Happy Groundhog Day! Our community project for today: assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I did this project with a bowl of Hermès travel sprays. I wasn't sure if I would cheat if I got the wrong answer, but I picked Muguet Porcelaine so I didn't have to. Punxsutawney Phil says six more weeks of winter, but what does he know?
Reminder: 2/9 will be Broadened Horizons Friday...wear a fragrance you initially thought was too [insert adjective] for you to wear. Suggested by Geordie.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Winter is here, too late as usual so I celebrate/mourn in Nuit de Noël. Eau de Toilette, but I’d say its as rich as any parfum.
Ah, you smell great.
I am wearing Robert Piguet Blossom, paw-picked by my cat, Kora. Kora (Kore, Cora) is one of the names of Persephone, who, as you all probably know, is a goddess associated with springtime and change of seasons. It seemed rude not to ask for her help in today’s project. (I know – very geeky and catladyish).
I prepared eight samples – four winter scents and four spring ones) and put treats next to them. Not only she picked one of the spring ones (Blossom) first, she then chose the other three spring samples, and only then ate the treats next to four winter scents. Maybe it’s because cats have sensitive noses and she preferred lighter scents, but I would like to think that she definitely promised us an early spring. ????
I ❤️ Your methodology!
Seconded. Does she normally have any perfume likes?
No, she is indifferent to them. Her thoughts on what happened today were probably: “Humans are weird. But as long as I get treats…”
Thirded!
Go Kora!
????????????
I love this! I believe Kora????
Cats are never wrong. 😉
Kora clearly knows what she’s doing. I’ll take her decision over Phil’s any day.
Kora and I thank you all for your faith and support! She is on my lap now, kneading and purring as I am typing this. 🙂
Here is a pic of her choosing today’s scent – https://imgur.com/Gs1BDGa
Not her best photograph, but it shows a crucial moment of picking Blossom.
She looks like a gorgeous little mini-panther!
Auto correct wanted to change that to “high-quality” panther, and I’m sure she’s that, too. 🙂
Yep, a panther by looks and purrsonality. And both you and auto correct are right – gorgeous and high-quality. 😉
Cora is adorable! And, she has good taste 🙂
I meant to type Kora 🙂
I love everything about this post <3
Oh my!! Your Kora looks strikingly similar to my much loved and missed Jinx kitty.
Sorry about your loss, Jalapeno. Black cats are awesome.
How cute, love it!
I think its safe to say that this was Kora’s favorite community project ever! (Mine, too, but I’m not a goddess of anything.) Love your poetic reasoning!
The cat is always right!
????????????????????????????
Adorable! ????????????????
Good morning and great news!! I followed the project guidelines and drew a sample of Apoteker Tepe’s After The Flood. Looks like spring is on the way!!☀️????????????????????????
????☀️
Nice choice!
In a bowl 2 samples: Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamon and Myrrh and Tonka. I picked Myrrh and Tonka ????. Like Punxsutawney Phil my perfume’s prediction is 6 more weeks of winter ????????????.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ????
Boo hiss!
At least you smell great.
Thanks! 🙂
I also picked more winter. 🙁 But you smell wonderful!
Thank you! You also smell fantastic in Angel Muse! Let’s dream of an early spring arrival! ????
I’m in the minority for sure, but I’m happy to keep Winter as long as possible!
Six more weeks?! Ugh. We are at a solid 1F right now.
Every winter my dh asks me why we live here. Well…because we grew up here, our families are here, we work here, the kids go to school here…you get the idea. Five months from now we will be canoeing some glorious evening and remind ourselves how lucky we are to live here.
I’m intentionally cheating today (sorrynotsorry) and going with the eternally spring-y Bergamote 22.
Happy Friday!
That’s a good one to battle the winter bleeccchhhhhh.
We have similarly bad winters, but the summers are so worth it!
Where are you?
(Not to brag, but it’s 75 degF where I am today 🙂 )
“Not to brag,” she says.????????LoL.
I’m in Madison, Wisconsin and we did make it up to a balmy 18 today.
Seriously though, our summers here are beautiful and we take advantage of every warm day by spending lots of time outside.
Wiarton Willie says six more weeks of snow, but what do whistlepigs know, anyway?
I randomly ended up with SL Gris Clair…., which one on the one hand is a cool ashy lavender but on the other hand is warmed with smoke and tonka, so it could be either winter or spring. The upside is that I smell great. I don’t know why I don’t own a full bottle.
HA — Shubenacadie Sam predicts early spring! So I’m with Sam.
Me too Robin! I was born and grew up in Nova Scotia and the critters there are to be trusted! 🙂
You smell lovely. Gris Clair is one of my favorite scents.
I’ve worn Gris Clair most days this year and we’ve had the hottest January on record and the highest daily temperature on record so I think it must mean spring will arrive early for you. SL wouldn’t ket you down.
Random Cristalle
This a favorite winter frag me me so six more weeks of snow! Sorry ya’ll!
