Our community project for today: in honor of Pluto Demoted Day, wear a fragrance you used to obsess over, but don't care so much about anymore. If you can, tell us why you don't love it anymore. Thank you to Katrina for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I had a hard time with this one because I have given away my biggest contenders. I ended up with Houbigant Aperçu, a fragrance I bought because it was the closest thing to Guerlain Mitsouko that I found wearable. I was never really obsessed with it, but I probably thought I'd enjoy it more than I do, or that I'd grow into the style eventually. Nope. I probably wear it twice a year, and that's enough.
Reminder: on 8/31 we're doing Fabric Friday...wear a perfume named for some type of clothing or fabric, OR wear a scent you associate with a certain kind of clothing or fabric, OR wear a perfume with a fabric-related note (suede, cotton, etc). Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

TGIF! I tried my best to find a perfume to fit the CP, but I could not, at least not from my summer/spring perfumes that are the ones in rotation right now. I think that everything I have now I really love or like and enjoy. I usually put and give away what it doesn’t move my heart anymore.
Today, I am a walking “air freshener “, since many of you use it for that purpose. I am wearing The Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose, that despite the years and many beautiful rose scents, I still love for its simplicity and tenacity. I layered it with the new release of Bath & Body Works Rose body lotion and the combination is very pretty and a no-brainer.
I picked up a free travel size of Rose body lotion yesterday with a coupon that I had. The shower gel, lotion and even the fragance smell very nice. Pretty decent rose products from B&BW. They are selling fast. Just few were left at the store and I ckecked online and it is the same.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Have a great Friday everyone!
I have always loved Tea Rose. Don’t wear it because it was the signature scent of an administrator of mine ten years ago and I always associate it with her. BBW has some amazing body products at great prices…I always love popping in there.
You smell awesome today…wish I could sniff you -LOL!!!
Thank you! Coming closer so you can smell the Tea Rose! ????????
Mmmm….smellin’ good ????????????????
Love Tea Rose on a fresh Spring day.Happy Weekend!✌????
Happy weekend to you too my friend! ????????
Simple and pretty aren’t necessarily bad things in a perfume! ???????? Glad you are enjoying it. Have a good weekend!
Thank you! ???? You too enjoy the weekend!
My plan was to wear Bulgari Pour Homme but I cannot find it. I wore that for literally years. I honestly think the reason I stopped wearing it was that I met my husband, who wore it, too. It turned out we both had always had interests in perfume, and so down the rabbit hole we went.
Instead, I am wearing Mugler Chyprissime. I obsessed over this one but haven’t worn it because on me, it just doesn’t hold up to the extreme heat and humidity we have been having. Today is a high of 69 with rain, and it’s just perfect!
Not being able to find it at all is perfect!
incense pure because I needed some serenity and equanimity in my life this morning
I am sure you smell beautiful. Be well!
thank you my friend!
Good word choice, “equanimity.” I want some, too.
I am going to spritz you with some Incense Pure♥️♥️♥️
I don’t even know what that means or what you smell like, but I want some too!????
Webster’s dictionary ” evenness of temper, composure” … it’s a beautiful calming slightly sweet incense..I could probably wear it every day.
Sounds good to me!
Stealing your word,also.✌????☺️
LOL! Feel free!!! I am such a nerd in real life….always looking for new words that appeal to me…I also love the word “endeavor”…don’t know why but I love it…and “cerulean” (because I love the color blue!!!) I should have been a librarian!
Haha!We share another passion then!I love using the really long, beautiful words when I speak in Afrikaans as well.Cerulean Blue is BEAUTIFUL,both word and color. My favorite word has always been “gargantuan”.It says everything about anything enormous.Plus the g’s really sound AWESOME when you say it.Lol
LOVE your word!!! Especially because I am the opposite of it LOL ???? ???? But I like to think that I have a gargantuan ♥️
Are you looking to THUNK Incense Pure, then?
Oh no!!! But I have been craving it and I go with the flow ????
I am inadvertently playing today. I had actually planned on sitting this one out, but upon applying Dame Perfume’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla ( Hair oil and Body Cream) I found that it simply didn’t resonate with me any longer. There is a sharp, floral note that is overriding the rich vanilla I have always loved.
I hope it is merely a weather related change in perception – certainly not ready to abandon this (former) beauty yet.
I used the hair oil as a body oil and loved it. I hope the weather will indeed change your perspective.
I really like that one…maybe it will work again for you in the winter? You smell wonderful!
Anything vanilla is cool weather only for me – the sweetness of it overwhelms me if it’s even moderately warm.
Après L’Ondee here. It’s so pretty. And perfect for this slightly rainy day we are having. I can’t bear to part with it because it was my big souvenir from my first (and so far, only) trip to Paris….but I just don’t like it. Violets just aren’t my thing anymore. I kind of makes me sad but I have so many others to choose from that I don’t think too much about it.
Happy Friday everyone!
Is it at least in the pretty bee bottle? Maybe you can swap decants of it…
I have to agree with you.
A l’O s seems so pretty in theory but even good quality violet can give you such a headache!
I once had a vintage sample and it was so different from the new it seems like a completely different perfume. I love violets in real life so I bought a new bottle and it is nothing like what I expected. So like you, I was disappointed. I have found that with several violet scents. I must not smell/register whatever note chemist use to reproduce it.
That one is not for me, either. But I think it’s lovely to have perfumes that remind you of special memories/places.
You smell lovely. Do you keep your empty bottles? That could be your souvenir. I used to know someone who’d fill them with colored water before putting them back on display at home.
You smell great! This is my favorite Guerlain, but it lasts only an hour on me so I’ve never invested in a bottle.
I’m not participating in the CP today, but instead am hopping on the Assam of India hype train. This stuff is great, and I can easily see it becoming a summer go-to. If I still like it this much once my sample is gone, I’ll probably end up with a travel-size bottle.
Isn’t it awesome??? you smell amazing! my summer of 2016 was Assam for seven weeks straight 😉
I say get the full bottle because you can watch your row of elephants go down 🙂 AND spray with reckless abandonment!!!!
CM8, you are the foremost Assam of India evangelist!
Oh and I meant to tell you that I found chocolate marzipan bars at my new favorite grocery store and
1. I thought of you
2. They are every bit as delicious as I imagined they would be 🙂
Ha!!! Enabler pin for me on the chocolate marzipan!!! They really are delicious! I once ate four logs from Aldi’s in one sitting. I am glad that you had the opportunity to try it and glad that you enjoyed it!
Oh! Do share what grocery store this is!
kpaint – it’s Zagara’s Marketplace in Cleveland Heights
That stuff is great for summer (and the bottle is a keeper – those elephants are adorable!).
I got a bottle of AoI at Anthropologie’s post holiday clearance for dirt cheap. ($35!) I split a few decants but still have plenty left if you’d like a few mls….email me at pkwisdom in the yahooland if you’re interested!
Thank you for reminding me to try this! I just need to locate a sample to try somewhere before the summer is gone!!It sounds like a perfect tea scent.
Does this smell bitter/smoky? I don’t always like tea fragrances, but I do love Mediterraneo. If it’s citrus-y, I might really like it.
And I LOOOOVE the elephant bottle.
To me it’s very citrus and refreshing. If you love lemon you will like it. In the winter I get more of the sandalwood but not as much in the summer. I blind bought it with a gift certificate from my childhood friend of fifty years because her animal is the elephant. The bottle is definitely a keeper!!!????????????
Thx!!
It has a very nice citrusy opening and lately I have been getting incense, even though it is not listed as a note. I think it might be combination of tea and sandalwood. It is a beautiful and refreshing perfume and the bottle….. Let me know if you would like me to send you some 😉
I loooooveeee incense so I need to look for that note now!!? And I agree that there’s a lot more goin on in those Berdoues fragrances than the three notes list that the company provides
Please, let me know if you find the incense in Assam. I never got it before, but lately it has been there every time I try it.
