It's Almost-Friday, and the freebiemeet is still open. What fragrance are you wearing?
I thought about Galop d'Hermès for community project points, but I'm in Eau Claire des Merveilles instead.
Reminder: 10/4 is World Animal Day...do what you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermes Lao paperweight in solid ebonized mahogany wood is $580.
Wearing Lubin’s Idole edt – the *only* perfume Idole I recognize. Beautiful on this crisp Paris day!
Hello Paris! And you smell great
Oh….Paris
I love that paperweight. I’m wearing une Rose Poivrée, which has no discernible link to animals at all. Wonderful rose and great scent.
I like that elephant, too! I have some Dansk animal paperweights that are stylized to a similar degree, that I inherited from my mum when she did a major downsize. They make a cool collection.
The 1970s silver ones? Way cool!!
Yep, those are the ones – they are stylin!
I am a Rose Poivree fan. And I think I have one of the older bottles with lots of skank.
I’ve never tried the original version, but this one is very pretty as well.
Aphids?
Or bees! Mind you I’ve never smelled a real rose that had the same scent as Rose Poivrée
And I had to look up what aphids meant. Which means I’ve learnt a new word today, which is always a good thing.
Excellent answer.
Wearing CBIHP Gathering Apples. I needed something cheerful on this cold, rainy day.
Excellent choice, I am going apple picking this weekend.
Enjoy the apple picking! I am planning mine in two weeks.
I’m in Ummagumma today because my FB arrived yesterday – woohooo! Twisted Lily (no affiliation) was SUPER-quick on the delivery. Sprayed from the bottle, Ummagumma reminded me a lot of the opening blast of pineapple/mango in Or du Serail, but after half an hour there are significant differences – Ummagumma is drier and dustier (both good things), and not nearly as juicily lush as OdS (also not a bad thing, just different). I smell yummy. Happy Friday Eve!
Glad you’re enjoying your new bottle! I haven’t smelled it but it sounds lovely.
You smell great! I love both Ummagumma and Or du Sérail.
Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a wonderful day.
I’m in Coriolan today, perfect for the cool day I wish I was enjoying. Still hot here, alas. Coriolan has a bit of a hairgel vibe but not as bad as some of the 80s fougeres. Nice If you can easily find it.
Thanks for that hair gel reference- I’ve smelled a couple of things lately that weren’t quite men’s cologne or shaving cream, but 80s hair gel is apt, lol! Not necessarily a bad thing.
SOTD: Jacomo Silences.
Today’s tea: Cream Earl Grey, iced.
Hmmmmmmmmm. I’ve never tried any kind of Earl Grey over ice. I’ll keep that in mind for next summer.
Nursing a headache that started yesterday. I managed to keep it from getting worse until I woke up (way too early at 4:30) this morning and it has now developed into a pounding tension headache 🙁
In a.m. sprays of Angel EdT but about to shower it off. A bath sounds nice, though…
Had planned to wear Galop once the weather cools off this week but hadn’t thought of the tie-in. Thanks, Robin. Also love the elephant.
Oh yuck about the headache, I hope it passes quickly.
4:30 is bad. 4:30 with a pounding headache is just all kinds of wrong.
I hope it goes away, pronto.
Ugh. I hope it subsides. I think a bath is a great idea!
Galop Gallop
The bottle = stirrup
I love that bottle and the juice too, it was a very clever marketing decision.
Sorry about your headache. I hope you can get rid of it soon.
I hope you feel better soon!
Sorry about your headache, hope it goes soon.
Feel better soon!
Ugh. Go away headache.
I realized later that Merveilles has an animal connection too, since it is meant to smell like ambergris & salty seawater without disturbing any whales.
And I realized that any version of Caleche would work, too ☺ (although I was thinking in terms of the horse connection, not the leather.)
Thanks for the kind thoughts, all. The shower didn’t help but I decided to start cooking dinner, and somehow that has… Plus pasta alla Norma as a reward ?
Ouch, that happened to me last Sunday, had to get up and take 800mg ibuprofen with breakfast. Hope it’s gone by now!
Bletch on the early morning headache.
Today I am in Yatagan because it is a beast.
and smells great too!
Nice.
