Tuesday, and the less said about that the better. PSA: the damage poll will be coming up on Thursday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in good old Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers, because SheriG wore it yesterday. Tea at the moment is 'Yunnan Golden Tips Organic' from Upton (and it is delicious).
Reminder: 7/6 will be Frida Kahlo's birthday...do what you like with the theme! (Kevin wrote about a perfume she actually wore in A Celebrity’s Scent: Frida Kahlo & Dana Emir.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from Still Life with Teapot and Fruit by Paul Gauguin, 1896.
Hot and muggy, I’m wearing a few spritzes of Fou d’Absinthe.
I am afraid to stick my head outside and see just how hot and muggy it is. You do smell great!
I am wearing Chanel No. 19 hoping it will help me stay focused on work. But I guess no scent can overcome my laziness.
Do you know that there is a perfume dedicated to Frida Kahlo? (Maybe I knew but forgot?) https://www.envoyageperfumes.com/products/frida
wow! Thanks for the link
Scent Cousins !
Hi Cousin!
“But I guess no scent can overcome my laziness.”
Love that…it also resonates for me.
amen to that, sisters.
Hard truth!
Tea this morning is matcha latte, my 2 year old help me make it. Most of the matcha ended up outside the bowl…but it good fine motor skills to practice the whisking.
Myrrhe Eglantine by Hermes
I am warming up to this one I think because I liked Galop. Hermes and I normally don’t get along.
The Myrrhe note in this one is calling out to me.
Have you tried this one yet? I ordered a sample on the evil bay and have no regrets so far.
Not yet. I need to get through the zillions of samples I have first!
Maybe you will get along better with Christine Nagel than Jean Claude Ellena?
Can I send my 19 year old to you to practice his whisking skills?
Absolutely. I also had be toddlers shelling fava beans last night…
Lightly spritzed up in Tom Ford’s Ombré Leather.
Still feeling the summer heat wave. Have a great fourth. ✨????✨????
You smell great!
Mmmmm, you smell wonderful! I spritzed this one in store and really enjoyed it.
How was the cruise???
Quite beautiful. The scenery was incredible.
Re-testing Zoologist Civet. I like it; it’s kind of a pleasant cloud to be in and reminds me of Boucheron. But Nightingale wins.
Gonna be a hot one today, so I’ll probably were Un jardin sur la Nil. At least it’s date night, so no cooking for me. ????
Twins! I’m wearing at least 7 spritzes of it.
Extreme heat and humidity warnings here all week, so I pulled out No. 19 Poudree – fresh and crisp against the heat with a bit of powder to soften things up.
Stay cool.
that one is a beauty!
No. 19 Poudree is so pretty, perfect counterpart to warm and muggy.
You smell great
Twins with you today. ????
You smell yummy
Melograno
I was surprised at how much I liked this one. I was expecting a fruity, sweet scent, which I don’t usually like, but it was crisp and yet not harsh. I am always on the lookout for a decant of this, and SMN isn’t great about shipping to Canada. You smell wonderful
Yes, it is very powdery and clean and musky to my nose….I have an older bottle so I don’t know if the current stuff is the same or different. I know you also like two others from this brand, one with tobacco and vanilla? I remember you discussing it a while back.
Yes!
I have Aqua di Cuba ( Tobacco and citrus) and an almost empty decant of Tobacco Toscano ( Tobacco, leather, lime and vanilla). Both are very well made scents.
Those both sound fantastic!
Hot, hot, hot. Wearing Ivoire EDT to keep things green and soapy. I forgot deodorant today, so I’ll be adding my own “civet” notes later on.
LOL at ‘civet’ notes.
HA!!!!
Its so hot here everyone will be adding their own civet.
YUP!!!
????
… and if only the rest of the population had it tempered by Ivoire
I wish!
lol! I like your positive spin on the situation!
BYOBO
hahahahaha!!!
Exactly!
Awesome! ????
This made me laugh like a maniac.
I love that one! I haven’t worn my Ambre Gris in a while, should take that out at some point!
Hot, muggy, overwhelming. Wearing Demeter New Zealand from the freebiemeet (thanks Kelly). A simple, but very nice green scent. Longevity and sillage are really good. I might get a full bottle in the future.
We are working half day today. I should be out by 1pm. I might take the rest of the week off. I need some quiet time out of work. Happy 4th of July everyone! Enjoy!
YES!!! Take the rest of the week off. Give yourself some quiet time to just relax, hibernate from the world and recharge. It will do you a world of good. I go off the grid every once in a while myself and it really does help
Adding my encouragement to taking the week off.
If you need some quiet time out of work, then definitely take it! Rest and recharge!
Lucky for the 1/2 day! It’s soooo uncomfortable outside. And I’ll add my encouragement for the week off.
I also liked New Zealand when I tried it-easy, fresh, green!
Joining others to support a couple of extra days off: 5 days in a row will allow you to relax and get much better “return” on the two days off than if those are taken on their own. And just think about how many perfumes you can tast during those days!
Thank you all! I will be out the rest of the week at home. My boss was not so happy, but I did not care much. Hope next week is a better one for me.
Good for you! Hope it is restorative and restful for you.