I will wear it soon and report back ????
Assam of India is the perfect “iced tea with lemon” scent for me. I don’t get any bitter from it. YMMV, of course.
I totally agree with your assessment, Jalapeno
Vintage Habanita today to celebrate my 2nd Annual 39th Birthday. Carpe diem — life’s too short to not wear the good stuff.
Happy 39th (again!)…..I wholeheartedly agree…life is too short so spray away!!! and wear the good stuff!!!
Thank you! Now I need to go find me some Assam 🙂
????
Happy birthday!
Thank you!! 🙂
Happy birthday! ????????????????
Happy 2nd annual 39th birthday!!????
Happy birthday!
I celebrated about 6 of those 😉 Happy happy! (It doesn’t get any better, so stick with 39 🙂 )
Noooo don’t say that!!!!
Many happy returns of the day.
May you always smell as fabulous.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! And I’m in complete agreement about wearing the good stuff as life is too short not to. My husband and I say “life is too short to drink bad beer” as a general motto for being willing to spend a little more on great experiences.
HARD AGREE! Thank you. 🙂
A friend recently asked for advice on a cruise vacation. He mentioned that the cost of a non-stop flight was “a lot” more than another with a stop-over. I asked how much more and he said 10% more. I said is the difference worth the inconvenience? Answer, no. I said he needs to set a budget then weigh his options based on the fact that he had never done this type of vacation with his family before.
Happy birthday !!
Happy Birthday!
Haha!Happy Birthday!I turned 39 for the third time this year…*complete denial of aging*????????♂️☺️✌????
LOLOL Sitting right down next to you, handing you a big ol’ spork to eat some cake.
To denial!
????To denial my young friend!✌????☺️????
Happy birthday!!
Happy Scented Birthday! ????????
Happy birthday!
First of all, kudos to Katrina for coming up with such a clever tie-in to Pluto Demoted Day. I absolutely love this theme!
I am wearing Ormonde Jayne Champaca, which for a while I thought I preferred to Woman. Something within me must have known it was not true love, for I got a decant of this and an FB of Woman and now feel sure I made the right choice. Champaca is awfully pretty, though, even if it’s no longer an obsession.
Yes, I think this has been my favourite project yet.
I could’ve worn Champaca today which I was totally obsessed with when I first smelled it. I still like it, but am not drawn to it the way I was. Glad I only got the travel spray.
My CP contender is Rosine’s Une Zeste de Rose…their citrus rose. Although it would have been more appropriate a few years back, since I like it better now and that that like is increasing… I should wear this more often.
I obsessed over this scent for well over a year. Tried it in Aedes, but I was in no position to spend $$$ on a scent. Very quickly after my situation changed, I ordered a bottle. And ended up disappointed. Something didn’t sit well. So, the bottle sat…rarely used. At one point I figured out I liked it when I layered it with Aliage, so I wore the two together sometimes.
Very much enjoying it today.
I’ve been hemming and hawing over a few Rosines for years. If they were more readily available (aka at discounters) I’d probably have bought a few. I never really enjoyed Zeste until I mixed it into some oil and wore it post-shower. I loved it worn that way more than as a perfume.
Wonder where my sample of Un Zeste is hiding?
Hi Everyone,
I’m back and jetlagged to bits, but wanted to play along today. I’m in Crabtree & Evelyn’s Jasmine de Provence. I was really obsessed with finding the *right and perfect* jasmine for a long time, the one that smelled *just like* the jasmine I smelled when I travelled to Spain. This was it! I wore it for years and loved it…
But then, I started turning towards other things. I didn’t wear my jasmine going-out scent as often. It gradually fell by the wayside.
While I always have good associations with it, I still have about half a bottle left, and it could well last me the rest of my life.
Hmm, interesting! You make me want to try this!
Annnnd nevermind – hold on to that bottle, it is worth its discontinued weight in gold. C&E is having a heck of a sale right now though, if anybody is interested!
I’m continuing to use up samples. Today is Nocturnes edt. Unless I put my nose to my arm, I am not smelling this. Instead, what I am smelling is the Rose Jam shower gel I used this morning. I really want the fragrance version of this.
How interesting — I never notice Rose Jam that long!
I was lemming the fragrance for awhile, then I decided it would probably be too sweet for me. But betcha I’d buy it if I saw it cheap 🙂
The body spray is really potent. But also like you said,VERY sweet!Light sprays
Yeah…I think the same thing holds with their jasmine. I like Flying Fox shower gel but Lust is just too sweet to wear as a perfume.
Not playing along today. Instead, wearing a scent that always works for me: De Profundis, as I sit in the hospital waiting for my husband’s surgery to begin. We had to be here at 6:30am, yawn! Be well, all.
Hope that everything goes absolutely swimmingly with the surgery, with the smoothest possible recovery. Best to you both.
???????? No complications, fast recuperation for your husband, pixel. ????????
Best wishes for a successful surgery!
Good luck with everythng!!!
Wishing a successful surgery and speedy recovery to your husband.
Best wishes for success and speedy recovery! And enjoy that scent!
Hope all goes well!
Hope all is going well for your husband and yourself.
Sending healing vibes to your hubby!
Ugh. Not a fun day for anyone. Hope things go well and recovery is swift. I can’t believe how long this all took – awful!
Good luck to the hubs!
Hoping all goes well!
Best wishes for surgery & recovery <3
Good thoughts, sent your way
Best wishes to your husband.
I hope it all goes well and you are able to rest and recuperate afterwards. Good luck with the recovery and healing. Don’t wear yourself out taking up the slack ,trying to do everything
Hope it all goes fine!*Hugs*
Best wishes from another recovering orthopedic patient! I don’t know if he’ll have to stay overnight, but I can tell you that hospital food has gone way up from what it used to be, at least where I was. They had offerings of nice salads, fruit plates, and made-to-your specifications pasta and pizza dishes. One bright spot, along with many genuinely caring nurses and PA’s.
Good to hear the Nursing was on par!How are you doing post-op Calypso?
X
Hope it went well!
Hope the surgery went well. And try to remember to take care of yourself!
Good luck with your husband’s surgery and recovery! And take time for self care too during all the crazy.
I hope it went well, pixel!
My obsessions usually have to do with finding vintage formulations of things, or the ever-elusive bottle of Iroaz (which I’m beginning to believe never actually existed at all). My choice for today’s theme is Tabac Blond in a vintage EDT formulation that STC used to have. Partial bottles are still out there, but because it was sold as a splash I don’t trust that the bottles on resellers’ sites haven’t been watered or otherwise tampered with. I spent a couple of years trying to find more of this, but then …. along came Vol de Nuit extrait, and my Tabac Blond obsession went poof. I still love it, but am now happy to enjoy what little I have left and move on to new obsessions (MDCI Promesse de l’Aube, I’m looking at you!). Happy Friday, everyone.
☕☕☕????????????????????????
No CP, introspection is more a cold weather thAng for me. ????
????Miss Dior (1947) EDT mid-90s bottle. Green, animalic, and floral. Galbanum, castoreum, oakmoss, gardenia, leather. ????????????
Got a “You smell GOOD ” @ the Acme with PHI yesterday. ????
Kinda doubt Miss Dior will be an unsolicited compliment getter! ! LOLOLOL ????????????????????????
I would compliment you if I smelled you Bear 🙂
Thanks CM8! ????
Check the source of your 22 decant, if you have the Exclusifs EDP, I haven’t smelled that version. ????????????????
Ah!!! Maybe that’s it!!!! mystery solved??? The old vintage cologne from what I read had a lot more frankincense in it…however, the pure perfume from the 1990s seemed sweeter to me also. But like I said in my other comment my nose is wonky AND my skin tends to amp up sweet notes…so ymmv…..
and I thunked that decant a while ago-LOL!!