HA!
baby buddha is in the kitchen “making” dosa for breakfast ie: watching my FIL do it S(ip)OTD homemade chai
Today is my last day of staycation, sorry to see my FIL go 🙁
Enjoy your last day of staycation!
I hope you have a lovely last staycation day!
What, what?? I like Cristalle in winter too, but it’s not a winter fragrance. We need arbitration here ????
The word arbitration has been used a lot around me these days, and I don’t know why 😛
Uh, oh.
Hope your last staycation day is a good one!
Perfume rule book clearly states that “although enjoyed in all seasons Cristalle is officially classified as a early spring fragrance”????????????????????
YAY! ????????????
Another summer scent for me…it means extreme heat is on the way.
No no no! ????
Cristalle= Spring- Summer, even though is also beautiful in winter 😀
There are some winters when I really crave “greens” and Cristalle is definitely at the top of the list. You smell great!
VCA Bois d’Iris today. I’m picking spring regardless of Phil.
You smell wonderful.
I picked spring too- I don’t care what Phil says!
I wore that all week during….you smell lovely!
La Chasse Aux Papillons from my bowl says it’s going to be an early spring! Hah. Right. I’ve always lived where February is cold. I’m ready for you, February!!! (Though I could do without the black slush that is EVERyWHERE in winter.)
That comment ended up in the wrong place. You smell wonderful, MMK!!! I need to pull out my decant of that one.
I ended up in Caron Tubereuse Parum. Which could go either way, I guess, but it smells “warmer” to me than not; no cold mentholated note as in Tubéreuse Criminelle, at any rate.
Nearly fainted yesterday when I opened my natural gas bill for January. Six more weeks of winter might just kill me.
Have I ever mentioned here that I hate rodents? 😀
We have electric heat. The plant is no more than 30 miles from my house, so electricity is relatively cheap here compared to the rest of the country. Nevertheless, the January bill was $481, about 70% higher than average. 🙁
Oouf, that hurts!!
Our winter utilities are a beast too, but we have a hybrid system with some electric and a “wall” furnace (Rinnai) that runs on LP, and that saves our bacon. Electricity is very expensive in the part of PA where I live. There are months the rest of the year where our transmission costs are higher than our usage fees.
Calling in spring from Staten Island–sampling After the Rain from Solstice Scents which is a pretty floral with some dirt. Of course, waiting outside in Manhattan for my bus to Boston in cold windy weather with boots, hat, fleece tights and a down coat, it’s hard to believe. Also, I kind of wish that I was wearing a more weather appropriate perfume
It is horribly cold and windy here today. Stay warm and have a safe trip.
It’s 5° here. According to Accuweather the “real feel” is -10. I am not happy. The house has a permanent chill. Mr. Lucy and I have been having a back and forth of “We have to go somewhere, I can’t take it anymore”…”We can’t afford to go on vacation”…”Screw it, let’s just head south.” We take turns on each side of the argument. Unfortunately, he had ankle surgery just before Christmas. He graduates from his cast to a walking boot on Monday…until he can walk, we’re not going anywhere.
I threw all of my samples in the bowl. SOTD is Prada Candy, which I consider a winter scent. I’m wearing it with a scowl on my face. 🙂
Happy Friday everyone!
Lol. Scowl or no scowl, you smell great!
Hope you can get away soon! Every winter is “my last winter here”.
I threw in the towel in 2016 – no more Canadian winters. We are in San Diego for the winters now.
I know what you mean about the permanent chill in the house. We’re below zero in Minnesota and the house can’t quite warm up.
It’s going to be a cold Super Bowl!
Ugh. I hope you get at least a mini-vacation. You smell great!
Good luck with the ankle repair and the holiday plans
A lot of our local “snowbirds” who went south this year are bemoaning the fact that the south has been pretty cold this year and heat pumps are wearing out. But I’d take 42 C over -10 C any day!
I can’t help but love Candy. You smell great. Try and stay warm!!!
Going to wear LM Sensual Orchid today b/c spring but still some vanilla.
Happy 1st Friday of February!
Mmm, you smell lovely!
TGIF!
Spring is definitely coming early for me in: Miu Miu L’Eau Bleue.
I was actually wishing for winter because I just love wearing heavier scents! I guess this is “accurate” in the sense that it makes me feel a smidgen “blue” 😛
I love the scent you are wearing today. Very beautiful!
I have the original but wished I waited for Bleue. I really like it.
Sorry Groundhog….I took matters into my own hands. SPRING IS COMING, and that’s that! March that bucktoothed rat back into his burrow, ’cause I got this!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BerQ4Jjhs5o/?taken-by=jadainga99
Same thing for this Friday challenge! Ain’t no way I’m taking a change on a bad prediction….So I went with a generous spray of J. Lo’s Deseo. Flowers flowers flowers flowers and warm sunshine.
Old Man Winter, take your cold winds, flu virus, and “school digital learning days” and choof off! 🙂
Hilarious! ????????????
You tell ’em J!
Yesterday evening when I’d had it with the bad weather, I put on some jasmine e/o, closed my eyes, and imagined I was anywhere but here and basking in lovely sunlight.
