Monday scent of the day 11/19

Posted by Robin on 19 November 2018 257 Comments

Update: we will be down for part of the day tomorrow for scheduled maintenance. Hopefully the scent of the day poll will appear eventually, but it will probably be several hours later than usual.

Happy International Men’s Day! It's also, unfortunately for everybody, another Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm celebrating the holiday in (old) Dior Eau Sauvage.

Reminder: on 11/23, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is Robert Pattison for Dior Homme Fall 2018.

    You smell wonderful Robin!
I’m wearing Patou 1000, which smells pleasantly opulent and elegant. It’s quite cold here today, but great for walking!

    Robin, you smell great!

Today I’m fighting the dry, wintry air in L’Occitane Amande body oil + The Body Shop Red Musk perfume oil.

    So. Moisturized.

That is so sweet, but I have easy access to a L’Occitane store, I can pop over and get some for myself. I’m just visiting at my parents’ house right now and didn’t bring any liquids/gels due to traveling light.

I’m wearing Santal Massoïa, from a spray sample. It is almost minty to my nose. First time to wear it, but I’ve had it for awhile, so I don’t know if I fit the CP.

You can buy the coffee (beans or ready made in bottles) in many local grocery stores. I can’t get a “fresh” Peets near me, though.

Dear Barqs, I loved Paradise too.
I tried a few and Frangapani just blooms on my skin. Songes by AG does the same, but this one is more classical, more elegant white floral chore. Even Mr L loves it, who is normally a perfume grinch. He bought me a travel spray of that one. So lovely.

Not wearing anything yet because I had to get up at the A** Crack of dawn to get my windshield replaced. I have big plans for Naja as soon as I get back in the van.

This link is for hajusuuri and all the poor souls who have to suffer commuting woes on the daily. This needs to be a real thing:

The windshield is no problem. Don’t even have to pay deductible, just hang around while it’s being replaced. I’m just not great at waiting, but that’s just one of my many personal flaws.

Oops, this was meant for SP above!

Lilyjo, I often wonder why I’m a nurse for that very same reason. Sometimes people are very hard to like. I was complaining to an old friend about people in general, and she imparted these words of wisdom: “The people that are the most difficult to love are the ones who need it the most.” I very much agree with her, but still…sometimes it just “Ugh!”

That’s a lovely sentiment. I saw that in the young man who said he didn’t care because no one else cares, I am paraphrasing. The woman shaving her legs, that’s just beyond gross…

When it comes to loving difficult people, I am a pro!???? what really gets me is the lack of basic social skills and manners. I feel like if you’re a careless pig, fine… just don’t be one in public.

Not at all! It does not really smell like olives (at least salty canned ones), but it smells a bit like olive oil and some herbs and vegetables you could find in a salad. But predominantly it smells of citrus – zesty and warm citrus scent, a nice pick-me-up in winter.

Good morning….at least it’s a short work week, so we’ve got that going for us!

I’ve been spending the last few evening cleaning, organizing, and decluttering my perfume collection. Last night I found a forgotten gem, so I’m wearing it today: Scent Trunk “Aromatic Chypre 1”. Scent Trunk sent it to me based on a list of notes that I listed as loves, and they absolutely nailed it. It’s GLORIOUS! It was blended by Sarah McCartney, so it’s a little bit magical! :)
    https://www.instagram.com/p/BqWW3tJhSz5/

So far I’ve given about 15 bottles of perfume away to coworkers….I no longer want to keep bottles that I don’t reach for. If I haven’t reached for it in a year, it’s G-O-N-E. Feels so good to rehome these lonely forgotten bottles! :)

I could not be smeling better on my birthday in SSS Amber incense. A present from a very dear friend of mine. I really  appreciate her kindness and friendship and I am loving this beauty to the max!

It is going to be a long, crazy day for me today. I came to work at 5:30am. I am out at one of the sites most of the day and later I will take my dog to the vet. He has been doing pretty bad for the past month and needs a gallbladder surgery. The surgeon will evaluate him today. Positive and healthy vibes for him are appreciated.
I will not do anything especial today. Just be thankful for the gift of another year and be quiet at home for the rest of the evening. I will meet my family on Thanksgiving day instead!
Have a happy and peaceful Monday everyone!

Good morning NST! I’m testing Olympic Orchids Devilscent #3. It’s a very good spiced incense, and for some reason despite nothing on the notes list to suggest it, it reminds me of some dark cherries soaked in brandy I once got to throw into drinks. I like.

SOTD is Music for a While. As usual, I can’t identify any of the notes mentioned (discernible pineapple? nope) but I like how I smell.

I have been supplying (substituting to my American friends) quite a bit this fall in various school libraries. On the automated call out system, it warns you to “refrain from scented products due to allergy situations” but I dared to wear a bit of Fresh Cream body souffle one day. A little boy was looking at a book with me and said “Ohhh, you smell soooo good! Guys, she smells so good! She smells like marshmallows!” Whereupon the entire class had to crowd around and sniff me. Their teacher was admonishing, “Be polite! Be polite!” but of course, I loved it.

Hey friends, I’m wearing my version of liquid courage to get through this morning’s flight from CA to Boise for work: Rose Flash! It’s kind of in keeping with the CP, in that it’s not terribly expensive?

I’ve got less than a two-hour flight, but still stressful: the airport sure was busy this morning. I’ve never seen a TSA Precheck line that long! Too many professionals in the Bay Area who need to fly regularly >:o My flight back to CA on Wednesday afternoon is sure to be a misery due to Thanksgiving.

    2) I am doing T day this year (10 people!) so I bought a turkey, broke it down, and did a dry rub on it. Got two frozen pies to bake in the oven, acorn squash, greens from the garden, mushrooms from the woods, rolls from the bakery and people will bring wine. It is gonna be lit, and I will be expecting to see YOU at 6 pm SHARP.