Would definitely throw some compliments to you rocking Miss Dior! Green fierceness. 🙂
???????????????????????????????????????????????????? Happy recurring 39th, Chris Rusak ! ????????
RAWR! Thank you, Bear. 🙂
It’s always so much more fun to read your comments on my phone versus the computer which shows emojis as boxes????
However leaving comments on my phone is a pita because it changes the names of perfumes ????????????
????????????????????There are more emojis on my computer than the phone, but you have to toggle back and forth to insert them.
We need emoji regulations! !!!!???????????????? JK ????????????????????????
My computer is old and all the emojis show up as empty squares except for your coffees-LOL! and the faces but they don’t look the same as on my phone.
Oh wait I take that back…I see Johanob’s peace sign and heart below but they are in black and white!
I would have sniffed you up close yesterday Bear!????????♂️????????♂️
Happy Weekend????????????✌????❤️
???? Thank you Johano! I hope your weekend is enjoyable! ✌????????????????
I have two candidates for today: Ormonde Jayne Tsarina and Hermes Twilly. Very excited about both when I first got them, but the love has gone for now. Hopefully someday I’ll feel more positive, or I’ll get rid of them. Wearing Tsarina this morning, will put on some Twilly later.
Juuust finally got my hands on a sample of Twilly and might join you in that try-out later this evening, too. Not blown away by it yet, and don’t understand the LT/TS five stars yet, either.
5 stars? Really? That stuff smelled godawful on me, but it was ME, not the perfume so I really have no idea what it’s supposed to smell like…
Yeah. I think I’m in agreement with them about 80% of the time, but I’m still mystified with Twilly. First time I smelled it in the store, I didn’t even give it a thought. We’ll see! Skin changes everything.
Huh. It smelled terribly meh to me. I’m surprised it elicits strong opinions in either direction, really.
I sampled Twilly at the airport. It smelled exactly like a very popular 90s teens fragrance Naf Naf. Nice and forgettable.
Naf Naf came in a pacifier-shaped bottle, too, which was rather amusing. Perhaps Twilly is a subliminal nod to funny bottles?
Ginger is a tough note for me. Twilly was a scrubber on me. It almost made me insane. That said, I think it smelled good, I just couldn’t wear it.
They gave Twilly 5 stars…wow.
We have similar taste, cazaubon. Please give your impression of Twilly later.
Unnamed perfume critic gave high marks, but it appears divisive for such an innocuous bottle. TIA ????????
Twilly is, for me, pleasant – I get more tuberose now than I did when I first got it. I wanted that little bottle…. it’s in my easy-going, no-brainer category of scents….
Nothing wrong with a no-brainer.
Ginger is one of the notes I’ve read (ginger, Tuberose, sandalwood) , and that gives me pause.
One drop too many, on my skin, becomes a GIANT bar of soap.
The uber popular YSL L’HOMME and flankers all smell super-duper clean on me.
But it ain’t my thang…not my thang. ????????????????????
So I gave myself a good dousing of Twilly, and I’m enjoying it. I’m getting the tuberose, ginger and sandalwood, not a weird synthetic twang I got the last time I wore it. I’m going to keep it.
Maybe Twilly is a scent that requires the Hajusuuri method of application? ????
Yep, Go Big or Go Home!
????????????????✌???? Thanks, seems like the ultimate YMMV perfume !!
I have only sampled the Twilly, and found it – well just nice.
Tsarina now, I love that one still, especially in the breathlessly cold winters
Twilly was a meh on me and GLOOOOOOOORIOUS(!!!!!) on a friend of mine.Typical.Have a good week!✌????
WeekEND.WEEKENDDD….lol.????????♂️????☺️
Ha!! Typical.. isn’t that the way?
I didn’t think I could play along, but then I remembered my 2005 love affair with PdN Sacrebleu. Alas, what I loved back then is just too much berry and fruit for me now. Pretty amazing that my decant is still holding up though.
I don’t know Sacrebleu but I no longer like berry perfumes that I once wore…scents like Blackbird, or Pomegranete Noir. They seem to capture the flavour hit of a fruit drink rather than the nuance of the real thing…they lack that subtle earthy warmth of ripe fruit/ berries. Same problem with pine and cedar which is simplified to air freshner/ symbolic of real scent
I sometimes like to pick fights with the Pluto-demoters, and argue that Charon, Ceres, Eris, Quaoar, and Sedna are planets too. So, as a contrary thought I”m wearing a shapeshifter scent that I love a little more each time I wear it: MEM.
I love your way of thinking…and as I said on Australian Perfume Junkies I also LOVE your new avatar 🙂
🙂 thanks, CM8!
You can usually count on me to be in the awkward squad…
MEM sounds perfect for a science-based rochambeau.
“rochambeau” is a truly glorious word. Thank you. I had not met it before.
Aha, maybe that’s the seed of another project: promote a fragrance that you think is just as good as something else that gets more props?
Ha, but obviously I need to think through the wording — not even sure that makes sense to anyone but me.
Sure does!
Makes sense to me! Sounds like a “sleeper” or “underdog” scent.
Oh, nice idea and yes it does make sense. The ones that slip through the net–you might love them madly and think they should get bumped up from asteroid to planet status in the perfume universe but they generally get very little attention.
Makes sense to me
I am wearing Guerlain Insolence and drinking a cup of English breakfast tea.
Guerlain Insolence is really still a love for me, although I don’t wear it as much as I used to. It is part of my perfume timeline:
1. EL Private Collection, Lancome Magie Noir, Liz Claiborne for my teens and early twenties.
2. TM Angel for my early thirties.
3. YSL Paris, Guerlain Insolence for late thirties and early forties.
4. Then it (my perfumes) became a free for all !!
I think it was Paris and Insolence that lead me down the rabbit hole.
I can remember that Liz Claiborne triangular bottle. I think they still make it!?
I just saw it at the drug store the other day.
Blue, yellow and red, IIRC.
I thought about wearing Paris today but I still love it. One of my early obsessions as a teen. I bought a mini in my 30s, replaced it, then finally bought a bottle a few years ago.
Paris is great. Antidepressant in a bottle!
Fun idea for a CP, but I’m afraid I’m failing at it because any perfumes that I don’t care for anymore have either gone for sale on the bay or been given away in the freebiemeet….so, I’m in Lea.
A perfume I obsessed over finding after it had been sadly discontinued and finally found. Still enjoy it immensely.????
We are due for more rain today, which we do not need! We had a record breaking rain Monday night that brought about 12 inches of rain in an hour. Roads, businesses and homes got flooded. My husband and teenager got stranded in said storm about a mile from home and rode it out in the shelter of a parking garage. The water in the streets was waist deep! I’m so glad they were together and finally made it home safely.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
wow! glad everyone in your family was safe!
Thanks! Me too! It was a bit nerve wracking.????
The West Coast will happily accept all of your surplus rain. Glad to hear everyone arrived safely.
We would have gladly given you some. Too bad Mother Nature doesn’t work that way, right?????
Ugh, truly — except I think it’s human nature failing to yield to Mother Nature that’s pissing her off!
Glad they are safe! That was an amazing storm. Read about the people who took cover in the Costco.
Yes! They had to sleep at Costco overnight!
That is a little farther out from us. We live near Whole Foods and the entire store was flooded and has been closed since the storm. The parking lot is filled with what looks like most of the store, I feel terrible for people hardest hit.????The surrounding lakes have been gradually rising and more and more streets are being shut down.
0_0 Glad your family made it through. Scary!
That’s a crazy amount of rain. So happy to hear your loved ones are safe.
Glad you’re all safe!✌????
That is so scary. I’m glad they stayed safe.
Egads! Glad to hear that your loved ones are safe and sound after all that!
