Monday scent of the day 6/8

Posted by Robin on 8 June 2020 238 Comments

Monday happens. It's also Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday and World Oceans Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur, which Erin included in her Top 10 Summer Fragrances 2018.

Reminder: on 6/12, we're In the garden...wear a perfume that was inspired by a particular garden, or that reminds you of a particular garden, or that just smells like a garden in general. (I think someone suggested this, raise your hand if it was you!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Starting garden week in Guerlain Apres L’ondee. The smell of a damp garden after it has rained. One of my favorites scents ever!

Another gorgeous day! Sunny, fresh and the glorious smell of grass being mowed by several neighbors around. A cup of coffee and… back to my desk to continue the working day.

PSA: I have added a bottle of SSS Incense Pure to the Splitmeet, in case someone is interested.

Hello all! Long time no see!

On my way to work today, mask form placed. I’m wearing No. 18 which is a bit soft for sniffing through a mask. Luckily I could sniff it my entire commute.

Have a great day all! Stay safe.

No morning walk this morning, I have a tight achilles tendon that started yesterday. So starting off my Monday on the wrong foot, literally.

I am in a garden in Capri, for the CP
    SOTD Fiori di Capri

I am also wearing Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, which is one of my favorite of the Hermes Jardin scents. I think it is the kumquat. I will be wearing the Hermes Jardin fragrances all this week, since it fits the CP, but also because it is hot here in Texas, and they are lovely in hot weather.

Hi all, my SOTD is Eau des Jardins by Clarins. Citruses, Wild Rose, Black Currant leaf, with a patchouli/musk dry down.

I ‘thunked’ a FB of Perfect Nectar by Horwitz and a large decant of Rochas Absolu. I’m slowly working my way through some decants.

I had a fun birthday weekend, but ate way too much. It’s difficult to believe I’m 53 😯 but here I am…..
I’m headed out for my walk, ta ta for now!

Boo Monday. But I’m in AG Le Chevrefeuille which has been making me very happy lately AND works for the CP! It is lightly lemony, fresh honeysuckle-ish flowers – this one gives me the feeling of a cool morning walk in a garden, not a hot afternoon drowsiness.

    What gorgeous peonies, Robin!

If I had remembered the CP, I would have worn one of the Hermes garden scents. I didn’t, so I’m in Passage d’Enfer from a sample I found (why don’t I just get a bottle of this and Safran Troublant and stop playing this game of hunting for samples/decants of them in my collection?). Just the teeniest dabs, though, as the fiancé has specifically called this one out as one he dislikes.

Wearing Un Jardin Sur le Nil, a perfect garden for a hot summer day.
My news from yesterday is that my husband of 36 years, without saying a word, casually shaved off his mustache. We’ve been together nearly 40 years and, I’m going to shout here, I’VE NEVER SEEN HIM WITHOUT IT. Omg what a shock. He’s a very handsome man, the mustache has kind of been his trademark, and here’s the sad thing: he looks TERRIBLE without it. Who knew he has no upper lip? The bare lip instantly ages him 5 years and makes him look exactly like his father ?‍♀️ So what should I do? Tell him I want him to grow it back? It’s his face, after all. Get used to it? So far, once I got over the initial shock, I’ve just teased him a little. Hold me. ?

I’d wait awhile so you can get used to it and maybe change your mind. If you really do prefer it, you can tell him you think he’s handsome either way but the mustache is more attractive… If he’s smart, he’ll realize making himself more attractive to his wife has benefits. ?

Omg! I have done all kinds of crazy things to my hair over the course of 15 years together with Mr. Teebear and he only blinked once when I first came home with a perm.

That said he did grow out a moustache over this COVID duration to entertain me as he’s never had facial hair in all our time together. I actually liked it! He hated it and it’s gone now ?

My best friend asked me yesterday why he wanted to shave it and I immediately thought of doing crazy things to hair. Maybe sitting in Zoom meetings he’s been thinking “yep, time to try something new.” He doesn’t really have an answer to why he suddenly made this choice but I do understand.

My sympathies! My husband shaved his beard off one Christmas morning and told me it was my present. Um, no thanks. He looked just awful. It took me six months to stop flinching, then he DYED HIS HAIR, ostensibly because a recruiter told him greying hair was a problem. Ugh. I immediately objected and kept urging him to stop. It took years. The beard is back, the hair is silver, and he looks familiar again.

