Happy World Sleep Day, and happy Amber Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with an amber note.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Hermès L'Ambre des Merveilles. It's about as heavy on the amber as I generally go. Most of you will out-amber me today, I'm sure.
Reminder: on 3/23, to celebrate the equinox, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's colors from the Spring 2018 report for New York.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès L'Effet Domino tarot cards are $140.
Lancome Tubereuses Castane again today
sorry I don’t have any amber fragrance
Hey, never any need to be sorry!
I was gonna wear SL Ambre Sultan but a quick pre-spritz confirmed my worry that it wasn’t exactly work-friendly, so I went with CSP Vanille Ambre instead: its soft, sweet, plush, warm, cozy, friendly demeanour is unlikely to offend anyone.
I’m forgetting, what is CSP?
Comptoir Sud Pacifique
Comptoir Sud Pacifique, whose stock in trade is vanillas.
Oh that is perfect for work. You smell very office appropriate and friendly! 🙂
Uh oh, I’m not office friendly today! I’ve got Ambre Sultan dabbed on my arm. Not that I care….my poor office mates haha! Although in my defense, I have an office to myself and do not actually share one with anyone!
Having my own office is one of my top career goals 😀
I’d like to pretend it isn’t that great, but it really is lol
I love Ambre Sultan! Was going to pick that one today but chose SOTD is Reminiscence’s Ambre instead.
I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve sniffed Ambre Sultan. I can’t believe I don’t have a decant of that! Sheesh.
I can’t believe I recently sold mine… Though I was proud of myself for doing so at the time. Every bottle out is a victory.
Oh no! Well, I hope it made room for something else great 🙂
I can’t believe it’s not butter!
I just had to…
Omg, World Sleep Day? Sign me up! Actually, I’m off of work today and the kids don’t have school so I did get about an extra hour and a half of sleep, which felt glorious.
SotD is Ambre Precieux. It’s the last of my little decant- which was evaporating right before my very eyes- and though I’m sad to see it go, I still have lots of samples I need to wade my way through. I’m guessing I might have some twins out there today?
Happy Friday!
Sign me up too. Enjoy your day off!
World Sleep Day is a day I can definitely get on board with…
I haven’t decided yet, but I will probably go with Bruno Fazzolari’s Ummagumma today.
Such a great one!!!
Gorgeous perfume!
Had I any, I’d wear Lauder’s “Intuition” for men. it’s really nice, despite the terrible review in the Turin/Sanchez book. As such, well gosh…I get plenty enough amber from L’Air de Rien for it to qualify, so there! A little sock musty, but I think this is the occasion.
Sounds just right for today.
I seem to celebrate World Sleep Day by feeling sleepy today. 🙂
SOTD is SL Ambre Sultan. Yum!
Twins!
Triplets!
Yes! You both smell awesome, as do I! 😉
I have totally out-ambered you today, Robin. PdE Ambre Russe all the way! ????
I almost chose that one today
Me too! Twins!
Yes you have!
Triplets!
That sounds pretty intriguing! I will be sure to try at LuckyScent Scentbar next week!
L’Ambre des Merveilles
Love Amber week!
Hey twin!
Hey twin..we smell good don’t we?
Estee Lauder Modern Muse.
The weather here is very gray, appropriate for World Sleep Day. I wish I could have slept longer this morning.
Happy Friday!
A whole day in bed sounds about right!
Wearing Il Profvumo’s Amber d’Or today.
I am a sweet, ambery, balsamic mess, and I love it.
But you smell GLORIOUS. I love that scent!
TGIF! I was going to wear Chergui, but couldn’t resist trying the Diptyque Tempo travel spray I just received in the mail. To me, it is a dry patchouli that is well behaved and a little cocoa powdery. I usually don’t go for patchouli-centric scents but really like this.
PSA: if you google ‘free samples diptyque’ you should be able find a Diptyque facebook post that promises to send you samples of Tempo and Fleur de Peau if you provide your mailing address; note there’s a change they have run out of stock.
Thank you for the tip! I was able to request these samples on FB!!
Woo! I hope we both get them!
Ug! Too late – you put the bug in my ear – so I sent them an email – will see if that produces any samples in my mailbox 🙂
Fingers crossed for you. Some companies are surprisingly nice about sending you samples.
Almost twin..I’m in Chergui.
Hahaha you smell wonderful 😀
In Ava Luxe Ambra Tibet, one of my favorite ambers.
Celebrating World Sleep day by drinking my 3rd of coffee in a big effort to keep myself awake. TGIF! ????????
3 cups! You can do it!
Ava Luxe has so many wonderful scents. I recommend their Vanilla Musk ( Tihota Dupe) and Moroccan Mint.
The Moroccan Mint Tea scent is amazing. I have tried many from the line. Cafe Noir, Milk, Sweet Absinthe are also fantastic. I still need to give a try to Vanilla Musk.
She is very talented; I love her figs (she has several from green leaf to whole tree).
