Thursday scent of the day 10/5

Posted by Robin on 5 October 2017 215 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday, and happy World Teachers' Day! We're expecting the Harvest Moon tonight. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in big lily with Lush Death & Decay.

Reminder: on 10/6, wear a fragrance with lily, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

The new puppy has me out in the backyard all hours of the night. The moon was gorgeous already. I was thinking it must be full moon to be that bright but thanks to you, I know it will be tonight!

Making applesauce with my class today so I wore my gourmand fragrance, Hedonist. Honey goes well with apples right?

I just bought another partial bottle of vintage extrait on ebay and it arrived today. It had leaked a little in the package, and my daughter wrinkled her nose at it. This bottle is a bit, um, riper than my other one. I didn’t remember civet in it, but this one smells civetty.

That is a beautiful picture! The moon last night was gorgeous. I will pay closer attention to it tonight.

I am in O de Lancome. I had 7 sprays. I just needed something citrusy, bright and strong to make me cope with another busy day. Having my second cup of pumpkin coffee and looking forward already for the long holiday weekend.

Today’s Atelier is Santal Carmin. I skipped Rose Anonyme, because I wear it regularly. I thought that the vanilla in this one would give me a problem, but it is well balanced by the sandalwood, so it isn’t bothering me. I love sandalwood.

“There’s a perfume we created called Santal Carmin and I had one person in mind when making it and it was Steve Jobs. It’s a very bold, unexpected scent with lots of character and a soft side that you don’t really see,” she dishes. “To create it, we used sandal which is a very warm, sweet scent and mixed it with saffron which is very spicy. Putting the two ingredients together gives something that doesn’t exist and Steve Jobs was the person I pictured. We always write stories and this story is somehow this perfume is an homage to him” she reveals.

        Wow. This story must sell.

At our English class we were deciding which book to read next. I wanted for us to read Great Gatsby and so I said hat it’s a favourite of Bill Gates.

Every boy in class supported my choice, although no one of them knew who the heck Fitzgerald was :)))))

Well, in my country we have Mark Twain and O’Henry included in school international literature program.
But other American writers are …to discover yourself.

            I don’t think it’s really that sad.
Russian literature is hardcore enoughth :)

          • Robin says:
            5 October 2017 at 4:22 pm

Indeed, and schools here include woefully little Russian literature.

        • Undina says:
          5 October 2017 at 4:57 pm

I wasn’t referring to the fact that authors weren’t included into the curriculum. I realize that there are many more writers and books, great and famous, than any one person can read or than can be included into any literature course. But the fact that the name of one of the American greatest writers itself is not recognized -this is what I consider to be a sad state of modern culture/education. But I’m just being grumpy. You contributed your part to their education :)

Thanks! I actually thought that when I smelled Superstitious but I don’t have any to do a side-by-side. I didn’t love the FM and I love Ella. I think Ella is softer and less aggressive and the sweaty note is more a suggestion in Ella where it was too prominent for me in Superstitious.

Fendi Theorema from a decant. Love it. I’m guessing no bottles to be found. I ordered a decant of Armani Prive Ambre Soie – by the same perfumer as Theorema and it is a “smells like” on Fragrantica. Any opinions? I’d rather have theorema but if AS is a close match that will be nice. Have a great day!

It’s probably just my wonky nose. The listed notes don’t align very well, but it’s the overall vibe of one that reminds me very strongly of the other. Soft mix of floral and spice, with something like licorice or anise, and some creamsicle.

SOTD Never Never Land by Smell Bent. I quite like it. Although the SB website states:

“fun facts: australians call the vast expanse of the outback the “never never”

Since I’m a USAer, I always think of Michael Jackson when I hear the title. I need to broaden my horizons????

Lol. Really?? We call it the outback. Never never is a very old-fashioned term, probably not so much in use now as the days of technology shrink the world we live in. Maybe it’s used to refer to certain geographic places, but none here in WA, and we are a pretty vast area of nothing! Maybe the folks at SB think we have kangaroos jumping down the street too…

totally off topic but I have to tell you that I enjoyed Corisca F immensely …so much so that I looked up the notes…and then went off on a tangent looking up mastic e.o. as that appears to be the star ingredient….I would like to sample some mastic and see if I can make my own e.o. blend….I don’t think I would have tried CF had it not been for you :)

I was planning to wear Zoologist Panda today since it has a lily note, but I couldn’t find my sample. Instead I’m wearing Cartier L’Envol again, at least partially because I knocked the bottle off my dresser this morning. It was in the box but the top was open. I was checking it because I was afraid the sprayer was broken, and I ended up spritzing myself in the face.

