The damage so far: fourth quarter 2018 buying poll

Posted by Robin on 3 January 2019 283 Comments

Donatella Versace and her perfume cabinets

Adiós, 2018, don't let the door hit you on the way out! Let's start off 2019 with a clean slate and a clean conscience — Donatella Versace, Our Lady of Scented Excess,1 wants to know what you bought in the 4th quarter (October, November and December) of 2018.

My purchases...

...I spent $185 on a 30 ml bottle of Aftelier Candide. (I also bought a replacement bottle of Ancient Resins, but Donatella does not care about that.) Then I bought a 30 ml bottle of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Banane at 20% off, $30. Added to the $297 I spent in the first and second quarters (I sat out the third), that brings my total for the year to $512.

As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don't include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles). Samples don't generally count at all, even though some of us spend considerable sums obtaining them.

1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.

I have a lot to confess. After buying zero bottles the first 2 quarters of 2018, I went a little crazy in the 3rd quarter, and even crazier in the 4th. The list:

PPC Divine 5 mL EdP $45
PPC Provanilla 5 mL EdP $0*
April Aromatics Liquid Dreams 50 mL EdP $175
DSH Three Kings 1 dram EdP $27
DSH Onycha 1 dram EdP $35
DSH Kohl Gris 1 dram EdP $26
DSH Special Formula X-treme 3 mL VdP $18
EdLO And the World is Yours 10 mL EdP $30
    Aftelier Alchemy 2 x 5 mL Oil $150
American Perfumers Desert Rose 30 mL Extrait $150

    Total $656

*PPC was having a Buy2, Get 1 Free offer. All but two of these (Liquid Dreams and Special Formula X-treme) were blind buys, which is quite unusual for me. Fortunately, the two most expensive were runaway successes. I love Alchemy, so much in fact that I bought a second bottle. Desert Rose really blew me away. So far it is the best blind buy I have ever made, with Alchemy right behind.

I must have had a bout of temporary amnesia! I completely forgot about several other purchases:

Dior Dune 5 mL EdT $15
Dior Dolce Vita 5 mL EdT $8
Fendi Theorema 30 mL EdP (partial from eBay) $45

      Corrected Total: $724

Oh, you bought the Vanille Banane! I hope you get a lot of pleasure from it.

I bought three solids at Lush in October, even though you’d think I’d know better — earlier last year I bought two (Cardamom Coffee and I’m Home) which it turned out I didn’t enjoy much at all once I could smell them on their own, away from the olfactory din of the Lush store: I really need to swap them away. But I did better this time: Ectoplasm, Vanillary, and What Would Love Do? solids, all of which are simple and charming. (Also a bottle of Rose Jam shower gel, which I suppose doesn’t count, though that stuff is POTENT, more perfume than soap, and you need only a tiny bit for so.much.lather.)

Total for the three, maybe $40 CAD. And that’s my whole quarter. Total for the year, not a lot, certainly under $100. I’m exploring things I own already rather than buying a lot of new stuff.

Are you able to compare the I’m Home solid to the spray? I loved the spray (I smelled it away from the store even!), and am curious if I would enjoy the solid.

I lingered over the liquid CC the last time I was in the store, and was glad you’d mentioned here before that you didn’t think the solid had enough projection and/or strength or I might have bought it. I like the liquid but thought it was too spendy.

I bought the bottle of Cardamom Coffee, it is spendy, but I am a sucker for a good Oriental and that’s what this fragrance is all about for me once the cardamom and coffee are done. I also bought the Twilight body spray because I cannot get enough of Lavender and Tonka! But not to worry, it was a different quarter!

Oh my god, i went a little crazy, but i fell for perfumes just in April 2018, so i had a lot to catch up….. Before i mostly had two or three scents to alternate.
Then i discovered the Parfumo.de community and fell really hard, after i had just wanted to find a new signature scent… Then i discovered decants and shortly after hosted my first perfume split.

