Happy National Day of Encouragement! Plus, Chocolate Milkshake Day, which is encouraging too. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur. Tea at the moment is a plain old English breakfast.
Reminder: on 9/15 we're doing edition 2 of the Picture challenge (you can see edition 1 here). Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Portraits of the *** Family, called The Family Gathering, summer 1867 - early winter 1868 by Frédéric Bazille, shown recently in the exhibit Frédéric Bazille and the Birth of Impressionism. You can read more about the painting here, and you can see a larger image here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the blue Natsume Artisan Teapot is $349 at Palais des Thés. "The Natsume teapots are designed by the famous Japanese cast iron specialist and designer, Hisanori Masuda. Simple and undecorated, this model is one of the most recent products of the artist's years-long search for purity of form."
Wearing my last drops of Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore for a warm and busy day.
You smell great!
Perfect. Get more!
I will get my hands on a decant next summer. It is really nice!
I’m in Amouage Beloved today- just pulled it out of storage now that the weather is cooler. I wanted to bring some with me for touch-ups but didn’t have a clean vial so I sprayed a little into an empty Tabac Aurea tube – should be an interesting combo!
Ah, pre-layering! Hope it works.
You smell awesome!
Good morning Y’all!
It’s cool and rainy, so I reached for Bvlgari Black. Cozy and so yummy!
Who woulda thought that a vanilla tire would be cozy and yummy? LOL!
Good to see you JadainGA, glad Irma hasn’t knocked out your electricity.
Hi! All is well….we lost power for 7 hours yesterday due to wind gusts, but no big deal. The kids were home with Dad, and played board games and burned ALL my good scented candles everywhere! LOL! We cooked by candlelight, and then actually had dinner conversation by candlelight. All in all, not bad!
Despite the storm, that actually sounds really cosy. You smell great and so does your house!
That sounds really nice. Glad you’re safe!
It is a yummy vanilla tire! You smell great!
Twins I was craving for a Black day
You smell great!
I look forward to cooler weather to wear this perfume.
You need to start thinking on replenishing your candles supply. Not that I expect more storms – just to be able from time to time to recreate that almost perfect picture of your dinner
Enjoying my last day of freedom before going back to work.
In Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa. It’s quite lovely and I was happy to learn it’s not a coffee scent.
last vacation days are bitter sweet
Please tell me that it’s not a tuberose perfume as well, and I’ll be happy with you
It’s less tuberose than I expected!
It’s not a coffee scent? I got an enormous blast of coffee from it (and not much tuberose).
I like your version more!
Phlur Greylocke…all week…needing a force field fragrance
You will be a vetiver fortress.
May the force be with you!????
Trying Vilhelm Parfumerie – Dear Polly today. Smoky black tea. Delicious.
Oh, I need to try that one.
Just ordered my sample set- woot woot! I’ve been wanting to try this one forevah!
Just a heads up… Arielle Shoshana does in fact ship to Canada. Ari tracked me down from NST to help me put my order through. Hopefully my sample set will be here this week.
I ordered one, too, online, although a note warned that orders had to be phoned in. I hope that ignoring that won’t negate my order.
I am relieved to report that the discovery sets are exempt from the requirement that we sell the Vilhelms in-store or by phone only, karen b- your order is 100% safe!
I chose my favorite from the set: Modest Mimosa! It is simply a nice smelling and real smelling mimosa with some salt. It also smells to me as if it was a Giacobetti’s fragrance.
So good. I ordered a travel spray and now almost wish I got the big bottle. Not that I need a big bottle of anything.
Triple strength coffee.
Extra long workout.
Aromatics in White Clinique.
Donatella, bless me for I have sinned.
I cannot find a heavily discounted bottle @ Marshalls and leave without it.
This is pleasant, with the herbal green patchouli of the original beneath roses, heliotrope, and Szechuan pepper. The latter note reminds me of Le Feu D’Issey.
The way my mind works, Portrait of a Lady is the scent of the painting.
19th century, portrait……
Hot tramp, I love you so
Donatello probably would want you to buy a back up bottle
Such a rebel
I just smelled L’Feu D’Issey for the first time. Quite an oddball!
I have samples of this. Agreed on how truly pleasant it is. Like it’s older sister I find that it is ‘unisex (lolwhatever) but has a freshness that lifts it above the original.
Hey, I received AIW as an extra sample in a swap last week. Will have to try it!
Made chai tea this morning and excercised my right to vote.
Started off with OJ Champca but it faded fast
SOTD is Gabrielle by chanel Delma sample
Not sure who gets the enabler pin but my lippy is Lipstick queen Medevil
It’s a great shade! I like that the color is sheer but prominent at the same time.
Have you tried any other from the brand? I have other 3 or 4 favorites from them.
no, can you tell me the ones your like?
If I can butt in, I also really like Jean Queen. For me it is a perfect “My lips but better” shade.
My absolute favorite is Hello Sailor – I’m on my third lipstick with it. Frog Prince is lovely. And Black Lace Rabbit. If you search for “Lipstick Queen” on my blog, you’ll see pictures and even an attempt of swatches
Jalapeno & Undina enabler pins!!!
