Happy Art House / Stunt Perfume Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that you find weird and wonderful but that might not be appreciated by anyone but another perfumista. Bonus points if you've ever received a spontaneous negative response or odd question and still wear it! Thanks to HemlockSillage for the idea.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in one of the few fragrances that I never wear out of the house: Serge Lutens Miel de Bois. They do still make this one, but I can only imagine that it's softer and mellower than it used to be. If you've tried a recent version, do comment!
Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance by Chanel, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2014.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning and Happy FriYAY yet again….
Enjoying 2 sprays of the weird but wonderful Bvlgari Black. Only a true perfume lover wants to smell like a vanilla tire….That would be me today!
I considered that one as well. Only no one has ever commented on it. Great fragrance and surprisingly easy to wear.
I love the idea of it, and I will probably keep my small bottle, but honestly I can’t wear it. The vanilla in this just overwhelms me.
Mmmm vanilla tire:). Yummy. Lol.
That was my pick too! Husband hates it, covers his nose! And it’s quite strong so l can’t just do a stealth spray.
And yes l am a true perfumista
You smell great! I’m thrilled that I got a bottle of it in the swapmeet. Enjoy your FriYAY!
Wore it yesterday. Yay for vanilla tires!
I gues I’m not a true perfumista, I get no vanilla, just rubber tire. Actually, more like 4 rubber tires! I’m with sariah’s hubby on this one!
Sadly, I got all rubber tires too, so I’m in good company.
No can do Bvlgari Black… it’s an insta-headache for me.
I’m wearing Rien. It’s my one odd perfume that I’ve had commented upon. Someone I work with once said she found it strange, but that it suited me. Which suits me fine. She actually loves perfume but her tastes run to gourmands and orientals. Chanel Coco is one of her favourites as is Lolita by Lolita Lempicka. Out of what I wear she really likes Vamp à New York, Black Cashmere and she is nuts about Bois de Paradis.
Tea is MF Montagne d’Or.
I really l ik le Rien and don’t find it as challenging now as I did when I 1st smelled it a number of years ago.
I would also take what she said as a compliment ?
It was actually meant that way, I think. We get on very well, and she has always been really respectful (and interested in perfume!).
You smell great!
Its so unique and recognisable…a few months ago I found a vial without a label in my stash, but when I tried it i knew it was Rien!
It is a very distinctive scent. I adore it and it somehow always manages to destress me.
I visited the lovely Loire Castle Azay-le-Rideau some 6 or 7 years ago and I swear the attic there smelled almost exactly like Rien.
Oh dear, another castle to add to my ‘visit’ list ?
I dont believe in reincarnation but somehow Rien transports me to a place unknown to me that feels very familiar. like I lived there in a former life haha
I can see that. It felt oddly familiar and lived in to me as well. And I had never smelt anything like it before.
Azay is very, very lovely. Not as crowded as Chenonceau or Chambord, but very much worth a visit. It has been restored since my visit. Villandry is very close to Azay and has some of the most spectacular gardens in France.
You smell magnific!
I wore the younger brother, Rien Intense Incense. I think I still love Rien more.
I also love Rien Intense Incense, but like you I think I love Rien more. And thanks for you compliment! You smell wonderful too!
Very nice choice for today! Rien is both weird and wearable.
Serve Lutens Miel de Bois (a tiny spritz, because I’m at work), which I think most people would find at least weird and probably incomprehensible. But I love it so much!
Serge, obviously. Stupid autocorrect.
Your typo almost created the end of a great cake recipe ??
Hey! I didn’t notice until hours later that you were also wearing it (because I skipped the intro and went right to the comments — sorry).
No need to apologize!
SOTD is TF Violet Blonde, and the art it conjures for me is hypothetical, or aspirational, or maybe just delusional, which maybe qualifies for points in today’s CP. As I was thinking about the name “Violet Blonde” and the vibe I get from the scent, I thought “what if Andy Warhol decided to produce a new take on one of Georgia O’Keeffe’s iconic animal skull paintings?” That would be … interesting.
