Tuesday and Bloomsday (or at least the 2020 version, Zoomsday). Birthdays today: Geronimo, Adam Smith. What fragrance are you wearing?
Fantasy vacation: I'm on a bike and boat tour in the Netherlands. (I almost talked my husband into this last year, but then he got busy, and then other things happened, and well, you know how it goes.) I imagine I am commando during the day and at night I'm wearing a little pick-me-up that doesn't disturb the other nice people on the boat, maybe Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche? But right now I am wearing Terre d'Hermès original.
Reminder: on 6/19, we're doing Fantasy Vacation Friday...pick a destination and wear the scent that takes you there. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: I'm featuring paintings by Giovanna Garzoni this week; I became interested in her art after Kevin sent me the article The Baroque Artist Who Captured the World in Her Still Lifes. Shown above is detail from Lapdog with Biscotti and a Chinese Cup (c. 1648), Giovanna Garzoni. Gallerie degli Uffizi, Florence. Let's assume there is tea in the cup, shall we?
Bermuda
Lili Bermuda Frangipani
Today I am wearing a beautiful linen long-sleeve blouse, its long almost like a dress. I love linen, but don’t like the wrinkles. With white leggings.
Still working on my Italian haiku for Donatella
Lovely!
I love linen, but hate the wrinkles, despite everyone saying “but that’s the beauty of linen!”. 😀
How are the Italian classes going?
I love the feel of linen though, its so light.
I am still with my peanut butter toast in the morning, and I don’t know why, I still fit into my clothes.. Normally this much bread is not good for my waistline..
My Italian lessons are going well, but learning the past tense or the “Passato Prossimo”is so difficult for me..
I love linen too, I found a linen maxi dress in orange, for $30 dollars.
Will I look like a 5’8 channel buoy? Yep.
Do I care? Nope. Link below….
I already have big clunk accessories picked out…
https://noracora.com/products/summer-pockets-round-neck-shift-linen-dresses
Cute dress! I like the charcoal color too.
I like that dress!
The hubby and I had to cut back on bread as well….
I’m having a 1/2 sandwich instead of a whole one, and no honey. It’s not as much fun!
Boo!
That is no fun
But that’s the beauty of linen! 😉 I love it, but I always either line dry it or give it a tumble in the dryer so that it’s rumply — that way it doesn’t really wrinkle. My whole look is sort of rumply-chic, now that I think of it, so it works for me.
Fragrantica article that came out today on history of Shalimar that looks like it was written just for you.♥️
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Shalimar-Almost-a-Century-Old-13752.html
Wait!
There is another flanker of Shalimar coming?
..
Ok now going to read the article.
Yes, see comment below…Philtre de Parfum…love potion?
Robin! Did you know this..
wow wow wow
By September I should finish with my Ferrante series and I should reward myself with this flanker 😉
No, I am always behind, but I will discover it eventually 🙂
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Shalimar-Philtre-de-Parfum-Guerlain-s-New-Spell-13694.html
That is original flanker announcement on Fragrantica from a couple weeks ago.?? Lots of comments…others are excited too it seems. 😉
wow wow wow!
Thank you for giving me something to look forward too…
I am still lemming that Shalimar limited edition bottle…
i cannot keep up with shalimar flankers
As they mentioned Shalimar means Temple of Love, I now hear the Sisters of Mercy singing….
I’m right there with you, tannina…
Hanging out with both of you, musically.
They also mention release of a new version called Philtre de Parfum later this year…”which will highlight the most sensual and intoxicating facets of Shalimar with the help of a vanilla used in overdose, carried by iris and Tolu balsam.”
Vanilla overdose w/ iris and balsam…count me in please. 🙂
Very appealing to me! I love the Shalimar bottles and am always happy to get a new version of this classic.
The description mentions lavender. Hope it’s not prominent. That would be a deal-breaker for me and the rest sounds so good!
me too…
Lavender and Shalimar…don’t seem to mix in my mind.
Yet, I tried the new version of the Shalimar Cologne and it had freesia!!!
Joining you in Bermuda, but with Jasmine!!
I’d like to be in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan right now, taking the boat tour of Pictured Rock in Munising, then heading up to Copper Harbor and walking on a rocky Lake Superior beach looking for agates. Wearing a jacket against the cool breeze and smelling the clean, fresh air and water smell.
But I don’t have a perfume like that and I’m not sure I’d even want one. Wearing En Voyage Go Ask Alice for the bitter green opening.
Go Ask Alice is wonderful, I blew through my bottle pretty quickly…
Mine will be thunked by the end of the summer.
Wow! You just about took me to the UP with that description! Wonderful!
Aww thank you ? it’s one of my favorite places.
I haven’t been to the UP, but I did spend some pretty wonderful days canoeing through the Boundary Waters in northern MN, collecting data for an ecologist I was working for at the time. So beautiful and peaceful up there!