????
Like many here, I am trying to force spring, like you force a bulb. Wearing Chamade, vintage pdt.
Chamade, chamade, chamade. Ooh, the most lovely of all. The day that I broke down about 9 years ago and bought a FB of vintage Chamade extrait was a miserable January day. Chamade is the remedy for any bad anything.
Just got a tester from FragranceNet, I am enjoying it – and might try a different irritations
Iterations!
Oh, that should do it!
Mmm, isn’t Chamade a dream?
It’s blowing snow here, with a wind chill temp of 13F. School was canceled in our county and the ones surrounding us.
I ain’t gonna lie, I completely blew off the challenge today and went with Amouage Memoir Woman. Six more weeks of winter.
The only reason we didn’t have a snow day today is because there have already been so many the school decided to brave it out. The weather here today is miserable! Amouage Memoir Woman is definitely a good choice – there’s tuberose in there, right? That’s “summer” wrapped up in a thick leathery coat!
CB I Hate Perfume 7 Billion Hearts – I hope this means more winter! I work for a water district in Northern California and we need a couple of good storms to fill our reservoir.
I have to 2nd both your gorgeous perfume and your comment about needing more ‘weather.’ We are bone dry here in the Denver area 🙁
Same for New Jersey. I have no idea where all the winter precip went.
It went to Montreal. It is only Feb. 2nd and they have already run out of places to dump the snow…
I feel guilty but it’s going to be a very pleasant 70 degrees here today — just like yesterday — and I know we need lots and lots of precipitation. It already feels like Spring. I went with Yatagan but not for any seasonal reasons.
Rejoice! It’s cheering just to hear someone’s got nice weather!
Ugh, can’t it just rain at night? If it could rain every night from midnight to 5am, with our current daytime temps in the 70s, I would just be the happiest camper in the world.
That said, everything is very green around where I am (South and East Bays), so I am surprised we still need some rain! I guess we always need some rain, huh?
3 winter and 3 spring fragrances
And I grabbed…..Au dela Narcisse
So pretty! And very spring. Just went for a walk and spotted a gorgeous ???? rainbow.
But weather forecast says winter will return this weekend 🙁 freezing temps and all…
…but Au dela narcisse was gone after a few hours.
So I followed up with MAAI. Celebrating start of the weekend, drinks with friends in the pub 🙂
Au Dela and a rainbow! That’s it’s own kind of perfect.
Yes it was! And I saw the rainbow reach the ground….but no leprechaun (urh spelling…haha) around, and no pot of gold in sight. 😉 Haha
That’s such s lovely perfume! You smell like spring on a stick!????
I say “pah!” to the meteorologically untrained rodent’s prediction (as, it appears, are most NSTers this morning) and am making my own early spring in Jour d’Hermes. So there.
Let’s leave nothing to chance! Am in Jour d’Hermes Absolu…
LOL — and, you smell perfect.
Perfect! Jour d’Hermes IS spring.
JM Pomegranate Noir Exfoliating Shower Gel
Wood Sage & Sea Salt Body Creme
Pomegranate Noir Cologne
Rouge Dior Rose Baiser
Ooooh – you smell lovely
Great combination !
You’re rocking it today!
At first glance I thought that groundhog was a very fat rabbit (still stuck on yesterday, I guess)! Today I’m continuing my month of roses with FM’s Lipstick Rose. Haven’t worn this in ages & I forgot how much I like it. It’s good all year, so I guess I’m not casting a vote re: winter . . .
you smell lovely!
I thought it was a rabbit at first, too 😛
None of the groundhogs in my yard are that cute, that’s for sure.
I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen a groundhog in person? But I imagine most do not have the freshly shampooed quality one that this one does.
That’s what I thought, too!
You smell so lovely.
Why quit now? #coromandel4evah
Fun fact: Punxsataney Phil lives at the local library, I learned today. #libraries4evah
I really have to check this one out. I see it is unisex…can a modern guy pull this off?
Coromandel is amazing. I think it’s fairly gender neutral myself.
Absolutely!
A guy can totally wear Coromandel.
It would smell great on a dude.
The best place for anyone to live is the local public library.
As an aside: after having lived in the PA boonies for many years now, the real prediction for spring to arrive is when the skunks come out of their dens. When you start smelling skunks, spring is on the way. God only knows why they ever picked a groundhog, but I’m all for Phil since he is a PA kind of institution.
😀
this was meant for Luna Green…
Backatcha! ????
I chose 2 scents I was willing/wanting to wear today (can’t handle randomness when I’m cranky) and tossed a coin: heads spring (Hendley Amora-was hoping to use up the last spray), tails winter (PdE Cuir Ottoman). I got winter, TWICE, just to be sure. My husband watching the drama unfold: “You peoples is crazy”. I think he’s jealous ????
LOL
What do you think of Aroma? I’ve been eyeing this for some time.
