Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Pulled Pork Day, and UN Spanish Language Day. And a quick PSA: the splitmeet is coming up on Saturday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I put on a dab of Madly Kenzo (by Aurélien Guichard) to see if I would like it any better than I did when I reviewed it. Nope. This one is not going to grow on me.
Reminder: on 10/13, wear a fragrance by Aurélien Guichard or Jean Guichard.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD Parfum 06130 Yuzu Rouge Eau de Toilette
Tea Yuzu Temple
Lippy, lipstick ????
I like that one!
Me too, its very nice
I am sampling Robert Piguet Blossom by Aurélien Guichard. It’s a nice orange blossom/neroli scent, fresh and citrussy, with juicy and tangy orange. It is similar to classical neroli colognes, but there is no lavender and other bitter aromatic herbs. The longevity is also cologne-like: I sprayed it around three hours ago, half an hour ago it was a skin scent, now I can barely smell it. Time to re-apply. It’s a pretty good refreshing fragrance for a hot weather.
I’ve been reading the news on fires in California just now. This is scary. I hope all Californian NST-ers are safe.
That sounds pretty and like I don’t need it (?)
I think you are right on both counts: it’s pretty, but you probably do not need it. It’s nice, pleasant but not outstanding. The best part for me is that mouthwatering citrus note – it made me crave a glass of orange or mandarin juice. The ubiquitous white musk is there, though I think the creator keeps it in check most of the time. My expectations were low, and this is probably why I am quite enjoying today (and also because it’s a grey day, and this scent is so sunny and cheerful). I do not think I’d pay for it – I have too many fragrances to buy something which is just pleasant and nice – but if a decant suddenly fell from the sky, I’d use it.
Good to know, thanks. So far modern Piguet just doesn’t suit me. I like Bandit & Fracas and that’s it.
In Gucci Guilty (Aureliene Guichard). I had to unbury the bottle from the back of my cabinet. I do not wear it much. It is nice for the dark, cool, rainy day we are having. But I think it suits much better in colder weather.
Aurelien.
I think Guilty line is pretty well done. The Intense is especially nice.
I have never tried the Intense, but I agree with you that the Guilty line in general is very nice.
I was pleasantly surprised when I tried a bit of Guilty Black.
How does it compare to Guilty?
I haven’t done a side by side of those two, but from what I remember about Guilty Black, it had less florals and more patchouli than the original Guilty. It came off as a well made fruitchouli to me. YMMV, of course.
Thank you.
Wearing Papillion Tobacco Rose. The mossy note matches the grey, cool rainy morning we’re having. I find this perfume a bit wistful.
I was just told by the assistant in my office that I have 11 vacation days I need to use before 12/15 or I’ll lose them. 11! I’m not sure how that happened. I better get crackin’… Looking forward to some short work weeks ????
That’s a lot of vacation days! Enjoy the short weeks!
I know! Thanks! I will ????
If you took off every Friday between now and Dec 15, that would take up 10 of your vacation days!
True! I may take a full week in November though. Decisions, decisions…
Wow, that’s a nice surprise!
I know! I still feel like there’s a miscalculation somewhere.
Don’t question it, just go with it!!! 😀
You smell great!
Thanks!
That is the best kind of problem to have! Tobacco Rose is one of my new and unexpected favorites. And it has amazing longevity. You smell lovely.
Isn’t it lovely? It does last on me too, without also being a powerhouse.
Oh! those available days are so soooo nice. If it were my case I would prefer to be away Mondays and Fridays which are the toughest days for me. Enjoy them in any way you use them!!!
A couple of 4 day weekends are what I’m thinking, too. Thank you! Just not being at work is enough to make me happy!
What a bonus!
Good to get some good news these days.
I love all the Papillon fragrances and have all five of them. Each one is wonderful in its own way. However, today I’m wearing Parfum Empire’s Musc Tonkin.
She does nice work even if all aren’t quite to my taste. And nothing redundant in the collection. She seems like she puts a lot of thought and time into her perfumes. I tried Dryad for the 1st time. I need to get a sample soon but I liked it a lot.
Dryad is really a good fragrance.
I’m wearing Dryad today from a sample — loving it! Must wangle FB somehow …
Nice stash of vacation days!
