TGIF and then some. It's also New Beer's Eve, and Tartan Day. Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of spring" fragrances (unless it's fall where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of fall" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
It is not even slightly spring where I am, and I am also out of town, again, with no perfume. When I get home this afternoon, I'll see if I can get into the seasonal spirit with Parfums DelRae Panache, from my 5 perfumes: vetiver fragrances for spring. And Jessica will be along later today with her Top 10 of Spring 2018.
Reminder: 4/13 will be Monopoly Friday. You Inherit $100....wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample or decant, but it could be from a bottle if you're planning to replace or stockpile) that you'll buy with your windfall. It has to be something you can actually buy for $100 or less! (If you never played the board game Monopoly, this is based on one of the "Community Chest" cards.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

*throws flower petals*
Awesome!
Nice one!
Lol!
Excellent! Bravo!
Monopoly Friday sounds fun!
I have been in Taz’s room, cleaning up. HOW HOW HOW can somebody, even a 17-year-old boy, live in such squalor?? Dirty socks, dirty cups, four ice-cream encrusted spoons, granola bar wrappers… He is supposedly “cleaning up” every Saturday morning of his entire freaking life, but really — NOT. The CEO went in there looking for dirty clothes and just blew his stack. So. I’m going to clean and organize and vacuum, so Taz is starting from Base 0 again… and I’m definitely presenting him with a bill for my labor at $15/hour.
I did not plan on doing this today. 🙁 Took five spritzes of Crown Bouquet just to cheer me up. And if Taz complains of his room smelling girly, he can SUCK IT. HMPH.
My son is 14, and we have so far avoided food in his room, although I find lots of wrappers in the tv/Xbox room. Our biggest issue is the dirty clothes – how hard is it to actually hit the hamper???
I KNOW. And the thing is, he has a hamper in his room and in the bathroom. Whatever he takes off in order to take a shower gets in the hamper. Why not these socks? They were under the bed, under the dresser, behind the dresser, behind one bookshelf or the other (yeah, he has two. I am only slightly embarrassed about that). I dunno, but I am Not Happy about it.
“he can SUCK IT.” Okay, I’m sorry, but I literally laughed out loud when I got to that part. Luckily I didn’t have coffee in my mouth. I hear you, and I have been there-literally! I did the same thing last fall when my son left for college and there was a small puddle of dried chocolate ice cream on the floor under his bed that I had to take a razor blade to.????Thank god for hardwood floors, I can only imagine how disgusting carpet would have gotten in his room. He did have an area rug that we just rolled up and pitched. They will look back and appreciate it someday….that’s what I tell myself anyway.
OH lord. Desiccated chocolate ice cream.
There’s only one more year before this kid heads off to college, and I don’t know how a roommate could stand living with him. Something has to change before that happens.
Mals86 – I honestly think it’s a natural part of the DE-tachment process for parents (both actually!)
I’ve been there. Hang in there! It gets better as you probably know, life has a big swat in on the bottom waiting for them…… move like a gentle nudge but just the same, a reality check well earned and much deserved!
(chuckling to myself)
…and I thought cleaning the cats’ litter box was bad! They at least have the excuse of no opposable thumbs.
Right!
I laughed SO hard at the catbox comment! Thanks!
I am laughing hysterically at this because my son’s room is the neatest in the house. The little piglets are his sisters who are older than him. Every once in a while I do what you do…go in and clean, clean, clean….then there is anger on their part for “invasion of privacy” LOL!!!! I just cannot stand walking in there and seeing the mess, though. I should do what you do, charge per hour…maybe then they will decide to keep it clean 🙂
LOL!
Bookworm, who is living here to save some money for grad school, has a room so disorganized that I literally walked in there this morning and walked back out shaking my head. And this not 6 months after I helped her clean it up post-moving back from college…
But at least her mess is mostly clothes, not dirty dishes.
Oh no the girls have dishes and food wrappers and all sorts of yuck in their room (they share which might explain a bit- double the mess)….I cannot walk in without wanting to clean and organize…even the clean clothes end up on the floor and then they are dirty again!!!!
Omg, really enjoyed reading your post and the responses below. I’m also a mom of two sons so feel your pain, although both of mine are now (mostly) out of the house – one to the service and one at college. I can only imagine the squalor in the younger’s dorm room… have never been there other than to move him in and am not invited to visit due in no small part to the mess, I’m sure (plus he’s only 45 minutes from home and stops home regularly : ) The worst thing I found between the two of them was a plate full of hardened spaghetti and sauce on a missing dinner plate in a drawer in the back of his closet. It was petrified – who knows how long it had been there! Not sure why my house wasn’t infested with vermin.
At any rate, miss my boys like crazy, but certainly not their messes! Love and patience to all!
Aw, you miss your boys! Mummified spaghetti, remember.
I know Gaze is keeping his dorm room clean, but that’s because he has to! He is part of a small corps of cadets (1100 students) within a large university (25K undergrad population) and he has daily room inspection. Hubs is a millimeter away from declaring that Taz will be joining the Corps at Va Tech too. (Which I think is a bad idea, to tell your kid where they’re going to school. But that’ll be an argument for another day…)
Not “remember.” I typed “ew.” Stupid autocorrect.
I think daily inspection with some horrible physical punishment like miles to run or push ups to do for failure to pass might be the only way to ensure a clean room for some kids (mine), lol! I know it worked with my oldest in the Marines : ) The part of his training I got the biggest kick out of – besides the important stuff, you know, was how to iron and dress fastidiously… and I MEAN fastidiously. Not a stray thread etc. Loved it!
