Happy Vanilla Friday! (Plus, happy Popcorn Day, and happy birthday to Dolly Parton.) Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with vanilla.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser.
Reminder: on 1/26, wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Went with Shalimar, ’cause it’s Shalimar!
Twins! We smell great!
That was my original plan! Don’t know why I wasn’t in the mood today. You do (both) smell fantastic.
Mine, too, and more specifically, the Queen of all vanillas, Shalimar Mexique. But this a.m., my hand went to Hermes.
Nothing you can do 😉
Triplets! We do smell great!
Not a twin, but maybe a cousin in Shalimar Souffle de Parfum. Soft, soft vanilla drydown. mmmmmmm
Just home from work and joining in with Shalimar extrait..go big or go home. We smell amazing if I do say so myself.
In HM by Hanae Mori a classic men’s scent. Looking forward to the weekend!!
Caught Versailles 73 on Netflix last night and this is an entertaining documentary.
Have a great weekend.
Oh, that documentary looks great fun, thanks!
Tauer Vanilla Flash – so glad I have a bottle of this (someone mentioned it’s been discontinued due to vanilla shortage).
Scent twins! I’m also in Vanilla Flash, and feeling a little sad that it’s not available now, especially since I only have the rollerball. I hope it goes back into production when Andy can get his hands on the material he needs – maybe in 2019?
Saw that, it’s too bad. Makes it clear why so many of the big fragrance & flavor companies have changed the way they source raw materials to have their own agreements with sellers.
It’s not discontinued, just temporarily unavailable (although it was still in stock at Luckyscent yesterday). He said it should be ready to go back into production by the summer.
Chose MAC Shadescent Creme de Nude with a dash of Perry Ellis Oud Black Vanilla Absolute. The former softens and lifts the latter, and the latter gives depth to the former. Only possible because it’s below freezing this morning in SC, US. It’s going to be a good day. Happy Vanilla Friday, ya’ll!
Sorry it’s so cold, but glad it’s a good day anyway!
Vanille Insensee.
One of the best vanillas!
You know, I haven’t made my mind up about that one yet. I liked it the first time I tried it, so I got a bottle in the swapmeet, but now the incense just seems overpowering. Hmmmm.
Have you tried dabbing it? I prefer most of the Ateliers dabbed.
I haven’t tried that! I will.
It wasn’t my favorite either, although I should try it again, it’s been a while.
Wearing Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise. One of the few vanilla perfumes I really enjoy.
Have a happy Friday everyone!
VE is one of my fav vanillas too – gorgeous with no “cake” in sight!
That is what I like about VE, that it is cheerful and not gourmand.
Love this one, too!
🙂
Good stuff! You smell lovely.
Thank you!
Twins!! My first niche bottle, first online purchase (no AG to be had around here) and the only bottle in my collection that is half empty. I think I wore the heck out of it the first winter I had it. Still love it even though now I have lots of options.
The same here. I do not wear Vanille Exquise as often as I used to. But it still brings a smile to my face whenever I remember to wear it.
Smelling great!
Thank you! You also smell great in Burberry Brit! 🙂
Wearing Diptyque Eau Duelle – amazing combination of fresh, smoky and vanilla notes. I also dabbed a little of Molinard Vanille Marine (sea notes, caramel and vanilla). Plus Lush Sympathy for the Skin body lotion (a light scent of banana and vanilla).
Eau Duelle twins! I don’t have your other lovely layers, but I am loving the Diptyque.
Hello, twin. 🙂 And just as yours, my Eau Duelle is EDT.
It’s a great perfume! I love it in hot weather but I’ll need to try wearing it in the colder conditions – I’m sure it’ll do well.
Well I looked for my Dyptique Eau Duelle which is so vanilla and can’t find it. I may have given it away as I seldom go so vanilla. I like it but my mom wears it and who wants to smell like their mom, ha ha. So I am in Volutes instead. Maybe a bit but not a main note.
You smell lovely, vanilla or no!
You smell great! Love Volutes.
Homemade Spiced Creamsicle body oil- vanilla beans, cardamom pods and sweet orange essential oil in a carrier oil base of apricot kernel…fantastic all over moisturizer and I smell delicious 🙂
Wow! That sounds delish!
super easy to make!!!! go for it 🙂
Mmmmmm.
Yeah and it is making me hungry!
I think you get extra points for making your own answer to the project!
LOL! Poor man’s version of a creamsicle perfume.
Are you edible? mwahahaha
Hubs thinks so-LOL!!! You know me, h, I am always about the sweets and food 🙂
You smell FAB!!! 🙂
So do you!!! Don’t you just love cheap thrills?
PERFECT!
🙂
Great idea! I need to try this.
I’ve started preferring my homemade body oils to most purchased ones, too 🙂 I found a combination of carriers that works great for my skin, and now I can just put in the scents that make me happy!
YUP!
lately I have been on an oil kick..I have been wearing nothing but oils for the past two weeks….that is MY version of going commando!
Your body oil sounds luscious!
TM Angel Eau de Toilette
Happy vanilla Friday !
Extra points for chocolate + vanilla!
A few months back, I kept smelling a chocolately sweet smell near my bed, and I absolutely couldn’t find the source. It was pretty strong, so I eventually took the mattress off the bed, cleaned the frame and furniture, etc, thinking that someone had spilled something in my room. It didn’t smell bad, but I was just stymied to what it was and where….
Fast forward a few WEEKS later….I opened up a box of samples to look for something, and a mini of Angel body lotion had leaked the TINEST bit in the box! 🙂 Fabulous stuff….You smell great!
