Wow, that’s a lot of thunking between just two days! Do you plan to buy more of any of those?
They were all seriously on their last legs. I was going for thunk volume so targeted the nearly dead.
As for purchases… Ahem… well… I have another small decant and FB of Cuir de Russie, FBs of Cuir Ottoman and Azemour, and I did just order a decant of Cuir de Chine. So I was hitting up much loved scents, which explains the thunking.
Heh I end up in the same situation often. I’ll upgrade to a decant or bottle before even finishing the sample.
I initially read the first “thunk” as “de-thunk”, which, in some ways, seems appropriate with your decants ?
Now I’m hearing “de-thunk a thunk thunk” with a funky backbeat. New theme song!
So late to post but I wore Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be, which incidentally has a grapefruit note (but ylang ylang is the star). It was calling my name after I used my Klorane Ylang Ylang shampoo this morning after putting it away at the end of the summer.
Wow, I may even have Nosy Be but I probably won’t be able to find it …
Another late poster here!
My SOTD was a sample of Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. I think this was overhyped for me. The name is so good but the scent ….
I will wear Bengals Rouge tonight. I really need something good and cozy!