Ah well, I have to confess to being a slob at home in my parent’s house also, but stopped that the minute I had my own place, so maybe there’s hope? Good luck with your Taz ; )
True, I was a slob in my parents’ house too. (Actually, I’m still not very neat. But at least I don’t leave dirty socks and dishes lying around.) He runs as his extracurricular, so… I dunno. Taking away his books, that’d be a punishment!
I worked up at Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier most summers I was in college. They had manditory room checks every week, supposedly checking for banned items like candles but also including copious notes on our cleanliness habits. Drove me nuts.
Until I saw what some of the men’s dorm looked like. Then it seemed like an act of pity on the guys who took care of things. Not sure once a week is often enough for some of them. . . Maybe it needs to be a before bed each night ritual instead?
Anyway, you’re WAY nicer than my parents would’a been. Pretty sure even at 17 I’d be grounded until you could see the floor shine . . . Hope he appreciates you. 🙂
He likes money. Giving it up is going to hurt him…
Ditto! My mother was the type who said “clean your room!” If it wasn’t done to her satisfaction, she ripped everything out of the closet and drawers, dumped it in the middle of room and said “now clean it right!” ????
Oh oh, I am getting a “NO WIRE HANGERS!”‘vibe.
Wait a second, you’re all telling me this only gets WORSE?!?!?! I thought I had it bad with my 5 year old’s Legos. Legos everywhere. Everywhere. Legos. But I’ll take that over petrified spaghetti and ice cream!!!
LOL… yes it gets MUCH worse ; )
????
Yeah, I used to make my kids put toys away before bed. Maybe that’s why they’re rebelling now???
Then there’s the smell. I didn’t have brothers so I thought the complaints about stinky teenage boys was apocryphal until I had one in my home. Then I thought it was just him until I walked into his school and was hit with the same stench walking into a gym full of teenage boys. Obviously they’re anosmic to it, but I was not, and it took about a year to get the smell out when he moved.
A YEAR?!?
I do a lot of after sports carpools. With the windows down. Even if it’s freezing….
Ha! Yes, had to do the same : )
YEEEEEESSSSSS. Yes. The smell. Gaze’s room still smells funky and he’s been mostly away at college since August. (And HE didn’t leave dirty socks in random places in his room.)
Oh, dear. I had an ex-husband with similar habits. I guess he didn’t outgrow it (but I outgrew him!).
Good for you!
????????????
Mals! $15 an hour? He’s getting a bargain. Charge him $25.
My mom tried various tactics with teenage me to try to get me to keep my room tidy. Nothing worked. So when my little sister hit her teen years, mom tried something new: room check twice a month and whatever she found on the floor or on top of a dresser that wasn’t supposed to be there got thrown out. All it took was my sister losing her favorite shirt and two record albums before business reigned.
Autocorrect fail. Tidiness reigned.
Yeah, I might have to up the rate. I’m already 3+ hours in and haven’t vacuumed yet.
I lived like that when I was a teen PLUS I snuck in a cat that my mom did not know about for almost a year.
Good times.
You win! I can’t imagine keeping a cat secret for a year!
Two friends of mine from college kept a secret kitten in their dorm room (not an apartment). I still don’t know how.
Cats are great because they really don’t make that much noise and are surprisingly content in a small space. I let her out when mom was not there but otherwise she was very quiet!
I like your style, Ede! ????????????
😀
You kept a cat a secret for a year! Amazing!
Mom only found out when she decided to look under my bed to see if I was keep snack dishes and tea cups there. Little Patsy mewwed at her and gave her such a fright!
That is seriously impressive!
Laughing out loud at this thread.
Why I shook my head when some women at some school wanted to be able to join a fraternity. They’d obviously never been in one. Horrifying.
Sigh. My husband’s side of our bedroom is a microcosm of this… wrappers, paper, empty soda bottles, napkins, socks. Drives me nuts.
Oh man. The CEO is the neatnik in our house.
same chez Marzipan…Mr. CM8 vacuums up to 3 times a day if there is too much crud on the floor…..I guess the men in MY house are the neatniks (although I am fairly neat myself)
But if the CEO is the neatnik…. why are you the one cleaning?
My MIL has three sons, this story sounds very familiar. I’ve always wondered how she didn’t wind up in the looney bin from all the chaos!
Aaaahahaha I have so enjoyed this whole thread. Poor mals. Yeah, $15/hr isn’t nearly enough.
My mother ran a tight ship. Absolutely no food on the second floor ever! Even if I had had a brother, I think his room would’ve been clean. She didn’t harbor dissent, so I kept things very organized. I didn’t actually have to clean, though—my mother has a hard time delegating, so she cleaned my room once a week with the rest of the house. (It took her a VERY long time to entrust the cleanliness of her house to cleaning people. It wasn’t until she turned ~50 and was physically no longer capable of cleaning the house every weekend that she finally gave in and hired cleaners. Now she just walks around behind them, telling them what they’ve done wrong.)
…I can see your mom doing that!
My kids are SUPPOSED to clean and vacuum their rooms every week.
When I was a teenager, I once came home to find every item of clothing and detritus that my mom had found strewn around my bedroom spread all over the front lawn.
My younger self was appalled and incensed at her audacity. My current self giggles and applauds.
This thread is both hilarious and cringe-inducing. The cringe inducing part is memories of Mr, Jalapeno’s bachelor pad. It was somewhere between city/county dump and Superfund site.
I can’t even…
Annick Goutal La Violette. I only reach for this in the spring, although we are getting more snow today! It’s a sweet light violet with a hint of green, and one of my early online purchases before I was brave enough to take on anything “big”.
La Violette is so pretty. You smell great!
That’s a pretty one.
Oh, I like that one. Very pretty!
That is a beautiful violet!
Sorry spring still has not come to you, Robin.
