Wednesday scent of the day 9/30

Posted by Robin on 30 September 2020 197 Comments

Hump Day and International Translation Day. Plus, it’s the last day in September — don’t forget your rabbits tomorrow (and Donatella will be dropping by). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Brin de Réglisse, which smells like a good fit with the song although I will need a latte before I can tell you why.

Reminder: on 10/2, our subject is On the back roads by the rivers of my memory...do what you like with the lyric from the 1968 song Gentle on My Mind. Suggested by Mossyberry.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    VCA Bois d’ Iris.
I finally(!) got an email from Ticketmaster about the concert my daughter and I were supposed to go to in May. It has been rescheduled for October of 2021. That will be almost two full years from when I bought the tickets. I guess good things come to those who wait…? Hopefully my daughter is still a Tame Impala fan in another year, lol.

Same here with the rescheduling. My sisters and I were supposed to go on a Tauck tour that included going to Oberammergau in Germany for the Passion Play which happens every 10 years. The bad news is it was rescheduled to 2022; the good news is it was not rescheduled to 2030 🤣

This must be international rescheduling day. I got a notice from Evenko that my Ludovico Einaudi concert from May has been officially cancelled and will be refunded. They are rescheduling for April 2021 but I will be living across the country when that happens so I won’t be repurchasing.

    Hi all!

    Robin, you smell fantastic!

I’m in vintage Byzance today, power 80’s woody floral. Just enough edge to the woods in the base so that it isn’t wood pudding. I’m in heaven.

This is probably my most hoarded perfume. I find myself with more than a handful of bottles, mostly because I find them for nearly free (and much less than “perfume free”). I have a hard time saying no….

    Stay safe and well everyone!

I think at this point all my bottles are a lifetime supply. I’m still working on the 15ml of patchouli 24 I bought in 2016. 😂

I have some of the body lotion but I’m honestly not sure if I took it when I moved. I haven’t seen it in any case. I bought it as part of a gift set; it was only $40 and the bottle was 100ml! A crazy score. I really want to try the parfum one day. No the EDT & EDP are so similar that I wonder how different the parfum is. One of the reasons I haven’t pounced on it.

Good Morning everyone! Happy Hump day. :)

My SOTD is Dior’s Addict (old version). Flowers, Bourbon vanilla, sandalwood, and Tonka. I don’t know what Night Queen Flower is supposed to smell like but I think it’s part of the magnificent opening that I adore…

Physician’s and dentist appointment went well, received my flu shot and knocked a few other items off of my to-do list.
Thankfully, my physician agrees that I shouldn’t be in a room full of strangers at this time, so I have a medical exemption from duty. I normally don’t mind at all, I like fulfilling my service, but now’s not the time.
Headed out for a four mile walk, see everyone later!

My sample of Serge Lutens Fils de Joie arrived yesterday.
It opens similarly to Sarassins for those who love that classic.
For me it is still too sweet, grape juice like. It quiets down and improves as the sweetness leaves. It becomes lightly barely indolic but with a pleasant dry down. I will try it again in cooler weather. Longevity remains on my arm overnight but not a loud scent at all.

BDK Rouge Smoking which is cherry, vanilla, tobacco-y goodness to my nose.

Question for those w/ a yearly perfume budget…do you roll any unspent remainder to the next year if you don’t spend it all? or do you lose it like an FSA? ;) 3 months left to 2020…hard to believe…

    1) Am in Amelie Mae- a fruity, nutty, sweet rose that actually suits this day- cool in the morning, hot in the afternoon.
    2) Will be doing some garden clean up later on today. The recent rains & wind has made everything look wild, and things that needed to be pulled have now become straggly. Plus I want to try again with bulbs!

Tauer Le Maroc pour Elle for me today. It’s random old sample week — beyond the ones drying up, I have a bunch of very old ones like this where water drops or leaks have blurred the label over the years and you can only just tell what it says. This one’s nice but not really me, which is likely why the sample’s been sitting so long. (I’m not a patchouli person, and I get a lot of patchouli on the opening.) Fortunately it’s not lingering, so I’ll go up and dive into another sample mid-day.

It’s Wednesday and I am taking most of Friday off. Something to look forward to! Happy hump day!