Thank you. Hope to find some comfort during these days off.
Glad to hear that you are taking some much needed time off for R & R!
Thank you Jalapeno. This time off is really needed.
We’ll be time off twins…also have Monday off too since I need to recover from cpvacation!
Fat fingered it again but ykwim
Have a nice time off Hajusuuri! I will be back to work on Monday since I will be staying home all these days. Enjoy!
Enjoy the time off.
Thank you She-ra!
Today’s SOTD is Gucci No. 3 parfum by Gucci. A spicy floral with notes of: rose, narcissus, tuberose, lily of the valley & orris root, leather, oakmoss, amber, musk, vetiver, patchouli.
MMMM….I drained my bottle of that one a LOOOONG time ago….you smell good
and yay for scoring a bottle of French Lime Blossom…Undina recently wrote an article about it being discontinued….also, I did not know that Jo Malone made 15ml bottles…must be something new.
I read that same article and almost gave up hope to find a bottle; of course I did a (mini) happy dance in the middle of Bloomingdale’s (I have no shame) I was so excited!
The SA didn’t have any in-store but it was still available online, she was a sweetheart and gave me free shipping and a bunch of samples. I also purchased the Orange Blossom 15 ml.
I like that JM has 15ml sizes, there’s few exceptions where I ‘need’ 100 ml (Fendi, Feminite du Bois and Magie Noire excepted).
Nice!!!! Glad you got yourself a bottle! I love that one and have my own bottle of it that I bought three years ago for my birthday.
I also love Orange Blossom…I think that was my very first Jo Malone purchase if I am not mistaken.
Let me know if you want some Gucci No. 3, I have a huge bottle of the EDP.
Email me at ldetrich at yahoooooooo dot com.
Lovely SOTD!
I opted for Zegna’s Acqua Di Bergamotto on this warm and sunny day.
Nice! A perfect summer choice.
Today’s tea: Ginger kombucha. Tastes like a non-sweet, extra-spicy ginger ale.
SOTD: Kuumba Made Lily of the Valley.
That was the one scent that was sold out at my Whole Foods (or should I say amazon prime- grr) and it did smell lovely from the tester! How does it wear?
Why grr? We may see negative repercussions of the Amazon takeover in the future, but right now, all it’s done is make WF prices more reasonable, and make delivery from WF a more reasonable option. I’m loving the effects so far
I’m pro-Amazon (though there are plenty of reasons not to be) and all for it, myself.
They’ve stopped carrying two of my favorite whole milk yogurts and didn’t bring any replacement so far, while prices for those several positions that I get from HF haven’t changed, so for me it wasn’t a change for better. But we’ll see.
Making prices lower-which, yes I love!- is not all it’s done for my store. I’ve seen the effects trickle down over the last year…some minor, like new lighting and rearrangement of areas of the store. Others more noticeable, gone are any product samples, certain items from the shelves and an increased percentage of items being out of stock as a direct result of the way they do their ordering. (Yes, I asked) It all just feels so much less….personal.???? And rightly so! It’s big business now. I guess the final eye roll for me was yesterday when all the employees black WF aprons had been replaced with blue prime ones. The blue signs are literally everywhere out and inside the store.
I’m old, and I don’t adapt well to change. End of rant. Which by no means was directed at you Koyel! It’s just the way I feel.
I see! Thanks for explaining. We still have samples at our WF, and none of the things I tend to buy there have disappeared, and it never felt very personal (though everyone has always been very kind and helpful!), so I guess that is why I didn’t feel the difference. But your objections make sense to me!
It’s quite potent for the first 20 minutes or so after I put it on, then it calms down significantly and becomes more of a skin scent. I find that it doesn’t wear as long on my skin as other oils do, but it’s a nice pick-me-up.
I haven’t been to the WF near me for a while now. I will keep an eye out the next time I get there and look for changes.
I love many Kuumba Made scents, the Egyptian Musk, Zen Rain and Amber Paste are really enjoyable. Is the LOV more on the sweet or green side?
I’d probably love it either day. Have you tried their body lotions? Pretty heavily scented, I have the Patchouli and Egyptian Musk in the lotion.
I guess I’d call it more green? It reminds me a lot of the clumps of wild honeysuckle that were blooming just a few weeks ago. I’ve never seen Kuumba Made body lotions before!
Ahhh, you smell gorgeous, Robin!
I’m in Vol de Nuit today because I need something that will last longer than most (not that Azemour doesn’t – it was still wafting as I went to bed last night). We’re meeting some dear friends for dinner tonight – they’re visiting from the East Coast, and are staying several towns toward the beach from us so it will be a relatively late evening for us old folks.
Hope it is a fun evening SheriG!
I hope it is a fun evening out SheriG! And yes, any late evenings we old fogies do has to be enjoyed strategically – one late night out during the week and I’m just a red-hot mess! Apparently, our Disco days are over!
I decided last night to go through my untouched discovery sets in the next few weeks. First up is Bruno Fazzolari Unsettled. This reminds me of something else that I don’t like. The only thing that is coming to mind is Kerosene Unknown Pleasures, but it may be something else. On first wearing, not for me. I will finish the sample and see if it grows on me.