    So the damage done is:
AG Encens Flamboyant nearly FB vom *bay
    Heeley Sel Marin 40ml
    Assam of India 50ml
    Eau de Merveilles Bleu 15ml
Avon Nearness nearly FB vom *bay, but just 10€, so practically free???
Theo Fennel, 1 FB (and a BUB, it was just 20€ each and discontinued…)
OJ Woman 40m from a split
OJ Orris Noir, just 15ml from a split
    L´Air de Rien, 40ml from a split
Bottega Veneta 30ml FB, just reduced the price to 30€..
SJP Stash, blind buy, just 20€ for 50ml

    and some decants…
Aqua e Sale, Wazamba, Habit Rouge, Bois Noir Piguet, Ambre Russe, Saab Ambrée, Meharées, Salome, 50ml d´Ambiguité, SL Bois Vanille
Swapped some other decants, so those do NOT count!

I want to try to be a little more behaved in the next quarter, but Bulgari Black and Felanilla are calling my name.

This quarter I spent a total of $411 in totally backwards ways, by which I mean the following 6 full bottles came to $10:
    Organza
    Floris Malmaison
    Madame Rochas
    Zen
    Yardley Lavender
    Crabtree and Evelyn Veranda
and the following 5 decants/minis came to $159
    Eau Egyptienne
    PPC Sweet Jasmine Brown
    PPC Hindu Honeysuckle
    Bal a Versailles
    Slumberhouse Ore
and then I spent $89(!) on a mere 5 ml of Slumberhouse Brosse
and the rest was samples, lots of DSH and PPC and Olympic Orchards.

I have no regrets but it all seems a bit upside down!

1.)Apres L’Ondee Guerlain 100ml edt.Regret buying it unsniffed,it’s even worse than 28 La Pausa in the longevity/sillage department!(Spectacularly beautiful for like 10 minutes then poof!Gone…)
2.)Maison Francis Kurkdjian disvovery set for her, plus beautiful golden globetrotter atomizer.Best buy of 2018
3.)I did get the Skins Cosmetics Holiday box which contains three perfumes, all 10ml or less, including the cute Portrait of a Lady 7 ml mini I mentioned.
    THAT was it!
    Not bad for 2018.

ALO owns my heart but I know what you mean. It has a funny way of hanging on though, and reappearing when I least expect it. Sometimes it will be undetectable all day, then give me ghostlike whiffs when I go to bed. An elusive muse.

Very little for me: a bottle of SL Sa Majesté la Rose from fragrancenet (maybe $60?) and a set of two NVC Trayee travel sprays from that 50 % off sale on Olfactif ($75 I think). Too lazy to look up the actual prices. Anyway, that brings my total to < $150 for sure, so I’ve spent well under a tenth of my previous quarter expenditures in 2018. I started a real no-buy (for real!) partway through this quarter, and expect it to last through at least the first quarter of 2019.

Looking forward to your lists :)

I was bad in the 4th quarter havinbg spent more than I should have – roughly €175/$200 while my quarterly limit is €100. But my figures in in the previous three quarters were good, so it was an acceptable year in terms of perfume expenses.

Besides, dear Donatella, I only bought decants (yeah, I keep using this excuse). And about half of my purchases were discontinued perfumes, so maybe it was my last chance to buy them (or at least to buy them at a reasonable price).

October was the worst month – 10 scents. I was rather restrained in November and December (3 and 3).

The most expensive decants were Songe d’un Bois d’Ete and Coromandel. The cheapest were Pour Un Homme de Caron and La Haie Fleurie.

    And, finally, my list:

    Guerlain Insolence EDP 10 ml
    Guerlain Songe d’un Bois d’Ete 7 ml
    Guerlain Liu 6 ml
Guerlain Shalimar PI L’Eau 10 ml

    Chanel Coromandel EDT 10 ml
    Chanel Misia EDT 10 ml
Chanel No 22 EDT 8 ml

Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu 10 ml
Caron Pour Un Homme 10 ml
    Fendi Theorema 10 ml
    John Galliano 10 ml
L’Artisan La Haie Fleurie 7 ml
    Memo Tiger’s Nest 7 ml
    Penhaligon’s Malabah 8 ml
    Saint-Laurent Opium 10 ml
Tom Ford Shanghai Lily 7 ml

This was my worst quarter for buying since 2014, when I got into perfume. (And it’s no surprise that I’m now on a year-long no buy!)

    Here goes:
    L’Artisan 60 Mirablilis (2 x 10 ml decants)
    L’Eau No. 5 (30 ml)
    Sideris (15 ml)
Wood Sage and Sea Salt (30 ml, replacement bottle)
Eau des Merveilles (50 ml, replacement bottle for almost empty 15 ml travel spray)
    Odeur 53 (200 ml)
    Brooklyn (30 ml)
    Ouai Mercer Street (50 ml)
    A. N. Other FL/18 (50 ml)
    Cafe Tuberosa (10 ml)

I don’t regret buying any of them, but I certainly don’t need to bring any new friends home for them to play with.

