Happy Fougère Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fougère, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: I decided to go old school, so I'm in vintage Old Spice. (Actually, I think it smells more like an oriental, but Classification des Parfums et Terminologie says it is a spicy fougère so that's good enough for me.)
Reminder: 11/10 will Playlist Friday...name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song. (Yes, I loved this project so much, we're doing it again.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Well I was more in a vetiver mood so it is the one by Dyptique for me today. I like the descriptions of fougères but am not sure what I had on hand that would qualify.
When you’re in a vetiver mood you have to go with it 🙂
have you tried the new EDP that came out too long ago?
I have not, it has been awhile since I have been to an actual store to try new things
DRAKKAR NOIR
and Robin you are smelling great! Old Spice came out in 1937 and it was originally marketed for women…I consider it an oriental as well. I had a boss who wore it daily and I loved the way it smelled on him.
The old stuff is amazing. I have not smelled a new bottle in a long while.
You are smelling more fougere-ish than I am!
Oh wow, you have vintage…man, that is some good stuff!!!
Honestly, my skin is so weird, the Drakkar wears like a skin scent and smells oddly of a dark brooding lavenderesque vanilla…not getting fougere at all from this…I should have gone with my Field Notes…that smells like “barbershop” on my skin…in fact I wore it work once and someone said “Who smells like men’s shaving cream???”
My skin is weird then because I do not get shaving cream from Field Notes! (Now I’ll have to wear it this weekend and be sure that’s true.)
It smells completely different on a younger family member…she “made me” buy her a full bottle a few years ago and then left it at home. It is warm and tobacco-y on her skin.
I get shaving cream (and dirty ashtrays) from Field Notes also. Totally wasn’t expecting that when I tried it.
That was my father’s after shave, I think, in the ’40s and ’50s. I never knew it was originally marketed for women.
I think the original would smell phenomenal on a woman.
One of my six housemates at college had a boyfriend on the baseball team who would sometimes come over and watch TV with us. I had no envy of Christine for dating Andrew, except when he was freshly sprayed with Drakkar Noir, because that was some amazing stuff. MMMM. (It doesn’t smell the same to me now, not at all. Sad.)
oh that is a great story, mals! I will confess that I stole some vintage Drakkar from Mr. CM8 this morning. He hasn’t worn this stuff in 20 years but did confess to me that the only reason he bought the bottle to begin with was that he overheard two young women discussing their reactions to it…apparently the same as yours 🙂
I don’t have the same reaction to the current version, but back in the day… whew.
All the boys in my middle school bathed in Drakkar Noir. (A few wore Polo.) Smelling it immediately throws me back to 1990.
I did not care for Polo but have always had a soft spot for Drakkar.
At mine, too, but in the 80s 😉
I loved Polo and wanted some for myself but settled for Ralph Lauren Chaps. In high school I wore Obsession for Men. Nowadays I feel quite uncomfortable in anything too *masculine.* Go fig.
Same. I was a freshman on high school in 1990 and all the dreamy upperclassmen guys wore it.
I had a European brand (Fa ir the like) body wash calked Burgundy in the late 80s that smelled like Drakkar. I loved it!
Smelling like my high school/college days! Love it.
🙂
yeah, it brings back memories for me too.
Smelling good!!
I was on the hunt for my hubby’s bottle of Drakkar Noir that I bought him many many years ago but he said he gave it to his Dad!! Really, and without my permission?
Maybe he thought his dad would get more use out of it 🙂 Our bottle sits in the medicine cabinet collecting dust…I really should just wear it myself.
Finally Friday!!!!!!
Wearing L’artisan Fou d’Absinthe in big amounts. I really needed to have that alcohol, booze feeling around me to celebrate that I survive 2 long weeks without rest at work and I do not mind if people get the wrong idea about me today. Not at all…..
LOL! hope you have an incredibly peaceful weekend…start sniffing those essential oils 🙂
Thank you! 😀
I will finally relax this weekend and the essential oils are already calling my name and waiting for me. They will be of great help to reach that peace I need!
Essential oils are the “bestest”!!!! 🙂
Hey CM8 (I like that as your spy name): Have you an opinion on Copaiba oil? It’s my newest oil and I’m trying to figure out its best use?
Not sure what you bought it for but this site gives some great information-
https://drericz.com/copaiba-essential-oil-uses/
and yes, I rather like CM8 (also easier to type!)
Have a relaxing weekend. Finally!