Northern Michigan is my usual summer destination, but I doubt I’ll make it this year. ?
I may not make any of my usual vacations this year either, other than local beach. Keeping my fingers crossed for a February vacation somewhere warm.
We won’t either 🙁 I’ve wanted to go on the Toonerville Trolley and Tahquamenon Falls train and steamboat tours for several summers.
Hi all!
Robin, joining you in wearing Hermes, my SOTD is Eau Des Merveilles.
Fantasy Vacation: I’d chose either Eastern Long Island, where I lived as a child, or Sarasota FL, where family and friends are…
If I had the funds, for an exotic vacation, it’d be Egypt, St. Barts, or Russia. I’ve always wanted to see the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
Last night, I finished the book Wesley the Owl, what a lovely book, Wesley was quite the character!
Hermes and I haven’t always gotten along, but I like the Amber flanker to the one you are wearing. Also Galop
I’m convinced that Galop is what Helen of Troy wore.
Hey cousin!
OH, Galop is wonderful! I’m totally surprised I liked it so much.
Jour d’ Hermes is another surprise love.
I’ve wanted to try the Amber flanker, I’ll have to try it at some point.
Hermes and my skin agree (not with my purse strings though) with one another.
Hey cuz!! What’z up??
The Hermitage is truly mind-boggling, both the palace and the art. I got separated from my group by dawdling over all the Rembrandts. FYI it’s extremely hard to find any rest rooms there! Yikes! The city as a whole is so beautiful with all the canals and yellow houses.
It truly is my dream to visit The Hermitage, and I would love to see several Faberge Eggs. My favorite egg is the Nobel ice Egg, Winter is a close runner-up.
https://images.app.goo.gl/vxu7w7xVsUMmCZPf6
Ooh, gorgeous! We have a wonderful collection of Faberge items in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. They’re mostly NOT the eggs, but other gorgeous decorative items like cigarette cases, jewellery boxes, etc. There is one of those ice eggs, I will have to try to find a photo of it. I believe it’s done by a woman, too!
Really? Please report back! I’d love to know which one it is!
A nice scent for a vacation, some day I will buy a bottle
You smell wonderful.
I am wearing Guerlain L’Heure de Nuit and drinking a cup of chai tea.
I love L’heure de Nuit but don’t wear it often. Chai is my favorite tea. Is yours homemade?
Not homemade. A friend gave it to me for Christmas and it is Trader Joe’s Spiced Chai.
I normally drink the Tazo Chai latte concentrate.
That TJ Spiced Chai is a yummy one, if I’m remembering right. 🙂
I am drinking Numi Chinese breakfast! Always forget to say.
I just looked that one up. It looks like it is very flavorful.
Numi teas are really darned good. Their Earl Grey is excellent, it has turned me off most other Earl Greys — now I can taste the bergamot “flavoring” as opposed to real bergamot.
I like Numi’s Breakfast Blend tea better than their Chinese Breakfast tea. And in my non-expert opinion, their Jasmine Green tea is excellent.
And for a cold non-caffeinated “herbal tisane,” I drink a lot of their Moroccan Mint as “iced tea.” I put a bunch of fresh spearmint leaves in to steep with the tea bags when I made a quart of it last night. It’s super-minty! lol
My opinions are all non-expert too 🙂
this is my most wanted perfume for a few years now sigh..one day. That blue juice calls my name lol
I had been wanting it for a few years also. I treated myself to it as a birthday present last month.
Awesome!! ?
Spending the morning in Tigress Musk before I get in the shower. For the vet, I am thinking of either going no 19 edt or maybe Apres L’ondee. I want something that wears easy but doesn’t last that long.
Good luck!
Hope everything goes well!
They said she was very healthy. Cute and sweet as well. They just said her ears were pretty dirty and those got cleaned out and got a rabies vaccine. Cost me $140. Not bad though.
Very happy for you and your pet with her sparkly ears now .
It’s not uncommon for floppy eared dogs to have cruddy ears, yeast infections or just general ear infections. One lab had chronic yeast infections in her ears and another had chronic ear infections. Just luck of the draw.
Glad to hear that your pup got a clean bill of health today. ?
I’m wearing Rhubarbe Ecarlate today. I’m almost at the end of the decant, and trying to decide whether to spring for a 15ml bottle from ebay. I don’t think that it is rhubarb enough for me.
Scent twins! What is a more rhubarby scent? I love to eat rhubarb, yet had never thought of it as a fragrance note until the Hermès discovery set that contains it showed up in a Sephora order (I did not order it — it was their mistake). Turns out I like Rhubarb Ecarlate very much, but not enough to buy a FB. Something with *more* rhubarb might tip the balance toward “buy.”
Nice mistake 🙂
Aedes de Venustas Signature has a nice dose of rhubarb for me.
The AdV one is my favorite rhubarb!