What I like about Cap Neroli (apart from the scent) is that a 30ml bottle with a discount is really not a bad price at all…

    I got…some scents
    D&G Dolce garden, 30 ml
Profumum Roma Acqua di sale 10 ml
I profumi di Firenze Vaniglia et fici 50 ml (love this!)
    Hermes Twilly 30 ml
Paco Rabanne Olympéa intense 30 ml
4160 Tuesdays Tyger Tyger 30 ml
Tom Ford Lost cherry (wonderful!!!) but it was mostly a gift from my husband so almost doesn’t count.

And a bunch of samples from
Hiram Green and Lulua.pl – mostly Kerosene and imaginary authors.

I spent more on samples this last quarter than I have in a couple of years. And I liked quite a few of them (Dusita Issara and Erawan, MdO Santal Nabatea, BF Fontevraud x2, Bogue MEM to name a few of my winners) which was unusual and why I stopped buying samples to begin with.
It lead to 1 bottle, bought (supplemented with a holiday gift card and a little holiday gift cash) just under the wire (and don’t have yet):
    1) BF Vetiverissimo
which will be the only vetiver in my collection. ?
    2) I also blind-bought ALoF And the World… and swapped it away rather quickly.
    3) And a 5 ml decant of Papillon Anubis after unearthing the few-years-old remnants of a sample and loving it.

I have finally done it: I have achieved PEAK DONATELLA! I know she smiles on me with delight. Truly I have followed her path this past quarter. I must confess that I did hunt down bargains relentlessly, something she no doubt finds perplexing (perhaps even distasteful) but we mere mortals have our weaknesses. Of course all purchases were justified — Donatella frowns in puzzlement, what does that mean? – but for you, gentle readers, I will explain.

First there are the upgrades, where I traded up from decant or mini to FB. Surely these are BUBs (*) and thus don’t really count, right? (* yeah this was before my epiphany that I don’t need BUBs…)
    1. Zoologist Macaque
    2. Zoologist Elephant
    3. Guerlain Ambre Eternel
    4. Kilian Love and Tears
    5. Ineke Idyllwild
    6. Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest
    7. Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino
    8. Teo Cabanel Barkhane
    9. Richard Luscher Britos Causse Mejean
    10. Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures
    11. Guerlain Songe d’Un Bois d’Ete
    12. L’Artisan Parfumeur Explosions Rappelle-Toi

Then there are classics, which are always justified:
    13. Chanel No 5 L’eau (red bottle!!!)
    14. Guerlain Jicky EdT
    15. Guerlain Vol de Nuit EdT
    16. Guerlain Vol de Nuit Parfum

Then there are things that have been on my list forever, so when I found bargains, it would have been irresponsible not to buy:
    17. L’Artisan Parfumeur Arcana Rosa
    18. Tom Ford Ombre Leather
    19. Guerlain Santal Royal
    20. Guerlain Oud Essentiel
    21. Demeter Gingerale
    22. Viktoria Minya Eau de Hongrie
    23. Jo Malone Incense & Cedrat
    24. Atelier Cologne Gold Leather
    25. Pierre Guillaume Monsieur
    26. Pierre Guillaume Liqueur Charnel
    27. Penhaligon’s As Sawira
    28. The Different Company Santo Incensio (aka Le 15)
    29. Comme Des Garcons Wisteria Hysteria

(goodness this list is getting long…)

Can’t forget my charitable good works (purchases direct from the perfumers):
    30. Providence Perfume Co Lemon Liada
    31. Providence Perfume Co Hindu Honeysuckle (mini)
    32. Providence Perfume Co Moss Gown (mini)
    33. House of Matriarch Sacre Noir (mini)
    34. Smell Bent Smoked Ambergris

Minis which don’t count by virtue of their tender size (I am sure Donatella would not notice minis):
    35. Hermes Agar Ebene
    36. 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods
    37. 7 Virtues Orange Blossom
    38. A Lab On Fire And the World Is Yours
    39. Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
    40. Frederic Malle Monsieur