Thank you Glannys! I will for sure 🙂
If you can’t drink booze at work, might as well smell like it! Happy for you and hoping the upcoming weeks are less brutal.
We are not allowed to drink at work, but as you said at least I am smelling like it 😀
We are always busy, but I hope for less stressful days to come. The weekend will be quiet for sure!
As soon as your work day is done, go out and find the most elaborate fancy cocktail you can and toast yourself!
Oh! I will for sure! 😀
So glad for your weekend off. You’ve for sure earned it!
Thank you Lillyjo!
Have a fantastic weekend. Hopefully you’ve earned a few extra days off to make up for all the time banked and enjoy your beverages of choice!
Already planning what to do with those days off…. 😀
Jicky EDP, Jicky EDT and Fougere Bengale – Jicky because it’s a classic, and FB because it has “fougere” in its name. 🙂 FB is a bit too foody for my liking (i. e. it smells like a mix of spices for soup or another dish), though it’s still an interesting scent. On the other hand, I am quite enjoying Jicky today.
A trifecta!
Tuscany Per Uomo Forte Aramis.
A fougere that is all lemons, herbs, and cedarwood, on my skin.
For sh!ts and giggles I searched this on eBay, and sellers are requesting outrageous amount for a bottle.
Asking is not receiving.
????
Took the day off.
Triple strength coffee.
Extra extra long workout because……..
Made spaghetti and meatballs, with lots of garlic, black pepper, Pecorino Romano and whole milk Ricotta cheeses, for breakfast!
As everyone in my Italian family always says, “MANGIA !!!” (All caps required! )
LOLOLOL
????????????????????????????????
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
????
lemon, herbs and cedar seem almost as good as your breakfast
It is a great fragrance, thanks shellyw !
????
Enjoy your day off Bear and please send some of that spaghetti and meatballs. I can smell it from here 😀
I sounds really good!
Thanks, perfumelover67!
I hope you can relax too !
????????????????????????
Really I like 0% fat Greek yogurt as a staple, but when I cook Italian it has to be full fat, b????lls to the wall, baby!
MANGIA !
Enjoy!
????
????
It’s not the fat that’s fattening, it’s the carbs… I can’t do low fat dairy- makes me feel like I’m settling. But that breakfast! I’ve been rushing around and haven’t eaten yet. I’m thinking a big plate of that followed by a pasta coma sounds blissful right now.
I just make sure I get enough protein.
Carbs, fat I don’t worry about, TOO many calories is what kills.
I like the taste and texture of 0% fat Greek yogurt.
????
Huh. I don’t generally do low-fat except with dairy. I can’t tell much of a difference between reg and low-fat sour cream, cottage cheese, etc. That said, I really can tell the difference between whole milk and low-fat milk lattes, but that’s a drink that’s all about the milk.
In agreement with you, Bear, about going all-out with Italian food, which is why I don’t cook it very often 😉
“Asking is not receiving” lol!!
????
????
Ah I loved that stuff! Lean this way so I can sniff you 🙂
Thanks, pixel !
I thought, maybe I’m too obscure for the room.
????
????
JICKY!!!!
Yay 🙂
TGIF! SOTD is Rive Gauche Pour Homme, haven’t worn it in ages.
Me too! It’s great stuff! Conceptually it occupies a sort of Turin-Sanchez oldies shelf at my place, along with Azzaro Pour Homme, which I wore(sparingly) yesterday, and enjoyed as well.
Honestly not a big fan of fougeres, but I’m attempting to be a good sport in Canoe! 😀
(whispers …. then I can reek havoc later….)
Canoe!!!!!!!! another blast from the past 🙂
Report back on your reeking adventure…I might just join you!
Canoe is so nice! And reminds me of my dad 🙂
Years ago, someone broke a bottle of Canoe at my workplace. It reeked some havac that day.
Dang it! If I’d kept up to date I’d worn my oldest love Jicky.
Instead its vintage Opium eau de toilette, from a full bottle freshly ransacked from an estate, together with partial bottles of the original, tuberosey Chloė and Ivoire de Balmain.
I loved old Chloe.
ditto
Thirdo
Quatro. Those are some nice finds!
Good morning ????
I am checking in from Orlando where I have been going full speed from sun up til late evening since Sunday. Today I am sleeping in and I know I will be wearing Givenchy III when I get dressed in a little while.
You can do it! Stay strong. You smell fantastic!