Angel is my nemesis but love it on other people!
Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille. Quite possibly the most beautiful vanilla in the entire world. I never tire of it.
I will have to smell it next time I am in a shop. I like the few things from that lien that I have tried.
It is certainly a classic. I wore it earlier in the week.
I can get on board with Popcorn Day! Lately I’ve been dousing my stove top popped corn with truffle salt — delicious!
SOTD: Cierge de Lune; a very pretty scent but would love a bit more incense
Mmmmmm, truffle salt.
Yum to truffled popcorn! I bought some truffle oil recently with the same intentions.
My lunch, which I am eating right now, consists of white-cheddar popcorn, which might not be nutritionally balanced, but whaddaya gonna do? It’s Popcorn Day.
White-cheddar popcorn is delicious! Do you have a favorite?
It’s my favourite flavour, but to be honest, I usually just buy whatever’s on sale, when I buy it, which isn’t all that often. This batch was President’s Choice (the house brand for an immense Canadian chain of supermarkets which has different names in different parts of the country but locally is called the Atlantic Superstore).
You smell so nice!
Ooooooh, popcorn…I should definitely make some for movie night tonight. Truffle salt sounds delightful.
Popcorn with truffle salt…mmm sounds delicious!
Pour un Homme Caron
On the bus to get my hair cut and it smells like Santal 33
Thanks for all the b-day wishes to baby Buddha, some kids books about orchestra I picked up when I was at the Philharmoc were the gifts.
If one has a chance, the performance of Maurice Ravel was spectacular
Did you let your babies listen to music while you were preggers? They both seem to be very musically-inclined.
I read this as “on the bus, getting my haircut” I was like What!?!
Ha! My salon is in the back of a motorcycle repair garage so a bus salon wouldn’t surprise me.
We have this in Portland, OR because of course we do. ( the bus is parked, however!)
Of course. Portland can always one-up Brooklyn, lol. Portlania is a reality TV show, right? ????
We have a “Henry the Dentist” trailer parked between 2 of our buildings. I have yet to see anyone walk in or out.
LOL!
Omg! Never!
Hahaha!
It has to be a real emergency, and that has to be the very last dentist in reachable area… Ugh…
HA! I meant to say I was on the bus on the way to getting my hair cut…Santal 33 is the official fragrance of NYC..smell it everywhere!!!
I like the idea of getting my hair cut on a bus or motorcycle repair shop seems really cool!
And forgot to mention, we’re haircut twins! Got mine cut last night.
Today is a good day – it’s Friday and I’m both a popcorn AND vanilla fan (although separately – I don’t like sweet popcorn).
Wearing a small spritz of Queen on one wrist and a dab of my remaining 3 drops of SDV decant on the other wrist. SDV is really perfection in my vanilla world.
You smell great. I am (finally 🙁 ) getting some recent SDV and other goodies ready tonight and out the door tomorrow. Thanks for your patience. 🙂
No worries! Happy Friday!
Oh, you smell GREAT!
I fell really hard for Queen this winter. I got a decant (from one of you lovelies) this fall, but was on the fence about it. Once the weather got really cold, I started wearing it and am absolutely smitten! It’s soo good. I bought a 15 ml mini spray bottle for about the price of a latte and biscotti. Can’t beat that!
One of the best cheapies!!
popcorn day is always a good day…
I chose SDV too. We smell great!
I am in SDV as well. An older (I think) formulation from a decant I got in a swap. I’m not normally a big vanilla fan, but in chilly weather, it is wonderful.
Think I’ll join you in Queen . I somehow managed to not do any vanilla in the three scents I’ve put on today ( BBW Black Amethyst -fully layered shower gel, body creme,EDT; TJMaxx haul SJP Stash oil on left hand , Reem Acra on right . )
I had planned to wear Habanita today but at the last minute wanted a really gourmand vanilla so I went for the (previously unsniffed) Vanille Francaise by Memoire Liquide. Which I swear is the name on the sample vial but I can’t find any mention of it online. I smell like a cupcake but there’s a mushroomy-earthy thing going on that stops it from being too sweet. I don’t love it but it scratched the itch!
That sounds not bad at all! Don’t even know if ML is still in business, I should look & see.
I remember reports of these popping up at Marshalls and TJMaxx during the spring or summer last year. I looked for Encens but never found them near me.
Thanks!
Well, I have zero vanilla-centric fragrances in my little collection so I can’t fully participate in the challenge. I was going to wear Balenciaga Le Dix (which does have a whisper of vanilla), but in the end my hand reached for a different named-after-the-house-address fragrance, 24 Faubourg. It smells as if it could have vanilla, but I don’t think it actually does … so no points for me. But I smell great. 🙂 Happy Friday, all!
I think 24, Faubourg has some amber in the base, so you’re not far off. You smell nice!
Thank you! You know, this never happens, but this morning I had sprayed from my regular bottle (almost empty), and then decided to add a little more from the back-up bottle … and the newer one actually smells better! Less buttercream frosting, and waaay more chypre-ish and interesting. Maybe it’s just the age of the older bottle (not that old, but had turned a bit darker in color lately)? Who knows – I’m just happy that the back-up is better rather than worse!
Is Le Dix named after the address? I have always been under the (perhaps unfounded) impression that it was named such as a direct reference to No 5.
You smell divine, either way. I should pull my bottle out as I don’t wear it nearly enough and it’s fabulous in winter.
