Tuesday scent of the day 2/18

Posted by Robin on 18 February 2020 170 Comments

It's Tuesday, Drink Wine Day and Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Birthdays today: John Travolta, Yoko Ono, Paco Rabanne, Toni Morrison, Louis Comfort Tiffany. What fragrance are you wearing?

Because of Madtowngirl & Tiffanie, I'm in Hermès Eau Claire des Merveilles layered with Eau des Merveilles. Tea at the moment is an organic Colombian Tippy Black, brewed with nutmeg, cardamom and a pinch of roasted cacao nibs.

Reminder: on 2/21, wear a fragrance by Parfum d'Empire, Parfums DelRae, Penhaligon's, Pacifica or Parfumerie Generale, if you have one. (Yes, we already did a community project for Parfums de Nicolaï). Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter P.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Tiffany Weave teapot ("Inspired by elements of ancient Celtic design, this exclusive basket-weave pattern is rich in detail and includes a twisted rope motif.") is $195.

I think I’m winning as I feel a lot better than yesterday. In celebration of this happy event I’m wearing Début. It is seriously gorgeous.

I’ve finished two teapots of Jardin des Songes by Palais des Thés.

I’m feeling pretty much okay too, just a little bit of sore throat still, crossing fingers and knocking on wood. Glad to hear you are better too!

Good morning from soggy Atlantis! (I mean, Atlanta!) :)

Wearing a new sample that is now a new favorite that will soon be a new full bottle the next time I order online….Guerlain Eau de Cashmere. WOW!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this light cozy fluffy warm scent! I think it was originally marketed as a scent to spray on your clothes and/or layer with other things, but it’s gorgeous on its own. Another winner from Guerlain!

Penhaligon’s Malabah and Paul Emilien Pure Addiction. I figured that since they are both herbal and spicy they should layer well, and they do. However, Pure Addiction turned out to be a much stronger scent and completely dominated Malabah.

S + M’s Seven White Flowers. I found this perfumer while I was out traveling in California. I bought a bottle of her perfume (a different one – Ghost-Amnesia) and was really excited about it. Then a really horrible thing happened – I left the bag by accident on the hotel counter and when I went back to retrieve it, it was GONE.

And it was the last bottle in the shop!

Luckily the perfumer was able to ship me another bottle. Seven White Flowers came as a sample and I’m in love with it too. It is a perfect balance among jasmine, tiare, honeysuckle, rose, ylang ylang and orange blossom and it smells so beautiful.

I was really upset as it was not an impulse purchase. I took a small sample with me and traveled around CA for a week before returning to SF and bought it from Tigerlily. I guess I just never thought that someone would not turn it in to the front desk.

I mean – what kind of person picks up a bag with a bottle of perfume and a bottle of kombucha in it, and thought to him/herself “that sounds like a party, I should keep it”?

This is was my favorite review line for your SOTD:
“After all, Aphrodite was born of the sea foam: follow the milky skin of thighs and you’ll find a bit of the sea there too… This may actually be the world’s stealthiest erotic scent: Jean-Claude Ellena’s intensely civilised stylisation of the yin to Sécrétions Magnifiques’ yang. But then again, my mind may just be playing tricks on me because I’m in a… playful mood. Go figure.”

    Cristalle
Though its too crisp for a day like today so I think I may switch to Shalimar later on.

Tea this morning in my own homemade chai..Mr L is still not feeling well, so I made this for him. My 3rd child.. ;)

Sitting in my car for a few more minutes while the layer of ice dethaws and having a very sleepy Tuesday-Monday. I woke up right in the middle of a stressful dream where my car was lost, stolen, or towed and it was taking way too much effort to get some help with it. Glad to walk outside and see my car where it belongs albeit covered in ice. I’m wearing PdE Cuir Ottoman and loving it.

Jasmins Marzipane for an early morning breakfast with some women. Just a touch. But…one woman was struggling with what she called competing fragrances. So, will remember to not spritz next time.

Big excitement for my morning was a friend in FL texting me an article saying a Trader Joe’s is planning to move into the longtime-empty space just up the street from us. Would be fabulous.