Ambre Sultan – The King (Kong) Of Ambers. 😉
Or “Hombre sultan” as my phone likes to call it 😉
I like hombre sultan better!
You smell wonderful.
World Sleep Day? Yaaaaaaaaaas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring it on, baby!
Wearing Clean Reserve Amber Saffron, delicate and soft. Good stuff!
Have a great weekend everyone!
I tried explain world sleep day to my kids…they didn’t get it! Better luck next year..
Kids and pets NEVER get it! LOL!
Happy Firiday!
Note Vanillee today.
not just Firiday it’s also Friday. 🙂
But I love Firiday!!!
I’m in Alahiiiiiiiiiiiine today. Didn’t know it was World Sleep Day – if I had, I might have indulged in that extra hour in bed that I really wanted this morning. To heck with my job! 😉
You smell lovely. If I weren’t flat in the bed sick I’d be in Alahine today.
Sorry you’re sick, mals. I hope you feel better soon!
Feel better! Btw I managed to acquire an older (clear glass) bottle of Alahine and your are right that it’s way better than the current version!!
Hope you are feeling well ASAP!
Also in Ambre des Merveilles today. I’m not really an amber fan but this one hits the spot.
hey twin, we smell great don’t we?
Triplets! One of the few scents where I complimented in public and asked what I was wearing.
In that case I will spray some more on before I go out!
I’m wearing Alien essence absolute. The notes say white amber. Does that really mean anything, smell wise? 9 hours to go, then I’m getting a rare weekend off, yay! Happy Friday everyone!
Yay! Enjoy your weekend off. You deserve it! ????
Enjoy the weekend off, lillyjo!
Have a great weekend lillyjo! Enjoy!!
Hurray for a weekend off, Lillyjo! ????
I don’t have any amber, I just never found one that hit the spot. Layering Diptyque Tam Dao with Eau Duelle (edp) today. Smelling spicy and delicious!!
That sounds great!
Great combo!
World Sleep Day? Not for this girl. I’m soooo tired! It’s tech week for the ballet company I work with, and all these late nights have finally caught up with me. Performances tonight and tomorrow and then (maybe) sleep will be an option.
SOTD is Violette Sacree. I’m not much one for amber.
Hope you can get some rest and enough sleep soon!
On stage or backstage, tech week is hell!!
A hell that I love, but hell nonetheless.
I have my yearly mammogram later today, so no perfume (or deodorant) for me today. However, I grabbed my mini of Youth Dew Amber Nude and put it in my purse.
That’s good planning.
Mammograms can be an occasion to do something nice for yourself after. I always feel out of sorts after those kinds of appointments and want to restore balance and order with something pretty like a new lipstick or a nice soap
Totally agree! Self-care should be followed up with a self-reward! 🙂
I think having a nice supper/glass of wine may be a nice treat for post-procedure.
Definitely agreeing that you should do something nice for yourself after making it through your mammogram appt!
Ambra Aurea by Profumum Roma
Its gorgeous.
The sprayer from my sample vial is half broken but I got a few drops from it and thats enough (well at least for an office environment haha).
You smell fantastic! And yes a few drops is plenty for work….
Thank you!
I wish Profumum offered this in a perfumista friendly travel size (like Ichnusa ad Acqua di Sale….and a few others, you can get them in 18 ml sprays)….but no….i dont think they do.
I may need a decant or arrange a split one day.
I decanted my bottle into a small rollerball for more precise application, as Ambra Aurea is quite potent.
MFK Grand Soir, quite a lot of amber and just gorgeous so I want to wear it all the time anyway! Went to Neiman-Marcus this week and tried several of the other MFK scents including Lumber Noire and APOM. Oh my, the former totally killed my nose with rose. Ick! The latter seemed rather non distinguished until about 5 or 6 hours later when I kept sniffing my wrist wondering what I had put on there. It’s got some possibilities, that one!
Darned autocorrect invented another exotic perfume, “Lumber Noire”! Sometimes I swear it changes things just at the moment when I hit the Reply button. Of course, I meant “Lumiere Noire.”
hahahaha! I thought that was a new woody perfume that I hadn’t heard of.
I’m going to have to start a list. Thus far I have “Mutton in the Garden” and “Lumber Noire.” I’m sure more will appear before too long!
I hope so, they make me laugh????
Don’t forget to add Coin-op’s “Hombre Sultan” to the list!!
My Cuirass Beluga from a few years ago…
I swear, I would buy it!
Lol! I prefer Lumber Noire though oddly I read it as Lumiere out of habit.
Hysterical Hajusuuri!
You smell divine! I think I will be finishing my sample of that one today 🙂
I really wish I’d never sniffed any MFK…. 🙁 I felt Lumber Noire was a bit perfume-y at the beginning and ended up being a more polished or polite PoaL. I have not yet tried APOM but it’s going on my list. Grand Soir only got sprayed on a card and it didn’t grab me when I was at the counter though I’m going to get some and put it through its paces. The one that hooked me in and won’t let go? OMG Oud Satin Oud.