Sotd is Alien eau Sublime, my sunshine perfume. I drank cinnamon and blackberry tea this morning, which was very good and tasted like cinnamon toast crunch! I’ve been drinking alot of water and tea lately, I’ve cut my diet coke consumption down to about half. Btw, does anyone have a tip for unjamming a paper shredder?
Whoa your tea sounds like a treat! Where’d you find it? And good for you on cutting your diet coke intake.
Having worked in libraries even for only a few years, I’ve cleared many, many printer jams and stapler jams, but never a shredder jam. Hope someone here has a good tip for you.
I found it at my local grocery store. I’m new to tea, so just looked for something that sounded good with a semi promise of health benefits. Lol
Does your paper shredder have a “Reverse” setting or button on it? That’s what I use when my shredder jams. Otherwise, it means turning off the paper shredder and picking stuff out of the mechanism with a pair of pliers. And that’s tedious.
+1 to jalapeño’s suggestion except don’t just turn off the shredder, UNPLUG it.
Dame facial cream on my arms (I know-it says FACE, but it is too thick for my face) and a drop of Dame Orange Flower on each wrist. I think the sample he sent me of this is the perfume oil ????, as it seems more viscous than perfume would be.
How does the face cream smell?
and there are lip balms now….chocolate and mint…oh oh LOL!
I saw those!! I bet they are great!
Like orange blossom! It’s yummy! But I don’t like scented products on my face, and also it’s too thick, it works better as a body butter for me.
My skin is SOOO dry (I can slather thick oil on my face and never break out) so I bet it would work. I think it is advertised as a super hydrating cream for very dry skin. When/if I ever need new face cream I might give it a try. The sample size is super cheap.
I thought the same about my skin and met my match in this one! Hope it works for you. (Also hope this breakout was actually unrelated, ha. I liked it so much I am going to try it again once my skin calms down)
thanks Regina for letting me know. I may never get around to ordering anyway because there is enough in my house for now
Chocolatemarzipan8, my skin gets pretty dry also; have you tried Mad Hippie Antioxidant Face Oil? It’s like a multi-vitamin for the skin, I can’t be without it, even in summer and it’s very reasonably priced, I think I paid $24.99 for my last bottle that lasted six months. Link is below.
https://www.madhippie.com/products/antioxidant-facial-oil
SmokeyToes, thanks for the recommendation… just looked at the link… looks good.. lots of oils that are good for my skin!!
Ooh, an orange blossom body butter sounds nice. I’ve only smelled his perfume (not oil) orange blossom and I really liked it. I need some more, in fact… thanks for the reminder.
I just started using Josie Maran body butter in the scent Limoncello, which I love. It’s a sugared lemon with a hint of green. I only use it on my feet though (and sometimes legs at night.) It’s the whipped argan oil stuff in the tub which I’ve never liked on my body. I love a body butter, but this one kinda makes my skin feel dirty. On feet it’s great, though.
I’ve been wondering about the concentration of my sample of cactus orchid, too. Also remember when I told you all the face cream was my holy grail? After a few weeks it made me break out!
Oh no!
I am wearing the last of my sample of Superstitious by FM. It’s nice enough, vintage in feel, but not my style.
I was initially a bit repelled by Superstitious, then wore tiny sprays a couple of days in a row and started to come around to it. Definitely a hot weather scent, IMO – steely and cold.
Yes, not a hot weather scent. I think I was a bit more impressed the first time I’ve tried it than now, that I’ve got to know it. I realized it would never suit me.
Interesting, to me Superstitious is a cold weather scent. It feels like a fur coat on me. I love it.
I’m wearing Hiris today (thanks, tiffanie!), as an antidote to the heat. It’s cool, transparent and refined.
Mmm, that sounds lovely.
that one is lovely!
+1 for Hiris!

Glad you’re enjoying it today.
Perfect Hiris description. You smell lovely!
That is the perfect description, I gifted my MIL with a bottle and it smells so pretty on her!
Once in a while I sneak a spritz or two.
Beautiful, perfect sunny day. 80F now and supposed to stay this way. I’m sitting on my (huge!) front porch drinking iced jasmine tea and wearing Shalimar Initial, which I bought last week in a travel size. It reminds me a bit of Shaal Nur, but a few hours into the drydown is going a bit masculine on me. I’m not sure this one is going to work for me, so I’ll see what I can unearth from my unpacked boxes to spray later. I do wonder how this would smell on my husband, though.
Happy that he’s got tomorrow off to help me unpack and get this apartment in shape. It has thus far been very, very slow going. Ugh. I’d somehow convinced myself that it’s unpacking that’s easy and packing that’s the hard part. There are also a lot of things we’re going to need to buy to make some spaces functional so that’ll add time. And we learned yesterday that there’s no Ikea here! The closest one is 2.5 hours away! Generally, I hate going to Ikea and only do so grudgingly – now I’m irked that there’s no store to grudgingly go to.
I like Shalimar Initial the most from the Shalimar variations I’ve tried.
Having smelled also Shaal Nur, I did not get a resemblance between the two.
It’s the vetiver that’s making me think of Shaal Nur.
where did you buy this?
