I am wearing Chanel No. 5 EDP, drinking Earl Grey tea and getting ready to bring my dog to the vet for his yearly checkup. He turned 13 years old last week.
That is a wonderful age for a dog. Is he still ok?

SOTD is Chanel No. 5 L’Eau – very off-season, but I felt like wearing this summer scent, so hello, L’Eau.

I have a lot of numbered perfumes, and considered several this AM; but eventually went with Boudoir. I have been putting in stupid long hours for cranky people all month, and I am DONE with people. Scent of an aroused woman was my choice for the corporate holiday staff lunch, and if people don’t like it, I care not.

I’m wearing Histoires de Parfums 1740, Marquis de Sade. This scent is fantastic, and I’m glad the CP gave me an occasion to remember to wear it. The combination of artemisia and patchouli is wonderful, so well-blended, and I love the sweetness to this scent. I don’t get the leather aspect much at all. This week I’ve been pretty busy taking my mother to various medical appointments and getting her enrolled in an excellent adult activity center. We’re having lovely sunny weather and my house is all decorated for Christmas. It only remains to make some Christmas cookies–probably this weekend!

If I’m in a perfume shop, I tend to be less interested in trying perfumes with mainly number names. I prefer word names, even if I don’t understand them. Pretty deep, lol.

Probably! There’s just something about numeric digits that I find uninviting and dry and maybe devoid of feeling. I also hated math as a kid.

This is the time of year when I go to work AND come home in the dark (12 hour shifts) and some days it can be tough, not gonna lie.
SotD is 1996. After several mehs and misses from this line, I found one that works for me. I think most people get iris, but on my skin it is mostly patchouli. Not sharp patchouli, but buttery and smooth. Plus, 1996 was a good year for me, so it’s a nice association.
Today I have to finish the last of my shopping and then later my girls and I will bake some peanut butter blossom cookies.?

I have been MIA for some time, so totally missed the boat on the CP. I’m wearing DSH Dark Moon, which is a “chocolate chypre” (Dawn’s description!) and super yummy. Finally coming off the cold that caused me to cancel my last week of preschool before the break (singing music teachers don’t do well when coughing every 30 seconds…) A little apprehensive about the amount of entertaining coming up this week (3 dinners and overnight guests for 28-31 – Steeler game). My husband has been pretty helpful, though, and he’s off until after New Year’s so he will be put to work. Happy Friday!

It’s all an act, and deep down, she knows we need pretty things to make the world a bearable place.

No. 23 was another of my contenders for today. It is so sad when the best ones are no longer available, and I think you’re right on with that study. Sometimes I do wonder if I love a perfume more because it’s discontinued or limited edition. Another lost Ava Luxe that makes my eyes roll back in pleasure is Hong Kong Garden.

So, I went a bit nuts and layered three for the day. Molecule 01, Molecule 02 and Escentric 04. It’s fun to see how the combined scents amplify some notes. The javanol, which is normally creamy/sour to me, smells more biting, more like old school sandalwood. I’d bet it’s the ambroxan…Do I get extra credit for multiple numbers or lose perfumista cred for sporting the Escentric Molecules line?? In perfume, as in life, I aim to overachieve. Fun project.

Woo hoo! It’s Friday AND I’m leaving early today. Some of my good friends we’ve made since moving here last year- a couple I work with- are moving after Christmas. Such a bummer since we have so much fun with them, but happy for them to have a good opportunity elsewhere. Going to have lunch and a beer with them to say goodbye.
Also, you know how much losing my Lucy bird hurt me a while back- I still can’t talk about it much without crying. But anyway, J (my fiance) knew I had a hole in my heart and got me a pup for Christmas! We can’t pick him up until January, but I am so excited. He will never replace my Lucy, but I’m so excited to have another baby to love. Pics below if you want to see him!

We did have an adult dog I adopted from the shelter. It’s a super long story but he had severe separation anxiety which we obviously didn’t know at the time. We took him to doggy therapy and everything but it was so bad. After about six months of knowing it wasn’t best for him or us J found a family that he works with who has a farm a little bit south of Albuquerque and the wife stays home. They have two other dogs, pigs, chickens, and so we let him go try it out there and he loves it there so much. They frequently send us pics of him and let us visit him and all. I think he had just been in that shelter for too long and it just messed with him mentally.
So since Lucy died I’ve been an empty nest-er. It’s been hard. ?
Oh, I didn’t realize. Sounds like he’s in the right place now. Hope your new pup will bring you a ton of happiness!
Even if it didn’t work out for him at our house I’m thrilled he’s with a good family and other animals and out of the horrible shelter. :/

I was about 30 minutes late for the meetup but the tour was required to wait for me since it was an “official” Holland America” tour.