I find it really addictive and fun. It’s tart, sweet, salty, and a little creamy all at the same time. I smell mostly strawberry and tart cherry and it smells pretty natural. Longevity has varied but it’s on the shorter side. Might be better if I could apply more than a small sample spritz. I’ll probably order a travel spray-too inexpensive to pass up. I’m really impressed with everything I’ve tried from his line! The new Bourbon EDC is also nice-warmer weather weight version of the extrait.
Thank you so much. Time to adjust the budget!! ????
We are crazy but fun! You smell great.
That goes without saying ???? And thank you- unintentionally joining your iris project today.
LOL! and people around me might be thinking what is so funny? They would never understand it….
Haha! And I’d be afraid to even TRY to explain ????
The anecdote about your husband and today’s coin toss is hilarious!
Last Sunday I put six decants in my grab bag. Three were winter scents and three were summer. Monday-Wednesday I grabbed the winter scents, so by default Thursday – Saturday are going to be spring scents. Today’s is Chamade. In East Texas we’ve had spring-like weather this week, with highs in the 70s.
Ooh enjoy that weather! I walk to work and it was 19 degrees (before windchill) during my commute this morning. Brrr.
Lucky you got Chamade! Gorgeous – one of my holy grail fragrances.
Another +1 for Chamade!
Where in Texas are you? I have a lovely friend in Tyler that I need to visit.
It is only the 1st week in Feb, so there will be 6 more weeks of winter, no matter what the various groundhogs say. The shock will be if that is all the winter we get .
Wearing SMN Aqua di Cuba – I beautiful citrus and and honey tobacco leather. Definitively on the winter side for a scent.
????
That is the truth. We have snow into April in Montreal.
I’m sacking off winter. I’m also sacking off spring and going straight for Summer in the Med. L’Artisan Premier Figuer today.
That’s the way to do it! 😀
HA — I considered that!
Traversée du Bosphore! I was too disorganized and behind schedule to participate in today’s project, but I’ve been craving sweet and fruity scents recently. Plus, I think I’ll do a random scent-selection for the Super Bowl to predict the winner. I don’t follow football, but I think I agreed to bet drinks on the outcome. 🙂
You smell great!
I haven’t worn TdB in a long time. I’ll have to pull mine out this week. It is very pretty.
I drew out Orlov Orlov perfume, which I classify as spring. It’s a white floral, but not a heavy one.
That is my favourite of that entire brand.
74 and sunny ???? today.
I closed my eyes and grabbed a decant our of a box of decants and got Guerlain SDV. Winter it is.
You smell wonderful!
Predicting spring when it’s 74, that’s funny!!
I forgot today was Friday, and after I finished getting dressed, I sprayed some Miss Dior Original. This fragrance makes me smile 🙂
Yep, you smell smile-worthy!
Our local forecast calls for 68 or so today – BUT my random grab ended up being “December” by DSH (yay freebiemeet). Sorry everyone! Having said that, December faded very fast on my skin. So maybe those 6 weeks will go by in a blink, too! 🙂
*fingers crossed* 🙂
I wanted to participate in the community project today… but I had a craving that could only be satisfied by L’Air du Desert Marocain, so that’s what I’m wearing.
It feels like winter will never end!
You can’t go wrong with LADDM. It’s great any time of year.
Ditto
I’ve felt the coldness of my winter, I never thought it would ever go….
You smell wonderful!
I put 5 samples for each season in a drawstring bag this morning, and drew Meditterosa’s Architepo, so it’s Winter for the Win! Seriously, though, we are in desperate need of some snow here along the Front Range of Colorado, or we are going to be facing a potentially serious fire season this summer ????.
Architepo is one I’ve looked forward to sampling, and it’s rather striking. It’s a bone-dry, resinous, lightly smoky, woody-fir scent, with an amber warmth in the background. I will definitely be draining this sample dry!
I heard on the radio yesterday that our snow pack is at 30% of average, so some wet winter weather would be a good thing!
Mmm, that sounds really nice.
SotD = Hiris
The pictured groundhog reminds me of a rather grumpy someone who wants the world to go their way no matter what. 😉
Wanted to play along today, so I put two identically-packaged Parfums DelRae samples in a teacup — Wit for spring and Mythique for winter.
I jostled them about, reached in without peeking, and pulled out Wit. I look forward to wearing it soon.
Go Team Spring!
Ooh, you smell gorgeous.
Thanks, sistine!
Hiris, for me, just smells so nice, doesn’t offend sensitive noses in public, and is unlike anything else. It’s a winner.
I have a sample of this coming my way from the freebie meet and I’m really looking forward to trying it. I see it mentioned here a lot. Also, I have a fondness for Luca Turin one-stars. Lol.
I’root for the one-stars, too. Sad iris? Not for me. In his review of Hiris Mr. Turin praises Dzing! (I adore it) and Premier Figuier (which I can’t wear). Go figure.
I hope you enjoy sampling Hiris and let NST know how it goes for you.
should be “I root for . . .”
I’root must be Groot’s friend. 😀
Plus, Wit is the prettier scent.
Agree! Wit is quintessentially pretty.