Angela’s review of 24 Faubourg says Le Dix was named after the address, but I admit I’m taking it on faith. 🙂 Her review says: “Hermès released 24, Faubourg in 1995. It’s named after the address of Hermès’s flagship store and is one of a handful of perfumes named after fashion-centric addresses, including Balenciaga Le Dix and Chanel 31 Rue Cambon.”
Havana Vanille! Still my favorite vanilla. It has been discontinued, so boo. 🙁
Scent twins. I love that it’s not super sweet. It reminds me of baking with my mom when I was little. She always let me add the vanilla extract and that’s what it reminds me of. As I just lost my mom 1 month ago yesterday, it’s a comforting memory.
Sorry to hear about your mom. I am sure Havana Vanille will help you bring peace and comfort. Hugs.
I’m glad your perfume can bring you happy memories. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom, and glad that you have that comforting memory. Hugs.
I’m very sorry for the loss of your mother. Hugs and prayers to you.
I am sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mother.
I am sorry about your loss. HUGS to you!
I am so sorry about your mom. A mother’s love is so precious.
Oh, I’m so sorry. That’s a really sweet memory, though.
Sorry for your loss. Losing your mom is so hard but that’s a great scent memory.
My condolences. Hold on to all the great memories of you mom – fragrant and others.
I am sorry for your loss. Baking together is a beautiful memory.
My deepest condolences on your recent loss. That is one of those experiences which changes everything. It sounds like you are getting some comfort from your SOTD.
Oh Cape Mama, that’s so hard…adding to the condolences.
So sorry for your loss, Cape Mama.
I am so sorry, it is very difficult, I wish you peaceful comforting memories.
I am in very recent SDV today…muled back travel spray from Paris so the very current formula I expect.
It has a certain sourness to my nose initially…maybe I should be reading this as booze. 😉 But then it transforms a bit and gets fairly close to my old, almost dried up SDV decant.
So into vanilla. Here’s my to try list below…let me know what else to add…I may break down and do a LS order this weekend. I am very close to arriving at an “amount” or budget as some might call it. 😉
Dulcis in Fundo
Acqua e Zucchero
Farmacia Vaniglia del Madagascar
Madera
Tihota
Tihota
Did I mention Tihota??
And maybe think about Tihota? 😉
I have recently sampled Tihota and it is beautiful but I almost feel it is too straightforward somehow. Not sure if that makes sense. I almost wish it had more spice. I shall have to get a decant and spend more time with it.
Anima Dulcis (Arguiste)
Thanks for the recommendation!
Ooh! I need the lowdown on that muled SDV. I’ll send an email this weekend.
I had so many options today, but I ended op going for two vanillas by one and the same perfumer: Vanilia (discontinued) L’Artisan Parfumeur, and Fleur des Comores, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier. Both done by the late, great Jean Laporte. They do well together, and Luca does call FdC Vanilia 2, and I agree. Have a great weekend everyone, and I’m off to another Saturday filled with an exam ???? ????!
Vanilia is sublime. None of the vanillas they launched afterwards even come close (although Safran Troublant is great).
I can never quite make up my mind which is my favourite vanilla ( I also love Vanille Tonka), but Vanilia is the ultimate vanilla in a sense. I like it better than Havana Vanille.
Good luck with your exams!
Sorry, wasn’t feeling it for Vanilla Day. Been sticking with 31 Rue Cambon for the past several days. What can I say? It gets me.
You smell fantastic!
When a perfume calls you like that, you gotta go with it.
Always wear what gets you!
I had planned on Tihota today ( my very first back up bottle ever) ut yesterday beat me over the head with vanilla, so I used Dame Black FLower Mexican Vanilla body cream and hair oil, but layered Ellie Saab’s Essence No. 1 Rose over it. The rosewater of the scents really blends well with Dame’s vanilla.
Happy Friday – I’m a CPA and it is Jan, so I will be working on the weekend, but I hope those who are off enjoy it.
Mmm, I’ll bet you smell divine. Better to work 24/7 in the cold, bleak days of winter than in July, eh? Happy weekend regardless!
That’s a great vanilla! I didn’t know there was a hair oil!
Good idea!
Incidentally, I just got my first-ever BUB, too 🙂 It’s Mohur! I felt so guilty buying it! But then I realized that it was worth it just to stop stressing out over whether or not I would run out. (I am not even close to running out of my first bottle. It’s just an irrational fear.)
I had planned to wear Hanae Mori but tried Majda Bikkali Fusion Sacree -Clair instead and I love it! It’s fruity at first, then sort of reminds me of Seville a l’Aube, but with more vanilla. You wouldn’t like it if you don’t like sweet, but for me it is wonderful.
I liked that one. The initial phase smelled like celery sauteed in butter to me. Definitely different.
I saw some comments on fragrantica that indicated they smelled celery, but I get some kind of yummy fantasy fruit. I would swear there is incense in it, but it is not listed as one of the notes.
I wasn’t going to participate in the Friday project because of my lack of a wearable vanilla, which is a note that I dislike. However, I happened to be looking through my decants and came across Jicky, which is one of the few fragrances with vanilla that I like.
You smell great. I love Jicky.
Perfection.
SOTD = Indult Tihota
It is the mother of all vanillas. Need I say more?
I have been working from home for the past 2.5 days due to an issue with our work building and I have cabin fever. I will need to bust out later or tomorrow…now back to work!
Scent twins! Tihota IS the mother of all vanillas.
It is, isn’t it?