I’m waiting to see my hip surgeon for my six-months checkup. Hope all is well! Excited because later I’m meeting up with Nancy from this site for lunch and some fun sniffing at the Galleria!
I just put on a little bit of Orlov Star of the Season, because I wanted to leave lots of bare skin space for trying things!
How fun! And I hope your appointment goes well!
What a great day planned at the Galleria. Hope you both have a great time lunching and shopping. Best wishes for your appointment.
We did have fun! In fact it’s impressive that you do get some nice attention (and extra little gifts and samples) when there are two of you shopping who obviously know your stuff. The SA who helped us at Neiman-Marcus with Memo walked over with us to MFK and then to Malle where we tried the new Malle Rose et Cuir and the Malle rep invited us to a special party on October 17, so it was great fun!
And she even introduce us to him as “perfume connoisseurs”!!!
How fun! I just went this Sunday and had a blast. I hope your hip is doing well!
Oh gosh, we want you to come join us next time! We had a blast!! Please write me at cfreeland with quadruple nines in the yahoooooooo realm. And thanks, my doctor’s report was good!!
I hope you get a great report from your surgeon to match what sounds like a wonderful day!
Good luck with your appointment. You have been so brave with all the surgeries etc. Enjoy your meet-up.
Thanks, Kanuka! I had a BIG splurge that I will report on tomorrow–woo hoo!
Hope you had good news and a fun afternoon!
Indeed we did! Time flew by very quickly!
I hope that you had good news from the doctor today! Your perfumed adventures at The Galleria sound like a blast.
I’m wearing Besame Mucho from my Art Meets Art discovery set. So far I’m getting lots of vetiver, which I love.
Sampling Eric Buterbaugh Los Angeles
Maiden Orange Blossom Eau de Parfum
Oh my..
If I wanted a headache I would just take away one of my kids toys
Going to scrub off and will report back on a new SOTD
Oh, no! That bad?
Ouch ?
I’m sorry it was such a scrubber, but the line about taking away one of your kids toys was hilarious!??
Agreed. 🙂 Guess a lot of the folks here can identify with that image — and know what the resulting sounds are like! LOL.
So sorry for the bad experience
But I laughed out loud at the kids toy-remark….
(I just spent a weekend with my small nephews and niece (aged 1,5 – 6 y)….oh boy, all that noise hahhahhaa, i dont have kids myself so I am not used to long exposure to those high pitched screams and shouts)
It’s not u pntil you are an adult that you realize why your parents got mad when you and siblings fought. They didn’t care if we killed each other….just do it quietly.
? This is so true!
Hahaha ?
Yup,
Also: “I dont care what you do but just do it outside where I cannot hear you”
(Okay, i know, you can only say that if your children are older ?
HA!!!
Very VERY true!
SOTD after washing my wrist and the wrist of my long sleeve shirt is Shalimar body powder.
Oh No! Yikes!
Yeeeeek! Sorry to hear that. I hope that your headache is gone by now.
I had planned to wear another Zoologist today but I received my freebie meet package from pixel this morning and am wearing En Voyage A Study in Water instead. This has been on my wishlist (that’s just in my head and rattling around) for ages and it’s just right for this cool but muggy gray day. Thanks pixel 🙂
It went from wet and cool to hot and muggy here. Blech.
Le Labo Rose 31. So much more vetiver than rose to me.
me too…I keep trying, wishing for more rose.
Mona do Orio Carnation for me today. Complex and cosy at the same time.
I love everything I’ve smelled from
Mona di Orio.
They do a good job.
I wear it to bed sometimes and it makes my pj’s smell divine.
What an indulgence to wear such a great scent to bed 😉
I’m glad you like it. When I started being interested in perfumes, I got three of her perfumes at a really good price and loved them instantly. At that time people weren’t very complimentary about her creations, so I thought I must just be inexperienced with unsophisticated tastes. Since then, I’ve fallen out of love with some of the things I bought at first, but not these three.
Cool and rainy called out lavender to me so I went with AA Lavande Velours- lavender, violets, and iris. Smells very purple. I think this is such a great scent and wish they’d being it back!
Lovely
I love that one–it felt like the most Guerlain of the first batch of AAs. You smell great.
I’m not sure I’ve heard of that AA before.
Essential Parfums NIce Bergamote
You smell great! I bought that travel spray last month but haven’t used it yet.