Did a bit of pre-buying for summer:
    41. Mugler Cologne Fly Away
    42. Mugler Cologne Love You All
    43. Fragonard Verveine
    44. Hermes Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver
    45. Kilian Moonlight In Heaven

(my fingers are tired of typing…)

So now we are down to the actual purchases.
    46. Masque Milano Hemingway
    47. Teresa Helbig Old Money
    48. Nasomatto Absinth
    49. Molton Brown Muddled Plum
    50. Profumum Roma Olibanum

Oh, nearly forgot, I had a birthday this quarter, plus Christmas, so let’s cross off 2 for gifts-to-self. AND I sold 5 FBs and 4 minis. So… really nothing, overall. Surprising how much space nothing takes up on the counter, though.

All my purchases this quarter occurred in the splitmeet.

I hosted a split of Mohur – sold 40 ml leaving me 20 ml. I’m hoping Mohur will project and last longer in warm weather.

Acquired from other hosters travel sprays of Bombay Bling (blind buy, hoping I will like more in summer) and Osmanthe Yunnan.

    That’s all – I did better then I thought!

I thought that I was being restrained this quarter but I spent more than I thought. I bought 3 travel sprays and 1 large decant a 2 FBs.

    Iris 39 travel spray
    Eau de Magnolia travel spray
    Jasmines Marzipane travel spray
Santal Nabataea 10 ml decant (split)
Victoria’s Secret original scent. Vintage from EB, FB (blast from the past)
    Felanilla, FB
I spent about $399 not including a few sample orders or gifts.
I also bought one other FB on NYE but it shipped out today, so it doesn’t count. ?
And hajusuuri, I have no recollection of Elisa and I splitting Satori. Nope no memory of that at all! ?

Sorry Elisa! I read your comment wrong… I thought you said you would make me count it. ?
I bought Fleur de Peau by Diptyque. Hajusuuri gave me a very generous sample and I was surprised at how much I like it. Flower skin is really the perfect description for it. So pretty, creamy, warm, soft and enveloping. It’s a skin scent with low projection. Sort in the style of Le Cri de la Lumiere but it’s a much warmer scent. Hajusuuri probably missed my comment giving her props and an enabler pin for her tiara while she was away.

My least speedy quarter in 2018 – I bought 4 FB but 3 were gifts and don’t count. The only bottle for myself was Lancome Climat, a blind buy after having read it was similar to Amouage Dia, which is the one I am really after. It’s pretty nice, but I think I liked Dia better and will keep my eyes peeled for a deal/decant/small size (do they even come in such sizes?). Oh, and I also foolishly bought a sample of Cap Neroli (I own a bottle) when I meant to buy a sample of Neroli Intense…that’s what happens when Black Friday is almost over and you’re frantically trying to place an order!
Sniff Goals in 2019: trying Neroli Intense from Nicolai, trying more Amouage scents, pouncing on OJ Woman come next Black Friday, sampling Castana by Cloonkeen and maybe finding Guerlain Liu someplace. (and perhaps also Jicky).

If/when you do smell the Cloon Keen Castana, please do report! It got five stars from Turin but they are only sold through some design house web site in the US. Need to find out if they sell samples.

So here goes! I bought full bottles of Alaia, Guerlain Mitsouko EDP, and Chanel No 5 EDT and also a big bottle of Aqua Di Gio for my beloved, so that does not really count. All this was a hair under $200 because I hit the discounters for three of these on a good day to buy. I purchased the Chanel from their website. I ordered some samples from Surrender to Chance but it was not excessive so I think Donatella will forgive me! Not too bad!

I cannot remember when I bought these. I don’t keep track of anything in my personal life because I have to keep track of EVERYTHING while at work. It hasn’t diminished my pleasure at all!

    1) ELdO Fils de Dieu 50ml 50% discount $45

    2) CdG Kyoto 50ml no discount $95

    3) CdG Jaisalmer 50ml no discount $96

Of course, it goes without saying that I am kicking myself with both feet because I never loosed the purse strings to buy Onda VdE or Naja. ?

It was, and it’s all thanks to NST because someone posted a PSA about them being 50% off. It tipped me right over the edge. I’m not as happy with paying full price for the CdG, but oh well. I had small decants of both and used them quickly. They kept knocking on my brainbox, “Hey, remember me?” And I did. So I caved. Not even trying to rationalize. ??‍♀️

Just 1: a pb of Penhaligon Iris Prima, which I’ve wanted for over a year! Just $35 with shipping. It should arrive tomorrow. I’m so excited!