We’ve had a bit of a cold blast, even had a dash of snow on the hill yesterday but all washed off now. The peony growers have lost most of their crop due to snow. I saw some electric neon pink peonies at the weekend and what a colour! Tuesday…so missed men’s day. So happy post-men’s day!! Or men’s plus one day! Or men: the day after, day! Or men, so yesterday day! Seriously, happy men’s day. You know who you are.

In Sacrebleu Intense. Got it through an NST swap a while back. This is one I must remember smells very different on my skin. Quick sniffs of the bottle usually leave me cold, but on my skin, warm, it is lovely.

International Men’s Day? Why not? This month is a big deal for women’s rights activists. 16 Days of Activism starts on November 25–it is the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The last day, Dec. 10, is International Human Rights Day. (International Women’s Day is March 8).

I’m wearing Promesse de l’Aube for a grocery trip and then I have to fix the lights on the outdoor Christmas tree. Last year I noticed a branch was out. Also, I’m trying to grow out my hair a little bit, from super short to cover-the-ears short. It’s at the terrible stick-out-all-over stage and the hairdresser is in the same shopping complex as the grocery store. Must remain strong.

I have been absent from NST for a week. I was in Orlando for a week on vacation, where I bought some perfumed souvenirs. One of them I am wearing today, AdP Magnolia Nobile. I have been admiring this scent for a while and I have gone through two decants.

Also, I am on my third cup of Shalimar tea.

I shopped in Disneyworld EPCOT, in the world showcase section :) In France –Guerlain, Givenchy, Dior, Mugler and Kenzo are sold. In United Kingdom — Penhaligons and Yardley are sold. In Italy — Acqua di Parma, Bvlgari and Prada are sold.

I visited Vienna last weekend and had a blast. I put two sets of photos on ny Insta

Main reason for me to go was the big Bruegel exhibition in the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

The Beethoven frieze by Klimt in the Secession building was gorgeous as well, but not very photogenic.

The museum is nice but a bit of a mash up (three local museum collections thrown together in one huge building). They offered some interesting displays though.

The whole industrial complex of the Zollverein is amazing though. And there is a coal museum as well in another building and that was a neat and modern exhibition of everything coal mining related.

Knize Ten starts off as LEATHER!! Spicy, heavy, some smoke and a little oily, but not masculine to my nose. Definitely unisex or shared. It calms down quite a bit after an hour or so, and eventually becomes a skin scent on me. It is definitely a leather scent the whole time I wear it.

Everybody calls Knize Ten a leather but I’ve never perceived that. I wear it because it’s the best carnation fragrance I know of. I’m definitely the odd man out here.

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

OMG, little did I know it turned out to be one of the days that only No.19 can save the day. Let me count the ways:
    1) I left my cell phone at home. Yep, I did. I survived, but barely.
    2) Commuting Woes galore – my commute in the morning was 30 minutes longer than usual and I almost missed a meeting! We were told it’s because of signal problem. I think it’s because it’s Monday.
    3) I read an email wrong and made a stupid comment.

    Banking Woes:
✅ The good news: I was able to transact moving moving funds from matured CDs to my checking account. Yay!
❎ The bad news: it will take 3 business days for the funds to be credited to my account. Say what? ????????????. Same bank, all accounts under my name. What the what? The CSR said he will file a complaint on my behalf and I said OK, but I expect a call back from someone acknowledging receipt of my complaint and an explanation of why it would take 3 business days.

Weekend – woohoo! Chopard Casmir was cheap and a thrill, a no brainer office friendly perfume. ???? lillyjo!

    Pet Peeves:
    – I was behind a police car. It made 2 turns and changed lanes twice and the driver never used any turn signals! I bet if it was behind a car where the driver did not use turn signals, the cop would have found an excuse to snag the driver.
    – I bought two papayas at Wegmans. The cashier looked at them and asked me what they were. What else are they not teaching kids these days?
    – Why do people insist on tailgating me during a snowstorm when I am going just a little bit under the speed limit in a 2 lane road that had not been plowed?
    – Why are people so impatient that they will maneuver over a bank of snow to go on their way while a smaller car was clearly in trouble with wheels spinning and digging itself further into the snow , angled diagonally on above 2 lane road and partially blocking both directions? I stopped 20 feet from the car and thank God a Good Samaritan plow truck driver pushed the car out of the rut.

Banks are too much. A couple of weeks ago, the ATM at the main bank malfunctioned & didn’t dispense my cash. The bank gave me a “provisional” credit whilst they “investigate.” Grrr.
Have you ever popped by the Chanel boutique? Wondering if you’ll get a chance to try out 1957 one of these days and report back to us.

Hi everyone, I’m very late tonight but have enjoyed reading through ALL the comments and hearing about many people’s bad days and some good things and scent choices. I’m back in Michigan for another two-week visit to help look after my mom. We took her for a follow-up at the memory care unit today and it seems her medication has really helped some–she scored higher on the cognitive test! We had thick snow Sunday morning but it’s mostly gone now. It was kind of pretty but I did not enjoy having to clean off my car in the morning for the first time in 30+ years! SoTD was MFK Oud Satin Mood. Not a particular reason to wear it except it’s so smooth and comfortable and pretty and I don’t have a lot with me to choose from–I find it hard to select perfumes to have with me when I travel. We’ll be having Thanksgiving dinner out with relatives at a restaurant in Ann Arbor and I’m glad that no one has to get stressed out over cooking and cleanup, though I do love cooking parts of the dinner myself. This should be relaxing and the weather forecast does NOT include snow and ice this week so that’s good too.