Vintage Green 78 from Banana Republic. This stuff smells very much like Origins Spring Fever, which sometimes appears around the holidays. I’d recommend this if you love the ‘Fever’!

One of the rules in the handbook for working members is no scents allowed. Still I think I will put on a little rose oil. They’d have to be a total scent Scrooge to have a problem with that!

Seriously arguing with myself whether I should “call it a year”: theoretically, I have one work day left between holidays and my vacation – the next Wednesday, and I have more than enough to do (poorly scheduled project that requires all the time I can put in it – and then some), but I’m tired and slightly upset about the PTO policies for the next year (they gave us “”Flexible PTO” which usually means less time off than you’d get with the fixed number of days), so I’m less motivated to make an extra effort now… But then it’ll be i nightmare in January… Anyway, rant OFF, good mood and holidays anticipations ON.

Gray and rainy with the sun playing peek-a-boo. I did a Costco run, got my hair cut and got a little bit of shopping done. Tomorrow, I will brave the mall and hopefully finish all the shopping I need to do!
At Costco today, it took all my willpower to not to smash another person’s cell phone. In the spirit of the season, I just breathed deeply and thought about good things. The woman in front of me at the checkout line was one of 3 women who shopped together. They had one cart full of stuff so one of them came back with another cart. I figured no big deal because it’s not like she came back with 10 more items. Anyway, the woman holding on to the remnants of the original cart whipped out her cell phone and started chatting instead of unloading her cart on to the belt. Finally, while still talking, she unloaded the smaller items and distractedly pushed her cart to the wrong side of the register. When the cashier gestured that it needs to be on the other side, she lackadaisically pushed it halfway to where it should be while still glued to her phone. Were it not for another Costco worker pushing the cart to where it should be, there would have been an ugly scene. i, as well as the 5 people behind me, were further delayed when they insisted on 3 separate receipts but they only had 2 memberships between the 3 of them. A manager had to come, explain the rules and override the transaction. Unbelievable!
Ah, and some shoppers acted as if they had never seen rain before. At the entrance/exit, one cart was parked smacked in the middle and 3 cards were off to either side, with the people looking out and hoping the rain would stop. It was not even raining that hard!
In other news, my vacation started today and I’ll be back in the office on January 7. As much as I was hoping I don’t have to do work-work, I need to put in 4-6 hours before the end of the year, well, before December 27 since I am leaving for Lisbon on the 27th.
You smell wonderful! I considered wearing Vanille 44 but had time in the morning to check what others were wearing and saw that somebody chose it already – so I decided to go with something else (it would have been fine had I not seen it before applying but since I had, I wanted to contribute to diversity
).
I hate when people are inconsiderate. I am human, I have my own flaws, but at least I try not to increase the entropy without necessity.
In my family we usually exchange gifts for the NY, so normally I have an extra week to get what I need. But this year we were invited to our friends’ house on Christmas, and I just learned a couple of days ago that this time we’re participating in a gift exchange (usually we were excluded
), so tomorrow I’ll have to brave a shopping trip… As much as I normally like shopping (yeah, I know, I’m strange), I do not look forward to it this weekend…
Our extended family reunion is earlier this year (will be on the 23rd). We only give to the kids and the cut off is once they graduate from college, the gifting goes poof. I just give the kids $$s so it’s easy ?

Finally finished all the day’s errands and have been enjoying the actual winter solstice in real time while relaxing to the album, Winter Solstice, a favorite of mine featuring the beautiful Spanish guitar music from Terra Guitarra. (If you’re anywhere near Naples, Florida, you can catch them at the Botanical Garden. I highly recommend Bruce and Julie!) Little Bear is lulled to sleep in my lap from its gentle strains. Peace at last!
My favorite winter fragrance notes are woods and spices but sometimes, especially on casual Fridays, I opt for sweet and simple. So my choice for today’s cp is Trish McEvoy No. 9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk. On me it’s mostly sweet blackberry and I prefer it to the popular philosophy FIL, which is not as rich nor as long-lasting.
Looking forward to wrapping presents this weekend and baking Cioci Flo’s kolaczki and making my special mushroom and barley soup to accompany our Christmas Eve pierogi. I hope that at least in some small fashion the peace, love, and joy of the season touches your life and makes it just a bit brighter!

Robin, I could smell everything else fine yesterday except for my SOTD. Not quite sure what happened with that.
SOTD = HdP 1740, from the sample stash. Today called out for a leather scent.
That is really weird. Usually if something gives me olfactory fatigue I can’t smell anything!
Was too busy working on cleaning out my storage unit to post yesterday but I did participate by sampling DSH Zeitgeist 55 which starts as an oily leather then gets sweeter and more floral eventually