Good night everybody! (Enjoying my last few nights here in Guam to the fullest! It’s only 30mins away till Friday here)
SOTD: Il Profvmo’s Caramella D`Amore
Notes read very delicious with Popcorn, Pistachio and Cotton Candy. But on my skin it’s just a very gentle powdered sugar dusted pink floral. I would love for it to smell more edible or nutty..
What fun, enjoy the last of your stay!
Today I’m wearing Elixir des Merveilles and it’s great fun trying to get the differences from yesterday’s Parfum.
I love them all, except for the newest blue one.
And do you know if Eau Claire was discontinued? It’s not listed on Hermes site and none of the department stores have it at the moment…
It would be shameful if it’s true.
Now I have to seriously consider adding it to my collection of Merveilles as well.
I bought a bottle of Eau Claire earlier this year when I saw it wasn’t available on any other sites. Now I have a seasonal wardrobe of the original, Eau Claire, and L’Ambre. It’s fun to layer them, too!
Never tried the Elixir or the Parfum, but I was not a fan of the blue one either.
I should have said, I bought it on FragranceNet when I couldn’t find it anywhere else.
Yes, I see it in stock at some on-line shops, but none of the official places have it.
I have to act quick, I’m afraid, until it’s gone or costs a fortune.
Never tried to layer them on purpose, but I think they are really a great option for someone who wants to have a signature scent with just some little adjustments regarding the mood and the weather.
Eau in the morning, Parfum or Elixir in the evening, Ambre the next day…and your scarves, sweaters and coats smell of the same basenotes without interfering with one another.
Perfect!
You smell wonderful! I found a bottle of Eau Claire on ebay after reading about it on NST.
Thank you!
Do you mean after reading the review or the news that it was discontinued?
Hermes always removes things from the website when they are out of stock — it does not necessarily mean it is discontinued (Hiris disappears and reappears from time to time, for instance.) But it could be, of course!
SOTD is TF Fleur de Chine, from a decant provided by a very lovely NSTer. I keep hoping I’ll stop loving it so much (because cha-ching) … but no. Still total adoration. Oh well, maybe I’ll win the lottery or something. 🙂
You smell lovely!
Thank you, TTBC!
The bad news…fleur de chine is no more
The good news…no worry about spending the money!
It is discounted, apsara is right. But if you want to buy some before it’s gone, there’s a seller on FB who offers decants much more affordable than a bottle price. Contact me through About on my sight if you want a link to the group/page (I’m not affiliated – just love FdC).
Thank you, Undina – such a kind offer, especially since it would mean less available for you! But you and apsara inspired me to do one last internet search, and I stumbled across a discounter with the smaller-sized FB at a price that was more in line with my budget (sometimes timing is everything). And since I got some health-related news this morning that could have been bad but was very good instead, I decided to celebrate. The bottle will be here in a week!
Yay! It is a good news (both health-related and on a bottle front). Enjoy it!
Cuir de Russie EDT for me today!
You smell great!
Mmmm nice!
lovely fall scent
It’s a good one, you smell great!
Wonderful!
My daughter would love that T-shirt. She loves style and fashion. Sotd is No.19, like Christalle, I think I will be enjoying it a lot in the cooler weather.
You smell wonderful. I should retry Cristalle, it was a little murky -like pond water- in the heat of summer.
Definitely retry it when it’s cooler, it reminds me of crisp snow.
Ooh, nice tip! Maybe it will last more than half an hour in cooler weather too!
Do you remember the Custo Barcelona shirts that were so popular in the 90s/00s? This shirt immediately reminded me of those.
What’s old is new again!(well, except for me, lol)
I love Cristalle in the cooler weather
Me too!
It was your comment that made me think to retry in the cooler temps!
I usually wear Cristalle in spring, but it’s a neat idea to try it in winter!
After all, snow is crystal. They should be a perfect match! =)
thats what I am say’n
Maybe Christalle will help me at least tolerate snow? Nah….. Lol
Most of the “spring-summer” Chanel Exclusifs smell wonderful on me in cold weather also.
You smell amazing. I sprayed myself with No. 19 with abandon one day at a department store in Korea (I had not taken my decant with me). It was wonderful!
Good morning Y’all….
I’m smelling sweet as sugar in Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte. One of the few scents from BBW that I actually crave every year…..
I like that one..there was another one I really like…the name escapes me …a limited edition with butterscotch as one of the notes but it smells like sweet tobacco to me….