For me, this is my first Lippy from this brand and I really love how it doesn’t dry out my lips
Oooh, this is either my first or second enabler pin! I’m glad to hear that Medieval worked out for you.
Isn’t that a great color? I don’t wear it often, but when I need a red, there really is no substitute.
It is! It is about the only red that I can wear, instead of it wearing me.
I love Champaca but it’s very light. I need to spray it lavishly when I wear it. Thanks for the voting reminder!!
I went at 6am and was the only one voting
I am sure my OJ sample is from you so thank you ????
I don’t remember what was in that grab bag but you’re most welcome if it was. Aedes carries Ormonde Jayne now, as does Twisted Lily!
I love Champaca but it sadly does fade fast.
What do you think of Gabrielle? I find that I like it quite a bit but Epidor by Lubin does what Gabrielle wants to do but way, way better.
What is Epidor like?
Champaca does fade but it’s so perfect while it lasts!
Robin, that is terrific choice. I love ❤️ Copal Azur- it always seems right – never boring – it is one of my favorite go- to’s, A top 5, even in the summer. I have a FB. I adore incense.
I am teetering between Elixir des Merveilles with the chocolate vibe to match our Milkshake theme or an uplifting scent like Aqua di Parma Colonia.
I would love to know what you would recommend as an encouraging Rose? I badly need one in my rotation.
Why thank you!
How about Tauer Rose Delight?
Great idea- thanks!!
This morning’s perfume is no 5 in EDP form while reading reviews of Gabrielle. After my shower, it’s going to be LADDM. LADDM is the perfect fall scent for me.
LADDM is great!
What is LADDM
Never mind, I just realized what it is Andy Tauer’s Au Coeur Du Desert.
Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain.
LADDM is so good!
Today’s scent of the day is Narcisso Bleu Noir. Bought as a blind buy, and really like this. I was never keen on the original or flankers. Has anybody tried any of the Pierre Gillaume crosiere’s? I’m really tempted by a set on bloom perfumery, £65 for 4x15ml.
I’ve only tried one, the Seychelles one, and found it screechy and synthetic.
I found a lot of them S&S.
You can get a 2ml sample set of all the Collection Croisiere and Huitieme Art scents from Pierre Guillaume – might be worth trying before going for the 15ml
Here are my notes, for what they’re worth:
Rivages Noirs – Melon and a little spice, but a slight scent.
Entre Ciel et Mer – Fresh and unusual, but ultimately doesn’t work hard enough for its living.
Foudre – a nice fragrance, sort of sweet/ sharp/ earthy, and meant to evoke the smell of champaca flowers just before a thunderstorm.
Paris Seychelles – Metallic sour notes drown insipid florals
Metal Hurlant – Smells of petrol, in a good way
Mojito Chypre – Nasty chemical strawberry
Foudre got onto my longlist; Metal Hurlant might have done but Histoire des Parfums “Petroleum” displaced it (and to be honest I then bought Gucci Guilty Absolute and have my fuel oil needs covered for the moment).
Thanks for the comments. I think I’ll give these ones a pass. I was just swayed by the price and packaging. One less confession for Donatella! ????
OJ Woman today. Lllllluurrrrrrve.
Me too! You smell fabulous!
One of my favs! I wore it a lot this past weekend. You smell divine.
Hello NST! Haven’t been here in a while but the change in seasons always seems to bring me back. Looking forward to the fall top 10s!
I’m in Hermes Cuir d’Ange today and it is just perfect.
Perfume-wise I like Fall and Winter much more than any other season… If to think about it, not only perfume-wise
Glad you could join in, and you smell fantastic!
Cuir de Russie from a sample from a generous NSTer. Oh I like this. Starts off like a Chanel, then has dried down this morning to an even better Coco Mademoiselle. I see a bottle in my future. Have a good day! ????
One of the best ever. Are you wearing the EDP?
Yes the EDP. Just one spray yesterday evening and it’s still going strong, even after my morning walk. Going to do more sprays today. How does it work on you?
I haven’t tried the EdP version yet but I love CdR EdT.
Mmm, chocolate milkshake day! Wearing a nice fresh new rose, Philosophy Rose Ballet. Pretty enough that I bought a mini at I Ulta. It goes well with last night’s Gucci Rush, which lasts through a good night’s sleep and a shower.
I bought a sample of LL Aldehyde 44 which I loved in the store and still really like, but realized it smells very similar to Chanel no 22-so I’m wearing both today. Aldehyde 44 on upper arms and no 22 on wrists. The LL is sheerer and has a hint of that woody amber present in many of the LLs. The Chanel is richer to me. Enjoying both.
Thanks for that observation. I am going to revisit the Aldehyde 44 with that in mind. My grandma always wore Chanel 22 and I love the association with it. I still have a bar of soap (of this scent) from her that I have kept for over 10 years now since she died.