Inspired by lilyjo’s confession to Donatella yesterday, I’m wearing TM Miroir de Majestes from a sample. This smells opulent and expensive.
Scampering off to look it up…
I haven’t smelled that one, it’s been long gone around here, but des Joyaux is also very opulent!
Smelling really great in Civet today!
My St. Clair Eve and Pandora samples arrived yesterday so I tried them last night. I like them both very much. I can tell they are composed of mostly natural materials, so they smell rich. However, due to the naturals used, the longevity doesn’t seem great. I will have to give them each full day wearings to see how long they last. And both have apple notes, so they’ll fit in next week’s CP!
If i were at home i would wear my sample tomorrow…
Scent twins!
Good idea! Maybe I’ll get around to trying my samples next week…
Lots of folks are part of the Zoo(ologist) crew this week!
Testing the La Maison de Vanille Mexican offering today. Yes, I am breaking a rule of don’t test a new perfume at work today.
Curious to hear your thoughts. I am *thisclose* to springing for a bottle of BFMV, and possibly splitting it. But any kind of Mexican Vanilla piques my interest.
Vanilla seems to be a fairly safe “test new perfume at work” option, of all of the categories you could be testing!
Our weather has finally cooled off enough to wear heavier scents. I went with Beloved today for the animalics. Not sure if is the best way to celebrate World Animal Day once I thought about it.
🙂 yes, a vegan perfume would be more in order.
SOTD = Zoologist T-Rex + Le Labo Vanille 44
4 sprays each – wear it like you mean it!
3 more hajusuuri freebies left for NST regulars – go check out the post at the bottom of the October 1st SOTD post:
https://nstperfume.com/2019/10/01/tuesday-scent-of-the-day-10-1/
In other news…why would anyone use a communal curling iron? There was a set up in the outer room of the Ladies Room, complete with a hair dryer and disposable combs. We have an in-sink as well as floating hand soap. The floating one has a nice scent – Lush Palm by Antica Farmacista. I hear “stuff” in the new location that will have to stay in the room but it had given me a newfound respect for the work they do (I am the only one in my group / function co-located there). Ah, and whereas I’m able to bad-mouth someone when I was at my previous location (and no one knows who they are), here, the people are familiar with them so I have to speak a little softer ?.
Re: colander. I found the design I like at Bed Bath & Beyond (small vertical slats instead of holes) BUT it’s made of plastic so it’s a no go. Still searching for the “perfect” one!
1) 4 sprays of T-Rex is very brave ?
2) Were I to use a curling iron I probably would. The heat is so high that it kills anything. Plus, a curling/flat iron used at a salon is essentially a communal iron…
I’m squeamish about some things, but not this one.
3) Were you looking for metal? We have a great metal bowl colander- not sure where it’s from. The hubs might know.
https://www.countrydoor.com/p/6-pc–stainless-steel-mixing-bowl-colander-set-642285.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuNbsBRC-ARIsAAzITuey0-EZv7Mi7zmziCzhyJizRMuSC9Hr-0GJ9wDvd4YMpzonI6wkmHcaAriaEALw_wcB&cm_mmc=google-_-pla_campaign_mobile-_-home-and-garden-_-642285&code=home-and-garden&link=642285&source=c001&medium=inhaus
It’s just like this one, though probably not from there.
I’ve seen that type of colander at TJ Maxx. It looks a good one.
I went to Marshall’s and saw the same stainless steel colander.
You had to pick my favorite color ?❣️. I saw a no color version at BB&B. While I like the quality of the construction, I know the holes will attract some pasta. And yes, I am looking for stainless steel.
I can’t believe you are wearing four sprays of T-Rex, one spray from my decant was enough to kill me.
And I smelled wonderful all day — the Vanille 44 tamed it slightly!
that was my thought!
Also, I learned that with some perfumes that overwhelm with 1 spray (e.g. Chergui and it smelled like bug spray), spraying more actually gives it another dimension ( not as airy and actually more complete).
Need to sniff T-Rex and see what all the furor is about. ?
Yesssssss, got a new job! Woohooo, so happy. 🙂 ?
My sotd was Hinoki.