Hope you’re enjoying our gorgeous weather!
Oh, I hope you have a chance to visit Guerlain at Epcot. Have fun!
Thank you ! The weather has been perfect .
I visited Guerlain , Givenchy and Christian Dior. I bought bottle of Givenchy III. I really do love this fragrance.
SOTD is Mugler Fougere Furieuse. Yesterday I received the bottle of Tom Ford F***ing Fabulous and was pleasantly surprised. It was much lighter and airier than I expected; Very green, with iris and leather. There is something familiar about it but I can’t think of what it reminded me of. Nothing I already own.
Well now that seems like something I need. 😉
Hmm. Sounds a whole lot more tempting than the official note list….
Twins!
Huh. I imagined a sweet, powdery iris thing. Is it like LL Iris 39 or Heuere Exquise or that ilk?
I haven’t smelled either of those! It is definitely NOT sweet and leans masculine in my opinion.
Invasion Barbare!
One of our kitties broke a sample of this in my person’s study, so I will just enter the room for my fougere fix! I love it as an ambient scent. You smell great.
Thanks, I really like it and especially because I got a decant of it in my first swap years ago.
No fougere for me today, but I do enjoy this category.
SOTD: Dior Feve
Happy Friday!
PS. NYers we’re back into summer weather! 71 yesterday!
you smell wonderful!
I’m in Chanel Boy, which is the closest thing I have to a fougere! I’ve only tried it a couple times and am still not really sure how I feel about it. It’s always fun to try something new though (one of the reasons I enjoy the community project!)
Happy Friday!
Omg twin! 😀 Happy Friday!
Triplets…I am so glad it’s Friday.
This one really grew on me; it’s now on my Buy list
I love LOVE love it on my H. I want him to have a bottle and wear it all the time, but he does not have the same passion for it, alas.
I did not get mine to try it! I will need to do that…!
TGIF and TG”I Have” Boy Chanel sample!
Very happy I got something for today’s challenge! Happy Friday everybody 🙂
Perfect! You have a great Friday too.
I’m wearing Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, which is as close as I have to a fougere. I can pretend it has lavender if I squint and listen closely. 🙂
LOL — that works for me!
A bit of Jicky and a small spritz of CK Be. I see reeking havoc in my future this afternoon.
Almost twins! I don’t have CK be
SJP Covet- Fougere-ish. So weird yet I adore it.
Waving to you!
I Don’t Do fougeres, though I often love smelling them on other people. Sampling Amouage Figment Woman (too soon to know how I feel about it yet).
My dad wore Old Spice for years — spices and benzoin, yummy. It used to be just gorgeous.
I believe you referenced the Twin Peaks perfumes the other day in the comments.
How do you like them please?
I don’t think that was me. (At least, I’m not aware of Twin Peaks fragrances, so I’m pretty sure that wasn’t me.)
As an aside, I am underimpressed by Figment Woman.
Sorry, must have misattributed the comment.
I really disliked Figment woman, the men’s version was only slightly less offensive. Not sure what they were going for with these two.
Old Spice is ABSOLUTELY an oriental.
I’m commando today because my cold/flu/bubonic plague has taken up residence in my nose and I can’t smell a blessed thing. I’m conjuring up the scent of vintage Tabac Original, though.
Hope you feel better soon!
I hope you can evict the plague soon.
Get well soon!
My sympathies to you. I am also lying next to the vaporizer wafting Vicks Vap-o-Rub and praying for a speedy deliverance.
Not a fougere fan and the only thing I have in the house is my husband’s Fougere Classique aftershave from some little artisanal outfit. I don’t like that one either so not sure why I bought it for him, lol. And when he uses, he out-sillages me! He said he’d wear extra on my behalf today. Also thought about LL Mousse de Chene which smells more like a fougere oriental than a chypre but it’s a bit much for work. So…
I’m in a few spritzes of SL Clair de Musc.
Thank Mr. Elisa P for us 🙂
Ha! Will do. Nice to have a project proxy ????
Well, Jicky seems to be a choice for many of us. I’m wearing the edt and enjoying it. I am coming to the conclusion that Guerlain is one of my favorite fragrance houses. Other than Shalimar, I haven’t tried one Guerlain that I haven’t loved. I like most of the AAs that I own. I even liked my sample of LPRN. Once I finish my decant, a full bottle of Jicky is in my future.
Twins!