SOTD Aramis Devin. Being an EL fangirl, I picked it up at TJX to see how it compared to Aliage. I did not care for something in Aliage, but Devin smells wonderful to me, and I can’t really put it on the masculine or feminine shelf, after this light spritzing. Clove, carnation, moss, and sandalwood appear together in many of my favorite perfumes. Devin also has a nice not too sweet, not too dry patchouli.

The late winter blast is passing, it’s a clear sunny morning, but still chilly. I’m thinking of Le Temps d’Une Fête in anticipation of warmer weather. I can see the first few flowers on a blossom tree nearby. I’ve been watching it grow for years – it’s self-sown and always flowers later than other trees, so every year there is an anxious wait :)

Finished off a sample of Soivohle Green Oakmoss. I think you’ll continue to see me posting about finishing off samples and decants for the foreseeable future. It’s quite the endeavor to try and pare down my collection. I think soon I may need to resort to selling on eBay or the Facebook perfume groups, as I have several bottles that I’ve listed here for swap the last few swap meets with no interested parties. We’ll see when I have energy for selling. I think I’ll have to do it 5 items at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed. In the spirit of paring down…

    FREEBIE OFFER TO REGULAR NSTers:
I have an old bottle of Lush Icon that leaked when I got it many years ago. So I don’t want to send the bottle to anyone else. Based on the label, I think the bottle is from 2005. Looks like this bottle but Icon: https://images.app.goo.gl/AAS3U3f988nwKzKT7

I will split the remaining perfume into two decants (probably 5ml each) and send to two people in the US. Please call dibs here and then email me via gmail at my NST username.

Oh, and I’ve still got a MJ Daisy travel spray available in the freebie meet. 😉

Have you tried it? It’s a slightly sweet earthy mossy slightly resinous perfume you my nose. It does wear like an EDT.

I have the odd challenge of trying to find a perfume that helps counteract the smoke in the air from the California fires because once again the air quality is poor. I find the herbal fragrances are helpful and having been wearing the heck out of A Taste of Heaven because lavender helps. But today I turned to vintage Eau de Caron, an EdT version of Caron Alpona, with its beautiful alpine herbs and citrus. It’s also a little sweet and powdery–sounds like a hot mess but somehow it works and is gorgeous–so I find it comforting as well. It’s not a perfume that anyone talks about except my one friend who introduced me to it, but I love it.

Do you have any of the Sonoma Scent Studios on hand? There is something in the base of those that is a bit campfire-smoky on me, and maybe one of those would blend and render the smoke in the air somehow prettier, or at least more bearable? Just a thought.

I feel so horrible for everyone effected by these fires. And now Napa valley – AGAIN! And Sonoma! it’s all so terribly sad. They say that the smoke has clouded the atmosphere badly for 2 weeks and now may kill virtually all the fruit on the vines in the general area. Unimaginable.

In Tiempe Passate (Antonia’s Flowers) today. This should have been my pick for the CP on quiet/lost loves (I haven’t cited that correctly, I know). I was surprised at how cool it was especially since my brain thought we were supposed to have one more day of swamplandia weather but it seems last night’s torrential rains actually cooled things off. We had a power outage and I only knew because I woke up at 3am with light coming from the other bedroom (smart light became stupid) and my alarm clock flashing.

I guess I’m in a perfume slump. Not even wearing anything today, but I wanted to come here for the company. I just don’t feel like putting on anything in my collection, too sweet, too heavy, too inky, too spicy, too this too that. Hope this passes. Might be ennui from the political situation. I did get a fabulous co-op order today with gorgeous crimini mushrooms and cherry tomatoes and peppers and calabaza squashes and the most beautiful micro-greens with tiny edible flowers. The mix tastes amazing. That’s what I would like to smell like today. Floral, tangy, spicy. All blended together.

I got the package for Jessica’s talk next week on Making Scents of Studio 54. It’s in mail quarantine right now. I will report back once I open it!

Looking forward to hearing about your Studio 54 goodies. I’m curious as to what’s inside.

      OH that’s a fabulous choice.
What a lovely perfume, full bottle worthy.
I heard his interview on a podcast awhile back, and found Dmitri Weber to be very fascinating. There were 2 that I really was drawn to. I’ll have to find the other one for you.

I also received mine: opened it because I had to know if all was in good shape, which it is, but I defer to Hajusuuri for “the big reveal.” ;)