I am wearing lots of Chanel No. 5 in different versions: extrait, EDP, EDT and L’Eau. The effect is very uplifting! I still think EDT is the most appropriate for spring though.
Summer better get here, that’s all I can say!
And that is a lot of 5ness 🙂
Scent twins! Will be in the EDP today, although I think you’re right about the EDT being most spring appropriate. I may order a bottle, as I need to add it to my No. 5 lineup but just can’t seem to move beyond the gorgeousness (that is a word, right?) of the vintage EDP.
Never tried the vintage, but it must be luxurious!
You must smell incredible.
wow wow wow!
That sounds wonderful!
Sit next to me! Sit next to me!!!
🙂 🙂 With pleasure!
You’re smelling fab × 4! Agree, the EDT feels most springy (current version, anyway).
Dang! You smell WONDERFUL. You must have a great aura of scent everywhere you go today!
Yes, there is a great No. 5 cloud around me. Feels great! I keep smiling all day.
I’m attending a green-themed company party today and, appropriately, wearing a healthy dose of Mugler Cologne.
Yep, perfect.
You smell great! Can’t wait til it gets warmer so I can break out the Mugler Cologne too.
Me too! I save it for the really hot weather, so I don’t get sick of it too soon (as the really hot weather goes on forever where I live).
I’ve got to get some of this for the summer.
Cristalle
Last day of spring break for the kids today… Monday will be a good day
Haha. Right there with you. My daughter goes back to school on Tuesday. Love her to bits and also looking forward to my few hours of quiet each day. She’s a talker, an asker, a sharer, a performer, a singer, a laugher, an out-loud wonderer. And I work from home.
Also, I have never sniffed Cristalle. A shame because I love Chanel. Will have to rectify soon. Happy Friday!
Aww, your daughter sounds delightful.
She kinda is. I’m smitten for sure. 🙂
She sounds like a lot of fun!
Hope you and baby Buddha are feeling better!
We are feeling much better thank you! Mr L was a trooper this week to help take care of us
You smell divine.
You are sounding much better today!
Wearing Pretty Machine on one wrist and sampling 1A-33 which is also a linden scent on the other.
Oh nice, which one is winning?
The 1A-33 is more delicate with a little bit of woodiness while Pretty Machine is bigger, brighter and greener. Pretty Machine is just a happier scent to me
Good, because I already like Pretty Machine so don’t need to try the other!
Wearing LV’s Mille Feux – I love the raspberry sour tone.
That sounds nice — have not tried it.
I didn’t know this was tartan day, I should be wearing my Vivienne Westwood tartan jacket!
I’m in Le parfum de Therese by Frederic Malle. So modern, timeless masterpiece!
And don’t forget the combat boots! Perfect combo!
Yum, you smell just perfect.
Even though it’s creeping up on summer already in Houston, I’m still calling it spring. So I went with my sample of Muguet Porcelaine which I wouldn’t mind having a bottle of. One day maybe. 🙂
I am pleased with my tiny 15 ml!
I went with a spring favorite, Le Temps d’Une Fete. I don’t wear this often enough.
Love it too, wore it yesterday.
I was just thinking I should invest in a small decant……it is quintessential SPRING! Great Pick SheriG! I may join you but looks like my hand is reaching for Diorissimo!
The hand wants what it wants – don’t fight it. 😀
I regret never trying this one, mostly because it’s either hard to find or discontinued. I wish I’d realized sooner.
Great pick!
You smell wonderful, I miss La Temps very much 🙁 I have just a drop left in my bottle, not even enough to spray, I just take a sniff once in a while.
Love LTd’F sooooo much. Instant (and lasting) adoration.
I enjoyed Fleur de Peau so much yesterday, I’m wearing the last of my sample today.
Today is my Saturday and I’m off work for the next seven days. Woot woot! I survived the work week without last weekend’s dream coming to fruition. Saturday night I dreamt that I was sitting in a meeting at work and everyone sitting around the conference table was wearing Clinique’s Black Honey almost lipstick. What does that even mean?! So weird.
Happy Friday everyone!
I’m looking forward to trying Fleur de Peau – hoping for a lovely new skin scent. Your dream is a hoot, although not sure what it means. Sounds like a very chic office look : )
Yes, do give it a try. That is absolutely what I would call it- a lovely skin scent. I get the aldehydes and iris in the beginning and then the slight florals balance out the musks quite nicely to give it a little feminine edge. I got good longevity too. I’m looking forward to hearing what other people think.
Sounds perfect! Now I just have to make the trek to a mall that carries Diptyque – an hour’s drive but SO worth it once you’re there ; )
Have a nice week off and thanks for the recommendation!
I actually found it a bit skanky early on. I’ll have to give my sample a proper wearing, though.
That is such a funny dream! Not sure what that means. How were you feeling about that phenomenon in the dream? I almost bought that color a while back but ended up with the similar Chubby Stick in the raisin color which is a little brighter
Also, if you want to try some Noa, hit me up at pretsky 35 hot mail.
Well, I picked up my Clinique bonus on Friday and there was a little tube of black honey in it, so it was definitely on my brain. I have always wanted that color to work for me, given it’s “cult classic” status and all, but sadly it just doesn’t- and I’ve tried! I think my dream was probably me being jealous of everyone wearing it, and looking good! Lol.
Thanks for the offer! I’ll shoot you an email later!
Happy Vacation!
After yesterday’s small Adventures in Gender Politics, I spent aaaaages standing in front of my perfumes and regretting owning neither Aramis nor a (fake) bearskin rug, and that I had used up my Beaufort samples. Bandit or Fracas? Knize 10 or No.5? Fougere Yohji Homme or gauzy pretty Osmanthe Yunnan? Something full skank?