There’s an ebay seller that has 15ml travel bottles. There are still some left
If you do a search for Shalimar Initial, you’ll see them since there aren’t that many listings.
You smell good, and jasmine tea on the porch is a slice of heaven. I think unpacking is harder, but I do like the organizing aspect.
The porch was the main draw for this place. I love a porch. This one needs some Adirondack chairs stat.
The organizing is going to be challenging and we’ll need to be creative. Our apartment is huge (1300 sq ft) but the bedrooms are tiny, and the bathrooms are even tinier. We’re using the 2nd bedroom as a dressing room as the one we’ve got our bed in is so small all it will fit is our queen size bed and nightstands – no dressers. (Closet is very large, though.) The bathrooms (there are 2; identical) are basically water closets with bathtubs on one side with no storage beyond a tiny space under the sink. Not even medicine cabinets! There’s barely enough wall space to hang a towel hook.
On the other hand, there is a lot of space elsewhere. A very large walk-in closet/storage room, a full-size real deal laundry room, and a sizeable pantry. But they all need additional shelving and that kind of thing to maximize the storage capacity and make the spaces more functional.
So it’ll take considerable time and expense until we’re fully settled. It also needs painting and I’m hoping the owner will work with me on that.
I’m also trying to picture the porch. Is it shared with the building? Great having some outdoor space though-that’s what sold me on our current place, which claims to be 1800 sq ft (some wasted by a staircase and probablyincludes the yard), has only 1 small closet in the living room, a tiny kitchen with minimal storage, and no bathtubs:(
Your IKEA comment made me lol!
It’s the full front porch of a huge house built around 1910. (our unit is the entire first floor; the upper unit is the full 2nd floor). We could easily fit a full dining table and chairs on one side and 2 Adirondacks with a little table on the other. It’s all ours! No sharing ????
The neighboring houses have porches built at the same elevation and distance from the street, so when I look left or right I can see through everyone’s porches, which I love.
We also have a shared back yard, with our own little area big enough for a table and grill.
I moved into my new apartment over the weekend and am having all the same feelings about unpacking! (Also I haven’t gotten an a/c unit yet, so it’s about 85 degrees and sticky in there. Yuck.)
If you find any good solutions for compact storage/shelving I would love to hear about them. I’m also dealing with near-zero cabinet space in my kitchen and bathroom, but am not keen on anything that has to be fastened to the wall.
I’m not sure we can even mount anything on the walls here, which is possibly why there’s nothing mounted in the bathrooms already. I need to talk to the owner.
I’ll update you on storage solutions if we are able to come up with any. Best to you with your own moving challenges!
How long are you planning on staying in this apartment?
Iced jasmine tea sounds nice.
Wearing Kyoto and burning Japanese incense in honour of the Japanese soccer team’s valiant effort yesterday. Going for a massage later today. I’m going to be so relaxed and zen by the end of the day I won’t be able to stand up.
it was such a good game!
I am watching Sweden versus the Swiss now..
I feel more relaxed just reading this post, lol. Nothing beats a good massage, and you picked the perfect scent to go with it. Enjoy!
Nice!
I only caught the highlights of the game. Hate to see either team lose in that one.
I do love a massage. Occasionally I’ll treat myself to a spa day at Kabuki Spa in Japantown (SF), between the baths, steam (wet & dry) and massages, I leave like a bowl of Jello by day’s end.
I loved that the Japanese fans cleaned up. Says so much about culture.
Sounds like a perfect day, and a perfect example of self care. Enjoy!
Sampling OSA from Note di Profumum which is somehow reminding me of No More Tangles shampoo.
Now that my perfume is unpacked, I am realizing that I definitely have some scents that I didn’t miss while they were in storage and way too many samples. I’d love to have a live swap party at my new place. I’m in the Boston area (Watertown) and am free most Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sat evenings. If anyone is interested, my user name is my yahoo address
OMG, a live swap party sounds like so much fun – I wish I was in your hometown (or even on your coast)!
Wow, I wish I lived nearby! That’s actually a great idea.
Just throwing it out there…is anyone in the Houston area interested in a live swap party?
That sounds so cool! ????
Very happy to have a day off in the middle of the week tomorrow. I’m wearing L de Lolita Lempicka. (It’s not CRAZY hot where I am but I also like this one in the heat, go figure)
Yay for day off! And you can have our crazy hot.
Noooooooo not the damage pooooollllllll. I hate reckonings. Can’t I just say that I earn more money than I spend on perfume and leave it at that?
I am NOT wearing a Frida Kahlo-like scent. Instead, I am wearing the marvelously exquisite Songe d’un bois d’ete. I first sniffed it in Paris, and couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I bought a sample, despite my insistence that I shouldn’t buy any more samples ever again. Now I want to buy a bottle. I wonder if anyone would want to split it with me, to defray the very significant cost (something like $300 including tax
) Only a couple months until the splitmeet, right?
I’ve been quite busy lately, so I haven’t gotten a chance to come to NST. Additionally, logging in got totally screwed up sometime recently (maybe a month or two ago?), so it’s enough of a hassle to log in on my computer, and prohibitively annoying on my phone. Typing comments on my phone has also gone all wonky (other websites work fine, but NST makes my whole phone freeze up). Did you change things around recently, Robin?