I also wore that to my first job interview.
and my husband also managed to land a job wearing that fragrance a year ago. (He advised me to wear it, for it is friendly and calming but interesting/promising as well)
Its now officially our ‘dress for success scent’ ?
Btw Robin, the paper weight is gorgeous!
I do not comment often on it, but I so appreciate and admire the effort you put into finding an appropriate cute and/or beautiful pic! ?
Why thank you. It is actually a peaceful thing to do late in the evening when my brain is too dead for more serious activity.
Congratulations on the new job!
So happy for your good news!!! Congratulations and best wishes as you start a new journey. And, you smell great.
Congrats, that’s great news! I think we need a bottle of Hinoki in our house, lol.
?
Congrats on your new job! I hope it is the perfect fit for you!
Congratulations, Jiji!
Congratulations, you must be so relieved! I need to try Hinoki, I’ve only ever tried Laurel from the same line, which is great as well.
Great news, Jiji! Congratulations! I am going to need now a big gallon of Hinoki with me all the time!
Congrats on the job!
Bravo, Jiji!
Great news, well done!
Yes! Congratulations!
Love hearing such good news! Must seek out that scent.
Congratulations!
YAY!!!
Congrats
Fantastic, and go Hinoki!!
Probably if you had the Monocle quartet you’d be covered for all life situations. (In case you were wondering what to do with your first paycheck at new job.)
Congrats on the new job!
Yay!!! Big congratulations. Hinoki is a great scent.
Congratulations Jiji!
Congratulations! 🙂
Many congratulations!
Excellent news about the new job Jiji! Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Puttering around the house today, but I have book club tonight, YEAH!! Our weather is now sharply cooler, so I plan to haul out an appropriate scent…maybe more Chergui or LADDM.
Heading to Arizona in a few weeks to visit Sedona and also get my first view of the Grand Canyon. Any Sedona/Phoenix recommendations?
Sedona is gorgeous! Gosh I love the desert. Hope you have a great time.
I make a point to visit the local botanical garden wherever I travel, and the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix is one of my very favorites.
Oh and the Heard Museum is well worth a visit too, if art museums are your thing.
They are, and so are botanical gardens. Will start my list…
Also go to the Mission church in downtown Scottsdale and have a fabulous meal. The chips and guacamole (and margaritas) alone are worth it. The courtyard is charming too.
Excellent recommendation on the Heard Museum.
Go to Scottsdale and hang out there is beautiful spectacular ART galleries there, especially the one with the life-sized bronze statue at the door (memory escapes me)AND Native American Jewelry . Hike Camelback Mountain.
Sedona is breathtaking.
Got time to go to Flagstaff?
I’m going next week and will report back on any finds. Mostly conferencing but have some good dinner plans and will let you know my recommendations. The Heard Museum is actually going to be part of our conference, and I too already have plans to visit the desert botanical gardens. I won’t have a car, so downtown is mainly going to be what I’ll explore.
Get up early and go out into the desert and watch the sun rise. It is worth it.
You can always do Rte 66:). Oatman is a ghost town with wild burros I guess. Also, there is Laughlin, NV if you want to visit a casino or two and/or take a little boat ride of the Colorado River.
I like Robin’s idea about watching the sun rise.
Wearing Bengale Rouge.
I thought I didn’t need this after testing one evening and thinking it was too similar to Shalimar or Musc Ravageur, but I certainly am enjoying it today! It’s making this rainy day both cozy and glamorous.
if it similar to shalimar I need to try it…
That comparison comes from the opening especially. On me, Bengale Rouge is pleasantly smokey early on. Not nearly as citrusy as Shalimar, which I once described as “a lemon riding a vanilla-soaked saddle”. I still don’t know if I need it, but BR is beautiful!
Smoky? I might need to look into this…
Sel de Vetiver, because it was there and because, um…. snails… hate… salt?
🙂 🙂
Some of our paddocks have salt licks for the cows…if that helps?
That’s it! I was thinking god Kanuka’s cows.
*of
https://teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/4341/cattle-licking-a-salt-block
New converts to sel de vetiver! In solid form
LOL
Anticipating the CP in Weil Antilope, like Petunia’s choice this is unfortunately really animalic but whispers… it smells so plush.
Perfect!
We can be un-PC together. ??
Rahat Loukoum!
Lovely perfume. Will join you post dog walk.