Rain again! I must confess that with mask wearing required in my state and the 6 feet rule, I have been spritzing more lavishly lately, because, no one really should be able to smell me. Where shall I travel today? It shall be Olympic Orchids Gujarat, shape shifting olfactive impressions of India.
Enjoy your “trip” to India
I like your thinking. Honestly, if I’m out of the house and can smell someone’s perfume (or whatever smell they’re wafting) I automatically think, “Gah! I’m too close.” Perfume as social distancing, it’s a win! 😀
SOTD = Parfums Dusita Le Sillage Blanc
Holy Galbanum Batman! Very green smokey leather ashtray ?.
I love the manufacturer’s travel sprays as they are elegant and have just the right amount of juice.
If you have tried Parfums Dusita, which ones are your favorites? I also have Splendiris and La Douceur de Siam, both loves!
My favorite is Fleur de Lalita – a green BWF
Thanks! Good to know!
Splendiris!
???
I have a FB of Le Sillage Blanc, my other favourite is La Douceur de Siam.
We are Parfums a Dusita Twins!
That perfume sounded great until “ashtray”. I can’t do that, as the song says. ?
Le Pavilion d’Or – my only Dusita so far, but if I can get my hands on the travel spray, I’ll probably get Splenderis.
I’m in Eau d’Hadrien today and dreaming of the south of France. Tried Hermes Jardin En Mediterranee at bedtime last night and liked it – the little coffret turned out to be splash bottles, not sprays. I’ll have to order some more little spray bottles to try these properly.
Oh, I will join you on that vacation!
Can I come, too!! I dream of a month in Villefranche sur Mer
Hey, the more the merrier! Nice choice of locations too, jepster – beautiful area!
Smelling great and wishing I was in France as well haha
Scent late last night/early this morning: a bit of Chanel No. 5 EdT. Fantasy vacation to France? Though I can still read French somewhat, I can’t pronounce it correctly anymore. But I’ve never been to Europe, and there are various museums, public gardens, and tourist attractions I’d like to see in a number of countries. 🙂
I feel like to really explore Europe the way I want to, I need to become independently wealthy and spend 8 months to a year wandering around, putting down roots in a place every few weeks or a month at a time, and really just *be* in Europe. So, you know, THAT’S totally gonna happen. ?
I know I’ll never become independently wealthy. 🙂 But it’s fun to dream. More realistically, I’d like to go to the Cloisters, which features medieval art, again sometime. It’s part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I would have liked to go to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens this spring, but that didn’t happen. Maybe next year?
No 5 edt is wonderful. I am starting to prefer the edt to the edp.
I sniffed the EdP and EdT at a local department store in February or so, and felt like the EdT was the one I’d feel more comfortable wearing — partly because it didn’t seem like it would wear me, rather than the reverse. And I just found it to be such a beautiful fragrance. I could understand why it’s so popular. 🙂
It’s an interesting painting. I would speculate that the lapdog was painted separately from the bread, because most dogs I know would be busy eating the bread, since it’s *right there*. lol
The dog’s eyes look a little more like human eyes than I would expect. Perhaps it’s something with the eyelids and head shape. I don’t know if some of the types of dogs with “pushed-in” (brachycephalic) faces were coming into Europe from China at the time, but this lapdog looks to me like kind of a transition phase between having a more defined stop and muzzle, and having the pushed-in face and bulging eyes. The “apple-domed” top of the head isn’t terribly unusual for certain types of lapdog, though it’s a fault in many non-lapdog breeds. I’m interested in seeing pictures that reflect how certain types of dogs have changed over the years to have often have features that are more exaggerated than they were in previous centuries.
Have you ever watched the BBC documentary about pedigree dogs? It’s interesting as it shows early 20th pictures of Cavaliers, Pugs and the like where they have shortened faces but not as shortened as they are today. They look more “normal” for want of a better word.
My favourite breed (wire-haired dachshunds) is very different depending on the continent where they are bred. In Germany and the Scandinavian countries they breed smaller, shorter and longer legged dogs that are more than capable of running for most of the day. I suppose it’s got to do with the fact that a lot of dachsies are still working dogs there. Also noticeable white colouring is not allowed as it is often associated with underlying defects.
Ok, I’ll stop now. But like you I studied that little dog with a lot of interest and wondered whether its looks were a good representation of what these dogs looked like then or just a painters thing.
I wonder if that’s on Netflix here in the U.S. It sounds like just the kind of thing I’d be interested in. 🙂
Here in the U.S. there have been various names for those little toy spaniels. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is for the ones that don’t have the pushed-in faces and bulging eyes. The type that does have the pushed-in face has been known as the English toy spaniel, the King Charles spaniel, and probably other names.
Countries where a good percentage of a breed of dogs are still working dogs seem to have breeders who are more concerned with keeping up the health of the dog, but that’s another long story. But yes, without having seen dachshunds specifically as they’re now bred in Germany, I believe you when you say there’s a difference.