Scent Twin. This is a Queen of Vanilla, and the enabler pin goes to hajusuuri
I think we enable each other – perfume co-dependent
Tihota has been getting a lot of love here today! I’ll have to go look for it. I feel like I’ve hardly heard about Indult in general.
Ok, I just looked on Fragrantica–its only notes are vanilla and musk? What makes this scent better than, say, dabbing some vanilla extract on your wrists?
The musk makes it sexier.
I knew you liked those commute experiences, with which you entertain us! 😉
Tihota is one of a few perfumes with which our “twinness” doesn’t work: I can’t even say that I just didn’t like it – the only time I tried it, I thought I’d be sick. To put it in prospective: I’d rather wear Carnal Flower (the second perfume where you and I differ) than Tihota.
Oh no! So it’s on your never again list!
I was considering wearing Tommi Sooni Tommi Sooni II!
L’Artisan Havana Vanille, which I bought in 2011–I remember because I associate it with a trip I took that year, when I carried my bottle along. Wonderfully boozy vanilla. I am lucky, I still have about 2/3 of the bottle.
You smell great!
I luckily have a decant. I love it as a smell, but am still not sure whether it works as a perfume, if that makes sense.
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki
Just a small spritz before heading out for the day’s business and busy-ness, then I’ll top up later. The vanilla dry down in this one is something I always look forward to.
Lately popcorn with olive oil and sea salt is my favorite snack. Happy Birthday to Dolly and to my daughter. She has grown into a remarkable young woman. Time flies!
I wore that yesterday, and really enjoyed it. I have the rollerball version, and it seems to stick close and develop around me into a nice protective aura!
Happy birthday to your daughter!
Happy birthday to your lovely daughter!
Happy Birthday to your daughter! She must take after you with being remarkable☺
Happy Birthday to yoyr daughter! You’re smelling great today.
Happy birthday to your daughter (and congratulations on your achievement with bringing her up 🙂 )!
Popcorn is a great snack! Happy birthday to your daughter!
Happy birthday to your daughter! ????
I like that popcorn flavor too! Happy Birthday to your daughters!
Decided on SHL Taklamakan today. A not-too-sweet woody, dry vanilla. Not foody, and slightly salty, which is how I like it. Prefer it slightly more in warmer weather as I do get the “hot sand” effect it touts. Good I like it because it’s tenacious on me and it’ll be with me until I shower. Looking forward to finally seeing I, Tonya tonight! TGIF!
Have fun at the movie! I bought a decant of Taklamakan and wore it over the summer so I’ve only smelled it in warm weather. It was lovely, and I also love saying the name 🙂
Have you ever tried Phaedon Dzhari? It’s in that same desert-evoking category with Taklamakan and L’Air du Desert. I finished off a decant a couple of summers ago and have been wanting some since, but it’s hard to find.
I call it “ Muk-luk” in my mind ???? I haven’t tried much from Phaedon except Tabac Rouge or maybe Rouge Avignon? And the cucumber one. If a line has a lot to choose from and I don’t like the first few, I usually quit.
You smell lovely. Taklamakan is another vanilla that I don’t find too sweet.
Thanks! One of the few that I like.
Eau Duelle! I love this woody vanilla so much. ????
Thought we’d see more Duelle today!
In vintage Shalimar today – based on the packaging and production label, it’s probably from the late 1960’s. It’s lovely, but *tiny voice* I think I like my Ode a la Vanille Madagascar better. SCANDAL!
Shhhhh! Such a scandalous comment. 😉 I’ll admit that I wear my Shalimar Mexique more than my vintage 1970’s Shalimar. I have to be in the mood for the vintage, but, man, it is sooooo good.
I have multiple bottles of Shalimar, mostly vintage, and wear all of them, but the Ode a la Vanilles are really something special. I treasure my bottle of Mexique and wear it only in winter.
To misquote Andrew Zimmern, “If it smells good… WEAR IT!”
Happy FriYAY Y’all!
Last night I googled “Best Vanilla Fragrances”, when I was thinking about today, and Victoria’s Secret Coconut Passion came up on two lists. So that’s what I went with, because I just gave the body mist to my 13 yr old for Christmas.
It’s cheap, but it’s pretty good! Smells like I spilled a bottle of vanilla extract on myself, but it’s fading fast…. 🙂
Tonight I’ll go to the trouble to find my Tihota sample and compare the quality!
Enjoy your weekend everyone….
SOTam is Smell Bent One. It is like the drydown of Organza Indecence without the wait. Lovely. I could use some punch though – maybe after lunch I’ll put on some TM Alien Essence Absolue. I’ve been really craving orientals this winter. Cheers!
I like One very much, but I like the orangey bits of OI too.
Interesting.
Once again I am wearing vintage (1970s) Emeraude pdt for a Friday challenge. Looks like *my* preferred version of Shalimar is actually its inspiration! 😉
I had wanted my 2009 bottle of PdN Vanille Tonka, but couldn’t find it. Maybe I did use it all up, after all.
The past few months I’ve been OD-ing on my vintage Emeraude . It’s just the fragrance I crave wearing, especially when I’ve been at home for snow days and the holidays. Pajamas, old movies, bourbon & Emeraude. It’s liquid cuddle. It is so sensual but comforting. I even tried just a dab on my pillow. It is divine.
Wow!
Your nights sound like perfection.
If I get some sleep, it is perfection!
I have a mini of Emeraude of unknown vintage and it’s so good!!
I’m wearing and loving Eau Duelle EDT. I find the EDP to be too much, but the EDT is perfect – there’s enough herbs and smoke to make the vanilla behave itself.