Yay for a twin!
A big favourite, you smell great.
Thank you!
Greeting from le toilet, the only place at work that puts a modicum of space between me and other annoying staff.
I’m in Ummagumma and it’s the only thing that I’m enjoying about today?
Thanks for everyone’s support of my dental issue the other day! Sadly, I’m lined up with an oral surgeon on the 10th. But, it could have been much worse, since the problem is easily addressed and fixed with a little bit of slicing and dicing! Joy!
Slicing and dicing ?
So, no drilling, right? I cant stand the sound of those dental drills…. ??
I hope it will not be too bad or too expensive.
Oh Deva, sorry about the tooth!.
I was in the restroom this morning, the only one in there. Some person came in and immediately tried to open my stall! There were 3 wide open ones for them to use, but nope, they wanted mine. People are nuts …
You smell great. 🙂
Hi Ummagumma twin! I do the same thing (using the ladies’ room as a getaway spot) – thank goodness for tall doors! Glad I’m not a guy. 🙂
Sorry about the dental work, though sounds like you’re taking it in stride.
I used to have to use the restroom a lot when I worked on hospital units, lol! Totally get that.
Oh no!
Awwwwww! Boo on the cutting, slicing and dicing! The mere thought of that creeps me out! ? Best of luck with it all.
Good Heavens! It is hot in my part of Virginia today. Wearing the very pretty Zoologist Civet, which is a very well mannered mink indeed.
Memoire d une Odeur today, which is nice, but longevity is mehh…now wearing a spritz of Reminiscence Vanille for sitting in front of our fireplace in our holiday home.
Today we visited Guedelon, an experimental archeology site, where they build a medieval castle with medieval means. Lots of artisan workshops to watch. The whole thing is situated in a beautiful forest. Totally worth a visit!
https://www.guedelon.fr/en/introduction_75.html
What an incredible place. Just needs a perfume maker
Guedelon looks mighty interesting!
And fireplace…so cosy. Your holiday sounds great. ?
I’ve been near Guédelon several times but have never visited the project. I do remember watching a documentary on French television about it. It seemed very interesting.
I think I saw a news story on the BBC about Guedelon a while back. I found it fascinating.
Smoked Ambergris as it is still very chilly here. I wonder if ambergris has plastic in it now? It seems likely that it would.
https://www.ambergrisnz.co.nz/how-ambergris-formed
Seems it does contain plastic…a nice bit of plastic twine in the photo.
So disheartening, isn’t it?
Thanks for this- very interesting.
Thanks Kanuka. Very interesting and informative.
Hey Kanuka, I saw your book mentioned on a fragrance YouTube channel the other day! It made me feel famous by association, lol! Go you!?
Do you recall which channel?
Fragrance bros. The last video he did called “Fragrance news”
Thank you!
Kelly Calèche extrait because it was in my confession. Bonus in that it fits with the CP, given the horse reference.
The KC extra is so good.
That should have said Extrait.
Friday here, thank goodness, it’s been a busy week. The sun is shining after a few days of winter relapse. Something along classic lines seems appealing, so I’m going with Vol de Nuit.
You smell absolutely divine – love VdN!
A last gasp of hot and humid here today (88 degrees, what’s with that?) and I’m wearing Goutal Bois d’Hadrien. Sort of a evergreen woody, a bit of citrus up front but otherwise not super remarkable. I liked it when I tested it in Paris, but had I given it a full day test, I’m thinking I would have picked something else. Yay for small bottles, though.
Concur on the small bottles and the old Goutals were a nice size.
8C here today when I took the dog out, brrr. Wearing LADDM and feeling cozy inside now.
Scent twins!! Started at 3am in Maroc Pour Elle. Home now and heading to bed with two sprays of LDDM. Gosh, I love this one.
I tried to sleep in LDDM once. It really didn’t work lol. Way too much olfactive activity for a good rest 😉
LAdDM is gorgeous! It’s not quite cool enough for me to pull my sample out, though.
Well in honor of your adorable picture (which should be a pin!) I am wearing Zoologist Elephant. I am gifting it to my trainer but she won’t mind if I steal one teensy little spray, right?
Now I must go back and find all my twins for the day!
House twin!
I wish I could smell your perfume from here.