I gave up, and cut straight to the main point: Damn Rebel Bitches.
Aye, I can live with that.
(so, yeah, I forgot about the spring thing.)
That’s a great name for a perfume.
Isn’t it?! It’s named mostly for the women of the Jacobite Rebellion. Reek are a pretty fabulous mother-and-daughter founded company up here in Edinburgh. Both their scents (this one, and Damn Rebel Witches) are made by Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays.
These sound WONDERFUL. I need to look into them.
What happened yesterday in gender politics?
Full story on yesterdays SotD, but there was a bit of a moment at work with a colleague who has very fixed opinions about the type of scents a woman should wear: light, pretty, floral, clean. Mine, instead, are “mannish”.
And I am allergic to the word “should”. 🙂
I am also allergic to the word “should”. If anyone tells me what I should do, I will instictively try to avoid it, even if it’s something like “You should move out of the path of that charging rhino!”
Aye, there are downsides to being contrary. not many, mind…
Too bad you don’t have a smidge of Secretions Magnifique, wouldn’t that fix her little red wagon… 😉
I like your flavour of mischief 🙂
Joining you in being a contrarian. I have an allergy to “should” and unsolicited advice. Been that way since I was a kid.
I am pretty annoyed that scents are divided into “Fragrances for Her” and “Fragrances for Him” in so many search drop-downs. I get downright grumpy when there is not also an “All Fragrances” option.
YES.
Me too. And I have a few choice words to say about that. And by a few, I mean, sit down and make yourself comfortable because I can go _on_ about things like this 🙂
(see also: the pointless gendering of soft drinks, the marketing of sports-related foods and supplements, the distribution of pockets on clothing, toys, etc, etc, ad nauseam…)
That is all sorts of ridiculous.
Yesssssss!!! Really hoping your colleague, or anyone really, asks the name of what you’re wearing today 🙂
I was thwarted: she was away today!
Drat!
Phooey!!
I just realized something. “Phooey” was the first thing that came to mind, and then it occurred to me to actually look up the definition of phooey. Turns out I’ve been using it incorrectly for many years. 😯
Darn!!
Huh. I use it the way you used it. Just looked it up, though, and now I’m sad.
Ah, I think it’s one of those words that has shifted meaning with use into a general expression of rejection. There’s a grand tradition of this. So, phooey to prescriptive use!
????????????
That name is so full of awesome. YOU DO IT, crikey!
Beats telling someone you’re wearing “fat electrician” doesn’t it? It’s a good frag, too (though wears a little quiet on me.)
Or Marbert Man 🙂 (which I actually DO wear quite a bit as I have a decant of it at work )
I was trying to remember the name of your marlboro manly-man when I was writing about this yesterday.
I don’t know, I think I’d enjoy saying Fat Electrician almost as much!
I think you’re right: it _would_ be good. And certainly miles better than something inane like “candy sugar sweety pie syrup pop” or “very sexy for you”.
Maybe you should tell her what you’re wearing is called “Very Sexy for You” every time she asks 😉
SMH about your co-worker’s attitude re: perfume. Everyone smells things differently, and what works on one person could absolutely stink to high heaven on someone else. Wear what you like! And good for you on today’s SOTD!
Monserrat by Bruno Fazzolari. Other contenders for today’s theme were: JHAG Miss Charming, VCA Bois d’Iris, DSH Madonna Lily, and as Robin mentioned, Delrae Panache. Although I have fragrances that work for spring, I see my collection as a whole as primarily winter or summer.
Montserrat is always on my list. Such a cheerful one!
Wearing Queen of the night from the splitmeet. Its lovely, isn’t it?
Here in Barcelona lots of sunshine, welcome Spring!
You smell ENCHANTING Gabriela!!!! Lovely and then some.
Ha! Another mention of QotN. Were we all part of the same splitmeet? ????????
idk Jiji – my split was last year sometime (a bit of a blur as my mom was ill and I was staying w/her) but I should HAVE gotten more at the last one! We should remember this for our next one.
A quick hi-ya this morning–I have a few moments before heading to work, since I’m in meeting all day at another school!
Hi-ya!
I pay no attention to the weekly projects, but I imagine my SOTD is on plenty of lists–wearing Apres L’Ondee. I wanted something that I would notice but had reduced chances of annoying folks at the aforementioned meeting.
I wore this yesterday! I love the opening, but it’s barely a whisper on me after the first hour.
Same, otherwise I’d own a bottle by now.
Ditto.
Agree with the longevity issues. I spray it in my hair and on my clothes to help it last a while longer.
Tartan day? Oh did not know that, or else Id have worn my pretty awesome tartan dress (green and dark blue, with asymmetrical hemline). Weather is just perfect for it right now.
SotD is Vetiver Extraordinaire
This seems to smell better when sun shines. But then again, most things are better when the sun shines ????
I had a serious meeting this morning with my manager, so decided to wear something not too frivolous.
I wore Shangri-la last night, from a sample. Oh wowwww…..
It did not click with me first time I wore it (over a year ago) but now i think I need more of this in my life. Its quite sexy!
That dress sounds great. And you smell really, really good.
It took me a couple of tries to decide I NEED some Shangri-la!
Its pretty high on my to buy list now. ????
You smell seriously fabulous. Shangrila is on my “to smell” list.
I just broke out a sample of this to try. I think it’s probably lovely… but it doesn’t mix well with gorgonzola on toast. What was I thinking?
Now I wonder….is there a perfume that smells good with gorgonzola on toast?
Probably something fruity…pear or cranberry. (i am not a big gorgonzola fan but I imagine something sweet will taste good with it…).