Yes, you can, absolutely. I’m looking forward to reading about your new fragrances.
Isn’t Songe wonderful? I bought Rose nacrée a year ago or so, as that one was my favourite of the trio, but Songe was a close second, so I fully understand your craving a full bottle.
Songe is great. It’s only gotten EVEN BETTER over the past few hours. I really must get myself some.
I thought of you when I tried the Deserts trio
I really like Rose Nacree too! But Songe is my standout.
You can say you earn more money than you spend on perfume (I hope we all do!) but I want to know what you bought! Come across!
Haha
I will, I will, if only to keep tabs on myself. I’ll have to start looking through my orders tonight!
Sounds like you need to try for the split… ????
Odd re logging in…it recently got much easier for me.
Funny. I had to put my password in this morning to get in. I figured it was my computer, since it ought to have been saved and automatically filled in.
Every now and then I have to re-sign in to NST. No idea why.
The cookie that keeps you signed in expires eventually, and that is how they are supposed to be designed. Now of course I forget how many days it lasts, but it does that for me too.
At least we are in agreement that it recently changed!
I also really like that Guerlain, but have had the same 5ml decant for 2 years! Though, I think it’s starting to evaporate.
I have enough total perfume that 5 mL of anything would last me a while, but I so love this one that I theoretically want much, much more than 5 mL!
I’ve noticed something new on the login screen I see for NST. It’s a checkbox that won’t let me sign in if it ignore it.
I’m thinking it has to do with the General Data Protection Regulation that was recently implemented in certain countries in Europe. It is pretty broad. Most of the websites have a banner on the bottom that asks you for permission to browse their site if it requires cookies — counterintuitive and I may be oversimplifying.
Yeah, I had thought of something along those lines, too, since that was about the time said checkbox showed up.
Exactly. We do not force a banner on everyone since we don’t use cookies unless you sign in and comment.
Koyel, we finally switched to the secure version of http, in other words, went from http to https. But can’t think of why that would cause trouble with commenting, in fact, most of the web had already switched over.
And as Jalapeno notes above, we added a new checkbox to the login to deal with the new GDPR regulations in the EU. But also can’t think of why that would cause any problem.
If anyone else is having trouble, please speak up!
And by the way, I am not saying that I did not do something stupid that is causing your problem, because I may well have! I am just saying I don’t know what it is.
Woke up at 3:45 and couldn’t go back to sleep, so probably a nap is in the cards for this afternoon. Dropped the dog at the dentist and I have a massage scheduled for later this morning. I’m wearing Carthusia Mediterraneo and thinking about putting together a group of fragrances good in the heat. Mid-to-upper 80’s forecast for the next couple of days and a possible heatwave next week.
I’m getting massage envy here….seems to be the day for it. You smell nice…Carthusia scents are likely in the list for nice in the heat.
I’m wearing Petite Chérie which I swear smells just like Poire Williams when you first put it on, plus I’ve added Ambre Sultan and La filled de Berlin since. I wanted to know if Ambre had changed since I got my bottle 8 years ago and it has, or my bottle has changed. Dry down is the same. Fille was out of curiosity, wasn’t quite smitten with it when it first came out, but I’m greatly enjoying it today.
, she is drowned by the Serges.
Needless to say I can barely make out PC at the moment
I really like La Fille, it’s one of my favorite Serges. I reach for Sa Majeste more often, but I’m glad I have my bottle of LFdB. You smell great!
I never got that bottle of Sa Majeste I told you about
I’m still grumpy about it. Oh well.
IIRC, a partial bottle was in play at the most recent swapmeet, so don’t despair! You might yet be able to get your hands on some of it. ????
Wearing Tauerville Rose Flash, which I love more and more each time I wear it.
Yum. I should wear that this week.
Woah it was so warm in the office today….to me it seemed like the climate control system was not working properly.
Sotd is Un jardin en mediterranee.
I am still looking for a perfume match for Frida friday. Id really love to see her work irl one day…but it may take a trip to mexico or usa….
I just read about an exhibition in the V&A museum in London, but I think it mostly exhibits her stuff/clothes.
Has anyone here seen it already? Any good paintings on display?
Ugh, I hope that your AC is working for you the next time you are in the office!
I don’t have a match either!
Will be trying my Arielle Shoshana, which was waiting for me here in CA. Along with some other samples I didn’t expect! Woo hoo!!
Fun day with sis yesterday. Went to the outlets. They had some 4th of July sales going on. Not much damage…I managed to find a purse strap that will let me turn a bag to cross body. Sis got a beautiful bag at nice price herself. Can’t remember the scent she was wearing, but it was wafting nicely all day. I was wearing my freebie Prada Carnation – really nice.
It’s nicely cool here right now and only expected to hit 90, which I like (no humidity.) I think my husband has been outside less than 15 minutes since I left…between the hideous humidity and World Cup, he has no incentive. Tonight he goes to some movie and to see the sublime Terence Stamp speak.
“No humidity.” Holy wow, jealous.
It’s currently 93F at about 4pm, with 77% humidity.