I could happily discuss for hours about theories and what we have of historical records of how different breeds of dogs were developed, but that’s going far from the point of the blog. 🙂 Anyway, I’ll take a look at listings on Netflix and PBS for a documentary like that. Thanks!
https://vimeo.com/33444270
Yep, you are right the Cavs don’t quite have the squashed faces that Pugs do, they still have massive health issues though, related to the shape of their skull.
And an interesting link to an article comparing breeding regulations in the UK and Sweden.
https://thebark.com/content/controversy-over-bbcs-purebred-dog-breeding-documentary
My phrasing about should have been *to often have features that are more exaggerated…
That “Pedigree Dogs Exposed” show did show the kinds of changes I was talking about, yes. Thank you for the link. That was a sad and disturbing program, but informative. I think there has been more of a concentration on checking for health problems since then. I know in the U.S. there are recommendations about getting a Cavalier King Charles spaniel’s heart checked; and their legs, to make sure they’re not likely to get slipped stifles. The reporting about brain damage from the brain being too big for the skull in some of those poor animals was very sad. I would certainly hope that breeders are taking that more seriously now!
I’ve seen pretty recent commentary about bulldogs with those respiratory problems from having the short faces, and how very inbred bulldogs are.
Hopefully there will be a move away from the popularity of that extreme pushed-in face for breeds that have such breathing problems due to the effects that go with that appearance. I think dog breeds like that which move back toward the look of having less protuberant eyes, a noticeable stop, and a reasonable length of muzzle could still look appealing to people, and they’d be much healthier.
That was a lot of analysis over one part of a painting done centuries ago!
That dog looks adorable and a bit shy if you ask me.
Wearing Pomelo Riviera from Atelier des Ors. It’s a lovely summery grapefruit scent and I love the blue bottle with golden flakes inside.
Love the painting, Robin!
Wearing copious amounts of Thierry Mugler Womanity. You can all shoot me, but I love it and was craving for it! ?
Planning to run some errands at lunch time. The day is gorgeous!
After going to my local supermarket last night, where they already stopped limiting the number of people allowed inside, this is exactly what I need from now on. I just wish they had the same length in the back:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.archyde.com/coronavirus-romania-the-antivirus-shoes-that-enforce-social-distance/%3famp
Happy Tuesday! ?
I love those shoes! The color is amazing. Great idea.
?
Ha! Maybe you can get spurs with an extension.
LOL! Why not!
I adore that painting, and I am not even a dog person.
No such thing. You just haven’t met your dog, yet.??
What we need is to go back to hoop skirts 🙂 That’ll keep folks from getting too close, for sure.
Ha! The skirts and shoes together will work perfectly! ?
LOL!
I’m not going to gripe about you wearing Womanity. ? I’d love to sniff it on someone else.
?
Mugler perfumes, although quirky, are quite compelling, aren’t they?
Today I’m wearing Dzongkha. Last night I was dreaming of being in Muir Woods. I wouldn’t wear perfume to the forest, but I would happily wear Dzongkha after returning.
Have a safe, healthy, happy and fragrant day!
I have not been to Muir Woods since childhood but I miss it and Big Sur and Yosemite. These places all had a particular smell and that is a California smell and it is really hard to bottle. I think Juniper Ridge soaps come close.
Agree…SoCal has a version of it, then inland SoCal is different, then Big Sur up to north of San Fran has another smell. All wonderful.
I miss it, and the smell of Northern New Mexico too.
Oh, a visit to Muir Woods would do wonders for our hearts and minds! I can place myself there in my imagination, but can’t say I remember the scent of the place. You smell wonderful. ?
Come to one of my local state parks — Big Basin State Park in Santa Cruz County, CA. It actually has more and larger redwoods than Muir Woods, with a tiny fraction of the crowds.
I would love that, Pixel. I have not been to California since the late 1980’s.
Big Basin is fantastic, we camped there all the time when I was a kid.
Big Basin is on my list to visit this year! It looks beautiful!
I have a vague memory of seeing redwoods in CA when I was 8. It was rather awe-inspiring.
That dog is me..carbs and tea are life lol.
Sotd Double Vanille.
My fantasy vacay…visiting castles in Wales or a tropical vacation with a Welshman haha. I am flexible.
?
Yay for vanilla, the tropics w/ a Welshman and flexibility. 😉
Split-Meet Peeps: I contacted Luckyscent yesterday because I still have not gotten my order. They have launched an investigation with UPS. If you want to opt out you can e-mail me and I’ll take you off the list. So sorry! This is the third package UPS has lost in a month. ?
SOTD is disgruntlement! No, really it’s SSS Equestrian. It’s also raining. Feels just like a Monday to me.