SOTD L’Eau d’Hiver. Drinking a triple shot Americano and eating a walnut oatmeal cookie (breakfast for champions!) while wearing a gigantic grey cashmere scarf. Sigh it almost feels like winter here.
I really envy your scarf! 🙂
Ha, thanks! I got it at a steal during a summer sale 😀
That all sounds like perfection!
I can’t help but feel melancholy at the prospect of seemingly never ending grey cold days, but the eating-cookie-enveloped-in-scarf was very nice 😉
That sounds like a wonderful morning! Very jealous.
Breakfast of champions INDEED! 🙂
What a wonderful morning!
Pulled pork day! I feel like I should wear something smoky in honor of that, but smoke is one of those scents I like in real life but not in perfume. Instead I’m wearing Bvlgari Black whilst watching my house get painted and questioning my color choices.
Bvlgari Black is sooooooo good!!
Lush The Voice of Reason!
Scent twins!
I hope the color will look better once done.
Twins! Or triplets, I should say seeing Undina above! We all smell super great!
Pulled pork day! I didn’t know that was a thing… I cooked two pork tenderloins in my slow-cooker the other day and we’ve been eating pulled pork for dinner the past two nights! Yummy.
SOTD is a re-sample of reorchestrated Baghari. It’s nice. None of the notes lists I’ve seen mention incense, but it is definitely here along with aldehydes and some lovely florals. The whole thing reminds me quite a bit of Andy Tauer’s work for Tableau de Parfums Miriam (which I have a bottle of, so I doubt I’d need any Baghari).
(I once blind-bought in on a split of vintage Baghari eau de cologne. When the split portion arrived, I spritzed it on and went straight to the grocery store. By the time I got to the checkout, it was going through a VERY animalic phase, and the poor cashier was trying to give me my change without leaning close to me. Oy. I never wore the thing again.)
I slow-roasted a pork shoulder this weekend (first time!) and have been having pulled pork sandwiches, tacos and Cubanos (favourite) all week too.
We did exactly that a weekend ago as well for the first time. Made a pulled pork just for Cuban sandwiches. Then used the leftover pork for fried rice. So good.
I am wearing the absolute dregs of a mini of LouLou that I’ve had for several years. I will say that I hardly ever wore it, so maybe the juice evaporated. Certainly the few drops left were more than enough to have quite a bit of sillage.
Sitting at my desk and contemplating the new Mod Cat Maze I have recently installed on the wall. Sans cats. I am ever optimistic that the furballs will like and utilize this long line of “Will this make you happy and healthy, and keep your interest?” objects. Instead, Otto likes the big sheets of paper that insulate my Amazon packages, and Zoink hopes that I will forget to hide the re-usable plastic grocery bags (she has a weird thing for chewing plastic).
I think I’ll start leaving beef jerky treats on the cat maze shelves.
Wearing Praliné de Santal (thanks, Deva!), and smelling luscious.
I had a full bottle of PdS about six years ago…my dad “borrowed” it and never returned it…you smell good 🙂
Your cat maze sounds wonderful 🙂 Give them time! They have to accidentally discover it first, on their own terms. Or maybe they are just lazy bums.
Otto and Zoink are great names.
I agree – I especially like Zoink. I have a mental picture of the check-in person at your vet looking at you like you’re crazy and asking, “how do you spell that?” 😀
This reminds me of an absolutely hilarious article I read on XOJane, about a trip to the vet with a kitten. Posting here – totally worth it for any cat lovers:
https://www.xojane.com/issues/embarrassing-trip-to-the-veterinarian
Oh. My. God. My husband thinks I’m insane now because I’ve been laughing uncontrollably for the last five minutes, but that was AMAZING. Thank you for sharing!
I love their names. Those are some awesome cat monikers!
Trying to keep cats entertained is quite the task. I hope they enjoy their new toy. And they do have great names ????
My cats’ favirite toy is a bristle miuse in a wand thingy, but they recently list interest in our nightly game until I moved to a different part of the room. I think they just needed a change of scenery!
Got the bristle mouse on a wand over here, too!
I bought some new bowls for my cats’ dry food, and they had the most fun with all the wrapping paper the bowls were wrapped in. They loved it. Does Zoink just chew, or does she actually eat the plastic? My cat Midnight is absolutely addicted to plastic. He lick or chews on any plastic available, and he is constantly either throwing it up, or pooping it out.
Good to know my cats aren’t the only plastic eaters/addicts. One has learned how to open the drawer where I store bubble wrap!