Yes yes, I tried out all the Oud fragrances from him and that one was YUM at first sniff! I purchased a pretty large decant of it. DO try Grand Soir, it’s to die for.
I agree with you about MFK Lumiere Noire…I do not care for it at all, but I love APOM and Grand Soir is truly grand.
I thought “Lumber Noire” was one of those ironic names for a perfume that smelled woody or perhaps of pines. (lol) I still have much to learn. 🙂
I was on NST for months before I figured out Box of Eels…
Oh me too!
I still haven’t, waaah!
Bois des Iles 😉
Mystery solved. 🙂 Thank you. 🙂
Hey twin!
Wearing my one and only amber today, from a tiny 1mL sample. Ambra Nera from Farmascia S.S. Annunziata. I’ll eventually use this, since there are probably only about 2-3 more applications in the sample, but I do not feel the need to own any amber. I just don’t like it very much.
That’s one of my favorite ambers! I really only like/crave amber in the Fall.
All my ambers are 10,000 miles away, so I’m wearing Coromandel and pretending it’s amber.
You can pretend anything you want when you smell that good !
Of course I would have insomnia on World Sleep Day. Maybe I’ll take a nap later….wearing DK Gold (spring amber!)
I’m with you! Haven’t had a good night’s sleep in a week. Feeling rather desperate, but for the moment I’m consuming some caffeine in an effort to make it through the day.
If you can tolerate it, have some sake. Drinking this makes me oversleep the next day. I overslept this morning, too, but only by 30 minutes.
Believe it or not I’ve never tried sake. But I thought alcohol was supposed to make you not sleep well?
Have it with your evening meal. I’ve never had a problem falling asleep after drinking (not that I imbibe often).
Not to worry, I slept an additional 2 hours for you today….now in a panic to catch up with the day.
Ormonde Jayne Tolu……sample from generous NST’er!
I did it! I’m participating in Amber week 🙂
Tolu is lovely, very warm & sophisticated, I love it. If spring weren’t on the horizon, I would strongly consider getting a decant.
I see on fragrantica many say that Rochas Absolu is very similar – anyone have any thoughts about that?
I can’t answer your question, but wanted to comment on Tolu. I used to love it, but had a sad accident with one of the small travel tube sprays that I had in my purse. The lid somehow came unscrewed and it leaked out all over everything; it reeked so strongly that I no longer want to wear it. I hope after some more time has elapsed I can still enjoy it. (I have two more of those black travel size sprays.)
The same thing has happened to me with Twilly – my sample leaked in my desk drawer; now whenever I pull out a pencil or chapstick it smells like Twilly; I will never wear Twilly again.
that is a shame, I totally understand. I think I would be repulsed by any perfume that was diffused to that extent.
what did you do with your purse and the contents?
I cleaned and wiped everything off as well as I could and aired out the purse’s interior for quite a while until it dried and the odor calmed down.
Since I’m pretty used to finding all of a sudden that something I am wearing smells of cat pee (my athletic shoes, a week ago!), this remaining part of Tolu didn’t bother me so much. I have had to throw some things away that the cat ruined, alas. He’s an old cat and very very sweet but he loves to go in my closet and investigate new places to spray…. Lucky for him he’s such a love-bug.
You smell fab! I almost wore that today, but it tends to grow after an hour. Thought it might be too much for work.
Also can’t say about the Rochas but your Tolu post just inspired me to put that on my other arm – I have Musc Ravageur and Tolu competing for my attention now. To me Tolu has a lot more floral in the opening stages at least, and MR is more cinnamon and overall gourmand. Not sure that helps or not!
Calypso, sorry about your Tolu mishap – a leak in a purse can make for a very bad day! I bet that purse is permanently Tolu-ized.
Coin-op, thanks for the reply re: Le Labo (thread maxed out on replies). I’m very interested in the iris one!
Please report your findings! and if you smell others I’d love to know your impressions too
Will do!! The only one I have been able to try was Cuir, kindly sent to me by a lovey NSTer. I found it a bit harsh and tarry in the beginning, need to spend some more time with it though.
I love Tolu. I think you smell great.
I like and wear Tolu. You smell great!
A decant of Bond No 9 New York Amber is out for delivery today. Looking forward to trying it. Also ordered a sample of MFK Grand Soir-lemming. Have a great Friday and weekend!
I love Grand Soir! I have a well-loved decant I should finish off so I can sit around wistfully considering a FB purchase. Yum yum.
I figured I wouldn’t be alone in Ambre Sultan, and indeed I’m not. My bottle is over 10 years old, with maybe 15 ml remaining, and I’m starting to hoard it a little, as I’m not sure a new bottle will smell the same.
Happy Friday!
I’m wearing it, too and my bottle is about 10 years old. But I’m not hoarding it – I love it too much.
Here’s to Amber Day!
I think we all have that worry, Ambre Sultan is my first bell jar and I’m so glad I pulled the trigger all those years ago. It’s my go-to comfort scent.