I feel your pain. Just checked: it’s 95F and 48% humidity. Feels like is 106 degrees. Gack!
Yeah, it’s nasty where I am at, too. We had a gigantic pop up storm roll through about 2 hours ago, with plenty of lightning that was close enough to hear CRACKBOOM! instead of just BOOM! Lost the Internet for a little while.
Our power was flickering for a couple hours, but thankfully, did not go out. (knock on wood)
YSL Champagne. I’m very poor at describing scents but this is v fruity without being sweet, and it reminds me of a drier, airier vintage Coco in parts. Must be the peach + rose + non-goopy vanilla + whatever else darker is in there.
There really is a component I can’t pinpoint that smells ‘golden’ in both of them plus in Chanel no 5 EDC. Maybe it’s rose or civet or some other combination thereof or sandalwood? Or maybe it’s amber.
Or something about the aldehydes?
Today is the kind of day that has me wishing it were winter.
I really wasn’t feeling perfume this morning, but went with little dabs of Aroma M Geisha Blanche, which passes for the lingering smell of fancy soap.
Looking forward to seeing my 16 yo niece later who is here on a 2 week summer social justice program through her school, which I think is totally great-pulling them off Snapchat for a couple of weeks will do any teen girl good ???? But it actually sounds like an amazing and well-rounded program and she’s pretty awesome, herself (when she replies with full sentences to my texts ????). I feel for those of you with teens!
LOL ????
Are you identifying? ???? Ugh. I text her and ask for information and she gives me 1/2 sentences AND doesn’t answer my questions!!! Arrrgh! But my sister, who is 59, does that too, so….
Oh yes I am… welcome to the club ????
You’re a great auntie! That program sounds perfect for a teen.
It is, especially in the digital age. It’s an out-in-the-world-amongst-the-peoples program. (I’m also a great auntie to 19(!!!) great nieces and nephews. My sister’s brood is bizzy!)
Enjoy your niece and have a great time together. The heat wave is taking toll on many of us. It has been so many days in a row and I am feeling physically exhausted already. I was planning to go to the beach this afternoon to take a long walk. Instead, I am on my way home, planning to grab some food (no way to cook) and relax under the ac for the rest of the week. Still, no wishing for winter to be here.
Stay cool!
Thank you! Even too hot for the beach, maybe. Although I’m actually appreciating the lack of sun right now.
The rain just cooled things off!
Hey, have fun seeing your niece! What is it with the ’younguns’ and texting? I’ve noticed the same thing – they don’t use complete sentences. Or maybe I am too trained…
When I ask my 16 yr old son, why he doesn’t respond? He says “if you send me a text, just assume I read it” uh… no, so now if he doesn’t respond, I call him. He doesn’t like that.
I bet he texts you back now! Good job you!
SotD = Lilylang
Good morning, NST, hope your day is fragrant and that you stay as cool/warm as you like.
The Sylvaine Delacourte La Collection Muscs sample set I ordered two weeks ago arrived from France yesterday. Lilylang is the first one I’ve worn. I am enjoying it. Musks sometimes overwhelm my nose, but happily no dryer sheet or Tide so far.
The Gaugin still life is beautiful. I’ve mentioned before I enjoy the BBC Civilizations TV series (streaming on PBS). Sunday night I watched an episode with a segment on Gaugin. Highly recommend the series which happened to be mentioned in a Bois de Jasmin post yesterday.
And in new Lofty Life Goals, I think I’d like to be an art historian-anthropologist-archaeologist-perfumista-super-hero(ine) someday.
Mine arrived yesterday too! Thank you for last weeks psa. I love that they included test strips for all of them. Lilylang did smell the most “summery”to my nose.
Lilylang is a very nice scent on this warm day, very summery indeed. Wholeheartedly agree, the test strips were an extra nice touch to a very well done sample set.
Yay, glad you’re both liking Lilylang so far. It was my favorite of the line, and my travel sprays arrived Saturday. I agree that it’s a summery perfume.
It’s nice we share the Lilylang love.
I’m really very pleased with this sample set. None of the musks smell sharp or harsh so far. They seem like the soft-cuddly-warm-skin type.
It’s hot and humid outside and I am really sluggish today. Wearing Deneuve edt today.
This heat has everyone sluggish! I am spending more time than usual in my easy chair, for sure.
That painting is beautiful though I hate Gauguin..
Wearing Le Cri de la Lumiere.
I have been retrying FM Music For a While over and over again, and it’s really growing on me. The weird lavender + pineapple + herbs + amber combination is fun and i am enjoying every stage.
You smell great today!
I only tried that FM once on skin and was a little repelled by it, but found myself compulsively sniffing it. It’s definitely not a wallflower!
I’m looking forward to trying Le Cri soon (i have a decant ordered).
Hello everyone. I’m still in remnants of the MFK Grand Soir that I sprayed on last night before bed. Still smells fabulous. Like most everyone and everywhere else, we’re trying to cope with very high heat and humidity here, with a big storm scheduled to come through tomorrow. But it’s supposed to stop before the fireworks in the evening. I’ll be going to a friend’s to watch them from her rooftop deck. Meanwhile, another friend and former student is back in town because her sister has gone missing under very suspicious circumstances–her apartment ransacked and car found, abandoned, far from where she lives. It’s been on the local news, so other Houston area people may have seen it. It’s heartbreaking. I’ve offered to foster her three cats for the time being. One thing her mother said on the news really got to me, “She would never leave her cats without feeding for three days. They’re like her children.” The police supposedly have some leads, but I am worried the news won’t be good.