Sadly, she loves to both chew and eat it. She is at the point where she recognizes the sound of crinkling plastic, and will come running whenever I open a package, or put away groceries. I am in constant fear that she will find a bag somewhere when I am not at home, and eat the entire thing. Any ziploc bags on the lower shelves of my pantry bear telltale puncture marks, where she has zipped in while my back is turned in the kitchen, and started contentedly chomping on the corners.
Also love their names. Cats… they’ll deign to enjoy the maze at their own pace. I bought mine a shearling throw, and they ignored it for months. Then it became their favorite luxury. I think they just needed to get their and our smells on it. Maybe add something with a familiar smell to the maze?
I attempted to wear Ormonde Woman, The smoke from a couple of counties away is blowing here so that is all anyone will smell today. Such terrible fires!
It really is a calamity.. I am sorry you have to deal with the fumes and ashes. Can’t be good for one’s respiratory tract.
Oh no, that’s awful.
Such a scary situation. Prayers and hugs for you. Please take care.
Take care and be safe.
Oh u poor thing!
So sorry… 🙁
I am a county or mare away, just smoke and some ashes here. Luckily we are safe.
Please take care!
So sad and scary! I think you smell great in Woman.
Eau de Campagne
Glad you are still enjoying it
You found the perfect home for it as I am now halfway through the bottle…I don’t think my mom will get to smell it at all for I may finish it before I see her 🙂 Carpe diem with this one…and thank you again 🙂
Wearing the Bewitching Yasmine today, anniversary blend coffee, Dior St. Germain lipstick–a pretty neutral rose nude.
Dior lippy for me today too. I’m wearing Sydney, a soft, warm red.
How is the Yasmine?
I think it is nice, although I’ve smelled perfumes that are very similar. Penhaligon’s mentions a coffee accord–although I don’t really get that, I get more of a sweet vanilla with some spices-nothing sharp here. It’s very cozy. I noticed on luckyscent there is a review that says it smells like Mancera Aoud Vanille but not as good. I can’t attest to this because I haven’t smelled the Mancera–but I know what the person is getting at. There are similar perfumes for a better pricepoint. Although–if you’re after the cat bottle and you like a cozy vanilla scent for the colder weather it may be worth it. hahahaha
Thanks so much! A coffee vanilla would maybe appeal more, just because I have enough spicy vanillas already? But will give it a shot eventually.
I love Dior lippies!
I’m wearing Kelly Caleche today – I couldn’t figure out what to wear, so I grabbed it and spritzed. I’m glad I trusted my first impulse, because I smell lovely.
Yes, you do!
Kelly Caleche is wonderful. I own EdT but I also want it in parfum!
I actually just smelled that one for the first time in Korea at a department store and loved it.
Twins, if you are wearing the Extrait!
Perfume is Safran Troublant, which I’m wearing over a base of Tauer Rose Delight body oil, applied before bed last night. I smell rosy and cozy.
Than combo sounds great! I will try it tonight.
That does sound good! I think I’ll give this a try over Rose Jam perfume.
I’ve done that combo! It’s lovely 🙂
SOTD is Chinatown from an old swap decant. I have a mini of Jungle L’Elephant and the two scents seem very similar, IMHO. Both are great scents but I have a hard time finding appropriate places to wear them. Chinatown is better dabbed. I can’t imagine spraying this one.
How interesting! Chinatown and Jungle L’Elephant smell completely different to me.
Huh. They didn’t smell similar to me either. The Kenzo was a fresh spice bomb on me. Too spicy for me. I liked Chinatown but I also could never dose it to where it wasn’t cloying -also only dabbed it ever and only on very cold days.
Chinatown is a powerhouse. Jungle L’Elephant smelled like vomit to me.
Sampling Cuir Beurre from Soivohle today. It is more soda pop and rubber on me than leather…
This morning I am wearing April Aromatics Calling All Angels. I am in trouble because the small one that came in my sample set is almost empty. Might be something to think of for the splitmeet!
I commented on your post but it somehow showed up several comments below.
I loved when they introduced those small bottles. While they are more expensive per ml, I don’t think I’ll ever go through the full bottle of most of my current perfumes, which will mean, in reality, that I’m paying more per ml used. And perfume stores better in the original bottle than in a decant – that’s why I try to buy brands’ bottles, when those are available in smaller formats. Otherwise – split it is! 🙂
I like this one a lot too. I’ve got a very small sample and even that is lasting me a good amount of time. There’s no way I’d want a FB.