Guerlain is one of my favorite house as well. AG has turned into another fav of mine but I have more Guerlain and Chanel then any other house. I do love Shalimar in all its flankers and forms. One I want to try is VdN. If you like LPRN you should try Black Perfecto
Happy FriYAY!!!!!!! What a brutally long week this time around!
I have to admit, after all these years on NST, I somehow never heard of a fougère. To make things worse, my brain was seeing and translating “fromage”, which made me wonder who enjoys cheese scents? HA HA HA
So after struggling to make sense of it all, I cheated and copied Robin’s earlier post this week, and went with SJP Covet. Enjoying it greatly! Tonight I’ll slather on some Old Spice, now that I understand the category a bit more! 🙂
Joining you and MMKinPA in Covet, with a bottom layer of Stash. No brain cells were sacrificed in the making of this combination. 🙂
Adore the oldies mentioned here: Old Spice, Canoe, Aramis/Tuscany for Men…
All EXCELLENT scents!! Mmmmmmmm
My hubby just bought a bottle of Pinaud’s Jamaician Bay Rum, after seeing it on Hogan’s Heroes (TV show from the 1960-70’s). It’s FABULOUS!!!!!!!! The hubs smells righteous!!!! 🙂
Ha! Fun! Is it still being produced or did he get a vintage bottle?
It’s still being produced….he bought for $7 bucks.
Amazon has EVERYTHING….LOL
https://www.amazon.com/Clubman-Virgin-Island-Body-Ounce/dp/B000CEQZZS/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1509736483&sr=8-3&keywords=bay+rum+aftershave
I loved Hogan’s Heroes. 🙂
Wearing Minotaure, cribbed from Elisa earlier this week. I love it. Happy fougere day everyone!
Happy Friday Everyone!
Yay! My Astros are the World Series champs! Wish my school district was one of the ines that got off for the parade. Oh well….
My SOTD is Versace Bright Crystal Absolute.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Yay for the Astros indeed! I considered going to the parade but am afraid it’ll be such a madhouse downtown, I think I’ll just stay home and watch it on TV (plus it’s supposed to be another record hot day).
How does it compare to the regular Bright Crystal?
I was planning to wear Jicky today, but the temperature is in the 80s again, so I went with Escentric 2. This is my no-brainer warm weather scent.
Same with me – it’s warm here in Virginia so I was afraid the civet in Jicky would be too much for the office.
Have you tried the new number 4? I think it’s a great citrus and I am not even a citrus fan.
I have tried it – I loved 85% of it, but there’s a period of about 45 minutes when it smells exactly like partially chewed lemon skittles on my skin. I tried it three different times and the skittles note always showed up. I gave the rest of my sample to my friend, and it smells incredible on her.
Stole a few sprays of a very pretty fougere from my boys this morning – Caron 3rd Man.
Took the easy path with Boy today.
I can handle blended lavender like that in Boy but strong/intense lavender and I are not friends.
Also as I was rooting through my Chanel samples I was sorely tempted by Sycamore EDT. Sigh. It was not to be.
Do you not like the EDP?
Haven’t tried the EDP.
How does it compare if you’ve tried it please?
I think it’s the rare one that is just as good in the edp as it is in the edt. It also lasts much longer than the edt does 🙂
Boy is very old fashioned to me, like a more aldehyde pumped version of Jicky.
I don’t always get visuals from perfumes, but with Boy I do. It makes me think of a shiny jet black stone that’s been smoothed and polished over centuries with nary a bump or sharp edge.
I’m in Commodity Book today, which Frangrantica says is an oriental fougere. Glad I found something to participate with.
Yay Friday, I need it bad!
Same here — another week I am not sorry to see go.
I’m not sure if I have any fougeres in the cabinet, so I’m going with what struck my fancy this morning – PG Praliné de Santal.
The only fougere I have is Penhaligon’s Sartorial, so that’s what I’m wearing today.
SOTD is A Wing And A Prayer ‘Skydancer’. Fragrantica claims this is a fougere, I disagree, but who am I to argue, especially when I have hardly anything in this category anyway?
The sky is dancing with rain here, which is fabulous; hope it will put out what remains of our wildfires!
I hope you got a good (but not excessive) dousing.
Good Morning guys!
1) Dark, chilly and damp this am- welcome to Portland for the next few months. Although at sunrise at 8-ish the mist rose from the ground and the leaves caught some of the light. Beautiful.