I lucked into a cheap bottle of HdP Ambre 114 on eBay, and I’ve been enjoying that too. It’s similar-ish to AS, but with a vanilla note and a little less of that in-your-face quality.
Ambre 114 is another amber gem. It’s lovely, and very easy to wear.
I should try that, as I do find AS just how you describe it here. A bit too much turpentine or Pine-sol.
My bottle is probably about 7 y.o. – and smells great.
I only really crave ambers in the 20 days of Fall we ever get. They just seem to be perfect with brisk, cool air and crunchy brown leaves. Went with a small dab of SSS Winter Woods to play along today. I really like its early phase, but then tends to go a bit beyond my sweetness tolerance.
Yes! this is when I like my amber samples best. Tragically short in Vancouver.
You smelled great!
I do not have enough “winter” to wear all my winter perfumes 🙁
I’m in the ambery-cinnamony goodness that’s Organza Indecence.
Yay, so glad it made a showing today!
I’ve been hoarding bottles of this! It and Barbra Bui are my comfort scents. You smell marvelous 🙂
I am in Musc Ravageur today which I’m enjoying tremendously more than I did when I first bought it.
Such a lovely perfume- it is getting so hard to find the vintage formulation. The newer stuff, while nice, just doesn’t ring my bell;)
I was totally going to participate today but my March purchase of The Pour Un Ete came last night and must be worn.
I am on such a Giacobetti kick; I find her fragrances do more to my emotions than any others (even if the emotion they create is mostly “gentle longing”.) I’ve been to Paris so there are lots of places higher on my list for travel… but I might have to bump it up on my list JUST to go to Iunx. Has anyone been? How would you describe the fragrances? (Are they, like I’m imagining, even wilder than her commercially available offerings?)
The Pour Un Ete is one of my favorite L’Artisans, but it lasts all of 1/2 hour on me. 🙁
The few I tried, ages ago, were more wildly ethereal? Hope someone else will chime in, I have not tried enough.
SsotD = L’ambre des Merveilles + Ambre Narguile
Amber x 2 because it’s Friday!
I agree with Robin, L’ambre is about as big as I can go for now. To enjoy it best I spritz it up in the air then walk through the perfumed cloud.
The spicy deliciousness of AN is easy to love, I dab it on my wrists and then sniff-sniff-sniff throughout the day.
It took many years for my nose to come around and enjoy amber. NST helped me along the way. Looking forward to reading everyone’s choices today and learning more.
Amber can be REAL loud- she doesn’t mean to be, though. tiny spritzs or walking through a cloud is best.
Exactly! I wish I had found the walk-through-the-amber-cloud move years earlier. I passed on so many ambers that might have worked if I had applied differently.
BK Amber Oud. Magnificent. Happy Friday!
Hi, Springpansy — just wanted to let you know I found a copy of the M.M. Kaye mystery and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I ever grow up, I want to be (and smell) just like Persis! 😀
You’re wafting magnificently today!
Twins! We smell lovely!
You smell wonderful! Love Amber Oud (I wore it too a couple of days ago).
Stuck on a train back home due to some accident on the way. At least I smell good. Jacques Fath Bel Ambre is lovely
Please be safe!
Dashed off to work early without any perfume, but the desk drawer sample supply came to rescue: I’m wearing Bottega Profumiera Gourmand – a sweet vanillic amber.
Wish I could smell all you wonderfully scented peeps today. Happy Friday (and it couldn’t have come a moment too soon)!
*hugs you and inhales deeply* Oh, how lovely
Aw, much needed and deeply appreciated! *hugs you back*
I still haven’t smelled that one, must give it a go, amber scents are among my favorites.
I’m down to the end of my sample; shouldn’t _even_ contemplate a bottle, but…
Happy Friday, guys!
1) It’s also Transit Driver Appreciation Day! Somehow, these amazing people get up at 2-3 AM in the morning and carpool so that they can get metro areas moving.
2) SOTD: Showered with Ambre Nera and layered on with the recently discontinued Rive d’Ambre, which is mostly a citrus but has a real amber base. I get an aura of citrus, soapy incense and amber. Very nice.
3) Of course, leaving it to the last minute and planning out my LA trip: I think the following is good for a week :
4-5 neighborhoods to walk through- Silver Lake/ Highland, Santa Monica/Venice, Burbank (where my friends live) and Pasadena
Shopping: The ScentBar, Detox Market, DTLA (for various goods) Mohwak General Store, Undefeated, Wasteland, Maxfield, Skylight Books and Shareen Vintage.

Griffith Observatory
I am staying in West Hollywood, so of course I will have a chance to eat out BUT probably gonna keep it clutch until dinner with friends.
Any suggestions? (Beverly Hills is anathema.)
Have a good time! I just went to LA in December 🙂 if you like fossils, may I recommend the La Brea Tar Pits? (the the tar tar pits? excellent redundant naming) And the Huntington Gardens are gorgeous.
I was thinking of Huntington Gardens- perfect for early spring, I think. They also have a rare books collection, which could suck up an entire afternoon.