I had to think for a moment to see what would fit today’s project. There are a few that I could have chosen but I went with Courtesan. In the start of my perfume journey, I couldn’t find Courtesan sold in the States except for TPC in decant form and drained decant after decant. Then Courtesan was sold in the U.S. and bought 2 bottles. Now, I don’t wear it as much as I used to. I used to love it but now it’s just a like.
Drat, sorry!
Hello everyone,
Thank you for your warm welcome last week.
My choice for this is Tom Ford Black Orchid.
I find it too sugary now.
Years ago, however, when I was fairly new in my first
proper job I used to walk past this boutique which had a display of Tom Ford Black Orchid surrounded by orchids.
It came to epitomize success and a film noir-ish glamour to me.
Needless to say I felt very sophisticated when I finally bought it!
I had the Voile and even that was Too Much. I gave the bottle to a friend as it smelled better on her, but she doesn’t wear perfume that often. At least her dresser is Glamorous.
Oh gosh yes it is still great looking!
I quite like the voile but I don’t think I love anything of his anymore to buy again especially as he’s on the pricey side.
Great choice – I could have gone with this one as well. I love it but find it so heavy (on both myself and others) that I now treat it almost as a nuclear substance.
A lot of TF falls into the “nuclear substance” category. As someone who grew up in the era of Giorgio, Poison, and Obsession, and still loves that genre, I’ve never understood why I’m not drawn to his brand. Instead, I’m put off. Don’t really know why.
Yes it got me into oriental perfumes so I owe it that but subtle it is not!
That is really amazing, how differently people can experience the same fragrance. I’d never call TF Black Orchid sweet. On me it is bone dry and leans masculine. No flowers there, either.
I get the same as you from it.
Wearing Kenzo Flower Oriental. The Flower line had never interested me, so I hadn’t had many expectations when I was given a sample. To my surprise it seemed that I’d finally found a perfect summer oriental and so bought a discounted bottle. Things seemed to go well with it the first summer, so I went back to Fragrancenet to buy a back-up bottle, because it both discontinued and a great deal.
Alas, it would seem that even if it’s gauzy I just don’t usually wear orientals in the summer (come to think of it, not that often in the winter either). Perhaps I have now learned my lesson about waiting to by a second, non-backup bottle. There is no way I can Use It Up as it’s still over half full…
I too bought it on discount (I think because Robin liked it?) and wore it happily for a while but ended up swapping away my bottle. It is just too tall to keep if you don’t love it!
Srsly, the bottles are a PITA. Mine sits out permanently.
Yes, it is on the tippy side, isn’t it?
Mine’s in a box, so that’s not an issue. It’s that it’s too tall to fit anywhere else.
This might be another sync idea awkward bottle sync – the too tall ,hard to hold , where’s the sprayer on this thing? Also the weirdly shaped and is that a bottle cap or a doorknob? Bottles.
Wearing L’Heure Convoitee. I wanted it so much 6or 7 years ago but I eventually got tired of it as my tastes changed. Also, I’ve acquired A LOT more perfume in the intervening years so everything gets worn less
Yes to your last sentence. This CP has made me realize how much good stuff I still have that I bought years ago but almost never wear. I’d like to work on wearing more of those old loves.
Today I finished my decant of Iris Silver Mist. I was so obsessed with this in 2003-2004ish times – it was beautiful, and so hard to get! How would I find a trustworthy person willing to bring it from Paris, and how on Earth would I afford a bell jar?
Well, it’s 2018, and I can afford bell jars now but I’ve just never bothered. A few reasons: it is very beautiful, but it’s not comfortable and I feel like I’m playing dress up when I wear it. The difficulty to obtain lost its charm and just became a big annoyance. And when I realized that a bell jar is a splash, not a spray, that was the final straw. I’m too clumsy for that kind of vessel!
Why do they may splash jars? It seems all around less desirable.
Although if you have a pipette or wee funnel it does make decanting easier…
Plus, I keep hearing it is not the same at all. So by the time it was easier to get, I figured I’d rather not smell a crappier version of it anyway.
On my way to upstate New York to visit a friend for a few days. My secret agenda is to convince her to make her spread into an informal artist colony.
Maybe you dimly remember how obsessed I was with parfum sacre a few years ago. I think I tried every formulation and now have an issue with what smells like a bread yeast note on my skin so haven’t worn it in awhile.. I will retry it and see if the old magic comes back.
SOTD JM Red Roses to shield me from the Macdonalds smells on the greyhound
Oof, I get that yeasty bread note in some perfumes and do not like it at all. (Lipstick Rose is one that I recall.)
Best to you with your Greyhound trip ???? Brave!
Yep that’s exactly what I didn’t like about LR
You smell great in Red Roses! ????⚘
Parfum Sacre was voted off the island a year ago (I think).
Looking for my bottle of ELDO Like This. When it first came out a while back, I decided that it was full bottle worthy and I wore it almost every day for quite some time. I still enjoy it, but not like I used to because I just wore it too much. There isn’t much left in the bottle, but I am not trying to use it up because I do want to put it on from time to time. (No Thunk for this one).
I seem to only want to wear this when it is cooler out.
Iris Poudre which I loved at first is now relegated to my second tier iris list. I hadn’t worn it in a long time and I am enjoying it today but it doesn’t ring my bells the way my first tier iris’s do. Belle Rive, Athalia, VCA Bois Iris, Iris Silver Mist, all win out over it today.
I think Pluto has handled his demotion with grace and equanimity. There may be a lesson there for me.
SOTD has nothing to do with CP, sadly. But I smell fabulous in BF Au Dela Narcisse.
I need to get my van emptied and cleaned to prepare for the makeover, but can never get a parking spot near my apartment. Today I got up, looked out the window, saw an empty space, ZOOMED out to move my van (without my contacts in ????), and by the time I got back, someone was just pulling into MY spot!!
Grrr! Feels like a Monday. .
????☹????
That’s annoying. I’d be cursing to myself (a lot!) in that situation.
You smell fabulous indeed!
In Montreal, people set out two chairs with a string tied between them and a sign on it that says MOVING to block a parking space in front of their apartment the night before. Maybe try that?
I’m in Ylang 49 today! I thought I’d be finishing off my sample, but that scent packs a punch, so I have at least another use in it. So…not participating in the CP. I’ve never been obsessed with it; I have merely enjoyed it, and I still do!
Yesterday’s perfume adventures with my friend were kind of a bust. Turns out the fancy shops (Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, and Hermes) all close at EIGHT because SUBURBIA. Sephora is undergoing renovations (they were supposed to be complete by 18 Aug, but there you have it), and so the only perfume place open until 9 was Macy’s, which has almost nothing interesting. Nonetheless, we went through some Chloes, Tom Fords, Narcisos (“what is the difference between all these similarly named scents? are these the same?” “I don’t think so, and I have no idea; nobody does”), and others. I think her current favorite is Chloe Love Story, followed by Chloe Nomade (which I also liked!). I also got to sniff Dior Joy, which was…fine.
Anyway, we’ll have to have another perfume expedition in the near future, probably on a weekend, when we can spend more time at shops that are open.
Well, it’s possibly a good thing that you started with ‘mall fragrances’, as she will have a frame of reference from which to appreciate the really good juice when she has a chance to experience it!
I guess I’m a glass half full person today.
But a very good point nonetheless!
That’s a great way of looking at it 🙂
People everywhere seem to be unimpressed by Dior Joy.
I’m sure it’ll sell great though!
I love Ylang and think you smell beautiful!
Sorry about the shopping bust, but sounds like your friend found new things to like, so maybe less of a bust ?
That’s a really good point, and really speaks to how spoiled I am that I saw about 100 perfume bottles and thought, “Pfft, this place has nothing!” Mostly I think I was disappointed about how many shops were closed. But I will think about it in the way you suggested 🙂
Argh, too bad that your sniffing expedition was cut short! I hope you both have better luck next time. Thanks for the mention on Chloe Nomade; I picked up a sample of that recently just for grins. Nice to know it’s worth a sniff.