2) SOTD is Elixir de Merveilles (from a sample made earlier this year). Classified as a Oriental Fougere (who knew? I didn’t) this is both warming and refreshing. Perfect, I think, for a chilly day or night and I can totes see this on a sexy guy or a sexy lady.
you smell great!
Thanks! 🙂
I don’t own a single fougere, but Fragrantica calls Un Crime Exotique an “Aromatic spicy” scent. Notes of cinnamon, ginger, anise, vanilla, woods…This is one of the first scents I bought when I realized not every perfume is sold in department stores. It’s wonderful on a rainy morning.
Ha! Yeah, the first thing I bought with that same revelation was Molecule 01.
SOTD is Fendi vintage extrait layered over Coco Chanel lotion. Happy Friday! 🙂
You have got to be the best smelling person, EVER!
I sure try! But I’m in good company! 😉
YUM!
And following Bear’s lead – quadruple strength coffee today. I’m pooped!
Perhaps I’ll have a workout today too.
Rock on, SmokeyToes !!
😀
Bear, you inspired me to run three miles at lunch today!
🙂
Excellent !!!
😀
Fendi vintage extrait?! I can’t even imagine how swoon-worthy that must be…
Kpaint, Vintage extrait is very rich and spicy, not as resinous as Opium, it leans more animalic on me. This was love at first sniff, back in 1986. I saved my tips to get this one!
If you can find it, Fendi Uomo (the original) is gorgeous. I found a bottle on flea bay for the hubby and it is sexy stuff.
Now let’s see if I can get the hubby to take me out to dinner tonight! 😉
Was going to wear Boy or Jicky but felt like something cozier. I have to take advantage of the cooler mornings here in SoCal while I can!
Continuing my Scent Bar sample usage. I was looking for the sample of Biblioteca de Babel because I was in the mood for a gingersnap, but didn’t see it. I compromised with Nasomatto Baraonda.
“Baraonda smells like the pleasures of fall, painted with a light hand. A tumbler of whiskey held up to catch the glow from an open fire. Delicate little glass bowls holding red berries, quince, and apples baked slowly until they fall apart. An old book, open on the lap, filling the air with the dry, papery scent of lignin. A hint of caramelized wood resin dancing around the edges of the room but never closing in.”
It is nice and cool this morning, isn’t it?
Of course I got my car washed yesterday and got caught in drizzle before I made it home.
Sycamore for me today because I want to wear it.
murphy’s law. 🙁
that’s another perfect choice! you smell wonderful.
How do you like it? I think I have a sample somewhere but I have not used it yet
I think it’s so cozy. Fairly linear, but I don’t care. haha
I actually tried this one at Fumerie. It’s rather cozy & pretty, isn’t it?
Yes! 😀
Just tried Biblioteca the other day, I liked it. Baraonds is still in the untested sample pile.
Wow, Baraonda sounds fascinating. Someday I would like to buy a Nasomatto, as much for their gorgeous bottles as for their scents 🙂
Wearing Thierry Mugler Fougere Furieuse. I think it’s pretty barborshoppy, not really my thing. I bought my son Drakkar Essence, which is a fougere, and smells nothing like Drakkar Noir. Have a great weekend everyone!
You too!
I’m in good old Jicky EDT. The weather in Seattle had turned from the 60s earlier in the week to the low 40s today (30s this morning!). I’m not a fan, but at least it’s a perfect day for Jicky.
I’m a bit north of you where it *just* broke 40. WINTER! is upon us. Sheesh. My skin is not happy, btw.
Yes, I just walked to get lunch in the SNOW! It looks pretty from my office window, but it isn’t fun to actually be out in.
Oof! Snow! Sorry.
What!!! That’s crazy. I’ve been kind of whiny because I need to wear a jacket (highs in the 60s down here in the Bay Area), but snow!!!!!!!
I am in House of Cherry Bomb Tuberose Tobacco Cognac. Very un-fougere like for me.
That sounds either wonderful or unbearable.
I’m sorry to be a poor community member, but I just didn’t want Idyllwild today, which is my only fougere (that I know about, anyway). So I’m in SSS Jour Ensoleille, to remind me of the warmth that has just fled the air. There are rumors that it will rain tomorrow (I’m in the Bay Area, so that’s serious), so I need memories of a sunny day to keep me buoyed 🙂
I hear some people get animalics out of this one; all I get is gorgeous white flowers with the slightest touch of dirt underfoot. A fragrant, sun-drenched, well-manicured garden. Do you get animalics?