Ha, yes it would.
I think it more likely would be Warhol painting Lady Gaga!
Oh you smell great, this one I always describe as an austere violet.
I am in Bengale Rouge for a sample. This is definitely not in the CP as I doubt anyone would find it strange – it’s lovely and very wearable. I cant stop sniffing my wrist.
In other news Venitiane came in and I plan to send out the splits this weekend. I’m hoping Oeillet Bengale will come in today too so I can do it all in one go. It’s taking awhile.
Happy Friday everyone!
Vétiver By Annick Goutal
Only a perfumista would understand that perfumes have no gender
Well said! ?
I should have snapped up the bottle that I passed on. You smell fantastic!
I really want to wear Timbuktu or Dhzonka today (probably weird enough to qualify), but I’m choosing good sportsmanship and wearing wacky for the CP. On one wrist I have Steidl Paper Passion-Perfume, and on the other I have CB I Hate Perfume In the Library. Former gives me ink, like in a new magazine. The latter I can’t smell at all, maybe because the sample is really old. I’ve been considering the possibility of returning to work as a librarian.
Timbuktu strikes you as weird? Say more! I think of it as strong perhaps but I have so few references points for what others think I am curious your thoughts.
I think Timbuktu struck me as VERY weird when I smelled it as a newbie perfumista.
Timbuktu seems to emphasize different notes for different people. For me, it is a woody floral, almost gardenia-like, with a distinct soapy note, in the best way. I have NEVER heard anyone else describe it as such, however. I love it!
For me it was pure soap, although it’s been a few years since I last tried it. I got a new sample as an extra in the Splitmeet, I’ll have to try it again and see if I can smell anything else. It’s the only thing I know of other than Shaal Nur that has a note of karo-karounde, so I was hoping to love it, but I am not a fan of soapy perfume.
I’m wearing Dzongkha. My sister always pulls a face when I wear this one around her, but never says anything. She doesn’t get my love of perfumes. But Dzongkha is one of my desert island fragrances. I will say that I am going to be glad to wear something from a house other than L’Artisan tomorrow. I wonder if I can find my decant of Azemour.
…and I am wearing Safran Troublant, which is usually a bed-time scent.
I think Dzongkha is downright beautiful and you smell amazing.?
Dzongkha to me is a wheat-colored, woven silk shawl. Funny that it bugs your sister!
Twins! I love Dzongkha and it is definitely weird. The first time I smelled it I recoiled, but then gradually I fell in love.
Quadruplets, I think!
Commando for now but will decide shortly … maybe Bvlgari Black or something else.
PSA – a real one this time! Macy’s has 15% off Beauty until Nov. 11, including Chanel. You need to go see the lipstick size travel spray set of No. 5 EDP and L’Eau. Don’t judge – I went weak in the knees. I was powerless…Resistance was futile…you can whisper in your cat’s (or dog’s) ear on how to reward your good behavior…
What a great deal Macy’s has! Thanks for the PSA!
They have a good selection of Chanels too!
Excellent PSA! Thank you so much!
Happy to enable if you were eyeing something ?
Weak in the knees? Yup. I got the notice from Luckyscent today that Le Cri is back in stock, and gasped audibly in the day hospital where I was keeping my son company–he was getting infusions and tests… The nurses all looked at me with some serious consternation! (Zipped off an email to my husband that it was imperative I get a bottle for Xmas!)
Get it now on sale at Beautyhabit, 20% off!
Ayeeeeee… can’t figure out the 20% off, and it says sold out…. ???
Okay. Have code, but perfume is still sold out. To slow… to slow…. (throws herself to the ground and pounds it with her fists. . .)
What cazaubon said!
And Nordstrom is price matching!
Nordstrom also price matched the Sephora discount … just show the email or your coupon. Thanks for the reminder!