Huntington gardens used to have a high tea on offer that was really really good – fancy, tasty teas, unlimited scones that were warm and fluffy, and those cute sandwiches. If that’s still done, I would recommend getting a reservation!
My husband also calls them the tar tar pits! One of our very favorite places in LA.
I’m all ambered out today with Ambre Sultan on the left arm and Nobile 1942’s Ambra Nobile on the right. I obviously love Ambre Sultan but this is the first time I’ve worn the Ambra Nobile and I really love it. It’s not too sweet- it’s a little sharp and woody which I love. I’m reeking for sure, but in a good way! When my fiance hugged me goodbye (he’s home for the weekend) this morning he said, “Damn, you smell good!” 😀
That’s the best kind of perfume compliment ????
You must love writing “my fiance” now… 🙂 Enjoy this special time!
Ha! I do!!! I smiled when I typed it earlier!
“Damn, you smell good!” ((c) KellyC’s fiance) 😉
World Sleep Day! No wonder it was so hard for me to wake up!
Ambre Narguile from my gorgeous new(ish) bottle! 🙂 Finally participating in Amber Week. I don’t know why I waited until today to amber it up; I love amber and have a zillion amber scents. Something about this rainy week just made me not feel it. But AN is always gorgeous and wonderful, even when it’s not quite what I am looking for.
Looking forward to the swapmeet tomorrow 🙂 It is my favorite of the three meets.
World Sleep day? I need to go home and get back in my jammies. 😉
SOTD is Reminiscence’s Ambre, I love the dry down of Labdanum, benzoin and musk, it’s so warm and cozy. And finally, Friday is here, yesss! 🙂
FriYAY! And at the moment, we have a glimpse of sun before the rain starts again! Hello Mr Sun!
SOTD is SSS Amber Incense. And no, I’m definitely not done with amber week here. Ha
You smell lovely! I adore scents by Sonoma Scent Studio!
Sampling Ambre Narcotique from Sultan Pasha. This is amazing, amazing stuff. Subtle, rich and encourages taking sniffs that open the ribcage.
One of his creations **literally** gave me a narcotic experience, unlike any fragrance ever. The iris one I think. I have only a tiny bit and I’m almost nervous to try it again. Others from him, I was really disappointed that I was so disappointed by (if that makes any sense?). I’ve not tried this one but you’re making me want to.
Was it Irisoir?
Thats an amazing iris, warm and cosy, almost ‘huggable’ 🙂
Yes!! Irisoir. I was going to do it on the very last day of February to wrap up Iris Month with Undina but… something happened and I don’t think I wore anything that day. Different than any iris (and perhaps any scent, period).
I did the amber yesterday with Terry de Gunzberg’s Ombre Mercure, which I love. I didn’t feel like wearing my Ambre Precieux either so today I am wearing SL’s Un Lys.
That’s a bottle I wish I had not sold on eBay. I pulled a lot of iris – do you smell iris in Ombré Mercure?
Yes, I do detect iris which must be why I like it so much.
I must have known it was World Sleep Day, since I got about 9 hours last night. I always want to congratulate myself when I get a good night’s sleep, so yay, me!
My plan is to dab on just a tiny bit of Ambre Fetiche parfum, and head to the gym.
Yay you, and double yay for making it to the gym.
I’m in Gucci Guilty Black today. Basenotes says there’s amber in the base, but I don’t have enough experience to know if that’s true. All I know is that by the end of the day I think I smell like a Ghiradelli raspberry chocolate :-).
I liked this when I first smelled this a while back but never followed through with a sample or a purchase.
My trainer killed me at the gym yesterday, so I slept in an additional 2 hours today–didn’t even know that it was world sleep day!! I feel great except when I try to lift my arms!!!
SOTD-Chergui Maybe the last wearing this season. Spring is taking its time to get here this year.
So, who is looking forward to the swap meet tomorrow?!? Any previews????
I’m so looking forward to the swap meet tomorrow! I’m in Canada, so it’s difficult to find other swappers, but even if I do a couple of swaps I’m happy.
I will be willing to ship to Canada for a good swap! 🙂
Yey! Check out my swap list tomorrow morning. I will be making decants from my bottles.
Hi SunnyDay. There are a few from Canada on here including me!
I went to the new Whole Foods store near us — first time I’d been to a Whole Foods store — last night, and sniffed Pacifica Sugared Amber Dreams. I didn’t care for it myself, but I’m sure others like it. I have a couple of bottles of perfume left from holiday presents from aunts years ago. I tried a spray of Shalimar eau de toilette that must be from the 1980s or early 1990s. It had been sitting on a dresser in my room for a long time. It smelled bitter to me. I worked for a while washing that one off, then settled on the solid perfume version of Sun from LUSH, which just smells like citrus to me.
If anyone (in the continental U.S.) wants bitter-smelling Shalimar…
My e-mail address is neyronrose at gmail dot com
You might want to try it again after getting a few more initial sprays out.