No, I get citrus and orange blossom and oakmoss and woods…that is one of my top ten of all time fragrances…first time I smelled it , really touched a visceral nerve…for some reason I like it in the spring…..
Huh, I got no citrus at all. Interesting.
I don’t know that I’d call it animalic, but the florals did smell like they were on the verge of turning, over ripe. But in a good way. Prior to trying that, I didn’t really like white florals, but this one smelled golden and earthy. Now I like the “ladies who lunch” ones too, but the SSS was my gateway.
Haha 🙂 That’s a good description of most BWFs. I kind of went the other way–before falling down the rabbit hole, I found a light application of BWFs to be pleasant (and more than that to be horrifically cloying, ahhhhh, get away from me). Now that I know how much more one can do with scent, I’ve wholly abandoned that category, and only especially lovely ones like JE can pull me back.
JE is one of my absolute favorite perfumes as well. I find it indolic which I suppose overlaps with animalic.
I actually wore JE to work yesterday and one of my colleagues noted (quite politely) that my perfume was nice but “very strong”. I should have known better – JE is not exactly an office scent!
Heh, I think all the SSSs are quite strong 🙂 They are all parfum strength, right? But I am not often in close quarters with other people in my job, so they are, for the most part, office scents for me!
yes they are all perfumes so one or two sprays would do it for most folks.
Well, that clears something up for me. I found it (and the handful of other SSSes I’ve tried) very quiet, and underwhelming. Must be anosmia of some sort.
I do get a sort of dirty, furry warmth to it. It is borderline Ho Panties on me (it’s the jasmine. it’s always the jasmine) but golden and glowy.
Ok, Ho Panties is the best descriptor ever. (Eww.)
Yep, I get the borderline Ho Panties that have been stolen by a dirty, furry animal and brought out to the untended area of the garden and dragged into its burrow. I’m not sure if the animal is still alive in there or not, or maybe the recent rain is creating that slightly rotting acrid mud smell.
In a good way. 😉
Ho panties for me was APLS and Salome…but then I retried APLS in the summer and it was all amber and resins and honey….
I’m a rebel doing my incense thing.
Wearing CdG Kyoto today. Thanks to Perfumelover for the reminder.
You smell super gorgeous! Enjoy Kyoto.
I gave up on fougères and went with Feu Secret. I think I smell like a spent fire that included some green grasses.
You smell fantastic. I really would love to have a bottle of that one.
I’m wearing Caron Pour in Homme, cosy vanilla lavender.
After reading so many positive comments on this one, I’m dying to try it!
Do, it’s lovely! (Or it was, don’t know what the new is like)
I’ve been wearing it as my mainstay for the past three years or so, and certainly find it lovely. The lavender note is transportive, wonderful soothing and natural, and the vanilla both sensual and a touch salty. A toasted tonka bean, rich amber and somewhat skin-like musk round things out. I’ve heard good things about the vintage, but this is one of those compositions that gives me so much joy in its current form that I really do not feel the need to hunt up an older bottle.
Right, then don’t — stick with what you already love!
The best lavender!
Blenheim Bouquet today! It is the closest thing I have to a fougere. I find the herby citrus mix perfect to wear while running. Very refreshing while sweating!????
Nice one. You smell good!
Oh, I love that one. You smell great!
I am not a fougere fan, but I started out this morning in the last of my Ineke Field Notes. That’s fougere adjacent, right? Then I switched over to SSS Champagne de Bois!
IMO you can’t go wrong with Champagne de Bois!!
Have been out of the loop and couldn’t remember what today’s theme was. But I was craving something rich, heavy and spicy – and am not quite there in Mugler Oriental Express.
Spent the morning working out my Sephora order, which always creates some level of anxiety for me (what if I forget something?!?) I finally settled on what I wanted and found I’d entered a $50 GC into my online account that I’d completely forgotten about (and would have forgotten about had I not already entered it) so that was a nice surprise. I ended up with lots of makeup, which I haven’t bought (for fun, anyway) in ages. It’s possible that it’s been a couple of years since I bought a lipstick, which as a former makeup junkie is amazing to me.
I didn’t buy any perfume except the Berdoues coffret and a bottle of Platinum Egoiste for my H. Did I miss any scented fun? I may place a 2nd order, so do chime in if there’s something I shouldn’t be missing out on…
I ordered some Hourglass face powders, Urban Decay lipstick, and Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa. I would have ordered Hermes Twilly but all they offer is the 30ml size and I like big bottles. Guess I will get that at Nordies when I get some Notes accumulated.
