Wednesday scent of the day 10/17

Posted by Robin on 17 October 2018 209 Comments

Hump Day, and not a moment too soon. 75 days left in 2018, which is a few too many for my taste, and don't forget the splitmeet is coming up on Saturday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm planning a day in Fendi Theorema, because Nancyleandros mentioned it yesterday.

Reminder: on 10/19, for Family History Month, wear a fragrance that someone in your family wore, or that reminds you of someone in your family, or that reflects your family history in some way.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing a bit of Cuir de Russie extrait from a sample gifted to me by a generous NSTer. I’m iffy about the EDP, but the extrait is quite nice-maybe a tad too green for me (reminds me of a denser, more feminine version of Guerlain Derby).
Beautiful sunny but cold morning and I dressed more warmly than I did yesterday, so much less cranky this am, lol. Happy Humpday, all!

Inspired by others this week I am in Bandit.

Waiting for a furniture repair person to come. My little monkey managed (and very proudly so) to pull the buttons off our recliner chair.

Having a quiet morning so far, looking at the front cover of our WSJ and shaking my head. Since there is a comment policy that is all I will say about that.

I went for a nice stroll this morning in central park after dropping the little ones off. Such a beautiful crisp day! I love this fall weather…

Good morning, friends, on Day 3 of Project: Jet Lag! Shockingly, waking up at 5:30 was easier than yesterday’s 6:15 wake-up time. Also, it was surprisingly easy to fall asleep at 10pm. Huh. I expect I just didn’t sleep well the night before.

Forgot perfume in my eagerness to get out the door this morning, so I’m wearing Mohur from a dedicated work travel spray :) Mohur could work for the CP, because of its Indian associations (and accordingly, my family’s Indian heritage).

Wish me luck on getting out of work early! I have a bad habit of staying late no matter how early I get in >.<

Stopped halfway home to spend the afternoon and evening with my college girl. We hung out in her dorm room last night in our sweats and watched a movie. Took me back, oh about 30 years. Good times. Today I will make the rest of the way home. Beautiful sunny fall day today!????????

SOTD for me is No. 5 Eau Première.

So we’ve gone from summer straight into early winter here in NY.
The heat went on in our apt. this morning for the first time this season and I’m scrambling for sweaters, hats and warm clothing. The sweater coat I wore today does not cut it and yet I can’t bear to bring out the wool coat.

One thing I am looking forward to is making soup! I’m also learning how to bake with new types of flour such as spelt and amaranth, as well as less processed sweeteners like coconut sugar. Excited to experience these new flavors and textures.

Hi floagal, I’m also trying out different flours, and baking with sugar alternatives, deliciouslyella has a yummy gingerbread recipe with an amazing caramel sauce made with coconut sugar.
I’ve started using xylitol to replace sugar in most recipes.

    Hi all,
SOTD is a mixture of Kiehl’s Musk and L’ Artisan Vanilia (original formula).
Busy day of HR meetings and rewriting Position descriptions. We are taking my employee for her farewell lunch to celebrate her promotion, it should be enjoyable!
    Everyone have a good day!

In Ann Gerard’s Perles de Mousse this morning because I got the little travel spray in the mail yesterday – a make me feel better purchase after a very contentious work meeting last week. Angela here on NST and Bois de Jasmin both classified it as more of spring scent and I agree – but it’s nice nonetheless, though I like Ciel d’Opale better.
    Happy Hump Day!

I’m in a perfume that my mom currently wears, though she doesn’t wear perfume very often. It’s vintage Amouage Ciel, a decant I made from her bottle. The bottle looks like this: https://goo.gl/images/tRWuwK

My aunt owns a salon and does color for some wealthy women. One of her clients gave her this bottle years ago, and when my mom visited her in Seattle from Ohio, my aunt gave the bottle to my mom. Neither of them knew anything about it, but I freaked out a bit when she brought it home and showed me. She keeps wanting me to have it, but I tell her to keep it since I know she loves the perfume. She tends towards florals, and this vintage Ciel is gorgeous. I find it creamier than the current version.

Wow, lots of comment this morning already!

Another beautiful photo today- loving these vintage black and white shots????????

No scent of the day yet…must shower stat! I went out on a pub crawl last night with some fellow travelers and we had a blast! Out till 3am, which I haven’t done since the last ice age. The thing I forgot was the disgusting after effects of ciagarette smoke in hair and clothes. Yech!

So: shower, then 7 Virtues Vetiver of Haiti courtesy of a super generous NSTer. You know who you are and I thank you for your kindness????

Woken at the crack of dawn by a frosty phone call from the rental office because I was parked in an unapproved parking spot. Wah-wah! This is what happens when you don’t provide tenants adequate parking.

Second call was an offer for my next work gig, which will start 11/5. It’s a great relief to have another contract lined up and ready. Only 5 more shifts here in Reno and I was starting to get a bit nervous.

    Happy Humpday to all ✌????

Hmm, your memory of picking figs reminded me of how I used to go out into the orchards and help my grandmother and great-grandmother pick cherries for pies. I was good at climbing up the ladders where you could grab the ones that were out of reach from the ground, so they liked to take me along. Then we’d come home and pit all those cherries (sigh). I am not really sure of any cherry notes in fragrances, though–will have to search on that.

I never helped do anything with the figs after we picked them but goodness, I sure spent my fair share of time shelling peas and snapping/stringing green beans beans and shucking corn haha. I took it for granted back then but I wish I could go back and sit on my granny’s porch and do it all over again.