Figs! Fat ripe figs taste wonderful with it. So do russet apples and walnuts. (tbh, this gorgonzola was a stinkbeast that would over power anything.)
p.s. your frock sounds great.
Ombre Dans l’Eau.
House twin!
Beautiful! I was going to wear Ofresia today, love Diptyque scents!
You smell gorgeous 🙂
Yep, Diorissimo is in the HOUSE!
I thought I smelled spring from someone
????
????
Yess(imo)!! ????
GOOD. It ought to be in every house.
NO THANK YOU.
lol! I have a bottle I’ve been trying to rehome.
Wafting La Danza Delle Libellule.
Apple, vanilla and cinnamon bliss for -12 C
Spring Indeed !!!!!
Ooh, that one is yummy!
I almost boycotted the spring theme due to snow and grumpiness after a week of toddler teething troubles, but I felt like a little Eau Rose (Diptyque) would cheer me up. It did! It’s a very happy pinkish rose scent.
As my sister said when I split my bottle with her: “I may not have a boyfriend or employer sponsored health insurance, but at least I’m gonna smell like a f*ing rose garden!”
I’m in love with your sister’s attitude!
Your sister must join this blog
+1
Ha! That’s great ????
Brilliant!
Aha,ha,ha!
Go nastywoman’s sis! ????
Yay, thank your sister, please, for cheering up my afternoon.
I like your sister <3
L’Eau d’Hiver, which really doesn’t strike me as very hiver-ish. It flurried last night, and it’s supposed to be 18 degrees tonight…great big grumpy face 🙁
Oh, I am grumpy right along with you!
Just remembered I have a little vintage Diorissimo courtesy of Alyssa Harad, and now it’s on me. It’s divine!
twins – well stepsister twins I guess as I sadly am NOT in vintage!
Go girl!
Triplets! We smell fantastic!
You all smell so very gorgeous…
Joining the group in vintage Diorissimo. We do smell amazing!
With all this lushness, Spring has to be getting here soon????????????
Quints, maybe? What a great smelling bunch!
????
Wearing some of Bulgari’s blue tea while I do chores. Might put on something else before I go out for errands ‘cos it only lasts an hour at best.
Smelling lovely while it lasts though!
Today I’m wearng Naomi Goodsir’s Iris Cendre. I have been on a serious iris kick lately.
So good. You smell amazing.
I am celebrating spring in Beige. I’m also doing our taxes, and it seems serious enough for finances but frivolous enough to dream of how to spend the refund.
we always have to pay..but I hope you do get a refund!
My husband insists that we always get extra withheld from our paychecks because he was horribly surprised by a big tax bill when he was a grad student and had no money to pay it. As a result, we always get a refund. Woo hoo!
Wearing my spring favorite, FM’s Eau de Magnolia. Speaking of FM, has anyone tried Music For A While? Not sure about those notes, but FM is a house that always works well for me.
Happy Friday!
I do not love it, and have yet to see a positive report here, although someone must love it and hope they will chime in…hopefully will review it next week.
The FM boutique SA just sent me a sample this week. I will try a wee bit this weekend.
Diorissimo!! Vintage. Perfect for a dreary, cold, rainy day (my least favorite weather). Happy to be able to spray with abandon and not hoard my precious precious drops.
Fantastic! I just have a little mini of that, unknown vintage, but it is wonderful.
Hello scent twin!
Well, it’s hardly even spring here, either, but we had a nice bit of sunshine this morning, so I spritzed on SL De Profundis, which always brings me joy. And I will keep spritzing through the rain and snow which is supposed to arrive later today (the sun has already disappeared).
This has been the coldest and latest spring ever! ????
Oh that’s a really good spring choice. Can’t believe I didn’t think of it. I will need to wear it tomorrow.
Hey Twin… Happy spring!
I was going to put on Vetyverio, but it’s way too cold and wet today for vetiver. So it’s the last of my Iris Ganache, to confirm that I don’t want any more of it. Yep, it’s quite meh.
PSA (does it count as a psa if it’s helping me?): Following à conversation here about it a couple days ago, I’m splitting Serge Lutens Vétiver Oriental. $119 for 50 ml on Fragrancenet; 10 ml decants in heavy-gauge atomizers for $29. Please email me at ko bhatta at gmayl if you’re interested!
Oh might have to join!
Excellent; so between you and therabbitsflower, we’ve got 20 mL accounted for, so the split is a GO, and I have purchased the bottle (lillyjo, you were right about consistent tactics to get that 37 % discount!!! I hope it keeps working).
It’ll take a while for the bottle to get here, so the split should be happening after I get back from France (in two weeks or so).
So that leaves two 10-mL decants available for anyone else who’s interested.
Glad the coupon trick worked!
Smelling amazing in Xerjoff Lira today.
A beautiful citrus vanilla.
Happy Friday!
Ooh, yum. I like that one a lot. You smell good!
Le Temps d’une Fete is Spring in a bottle to me, so that’s what I’m wearing today.
That’s a popular one today!
I adore that perfume, Spring in a bottle is so accurate. 🙂
Lots of rain here in the Bay Area today — waving to Koyel! — so Angeliques Sous La Pluie seems perfect. Except for the way it fades after half an hour on me 🙁
That one is nice but possibly the most fleeting thing I’ve ever tried.
Hey there fellow rain sufferer! Was your drive to work miserable, too? Or are you fortunate enough to be able to take transit to work?
I am lucky enough to work from home, so it wasn’t so bad. I hope you had a better trip home!
Happy Friday!
1) Software as service FINAL testing today- hopefully we will declare it over. UGH. I hate A/B testing.
1a) There will be final errors and bugs!