Need to see what other sizes there are.
I’m wearing L’Occitane Pamplemousse Rhubarb and drinking a cup of Guerlain Shalimar tea.
My allergies have been acting up so much lately, I just spritzed my forearms lightly.
Last night I watched Bull Durham, and Susan Sarandon’s character “Annie” had a bottle of Shalimar on her dresser. It must have been a bottle of Shalimar Extract because she dabbed it on from the stopper. She also had other bottles, but I could not tell what they were.
Annie is very much a Shalimar girl, isn’t she?
“Who dresses you? Isn’t this a little extreme for the Carolina League?”
Yes! Very much a Shalimar girl.
I had not seen this movie and years, and forgot how good it was.
“The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom – William Blake.” I love that movie!
I love spotting perfume bottles in movies. On the plane back from Korea I watched Jackie (with Natalie Portman playing Jackie Kennedy) and there was a scene where I noticed Shalimar and Vol de Nuit. There were a few others but those stood out.
I just saw Jackie, too, and really liked it. I’m pretty sure one of the other bottles was Bal a Versailles.
I thought Neruda, the other movie this year by Jackie’s director Pablo Larrain, was quite wonderful. I don’t remember seeing any perfume bottles in that one but the settings were so evocative and detailed that you could almost smell them.
Yes, I noticed the perfumes too! Did not spot Vol de Nuit but definitely Shalimar and Bal a Versailles. I wrote about that here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2017/03/25/fragrance-friday-jackie/. Really enjoyed the movie.
I received samples of both the EDP and EDT of L’Ombre dans l’eau from a generous NSTer in the last swapmeet, so today I am wearnig the EDT and tomorrow will be the EDP. So far, I can’t decide which one i like better! Thoughts?
Can you discuss the differences? I got a bottle of the EDT from the swapmeet, and it smells pretty different from my memory, which suggests that I had smelled the EDP. If memory serves, I like the EDP a bit better, but the EDT is more pleasant when I’m in the mood for something a bit more sweet and sour.
The EDT is sharper, green and refreshing, but I think I prefer the EDP which is rosier. I’ll have to try them both again.
Sharper! That’s exactly the word I’ve been searching for.
In Stash SJP today. This is getting a lot of wear since the temps began to drop here. I must admit, I do enjoy this juice an awful lot.
I also like it and enjoy it a lot. And it is very affordable. You smell great. have you tried the dry oil?
Haven’t tried the oil but would love to. The line isn’t available in retailers here in France. I did something I rarely do these days – a blind buy, because I found a bottle at a fantastic price and the seller shipped it to me.
Stash is gorgeous!
I wore the elixir last night from a decant. It’s so comforting.
I’ve still not tried this! Not sure it’s even available in NYC?
I would have to find it online, I think. She does good scents so I know it’s worth a try.
Stash is great! I didn’t think I would like it so much, but the sprayed touche I had haunted my bedroom for weeks until I bought it!
Wearing a year-round favorite, but probably better in fall, Frapin 1270. Love everything about it.
Thinking it may be time to dig out the amber scents.
1) Am hosting a friend who works in the wine industry in Northern CA this weekend. She lost everything but some clothes and her dog in the fires in Santa Rosa. Will be here to enjoy some rain, stock up on work clothes and supplies and then right back to CA again- it’s harvest time, and although many vineyards are damaged, she will still need to do the surveying and logistical work for this year. I told to stay as long as she wants and needs but she is desperately needed for her work.
2) Am in Cuir de Russie because honestly I need something grounded and lovely. White blouse, grey slacks, mauve lip gloss and a big blowout seems needed on a rainy autumn day.
(1) heartbreaking 🙁 I’m hearing these stories, and worse, again and again.
(2) that sounds perfect, and I wish you could send some of that rain to us!
Terrible, terrible news all around in USA this year with disasters. My friend is just grateful to have her dog, and that is so, so important.
The entire country needs a nice shower of gentle rain and sun, I think!
Yeah, it seems unreal almost. Like something is stirred up in the universe. Some gentle rain, sun, and a spirit cleanse.
Oh wow, that is horrible. I’m glad she got a chance to come up to stay with you and catch her breath. Sending positive thoughts to her and everyone in California.
Your wardrobe and perfume choices sound lovely. I love big hair!