Thank you for the suggestion, lillyjo. 🙂 I tried that. That seemed to improve things. It still smells smoky to me, but I think it’s supposed to. I could pick out an incense smell. I looked it up, and it has patchouli in it. The scent is quite musky, also, but, again, I believe it’s supposed to be.
Yes, it should smell smokey, definitely. Give it a little more time before you make up your mind about it.
As for next Friday, the first thing I started collecting this time around in my interest in fragrances were floral scents, so I’ll try for one that is something of an early spring flower fragrance. Around this time of year, I generally start getting primroses, but I don’t have any perfume that smells like a primrose. I have some violet splash cologne. It’s also getting close to the time that I find garden places selling stock (the flower – Matthiola incana). I like flowers with clove-like scents, especially stock and pinks (Dianthus). I know there are many perfumes that include the fragrance of sweet peas. That’s another early flower. Lots of fun choices. 🙂
Reading about perfumes is refreshing my memory of the meanings of French words. I can match up some of the terms for fragrance notes with flowers, fruits, herbs and spices, and types of incense I’m familiar with, though I’m hazy on many of the scents from plant resins. “Oriental” makes me think of Oriental lilies, but I have some sense of what sort of fragrance is meant by the perfume term. It’s a learning process. 🙂
I went with MPG Ambre Precieux. This is the perfect amber scent to. Happy Friday/Saturday NSTRs.
I agree. I think that is my favorite amber!
I love Ambre Précieux, I would love a small bottle. I can’t really justify a big one, I already own too many bottles, including 4 ambers. Still I’m a little jealous of how gorgeous you must be smelling today.
You my lovely friend Petunia smelll DIVINE, MARVELOUS and Luscious ( if I do say so myself!)
Thanks dear AngelaB! We ALL smelled lovely today!
Today I’m in TDC Oriental Lounge. It has amber and I like the curry note, which is not something I would have guessed.
Interesting – I don’t get a curry note, which is perhaps fortunate as it always seems sweaty on me.
Joining a few people I imagine in BK Amber Oud (haven’t had a chance to read through yet.!). So smooth, but a bit heavier than what I usually wear. It is a chilly day here in San Diego, so it is working for now! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
You smell great!
Gosh, I want those tarot cards! Wearing Mercier’s Nuits Enchantees, I think there is amber in there somewhere… Anyway it’s an oldie but a goodie 😉
They are great, aren’t they. I have never tried tarot but I might if I had that set.
My grandfather, normally a gentle soul, got ballistic when he caught my cousins and I playing with tarot cards. His version of ballistic was standing very still and not saying a word. He then picked up the cards and threw them in the trash. We never revealed the source of the cards or she would have been in real trouble.
Ha! Would the “she” in question have been you?!?
For that incident, I wad not the ringleader. It was a member of the household who could lose that designation.
Off topic, but I was at Bath and Body Works yesterday and they have 4 new tropical body sprays, shower gels etc. I was pleasantly surprised that they weren’t terrible on paper. I might get the Waikiki shower gel. 🙂
Second to actually going to Waikiki…!
Yes, I wish.
Was planning to go out in Ambre Russe, but nostalgia dragged me into opening my mini sample of Davidoff Goodlife. Does anyone remember this one? Completely overshadowed by its vastly more successful Cool Water family. Maybe rightly so. Anyway, I wore it twenty years ago, so it’s taking me back to high school days 🙂
And yes it’s got amber.
I don’t remember it, but always fun to revisit something after that long!
I remember it…drained a full bottle and a travel solid many years ago…
Not in sync with the CP, but totally in syncs with Sleep Day! Hit the snooze one time too many and forgot to apply anything. Lucky for me, I have an emergency travel bottle of Vetiver Tonka, so that’s SOTD.
Happy Friday✌????
Mmmm, good choice for a rush day!
I put Ambres des Merveilles on one arm and Ambre 114 on the other. The latter doesn’t feel like a perfume on its own, so I put some Mightnight in Paris on top of it. We’ll see how they get along.
Il Profumi di Firenze Ambra Grisea. Intensely resiny, a bit smokey, and sufficient ambergris to sweep me off my feet.
Ooo, that sounds interesting….
I have this and love it! Wonder why I don’t reach for it more often.
I think I am wearing something called Manjari, or maybe its Monjourl. The calligraphy is hard to read.
Either way, its a very nice amber violet body oil, picked up at a tea and herbalists store. A very nice and unusual scent. Just about no village (which is good for work and travel) but clings to my wrist for a wonderful jolt of beauty to cheer me up through out the day.
It makes a lovely hair oil too.
I typed “just about no silage.” The auto correct changed it to village.
Ha! Maybe that means it only attracts a certain few and not just everyone.
I’m joining many others in wearing Ambre Sultan (a couple of tiny sprays, hoping not to kill co-workers). I think it was my first loud amber perfume. Since then many other has joined my collection but I think of Ambre Sultan as of an ultimate amber perfume.
I could not pull this off, at least when I sniffed it years ago!
If you can do Mitzah and TF Amber Absolute, you can do Ambre Sultan. I’ll send you some, and you’ll see.
