Friday scent of the day 11/10

Posted by Robin on 10 November 2017 261 Comments

Happy Playlist Friday! Our community project for today: name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song. (Yes, I loved this project so much, we're doing it again. If you want to see the first one, it's here.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm going for chill, Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate for Pat Metheny Last Train Home.

Reminder: 11/17 will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (Another repeat — we did this in 2015.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Its a scent that feels (not smells) to me like walking in a forest and see rays of sunshine through the trees right after the rain.

The musical equivalent is hearing Jeff Buckley and Liz Fraser sing together, so beautiful!

Hang on to your albums, they are gold! Nothing beats listening to them, skips and all. Not quite the same sound as as a download.

Unfortunately my Mom got rid of my albums without my knowledge. I found out from my sister! I still shed a few tears once in awhile. I should have taken them when I moved out then moved out of the province.

It’s actually like an old pharmacy. They have a soda/ice cream shop on one side and the other they sell tons of shaving products, scented soaps, perfumes, hair accessories etc. A really neat place. I ran in just to get a look at it yesterday and they had a lot of stuff that you don’t necessarily find at Sephora (plus some of the usual dept store stuff). Bond No. 9, Annick Goutal, a lot of Guerlain, just a really great selection overall.

    My song/perfume combo is:

Ella Fitzgerald “C’est Magnifique” and Dior J’adore. Whenever I hear this song, and she sings “but then once more, she whispers Je t’a dore”, images of this perfume and its bottle appear in my head. I don’t wear it a lot, and I didn’t like it the first few times I tried it. It is definitely growing on me though.

I was walking through town yesterday and stopped at the counter and for lack of any better options sprayed Diorissimo . This was my mother’s perfume ( and Dior Dior) in the 60s so I have paired it with (NZ singer) Anika Moa’s ‘Mother’. The words of this song always strike me as a miracle. I grew up in a house where although love was a given, and understood, it was impossible to say ‘I love you’ aloud. I’ve always marvelled at people who can just say it naturally instead of living through moments of tortured silence.

That’s a tough one. I grew up in a house where we said it a lot. I always marveled at how my dad could say it to my sister and I, but when he was growing up they never said it at all. My uncle, his brother, whom I’m quite close to still can’t reciprocate when I say it to him. I’ll say “love you” when we get off the phone and he always pauses as if he wants to say it in return, but then always replys, “thank you.”

      Loved this – so beautiful.

Yes, also hard to say in the family where I grew up. I wonder why – maybe that generation of parents who grew up with strict and serious parents trying to get their families through the depression?

Anyway, we say it lots in our family of 3 boys, DH and me.

I was not thinking about pairing the perfume at all. I needed a good sweet boost this morning and Queen was handy. It was funny when I turned the car radio on and Dancing Queen was playing. Not the best pairing, just the name association :D

Off topic: I’m likely the last to know this, but even the scent of nag champa has been changed. I haven’t burned any in a few years, and the sticks in the new box are sweeter, for one thing. This is a huge disappointment.

But I don’t detect any change in Corso Como, hurray hurray. I haven’t had any of it in years, either, but my little bottle from the split meet is making me so happy! So what should my TOTD be? I’m lousy with this, but maybe something from Cavaliera Rusticana?

Happy Friday Everyone! My all time favorite song is Sweet November. It was originally done in the 80’s by a group called The Deele, which included Babyface. It was remade in the 90’s by a group called Troop. Honestly, both versions are amazing, so I can’t choose which I like better.
My SOTD only goes with the song because I feel its a Fall/ Winter scent. And since we’re in the month of November, its fitting. I am wearing Basil & Neroli by Jo Malone.????

SOTD = Andy Tauer’s Lonesome Rider.

    The song to match:

“On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine moaning out its one-note song”

“Turn The Page”. Reader’s choice if you go with the original by Bob Seger, or if the Metallica cover is more your style.

SOTD = When We Cuddle and I Can Smell My Perfume on Your Clothes by Andy Tauer

Community Project fail. I was going to link to the sound clip of Elmo’s laugh until I realized the laugh was from Tickle Me Elmo and not Cuddle Me Elmo. Maybe I will spray this on my plush fox tail and cuddle with it on this cold night – brrrrr.

When a senior manager (not directly in my management chain but related) tells you that he communicated something to the team yesterday, you would think that the entire team of 16 who sit together in the same work location and who had an all day meeting together yesterday would have been told the news. One would be wrong to assume that, no matter how sound one’s logic was in developing that assumption. hajusuuri ended up breaking not bad but not pleasant news to said manager’s team this afternoon and there was no way to take it back. I know it won’t come back to bite me but it was not my place to deliver the news and I ended up doing so in my quest to prepare to execute on the news.