I just want to give Dolly Parton a huge happy birthday – not only does she have an amazing voice, but her Imagination Library is absolutely incredible. They send more than one million books to kids around the world each month, which is mind-blowing. Props to Dolly!
https://imaginationlibrary.com/usa/
I did not know about that, thanks!
Hi everyone! I’m wearing Lancome Oud Bouquet today. I honestly don’t smell oud at all. Lots of sweet, sweet vanilla, and spice. I looked up the notes, and it’s possibly saffron I smell. This stuff if very strong, just one spray is enough. Have a great day!
Oh, I have seen that on different sites! Thanks for letting us know!
I should probably also mention that it does smell very synthetic. I like it though, and the bottle is beautiful.
I don’t have an issue with synthetic so that is okay- well blended and actualized is what I care about. I will keep my eyes open!
I went with Shalimar Ode a la Vanille sur la Route du Mexique today. It’s not as cold out as it was a few days ago, but still a little chilly, so it hits the spot. And it’s not a sweet vanilla, which I like.
You smell perfect.
Enjoying my scent bubble wearing Mon Precieux Nectar.
Any crazy day at work. I will read the comments later.
Hope the day calmed down later Petunia!
It did! Thanks Robin
You smell great!
Thanks to you, dear hajusuuri, and the awesome split that you hosted. I really enjoy MPN. I’ve contemplated a FB for a long time but it’s so huge. I wish it was available in a smaller size.
MFK Grand Soir – not a vanilla in the center of attention but it’s there!
Yum!
Nice!
Off-theme today in Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur. Nozknoz was the wonderful shaman (one of many here at NST) who guided me to this several years ago.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Love that one!
You smell wonderful!
Beautiful!
Such a great leather — you smell fabulous!
It’s Janis Joplin’s birthday today and I am listening to her rendition of Ball and Chain. Today was a tough choice for vanilla. I had the choice of regular Shalimar, Shalimar Ode a la Vanille, Havana Vanille, SDV, and Vanilla Flash. At the end of the day, I went with Vanilla Flash because it’s awesome.
Wear a perfume because it’s awesome would make a good project.
😀 😀
Yes it is — last year on this day I posted her pic for the SOTD, so I figured I’d give Dolly her turn 🙂
Well, it has been an extremely busy week with the new house and work, so I haven’t been able to put a lot of thought into the project. Since I enjoyed the Made in Heaven so much on Wednesday I went with it again yesterday- I enjoyed it even more than Wednesday. I could still catch whiffs of it last night which was nice.
Today I am back in my beloved Shalimar! It’s soooo perfect to me. The new house has built-in bookshelves in the master bedroom and I’ve dedicated a whole shelf to perfume. I love it so much!
Ooh, perfume shelf in the bedroom! NICE!
That does sound tempting — the only perfumes in my bedroom are samples in the night table drawer.
I made it thru a week of vanilla! SOTD is Xinu Copala, which is a lovely vanilla incense with a dash of pink pepper.
TGIF! I finally got my flu shot yesterday, so I’m having mini-flu today as my immune system does its thing. Achy and stiff, hope this passes quickly, and hope this means I’ll avoid getting the real thing.
The Copala sounds good, hope you feel better soon!
Good luck! My son’s arm hurt for 2 days but he avoided mini-flu this year.
I tried Xinu Monstera, which is intriguing. I’ll try to remember to sample Copala, too. I love their bottles!
SotD is Incense royale, by sultan pasha attars.
All kinds of wood (oud, cedar), opoponax, benzoin, labdanum….and bourban VANILlA absolute!!!
So I am on theme. 🙂
The vanilla is gorgeous in this one, but i seldom encounter vanilla scents I like.
And sanpled today Under my skin by Francesca Bianchi (spelling?), Oh wow…wonderful!
I really want to try Under my Skin after reading Claire V’s review of it on her blog. Do you love it? Full bottle worthy?
Its great, but it is my first try…so I am hesitant to call it ‘FB worthy’ right away. 😉
But yes, first impression is very very good!
I keep meaning to sample her stuff and then forget since no one mentions them. Thanks for the reminder!
Queen. Pretty sure there’s just a wee bit of vanilla in there.
Security Woes, Episode 1: Paid money to park in a casino lot for the night. Every casino I’ve been to has been free, so I’m already peeved. Rec’d The obligatory dashboard pass to say I coughed up my money and displayed it as indicated. Woken up not once, but TWICE (!), by security pounding on my van and flashing a tactical light in my eyes! I finally rolled the window down, AFTER having to thrown some clothes on and they want to know why I was parked in the lot?! Grrrr! Security people are just a hairs breath away from being fully fledged Gestapo. Pretty sure if they had the power they would have taken me to a room for ”questioning.”.
I complained to management and got a shrug of the shoulders.
I’m PO’d but I still smell good✌????
That’s horrible and scary. I’m sorry that happened to you. Hope you get to actually sleep tonight.
What a nightmare!
UGH, so sorry!
That’s terrible. This is minor compared with what you went through. Some credit card companies ask you to enter your full account number and then when the transaction you want to do cannot be handled through self-service, the CSR who comes on asks you to give the entire account number again!
Scary, and since you’d paid, really irritating. 🙁 Hope you sleep well tonight.
Vanille 44, from a rapidly dwindling decant that I probably can’t/shouldn’t replace. It’s a dry and delightful vanilla incense, and I have a couple of meetings today where I wouldn’t want to smell too strongly or of candy.