I am wearing Miss Dior Original. When I first tried it a few years ago, my husband said that it was okay, but nothing special . I loved it though, and have bought and used two decants. A year later, my daughter was at the Dior boutique in Epcot Disney world with some friends, and I asked her to pick me up a bottle of Miss Dior to bring back home to me. Her friends all said “wow, we know your Mom loves perfume, so this must be really something good!” My daughter and her friends were all in their early 20s, and you can guess their reaction. They hated it.
I didn’t care.
My bottle of this sits proudly on my shelf, and I love wearing this.
Ha, they have their own Miss Dior which you can scoff at in turn
The original Miss Dior has been in my top five literally for decades – I’ve worn it, and loved it, since I was a teenager. I wonder, if I were a teenager in today’s world, would I feel the same way?
I’m wearing Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Cheri, par Camille, a fragrance that once caused a woman standing at a bus stop with me to make loud, dramatic gagging noises and announce to all and sundry how unbearable she found it.
She clearly had appalling taste and awful manners
It was one of my options for today as well. I think it’s a stunning fragrance, but I do understand it’s not for everyone.
I completely agree. MPCPC is a wonderful fragrance, I’ve hoarded several of the lovely red glass bottles.
I once took some artwork to a meeting with a museum curator, and I wore a touch of my favorite fume for good luck (Chergui). The curator started gagging and choking, citing allergies. She acted like I was deliberately trying to kill her. Luca Turin wrote about perfume allergies in a mean-spirited way. He doesn’t believe they’re real. Not liking a perfume isn’t the same as an allergy!
Heartily, completely and vehemently seconded.
Well, while I do think that’s often true, my best friend here has recently been suffering from pretty dreadful breathing problems. I’m sure they’re aggravated when I go near her with any perfume on, which is usually. I can hear her coughing get worse. She never has complained but I won’t wear any around her any more. She has seen allergists and a pulmonologist and can’t find relief, and it’s scary. I suspect it might be due to mold in our awful climate. We have both had repeated roof leaks after our terrible storms, especially Harvey. It’s very frustrating
Unlike Luca Turin, I believe allergies are real! But his point was that people have overwrought emotional responses to fragrances they don’t like. I have a good friend with asthma, and strong scents trigger a bad reaction for her.
gosh how rude. some people can be real c*nts
Really? Horrible. Horrible. How did you respond?
Honestly, I didn’t say anything because I had no real idea how to respond at all, it was such a weird scene. I’ll note that this was an open-air bus stop, and she could have just moved away from me at any point she wanted to.
CdG Garage and a tiny bit of SSS Fireside Intense. I smell like a barbecue outside a Jiffy Lube. Perfect.
I think creating your own weirdness should give you double points.
FM Une fleur de Cassie. Lovely cassie/mimosa but there is a definite dirty diaper note. Once you’ve smelled it, you cannot “unsmell” it.
Which version have you got?
I have three travel sprays. The only “barcode” I can see is a number printed in shiny black on black above the volume on the label. Mine is 12768104. Hope this helps!
I don’t know when the reformulation took place. But I remember first trying it in 2008 and being intrigued but not smitten. I retried it around 2012/1013 and it was much more radiant. When did you get your travel spray?
Only last year. So I never smelled the pre-reformulation version.
In this case I really prefer the reformulation. It has more radiance. It is a great scent.
Ha, it smells totally tame to me.
I went with B Fazzolari Fontevraud, which is a pretty unusual arty, fruity (guava!) rose chypre. No comments, but I think someone here mentioned it here recently as being challenging because of the tropical fruit note.
Oooh, guava is one of the great weird fruit scents. I bet you smell fantastic.
I really like it, but never got a bottle and it was a Ltd edition ?
I missed out too, Fontevraud is great.
Guava! I love that smell. Guava trees grow like weeks around here, right now they are dropping ripe fruit like crazy. The smell is intoxicating or revolting depending on one’s nose.
haHAha, guavas grow like weeds around here!
Nove weed to have! I love the flavor, too. A family friend had a pineapple guava tree growing up in L.A. Always looked forward to eating those!
Is a pineapple guava different than other ones?
Now a fragrance based on durian fruit would be maximally challenging!