Let me know what you think of it! I hope you like it!
I’m in Nectarine Blossom & Honey, layered with English Pear & Jasmine. I liked NB&H when I bought it, but I rarely wear it now. I must have liked it at some point, as the bottle is over half gone!
I’ve been busy this week. Belated deep thanks to a generous NSTer who sent me a bit of the pre-reform Tea For Two. I wore it yesterday, and it was lovely and very sadly thunked. 🙂
Congrats on the thunk!
Thanks! I really enjoyed it. ????
No CP today, I haven’t been truly obsessed with anything in the handful of years I have been wearing perfume daily. Today it’s Dame Bergamot Jasmine & Labdanum, nice, but not FB-worthy for me.
The youngest Marzipan loves that Dame. At times his room reeks of it.
But better a Dame perfume than the dreaded “Axe”!
I thought I’d have a lot of contenders, but like some others, I’ve weeded and whittled down my collection so much that I’m down to pretty much what I love and some I’m still getting to know.
I spent the morning doing the opposite of the project wearing Bronze Goddess. I got a sample some years ago, thought I liked it, bought a rollerball, then decided it made me uncomfortable. I’ve been drawn to it this summer and wearing it quite a bit and it seems to meld with my skin better now so that I can truly enjoy it. The ball in the rollerball’s going to get popped off today so I can pour some into my post-shower oil concoction.
Anyway, I remembered later in the morning which perfume first came to mind with this project, and that’s what I’m wearing now – Bottega Veneta Eau Légère. I fell in love with it when I first fell down the rabbit hole and wore it a ton one summer. But since then, I’m just not drawn to it. Wearing it today I’ve been going back and forth between enjoying it and not so much. I never bought a bottle, just a large decant, so at least there’s that…
I saw your question about BF Fontevraud late last night. I described it before as “Calyx Noire”. Prominent overripe tropical fruit, some incense, labdanum, rose (not prominent to me), and oakmoss which is noticeable, but not screaming (I think you don’t like oakmoss?)
Thank you! You are correct 🙂 Also not a fan of Calyx, so I will pass. *$ saved*
Shalimar EDP. I used to get the smoke and the lemon and the rotten squirrel and love it. Lately though it’s been a dull lemony vanilla amber. And I reaaaally do not care for vanilla (or lemon, go figure). It’s too thick and foody, like sticking cotton wool up my nostrils.
I’ve a few contenders that provoke a love-hate reaction, but for ‘meh’ Shali shall do.
I find that with Shalimar, my favorite is the last bottle I bought. I get obsessed, then move on to the next. Which just might mean I have a lot more bottles to buy 😉
I often wonder if the smoky top note has worn off? Has my bottle turned? I bought it new in 2015 so it would be of the ‘good’ new stock. I still have about 5mls left so I’m sure to grudgingly finish Shali off.
Weather/temperature certainly plays a part too. I find Shalimar a LOT duller in winter when I can’t detect the nuances. It’s just flat.
But yeah, I got what you meant. It’s Friday, I’m slow.
Rotten squirrel?? First time I’ve heard that one, LOL!
Sotd: TF Noir de Noir
My riff on the cp- I love you so very much, why don’t I wear you more often??
One of my favorites. I think you smell heavenly!
Thank you!
Happy Friday!
1) I don’t have an old and busted list per se; but I used to totally obsessed with ‘leather’ and ‘tobacco’ scents. I still love them, but I am now totally an Oriental* and Chypre scent kind of person as it turns out. I am wearing Voyage d’ Tabac from West Third Brand, which gives off a lovely vanilla/tobacco/leather vibe.
2) It’s much cooler today, so my scent feels perfect!
3) End stage capitalism: So I went to look at very large mansion on sale in Portland- only $865K! Why on Earth? I thought with the size I could sub divide into discrete apartments, which would flow from a common area. So it would be a a way to live in a mansion and afford it…
After writing out the business plan and looking at fees for architects, loans and such, I decided that selling tamales from my bike was a less stressful and more profitable way to have more income.
Please sell your tamales in my neighborhood! (I harbored a fantasy about running a mobile taco-margarita truck for years. Like the ice cream man, but playing “Tequila” and firing up the blender upon stopping.)
1) Reminds me that the other perfume I was going to wear today was Cuir de Russie. I was obsessed with leather perfumes when I first tripped down the hole but can’t muster much interest in them anymore. (Hermes leathers being the exception.) Cuir de Russie in particular, I was OBSESSED with. Then I bought a bottle, and thought, “huh.”
I’m obsessed with Cuir de Russie! Sounds like I better never upgrade from my decant 😉
Once you have a big ole bottle, you really do have to commit to wearing it…and leather scents are very assertive, in a good way, but assertive!
I really love Cuir de Russie BUT I do prefer Lancome’s Cuir way more. And the Hermes leather scents are light and perfect and suit anyone.
Tamales, hot pot of posole, iced chichas of rice, chocolate and cinnamon…I would just have a bike trailer and sell refreshments on Saturdays! 🙂
I really hate to say this but for someone from around these parts that sounds like a bargain. I live in real estate fantasy land.
*whispers* I bought a townhome 2 years ago for $215K, and i am so blissfully happy that I did. My friends keep telling me I got the last bargain in Portland, OR and I believe them!
I cannot imagine buying a SFD in SF for under a million.
Ha! Yeah, I also thought it was a bargain. A town house here would be 1-2 million. At least.
Have you already left your employer!
I meant this as a question…
No I have not! I have several weeks yet, plus I am on a database migration team, so I do want to see that to completion.
I’m wearing Apres l’Ondee today for the first time in a very long time. Regretfully I have demoted this entire house. I was entranced with the stories and history associated with Guerlain but after too many lemmings (this, l’Heure Bleue, Shalimar, even LPRN) that sit sadly neglected at the very back of my cupboard, I see that they just don’t work for me.
I do believe Mr. Hiram Green has swept you off your feet instead…
I lose my obsession for just about everything as soon as it becomes familiar, but that doesn’t mean I’ve lost my enjoyment wearing them.
Like a bunch here, I don’t hold on to things I don’t like for long and won’t wear them, even for a CP.
SOTD is Suleko Djelem which I looooved when I first smelled it. I haven’t worn it in ages so wore just a bit today since it’s a little warm for it for me today (though it’s the one representing summer in the collection) but I’m catching little wafts and it’s still lovely.
That’s how I am about many of my purchases–jewelry, clothes, perfume–obsessive desire and then boredom (to an extent). At least you still get pleasure from them! I do too but always want the new. (Not good for relationships either.) I’ve never heard of your SOTD and now must look it up! (I just did–now THAT is an amazing bottle!)
My general rule is: if I haven’t worn it (perfume, clothing, shoes) in 2 years, it gets evicted. I rarely miss or regret anything I’ve given away. I also enjoy novelty which is much of the appeal for me in sampling.
Yeah, probably not a good practice for relationships, lol. That’s actually one area where I enjoy familiarity over novelty.
Djelem is lovely. It’s kind of herbal-tangy on a pillowy bed of lightly sweet powder that smells a little ambery/vanillic. The notes aren’t how it smells to me. Yes, that bottle! I didn’t buy that one. I got the refillable travel atomizer with a textured porcelain cap.
I may use the 2 year rule for the great purge next week.
I get crazed wanting to sample more. But this week I pulled out an old favorite, Eau de Givenchy, and realized how much I preferred it to most all my perfume one-night stands.
I like sampling but so many are missed that I don’t buy loads anymore.
It’s nice to have an old steady, though!
I looked all week and couldn’t find just the right scent for today until this morning when I happened upon my travel spray of Bond No 9 Brooklyn. A mission that sent me down a rabbit hole years back was to find a perfume that smelled like Crabtree and Evelyn Gardener’s Hand Cream. I was obsessed with the smell of that hand cream and had been for years. I could never seem to find a perfume that came close to smelling like it until I got a free promotional Brooklyn mini in the mail. It’s more masculine than the hand cream but has the same herbal character but with an added woodiness.