Scent twin, we smell great!
We do, don’t we 😉
Aren’t you glad you tried it at Barneys? ????
This is my second most favorite vanilla (after MdO’s Vanille) but since I do not wear vanilla fragrances often enough AND I have a bottle of my #1, I also probably shouldn’t be replacing my Vanille 44 decant once it’s gone (though I know that I’ll hoard the last drops forever – just not to have to make that decision).
You smell great!
No hoarding!
This is one of my favorites!
Hi All!
1) SOTD: Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie. I smell like a sexy vanilla/almond cookie. Perfectly unisex and fun; I can actually see this as something a mom would spray over the whole family. Y9ou can check it out here:
https://www.carolsdaughter.com/almond-cookie-eau-de-toilette/820645223059.html
2) Strayed from my prescribed diet and OOFF waking up this morning was not pleasant. That will teach me! Sticking with straight and narrow.
3) OOTD: Blue tunic, dark skinny jeans, and sneaker boots. Big earrings.
You smell great AND look great! Nice combo.
I am all about a sneaker boot! I bought 2 pair (1 fur-lined) this fall and another pair today (!) I usually wear knee-length or ankle boots with a heel in winter, and the sneaker boot has been kind of life-changing. All mine are slip-on or have zippers – best of all possible worlds – and I’ve put shearling liners in them so they’re nice and cozy. I also got some really cute wool zip-up superga high tops. I don’t know if I’ll ever want to wear a heel again – even my moderate 2 1/2″ ones. Which is kind of a problem since I’ve got a closet full of them…
Sneaker boots in the winter are simply wonderful- comfortable and fashionable without pinched feet!
I have awesome court pumps that I love to wear but loafers and sneakers really make hard to justify the pinched feet.
Happy Friday! I love vanilla and popcorn – I’ll be sure to pop some up tonight. I am wearing Smell Bent One. It’s so nice – not too sweet, a little spicy.
Second mention today, so I see I need to try One.
M. Micallef Note Vanillee, which I’ve had as a sample kicking around for a long time. I did get citrus, so it seems to have survived well. Boozy, citrus Vanilla…just a tiny dab until I shower, then I’ll be more generous.
It occurs to me with the citrus and booziness here, I might add a hint of Vanilla to my ham glaze next time.
I wear this and wonder why I didn’t like vanilla at one time.
Love the ham glaze idea!
i’m in Reminiscence Vanille. Haven’t worn it yet this winter, but I plan to remedy that! It has some nice amber, too.
I wish R had better distribution in the US.
I think Beautyhabit carries it.
I know you can get it here, I just meant wish you could walk into a store and find a tester 🙂
Got it!
Aquolina Pink Sugar
left the house without fragrance, made it to Kohls during my series of errands – I was desperately looking up all of these scents on fragrantica ????
Now that’s dedication!
Ha, what I lack in discernment I make up for in enthusiasm!
Yay, I was afraid PS would not make a showing today!
Here to serve ????
Thank you for unlocking me after my fat fingers repeatedly typed in the wrong password ????
Just using for Fragrantica, I looked up Marc Jacobs decadence, Michael Kors Sexy Amber, donna Karan black cashmere mis, etc. etc. and after playing with the Nicki Minaj plastic heads – I finally found a vanilla!
Verdict after this week – I think I like vanilla! I did not know that 🙂
Hey, thank you for not getting overly annoyed by the annoying spam filter that locks people out just because they repeatedly type in the wrong password!
Thanks for unlocking me so quickly! I think i was overly caffeinated and just kept acting in the wrong password.
Indult Tihota for me today. I used to pay ridiculous prices to StC and TPC for decants of this discontinued gem, so when the perfume company Indult resurrected itself, I bought a bottle immediately. It might possibly be my Holy Grail vanilla (can’t commit). 😉
LOL. We smell good!
As much as I appreciate the service provided by STC, the mark up made me cringe that I swore I wouldn’t buy unless it is 20% off and I would rather just get large “samples”. TPC I will never use again even if they paid me to buy something from them.
Yeah, I hear ya about the markup from StC.
Gloomy Friday, dear friends. During this morning’s swim, I got pushed into the side of the pool and scraped my Apple watch against it. When I popped up, I discovered the waterproof casing had cracked.
You may recall that I broke an Apple watch while swimming last year, too. That time, it was mostly my own fault. This time, it wasn’t! And therefore I am much more unhappy. It works fine–I managed to turn it off and get it dry in time–but I can’t use it in the pool, which is my primary need for an Apple watch. Grump grump grump.
I’m wearing MFK Grand Soir in an attempt to give myself a hug, but it’s not cheering me up that much. The vanilla is less prominent to my nose, acting more as a soft base, but it’s certainly present. Hopefully, the day will get better from here 🙁
Darn – that’s a bad start to the day. I hope it improves and certainly smelling wonderful seems like a good omen!
So sorry about your watch. You smell great though.
Sorry about your watch. I have one and have a scratch on the glass so afraid to take it in the pool. Does the activity tracking work with swimming? I heard mixed reviews on that.
Yeah, the swimming tracker has always worked great for me!
Does your crack penetrate the surface? I just discovered that you can get screen protectors for the watch. I don’t know if those are swimming compatible, but they might help diffuse the impacts that result in cracked screens.
Wait – when did you buy this replacement? Maybe this time you can utilize a guarantee through your credit card?
Wearing Bruno Acampora musc oil with Shalimar Vanille/Madagascar.
That sounds like a nice combo!