Well then, I am willing to try again!
Me neither, there is an herbal note I dislike in Ambre Sultan. I do love TF Amber Absolute and Mitzah though.
I have a sick child today so am in a light spritz of SSS Cocoa Sandalwood. And I’m trying to decide what “green” fragrance I want to wear tomorrow… 🙂
Hope the sickness ends soon.
2nd that! Cocoa Sandalwood seems a great choice.
I had forgotten about wearing amber today and put on Burberry Brit Gold. Happily, amber is listed as one of the notes. I felt lucky to find another bottle of this as my first was in my purse that was stolen from church on Christmas eve (this was a few years ago).
stolen from CHURCH? On CHRISTMAS EVE!????? ohmigosh that’s so messed up!
Wow, talk about a person having no conscience. Glad you found another bottle.
Hah! This sounds like a shoemaker’s children not having any shoes.
Gold is gorgeous (and so was REd)…hold on tight to that bottle because it was a LE and extremely hard to come by…I still have my empty one which I sniff from time to time….
I have two perfume ‘big sisters’ Waterdragon and Gaynor who are far cooler and more knowledgeable than me in every way, and being generous they have given me some awesome samples. So I am wearing two perfumes ….still in bed, saturday.
For sleep day Slumberhouse Norne from Gaynor. I like the sense of being deep in a forest with this one.
And from Lady WD I’m wearing Black Cashmere, also calming with a hint of amber.
Later today I have my botanical art class. I might wear something from JM Bloomsbury , possibly tobacco and mandarin.
That’s very flattering, but I don’t agree! I love the term “sisters”, but it shouldn’t be prefaced by “big” 🙂 . And you’ve been so generous passing on entire bottles.
I hope the art class is going well, and you remind me thaf I need to test more of the latest JM range. I tried Honey and Crocus, and it reminded me of Lubin’s Epidor.
Do you have any news for us on how Waterdragon is doing? I miss her and her lovely way of reporting on things including the kittens and “dear man.”
I’m with you on missing Chez Waterdragon.
No, not yet I’m afraid.
World Sleep Day – this explains why I slept right through my fitbit alarm this morning and was woken by my diligent 12 year old who sets her own alarm. I never sleep through any alarms. SOTD was going to be Ambre Narguile….but there wasn’t time. This afternoon!
On another note, the current New Yorker has a very short article on the roses that go into Chanel No.5 with some gorgeous photographs:
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/03/19/fragrant-harvest
Anyone else excited for their first swap meet? 🙂
Interesting article and beautiful photographs. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you for that link, those roses are gorgeous!
Hope you got to wear AN today, it such a beauty.
“Anyone else excited for their first swap meet? :)” YES! I’ve got my list ready!
Also, another thank you for the link to the New Yorker – the photos are incredible and so is the text (eg: “workers dumped sack after sack of roses into a giant metal vat, as though they were offloading loot in a heist film.”)
I’m wearing Narciso Rodriguez Eau Poudree, and its ok. Halfway through a sample vial and its just not for me. Daydreaming about Shay and Blue Framboise Noire, which I couldn’t wear here in my office.
First time posting- the mood here is positive, i really like it.
Hi and welcome, October! Great pick for an office scent.
Welcome! NST is the best!
Welcome!
Hi there, yes, such a positive place!
Welcome!
Welcome!
Hello there, October!
Hello! I am also fairly new here, and loving it! I’m eager to try the Shay and Blue. Sounds like it’s worth seeking out!
Welcome to NST!
Hi October, so nice to meet you! This is such a marvelous place. i hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!
Small spritz of Pacifica Spanish Amber today. Enough so I can join in but not suffocate in the late summer warmth! ????
Ooooh, that’s one of my favorite ambers! Good stuff!! ????
I’m doing my Saturday morning housework in a drop of Ambre Narguile. I don’t know why I waited so long to try this, it’s as stunning as everyone says. To my nose it also has similarities to Tobacco Vanille, which I already have, and commonsense says I don’t need both. Were I to find myself in close proximity to a bottle of Ambre Narguile, however, there might well be an override of commonsense 🙂
I dabbed on Ambre Narguile this morning from my sample and then daydreamed of the 4-bottle travel set I’d get with AN, and the muguet one, a backup of the iris, and maybe a blind buy of the new rose and and and . . . yes, Ambre Narguile can override my common sense any day of the week!
I went with Byredo 1996 for my amber fix today.
No wonder I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. I was just celebrating World Sleep day.
And I am going to celebrate by going to bed early 🙂
You smell fabulous, love 1996!
I’m wearing HdP 1740, which is an immortelle leather that dries down to the best amber in my collection. I love it in any season.
Wow, that does sound lovely!
I am in Sultan Pasha’s Cafe Ambre Noir. I am quite content.
You smell awesome!
Temperatures are dropping again to freezing point, maybe I’ll wear Cafe Ambre Noir tomorrow….