A little glam for a grey day!
I am so sorry about your friend’s situation. I hope she can recover from this tragedy soon.
I’m glad your friend and her dog are safe but, in general, it’s such a nasty situation! Poor people who lost their lives, their animals and their homes 🙁
I’m so sorry. Glad you get to spend time together. And so sad…Santa Rosa is such a wonderful city.
SOTD is Nirvana Rose. This one and Nirvana Bourbon are still my favorites from the line. I tried French Grey and Amethyst at Sephora a couple weeks ago and wasn’t too excited by either, unfortunately.
You are smelling great today.
I’m wearing Jour d’Hermes today, which I received as a generous freebie at the swapmeet. I’ve tried it in stores before and didn’t like it, so I was really only trying it on to be polite (to whom?). As expected, the top notes were awful–caustic and sharp; nasty cleaning products. However, this time, after the first five minutes, it settled into a gorgeous, sweet, greenish gardenia rose.
I checked the notes in JdH about an hour into wearing it, and rose is nowhere to be found. What this tells me is that the incredible levels of smoke in the air are wreaking (and reeking) all kinds of havoc on my nose. We are some 90 miles from the Napa fires, and smoke levels down here are still dangerous. The air is hazy, and while it smells wonderful, the constant scratchiness in my face, throat, and head definitely isn’t wonderful.
I left work early yesterday because I felt dizzy, coughy, and headachey. Today, I’ve come equipped with my inhaler and ibuprofen, but I couldn’t find my mask, sadly 🙁 I felt a little unsafe driving to work this morning because my head feels smoke-addled. Let’s see if I last all day at work today. I mostly just want to go home and curl up with the kittens.
I just had a friend come up for a weekend here from Santa Rosa. She coughed for a bit after getting off the plane due to all the smoke particles. Be careful!
Take care. Hope you feel better soon.
I can’t imagine not being able to get awsy from the smoke smell. Sounds really nightmarish.
I can’t even imagine 🙁
Please take care of yourself.
Not good! Please be careful. So very sorry this is happening to such beautiful country.
Neighbors 🙁 (70 miles away from the fire)
Using saline nasal spray helps a little (at least for a couple of minutes). I was reluctant to take allergy medicine because it makes me drowsy (even the “daytime” ones) and I need to work but it seems that I have to do it now – or I wouldn’t be able to work anyway because of coughing and watery eyes.
Stay safe!! I wasn’t sure if the allergy meds would help because it seems like such a different reaction than most allergies. I may try tonight, though, depending on how difficult it is to go to sleep. Did you end up taking them? How are they working?
Mine are for the cough – it helped a little but I’m ready for a nap (not happening 🙁 ).
Thanks, all, for your kind wishes! I really am fine, though–nothing a few weeks of clean air won’t put back to normal. But I’ll transmit your wishes and my own for those more seriously affected!
Yech! Wildfire smoke totally reeks. Maybe some hard candies or mild cough drops would be handy to soothe your sore throat?
I came to work prepared with half a bag of cough drops today! I’ve also been sucking them at night to fall asleep :-/ But yeah, they are definitely helping. Thanks for the tip 🙂
Take good care of yourself! Kitten snuggling is always the best medicine. (Although antibiotics can be pretty useful…)
Hahaha 🙂 both TOGETHER are most effective.
I’m co-presenting at a workshop for faculty at my university today, so I wanted something that would read as both calming and professional. Copal Azur it is.
Presentations make me nervous, but there’s only supposed to be 3 attendees at this workshop, so the stakes are pretty low.
Best of luck! I also get anxious. when I have to present for work. I find it helps if I don’t have to stand. And then I remind myself that my audience is probably checked out anyway and more inyerested in the snacks I bring, lol.
Oh, good tip on bringing snacks! I’ll have to try that next time. Thank you.
I’m wearing Le Maroc pour Elle this morning. My friend and his family in Santa Rosa have been evacuated and don’t know if their house has been spared or not. I feel terrible for them, not knowing is the worst.
my heart breaks for Nor Cal..
Wishing them the best.
I saw footage on the news this morning. It looked like a bomb exploded. They were showing soot covered burned-out vehicles.
I saw that, too. Very eerie.
Here’s to hoping for the best re: your friend’s house.
SOTD is JHAG Mmmm.. sample. Not offensive, but a little too sweet. Lasting longer than I expected given my sampling experience with the line.