I *love* quava-stuffed empanadas! The thought of it is making my mouth water.
Oooops! Should be “guava” up above.
SOTD is Secretions Magnifiques EdP by Etat Libre. I love this perfume, it smells like leather and oud. When my MIL complimented me on it, I was tongue-tied as how to describe it.
Oh, that’s just awesome!
I have a small bottle from a discovery set and can’t bring myself to tey it because of the name.
Monica, try it, you may be pleasantly surprised!
gulp… I .. will…
The clean monkey / sweaty stripper description is hilarious! What does a clean monkey smell like? is there such a thing?
clean like a monkey well licked by other monkeys? or washed by a vet?
with perfumed shampoo?
so many questions.
I like it too. If you rub some on your nightshirt, you’ll wake up with a beautiful smell. It’s a lot of fun. First you get through the clean monkey/sweaty stripper part, then the rest is a wafty, salty floralish thing. I used to work with silver, so I love the smell of metal.
I think the phrase “clean monkey/sweaty stripper” is the funniest thing I’ve heard today.
ITA, I love this scent, it gets a bit of a bad rap and on me, it’s quite enjoyable, but I wear Odd Duckie scents well…. go figure!
I went with Felanilla. It’s weird and wonderful with notes of medicinal green vanilla, iris with a banana leaf note. I don’t recall any negative comments about it except from my husband who doesn’t count. ?
Your husband is bananas!
Of course you smell wonderful.
He says the same thing about many of my perfumes which is why I stopped listening. ?
Lost Cherry – I will finish this bottle soon! Longevity is meh, but I still love this. I am going to wear Vtg Opium later because the weather is calling for it! TGIF ?
I love LC..the longevity is meh but so good I would be willing to reapply over and over. I think this is the only perfume on my wishlist…come on Santa! I was kind of good this year? Lol.
I’m sampling it today, the longevity isn’t so bad on me. But it’s $$$ and I already have SL Rahat Loukhoum & Louve so I can’t really justify buying it.
I wanted to wear LL Patchouli 24 today for the burnt-rubber note, but couldn’t find my decant. So I went with (for me) the obvious: Zoologist’s T-Rex. It’s definitely a beast!
I was originally going to wear the LL also but In the Library caught my eye first.
LL Patchouli 24 was on my shortlist as well.
I went with Cyber Garden from Costume National. I’ve never tried this before, but when I was checking reviews on Fragrantica there were certainly some haters present.
The art this creates in my mind isn’t all that futuristic, it’s more of a color field painting deep verdant green, simultaneously bright and dark, almost glowing
Forgot all about that one!
The gimmicky but delightful I Be The Witch of the Wood, from Sixteen92 who are gimmicky to begin with, with their broad witch theme. It smells like laying on the forest floor with the sun filtered through the trees, taking the first bite of a fresh red apple.
Gimmicky or not, It sounds wonderful!
Sounds like someone’s take on a Disney flick in a good way!
Lush Death and Decay. It’s a fuggy lily that Provoked a comment from some people sitting near me in a movie once . To be fair I had just come straight from testing multiple perfumes at Lush and elsewhere so was probably highly flammable and OTT.
Well, if you cleared the surrounding seats, your view was probably better! ?
“highly flammable”. I’m so keeping that one.
I like that one, though I don’t find it as weird as I’d hoped it would be. The name is terrific!
?! I’m loving the “highly flammable” comment!
CB I Hate Perfume In The Library. I don’t find it weird but I think my pre-perfumista self would have thought it unusual.
Scent twins! I don’t think it smells weird — I can barely tell it’s there! But . . . It isn’t named for flowers or loveliness or emotions.
Seattle Chocolate since the combination of bitter chocolate and fir is definitely weird
I actually had a chocolate bar in Montréal this past year that was those exact flavours! It was interesting.
Oh, I am wanting that bar now.
Triplets with Robin and pyramus in Miel de Bois! I’ve also added a dab of Holy Grail by Dua which is a favorite and I find it to pretty much go with everything. I’m quite content smelling like honey, cat pee and freshly turned soil!