It does!
J Crew/ Arquiste No 57 for me today
I like this one but probably won’t miss it once my small bottle is done.
I love that one, you smell good!
Love that! You smell great!
Byredo’s Inez & Vinoodh, which, thanks to its sharp iris, is about the only scent with a half-way prominent vanilla note I can actually stand
Ooh, I never heard of this one!
It’s the same thing as Byredo 1996, if that rings a bell.
A ha! Yes!
I feel a bit like I am cheating – wearing vintage Fendi today. I am sure there is vanilla in here but it sure isn’t the first thing I get! My 10 year old daughter smelled me and faked a dead faint. ????
You smell Amazing!
Your daughter is hilarious.
She is!
Haha! Adorably dramatic. Was that a swooning faint or her way of saying “don’t wear that again”?
Ha! No, she was sitting on the bed, went wide eyed and just fell over stiff as a board – she wa over powered! It was cute. She actually tends to like the heavier stuff!!
Wearing LM Parfums Sensual Orchid from the decant waiting to pull the trigger on a FB purchase: what a beautiful perfume (thank you, hajusuuri). And it has vanilla in it – so I’m participating in the project.
Have a quick Friday, everyone.
I am not a fan of this brand. The only one I quite liked was Vol d’Hirondelle.
Oh? I’ve tried Sensual Orchid and Epine Mortelle Extrait and found both really lovely.
I’m not sure if I tried any other perfumes from this brand, but Sensual Orchid was an instant love.
I didn’t even think to wear this! I got mine on sale from OsswaldNYC.
Today is TF Tobacco Vanilla. I love this scent on cold days, I need another bottle! I need to start saving my pennies.
And as for Popcorn day, last night we had popcorn and I sprinkled it with some gifted homemade Smoked Garlic Salt. OMG! My friends need to sell it, they’d make a fortune.
I’d buy that salt. Sounds delicious!
If I have to name a single TF perfume (to take on the desert island), it would have been Tobacco Vanilla – though I’m curious how much the current version is different from the one I have.
Smoked Garlic Salt sounds yummy!
My favorite sea salt is by a spice company in San Francisco called San Francisco Fire Sea salt, I add this (along with grated parmesan cheese) to popcorn and it’s stellar! Their Cherrywood smoked sea salt is also great – I enjoy it on a mixed greens salad with olive oil and lemon juice, it’s the perfect counterpart to balance the acidity of the lemon juice. Link to Spice Ace is below..

I’m in Chypre Mousse now, but I will be ready for something else later, and I think you all have me in the mood for Shalimar.
I have some Tihota to share with any of you vanilla fans who have never tried it. I will decant up to three samples from my bottle. Please reply below if you’d like one or email me at enkessler at g mail dot com. 🙂
Hi! I sent you an email 🙂 It has been a very Shalimar week around here!
I would love to try it! Thanks for your generous offer. Sending an email now.
If you still have a sample available, I would be interested. Thank you very much! Will email you soon.
It’s a steamy hot morning and all thw windows and doors are open. The air smells like fresh mulch. I had a big bucket of windfall apricots I collected and have been stewing. and the sweet scent lingers. What a wonderful smell. Perfume: cardamon Coffee with BdV …really nice. That article about the hunter gatherers having abstract names for odours has got me fired up. I can’t decide if it makes perfect sense or no sense at all ( because it would require people to experience and respond to scent in one way? And they don’t). If a colour is given an abstract name ‘red’ we can all see it in our mind’s eye. And it would probably be a similar colour for everyone. But odour…the word for the smell in my house is Aprivert!
I was very interested to read that tidbit.
This book addresses words for colour in different languages. I´ve only read part of it, but it´s quite interesting.

Oh dear! This is why I never get to finish Middlemarch. First the Kay Graham autobiography ( on order ) and now this. Thanks for the link.
Hello all, from an exhausted Koenigsberg. Our shambling, stumbling programme is finally lurching through Cutover and Go Live this weekend, so everyone is busy and tired.
SOTD is Comptoir Sud Pacifique “Vanille Extreme”.
Notes are raw sugar, milk, vanilla and heliotrope absolute.
It’s okay, but a bit insipid. I much preferred yesterday’s re-test of sister fragrance “Vanille Abricot” – I might even buy that one, since I’ve enjoyed it both times I tested.
Top: papaya, jackfruit and apricot;
Base: vanilla and sugar.
That said, I am not buying perfumes right now. Design company is working out the remodelling of our Malaga place and until I get a number that doesn’t make me pass out, I am not buying frivolous things like perfume or clothes or food. (Okay, kidding about the food)
Glad to see you! Hopefully you will get a decent bid soon for the remodeling.
I was just wondering how you were doing last night! Good to hear from you!
A hot and humid morning, so not like the usual Wellington weather – I love it! I’m eating breakfast in the traces of last night’s Fate, which arrived yesterday. I’d been dithering over this for years, and glad I finally made the purchase. It is very vanilla to my nose, but not too sweet. As I’m sure I’ve commented before, I love the smell of vanilla in baking, but not so much to wear.
It’s muggy here which is odd. I have never tried Fate but it sounds nice.
It’s not usual here either. I’ve just hung out the washing and it’s almost uncomfortably hot out at 8.15 in the morning!
Put Hermes Vanille Galante on this morning. I am going back & forth between liking it and feeling like I’m smelling shampoo. The vanilla note in it is nice, though.