So sorry about your USP troubles! That happened to me years back with a box from Barneys with a few Malles inside. The box was delivered to the front door while I was away and someone swiped it. My sense was the UPS delivery person was in too much of a hurry to notice the slightly less conspicuous (and more secure) side door. UPS was not real understanding, but thankfully Barneys was. They sent me new bottles.
I’ve often wondered what the thief thought when they opened the box and found spendy fragrances inside and who ended up wearing them.
I don’t think they were stolen. I think they’re still on some UPS truck somewhere. UPS packages here get dropped at the USPS post office for delivery. None of these packages were delivered to the post office for delivery to me via USPS.
Well, if they’re not stolen, that increases your chances of seeing it again!
I had a big order of samples I ordered years back that never arrived. The seller (don’t recall who it was–perfumed court or STC) kindly sent me the samples again at no charge. Maybe 3 months later, an extremely battered envelope full of samples arrived at my door, and I got doubles!
I don’t understand the issues with delivery services. They either get lost or damaged. And porch pirates taking advantage of the delivery services people leaving things in plain sight. Good thing I have dogs, an ant walks across the street and they are barking. Our mailman knows my dogs are more bark than bite but if he comes and they are out, we put them in the house. But our mailman rings the doorbell and we get the package inside pretty quick.
Part of it is the fact that so many people are ordering so many things online. The pandemic has been hell on the postal service I’m sure. When I went to the PO yesterday to try to figure out what the issue was, the lady at the desk said they had 4-5 pallets sitting in the back they had been unable to unload because they just didn’t have the staff. I’m okay with “delays” but I don’t like when packages “disappear.”
The porch pirate thing has been going on longer than that but usually happens around holidays. Most of what I have ordered with the pandemic, isn’t really that important. The food stuff I did was but even that stuff took a while.
Ugh, sorry to hear that you are having delivery issues.
With the Shalimar fanfare above, I sprayed the very dregs from my Shalimar Mexique decant (it was nearly evaporated and had gone goopy 🙁 )and topped it off w/ some Shalimar Light.
Truth be known, I’m not in love with original Shalimar but with amped vanilla I could make allowances for a new flanker.
I sprayed Kismet on my other arm as I find Shalimar Light similar to but not exactly like Kismet and sniffing back and forth…arm to arm comparing all day will keep my brain engaged as I avoid work. 😉
Let me know how the comparison goes.
I covet my vanille flanker..
Thanks again for sharing the above news and that fantastic article.
I can’t tell you how much you made my day today
Yay…you are so welcome.
I love the Fragrantica news articles and enjoy some of the snarky comments. 😉
SOTD = old friend VCA Bois d’Iris… still looking for the perfect Iris perfume. I have a sample of Splendiris in the mail, maybe arrive today…
Of course I think that is a worthy quest 🙂
I think you smell marvelous! That’s one of my favs!
I’m not sure if going on a fantasy vacation right now, when travel is so limited, is a good way to get those feelings out or a sort of slow-paced self-flagellation. Like, when I’m really craving a brownie, I generally do best just eating a really delicious brownie and moving on with my day. Fantasizing about the brownie seems to make the cravings stronger. . .
So, with that in mind I think I’m going to keep my fantasies a little closer to home. I’m wearing a few spritzes of MJ Bang and envisioning myself at the mall, sorting through new summer dresses on the sale rack.
Oh, don’t play if it bothers you!
I thought my solution to my discomfort was funny. . . ?
It was, sorry if my answer was inappropriately serious!
No worries! Glad you didn’t take it as me pooh-poohing your project. 🙂
You are always allowed to pooh-pooh the projects anyway. It’s no fun if you *have* to do every project.
ha! love that image, there are some scents that make me (happily) think of shopping malls. 😀
It’s where I started my perfumista adventure. (And I still love a good sale rack!) 🙂
That would be a good poll idea: where did you first fall down the perfumed rabbit hole?
Heh, if my Kyoto split arrives before Friday, it’ll perfectly fit the CP; we meant to go to Japan last year, but 2019 was the most garbage year of my life, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be going anywhere internationally at all in 2020.
But today I’m wearing Bee (my fiance can’t stand it, but he’s off on a 43-mile bike ride, so he won’t be back for a while, by which time Bee will be quieter). It still fits the CP; given the pandemic, perhaps the best vacation I can dream of is in a garden.
Bee is on my full-bottle list, but I promised myself I’d use up my sample before buying more. I’m so sorry 2019 was a garbage year for you. Obviously, this year has been sort of globally garbage, but I do hope things have turned around and are gentler and brighter!
Thank you, Isabella 🙂 yep, 2020:world::2019:my life, but for me personally, 2020 hasn’t really been so bad.
I’m so glad you love Bee! I hope you get that FB soon 🙂
Trying out YSL Cinema EDP from swap meet today and like it very much. Back to work after a four day weekend, and it’s going to be a busy day. I have my weekly two hour course for the professional certification program I’m taking then meetings all afternoon. Oh, and laundry has to get done today. It’s definitely a Tuesday-Monday.