Yay, now we qualify as a club.
With that description, part of me wants to smell it, and part of me is going “Are you kidding?”
CBIHP Black March for me this morning. I really do love smelling like dirt. No one has ever commented on my perfume, good or bad, but a boyfriend once asked what I was wearing and it was Tocade.
Tocade was gorgeous! I haven’t smelled it in forever.
I’m wearing dirt, too, but the Demeter version. Pretty funny about Tocade!
I love Tocade and am going to order a new bottle soon.
Now Tocade smells like burning plastic to me—definitely one of the weirdest things I’ve ever tried, but apparently not weird at all to anyone else.
Baking flour, rice pudding and plaster dust – Bois Farine, L’Artisan Parfumeur.
heh heh, perfect description!
I think of all the fine fragranced folks that post here, you tend to post the most that I’ve never heard of! LOL I always have to switch over to Fragrantica and see what in the heck you’re wearing….
I think Bois Farine is a must smell… ?
Smell Bent Artists Studio has a vivid plaster note which I like.
BF smells like peanut flour/meal to me, which doesn’t actually make it less weird, lol.
Me too. Peanuts! ?
Yes, peanuts and not much else on me, too. I wonder what causes that?
Someone called that one hamster cage shavings and that always stuck with me
You smell great.
I’m in Gucci Guilty Absolute, weird and wonderful bandaids marinated in bourbon.
You smell fantastic.
Thanks, BobH! You likewise smell fabulous in Bois Farine. I treasure my bottle of that one.
Oh that sounds awesome! I have to remember to sniff that one!
SotD = Nicolai L’eau Mixte
Not too strange to my nose, but this scent did make a friend sneeze like crazy when I wore it. We were in her car on our way to a movie. I wish I could remember what movie.
Ah, well, in any case it is cool now but will be quite warm here today, so L’eau Mixte works. It’s like a citrus cologne was welded to a slightly spicy-furry scent with a dollop of rose. I think anyone could wear it and enjoy. Love it.
That’s such a fun one! You smell great today.
aw, thank you, Nancyleandros!
Hahaha did your friend realize it was your scent that made her sneeze?
oh yeah, she blamed me right away! There is something that smells a little “sharp” to my nose in all of the Nicolai scents I’ve tried. I don’t mind it, but I can understand how it might cause a few “ah-choos”!
Bat. And to be even bolder, I sprayed one little spray under my shirt on my stomach before a flight. I don’t think it’s crazy noticeable to anyone other than me. I hope haha. This is the first time I’ve ever worn it out of the house and I put it on 3 hours before I flew.
Did you get any comments or weird looks?
SotD is Vetiver Extraordinaire
Funny, in colder weather the resinous basenotes smell stronger to me… either way its a great scent
Btw it does not fit the CP at all.
I think this is a crowd pleaser (yes non-perfumistas like it a lot) and the only thing that prevents it from becoming a best seller like some Diors and Lancomes is the price tag hahaha. ?
That is interesting. I’ve never had any compliments on the vetivers I own. I really like VE, a very pure and elegant fragrance.
A bit of CP here as I’m wearing Givenchy Le De. No complaints yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone would mention chique catpee to me…. I will not wear it any less ?
I’ve thought of myself as always up for the weird and challenging, but it turns out that I’m not that adventurous perfume-wise. I’ll try anything once, but not always twice.
Like others here, I’ve got a few home-only perfumes (Salome, Miel de Bois, Absolu Pour Le Soir), I’m a bit anxious about all the Fragrantica and Basenotes comments about pee and poo
I’m going to a fabric sale this morning, I’m hoping to find a few vintagey things, so I think a classic like Mitsouko is called for.
My sister always gets poo out of any jasmine perfume. It’s odd that her perception is so different to mine.
And classic Mitsouko is always right!
I like Mitsouko a lot. It smells like a rainy day in St Augustine.
Someone once mentioned to me that boxwood shrubs smell like cat pee, and sure enough, on a hot summer day they sure can!