Bad news from this groundhog. I assembled:
Winter:
Lampblack
Dead of WInter
Norne
Zibeline
Thundra
Casmir
Spring:
Siovohle Lemon Rain Flower
Dasein Spring
PdE Yuzu Fou
Moss Gown
Blue hope
Parfum de Therese
And I drew Thundra. I haaaate the opening of this – which I would describe as “bloody mushrooms” – but the drydown is a nice, comfortable patchouli with a little galbanum.
But, if we’re going to talk seasonal signs, here’s a good one! In November I ordered a mini of Theorema from Azerbaijan, and gave up hope on it sometime in December. It finally arrived last night! I’m taking that as an omen that while winter will last a while longer, it will be rich and good.
Oh my. “Bloody mushrooms” sounds like a horror! I’m happy for your good omen in Theorema, though!
Ditto this!
Yeah, bloody mushrooms is a description with the power to turn me off perfume altogether.
Hah! Thundra! That’s about as winter as it gets… :-/
Well, finally a scent that does NOT need to go on my to-try list.
Bloody mushrooms??? Whoa. I am torn between being curious about Thundra and wanting no part of it whatsoever.
The top notes really are short lived and the rest is nice if you like patchouli!
Mon numéro 8 by L’Artisan Parfumeur. In San Diego, it’s another day of endless summer.
Send some of that endless summer on over this way.????
Sigh.
I’m in Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris. It’s a summery iris that smells of driftwood and beach sand for me.
I wore that one all week, it is so wonderful. I find it incredibly soothing.
That sounds lovely.
This was a stressful project for me, because If you didn’t know, I hate winter. Also, I’m superstitious and sometimes I think I’m magic???? so, basically I had to cheat. Sotd is Bond no. 9 Central park West. Suffering the cheating consequence sitting in a snow shower. 13 degrees.
LOL that made me laugh! At least you smell like Spring in 13 degrees!
I do smell pretty dang good. The only Bond I pretty much love. Glad you got a good laugh!
Please, do not cheat anymore! 😀 😀
I promise!
I wish I were magic.????
Could be, you never know ????
Most excellent.
Darn it lillyjo! Don’t you know that cheaters never win. ????
Whoops! ????
I pulled Dzongka from my sample bowl, which I consider a winter scent. Sorry!
I really like this scent, but I can’t imagine using up a full 100 ml bottle. I wish those 15 ml sprays that existed before I started collecting perfume were still around – that would be just perfect.
Yes — I have not used up enough of my Dzongkha! 15 ml would have been about right. That said, back when they made the 15 ml bottles, I did drain & have to replace a couple.
Yay, I pulled spring! My iris choices were Feu Secret for winter and No. 19 parfum for spring. I was really more in the mood for No. 19 so I’m glad that’s what I selected. Really, anytime I wear any concentration of No. 19, I wonder why I don’t just wear it all the time. I always want to have some in my collection.
You smell so wonderful!
SOTD is Lovely by SJP, happy Friday to all.
Nice!
That is a robust groundhog!
SOTD is the naked bee lotion in orange blossom honey, which I found in one of the hospital tower gift shops. Orange blossom is not my favorite but I really like this one- light, sparkly, and it’s whispering in my ear “SPRING!”
The sun is out, so im going to go with it!
Ooh I’ve wondered about that lotion. You may have created a new lemming for me…
It’s nice but not super moisturizing. I topped it with a spritz of SSS Bee’s Bliss, and it’s a great pairing❤️
Such a long week. Got a call Monday that my love’s grandma was in ICU with the flu and pneumonia and was very critical so we booked plane tickets at 11:00 and was at the airport by 1:00. Spent the week in WV at the hospital. She’s still in ICU but more stable than she was at the beginning of the week so we flew back yesterday. I’m back at work today and exhausted.
I DID manage to both remember AND participate in the project today. I just closed my eyes and grabbed a sample out of my sample/decant box and ended up with DS & Durga Italian Citrus. I think it’s very nice (though not so nice I’d buy a bottle) and obviously more suitable to spring or summer- so take that Phil! TGIF!
Sorry to hear about it. I wish she gets better soon. At least is Friday and hopefully you will get some rest.
Oh my gosh KellyC- what a week! The flu has been scary this year. Sending good thoughts your way for grandma’s continued improvement!
Thank you! She’s 91 so it’s super scary (not that it wouldn’t be at any age).
Sorry to hear this. Sending good health thoughts to your family. Hope you get a restful weekend.
Many wishes for her continued improvement. Very scary. We just got urgent emails from work re: the rampant flu this year. Mostly threatening workers who refuse to get vaccinated and aren’t wearing the mask they have to wear at work instead, with suspension. It’s serious this year. We’re also not allowed to show up to work if we have flu-like symptoms, which alleviates guilt some people have with calling in sick and feeling like they have to push through it. I think all work places should share this policy.