Ugh.
Laundry. At least you smell good!
Laundry twins today. I’m glad mine’s done now.
I would like to amend my thoughts on Hiram Green Vivacious. The comments yesterday were based on one spritz to the arm. Today I sprayed a lot more and got quite a different picture. It was much more fruity/citrusy. I still get more carnation than violet and iris, but it is definitely sweeter than the one spritz I put on yesterday.
I also tried a sample of Goldfield & Banks Bohemian Lime and Amouage Love Mimosa, both very lovely and worthy of owning. Sadly after vet bills last week and eye doctor bills this week, the hope of a FB will have to wait for a long while.
Thanks for your amended report. I’m a bit more hopeful now. ?
That sounds good – I’d like a carnation fragrance.
Can you also tell us a bit more about the Bohemian Lime? (Sorry about all the bills. I know how that goes!)
It’s much nicer than I expected, usually lime goes very masculine on me, but the Bohemian Lime has a lovely floral background. It is fresh and uplifting, and not only that but long-lasting too. I could still smell it on my arm the next morning after spraying it yesterday.
Good intel. I like lime but agree it can be masculine. I have not tried anything from this line yet.
Ditto. But this sounds really nice.
Wearing L’Eau à la Folie (Nicolaï), it’s lovely, very much in the vein of Eau Exotique and Eau Turquoise.
It would go well with a late spring visit to some Loire châteaux.
Robin, I’m pleasantly surprised that you intended a visit to the Netherlands. Boat and bike are a great way to visit I guess.
A fragrance that would suit that particular holiday could also be Essence de Mastenbroek. I tried it once at the art museum in The Hague and stupidly did not get a bottle. I liked it quite a bit and I loved the whole concept of it.
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/L-essence-de-Mastenbroek/Eau-de-Polder-11332.html
Well, seems unlikely it will happen anytime soon, but I would still love to do it! I spent a week in Amsterdam a million years ago, that’s it.
And yes, I remember Eau de Polder! I posted about it at the time, and I have the idea that I might have smelled it too, but that would be a long time ago now.
I’m in a cloud of Hiris today. Tea is Bigelow pomegranate black tea which is very refreshing when it’s so hot outside.
Mmmm, I need to wear Hiris more. You smell lovely!
Thanks Isabella! ?
I’m in Bottega Veneta from the recent swapmeet and really liking it. So I guess now my fantasy destination is Venice?
Can I join you in Venice?
By all means! I’ll need you to translate!
Amore needs no translation 😉
HA!
A favorite leather of quite a few people here!
I’m in Bigarade C again – thunked the swapmeet sample. I’m addicted! Gonna buy the travel spray this week.
Good, you won’t regret it. It’s very wearable.
Already purchased En Passant after all of the weekend comments, myself. ?
Now, wishing I could turn back time to split Musc Ravaguer!
Might cave again. I tell myself I am helping the economy.
I resisted Musc Ravageur for years and then caved, and while I hate to enable, it’s been a very lovely cave to inhabit! 🙂
I don’t need much more to push me…
Enjoy En Passsant! It is fantastic!
Thank you!
I can’t wait for it to arrive!
What will you pick for your gift with purchase?
They only give 3 options: POAL, Carnal Flower and Rose et Cuir. I think I will pick CF
I did a fantasy holiday in Thailand, wearing Zoologist Elephant and enjoying my imagined jungle. It has a great longevity for a green foggy scent.
Now testing some scents. I bought a small used bottle of Agent Provocateur, which is nice. And finally got a decant of Corsica, Furiosa, so I will test this more thoroughly.
The boyfriend will be dismissed from the clinic tomorrow, thankfully I could take some days off to be with him and drive him to the rehab clinic next Wednesday.
Happy to hear he’s headed home soon! Let us know what you think of CF. It’s one of my all time favorites. The only option at the time was the 100ml bottle, but I’m not sad about that. It’s already about a 1/3 gone…?
I LOVE Corsica Furiosa and could probably justify a FB at this point — or at least, by my next paycheck. So glad to hear your boyfriend is heading home!
Joining Lovestosmellgood in Bermuda today, with Lili Bermuda Jasmine. I am loving this sunny, cool weather….it almost feels like a vacation with just the windows open. Should get outside, but I am so comfortable here by the window, with the breeze and the bird song…..
It sounds idyllic.
house twins!
I tried Jasmine at the shop, and liked it, and the other I loved was Coral.. but went with Frangipani.
What a charming picture Robin, with the little dog, that half-eaten biscotti. Thinking a little bit, but not really in the frame of mind in my living room, of tropical islands in Molton Brown Ylang-Yang which quite reminds me of AA Ylang-Vanille which is a good thing.
It does make me crazy that there are flies on the biscotti 🙂
Wearing Poet’s Jamine today, and I think I prefer it for cooler weather.