Poor girl. I hope she’s okay.
That is a real tragedy. From the bottom of my heart I wish she is fine. Hope is the last thing to to be lost. Thank you for taking care of the cats. They really need a loving home now. My prayers with the family.
Oh, no. You are doing a great kindness to a family very much in need of one. Sending all my hopes that she will be found.
Oh that is so very horrible. You are good to take in the kitties, but what an unimaginable thing.
Wow, how horrific! I can’t imagine what the family might be going through right now. So kind of you to take in her kitties- I’m sure they’re stressed out as well.
Oh dear. My prayers for you and her family and this young woman. Hold those kitties close.
How awful, I hope the outcome is better than expected, although it does sound bad. Blessings to you for taking in the kitties.
Such awful and scary news. I hope she is o.k.. it’s very kind of you to take in the cats.
Hoping she is found and very sweet of you to care for the kitties.
Bless you for fostering the kitties. Hope things turn out better than they sound. Keep us posted!
Yikes! Hoping for a good outcome!
Oh no, that’s horrible! Good for you for fostering those kitties.
That’s so awful! Thank you for taking her kitties, I’m sure they are very confused and stressed as much as her family and friends.
Another humif 90 degree day here. Storms are supposed be coming tonight so maybe no fireworks.
SOTD is Rabele.
Ugh…RAHELE…
Ha ha, there’s another one for my autocorrect perfume names list! I can just imagine a story-line for it, it’s got sort of a “Femme + Rebel” kind of connotation! “The “Rabele” is an Amazon, pretty on the outside, warrior woman underneath!”
????
I’m in Ciel Woman again today, cuz it’s pretty, and also cuz I can finish the sample! This is so well-blended that I can’t really tell what’s in it. Rose, some jasmine and something green. Ok, I guess I can tell a little of what’s in it!
Not FB worthy for me, but I can see how someone would love this for summer.
Take care everyone, please stay cool, hydrated and safe.
Hope you are keeping cool and safe, too!
I have hives grrrrrr
Just a touch of Tea for Two and lots of anti itch cream
Oh, gosh that is the pits. Do you know what causes them? Is it heat or an allergy? I went through months of that in the past, to the point where I’d have to go to the ER. It’s horrible. I found Aveeno anti-itch cream the most soothing. I hope you can get treatment or figure out the source of the problem. For me, it turned out I was allergic to aspirin and other salicylates.
Me too Calypso. Have had to go to ER for steroid shot on more than one occasion.
This is stress related. I have had testing done.
I think my to retirement job is not going to go there…So I’m stressed and my mind is racing at night thinking about can I stick it out? Should I start looking? I dunno I dunno
Oh no, not good. I hope you can find the right answer to your dilemma.
I don’t want to think about work. I want to peruse the Nordstrom Anniversary sale catalog.
Sorry for the hives! I had already perused the catalog and have my items on pre-order. I have not tried on the footwear and just pre-ordered 2 sizes each.
You go!!
Yuck, hives! Feel better soon!
Home w/ my daughter today who was peeing frequently yesterday. In office test didn’t show bacteria but they will send to a lab to see if anything grows. Doc thinks it may be irritation from a cold w/ fever she had a week or so ago…he said infections, even from a cold, can irritate the urinary tract. Who knew.
I am trying out some Shalimar Souffle Intense (worn once before) and Alien Essence Absolue (new to me) both from a kind NSTer. I am enjoying them and both have very good sillage.
And I am about to make myself a naughty sandwich with some deli meats which doubtlessly contain nitrates…lots of excitement in this house today.
The Souffle Intense and Essence Absolue are quite similar to my nose…variations on a theme of floral orientals I’d say…but yeah the drydowns, while not identical, are pretty close. These two also remind me of And The World Is Yours.
How do you think the Souffle Intense compares to the original Souffle? (contemplating the original one since it’s much cheaper and easier to come by and I am kind of coveting the LE peacock bottle from last year).
I have not tried the original soufflé. I’d be happy to send you a bit of the intense if you’re in the US. Email me at gmail where I am sherainsocal if interested please. The peacock bottle is beautiful.
Thanks! E-mailing you now!
Sorry to butt in here, but if you decide on the peacock bottle…

No worries! That was exactly what and where I was thinking of ordering!
Oh, I hope that your daughter is feeling better ASAP! Poor kiddo.
I finished up a sample of No 19 Poudre, so I’m smelling classic and lovely. I still have a decant of this too. For Frida Kahlo day, I plan to use the fruits and flowers that she painted as inspiration for perfume choice. I plan to participate Wed-Fri.
I love No 19 Poudree. Should never have swapped it away. Luckily, I have a couple of nice sized decants and I am going to look out to swap for it next swapmeet. Or might cave next time NM has a good beauty event.
No 19 Poudree is SO pretty!