No idea. I didn’t notice anything personally. She wasn’t next to me. So, it might not have been my scent at all. And could have been hand lotion for all I know. But, I’m happy to respect a sensitivity. First time she’s commented.

I clean my teapots daily with hot water, then once every couple weeks, fill with hot water, put in two Efferdent tablets, let it sit overnight. That clears out the stains.

Yep, tea stains, especially my teeth! I actually am down to one teapot right now. I usually just brew in an oversized mug with an infuser basket, since I have to restrict my caffeine intake. If I had a pot full of tea, I would drink it all. ?

I must need more coffee, I read the intro above as “Drink wine and eat ice cream for breakfast” Day, and imagined something like an affogato, but with wine. Hmmm…

    Lovely tea, Robin. Yum!

SOTD: nada; I couldn’t get it together this morn having added exercise and walking a friend’s dog I’m watching, and the sample I thought I had in my bag is really in my coat. I always miss not having fragrance on but I will survive!

In Wrappings which is very piney today, there is a stage where it smells quite close to Winter Delice. I took a stroll near the lake this afternoon as I had the day off, the water birds seem to really enjoy the seeded bread I brought. They were three wild geese, very tame.

Crikey, it’s both Drink Wine Day and Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day? When is Eat Your Vegetables Day? We desperately need that in the US anyway.
Rhinoceros by Zoologist is my scent today. The more I wear this the more complicated and multifaceted I find it. I was only hoping it would help me charge through today with some gusto.
Dune was yesterday’s scent but I didn’t get a chance to either read or post.
Eat your vegetables, folks! Then reward yourself with some wine and ice cream, if you so desire! Even for breakfast, if it’s not too late! I’m also feeling quite silly today I guess.

I’m wearing Zelda by EnVoyage today, as it was a cold morning and I needed something with some punch. I also tried Tom Ford Rose Prick over the weekend and I have to say I’m much less impressed than I thought I’d be. It goes on promising — a green and indeed thorny rose, but the drydown is bath soap. Anything with a name that provocative deserves more boldness.

In more positive fragrance news, I’ve been rediscovering some neglected perfume oils (Alkemia primarily) that are just fab, and inexpensive too. I’m also intrigued by new brand Anonim, especially “Black Ambergris” of the following description:

“Sumptuously rich and intoxicating notes of dark chocolate, balsamic resins, and smoothly smoky incense give a feeling of enveloping serenity, while the elegance of black ambergris, chosen for its almost gourmand-adjacent sweetness, evokes the mouthwatering, deeply warming sensations of a perfectly crafted bespoke cocktail”

May have to order a sample of this!

Correction, I don’t have Arborist and have all the others. So, if you order Trimerous (which I think you like), you can get 3 free samples ( I always specify which ones I want). I can also send you samples except one of my bottles is missing in action — it happens (Nectary).

I’m in Atelier Cologne Love Osmanthus – which is cheery, bright, happy-go-lucky but mostly citrus on me, with just a hint of flowers… Fig Tea remains unmatched in my affections for osmanthus fragrance.

The teapot is beautiful – why are all the teapots so expensive though?

I do show cheaper teapots sometimes, but you’re right that I’m usually looking for a good (or apt, like today, since it is Tiffany’s birthday) image more than a cheap teapot.

These are my teapots, both reasonably priced:

Sorry I meant it more as a general remark, not complaining about the lovely teaware you have here…
I have a friend who is a massive tea lover and I gifted her a quite exorbitantly priced bone china one once. It’s just.. I’d like to be able to gift her more of the teapots that I see here but dang, pretty teaware is crazy expensive everywhere… :)

    SotD = Eau des Merveilles!

Wearing it again because yesterday I thought I should give EdM some more love.

Dear Robin, so glad you enjoyed EdM today, too. The way it layers beautifully is another one of the reasons I love it. It somehow holds a light up to other fragrances. Sometimes I get a fantastic “day after” echo of a perfume when I wear EdM the next day.

Super late but so glad to be here. :D
