Wednesday scent of the day 10/16

Posted by Robin on 16 October 2019 183 Comments

Hump Day plus World Food Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I have Marni on one arm and Marni Rose on the other. I wish Marni had done just one more flanker, maybe Marni Spice.

Reminder: on 10/18, wear a fragrance by Maria Candida Gentile, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, Memo Paris or Miller et Bertaux if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter M.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows items from the Marni Pop Folk Market.

maybe my nose is not that refined, but I don’t smell a huge difference between the two.
I know its there but I can’t smell it after 10min! And that goes for Mon Guerlain too..
        What do you think?
Have you smelled the newest flanker?

I’ve only smelled the edp. I’ve not seen any of the flankers around here, and never the Mon Exclusif, but I heard they were almost identical.

Skin chemistry is so fascinating to me! Mon Guerlain lasts 10 minutes on you, and FOREVER on me….I wish I understood more of the reaction happening on skin.

(Note to self to research it when curiosity strikes at a less busy time…LOL)

    Ineke Gilded Lily today.

I am confined to bed with a phone, old laptop and mobile internet (poor connection), so I visit NST less frequently than normal. I also do not have access to at least a half of my perfumes. But I do have one or two Memo scents for tomorrow.

Yes, injured since late August. But there was an error in the diagnosis and different approaches to treament, so long story short I was ordered to stay in bed only several days ago. Now I should spend a month in bed. 🙁 I hope it helps. Thank you!

Yes, they first thought it was a bruised tailbone, but it turned out to be a fractured sacrum. To be fair, they are very similar injuries, and the approach is similar – rest and painkillers. Apparently I need more rest and minimum strain on my back. Thank you!

Made the trek from Montréal to San Diego yesterday in the plane, after two weeks of intense stress and no sleep I am sick with a cold and utterly exhausted. No perfume for now, nose is too tickly. My poor husband is driving the car, got stuck in horrible traffic through Toronto, then got a flat half way to Sarnia, Ontario. Had to unload the van (which is full) to get to the spare, then drive for 50 miles to find a fleabag motel to spend the night and change the tire in the morning. Now he’s back on the road, hope the rest of the trip goes better for him. Next year we are going to travel a lot lighter!

I feel your husband’s pain! We once set out for Yosemite from Oakland for a week-long holiday and the car stuffed to the gills, only to get a flat about 8 miles out. Pulled off the highway in some desolate spot and had to unload our bikes, then the bike rack, and then unpack the entire car to get to the spare tire…. and then drove the whole way to Yosemite at 50 mph. The next day I headed into the nearest decent-sized town to get the tire fixed, and wound up having to buy four new tires. I was at the shop for about four hours… ching ching ching!

    M. Micallef Note Vanilee today. Such a wonderful boozy caramelish vanilla.

Is there something in the airto make lousy drivers come out? Yesterday my bus was pulling out of the bus way, honked a car to move a little so it had room to move and then some idiot in a pickup truck decided to try and pass the bus to get into that space. To do so he had to be on the wrong side of the solid double yellow line and of course yelled at the bus driver when the pickup truck hit the bus. Of course, the bus had a bunch of witnesses… I didn’t stick around and simply called an Uber.

Today a car came close enough to my husband that he reached out and pulled a muscle in his shoulder and is currently waiting for x-rays though he doesn’t think it’s anything worse than the shoulder. How bad does your driving have to be to not notice a 6’3 blind guy with his white cane on a clear sunny day?

There is a lot of pressure and anger in the air right now- I think people are trying to make it to jobs, there are those who are working gig jobs who are in cars who have to make a deadlines to make and so forth. In PDX, we have had far too many of our citizen hit by cars.

It’s an epidemic. Here in Toronto people are hit on a daily basis… often the victims of a hit and run. I suspect a lot of the accidents are distracted drivers. Phones in particular. I was told there are an average of 80,000 Uber and Lyft vehicles on the roads now. Most cars are single occupants and there is construction everywhere. Drivers think they are the victims of this out of control traffic when in fact they are the cause.