Oh, good idea on the Frida Kahlo project! I might have to steal it.
Wearing the jungley green Mito today which seems Kahlo-esque. For some reason I really love this when it’s hot.
Another good call on the project. I think this is the second time recently I’ve come up with a project idea that I couldn’t translate into perfume!
I tried out a new body lotion sample (called Bum Bum Cream, which I’m sure someone finds cute) and it smelled so vanilla-ish that I had to go with Un Bois Vanille.
My 4th of July pool party for 12-ish people has somehow expanded to 25-ish people – wish me luck & enjoy your holiday!
Have fun at your party! You smell perfect for the day in Bum Bum and SL. ????♂️ ????
Thanks! We had a cancellation . . . but now someone else wants to bring a date. I guess we are fated to have a large party this year!
They make a body spray in the bum bum cream scent. If it were a perfume, I would buy it, it smells really summery. It’s quite expensive for just a body spray though.
I didn’t know they made a body spray! Anyone who likes vanilla/coconut/shea type scents would probably enjoy it. The lotion is nice but not heavy-duty enough for the desert summer, alas.
I found it at Sephora. I’m not a huge fan of coconut, and I thought it was very well done, not to sweet.
Good luck with the crowd at your party! Sounds like you know how to throw quite the bash. ????????????✨
I’m wearing Bulgari Thé Noir today. I gave in to temptation and went back to Marshall’s for it. It’s basically kind of a leathery rose-oud scent to me, which isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but i like it. It’s just a bit lighter variation on the theme, so it wears close to the skin after the first few minutes.
I saw this at Marshall’s too but restrained myself.
After the talk I gave in Wanaka last night we went to a pub and sat outside and the air was glittery with frost and the mountains were glowing white under the star light. It was beautiful. Wearing Dark Horse, the oil version.
Sounds beautiful! I am going camping next week on the Gaspé peninsula of Quebec, really looking forward to be out in nature. It will be cooler there too, thankfully.
That sounds so beautiful..
Oh how much I love Azemour!
And we are house twins Robin – I am in Le Cri de la Lumiere.
You smell wonderful in Le Cri.
I love the name Le Cri! But I will stick with my Azemour
Wearing Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache very lightly. It always reminds of driving to the Pacific NW coast and reaching the top of the Coast range with the cooler clean air and scent of the trees.
No tea today other than Gold Peak iced tea.HAGD
I have a sample of Cape a heartache languishing some where. You painted a very nice aesthetic!
Thank you!
Weird coincidence happened to me today. Yesterday, a couple of NSTers were discussing ELO. What should I happen to hear on the terrestrial radio station this afternoon but “Mr. Blue Sky”! Kinda weird, isn’t it?
SOTD = Tauer’s LAdDM, from the sample stash. It is glorious in the heat and humidity!!! Growl!!
I love it when those coincidences happen. It’s pretty cool.
Thanks to the discussion here, I knew what the song was almost immediately. I hadn’t heard it over the airwaves in a dog’s age.
You smell so good!
Thank you! Have you tried it in the heat of New Mexico yet?
Yes and honestly I love many of the Tauers even more in this dry heat!!!!
A Tuesday that feels like a Friday! I’ll take it!
Crazy busy day today. I basically was on the phone for 4 hours straight from 8AM on, did a working lunch, then had 4 more calls before leaving at a little past 4. I have one more call tonight….
SOTD = Puredustance Opardu
Why? It’s beautiful!
I was baaaad at the Hermes boutique. I now have Musc Pallida. I did not care for Cardamusc and with the money I saved from not buying it, I indulged in a luxe travel atomizer and the Twilly Shower Cream. I told you I was bad!
I’ll be around tomorrow and then will be away from Thursday to Sunday. It’s possible I may be off the grid due to poor reception and I refuse to pay for wi-fi as I will be out and about for most of the day and evening.
Bad but smelling really good! ????
OMG, silly typos but thanks…Opardu is soooo good!
Oooh, the Twilly shower cream sounds NICE! Even if you were being bad. ????
It is very nice, with a clean soft gingery spice.
Having a very lazy day and catching up on NST. Wearing Lancome O de L’Orangerie. Not fitting quite right, somehow. I will be wearing Shalimar…Mexique in spirit on Friday. It isn’t nearly work-appropriate enough. Maybe will put it on after work. Hubby always likes it.
Oooh, I did not think of Mexique! Will wear that tomorrow unless samples beckon!
Getting rid of samples again today. I had a small decant of Mitsouko that I finished off today. I appreciate it but will not be needing a full bottle. Had a good afternoon at work followed by happy hour with fun co workers. Glad it’s like Friday on Tuesday.
Sounds like you had a good day for sure. ????????????
Very busy today for me. I seriously paid for 2 days off last week and yesterday’s stat holiday. I don’t want to ‘adult’ anymore..lol
I’m wearing some essential oils on my wrists from Saje to try and induce a state of calm. My t-shirt has alot of Bronze Goddess emanating from it still from yesterday. It’s all quite nice. I think a long leisurely bath tonight with some Chanel No 5 body creme will help.
Have a safe and happy 4th tomorrow!
Bronze Goddess and No. 5….you ARE smelling great!