2) SOTD: Prada Iris. I was to the train on this, but once I got on board I was hooked. It’s as pretty as my Ivoire Balmain, and just as perfect for the office, but with more fresh powdery Iris and less sweet, which is great!
3) Misty rain and mild temps this weekend- which means taking down the weeds in my matchbox backyard and BUYING materials for doing the fence! WOOT!
Great choice with the Prada, it always seems so professional and classy to me. Good luck with testing and gardening!
So many comments already! I will have to catch up on lunch. I’m wearing Jasmin Rouge, trying to convince myself it’s very similar to the cheaper Gucci Bloom, but really JR is much more sparkly ????☄????⭐although I think Bloom last and projects better. Have a great day everyone!
You smell sooo good!
Yup, JR is better than Bloom imo. But Bloom is not bad at all!
Thanks! I really want to smell the new Bloom. But probably won’t see it here for awhile.
Still limited by the samples I brought with me. Sprayed Idylle Love Blossom abundantly, although my stuffy nose (allergies) can barely smell it.
Woke up to gray skies and steady rain. Decently warm out, so I suppose that’s classic spring…April showers. And I can see the pale peachy pink roses my mom planted years ago. I remember buying that rose bush with her. So pretty. Wish I had a scent to match it.
Oh! My sister bought Insolence EdP, so I’m gonna sniff that tomorrow and decide which one to get.
I preferred the EDP, myself (plus, bonus, I liked the purple bottle better).
Curious to hear your pick tomorrow!
Wow, NST is on fire this Friday morning!
I’m in Au Dela Narcisse today to celebrate spring. Turned cold and rainy here so very unspring like, except for the fabulous florals wafting from my bosom????
Happy Friday folks!
You smell fab!
I have a small amount left in my sample, going to save it for a workfree day 😉
You smell marvelous! I love that one. A Great choice, it captures Spring perfectly.
It is definitely spring here – cold, wet, windy, nasty, and rain rain rain. But nature is doing its thing. I went out yesterday to find tulips had bloomed overnight and they’ve joined dogwood, magnolias, camellias, daffodils, grape hyacinths, and the cherry and plum blossoms that line the streets.
In early spring I always crave violets, so here I am in Guerlain Insolence edt.
I remember spraying that one in a department store and getting 2 compliments from strangers before reaching the subway. You smell fab! I should get a decant if that
Great perfume. And dogwoods! Beautiful.
My SOTD is DS&Durga Siberian Snow. I know: not springy. But delicate and ethereal for a woody-balsamic fragrance. 🙂
I like the sound of your choice, based on the name. It would be a good match for that Herzog documentary about the fur trappers, Happy People ( which I loved).
I loved that doc and it would be a good match-name-wise anyway.
I really like the DS&D perfume names 🙂 I wasn’t wowed by either of their two scents that I tried though.
My SOTD is Le Temps d’une Fête by Nicolai Parfumeur mixed with a touch of Caron’s Fleurs de Rocaille. 🙂
It ain’t spring in Cleveland, it’s too cold out. I’m going with L’Heure Bleu today.
I went with Jacomo Silences today. Almost to the end of my decant. I need to get a bottle of that one of these days. I think you can find it pretty cheap.
You could wear it again next week since it will fit the next community project too. ????
Huh..it does. lol 😀 We’ll see if I have any left by then
Not spring here (grump), though so far our ‘atmospheric river’ rain event is more like ‘atmospheric puddle’. It’ll probably pick up later though.
Tweaked my back this morning (grump). Was I out catching wild horses? Moving a refrigerator? No, just brushing my hair. How lame is that.
So, it’s J’Adore L’absolu today as comfort for my nose, and a hot water bottle for my back. Yeesh.
Not so lame. I had a co-worker friend who hurt his back while he was shaving! It’s no joke when your back is out.
Take care. You smell great!
The most painful strain on my back was years ago (I was laid up for weeks!)–I was getting dressed.
I once tore my rotator cuff reading a particularly large book. Super sad. I hope the back improves quickly.
Yeah, I hurt my shoulder a couple of weeks ago putting away dishes. Hope you feel better, and if anyone asks, I’d just go with the wild horse wrangling story.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure my most severe neck pains have come from me turning around to look at something. Feel better soon!
I am nearly in tears reading this thread. LOLOLOL
My H threw his back out trying to look in the mirror recently. It took a couple weeks with the chiropractor before he could hold his head up straight again.
Tartan Day? Made me smile. My husband and all of his male cousins and family were married in their family (clan seems a little silly since most of them were lowlanders!) kilts. My husband’s kilt, which he wears at least once a year (and now more comfortably since it was “let out”) is an Ancient Hunting MacIntosh– family lore is that Rennie MacKintosh is not too many branches away on the family tree. At a recent family wedding my older son wore his grandfather’s Argyll and Sutherland regimentals, and looked quite dashing if I may say so myself (he’s a blue-eyed red head).
On to perfume.
Impromptu Splitmeet (following Koyel’s lead!) : Anyone interested in splits of M. Micallef Ananda?
Here’s Eaumg’s review: https://www.eaumg.net/m-micallef-ananda-perfume-review/
The Osswalds price is quite high, but Fragrancex has a 30 ml bottle heavily discounted. So figure $2.60 per ml, plus $3.50 for bottle and shipping, if you are interested (i.e.$16.50 for 5 mls, etc.) email me at ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
Such a blergh day outside that I want to wear something extremely happy. Am girding myself for the gym as my mom said she could come by for about an hour to be with my son, so don’t want to kill anyone with too much fragrance. It might be a light application of Pulp that gets me huffing and puffing on the stationary bicycles.
I used to treat myself to tea and scones at the Willow tearooms when I lived in Glasgow, and spent a lot of free time looking around the Mackintosh houses. I hope you have fun at the gym during your break.