Eventful 24 hours so far, chubby Buddha injured himself, I think he will loose 2 finger nails since there is blood underneath the nail. He climbs and then he falls..repeat…life of a toddler. After this fall, he screamed at an octave so loud I think only dogs could hear…

Then we had a guest for breakfast and I managed to wake up and make scones, and served them with clotted cream and strawberry preserves after a sleepless night of odd dreams..

This morning I went with Songes and served this scones with Thé des Lumières from MF.

Robin we have a nice view of the moon at night so I will check out the harvest moon if I am not passed out by 7pm!

Today I’m wearing Stella because someone mentioned it the other day and I’d forgotten that I have it. It’s a rather voluptuous rose. I like it but don’t think it’s “me.” Tomorrow I’ll have to sort through my perfume cabinet again to find something with lily. Some cleaning-out is in order at some point… after the kitchen, the garage, the study…

You smell great! I actually found Stella to be way too sweet on me after an hour or so, but man is that bottle gorgeous. I compromised by buying a rollerball (which comes in the same beautiful ombre amethyst as the full size) and putting it on after showering/before bed at night, that way I can still enjoy it, but don’t have to bear the drydown on myself!

    SotM = Lys 41

Mostly tuberose and lily, so far I like it. Lately I crave tuberose in perfume. It feels comforting.

Yesterday was free admission day for seniors at our local public aquarium. My mom wanted to go and asked me to drive. We had a nice outing together. It was life affirming to see people out and about, enjoying the beautiful ocean life.

Wishing all the educators a good day. Every day is Teacher Day in my book. I’m off to my daughter’s IEP meeting this morning, feeling grateful for the many hands, hearts, and minds that have engaged her and helped her grow.

why don’t I wear it more often?

it’s such a gorgeous leather & powdery iris scent.

And it’s Mick Jagger’s signature scent according to some celebrity favorite fragrances list.

One of the benefits of getting out of work at 8pm is that I get to gaze at the moon every night during my walk home.

I don’t think I have any lily scents in my collection. Instead, I’m testing Alyssa Ashley Musk – a sample that I added onto my latest fragrancenet order. I’ve been on a major musk kick lately, and this is a nice one. It’s quiet and has just a bit of sweetness and floralcy to it. Perfect for work.

Hello, all. So, Friday. I should be wearing a lily. I have Baiser Vole in the extract and the EDT, and both are pretty, but I’m not in the mood for them. Also, I’m having lunch in a garden cafe, and real flowers will be enough delight. I’m wearing Santal Massoia, and its abstract sharpness is perfect. Later on, if it follows its usual patter, it will throw quite masculine on me, and I like that ambiguity too.

I also smell sardines, and I’m hoping I don’t smell OF sardines. It turns out that Eric has giardia, and we’re giving him 1.3mls of a standard cattle drench every day. Apparently it tastes rather icky (how do people find these things out?) and I’m mixing it with sardines to disguise the taste. He turns out to love sardines with the fiery passion of ten supernovas, so it’s no trouble to get him to take his meds. And no, I hasten to add that neither the dear man nor I have giardia symptoms. Apparently cat giardia is for cats and human giardia is for humans. We hope that when we beat the problem of the dicky tummy, he will grow faster. The Brown Bros are way ahead of him now (about 600grams heavier). He is fierce (and sweet), but small.

Be well, all. I love your perfume choices.

I’ve been really enjoying V&A Orchidee Vanille recently . It seems far more edible, like hard toffee-sugar ( bit like Prada Candy ) now than when I first tried it. It’s quite light though and the orchid only smiles weakly. I’ve been thinking more and more about plants and at what point ( if there is a margin) they slip from the purely botanical ( growing in the wild) to the cultural ( invested with ritual/ cultural significance )…and can people ‘claim’ cultural/ traditional ownership and at what point is cultural appropriation a possibility. Something like Sweetgrass/Buffalo grass would be an example

Have you heard of a field of study called ethnobotany? It’s like the lovechild of anthropology and botany and I’m no expert, but it seems to be out to answer exactly the kind of question that you just asked – at what point does a plant gain cultural significance? My secret dream career – if it didn’t involve at least one more advanced degree – is to be an ethnobotanist.