It’s an amber two-fer here today: SSS Ambre Noir and MFK Grand Soir. Last night I decided on the Ambre Noir over Grand Soir, but this morning right there in my inbox was an email from MFK for GS. I figured the Universe was telling me to wear it—and I was not about to risk incurring the Universe’s wrath by not listening!
PSA: Jean Patou lovers might want to check their local Dillard’s in person because mine has Joy (75ml) and Sublime out on the counter at 50% off! The SA said the deal is good “until it’s gone”, and neither of those scents is available on the website now, so I’m guessing they’re selling off their stock.
Have yourselves a fantastic Friday!
Dang, I don’t think Dillards is in my state. I havnt smelled Sublime in ages, but remember I liked it.
Posting a little late today. Yay Friday! SOTD = L’Air du Desert Marocain, from the sample stash. Very definitely related to yesterday’s Au Coeur du Desert. I can definitely see some of the differences after having worn both scents consecutively.
Which do you prefer? I have LdDM but haven’t tried Au Coeur.
I like them both for different reasons. I don’t think I can say that I prefer one over the other, though. The L’adDM is drier and smokier than the slightly sweeter and more resin-y Au Coeur. I think I’ll need to do more comparing between my two samples… pretty sure that there are other things that I did not notice in this round of sniffing.
I’m wearing Au Coeur du Desert today. I love them both!
Wow, the day got away from me. I wore i Profumi di Firenze Ambra del Nepal, one of my favorite ambers. It’s so smooth and creamy – no loud or screechy notes. And it’s affordable! Beautyhabit sells a 50ml bottle for $110 and a 12ml bottle for $44 (not affiliated).
Yum, love that one.
Okay – I freely admit that I don’t know that much about Amber and how it reacts on my skin and or with other components, so I was always a bit afraid of it…. however, I must say that I blind bought (shrugs to hide her face covered in her hands) Ambre Loup. And Wowie!!! It’s a winner, and a keeper! (Thanks to Kafkaesque’s review……)
It is a lot of Amber and SMOKE!! Reminded me straight away of LaDDM which is STRONG on my scent eating skin so I guess I got lucky there.
It is compelling and does loop back & forth and is so precise in the scents it is throwing that you can’t help but feel like you have a friend along for the thrill.
Congratulations on the successful blind buy! Ambre Loup is a beauty.
What a great feeling to have a blind buy that is a winner! I got some Ambre Loup samples after reading Kafkaesque’s review.
SOTD = Tom Ford Amber Absolute
This had been discontinued, resurrected and discontinued again. Why, Tom, why? You probably ought to reate a flanker to F—king Fabulous and call it I am F—king Nuts.
Several years ago, the perfumer for Amber Absolute, Christophe Laudimiel was a speaker at Sniffapalooza. I asked why it was discontinued and he said that the OTT resins he used gummed up the machine parts.
It was a good week to do ambers and I am quite tempted to coninue this next week. Great choice for a community project!
I had to LOL at your flanker comment! Still smiling as I type… ????
I’m glad I made you smile ????
Ha! Also known as Nucking Futs????
That would be a flanker to the flanker…and then it will get discontinued too…or wait for it, wait for it…LIMITED EDITION!
I so wish Tom Ford could see your comment! Too funny because it’s true! I have only smelled a few Private Blends, but I believe you all when you say the bests have been discontinued.
Lol on the flanker idea.
Shall we do another week? Maybe every second day? 🙂
I totally agree about Nucking Futs! Who cares if it jams up the production machinery? We want more Amber Absolute!
H- ???????????? to you!
Unaffiliated, but just putting it out there. If you live in the UK Escentual have a sale on till Monday with 25% off all fragrance.
‘Forgive me Donatella, for I have sinned…..’
Nice deal, thanks!
Wasn’t in an ambery mood today so I’m wearing Bottega Veneta EdP’s plush suedey goodness. Haven’t worn it for a while but it’s perfect for an autumn Saturday.
You smell gorgeous, love BV!
Twinsing with several of you by using the last of my Ummagumma sample on one arm and the last of Grand Soir on the other. Ummagumma was dense and chewy…brought to mind TF Tobacco Oud, although it’s been a long time since I tried that one so I don’t know it it’s an accurate comparison. Grand Soir was more sugary by comparison…like the crust on creme brûlée. Grand Soir is beautiful in its simplicity and is going to haunt me. I don’t have any MFK in my wardrobe and this year I’m having a milestone birthday….this purchase is totally justified and Donatella most certainly approves!
I haven’t worn Grand Soir in forever. I need to pull it out. You smell wonderful!
Thank you! ???? Yes, pull that baby out!! It has been perfect warm temps here the last couple days and I have found it totally wearable. I had the impression this was more of an autumn/winter scent, but I think I could wear it all. the. time. (Of course I say that now when it’s not 110 ????)
Made it through the week and went with Youth Dew bath oil on my wrists and a few sprays of Chergui leftover on my hoodie.
I went extreme old school with Dana Tabu . Fragrantica users put amber as the second strongest note. Mmmmm…
Yes you did go old school, perfect choice!