And I wanted the 30mL and Nordies did not have any. I got a really cute mini of it and of one of the BVs with my purchase so I am not complaining.
Report back on your thoughts of Berdoues (even if you hate em!)
I placed my order very early this morning, too. Mostly hair stuff and screen wipes, but added the small bottle of Fat Electrician and a travel spray of Clementine California.
I won’t be rouge next year, and I’m okay with that. My attention has turned to other things….????
I’m eating my Saturday morning breakfast in the last traces of last night’s Memoir. I’m not a fan of fougeres, as far as I know, I’m sure there are some out there for me!
Mm, I love Memoir, you smell great!
No perfume for me today, the lungs and nose can’t handle it. I will enjoy all of your lovely scents vicariously.
I’m in the same boat. Did manage a teensy spritz of Chergui, but a fougere was out of the question.
I hope that both of you are feeling better soon! Sounds like you have something nasty.
Hope you feel better soon!
Late to the party today! Thanks to a comment that Bear made earlier this week, my choice today was easy. SOTD = Jicky EdT, from the sample stash. And I did smell lavender in it today, since I paid attention. Not for very long on me, though. It was gone after an hour at most.
Jicky made a good showing this week 🙂
I actually went commando for most of the day, because I meant to look up fougeres to see if I had one, and forgot.
Anyway I trawled through Fragrantica tonight and other than being supremely irritated at how slowly the wretched page loads for that view (much worse than searching by note) I recognised 3 or 4 things I have tried. Most of the bottles seemed to be big name brands that I don’t trust to be any good. The only one I remember trying and liking a lot was Loewe “Esencia pour homme”, plus I have Caron “pour un homme” but wasn’t in the mood for it.
SOTE was Tom Ford “White Suede”, which I was about to dismiss as the epitome of pointlessness, but on looking it up it’s a white musk based scent and I am musk anosmic. So YMM definitely V.
TOMK is feeling very fed up with suspected tendonitis in one knee. We hobbled up the road for a curry and argued happily about how we’re going to organise the layout of the new apartment, assuming we get it. Have a good weekend y’all! :^)
I would be happier not smelling the musk in White Suede!
ha ha! and I rather liked the musk in White Suede 😉
Hey, NST, a happy Fougère Friday to ya! I wore my only other fougère (Amouage Opus II) yesterday, and today I’m participating in Jicky.
How’s it goin’ with y’all? I’ve been bad about checking in lately. I missed you lovely peeps. Me, I stubbed the heck out of my middle toe last week and clearly broke it. (I am a world-class klutz, after all.) It wasn’t bad enough to warrant an ER visit, so I’ve just had it ‘buddy taped’ since then and have been limping around so as to let it heal up. It’s really OK, but is sure does look gross. ????????
Have yourselves a fantastic weekend!
Ouch ouch ouch. You broke your toe and you can fix it almost self-service? I shouldn’t be surprised as I had a hairline fracture of an ankle bone when I was a freshman in college and the ER would not treat me until one of my parents gave consent since I was not yet 18. Once consent was given and x-rays showed the hairline fracture, there was nothing they could do about it except to tell me to not put pressure on it (their way of saying don’t walk on it which was hard because I did not even get crutches). Anyway, that ankle knows when rain is on its way.
Her’s hoping it heals well and quickly!
Oh dear, your poor ankle! (Thank goodness it wasn’t worse since you had to wait! Oof!) I’m in a similar boat as far as treating this. It wasn’t a compound fracture, and it wasn’t displaced at all so far as I could tell, so according to the interwebs, there was no need to have it X-rayed or reset. The only thing to do is keep it taped and stay off it until it heals. Guess who’s gonna be wearing flip flops for Thanksgiving!?????
I’m having minor foot surgery in less than two weeks. I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Crocs, and considering it an excellent excuse for not cooking, or even helping with the dishes.
Oh, hope it heals very quickly, that is painful!
Thank you! Mercifully, the throbbing/pain was pretty much gone the next day, and it seems to be mending well.
Glad to hear it!
SOTD = Mona di Orio Violette Fumee
I almost never see this as anyone’s SOTD, including mine. I have a FB in a gorgeous presentation box which I bought at MinNY for a good discount. Anyway, this is an Oriental Fougere according to Fragrantica. That said, I actually don’t smell the lavender. I’m thinking that the cashmeran drowned out the lavender by giving off a leather-like smell.