I don’t know where the name for that perfume ACTUALLY comes from, but “ananda” means “happiness/joy” in Bengali 🙂 I’ve been tempted to blind buy a decant of it just for the name, but the notes sound like it is NOT my thing.
Yup. Ananda is a fruity floral… Seems to be my thing right now! I very much bet that the name comes from the Bengali (or Persian or Sanskrit–neither of which I have a clue about!)–happiness-joy is a wonderful perfume aspiration!
Lots of scent twins here today! I thought for sure I’d find mine in the list but not yet. SOTD is FM En Passant. Dreamy lilacs.
Yum! You’re right, it’s surprising that you don’t have a twin.
You smell gorgeous all the same!
I am nothing if not predictable. My CP spring scent is De Profundis. Ironically, it’s snowing here.
Snow, snow go away!
Give it all to Doris Day!
I probably should have gone with the opposite hemisphere and worn something for fall. I’m so annoyed with this crappy weather.
Totally random, but the mention of DD brought this to mind. I alway picture her and Rock Hudson chasing each other around the couch when I hear this tune. It just makes me smile ????
https://youtu.be/iRwvd-Cp0qo
Thanks for the smile Deva. I needed it today. TGIF!
More randomness. Last night I discovered on Amazon (prime) a “movie” entitled “Classic Movie Bloopers: Uncensored.” If you at all a fan of films made before 1960–you will enjoy this reel! Not exact as risque as “uncensored” promises, but it is fun to try and figure out which movies the clips are from–and who knew “nuts!” was such a popular exclamation in the 1930s? Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and Ronald Reagan apparently had some difficulty remembering their lines–they appear quite frequently.
Thanks, this sounds like fun!
You smell amazing!
It was supposed to be Diorissimo, I decided that it was the best representation of spring perfumes and planned to put it on. As I was applying my perfume (from the bottle!), I was inhaling the first whiffs expecting unmistakable lily 0f the valley… when I suddenly realized that I had Diorella in my hand.
I do not suffer: if I had to choose between these two, Diorella is my favorite. But it reminds me that I should be extremely careful if I have to drive before my first cup of coffee…
We had rain yesterday. More rain is expected today and tomorrow. I’m happy. And I wish everybody to get weather that makes them happy – if not this weekend then soon after.
Lol! Oh, well, but maybe you unconsciously really wanted that one. Anyway, I’m wearing enough for both of us ????
And you smell GREAT! 🙂
Hello everyone!
Here’s my week of Spring perfumes:
Mon: Hermes “Rose Ikebana”, rose and rhubarb, maybe more a late Spring scent but I love it;
Tue: 4160 Tuesday’s “Urura’s Tokyo Cafe” (now renamed Tokyo Spring Blossom), rose and violets, still a bit ambitious for the real living Spring outside;
Wed: Keiko Mecheri “Ume”, plum and a bunch of florals – still channeling a lovely idea of Spring but the real season outdoors remains disobliging;
Thu: “Romeo Gigli “For Man” – because I got fed up of perfumes that idealise Spring and reached for something thin and cold and sour which PERFECTLY matches the highly unsatisfactory Spring we are actually having, grrr;
Fri: Profumi di Pantelleria”, back to an ideal of Spring, maybe on a Greek or Italian Island.
Top: bergamot, lavender and rhubarb;
Mid: rum, carnation, iris, cardamom and coriander;
Base: cedar, vetiver and ambrette seed.
*Profumi di Pantelleria “Maestrale”
Hi there, Herr K. Maybe spring will turn up one day, hopefully. It always seemed to me that spring comes much later in Europe/Britain than it does down here, and the days were pretty bleak right up to mid-April. Hope you get some sun this weekend.
I wore Rose Ikbana yesterday, also aspiring to spring. I am not really an Hermes person, but I love this one.
Copious amounts of Apres L’Ondee, but it’s still barely discernable except for on my shirt sleeves. The benefit of wearing anything longer than a short sleeved top with this perfume is that getting it on fabric helps me to smell it longer. I only really reach for this in the spring.
Bas de Soie because I love it. A hairspray iris that I would wear in any season.
I’ve just been outside to look at the stars. The southern cross seems very close, above our house. It’s rained in the night and the deck is wet and cold against my bare feet. Pitch black, no traffic noise, no wind, almost silent except for a lone rooster crowing from somewhere in the valley. What a brilliant day already.
Sounds like you’re off to a great start. I’ve always wanted to visit the southern hemisphere to do some stargazing there.
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrande Chypre Mousse
This is a divisive one. This is a warming perfume perfect for cold spring days and works equally well for crisp fall days. This is one of the everything but the kitchen sink perfumes. Prediminnt notes to my nose: roasted chestnuts, vetiver, incense, spices and some flowers.
Thanks to those who responded to my Things that irk me comment yesterday. You validated what I thought – people exiting have right of way, with sime exceptions as LizzieB pointed out.
I procrastinated and have to do my tax returns this weekend! Am I the last one amongst the NSTers?
Ha! My person gathers and we send to a CPA. Not that our finances are so complicated but I am lazy and I hated how worked up he got about it, so we handed it over to a professional.
And you totally had the right of way yesterday.
AND I love Chypre Mousse!
Yay! A fan of Chypre Mousse. I’ve never had an accountant do my taxes!
I’m 100% behind you with the Chypre Mousse love!! Lovely stuff and you smell amazing! Good luck with your taxes????????
Thank you! I was originally going to wear No.19, then thought about something floral either Wit or Opardu. It was cold this morning and I thought something warming like CM is more appropriate.u
Love Chypre Mousse, particularly on these cold damp days. I came very close to buying a big damn bottle bottle when I was at the shop last week–but was dithering back and forth between that and the Reve d’Ossian I finally went with. And then the chap there was generous enough to give me a travel spray of CM. Huzzah!