Agreed. I get vaccinated every year, regardless of what the naysayers say. We wore masks the whole time at the hospital in WV (it’s bad, so it was their policy- in addition to no children under 12 visiting at the hospital) and I have never washed my hands so much in my life. When we got to the airport yesterday I actually wished I’d grabbed some masks at the airport to wear on the plane. She is 91 and it has taken her down so quickly…
I’m all for people staying home when they’re sick, regardless of the field they’re in, though I know it’s not always an option. But I’ve worked with far too many people who make it a point of pride and pat themselves on the head for showing up feeling like hell and back.
Oh no what a week, I wish you, your family and of course your grandma all the best and a steady recovery!
Wishing her a complete recovery. And rest for all the family.
Best wishes for your vso’s grandma. That’s some scary stuff to be dealing with, especially if it is long distance.
Oh KellyC, what a dreadful week. I hope your boyfriends grandma feels better very soon, and that you can take a break this weekend!
Sending good thoughts for a quick and full recovery.
This year the flu has multiple strains so the shot isn’t even necessarily covering what’s morphed out there. Very scary!
So sorry to hear this! Hope she recovers soon. The flu is no joke, especially at 91. We are inundated here, too.
Sending healing thoughts to your love’s grandma. Glad she’s on the mend!
6 more weeks of winter indeed. It was -2 C here this morning with fresh snow and howling wind. I didn’t bother with the challenge, but went directly to one of my fav fragrances of all time: OJ Ta’if edp.
Oh gosh you smell so good!
Yum.
Not really on theme today. Since it was in the 70s yesterday I should probably have worn something springy, but I am wearing EL Sensuous Noir today. Not *wintry* per se, but not really spring either.
You smell lovely!
Wearing bois d’argent, I sort of rigged the pick since I had two doctor’s appointments this morning, and randomness might not do. This one definitely suggests more winter, and the dark torrential rain when I left the house mirrored that.
My cat has chosen “spring” (I gave him two paper balls – blue for winter and green for spring), so I’m in Prada Infusion d’Iris EdT. Every time I wear it, I think how much I like it.
Yay for your cat! I doubt I could get any of mine to do that.
He’s a smart kitty! And you smell amazing!
Thank you! (and I’ll give Rusty a treat from you – so he’ll be also thankful but without knowing why 🙂 )
Oh man, he’s so cute!! I just saw the pictures of the decision process. I can tell he’s very wise.
He got much smarter with age. But mostly his smarts aim at getting food: in that he’s a genius! 😉
Yay! Another spring predicting kitty.
Now let’s see if it turns true 🙂
I will admit to cheating today – love me some cozy Winter scents, so I pulled out an untried sample of Sammarco Bond-T, which promised chocolate and patchouli.
On me, however, it’s turned out to be burning meat and rubber – leaving me concerned that we may be headed for neither Winter nor Spring, but possibly for the Apocalypse. Whoops!
LOL!
Dang…. I thought I had bad luck..
LOL! But, sorry you have to endure that.
HAHA (sorry about the burning meat and rubber, though 🙁 )
Wow. Not sure I’d ever want to smell your SOTD. On the plus side, it makes for a great meme.
Might smell delish if you are particularly hungry????
Whoops…too bad.
For what it is worth, i tried it a while ago and on me (or should i say, to me) it smells like bitter cacao, earthy patchouli with a dash of vanilla.
No associations with burned meat or rubber whatsoever.
Finding myself drawn to the February iris project, at least for daytime. L’Attesa today. I love this so much I am running low!
You smell great!
oooh, yum, the champagne top note on L’Attesa is divine. You smell fabulous.
I was catching up on Luca Turin’s twitter account, which is mostly not about perfume, but he did refer to this lovely article that I had missed about Edmond Roudnitska’s house on a hill overlooking both the Provençal Alps and Cote d’Azur, and his factory, Accords et Parfums, with photos:
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Citadel-of-the-Masterpieces-Edmond-Roudnitska-s-House-and-Accords-et-Parfums-10359.html
I looooove Luca Turin. Have you read his Folio book? It’s partly perfume and partly observations about life. So good! And only a few bucks on kindle (I used the kindle app on my phone). Thanks for sharing nozknoz!
Yes, wonderful essays!
Looks like heaven
It really does!
Oops! Forgot about the CP. Where I live spring is indistinguishable from winter and fall, but even more miserable as it just prolongs the interminable dreary weather until some sun arrives (usually in July.) So read nothing into the fact that I was reminded of Chanel No 19 edp this morning, and is what I’m wearing now.
Is there a word for smelling something without olfactory input? You know how you can smell something in your head purely from memory, or some other brain activity, not because you are actually, physically smelling it? Anyway, that’s what happened this morning. I got an internal whiff of something entirely imaginary, realized it was Chanel No 19, and that’s why I’m wearing it. 🙂
Oh, and on a different note – we went to the symphony last night (I was luxuriating in Misia as usual) and two couples – to the left and front of us – were grumbling about perfume and how the symphony hall is supposed to be a “perfume-free zone.” When the performance ended and the standing ovation and applause were just dying down, the couple to our left both started screaming at us to get a move on and out of the way. Like at the top of their lungs yelling. Apparently an evening of Elgar and Rachmaninoff is not for relaxation and rejuvenation for some people, but more like being stuck in traffic. 0_0
Sorry to hear about your fussy neighbors at the concert!