While I don’t wear it much these days, it satisfied my obsession back in the day and I appreciate it for that.
Now after Regina mentioned the great sale at C&E, I see they now have a Gardener’s Body Wash! SCORE. It seems they barely make any perfumes these days, but oh, I’d be so happy if they turned that one into a perfume.
The C&E at the mall closest to me closed 2 years ago ☹️
Back in the ’00s I went through a whole bottle of DK Gold and I was excited to pick up another one in the swapmeet a year or two ago. However, I’ve been unable to love it as much as I used to. I still think it’s nicely done and am enjoying it today, but will probably wind up giving my bottle to my mom.
I’d been planning on breaking my no-buy and grabbing a small bottle of Trefle Pur at the Sephora sale today, but they only have the 100ml bottle in stock. Boo.
What? There’s a Sephora sale?
I didn’t have anything that fit the theme (I tend to give fragrances to a fellow obsessed friend if they do nothing for me, and vice versa), so today I chose Bath and Body Works Vanilla Musk. I have had this bottle for at least 20 years (received it in a gift set) and it still smells as good as the day I got it! I wonder if that has anything to do with the bottle, which is aluminum and, of course, completely opaque.
That is amazing!
I have a few contenders today but I think it will be Serge Lutens Bois de Violette. When I bought it in Las Vegas I remember it sitting on the hotel dresser like a jackpot prize. I haven’t reached for it in a long time. Maybe it’s the weather!
I had a great time that night in Barney’s with the very attentive sales associate, she was so much fun. Violet was one of my holy grails and I still like it in certain things. Maybe wearing it again will re-ignite my violet love.
I feel the same way about BDV. Used to love it.
SotD = La Chasse aux Papillons
I still adore La Chasse, but it’s not an obsession anymore. Some days it’s the perfect garden of honeysuckle flowers with a light wash of green. Other days there’s a perfume-y sweetness that’s a big ol’ NOPE. I blame variable skin chemistry.
Oh, well. Today it smells wonderful. Happy Friday to everyone!
Oh, inconsistent perfumes drive me NUTS!! I can’t stand that at all!
Oh – good one, Tiffanie. I have a hard time wearing La Chasse as well anymore, for the same reasons. But it was an early love.
I bought a sample of Roma Imperiale by Profumi del Forte from Notino a few years ago. I loved the sample so I bought a bottle, also from Notino. I think it’s baffling that my bottle doesn’t smell nearly as good as the sample which came from the same vendor? I know there are many reasons but it bugs me. So I don’t like my bottle as much as I could have. It’s languishing in my perfume cabinet. ????
Maybe your sample came from a different batch than your bottle did? If one perfume was made at a different time than the other, that might explain differences in how they smell.
Yes, I agree but what bothers me is that I wouldn’t have ordered the bottle if I had known it was different than the sample.
Ah, I get it now.
I’m testing new fragrances today because it’s my day off. But I found the project useful getting ready for swaps and freebies!
Faded loves are Bel Respiro EDT (strong like) and Fresh Cannabis Rose (dislike). In the first case, it was rival greens overtaking it and the nuisance of procuring more; the second was ruined by reformulation.
My husband and I have been trying to have a date night every Friday. Last week was Crazy Rich Asians and the week before was mini golf. Tonight I think we’ll hit some art galleries…
Sounds like fun Friday’s with your husband!
Oooh, what did you think of Crazy Rich Asians. Have you read the book(s)?
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
Before anybody falls off their chair, I am NOT participating in the CP. Cuir Beluga is firmly entrenched in my Top 5. I wanted to take advantage of the cooler temps before the weather goes to pot again next week. Mother Nature is such a tease!
On my way out of Chipotle, I pushed open a door. Before I was barely halfway out, this guy tried to squeeze in. WTF! Ummm, I had no choice but to bump him with my purse!
If you want to see a cross section of life, just grab a drink and sit in a Starbucks Cafe in the early evening:
– Guy with headphones talking to himself
– A recruiter or hiring manager meeting with a candidate and extending a job offer
– A justice of the peace handing out paperwork for a couple to sign, taking a picture to commemorate the signing AND asking me to take a picture of her either couple and the another with all 3 plus the 2 witnesses
Has anyone here done the Camino Walk from Orvieto to Rome? My sister and a friend of hers and possibly my nephew may do it. I am also interested. It involves walking about 10-12 miles per day on uneven and hilly paths. It’s scheduled for May 2019 and if I decide to do it, I will need to train and also make sure I break in the shoes I intend to wear.
Its so cool that you were part of that couple’s special day!
It was and they can tell their children they got married at a Starbucks!
Cuir Beluga is really wonderful. It’s a comfort scent to me,especially like to wear it to bed in Winter.
It is absolutely a comfort scent for me too.
I have not done the Camino Walk, but I think you should totally do it and reward yourself accordingly! You will NOT regret it????????♀️
The walk or the reward? haha! I am seriously thinking about it!
You should do both! 🙂
This is a biggie. I may “need” an Apple Watch to help me train for this. I will wait to see how much better the Series 4 is when it comes out in September. AI kind of like the Hermes ones but they are $$$$.
Cuir Beluga is a beauty and I wore it last night. I wish it stayed around for a longer time
Go big or go home ????. If I’m home practically all day, I won’t go big so it flies under the radar.
I nearly fainted when you mentioned Cuir Beluga, glad to hear you are still loving it. 🙂
But getting married at Starbucks? That would be one of the least romantic places for me, even less than city hall where I got married.
Heh, this is why I put the disclaimer ????.
I agree that Starbucks is not romantic. The JOTP mentioned something to the effect of it took a lot to get to this point and the least they could do was have a photographic remembrance.
I’m glad you posted a disclaimer about your SOTD, since I definitely did a double take when I read it! Quite the day you had in your comings and goings… I don’t ever remember seeing you mention a wedding before.
Ha! And I was a perfect stranger.
The last “wedding” was my niece’s wedding reception in August 2016 (she had a very small destination wedding in Hawaii the previous October). She is now preggers, due in January!
A cousin’s daughter is engaged although I don’t know the wedding date. I assume we’ll get invited but we do tend to smother given our sheer number.
Congrats on the new addition to your niece’s family! I guess I should clarify that I didn’t ever recall seeing you post about weddings in your “slice of life”/commuting stories.
Thanks! And I got what you meant. Sadly, we have had more funerals than weddings in the past 5 years!
Back in Lonesome Rider today. It’s the only one I have that really fits the community project. I actually do still like it, but nowhere near as obsessively as I did previously.
Fun day of work. A baby shower for a coworker and then decorating another co-worker’s office. He took the day off and is getting married tomorrow, so we want to decorate his office for him to come back to next week haha.
I picture you in Lonesome Rider in THAT(!!!) Delorean on your way back to the future…or Mars with me!Haha! We can take Tony along as well…haha!✌????????????♂️☺️❤️
Sotd is Oriental Express. I thought since I’ve been trying other fancier irises, that I didn’t love it any more. Well, I was wrong. Still love it! Still on the list. I’m very happy with the way I smell today. Lol ????
I like that one too. A generous NSTer sent me some and I thunked it in a week LOL ???? ????
I’ve got about one ml left before it’s thunked, but I’m not looking forward to it.
How is the iris in Oriental Express?
If you read Robin’s review, I think it’s spot on. If I had any complaints, it would be that it doesn’t project much. Except I don’t really think it needs to.
I just read the review and it sounds very nice! However, I am so glad is not easily found, because otherwise I will be in troble????. Lemming killed!
You smell fantastic, I looooove Oriental Express.
Thank you! I really like a lot in this line.