Good luck. If yours is as stubborn as my hubs is, you’ll need it.

Omgoodness, that’s awful! I’m glad he finally came around. My husband is really vain about his hair. He has a full head of it and it’s a beautiful silver. I’ve decided to just let the mustache play out, hopefully he’ll come around eventually ?

I have only won a few perfume auctions but I’ve been pleased with what I got. It’s all chance on Goodwill because you don’t know how old something is or how it’s been stored, and since it’s donations the employees don’t know either.

Oh gosh; going to have to check it out now! I have had both good and bad luck at these. I scored a small bottle of Shalimar Eau Legere in a lot and a small bottle of original Fendi that is in pretty good shape. But I also got some Chanel No 19 perfume that is skunked!

Started the day in Aerin Eclat de Vert for garden credit points. For me such a great straightforward, nice smelling, collected fragrance. Used to be my travelling for business companion b4 the bug arrrived and travelling for business still was a thing we did.

Moved on to sample Passage D’Enfer in the afternoon. Get a churchy vibe in a good way.

Woke up in vintage no 5 and so far commando post shower. I am really stoked to have a STC package coming my way today. Last night, I found a tick on my older dog and nothing like pulling it out. Going to be watching him for a few days though. I counted 14 mosquito bites from walking the dogs yesterday. I think I will wear a dab of Kyoto for work when I really want is Coco Mademoiselle but that will be post work perfume.

If I remember right, could be wrong though, it comes down to how much CO2 you emit attracts them and there are a couple other factors too. But perfume doesn’t seem to be a factor.

    Hello!
After several days of BWFs, I needed something a bit cozier, so I’m in Bois des Iles today (does the community still know it as Box of Eels?!).

Last week of “school.” Ugh. Just ugh.

My garden right now smells mostly of roses, but if I were to crush the correct plants underfoot, there’d be some herbal fragrances mixed in with them. I smelled an amazing honeysuckle yesterday in someone else’s yard, so I might need to plant one of those soon. I wear lots of rose scents, but nothing honeysuckle. Sounds very “pink,” but maybe there’d be a way to do it justice?

I just got the perfect gift for the CP – the Hermes mini coffret of the Le Jardin series!

My friends and I decided to a secret Santa type thing for Eid this year and this what I got. My secret Santa recipient got from me the most highly rated manual lemon/lime squeezer I could find – because she literally puts lemon on everything — AND a bottle of Wowilla oil. She was very pleased 🙂

I have to say that in between the swap meet, the split meet and my own purchases, I feel like I am drowning in new perfume these days.

Testing today FM Bigarade Concentree from the swap. Very nice. Everything I have tried from FM has been great, I am very impressed with the line. Except oddly the Cuir et Rose one felt unfinished. But I see it is up for an award this year, so what do I know….

The sun makes an apparition this evening, it’s flooding the lounge. In the very fruity Dior Addict Eau Delice, an obscure flanker which I had liked right away. The cranberry and cherry combo is well done, not too sweet, not too tart, and not medicinal, cranberry is an original note.

It suits me really well in warm tsmperatures, I especially like that the cherry is not paired with liquorice and cherry + cranberry is unusual and intriguing. I have a love/not love relation with Addict being so full on, but this flanker is quieter. Do you wear Addict Lillyjo?

I’ve tried a few of the flankers that were available here, but none none really caught my attention. I think the only one left on the shelved now is the edt, which should have gotten it’s on name imo.

The perfume is vegan and of course, I am typing this as I am munching on baked pork rinds. Queen Bee is a fruity floral with black currant, peony and amber in all the right proportions! It’s $24.95 + tax and I have 5% off by using a Target debit card.

I ended up working a bit more last night but got an issue resolved this morning. I really hate not being involved in initial discussions as that would have saved 10 emails. That said, the trail does function as evidence of line of inquiry and the fuzzy answer non-answer.

I owe all emails re: the dibs I placed plus everyone who emailed me on my split offerings. I will do all tonight. Also, I added bottle #2 for Hiram Green Vivacious and have 20 mLs left for dibs. And I am seeing some new offers that I will get in on, not that I need more perfumes but I like shiny objects.