I am sorry about your husband, Rena, I hope he feels better soon. Not sure if this will make you feel any better, but you can (partly) blame the cosmos for all the crappy drivers and other things going on right now. Apparently, Mercury is in retrograde until Nov. 20th and is also traversing thru the sign of Scorpio. (I don’t think anyone needs to be an astrology enthusiast like me to know what’s up with that sign). Like Ede97005 said, lots of pressure and moodiness and emotional stuff in the air right now. I myself experienced some of it at work yesterday (but manageable) The rest of it, well, you can just blame on stooopit impatient drivers.

Makes me wonder about what’s going to happen when winter comes and when there is about 4 inches of snow on the roads. Spending the day in Tigress Musk.

The Fall collection for Solstice Scents will go live at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT if you want to get in on the action. I have samples to share as well but I’ve burned through some of them. ? there’s several Fall only scents and I haven’t tried any of those and all will be available as 1 ml extrait or 2.5 ml sprays depending on the scent so I’m in quite the conundrum as to what to sample, buy, etc. and then I wonder how quickly stuff may sell out. ? quite the late night existential perfume crisis going on here…as is typical… ?

I left out the most important word…tomorrow. The collection goes live tomorrow at 4 pm PT. Ahahahahha I am sorry for the confusion but you can still get in on the action! They have been posting pics of scents coming back on FB and they have a master scent list which is overwhelming but denotes which all fall releases too. Lots to pour over and contemplate. ?

Robin, they did make a Marni Spice! I’ve not tried it, but I’ve seem bottles on eBay.

    https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Marni/Marni-Spice-30015.html

I’m in one of my many forgotten perfumes, Miller et Bertaux Close Your Eyes, And… It’s a sweet, woody thing that reminds me a bit of What We Do in Paris is Secret, though that one is sweeter.

Marni Spice is very good. It amps up the spice and the darker notes of the base but within the Andrier wheelhouse of wearable fragrances. Anyone could wear it to an office (unless it had a strict no fragrance policy) without fear of being overwhelming.

        Bathroom cabinet!

What put me in mind for it was that I am reading Scented, which is full of descriptions of indoor scent composites. This perfume feels like it could be one of Sian’s oily scent slicks that evoke her past. To me, Flos Mortis notes are vitamins, aspirin, talc, band-aids, used tissues, blue toilet bowl sanitizer cake, and the sticky residue from an anti-bacterial cleanser that is gumming the corners behind the toilet bowl.

Needless to say, I am not sure cooler weather is going to change this one!

I’m back from Phoenix. I like the desert. My conference was good and I enjoyed seeing many friends, plus we found some good places to eat and I visited two art museums.. The best part was the Desert Botanical Garden. Wow! The desert is full of colors and smells, flowers and birds and butterflies. I think I overdid it on walking the trails there though, as I’m now super exhausted. SOTD is MPG Secrete Datura. I still have two more to go for this week. I even have one of the older red bottles. In other news, no news yet from the Administrative Law Judge. The timeline to hear back is “in a few weeks” so since one week had passed, we’re that much closer to a decision!

This is open enrollment period for Medicare. Please don’t be seduced by the lower cost of Medicare Advantage (Part C). Unless you KNOW you will continue to be healthy and nothing catastrophic will happen to you, stick to the traditional plan Part A and Part B and get medigap. Part D for drugs comes with both plans. I will repeat this again since I am posting late today and there are many ads out there touting Medicare Advantage. The profit motive for Medicare Advantage is extremely high; don’t become a victim. Please note that I am not suggesting Part A and Part B will not deny coverage but Medicare Advantage, with its profit motive, has incentives to deny by default and hope there is no dispute or appeal.

Slipping in late just to say I’ve been keeping up pretty well with NST; silently rejoicing or sympathizing with folks as need be. Sending out good vibes to you all —

On impulse I put on a bit of TF Ombre Leather this afternoon. I’ve always liked this, and I enjoyed it today, but I still feel like it wanted too much of my attention. 🙂 These days I’m looking for “wall paper” fragrances (that I’m not anosmic to).

I know exactly what you mean! For me that’s often Guerlain Cologne 68.