I’m smelling great in Bond No. 9 Silver Factory by Aurelian. I should wear this more often this fall/winter.
Calligraphy Rose because someone mentioned on yesterday’s thread…
It is quite similar to Rose Flash to me. Will have to wear side by side.
Curious how they compare in a side-by-side. I like CR and dislike RF-way too sweet for me. I think CR has more interesting bits, especially up top.
I find these two to be very different. RF is much more potent on the resins, way more potent. Just a dab will do ya!
Me too! Very very different. Even the rose is a different rose. RF is hip and daring. CR is luscious and gorgeous. Both very out there and showy, but in very different ways.
SL Vitriol d’Oeillet today. I don’t see this one mentioned much, and reviews on it seem to be very mixed, but I like it a lot.
How is it’s staying power? I think I recall it being very weak for me, although I love carnation!
I get decent staying power from it, but it is quiet.
I like and wear Vitriol d’Oeillet from time to time but I agree with floragal – it doesn’t stay on for too long. But if you like it, here’s a great chance to get it really cheap – $39.95 with free S&H (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Vitriol-D-Oeillet-by-Serge-Lutens/37653554 ).
Holy crap. I’m slightly tempted to blind buy that because it’s so cheap.
Wow I woudn’t have thought to look there. I got my bottle from Amazon, and I thought I was getting a good deal at $60-ish. I had a gift card so it wasn’t my money anyway..heh.
I have and like it as well. It lasts fairly long on me when some frags fade quickly. I should compare it to the Prada for bed time.
In Le Labo Labdanum 18 I got from NST. Love its warm, resinous smokiness.
Today after work we had a gooodbye party for our colleague who decided to change jobs. It was a nice and fun time!
Love those little work interludes! Helps break up the day.
After scrubbing off a mistake this morning, which made me late for work, I’m in 31 Rue Cambon EDT. This is some serious perfume!
You smell wonderful.
No Guichards within easy reach and since reading this morning that Laurie Erickson of SSS has evacuated her home, I’ve chosen Champagne de Bois because trees, and champagne, and Laurie who is such a sweet soul as so many of us know. Big hugs to everyone affected by the fires, and prayers that we will all continue to come together to help one another and take care of our lovely planet and its beloved wildlife and nature.

I saw that too — keeping fingers crossed (lot of good that will do, but…) that her house is unscathed.
🙁 I went to her website yesterday expecting to see an update, and didn’t see one. Didn’t know she had a blog, but I suppose I should have. I’m so happy they are safe.
Once her business is back up and running, I guess I’ll have a good reason to buy all the SSSs I’ve been longing for over the past year.
It’s Friday here already – yay! I’ll be wearing Chinatown, the only Guichard I have. I’m having a day off work, I felt the urge for a long weekend and took the opportunity when I realised yesterday that there was nothing that couldn’t wait till Monday.
I am having an early start regardless, I’m taking the car in for repair as it’s started making a disturbing rattling sound. That’s not surprising, my car is 25 years old, but I hope it’s OK, because I like it, and getting another one will make a horrible hole in my perfume budget.
Wow, 25 years old! You must take very good care of your car. I’ve been putting off buying new for the same reason. ????
I managed to make mine last 15years, but had to break down last spring and get a new to me car:(
You smell lovely. CAL is a favorite of mine. AA sells a 15 ml travel size on their website, which I own. I opted for the smaller size because I don’t spray a lot when I wear it and I have too much perfume. ????
Oops…this comment is for Calypso.
Thanks!
Thinking of Laurie Erickson, the owner and the nose behind Sonoma Scent Studio, who had to evacuate yesterday from her house in Sonoma (she’s fine; and her house – as of this morning – was still intact), tried before shower to put on Fireside Intense but it was too intense for this day. Wearing Bvlgari Black because all I (or anybody else) can smell from it at this point is a nice vanilla – because of the awful smoke scent in the air that gets inside everything :(. Our air is officially “Unhealthy” (particles (PM2.5) – 158 where I am). Why can’t we get some rain – it would have helped everyone…
Thinking of you all, wish I had something more comforting or helpful but that’s all I’ve got.
I don’t know… Maybe if we all do some type of a rain dance, it’ll help?
As bad as it smells and feels here, I want to cry every time I think about how it is just 70-100 miles away from here, in all of my favorite places I visited on so many happy occasions. Poor people who lost everything in a blink of an eye!