I think 3 sprays- …one on wrists, one on bottom of pony-tail, and one on fabric of shirt ( so I could see how it develops on each surface ,of course ;)) ..might have been a bit much at once. But I am getting the whole experience. Good thing I’m home today! Literally wafting clouds of tropical gorgeousness here.
I’ll have to report back as it develops.

Dentist visit #2 today. Temporary crown in place. Got a compliment of the “you smell nice,” variety on my Mariella Burani from the dentist! Taz’s 17th birthday today; Gaze will turn 19 next week.

Happy birthday to you’re children! Two of mine had birthdays on the 17th and 18th September, there is a 12 year age gap between them. Perfume compliments are always such a mood booster!

I couldn’t fall asleep last night until 2, so I’m feeling rather woozy this morning and lilies were the last thing on my mind. I went for Shalimar Mexique and it is turning out to be a splendid choice.

You smell great! I got Coven overload from making a couple of decants, got it all over my hand, then opened the back door, getting it on the door knob. Took me a while to figure out why I could still smell it days later. There are worse things to smell like..

At a physio appointment, so in a light spray of Jour d’Hermès Absolu, which shouldn’t be too overwhelming.

Like foxbins, I was awake until the wee hours of the morning. Feeling overtired and wound up. I started with a spritz of Tuscan Leather but I think I’ll have a wash and switch to Mon Precieux Nectar for the evening.

Looking forward to catching a glimpse of the Harvest Moon tonight, weather permitting. Darn clouds…:<

Commando again today. I'm not quite ready for perfume just yet. Maybe over the weekend?

Pixel kitty escaped from the cone of shame again early this morning. She has to wear that thing until her stitches come out Monday afternoon. The other two cats are absolutely terrified of her while she is in said get-up. One ran away and has been avoiding her like the proverbial plague, while the other one stares warily and hisses a lot. C'mon, kitties, hang in there!

Aww. Poor kitty. Cats ate nit cooperative patients. My cats avoid or hiss at each other if one has been to the vet. I think it’s the smell.

I can’t even imagine having a cone of shame on a cat. Your whole family will have PTSD! There must be some other way…

Would be nice if there was another way, but I really don’t want her messing with and/or licking her sutures. This is one of the cloth ones, not the clear plastic. Not sure which would be less of a hassle.

Aww, poor kitty! Where is the incision? Is it somewhere where you could potentially put a t-shirt (don’t laugh, it’s a thing!) on and she wouldn’t be able to get to it? Is it a soft e-collar (one that’s not made of hard plastic)? If not, could you get one? As a former veterinary surgical assistant and owner of a cat who had to have critical surgery himself, I feel your pain! You’re in the home stretch though at least!

No incision, but there are sutures in the cat’s… ummm… rear end. She is wearing a soft e-collar, but it might be too big for her, which may explain the two successful escapes out of it so far. She ends up having a gait that looks like something out of Monty Python’s “Ministry of Silly Walks” skit.

Not sure if this is a viable option but we put our cat in a baby sleeper after surgery so he wasn’t able to lick the sutures; plus it was kind of adorable. The cone thing wasn’t working for us either.

It was pretty easy to put on and the snaps were easy to get him in and out.

Your poor baby! Sending healing thoughts; hope she’s feeling better soon!

Wearing PHLUR Olmsted and Vaux today because I am wearing blue, and when I wear blue (approximately 50% of my waking life, admittedly), I feel like I should wear fresh scents to coordinate, and this fits the bill nicely.

I also spent a surprisingly-painless 30 minutes titling and registering my new motorcycle (coincidentally also blue) at the DMV today. This is relevant because despite the fact that O&V is my favorite of my PHLUR samples, my new bike is eating all of my spare cash right now, which means I won’t be buying full bottles of anything for a while. :/

Hooray and respect for teachers across the globe! My mom taught physics and chemistry for a year before she had my older sister.

    SOTD = Guerlain Angelique Noir

    Spicy woody nutty vanilla. Love!

So, I am debating about what to wear tomorrow. It has lily (!) but it is not a Guerlain but could pass for one. Care to guess? Both the brand and perfume name have a D in it :-)

Something urged “Amouage Gold Man” on me this morning, so I went with it. Lady friend at work sniffed my wrist and said, “Ooh, that’s so soft!” I cannot interpret some perfume language…it’s so frustrating when someone describes what you’re wearing in inexplicable terms:
“It’s a mild smell…” What does that mean?

Settled down after exercise and shower tonight with Aoud Lime. Really fragrant day!