Wow! Lucky you! I began my splitting “career” with Chypre Mousse. I have to decide if I need a BUB in case it gets refo’d.
Yep! (When I was saying how every other sales person and perfume shop I had encountered in Paris had been super lovely, I wasn’t kidding. And I fully expect to order a bottle of CM before I’m half done with that freebie–particularly if I can find a UK person to split with.)
Nope. I think that Mr. Jalapeno will be presenting the tax forms for me to sign on April 17.
LOL. It almost feels like an effort to be last!
Oh gosh, my fat fingers spelled predominant wrong!
You are not the last NSTer. I’ll be joining you in that endeavor this weekend!
I hope I have all my paperwork so I can zip through it!
Hajusuuri, this year was the first year I was responsible for my own taxes (my father has done them for me until now, but now that I have a real job, he very reasonably informed me that I am on my own). My finances are simple, so I used Turbotax two or three weekends ago. Absolute best use of $130ish EVER.
That’s like a rite of passage! I am using TurboTax and will save time on having to enter a lot of the personal, work and investment data that is already there.
You smell fab! (IMO, it’s too warm here already for CM.☹️) …And I didn’t chime in yesterday, but add me to the list of votes for exit-ers having the right of way!
Thanks and totally agree that CM needs cooler temps! Also, yay for your vote!
Not touching the subject of that perfume ;), I kind of did my taxes already (always TurboTax), but I plan to go over one last time this weekend hoping to figure out one small detail.
Yesterday I was extremely busy but I want to contribute to your poll. I always thought that the exiting person has a right of the way because inside (whatever it is) is smaller than “outside,” so it makes sense to make more room, so to speak, first. I’d make an exception if it’s an exit to the street, and it’s raining/snowing heavily outside.
I’m wearing Wit today. A friend brought me some daphne blossoms from his bush and I remembered I hadn’t worn Wit in a while–a year on April 17, from my records. It’s still very sweet and I only used two tiny spritzes. I might rehome this.
Wit is pretty!
It’s interesting: I do not smell that much sweetness in Wit.
Wearing Boronia, which must smell different to me than to many others. To me it hay and yellow flowers, so spring like! Others get lots of booze, which I don’t smell at all!
I don’t get any booze. I get boronia, which reminds me of cranberry. And then it gets a bit drier.
Yeah I don’t know what Boronia smells like!
Ripe cranberries is the closest comparison I can think of, or thick raspberry jam
It’s odd as it isn’t that sweet on me either. I get a dusty slightly sweet flower and green. Go figure.
Tartan Day and New Beer’s Eve are a good combination, no? Especially on a Friday!
My top-10 Spring scent for today is Chant d’Arômes.
Ha, I just had a vague thought about wearing one of the tartans in my family history and was suddenly hit with an idea: What would it look like if I tried to wear parts of traditional dress from all sides of my ancestry at once?!? It would be, erm,…interesting.
Have an excellent Friday, NSTers!
I don’t think I have ever smelled this one! I have to remember to try it the next time I’m at Bergdorf or Saks!
Definitely give it a sniff! It’s some distance away from Chypre Mousse, for example, on the chypre continuum, as it’s light and very floral.
I will text the Bergdorf Guerlain SA to include this in the samples she’s sending me tomorrow.
Not a favorite, but in an attempt to smell Spring-y, I chose Balenciaga L’Eau Rose today – one of last year’s impulse buys at Marshall’s. I like the opening and it indeed has a green facet that feels like Spring, but the drydown is that generic scratchy woody smell that grates on my nerves. I’ll need to spray something else soon.
The bottle is so pretty though, I can understand the temptation!
Aw thank you, kpaint! That does make me feel a little better 🙂
Morning, all, very late for me, after a bad night full of troublesome dreams about nothing at all that somehow manage to seem profound and portentous at the time. Ugh.
I’m not on project at all. My box of Fort and Manle samples arrived yesterday— very elegant presentation, by the way; I was impressed— and I’m trying out Fatih Mehmet Sultan, which promises to be my favourite. I really like it. I also enjoyed Gaynor’s favourite, Suleyman Le Magnifique and I lov d the dry down of Amber Absolutely. I wonder if I need a bottle of Fatih? I suspect I might. I’d love to support a serious Australasian perfume enterprise: they’re making every effort with both the perfumes themselves and the bottles to satisfy on more than one level. The backstories for the perfumes are actually perfectly acceptable, too; not excruciatingly over-wrought at all.
Well, housework awaits. I must go and apply myself to the steam mop. I cleaned up after the cats raid on the fridge, obviously, but the tiles still look smeary, and Eric keeps sniffing hopefully all around where the bunny came to rest. Clearly some bunniness lingers on….be very well, all.
Qinhabe a sample of this somewhere. I picked it out a lineup on the name alone!
Eh? Qinhabe = I have…dear spell check – you correct just about everything else but how did this even happen with Q way over to left ad I on the right?
SOTD = vintage Diorissimo EdT, from the sample stash. I have about 1/2 mL of this gorgeous stuff. However, I am not going to hoard this, since the thought of it turning makes me want to cry. Better it go out being worn and loved!
Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I have had the good fortune of acquiring about 80 ml of vintage EDT. Happy to share with you!
Ptetsky 35 hot mail
It’s autumn and already Saturday here so I am having a match off of Féminité de Bois with Shisedo on the left arm and Lutens on the right. My mini of Shiseido is getting low and I’m trying to decide what to do about it ; )
Is it just me or is it gloriously spicy, cedary and slightly fruity in here?