Will be going to a Prokofiev festival tonight in Misia. I’d been planning to wear Shalimar Mexique today but didn’t, which might be for the best as I don’t think Misia on top of Shalimar Mexique would make for the most winning combination. I’m also battling the urge to spray myself with Queen Latifah Queen, but same conundrum. Queen might make a lovely perfume for a night at the symphony (although my neighbors may disagree) but I always wear Misia as it pairs so beautifully with the music. It also wears quietly on me so I don’t have to worry about gassing out the people around me.
Happy Friday, all!
I love that one, but will admit I get the reference to shampoo 🙂
Hope it is a great evening!
Happy Friday, my fragrant friends,
SOTD–Field Notes From Paris, not vanilla-centric, but it’s in there with the smoke.
I’ve been MIA for much of the start of 2018, but I want to be more active here as the year unfolds. I also plan to organize the sh** out of my closet, including all my ‘fumes. In anticipation of upcoming swaps and freebies, can somebody tell the name of that thin, filmy tape that many of you use to wrap samples and caps for shipping? Also, where do you purchase it? I want to curate my collection and concentrate of the most beloved of my scents, share the rest, and simplify, simplify!!
Parafilm. I buy it on ebay. Welcome back!
Ebay.
I bought my on Amazon.
Habit Rouge, which also, at times, gives off a faint ‘buttered popcorn’ aura, according to some. I think I’d agree?
HR Dress Code has that, too. It’s kind of sweet salty.
Right! The so-called ‘praline’ accord… It’s funny, but I notice that accords that appear as listed notes in some of the HR flankers (like the green bamboo note that is supposed to be in HR Sport) are basically more articulated versions of things already lurking in the original. Not a new idea, I suppose, but one very well explored here!
Yeah, I actually didn’t find Dress Code and the edt to be *that* different beyond the top notes. The praline to me is just a slight variation of the vanilla to me. I do like it though-maybe I should actually wear it ????
Tauerville Vanilla Flash for me today, layered over some BBW Vanilla Almond lotion. Happy Friday!
I need to expand my collection of scented lotions, that sounds like a great combo.
That sounds like a very cozy combo! Love almond in pretty much anything…
Today’s SOTD is L’ Artisan’s Vanille (the original launched in 1978). :).
You’re in good company today!
Excellent!
Late posting today, but popping in on my lunch break. It’s a bit chaotic at work today, as we’re hoping for an 11th hour miracle to stave off the government shutdown that will be triggered at midnight without a short- or long-term budget from Washington. 🙁 (I work for a federal science agency.) It is so unbelievably disruptive to have make these kinds of preparations in the middle of long-term, time-sensitive projects, knowing how disruptive it will be to walk away and then start them up again days or weeks later, completely off schedule, while new work rolls in on top of what’s already behind. It’s frustrating to see just how dysfunctional our country has become. (Sorry for my mini-rant.)
Trying to stay focused today, and stick to our vanilla theme. Sweet scents are not what I want today, and I’ve mostly moved away from them, anyway, so Arquiste’s The Architects Club is working out nicely. I like its very unisex presentation: it’s a deep vanilla bean scent that is sugar-free and quite woody, with a very noticeable angelica note and a hit of smooth amber. It’s office friendly and season-less.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! And to my fellow feds, hang in there 🙂 .
I’ve been intermittently glued to this whole debacle. I can only imagine the stress it’s causing you being in limbo. Hang in there and hoping for the best outcome for you!
Oof, what an uncomfortable and stressful position to be in.
It’s SUPER stupid and stressful and dysfunctional. Both my parents work for the federal government (they live in DC), so they have the great pleasure of having to deal with this nonsense every time it comes up. I recently listened to a Planet Money episode on how the budget system became so stupid, if you’re interested. It makes me furious.
Joining lots of you in Vanilla Flash. I’ve had a busy and semi stressful week so haven’t been posting but have worn vanilla all week.
My brake light switch went out on Tuesday, or it could have been a prior day, but no one on the road told me until a cyclist did during the evening commute. So I had to get that replaced, which ended up being free under warranty because Kia upgraded the part. Then ended up doing a full brake system replacement while my car was in the shop. Several hundred dollars later it feels really good to have that all taken care of. And I’m so ready for the weekend!
Good thing you had all that car stuff taken care of!
Robin, in response to a question you asked earlier this week: I think my tastes in vanilla have changed partly due to experience (or getting picky ????) and partly due to changing body chemistry. Also, I live in a different climate now then when I first started sniffing perfumes, so that might also factor in.
SOTD = back in Burberry Brit EdT. I think I am going to try to wear more of my bottles this year, rather than samples. So far, so good!
Right, that makes sense. I have gotten pickier in some ways, but my tastes have also widened.
Hey, all you vanilla-scented people! I’m in Tauerville Vanilla Flash today. Mmm.
Aside from smelling delish, I’m still on a geek-out high from *finaly* seeing ‘The Last Jedi’ yesterday. It’s turned out to be perfect timing for savoring today’s great smackdown Twitter thread from Rian Johnson. **[Spoiler Alert, if you haven’t seen it!]**
https://mobile.twitter.com/rianjohnson/status/954398403986731008
On a related note, ‘Sassy Luke Skywalker’ is exactly the spirit animal I’ve been looking for.:

Happy Friday and have yourselves a fantastic weekend!
Wow, you are late! (I have not seen it, but don’t plan to — but my son & my husband thought they saw it late, and they saw it ages ago.)
Berdoues Vanira Moorea for me today! It’s a bright, citrusy vanilla — very cheerful.
Cheerful is good!