Starts out a little acetone-y, but quickly develops to a woody creamy peppery little bit spicy and warm scent, maybe a touch of dirt, could be the tea I smell. Temps where I am have been cold, and I think with heat this would really bloom. I keep spraying just because it’s so lovely but i can smell this even the next day. Sprayed on skin and on sweater, definitely works better on skin. I don’t want to say it’s like Theorema, but there’s a small similarity.

My paternal grandmother apparently enjoyed Avon’s perfumed talcs. Ones that I know she had include Occur!, Here’s My Heart, Rose Geranium, Honeysuckle, and Lily of the Valley.
The only Avon that I have now is the Imari perfumed body cream, so that’s what I’m wearing today. Bought it on a whim a few years ago and ended up loving it. I read somewhere that Avon reformulated and re-packaged older lines like Imari two or three years ago, and now I’m afraid to order it again.

When I was very young I bought my grandmother a big bottle of a Jean Naté product, not sure which one. It sat on a shelf above the bathtub forEVER, and I am positive it was never opened. Can’t remember why I might have chosen that as a gift, and have no idea at all what it smelled like. Saw it on that same shelf for years, maybe decades, and in an odd way that alone is a nice memory. Wonder who lives there now and what sits in that same spot.

I recall my grandmother using them while dry, before dressing. Back in the day, people didn’t shower every day, they would do more of a sponge bath. I’m talking way back… My paternal grandmother would be 114 now.

Finishing up testing my 7 Virtues Peace Blend sampler. Today I have Orange Blossom on my left hand, versus their older Afghanistan Orange Blossom on my right hand. I’m thinking the AOB has gone off ’cause today it smells like orange blossom mothballs. I may have to thunk this bottle. Will try blasting out the sprayer, but perhaps these just don’t last.

The new OB is quite nice though, best of the Peace Blend lot, IMO. Pretty and cheerful.

We’re having such an unusually beautiful warm and sunny autumn here, Cuir de Lancôme felt perfect today.

We must be neighbours as our fall is the same. Also twins as I’m in CdL too!

Today two of my cats were taking turns between sleeping in the sunny bay window, and hanging out on the “kitty hot pad”. They are definitely not fans of the sudden shift to serious fall weather. ???????????? I however am willing to overlook the cooler temps if it means that there are more sunbeams in the forecast. Time to break out the wool socks! ????

SOTD = Jardins d’Armide EdP from Oriza L. Legrand. This is a rather pretty powdery rose scent with some tonka and honey as secondary notes. The powder is cosmetic powder, not baby powder. ????

I wouldn’t mind sleeping in a sunny bay window myself. My kitties have just switched back to napping in their cat beds, instead of lying on the bare floors as they do in warm weather.

      Your sotd sounds nice!

Thank you! I am noticing a bit of a Turkish delight vibe in the drydown of it. That might be because I’ve been wanting a little nibble of some lately.

I envy the cats their naps. I just saw one of them run for a heat vent now that the heater has kicked on.

I wouldn’t mind cool with sun either. Although would throw in no snow! Or…. no more than one inch at a time!

I´m very late to the party this time. I spent the day in Amouage Myths Woman, which I always feel is like a narcissus on steroids.

Still trying to figure out what to wear on Friday, perfume wasn’t big in our family. My mother would wear fragrance but as she is a terrible oversprayer so it’s something of a miracle that I love perfume.

Me too! Sometimes I am glad it takes me a while to get to work to let my scent die down before I get to the office lol.

Hi, I’m late too. Wearing Ciel de Gum today, which is really gorgeous in cooler weather. It’s got a kind of sharp edge in the warmer weather but right now seems simply delicious. I’m picking up mainly the vanilla and rose. It’s possibly the pink pepper note that is too harsh in the heat.

    SOTD = L’AP Safran Troublant

Woody Pudding™️ / Cuddlefluff™️ with 8 sprays ???? and my fingers may have been extra naughty today.

    Commuting Woes No. 604:

My commute consists of 3 rail segments. Inbound to the office, I usually get a seat for the first 2 segments while outbound going home, I’m lucky to get a seat in one of the segments. This morning, it was standing room only for the 3rd segment as usual and I got a good standing spot by the door as I get off at the 2nd stop and the door is on the opposite side of the doors that open at the first stop. Anyway, a guy walked in at the first stop, clutching what may have been a full Venti-sized coffee. He took a spot immediately behind me so I can see his reflection. If a guy can do something daintily, I would describe him as sipping daintily with the cup held at about a 70 degree angle. Based on this, I concluded that: 1) the contents were very hot and 2) the cup was still quite full. Throughout the 2-3 minutes between the stops, I was concerned that he would bump into me and spill the hot coffee all over me if the train lurched or if he scalded himself and dropped or flung the cup out of pain and surprise. Thank goodness none of these happened but I do have a vivid imagination!

Cuddle fluff is indeed a trademark worthy descriptor! I have been using it a lot in real life

Wearing some Yardley Iris tonight with some added sprays to my shirt. I don’t think this perfume was around the house back in the day but I do recall several Yardley soaps and bath products.

My bottles of Alien with the limited edition coloring arrived yesterday. They are beautiful. They both are different colors, one is a bit lighter blue up top as I can see the colors through the window at the top of the box. The other is a darker blue, almost navy up top. I haven’t opened them up as I’m not sure if I will keep both or possibly return one and get the bottle of Chanel No 5 oil instead!

Yes, I’m in Canada. I was a bit surprised that they were available. I didn’t hesitate too long to open up my wallet as they are limited edition. First time for bottle envy!