You smell fantastic! It was a non-CP candidate for today but it is quite the production to get it ready to wear – the packaging has many parts to it…the grab, spritz and go bottles are what I end up wearing most often…I suppose I could have pulled it out last night!
Oh, I have never seen the bottle/packaging in person. Didn’t know it was complicated.
I’m probably just being a big baby. Besides the outer box, the bottle itself is inside a clamshell-like box anchored by a piece of metal that you have to pull off to open the rectangular clamshell. Then, since an hate to leave it out, you have to reverse the procedure and one has to be precise to lock in the metal part. Whew, it hurt just describing it ????
And it hurt reading! Lol, that seems pretty annoying. I notice that I don’t wear a perfume as much if it’s hard to get to.
Good for you wearing something you still love! That can be an incredible psychological pick me up…
It actually felt good to come back to an old friend.. so to speak.
I am in Anatole Lebreton L’Eau Scandaleuse. Do not feel that scandaleuse thou, more like hangover after drinking too much wine last night.
Sounds ‘scandaleuse’ all right 😀
Touche 😉
No hangover today, but I finished a bottle of Rosè in my GARGANTUAN purple wine glass, bought especially for days like yesterday!Lol!
I met up with some Vancouver perfumistas last summer and we did an impressive job thunking ???? bottles.
LOL ????????????????????
Apropos of nothing, I am wearing a Sephora sample of The 7 Virtues Jasmine Neroli. It’s very pretty, but for some reason strongly reminds me of Acqua di Parma’s Iris Nobile (which I have and love). I’m thinking of trying the brand’s sampler, does anyone have any favorites from them? They seem well done in general from what I sniffed in the store.
Way back when the line first came out, I saw an article that it was available at Lord & Taylor. I went to the NYC flagship store and no one new anything about it!
Arghh, I meant no one KNEW anything about it…
Aedes Copal Azur today. Still love it, still want it. I don’t qualify for the project but it’s ok.
You smell great!
My SOTD in the spirit of the CP is Boucheron Jaipur Saphir. It’s one of the first somewhat unusual and intriguing, expensive things I ever bought, and my bottle is still about 1/3 full, but I never wear it any more. This was way back when–might have bought it the year it came out, 1999–I was first learning the vocabulary of perfumes and felt sure that “my” preferred category was Oriental. (That’s still somewhat true.) It’s got the right notes I love–a bit of orange, vanilla, peach, benzoin, cinnamon–but somehow it’s just too strident and harsh, and I don’t think that’s due to going ‘off’. I keep it in a dark cabinet and my place is well-air-conditioned. I admit that I still adore the blue bottle with the gem on top! Not long after that one, I moved on to Boucheron Initial. I don’t have the fancy bottle of that, just a little one, but it’s the edp and I do still love it. I ration it out though. I believe it’s discontinued. It’s somewhat like the Saphir, but much softer, due I believe to the rose and cassis. Lovely combination with the same appealing orange (which is in many of my favourite scents) plus the honey on the bottom. It really is nice and not as sweet as this description might make it sound. In fact, I should wear it more often! I have a clear memory of going to buy a nicer bottle of it at Neiman-Marcus and they said it was discontinued, and wouldn’t I like to buy Trouble instead? It was new and they were really pushing it. (I see now this was 2004.) I did buy a bottle and wore it a lot until my best friend confessed that it smelled to her just like root beer. Once I got that take on it, I couldn’t erase it, and ended up giving it away–though I now think maybe I should try it again.
i really liked Trouble. IT reminded me of Dior Addict before it was reformulated.
I love Trouble because it smelled like root beer! Annick Goutal Myrrhe Ardente too, for the same reason.
Agree with you 100% on AG Myrrhe Ardente smelling like root beer! And the good stuff, too, that had a little bite to it.
Late to the party.
I wore Iris Nazarena today (not a part of the CP, I still love it so much)
I visited the beautiful Odilon Redon exhibition this afternoon in The Kröller-Müller Museum, and walked 13 km through the Hoge Veluwe National Park (the museum is situated in middle of the park).
And yay friday, have a great weekend everyone! 🙂
You smell WONDERFUL jiji!❤️✌????
Thank you! ????
I drained two samples last year and could not get this perfume out of my head. Its so beautiful. So a few months ago I finally bought the travel spray-set. No regrets.
I did the same! The tavel version of those bottles is just as beautiful.LoveLoveLooooove mine!✌????
Did you walk a roundabout from Otterlo or Hoenderloo? Us enquiring souls want to know.
I made a roundtrip, starting at the Otterlo parking place. We walked to the museum (2,4 km), walked around in the museum and on the museum grounds (at least 0,5 km, maybe more), and then we continued southwards (passed the Henry Moore sculpture ‘Three upward motives’), took a right turn after a while, and another one and ended up (after 10 km) again in Otterlo. 🙂
CP: Wearing Charlie. Takes me back to school days when I started wearing perfume but earned $2.40 a week doing laundry so Charlie was kind of like the Amouage of the day as far as I was concerned. Once I bought it I wore it every day , right until I got better paid work. Found a 1/4 full bottle in an Op Shop this week. The scent is made in England which surprises me. Back in Charlie Days we coukd get magazines like Seventeen and Madmoiselle and Honey but they only came by surface mail ( some still do) so they were always 4 months behind which is why I still have a nostalgic preference for retrospective horoscopes.
Kanuka, please see my response to this below johanob’s post.
YOu smell great Kanuka! Funny that your bottle says it is made in England as Charlie was Revlon which was/is an America company. I wore Charlie and Ciara in elementary school when they first came out. Later wore Jontue..do you remember that one? I love your list of the fragrances that you graduated to once you got a better paying job 🙂 I also remember Seventeen and Mademoiselle. I am fairly certain there are a few very old Mademoiselles still in my parents house.
In some ways I think there were definitely fewer but better perfumes then than now …in NZ at least… as far as mainstream is concerned. I don’t recall Jontue but do remember Silences, Calyx, Y, and then all the Tweed, Meadowsong, Holly Hobbie, Babe, Fenjal, Taylor of London, Potter and Moore, type stuff…basically all the stuff that came with matching bath salts.
I was a great believer of perfume as a force field
Tweed!! By Lentheric? What a great one.
I remember my sister had a bottle of that which I regularly stole sprays from.
I completely agree with you…fewer but better perfumes back then…I also wore Babe by Faberge and later Calyx.
My sister got Tiger Beat which I was able to read once she was done with it. It felt like Shaun Cassidy was on the cover for every issue!
(snickering at the Shaun Cassidy comment)
????
And I just looked him up in Wikipedia – he’ll be 60 years old on September 27 ????, married 3x (and still together with wife 3) ????, has 8 kids ????, the youngest just turned 7 this year ???? .
TGIF!What a week…I am seriously ready to go and live on Mars already.Or buy that remote Island with a runway for perfumed parcel drop-offs ONLY.
SOTD Fracas. After I read that Madonna wears it etc etc,I rushed to get a bottle. It’s still a “nice” perfume, but I don’t get what the big fuss is about.Carnal Flower and Poison on the other hand…actually even Madonna’s own Truth or Dare!(which I hoard and ADORE!) are way better in the Tuberose-category,IMHO.
Anyway.Humans.What a disappointing species.
Happy Weekend All!
X
I have the EDT of Fracas and it is okay. Just okay.
The EDP and extrait must be better.
Lots of other Tuberose fish in the sea. ????????????????????
????????????????
Totally agreed!Nothing beats the smell of a fresh bunch in a vase though!
Which are your favorite Tuberose-fumes Bear?
I love the original Michael Kors (Tuberose, incense, sandalwood) . NO respect among perfume folk, but it is loud and the incense shouts as loud as the Tuberose. HdP Tuberueuse 3Animale is leather.
Blonde, Mahora, Amarige are multi florals.