Hey, I wasn’t done with my comments and my display kept bumping me out of the edit window! Anyway, I got 8 hours out of 4 sprays, not bad at all!
Work continues to be very challenging but I can rest somewhat easy as I completed a controversial segment of strategy work without too much fuss, corralled some wayward team members and communicated potentially contentious news.
Funny, I was just thinking about your SOTD. When I sampled it, I couldn’t smell a thing. Must be anosmic. Anyway, I imagine it’s a beautiful scent but I guess that I’ll never know.
Congrats on your work achievements. Must feel very satisfying!
Thanks. I should say rest somewhat easy this weekend because it’s back to the grind next week. To top it off, I have jury duty on Nov. 9 but won’t know if I actually have to report in. I think I have to judging by my low group and low juror number.
I forgot to add that I will only know after 5pm on Wed if I have to actually show up on Thurs.
I love Violette Fumee but only have a decant, so I tend to wear it sparingly.
Hmm, that’s my experience with Jicky, today and whenever I wear it. I don’t smell distinctive lavender and get more of the animalic components. I swear, my skin gives basenotes a bullhorn!
Well done on navigating challenging situations at work—enjoy your weekend!
I really don’t see any mention of any Mono di Orio fragrances..which for me is just as well as I have never tried any from this line and as soon as someone rants about something it instantaneously creates a lemming for me!
Wearing Bogue MEM which I shamelessly copied from Tiffany. The dry down is quite pretty but I did not like the opening. I’ve been so busy at work lately that I didn’t notice the opening enough to be annoyed. So I had that working for me.
Yay for MEM, it does have a very beautiful base.
Eloge du Traitre by Etat Libre d’Orange…. pretty sure it’s my only fougere. Happy weekend!
And that is one of the only ELDO scents I have not tried!
I’ve been wearing Old Spice (the aftershave and the EDP-like ‘cologne’ formulation, both vintage) a lot this Autumn and they are certainly oriental to me… My son wears vintage Opium (for women) and there is, to my nose anyway, so significant overlap (I think I read somewhere that Jean Claude Ellena suggested layering them to butch up Opium a bit.)
Anyway, this morning I wore Yatagan, which I have read bears some resemblance to Eloge du Traitre… Leffingwell lists Yatagan as a woody Chypre, but I swear there’s a fougere accord in there somewhere. Anyway, bedtime here now, so after I get out of the bath it will be my on-again, off-again signature, good old Caron Pour un Homme… I know some say its a soliflore, but given the central role coumarin plays in brokering the relationship between lavender and vanilla, I always feel it deserves its fougere designation. No matter how you think of it, it is wonderful.
Late to the party, but trying to play along today. I’ve been wearing Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche. It’s not listed as a fougere (that I can see anywhere) but it sure smells darned herbaceous on me. I’m calling it a fougere anyway. Happy Friday to all!
And I am not going to argue with you 😉
I started out the day in Idyllwild, and am ending it in Noir Exquis. NE is interesting and lovely. I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday night!
I am still waiting for Noir Exquis to come in 15 ml! (not holding my breath)
SotD = MEM, day 3
MEM is beautiful. All I need is a dab on each wrist to sniff happily all day. The sample vial will last a long time.
Looking forward to reading everyone’s comments today (I’m team Old Spice), and seeing the back end of this very long Friday.
wow, MEM is turning into your SS 🙂
Late as usual, but participating! I had to look on Fragrantica to see what I might have in the way of a sample, and from my two choices, I went with Aqaba Men II. It opened with that classic “men’s cologne” thing that I associate, probably wrongly, with fougeres, and I immediately thought, “Not for me.” Twenty minutes later, though, those top notes were gone, and there was a spicy, herbal, sweet but not cloying perfume. (That’ll teach me to judge a perfume by its top notes.) The card lists the notes as: green notes, peppercorns, thyme, and sandalwood. Somehow those things combined to give me the impression of spiced, slightly green orange. It was really, really nice, and I started wondering if it might end up on my to-buy list. An hour later it got very quiet, and a couple hours after that, it was gone. Too fleeting for my tastes, but fun while it lasted. I really do enjoy the Friday Community Projects, and it’s good to have a reason to push myself to try things that aren’t immediately appealing to me.