I went with Andy Tauer Orange Star today. There are so many I can chose from but wanted to fly under the radar today.
I haven’t tried that one, but think Andy Tauer is a true artist.
You should. I really like it and I am not a citrus in perfume fan.
Commando but gunna try to find my Musc Rav sample..only a perfumista would wanna smell like a vanilla cinnamon cat…Christmas cat. Lol.
Love Musc Ravaguer! Have you tried the older formulation? MEOW
It sounds like you wear Musc Rav much better than I did… I had to rehome my sample. I smelled like a sweaty farrier.
Oh, no! I couldn’t smell the musk at all, and just got dry spices. Wonder what I smelled like to other people?
Wearing M/Mink by Byredo and find it very soothing- who cares that a friend said that it smells like cat pee. I get an inky honey incense
Love M/M Ink, it’s wonderfully weird.
For the CP I chose Comme des Garcons EDP, which is this one: https://www.beautyhabit.com/collections/comme-des-garcons/products/comme-des-garcons-eau-de-parfum
Notes are Aldehydes, Safraleine, Hawthorns, Lilac Flower Oxides, Industrial Glue, Brown Sticky Tape, Musk, Styrax
This was very hard to find for the last 5 years or so and showed up at Beautyhabit sometime in the last year, though it’s already marked down there. I think it’s surprisingly light and wearable for the listed notes. I found my bottle last year from a third party seller on Amazon for around $75. I’d been searching for it for a few years. I’d first heard of it when I briefly worked for a perfume/beauty store in 2013. When the store had their going out of business sale, a customer called looking for it and bought the tester bottle. He said he was obsessed with it but couldn’t find it anywhere. I’d only sniffed it at the nozzle, but of course I eventually became obsessed with finding it.
When my bottle arrived, it was sealed. But when I opened it, i discovered that the top part of the sprayer had broken off, so it sits oon top loosely and anytime the call is removed, the top of the sprayer falls out with it. Luckily, if you work it a little bit, it will spray mostly fine. I’ve thought of trying to split it by using the syringe method to decant, but I’d likely need to test it out first with a thin syringe. Let me know if anyone would be interested in such a split, and I will try to find the appropriate syringe.
Sorry for the long post!
It sounds intriguing, I’ve never smelled that one. I have CdG Dot in that same funky bottle shape. If you decide to split it, I’m in.
Got you in mind now, thanks!
Please count me in as well. Thanks.
I’m wearing Demeter Dirt which smells just like freshly dug garden soil. I think it smells wonderful and actually have gotten several compliments wearing it over the years. People tend to recoil, though, when I tell them its name.
I’ve been wearing a lot of Chanel this week, Coromandel, Cuir de Russie and Bois des Isles. I think there’s a sort of earthy, dirt smell somewhere at the bottom of all three of these, too. Probably no one but a fellow perfumista, and maybe not so many of them, would think that was a good thing.
I like that Demeter–insanely fleeting on me, but a really nice scent.
I definitely get a dirt note from Coromandel, I assume it’s the patchouli.
Hmmmmmm… next time I try my Coromandel sample, I will pay attention for an earthy note.
Who would want to smell like a chili pepper except, perhaps, a perfumista? And not just a plain ole chili pepper, but one dusted with celery, mint, cumin, and thyme from my veggie and herb gardens, sprinkled with bits of artemisia and geranium from my flower garden, squirted with a spritz of lime, all nestled on a soft, woody/mossy base. Weird, you say? I say, weird but wonderful! With more than 20 fragrance notes, Dame Perfumery’s new Chilehead is my contribution to today’s cp.
Very cold but very sunny here today, looking forward to the weekend ahead. We’ll be celebrating Mr. Laila’s birthday tonight, then I’ll be working at our library’s book sale this weekend. As a library ‘junkie,’ it’s a favorite event of mine. Best of all, the cat with the broken paw is now free of the heavy shoulder-high splint/bandage she lugged around for 8 whole weeks. Yay!