And Carnal Flower for the stems and leaves too. ????????????????????????????????????????????
Nice list!I have some sniffing to do then ASAP!Thanks Bear and Schneeze!!????✌????❤️
I was obsessed with MK! I had a bottle when it came out. It is LOUD, but not as loud as Amarige, which was my alternate fume ????
Sorry about the disappointing humans. o_0
FWIW ever had you paws on Versace Blonde? That’d blow Fracas off its socks. Assuming perfumes have feet to wear socks on but I digress.
Haha!Actually No!I’ve had one Versace in my lifetime,The Dreamer.Must remedy then on your rec! Will report back!Thank you!
Poor Fracas! More for me then ???? EDP all the way
Haha!I do think I have a lifetime supply already,so I will indulge every now and then.Enjoy yours beck_hen!✌????
Hang in there…spring is happening!
Yes it is!!We’re having our first Spring rains tonight as I type!!????????????????????
Take me with you to Mars, please!!! or to the demoted Pluto, where I can never be found. What a super crazy, non-sense day at work today! ???? TGIF! But I love the idea of the island where only perfumes are allowed to land! ????. Enjoy your weekend and rest my friend. You smell fantastic!
Haha!I hear you on the non-sense day,I am still baffled by whatever the hell happened yesterday at work.
Definitely happy with you that it is Friday!
Hope you have some chill-time this weekend!
And thanks!
✌????❤️????????
Happy to hear that you are getting spring rains, johanob! ???????? As I recall, things were really bad with respect to drought for you last year. I’m also going to second Bear’s suggestion of the original Michael Kors fragrance. It seems to get better and more complex as it sits.
(Ha – retrospective horoscopes.) Charlie was THE fragrance when I was in high school (mid-70s). I never wore it though – there was an older girl whom I greatly admired who wore Je Reviens, so I adopted her fragrance. It didn’t make me cooler, but I enjoyed it for many years. In fact, searching for it again back in the early 2000s was what led me down the rabbit hole. (Adding that I loved Seventeen and Mademoiselle back in the day.)
But what fragrance did you graduate to once you got better paid work? Inquiring minds want to know!
Oops – darn, wrong place. This was for Kanuka!
Opium and Magie Noire and J’ai Ose, Boucheron, Paloma Picasso, shalimar, Obsession…but mostly Opium. That would have been my teenage signature scent that went with my brown school gymslip, fawn knee length wool socks and forest green v-neck jumper, and brown blazer, brown bri-nylon regulation knickers, brown bloomers for sports ( sad but true) …brown = crimes against teenagers. Bloomers …keep waiting for the revival in athletic wear junkies. How to make teenagers look like they are wearing toddler pants with a full nappy.
OMG your school uniform sounds about as HORRID as mine!!Lemon-yellow(!!!)formal shirt, grey pants and Brown Grasshopper shoes….whoever thought grey pants needed brown shoes was seriously demented.
Ugh…thise uniforms has no redeeming features at all. The terrible thing is that school uniforms are still horrible. And do you remember how the hems used to be striped in various shades of faded wool from being lengthened …ugh. Take me to a counsellor!!!
Haha!My grey woolly pants looked pleated,but horisontal,at one stage!!Lol!
Thank goodness for developing a good dress sense BECAUSE of those horrors.????????♂️????
Ha, no uniforms at my school, but I think that although we would all have complained loudly, we might have been relieved to have a uniform that would make us all be equally un-cool. We did have to wear these little “rompers” (for lack of a better word) short-sleeved shirts with attached shorts for PE. They were light blue and not horrible, but not great. Funny, I hadn’t though of those in YEARS.
Lucky you for not having to wear uniform! But it seems to have rubbed off on me somehow, having to still wear uniform to work as an adult!(Formal nursing uniform for student days, luckily scrubs in theatre-still a uniform!haha!)
I don’t wear a uniform now, but the longest job I had had white scrubs/shoes only rule (old Catholic hospital in NYC). And no sneakers. Ugh.
I still have a hard time wearing white-not a single white shirt in my wardrobe.
We didn’t have uniforms either, but they decided to institute them the year after we graduated for pretty much the level-the-playing-field reason. I just assumed they were getting headaches from the sea of neon colors that had to endure every day, lol.
Replying to your comment above as we ran out of comment space, lol, but yeah,I hear you on the white shoes!Haha! My nursing uniform was also white from head to toe.
I do appreciate a crisp white shirt though.☺️✌????
Oh that sounds hideous. Our uniforms were white blouse, dark green plaid pleated skirts, navy blazer or cardigan, and saddle oxfords with white or navy socks. I spent a lot of time ironing. 🙂
I forgot about the project because my bottle of Aedes Musc Encens arrived yesterday (my belated birthday present to myself) and I wanted to wear it today. I am loving it! I can still smell it although I sprayed it on at 8:20 A.M.
No shame at all in wearing your new perfume! It sounds lovely.
All of my former “signature scent” perfumes have been relegated to Pluto status, but the newest one to go is Wit. Loved it when I bought it, wore it a lot, then winter came and I put it away. Pulled it out the following spring and OMG it is soooo sweet. Put it away again until this summer, when on a breezy, 70 degree day it was very pretty. Tried it again today and no, so sweet it makes my fillings ache. Well, better to have loved and lost…
I need to pull mine out to wear before the weather turns cooler for an extended period!
I’ve been wracking my brain this week about all my perfumes, and if any past obsessions have become “Meh”. I would say that a couple of the Elizabeth and James Nirvana scents probably have gone this route… I loved both Black and Rose when I first sampled them. I even started plotting about the possibility of adding a bottle or two to my collection.
But I have re-tried Nirvana Black earlier this week and found it a pleasant, low key scent that could smell like a couple of things I already have. I have not yet re-tried Nirvana Rose… might do that over the weekend. Or I might try some new to me samples. The thrill of these seems to have been in the chase.
SOTD = back in Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black.
You summed up Nirvana Black perfectly. 😉 I think I like Bourbon best, but I can never quite make up my mind.
Do you have a sample of Bourbon, or do you sneak a spritz when you can?
both! I bought a roller ball set, I consider those samples. 😉
???? good practice for purchasing a hajusuuri-sized sample ????
An unusual late summer day here, very cool and somewhat rainy, is perfect for my SOTD, JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt, which is slightly imperfect for today’s challenge since I don’t recall ever been obsessed with any one single scent.
But Wood Sage and Sea Salt is a fragrance I really wanted to try when it first came out, both because I really enjoy ‘sea air’ fragrances that remind me of cool, rocky shores (rather than tropical beaches or aquatic scents) and also because Christine Nagel is a favorite of mine, but I just never got around to it. I’d finally blind bought a mini and then saw today’s challenge so I decided to save my testing for today.
And I like it! It’s a bit more herbal on me than I expected and less salt-air, but it’s enjoyable except for its short-lived nature, which seems to be a common complaint about the Jo Malone scents. I’ve already sprayed heavily numerous times today and I can barely smell it. So I’ll be enjoying my mini but won’t be replacing it. For my money, a much better value – and IMO a much better scent that lasts and lasts – is the original Hermes Eau des Merveilles. I love, love, love this one – I could ‘almost’ be obsessed with it!
yay for Eau des Merveilles!
I’m obsessed too. We should start a club. 😀
You haven’t already???? ????
made me laugh!
Ha!!!!
Late but I did it yesterday : wore Artisan Parfumeur L’eau d’Ambre Extreme – which I loved at first sniff but over time I found the drydown too… dusty? chalky? I think Amber in general makes for sexy powerful fragrances, this one just has something about it that screams ‘dust!’. I still wear it now and then.
But by far my biggest fall out of love ( that I don’t wear anymore) would be CK Euphoria, which is the first ‘expensive’ fragrance I ever bought as soon as I could afford it 13 years ago and loved it madly ( bottle and ad too!)