Do you know what you are wearing tomorrow?
I am opening my new travel sized Civet from the last split meet just for this special CP!
I think I’m going with Chameleon tomorrow! I’m going to the beach and Chameleon fits a tropical vibe!
ok so I was teasing…. didn’t do it. Went with HYDE instead. :0)
I like Elephant a lot. I didn’t at first but kept sort of trying it and each time it really grew on me. I need to order some, maybe one of their really nice travel spray bottles.
That would be a rather nice pin! I’ve seen some totem animals carved from stone in a similar style. They were little paperweights about the size of a 50 cent piece.
It’s a cool grey and rainy day for me. Surprisingly I don’t mind it. Now, if it were weeks on end of this stuff, that would be an entirely different matter. ☔?
SOTD = Zoologist Rhinoceros EdP, from the sample stash and Calypso. It’s a BEEEG leather scent loaded with birch tar and smoke for me. But it also is a skin scent after a couple of hours. Smells good!
House twins!
Hiya twin!
I may have a sample of Rhino! Birch tar w00t!
I thought of you when I sprayed my sample this morning.
Awww. ❤️
Good to know, will fish for my dabber!!! I think you smell powerful and dangerous!
It smells like I am wrapped up in my favorite black leather jacket, all cozy and warm.
That sounds magical!
Magical with a tiny bit of Joan Jett attitude! ?
????
One spritz of Bat for me today. I like this one so much but I’m always a little nervous wearing it out in public haha.
Has the new version of Bat shown up yet? Or is it still in the works?
Twins with you! I spilled over 1/2 the sample on me.
Good evening! 🙂 Scent of the day was several sprays of Eau de Pamplemousse. I washed some of it off before Mom got in the car with me. She started the car, and then said, “Nope.” (Or words to that effect.) I went off to the grocery store myself, but I did pick up groceries for the whole family, and a nice rotisserie chicken for dinner. 🙂
It’s been fairly quiet here, but our allergies (the whole family has assorted allergies) have been very bad. So far (knock on wood), mine seem to be just allergies and not sinus stuff or a respiratory infection, since the headaches respond to Advil. Oh, well. Guess I’m doing better than many folks.
Were you on the warm side or the cold side of the weather front today?
Scent of the evening: Nobile 1942 Le Petit Chocolatier # 1: Confiture. Of course I love the sweet and fruity one.
Thanks to the generous folks who participated in the freebiemeet, I have many, many samples to try. 🙂 I will most likely go to a friend’s house to try them. 🙂
Late again, another hectic day. My daughter got in trouble at school today, so I cancelled our outing tonight. She’s been doing really well this year, otherwise. Yesterday I had to order my son’s cap and gown for high school graduation next spring. At the last minute he asked if he could get a ring too. This kid rarely asks for anything. I was so shocked to see the prices! I couldn’t get him any that had “real” gold or even the silver and it was still outrageous to me. I hope it looks decent irl. We won’t even see it until January, I think. Sotd is Shalimar Souffle.
Gosh, I hope your daughter is OK. That sounds upsetting.
She’s ok. She just had a behavior setback. Her new teacher this year has helped her to make tremendous progress in controlling meltdowns, but today just wasn’t a good day. So we are taking it easy tonight, early to bed so tomorrow can start off right.
Wonderful news about your son ordering his cap and gown! I remember that class ring prices were crazy for me ages ago, both for high school and college. Got one, but skipped the other.
I didn’t get a ring, I had no idea they were so much money, but honestly, I never thought about it. I didn’t expect him to want one.
I hope your daughter is OK. Maybe she needs a spritz of whatever perfume is the Not That perfume ?. Congrats on the cap and gown for your son! I recall the rings being expensive and that was a very long time ago!
It was around 60 F, but I personally felt extremely overheated and broke out into a sweat. I had put on jeans, but changed to shorts. So there I was at the grocery store wearing a T-shirt and shorts. lol. I’m sure I didn’t look eccentric at all…
I cooled down a while later. I still feel like wearing refreshing citrus fragrances, but maybe I’ll go with a nice cool bath. 🙂
Oops, that answer was to Jalapeno’s question above.
So you were on the cold side, too. No way could I have worn shorts today!
Oops, that answer was to Jalapeno’s question above.