I hope the weekend ahead holds something special for all NST’ers.
That sounds so good! Really need to try this.
Happy birthday to Mr. Laila and yay for kitty! I am a library junky too.
Happy Birthday wishes to Mr. Laila, and congratulations to the kitty! ???
I went to our neighboring town’s library book sale today—they have two a year, and they’re always great, although I did have to do some major KonMari-ing a few years ago. They had vinyl records three for a dollar, so I ended up with a dozen. (Whoops.) Saw a wonderful string quartet tonight, too, so the weekend is off to a great start!
Aether Carboneum here. Boyfriend hates it and baby seems unhappy with the choice too.
I guess I’ll shower since one of them gets really dramatic
It’s supposed to evoke a day at the seaside – primarily by smelling like a scuba diving wetsuit . It does it really well, it’s quite fresh too. But definitely odd for most people.
Too funny! Hope the drama was kept to a minimum. Wetsuit is an interesting smell, but I don’t know how long I’d like it to linger.
Hah you are so right. Definitely didn’t think through when I bought it. It does smell original and intriguing and memory evoking when you first spray it on. trouble is you keep smelling like it.
I was paid 100 cash today for a small upholstery and refinishing job. So I decided I can have a 30 dollar perfume. What do I see at Ross dress for Less? Pleasures, 29.99. I’m wearing beat up cut off shorts, dirty aqua blue crocs, and slicked my hair up like a soft serve ice cream and I smell like a very well kept ladies room in the hamptons. That’s pretty subversive. Smelling classy, but looking like the security guard should keep an eye on me. They also had Ghiradelli peppermint bark.
Thanks for the smile!!
I really like your style. Such a great description: “a really well kept ladies room in the hamptons,” lol.
Ghirardelli peppermint bark is yummy!
I ate the whole bag.
I never understood how can anyone open a bag or bar of chocolate and settle with just eating a small piece
Back from a week-long work trip and thrilled to be reacquainted with my perfumes (although I traveled with decants of three faves–Naja, Laudano Nero, and Lime, Basil & Mandarin). Okay. I am just going to say it. I am not in love with Sunday. Tried it last night, and again today… I want to test it a bit more in case my nose is off–this happens from time to time. But so far it goes on smelling like butter-flavored popcorn topping and cucumber. The butter/not butter hit fades fairly quickly, but what is left never seems to quite gel. I am not getting matcha or chai. I am fan of Saturday, and hugely supportive of independent perfumers… but this one, so far, has not been my cup of tea. (Like what I did there???)
Oof. Thanks for killing any potential lemming! Just the thought of popcorn butter+cucumber made me a little queasy. Though, I’m not a tea scent or gourmand lover, so I was actually already pretty safe.
Wow, that sounds rather sickening. I was leery of the notes and therefore didn’t participate in the kickstarter. Feeling like that was a good call.
Ew. Sounds like the AS perfumes ought to be sampled, rather than blindly bought.
Weirdo scent of the day is Fourreau Noir, like a fur coat with lavender moth balls. It’s a great scent for colder weather.
Met lots of old friends and colleagues at the congress, so had lots of catching up and gossiping. The congress was good too. Tomorrow we will meet with another friend for dinner and will hopefully have a nice evening too
I don’t find Fourreau Noir weird, it is a huge love of mine. You smell great!
Smelling edgy and conceptual in Byredo Sundazed ?
Not particularly on the CP, I tried Arielle Shoshana Sunday today. I got a travel spray from the kickstarter. It’s definitely different from anything in my collection. Something in the far dry down was bugging me a little. Now I’m wearing Stash perfume and oil as we head to another very cold playoff football game.
First things first: I’d like to say a rather belated “Thank You” to neyronrose for her condolences about Pixel kitty. I hope that I haven’t forgotten anyone.
Second: the only perfumes I have gotten less than positive comments on are surprisingly mainstream. I didn’t feel like wearing YSL Opium or indolic jasmines today.