I also bought $20 in samples, but those don’t count.. Last quarter I bought an Iris Prima mini for ~$13 on ebay, plus a $40 broken bottle of Odin Petrana with no spritzer; just a pin. what’s a gal to do about that folks? Someone suggested pulling it off pliers and decanting.

So my total for the year? under $125.

Next year? Not sure. I’m still in love with Iris, woods and vetiver. Anything is possible!

I think someone here on NST suggested pushing in a pin with a Phillips screwdriver and then decanting the bottle contents via syringe in a similar situation.

    1. My Sin edt (vintage) on evilbay for $8.00.
    2. Raffinee edt (vintage) on evilbay for $34.00.
    3. Lutece (vintage) on evilbay for $15.00.
    4. Wrappings mini (vintage) on evilbay for $30.00 – way overpaid after
I lost another auction for a full size bottle.
    5. Wrappings (new) with body lotion bonus for $40.
    6. Chanel No. 5 dry body oil spray $98.
    7. Prescriptives Calyx $60. Had to, because it was Prescriptives!
    8. Tauer PHI mini $25.00, but I don’t have it in my hands yet.
    9. Tauer Wowzilla oil $25.00, not in my hands yet either.

I could have had a bottle of Hermes Hiris in the matte blue bottle but didn’t get it. I’m still kicking myself!

    Hiram Green Dilettante travel spray

(posted in order of purchase). The only really defensible purchases were the Apoteker Tepe and Vero Profumo ones, due to discontinuation/demise of perfumer. I also bought a couple of decants but they were insignificant compared to the list above. Lots of these purchases were at least 15-20% off, but that’s hardly an excuse. Mea culpa!

That was frustrating – it was out of stock on Twisted Lily, so I ordered on Amazon, only to have the seller cancel the order due to no stock (even though their listing claimed they had 8 bottles for sale!?! – avoid e-beauty on Amazon). In desperation, I ordered directly from the manufacturer in Italy at great shipping expense, only to see a bottle pop up on Twisted Lily during their 20% off sale two weeks later. Argh! I had emailed Twisted Lily but they never replied, and a lot of their stuff has been out of stock for months, so I didn’t have faith it would be available any time soon. Oh well.

I’m very late to the quarterly confession today, but nonetheless I’m sure this is good for my soul :)
I finally bought a bottle of Theorema, after a couple of years of dithering. I went through two bottles years ago, and thought it might be a bit sweet for me now, but nostalgia won out.
I got Indochine and Dryad for my birthday. I know one can customarily not count presents, but my mother certainly didn’t give me enough money to cover both of these, so they were more a present to myself!
My unplanned purchase was Vero Kern’s Mito EdP. It had been on my possible list for a long time and the sad news of her death made me realise it might be now or never. I might have been just in time, as I got the last bottle from Luckyscent.

Also really late, but enjoyed reading about everyone’s purchases!
I was actually really good and, if not for some “technical problems”, could have reported a zero buy.
EXCEPT that a friend’s husband who volunteered to courier a parcel for me, arrived with my long ago ordered three bottles on October 3rd and I reimbursed him.
    1) Late to the party with Iris Cendre, but no regrets
    2) Bulgari au The Vert -FB after finishing a mini
    3) Molinard Habanita
and bought this, but then my husband offered to pay for it as I am notoriously difficult to buy Christmas gifts for:
    4) Tea for Two L’Artisan
    So may 3 1/2?

I’m so thankful for Pixel and Cazaubon’s lists as I felt like I had been really bad this quarter and ultimately I wasn’t that bad. Still, considering the size of my collection, I have been.

Andy Tauer: Lonestar Memories, which has been on my buy list for ages.
L’Artisan Parfumeur, Bucoliques de Provence. I knew I had to have this ever since first smelling it after it had just come out. Lavender, iris and a pretty bottle. Funnily enough the smell does not capture the Provence smell at all, but it still is so very lovely.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Absolue pour le soir
Aedes de Venustas, Œillet Bengale (at half the price)

Plus I got my mother the travel sizes of Une fleur de cassie and got myself the large sample pack of Oriza L. Legrand.