Hurricanes, shootings, now fires… It seems like we all can’t catch a break. Sad.
As overwhelmed by everything as I’ve been feeling (hurricanes, shootings, fires, as you say), it makes me feel better that I am not alone in feeling overwhelmed.
I can’t imagine putting on Fireside Intense right now. It’s basically what the air smells like already.
Actually, it helps when people share your concerns and sympathize. So let’s keep each other sane.
I had an urge to see how it would smell today but I suspected I wouldn’t be able to pull it off – hence “before the shower” part. On the other hand, that Vitriol d’Oeillet would smell just lovely, especially for that price… 😉 (just teasing)
It’s breaking my heart. I got married in Healdsburg 20 years ago next week. Our pastor friend is on alert and seven families in his church family have lost their homes. Hard being so far away.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
I would wear that pink t-shirt! It made me smile.
EdM was mentioned yesterday, so I brazenly spritzed then spent last night reeking of it. I dabbed a bit more today. It smells different when dabbed. More woods.
Last June Persolaise interviewed Nathalie Feisthauer about AdV Pelargonium. There’s an interesting mention of EdM at the end of the article.

I like the para up above where she says “Light Blue, in a way”!
I thought that, too. Light Blue is in a class unto itself.
Heart is breaking & goes out to all those devastated by the fires in CA. When will it end?!! Our country has taken quite a beating this year. No easy solutions either..
SOTD: Safran Troublant for it’s cozy/comforting scent.
With this came in shower gel and lotion too!
Cool weather with off and on showers for my area. It’s been a moody day.
SOTD = Madonna’s Truth or Dare, from the sample stash. It’s going into the “Give” pile. I’ve tried it a few times, in different weather, and it just doesn’t work for me. One of my friends might like it…
SOTD is “Casbah” from Robert Piguet, by Aurelien Guichard.
Top: angelica root, black pepper and nutmeg;
Mid: incense, orris and tobacco;
Base: cedar and vetiver.
A good, cool-inflected incense. I might get a larger decant of this.
* de la ONU – sheesh!
You should have heard the interaction between me and my Spanish class taking son over this. Me: what does this say? Son: just translate it mom. Me:no just tell me what it says. Son, reads it to me in Spanish. Me: in English! Tell me in English! Lol, at least he came out of his room.
Heh, self gifting yourself Bandit from the same store in Malaga where you bought Fracas. Amiright? High school and college Spanish learner here…I had to drop the Spanish literature class my junior year as it conflicted with a required course for my major.
Friday here but I don’t have any of the community project scents so wearing La Fille de Berlin to carry me through to the weekend. Hope everyone has a good day today.
Started the day in Chinatown. Got two samples with my Sephora order, Nirvana Amethyst and Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede. Amethyst I like, the cedar bothers me a little. The Jo Malone I do like more than Amethyst, and even more so as the JM settles.
I am in Bulgari Black today. I love this one.
I meant to note about my time in Korea that while the big department stores certainly carry any perfume you’d want (well most designer stuff and some Byredo, Diptyque, etc), the smaller cosmetic stores and chains only carry what we would consider light and fresh. Kenzo Flower, CK One, Miss Dior, Fresh stuff, etc. Just an observation as I was out and about.
I love Korean foods — bulgogi (sp) and fish cake are my favorites! Also like a Korean beer, Hit I think it’s called? How are you liking New Mexico?
I am LOVING it! The weather is so wonderful and the scenery is also. It’s the Balloon Fiesta this week- about 500 hot air balloons lift off every morning and it is truly spectacular!
I love Korean food as well and I stuffed myself the whole time I was there. I was proud of my 18 year old son, he didn’t ask for a cheeseburger even once. 😉
You smell great, triplet 🙂
Cuir de Lancôme, which is such a comfort scent. The opening is not my favorite part, but then it shocks me with beauty as time passes.
SOTD = Hermes Kelly Caleche Extrait
Over-sprayed and loving it. It is deeper leathery Iris than the EDP. Fragrantica lists vanilla for the EDP but not for the Extrait but my nose detected vanilla….
I have some Guichards (FB, decants and samples) bit will likely skip the challenge tomorrow. I have a date with Coromandel as it lost out to Kelly Caleche Extrait.
Also meant to wish the best for everyone near or far but suffering the smoke.
And Pulled Pork Day? Coincidentally, I had some at dinner 🙂