And yes, there is a word for that olfactory hallucination: phantosmia. I loooove when that happens, though I often have a hard time placing the scent.
Strangely, it’s also common in migraine auras and seizures to smell smoke.
Thank you!! Yes, it always feels like a bit of a coup when I can actually name what I’m smelling.
I’ll have to write that word down. I’m sure to forget it 😉
What a couple of monsters you had to sit next to! Sorry that happened. You do smell lovely today ????
Thanks lillyjo, that was the word I was struggling for – Monsters. Unbelievable.
Oh, dear lord. How disconcerting and shocking. Not a way to end a nice evening. Had a similarly disturbing incident with our table neighbors at a restaurant last Friday. I had to restrain myself from slugging the jerk.
I can recall in my mind the way a scent smells but it’s not as vivid as actually smelling or thinkinG I’m smellinG something.
Grace and tolerance in our society has evaporated. Besides you smelled great! What if you reeked of BO or some odorous food? ????
What a pity that you were seated next to some world class jerks!
Holy Mary! People just kill me with their nonsense. So weird! My dog has better manners than that!
That is rude. I would have told them they should have left at intermission so as not to be inconvenienced by other paying symphony goers who like to show appreciation for a great performance and then just continue to stand there and clap. Or yell back with WHAT? I CAN’T HEAR YOU and keep clapping.
Much as I liked this CP, I didn’t participate. Because my sis sent me a small decant of Lancôme Lavande Trianon, which I had to immediately spray on. Unlike most it seems, I very much like lavender. This is powdery and cozy on a cold day.
I love the smell of lavender and use the EO when I steam wash the floors. I don’t own a single proper lavender perfume, though. Must remedy this. That one sounds interesting and cozy.
I use lavender EO often. A proper lavender perfume sounds wonderful.
One of my favorite lavenders for night is Trader Joe’s lavender body lotion, which I slather on my arms and then breathe in deeply.
Lavender is one of my favorite notes as well. I’m not familiar with the perfume you wore, but I’m sure you smelled fantastic.
I love Lavandes Trianon! Gourmand lavender, yum. I also have and love Vero Profumo Kiki extrait, lavender crème brûlée!
If that’s a normal-sized groundhog, I don’t ever want to meet one in the wild. It looks like it could take me down.
I had every intention of participating in today’s project but I was sidetracked by Box of Eels, and I could not refuse the siren’s song. I wear it all year so it’s not winter or summer to me, and the weather here is no help, either. It’s brightly overcast and in the fifties. Could be spring, but no, the calendar says winter.
When a perfume calls, you have to wear it. No ands, ifs, or buts.
My Groundhog Day result was decided via coin toss:
Heads = heading towards Spring + Diptyque Volutes EDT
Tails = stuck with Winter = Diptyque Volutes EDP
And the winner is …
Spring! I wanted to wear the EDT and I got my wish! It is iris and honeyed tobacco on me.
Commuting Woes No. 407:
Dangerous Driving Douce-bag – on my way to the train station, I always pass by a Parkway exit ramp with a Yield sign. In yield situations, the person with the Yield sign should yield / slowdown with cars going in his same direction on the main road. The moron this morning decided tgat yield meant everyone else should yield to him. On top of that, in the parking deck, he turned into a Do Not Enter section. Oy vey, I bet he will go out the wrong way. One of these days, he will get into a nasty accident with no one else to blame but himself!
Nothing like a DDDb????
Unbelievable, I tell you. Reminds me of the time I gave my niece a Learning to Share DVD for Christmas because she was having problems sharing with her little sister. I asked my sister 2 months later to find out if it was effective and she said no. Apparently my niece thought her little sister should share more with her.
???????? Has her ability to share improved?
Yes it has, no thanks to me!
Wow, what this is telling me is that I need to try Volutes EDT. (The EDP gives me a bit of a headache, but if they’re THAT different….)
I may wear the EDP tomorrow but I definitely prefer the EDT.
Me too!
Yikes! I’m guessing the driver was unfamiliar with the area. I’ve nearly done similar things in strange places.
Oh, the guy knew what he was doing. He has a monthly parking pass. He’s just a d-bag.
I also prefer EdT but do not mind EdP as well.
Yesterday on my way to work a big truck that was behind me changed lanes and cut me off because the driver was in a hurry/angry (for a while we were both stuck behind a car that just didn’t want to turn right on red – even though it was allowed). Anyway, the truck was really rude to me without a good reason but I couldn’t help laughing when right after it passed me, it had to stop on the red signal and after that drive REALLY slowly behind some machinery for the road work that turned from the side road in front of it. I hope he saw me laughing in his rare view mirror.
Sweet Justice!
SOTD: Chanel Sycomore edt!