My fantasy/reality vacation today was the beach! I rode my bike to Orchard Beach and back first thing this morning, and it was lovely to sit on a bench there, watching the still blue water, eating my snack.
Oh how nice!
Will wear a nice mix of oceana and Patchouli, a summer mix.
Fantasy vacation? Block Island. I haven’t gone in years and it is a sweet place. Perfect for hiking and beaches, a little farm and who knows what has changed.
I would have to bring my dog. My fantasy vacations and real life experiences are so much more fulfilling with her?
We used to go every Summer when I lived in Rhode Island. Block Island is paradise and I remember that ferry ride, which one always wanted to take on a calm day, that can be a tempestuous stretch of water between Pt. Judith and Block Island.
It is so calming. I’ve gone from Pt. Judith and New London, too. The ferry ride is half the fun!
Great for a daytrip or however many days. The poplar trees make the island smell sweet in the breeze.
Yes, and so fun to have an eager companion. I have never been to Block Island, but it sounds lovely.
It really is.
That’s today’s fantasy.
I’d be really content right now at home in my little town with my little dog. ?
That’s a good thing.
Hi all — I’ve been largely commando recently due to a combination of sinus woes, headache woes, and low-spirits woes, but today I’m in a wee spritz of Parfums de Rosine Roseberry in an attempt to turn things around. No one can be grumpy while wearing tea roses and raspberries. Baking molasses-pecan cookies to send to my dad for Fathers’ Day, puttering in the garden, and shirking work.
molasses-pecan cookies sound delicious! you have a very lucky dad. 🙂
Shirking work is my favorite pastime! Hope the doldrums have said “Goodbye” for good. Also, can I have a cookie? ?
Those cookies sound great. Hope you feel better soon!
Hope that your head is feeling better now.
a year ago today my sister and I were on the Serengeti. pure magic.
SOTD is a sample of St. Clair Pharaoh’s Passion – oh my it is resins and spice and wow I love it.
I liked that one a lot too, more in fact than the other new one.
Lemming! For both the Serengeti and Pharaoh’s Passion!
I just sniffed myself again oh my goodness. this is something wonderful. It has jolted me back into fragrance again.
Wow! That is an impressive endorsement from you. Yay for getting your perfumed mojo jump started!
Fantasy holiday to London: SOTD is Perfumer H Vetiver, which I bought in her shop the last time we were in London. Actually I seem to be doing vetiver week not fantasy vacation week. Looks like vacations are off the table for this year, hoping they’ll be possible next year.
I feel the same way about vacations. I wonder if more people will take trips by car this summer, or fewer?
Or maybe people will be doing day trips more often?
I was wondering if RV sales have skyrocketed. I can’t figure out how to get to my sister’s lake house in No Mass without stopping to go to the bathroom 😉
Timbuktu for expansive views, hammock evenings, smoky camp fires, binoculars in hand, lazy breakfast, interesting animals and starry skies. Namibia.
As I have never been to Namibia, I have no idea if Timbuktu actually matches, but it’s the idea of it.
Hopefully we can manage to go next year or the year after.
Oh yes, this sounds wonderful.
I love Timbuktu. And have been there once in the 1980s.
You smell great. And your trip to Namibia will be perfect.
Thanks Apsara and I hope so. How was Timbuktu?
I love Garzoni’s artworks, especially her flower arrangements! The Dehua porcelain cup in this picture was used in Europe for drinking hot chocolate, a rather new drink in the eighteenth century and all the rage at the leading courts.
Well, I’m sure you’re right but it’s Tuesday so we are going with tea anyway 😉
Thinking of somewhere fabulous in the middle east, Fêtes Persanes from MDCI for me today.
You smell great!
I’m in Narciso Rodriguez Musc Oil for Her and I am exploring Cuba – both the towns and the countryside. I speak some Spanish but in my dream vacation I am fluent, of course, so that I can really converse and learn about the people.
I’ve been there. It really was a throwback to the 1950s. Life discussions would be very different depending on who you talk with.
Yes, so interesting!
I dream of being fluent in any language.
Ha – so true.
on that note, back to my Italian verbs..
Happy Tuesday Everyone!
SOTD: Jasmine Sambac & Marigold by Jo Malone.
The smell of jasmine and vanilla together seems to calm me down and relax better. Just a good day to have this scent on.
yum, that’s a great combination. Jasmine and vanilla relax me too. 🙂
Ditto…the world needs more vanilla.♥️
Lol…agree with you 100%
🙂
That sounds like a good one.
Very subtle, soothing, and stunning 🙂
Not sure I’ve sniffed that one yet.
It was released in 2018 and a part of their intense cologne collection. A bit more expensive, but for me it was worth it.
I’ve, um, kind of lost track of what I have and haven’t sniffed in the JM range. I *do* like a lot of the ones in the Intense cologne line, though.
wow..that sounds amazing.