My most extravagant year must have been around 2009, when afraid of IFRA I got a ridiculous number of fragrances. I remember getting more than half of all the available Nicolaïs in small bottles in one go.
I’ve often wondered what the people at Nicolaï were thinking when they were preparing that order. ;)

One bottle of Rien Intense Incense by ELDO, Christmas gift for myself. (and I’ve decanted 2/3 of it because 100ml is waaaay to much for this nuclear perfume). That’s it for this quoter and actually this year!

I’ve did some perfume and sample swap over the year, but that was without putting any money in it.

That is a beauty. I’ve got a bottle of the original Rien and can’t quite justify a full botlle of the Intense version. Would love a mini bottle at some point.

I knew better Rien than Intense Incense and after I’ve got the bottle I was wondering if maybe I like the original more.
It’s very incensy for the first hours and it dries down to the original Rien. The performance is nuclear…it lasts for almost 24 hours on my skin and all my wardrobe usually lasts 6-12 hours.

Hats off to Pixel and cazaubon!!!

For me zippo , zilch, rien….I think last quarter was my only purchasing quarter and I bought only two bottles (Heaven and Reglisse Noire) around 89 dollars so that is my total for the year….(I am not counting gifts or samples)

like others I am on a no buy for 2019……

after a 2018 of mostly no buy, i went hog wild (for me) in Q4…
3.4 oz of escada agua del sol – $10 (so i guess that was free)
DS & Durga come undone – $100ish all said and done
And the World is Yours – $35?
and a buttload of samples, but since they are so small they are technically free

I think I bought Bvlgari Eau Parfumée Au Thé Noir this quarter, though I can’t really remember: cost – $113. So I think I was at $376 for 2018 bottles, possibly my lowest total since I got into perfume. But I feel a buy or two coming on…

I didn’t buy anything this quarter, and my annual outlay was less than $500 for the year, the lowest in six years. That doesn’t mean I didn’t get any new stuff–Fumerie has 2 swaps a year, plus the NST swapmeets/splitmeets, so I am refining my perfume cabinet. I do love getting rid of the stuff I don’t wear and getting new loves.

I was doing really, really well. Or, quite well. Well, not bad.

Until mid December I had bought a travel spray of Musc Ravageur, and a much-discounted Au Dela Narcisse (and replaced a finished bottle of L’heure bleue).

Then all of a sudden I tracked down a bottle of Rozy VdP–it had been out of stock at all the usual suspects for a while–and the barely touched Onda extrait that I had bid on ebay had… not a single bid against me. Then Bloom had a 25% off sale, so I had to replace the almost-empty decant of Couer de Noire–I want to continue to smell like a pirate queen who writes bad poetry next year too–AND Chris Rusak had 15ml minis on sale. So, a wee bottle of gorgeous io headed across the ocean to me.

That said: I sat on my hands while a bottle of vintage Bandit extrait was listed and relisted. And didn’t blind buy the new Slumberhouse. Nor, though I might regret this, did I buy Naja.

I haven’t confessed in a while because I usually confess immediately after I purchase. Here’s my attempt at a list for the 4th Quarter. I excluded minis, decants and splits. It is a very restrained quarter as compared with several you-know-who. If I forgot something, please remind me :-)

Aftelier Alchemy x 2 (these are mini sized but each is considered a FB)
    Chanel No. 5 L’eau Red
    Chanel Paris Deauville
    Diana Vreeland Daringly Different
Frederic Malle Iris Poudre (BUB of BUB of BUB)
    Herve Gambs Hotel Particulier
    Hiram Green Hyde
    Maison Lancome Iris Dragees (travel)
    Maison Lancome Jasmins Marzipane (travel)
Maison Lancome Parfait de Roses (travel)
    Mona di Orio Santal Nabatea
    Mugler Aura EDT
    Profumum Roma Ichnusa (travel)
    Tom Ford Lost Cherry
    Vero Profumo Naja

In comparison to ‘some’ people’s purchases mine are small fry, but here goes…….
Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle, 30ml, £20 from a swap site. Could be up for a swap.
CDGMan2, 30ml for £40, love this and don’t know why I didn’t get this sooner.
CDG2, 30ml for £45. Not a love but I appreciate it. Both the CDG were discounted.
The Woods by Mark Buxton, 50ml EDP, with shower gel and soap, £85. Was sucked in from here on a bad day, it is surprisingly good. The soap will be up for a freebie meet.
Bulgari Pour Homme, £45, for nostalgic reasons. Still smells good.
L’Occitane Cedrat pour Homme, £45, 100ml and 250ml shower gel. (Good for work. )
    L’Occitane pour Homme, £45, 100ml and 250ml shower gel.
Prada Black, 50ml and 100ml shower gel.
See a theme here, if it has a shower gel I WILL buy it!
Spicebomb travel set, £45, 3x18ml with travel canister, I’m a sucker for a pretty carry case.