After several days of feeling a bit sad, the gloom passed, and I smell FANTASTIC! I hope everyone else’s week is shaping up well, too!
Yay! Glad you are feeling better!
I wonder what is going around that so many of us are feeling the gloom of life. Perfume spleen perhaps?
I just felt like Beloved today, so Beloved it is. Wonderful and soothing.
Thanks for all you nice comments yesterday, my mood has lifted (slightly), have a great weekend everyone!
You smell great! Hope your mood continues to lift!
Happy to hear that things are looking better for you today.
You smell great! Have a wonderful weekend.
Beloved always lifts the spirits. You smell great!
What a fuzzy groundhog in that picture! He must be all fluffed out because he’s cold.
I grabbed My Own Private Teahupo’o by A Lab of Fire. Actually I have more than a sample of this, but I still have the sample that I got a little while back, so thought I could include that in my random samples. I’m not counting on spring-like weather arriving any time soon where I live, but at least for today I can have a little hope!
I am not a fan of groundhogs. We have many who live nearby, and they love to sharpen their enormous teeth by gnawing on the wood frames of our garage. No way to trap them all. They just keep coming back.???? Not to mention they are HUGE! Much bigger than our small dog. End of rant.
Sotd: Iris Celadon, split meet goodie courtesy of TriesToBeClassy. It is a elegant iris that would be perfect for a formal event.
Whoa, that groundhog looks like he’s having a bad day! I wonder what he saw…
I’m happy in Organza Indecence today, from a 15ml partial bottle from the bay. I bought it as backup, and luckily it smells just as great as my original bottle, a blind buy, also from eBay.
I’m *ducking* as I say this, but I could do with a little more winter weather. The temp has been hovering around 70 degrees all week, and it’s not looking like we’re getting any more frigid weather this season. Waaaaah! I still have winter perfumes to wear! ????
I would be happy to send you some winter weather from New Jersey. Too bad it doesn’t work that way. ????
Yes, and I’d save some 80 degree days in March to send to you. ????
Yeah, it’s about the same here. I hardly get to wear some of my winter perfumes because we get so little cold weather. I wouldn’t mind the mild winters so much if it weren’t for the brutally hot, long, hot, humid, hot, enervating, hot summers that we get. Did I mention that our summers are hot?
Ha! So your summers are hot, huh?
I ordered some vanilla-centric samples a couple of weeks ago, thinking I had time to test them. I guess I’d better get on the stick.
I totally understand this!????
I have the same issue with my winter perfumes: I tend to like that kind more but have almost no time to wear them.
I totally agree. I am loving the great weather in San Diego but would need a two week cold snap to wear my deep winter favourites. But I am biding my time, because I have to go back to Montreal on April 7th and it will be plenty cold there for many weeks, my opportunities will come.
I picked Copal Azur today, which is kind of a confusing scent for this CP! It’s got oodles of incense and cardamom, which makes it wintery (yuck). On the other hand, it’s got notes of salt and ozone (neither of which I can actually smell, but whatever, fragrantica is never wrong), which make it summery. Also, “azure” is just such a summery word. Well, (winter + summer)/2 = spring, right? So I guess my perfume is leaning springward!
ha! I like your thinking.
Now we need hajusuuri to check your perfumath. 😀
LOL! It could be Fall but because that is not a Groundhog Day choice, then Spring it is!
Incense and cardamom sound like wonderful notes. I’ll keep an eye out for Copal Azur.
I love Copal Azure, it is a sweet aquatic incense on me.
Hello, NST! I picked 4 perfumes for Spring and Winter and wrote their names down on little pieces of neon green paper. Then I put the pieces of paper into a small box, shook the box, and drew today’s SOTD.
Team Winter:
Angel Muse EdP
Womanity Les Parfums de Cuir
Youth Dew Amber Nude
Mitsouko EdP
Team Spring:
vintage Diorissimo
Seville a la Aube
Apres l’Ondee
Soivohle Lilacs & Heliotrope
Alas, I am agreeing with Punxsutawney Phil. 6 more weeks of winter with Angel Muse. At least I smell good.
You do! Yum
Checking in from aboard the Norwegian Eascape cruise ship. I went into a perfume shop in Nassau today and sampled Iris Noble. Pretty!
Enjoy the Bahamas and your whole trip Petunia!
Petunia, I hope you’re having a grand time! ????
I have two small bottles of vintage perfume that I bought recently from eBay–Jovan Frankincense and Myrrh and Jovan Modern Flowers, which I decided would be good representations of winter and spring. They are the exact same size and shape, so I put them in a bag, shook it around, reached in, and pulled out the first one my hand touched. It was Frankincense and Myrrh. I am not overly thrilled with either of my purchases. The F&M in particular smells “incomplete” to me, as if perhaps it has lost all its top notes. Consequently, I wore SSS Winter Woods today.
Long week! Thankfully it’s over and I can indulge now that work is done.
Unfortunately Winter is still here! I chose Maxed Out by 4160 Tuesdays courtesy of Hajusuuri. Now off to read everyone’s choices.