Yes, its a good one…I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.
SotD = Assam of India
AofI is my pick for tea for Tuesday, and I’m drinking iced green tea. It’s a good combo, even on a cool and cloudy afternoon.
My dentist called to ask me to come in for a checkup and cleaning.
Thanks to you informed people and the discussion about relative risk yesterday, I had already made up my mind on what to do.
Perfumed people are the best. 😀
perfumes people ARE the best
🙂 😀 😉
Hope your dentist appointment is an easy and uneventful one!
thank you, it should be easy! I’m now scheduled to go in July for a regular check up and cleaning. I love my dentist visits, I’ve been going to the same practice since I was 8 years old, except for some of the years I lived in another state. 😉
I’d like to be somewhere “down the Shore”, but during the off season. The lack of crowds is worth it. But with today’s weather! ?☀☀☀
SOTD = Soivohle Fougere Nakh, from the sample stash. This is one of the strangest perfumes I have ever tried. It’s beachy, but no sunscreen or coconut notes. Something about it speaks to sand, warm sun, and driftwood.
Fougere Nakh sounds righ up my alley!
It might be. I haven’t been able to parse out any individual notes for this one at all.
That sounds lovely – beach not crowded with today’s weather as well as your SOTD!
Yeah. ? I enjoyed my little mental vacation.
Started off the morning in more Zoologist T-rex because I went to the outdoor gym and wanted to ensure my social distance while I worked out like a beast (lol not really, but at least I did work out).
Have since showered and switched to envisioning a summertime stroll through the Hermitage and along the canals in St. Petersburg with SMN Russa.
I also made myself a delightful mini green shakshuka for breakfast this morning. I normally am the sort of person that needs food IMMEDIATELY on waking, so taking even 10 minutes to make a nicer breakfast is a triumph of patience!
Mmmm I love shakshuka.
Oh, tell us more about this ‘green shakshuka’!
Jalapeno my recipes are not exactly precise but:
A generous splash of olive oil
¼ small white onion, thinly sliced
A GIANT MEGA handful of spinach (mine was baby but chopped regular will do as well)
1 egg
1 pinch of berbère spice (in a pinch just take equal parts chili seasoning and cinnamon)
Salt to taste
A small chunk of feta
Small pan, medium heat, get your olive oil nice and shimmering.
Saute the onions a few minutes til translucent, heave that spinach into the pan and pop a lid over it for a few minutes to steam – the lid doesn’t need to fit that perfectly.
Remove the lid and stir to mix up the onions and spinach to ensure it’s all evenly distributed and cooked down, and then make a little divot for your egg.
Crack the egg on in there, sprinkle the berbère seasoning overtop and crumble the feta over everything else, and just continue cooking til your egg white has set!
Slide onto a plate and devour!
yum, I am coming over next time
I can work with this just fine, thanks! Improv recipes can be a lot of fun.
I need to eat right away, except the days I go for a walk
I am done with my first day back to work and I am tired. We don’t open to customers until Friday. We are just getting everything ready. I went with Alien eau Sublime for my Sotd. I decided to go cheerful for the first day, to set a good tone.
At least you weren’t dealing with the public today. It’s a difficult thing to do.
Shalimar edt today.
I haven’t commented in forever it seems. I did wear Philosykos Friday for “Garden” day. It always reminds me of my grandparents garden which includes massive vegetable beds, as well as some fruit trees and two HUGE figs trees.
Am in a bit of a funk. I had family visit last week and over the weekend. It was great seeing my nephew (and sister too, of course). Them leaving plus the death of a sweet uncle has left me teary and a bit sad overall. Trying to pull out of it but having a little bit of a hard time. I’ll do fantasy vacation the rest of the week, maybe that will pull me out of it haha.
I’m sorry for your loss KellyC. Sending hugs to you.
Thank you.
First you smell fabulous
welcome back..you are missed and loved
I am sorry for your loss. Sending you virtual hugs.
I thought of you when I sprayed my Shalimar this morning- I knew you’d approve! ?
My sympathies on the loss of your dearly loved Uncle. Be kind to yourself. Hugs.
Thank you. I just feel so much pain for my dad and his other siblings who loved him so much, as well as his kids and grandkids. He did not have a shortage of love, I can truly say that!
Sorry for your loss. Sending peace and love ?
Sorry for your loss…..they are always so hard. I definitely have had several hardships in my life recently too, so I definitely understand what you are going through. I don’t know what it is about the NST community, but the people here seem to bring a comforting feeling. Know that you aren’t alone, somehow each day brings a bit more comfort, and find some time for some necessary self-care (NST is part of my self-care and happy place). Oh, and by the way, you smell fantastic.
Sorry for your funk and the loss of your uncle, sending you fragrant hugs.
Really sorry to hear about your uncle. Glad you at least got to see your family, but it must have been hard to have them leave. Hope things look up.