The story of the Zoom bombing cat continues. He seems to know when a call is ending and he’s gotten a little bolder. I don’t know where he popped up from today but he confidently put his paws up against a closed window and stre-e-e-tched. Show off!

Hmm i was just recently reading a review of Queen Bee – I can’t remember where now, but it was a positive one on a niche perfume blog

I wore Ninfeo Mio, because someone mentioned it that weekend, I think it was Deva… I don’t have many garden scents, so must think about this a bit more. Spending the last evening with the boyfriend, had some Gelato at the icecream shop and a nice cold dinner on the balcony.

Home from a cold weekend and walks in fresh snow with stunning views of mountains and lakes. Wearing High Country Tussock for garden week. Yesterday we celebrated zero cases of Covid 19 in the country, no more active cases. So, for the moment ( and hopefully longer), C19 has been eliminated here. I think it may also be a Charles Dickens anniversary but I am a day ahead.

I read your good news in my paper today. Good for New Zealand. It will be interesting to see how NZ will operate from now on.
I almost envy you your snow, although today was a wonderful day, with big cloudy and dramatic skies. Like Ruysdael used to paint them.

I’ve been in several scents today. Went to TJ’s this morning with a neighbor for the first time in ages. TJ’s is always fun, and no crowds! No flour or yeast either, but that’s okay.

Working my way through my Neela sample set with Trayee. I really like this one, but I’m making Cajun beans and rice, so Trayee has some competition. Tried a little spritz on my shoulder of 4160 Tokyo Spring Blossom from the last swap package that arrived today (hey neyronrose!), so I’m claiming cp points. ?

I hope every is having a good Monday. Hugs to all of you wonderful folks! ?

SotD: Vierges et Toreros by EldO, I wanted something with enough raunchy oumph to help ensure social distancing at the grocery store ?

The poplar trees (Cottonwood) are just exploding today, and it looks like it’s snowing cotton in my neighborhood, with hundreds of the seeds drifting through the air and piling up in drifts on the ground. I’ve never been so grateful for mask-wearing being normalized before!!!

Some years my body decides it’s going full allergenic in its response to poplar season, but keeping my face covered while outdoors seemed to make a huge difference.

It’s a Monday, all right. I’ve been irritable for a good chunk of the day for various reasons… mostly minor stuff, so I won’t go into details. Enough little annoying things in a single day, can add up to needing some remedial ice cream though. So, Ice Cream Enabler pin to perfumelover67! I grabbed a couple different flavors of the Haagen Dazs Spirits pints. Now to grab a spoon. ?

SOTD = Hermes Kelly Caleche EdP, from the sample stash. Usually this is a no-brainer and a great grab and go. However, today it isn’t sitting too well with me. Phooey. ?

I may join you in some ice cream later–I have three pints from our local dairy, Halo Farms…..wonderful ice cream and its always “buy two, get a third one free” which makes ice cream shopping a no brainer….everybody pick one then get out a spoon.

Popping in to say I like the peony picture — very pretty. No perfume for me today.

I made Mom cut my bangs. She objected that she wouldn’t be any good at cutting hair. I went to look in a mirror afterward. She had warned me. Now I don’t have bangs, or really anything left there. I was tired of having the bangs in my eyes, and they’ll grow back quickly. Oh, well. I did a better job of cutting her hair. Or at least, she wasn’t loudly distressed when she saw it, and she would have been if she thought it was a total botch job.

I went upstairs and told Dad that Mom had cut my hair. He took a look. I asked him if he wanted me to cut his hair. “No thank you,” he said politely. I asked. lol

On the days it was very hot with thunderstorms last week, I really didn’t do anything productive. I stayed inside for the most part. I guess it’s not so different from what many people are doing. I mainly just read novellas. On other days I did errands and shopping and planted my garden plants. Still a few to plant, but I have ideas of where I want them.

Thank you, Robin. I’ll keep that in mind for the next time. LOL!
That’s about all I can do about it now, because there’s nothing much left to experiment on at the moment. 😉 I tried to fix up the asymmetry, but my efforts didn’t really help. On the bright side, my hair likely won’t be hanging into my eyes again for a good few months. lol