SOTD = Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple, from my bottle. I might have found this one a little strange before I fell down the perfumed rabbit hole. On me, it smells like the best gingerbread ever for a few hours… sweet and a little spicy. No incense that I can detect. It’s a good perfume for today’s cold snap.
Oh my goodness, I had not seen your post about Pixel kitty. The last I heard, Pixel was improving. I’m so sorry for your loss!
Thanks ScentSpirit. Pixel was improving, and had made it through a 3-week course of antibiotics, but then she suddenly went downhill in about a week’s time.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. Heartbreaking. My deepest condolences. So hard.
I hope you are able to enjoy Opium soon. I have my eye on a vintage bottle which may be calling my name!
I like the smell of Opium from the bottle all the time, but wearing it on skin is mood-dependent for me.
And good luck on getting your hands on that vintage bottle!
Squid. Nope, don’t think I will be purchasing a full bottle.
It was a hard no for me too.
I’m reading up from the bottom, and can’t wait to find out what this is in reference to.
Insolence. Which to me is a weird thing to wear on a very cold day, because it’s such a cold scent. And the opening is nail polish remover to me, which I don’t mean as criticism.
Another soup try for the cold weather. Wafting a nice scent through my apartment.
Oh, I happen to love Insolence! I think it’s one of my ‘fun’ frags. Although I also love ISM and most anything with a rooty Iris vibe; these scents have also been described as cold.
Started the day in BeauFort London “Lignum Vitae”, which smells comfortingly of ginger biscuits and lime and therefore is no good for the project, although great for an early morning start.
Then I forgot my plan to switch to Parfums de Marly “Hamdani”, which would have qualified admirably. It is strong stuff! But instead I had fun doing non-perfumey stuff and failed the project completely ?
Having fun is the important thing, anyway.
Today I put on just a little bit of Teint de Neige, which can be very strong on me. I do get an almond note, and usually this note in perfumes fades quickly on me, but not here, and that is why I like this one. I did have this scent on one time when I met friend for lunch and she actually started coughing because she detected a big powdery note wafting around, which apparently she was sensitive to. She didn’t mention the almond. She wasn’t trying to be mean, but just reacted badly.
I almost choked a co-worker out with L’Occitane almond hand cream. I could barely smell anything.
I meant to say, Robin, that I find that a truly marvelous photo for today! In fact, I went over to Flickr to find who the artist was who made that image in the photo (though I’m still not sure of its medium). I got totally sidetracked because the photographer has many marvelous photos of his cats, who are Siamese and Burmese. So, thank you!
Isn’t that just amazing?? I get sidetracked in flickr nearly every day.
This is the original art work, which I think is a painting from a photograph:
One of my strangest perfumes which I’m wearing today is Cacharel Eden, a wet tropical forest scent.
sounds lovely really. i never tried it, though i saw it in stores a lot. jus the plastic bottle is a turn off.
but will do!
Not sure this is a ‘weirdo’ scent, but I’m wearing Lush Kerbside Violet tonight.
Ambre Loup for SoTD. I was inspired by the NST’er yesterday who wore Menchant Loup.
I haven’t worn this one for a year or so and the cold weather was a nice reason to bring the ambre & labdandum warmth back out.
Happy Friday/weekend! I had planned to wear A City on Fire for the CP but in the end I couldn’t bring myself to put it on, just wasn’t in the mood for that much smoke! I went for CDG Hinoki instead, since it’s still a ‘concept’ fragrance, though not particularly challenging IMO. Certainly I’ve never had negative comments while wearing it.
SOTD was L’Artisan Dzongkha, from the last Swapmeet. Just looked up the notes at Fragrantica, and was surprised to see spices listed first. I don’t get any spices or leather or litchi, just incense, some nice clean vetiver, and a hint of florals. When I first wore a sample, my father told me, “It smells like some kind of cleaning product.” It is not a perfume I would have appreciated before I fell down the rabbit hole, but it is lovely and peaceful and a nice change of pace. Maybe not something I need a full bottle of, but I’m already halfway through my decant.