So the worst quarter yet at £370. Some of this was paid for by Christmas money so leaves me about £250 out of pocket (ouch).

I think I should cancel the basket at Le Labo for Santal33, but don’t think I will. Oh god someone help me. ??

Love the CDG2 Man–it’s one of the few things where I have reached a third bottle (admittedly, the first two bottles were small ones). I gave my CDG2 to a friend, though. Like you: appreciate it more than i enjoy it, and she loves it. After making a couple of decants for her, it made sense to pass on the bottle instead.

not helping you with the Santal (but have you tried the Vetiver 46? it’s an awfully nice companion piece to CDG2 Man.)

I can’t believe I forgot the damage poll. I had gotten a full bottle of vintage Jicky, vintage LHB, a La Maison vanilla travel set and a bottle of URV. A couple years ago, this would have been showing restraint but this is going a little overboard.

No bottles (not counting the 30ml 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul that was a Christmas gift from husband – even though I technically purchased it).

I didn’t confess in the 3rd quarter poll, which was when all of my damage for the year happened. That poll is always during the beginning of the school year when I’m not active on NST. Came back from London/Paris with a travel set from Ormonde Jayne; 2 (on sale!) bottles from Yves Rocher – Rose Oud and Accord Chic; Nicolai: Fig-Tea, L’Eau de Corail, Kiss Me Intense, Juste un reve, Week-end in Normandy ; Fragonard Santal Cardamom; Goutal Bois d’Hadrien. Most of these were the small bottles but it was a little out of control, which prompted my current no-buy.

    Mugler Womanity mini – $8.18
Avon Mesmerize vintage bottle – $11.50
Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling 2x15ml travel sprays, split with an NSTer – $36.50
Frederic Malle Monsieur 10ml travel spray – $47.58
Frederic Malle Une Fleur de Cassie 10ml travel spray – $63.49
Sylvaine Delacourte Virgile, Valkyrie, and Vangelis travel spray set – $28
Gucci EDP (original brown juice) partial bottle – $32.70
Bruno Fazzolari Vetiverissimo 5ml decant, Mona di Orio Santal Nabataea 5ml decant, and Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles 10ml decant – $65

Total is $292.95 but that’s not the whole story. I bought quite a few samples and discovery sets from indie perfumers and Luckyscent. Good thing Donatella lets me off the hook for those.

I did not plan to buy anything this quarter, but things happen. Proudly, I did achieve my goal of resisting decants. My two purchases were a full bottle of Phlur Greylocke (it was haunting my dreams) and blind bought the travel set of Kilian’s new “young” line with the red and black labels and really long names because my manicurist (she fits the demographic) kept raving about it. They are nice and easy to wear to work, but nothing earth-shattering.

Bless me, Donatella, for I have sinned — it’s been at least three quarters since my last purchase, but I fell for both Iris Poudre and Musc Ravageur this year and so treated myself to travel-size bottles of each. And I’m so glad I did!

Forgive my Donatella for I have sinned-it has been a busy 4th quarter …. I travelled to L.A. and THAT didn’t help, HOW does one go to the Luckyscent Bar and come out under purchased when there are (so many lovely people to educate me and )so so many beautiful perfumes to take home and adopt??? I did try to to exercise will power and self restraint, but a few where about to slip through my fingers forever, or so I thought…. I promise to do better until I wear some of these
religiously and then give to others in order to spread the word….
Here is my confession (without decants ofANY size included…else I would have to buy you dinner….) These are Full Bottle purchases:

    Bois D’Ascese, Naomi Goodsir
    IO, Chris Rusak
    Reglisse Noire, Jessica September Buchanan
    Jungle L’ Elephant, Kenzo
    St Clair Scents, Casablanca
    CdG Avignon (no more decants)
    MFK 540 Rouge Extrait
    Kabeah Nuit de Jasmine
Parfum D’Empire Le Cri Dela Luminere

    Whew I feel better…..