That’s such a sweet association! I’ve smelled some vintage 22 (EDC) thanks to a kind NSTer and it doesn’t smell like the current version, to me anyway. I’d be curious to hear your take on it, though.
I was curious about that one Le Labo
I have so much Chanel 22 I think I am good on those type of scents for awhile
I definitely don’t need both.
“Thanks for that observation. I am going to revisit” ((c) Calypso) Chanel 22 I’ve never realized these two smelled anything alike – so now I’m curious.
Nifty connection there between 22 and 44. It makes the number nerd in me happy that the scents seem related.
Ha! I didn’t even notice that. But 22 is definitely not 1/2 as good.
Keeping it fresh in Kelly Caleche.
Meetings, meetings, meetings, run, run, run. SOTD Chanel No 19 extrait. Cheers!!!
You smell gorrrrrgeous.
This is the one I usually wear when I have “meetings, meetings, meetings”: it smells wonderful but since it’s an extrait, I’m not worried that I’d suffocate everybody in a small meeting room.
Chanel Bel Respiro. My tea is Earl Grey.
Ah, nice mix! I am just now sitting down with a cup of Keemun
Seeing lots of Chanel today. SOTD is BdI.????
Today is a unofficial chanel day on NST..seeing a lot too including myself!
I wish I got that memo! I’m craving BdL now…
wearing Joy edt from a 10 year old bottle, the top notes have turned but the dry down is OK. I’ll need to get some Joy parfum or EDP this was my moms signature when I was growing up.
Enjoy your Joy! I love it too.
Back to work from vacation, and since it was a coolish morning (58 degrees!) I chose LouLou. Maybe it is time to break out my favorite fall scents.
I’m sorry you had to come back from vacation but at least you smell great!
Good morning everyone. I hope Irma survivors are doing all right. My SOTD is Le Labo Vanille 44 which I got in the city exclusives sample set recently. I’ve kept coming back to this one in part because it’s just plain pleasant, and also because it’s got some depth and intrigue. I get a lot of the aldehydes and bergamot up front, vanilla dead center, and somewhat sweet guiac wood, but not the smoky incense that others have mentioned. Although I used to think I don’t like vanilla as a scent note, it is starting to seem as if I really do. This could be a keeper.
I have to warn you now: the more you test it, the more you’ll love it
I layer the Vanille 44 with the Gaiac 10, they smell great together.
I like that one, too. Rose 31 is growing on me as well. My wallet is quaking.
Ambre de Merveilles seems to fit the warm golden fall day we are having. Just went outside for a fire drill and had the urge to just keep walking.
I know that feeling! Fire drills are always my favorite emergency drills. I get paid to be outside in the fresh air, so I feel like I’m getting away with something.
Oh, I might wear that tomorrow! And surprised nobody escaped
You smell amazing. I love that one…
Needed something relaxing today and went for one I used to (practically) bathe in, Lolita Lempicka. The smallest spritz on one wrist is more than enough.
Tried Chanel Gabrielle this weekend at Sephora. It’s….boring? But perfectly suited to the Sephora crowd, so probably the market they were aiming for. Pretty none the less, but I think there are cheaper options that fit that bill.
Scent twins today! But I have scent-eating skin, and I’m at home, so two full spritzes of Lolita Lempicka.
We’re getting effects from Irma: gusts of wind and lots of rain. My internet (Verizon DSL, on some really old and deteriorating copper lines) may go out any minute.
Oh no! Good luck and be safe! At the very least, you smell great
Yuk on your weather. Hope things stay safe and dry.
Ugh, hope you did not lose power!
SOTD is SmellBent Hungry Hungry Hippies. Pretty sure hungry hippies would love a chocolate milkshake.
In other non-fragrance news, my house seemed to have survived Irma. I’m mailing front door keys to my neighbors so they can get inside to check for leaks, but it seems my area dodged a bullet. Still no power in the hood and my neighbors are suffering temps in the high 90’s with ungodly humidity. Luckily, they have water. Worried about the older folks and the very young, who can become overheated so quickly, especially if there is limited drinking water.
Thinking of everyone whose life may have been turned upside down by Irma.
Glad your house seems to have come through.
Just heard from my cousin, aunt, and brother in Orange County, and they are all fine, but it’s been especially hot with windows shut/boarded.
Happy to know your family is good! The heat is going to be very difficult on people. I’m really hoping they can get power up and running ASAP.
So glad to hear that your house is okay.
I checked in with friends and family in FL yesterday and all are okay except for loss of power. It was such a relief.
Yes! Happy to hear it. As mentioned above, the heat is really going to really test people. So happy I’m not there, because those temperatures with high humidity is just merciless. Standing water is going to make it worse… praying for power restoration!
What a relief! You have great neighbors to check on your house. Hope all is well!
Glad to hear everything looks okay for you and your neighbors!
Yes, it is????
What a relief that must have been for you. I hope everyone stays safe.
Nice to hear that your house is OK.
Deva, I’m so glad your neighborhood and home was largely unscathed. I’ve been through it before, and the oppressive heat and humidity combined with no power is just miserable. Hopefully the area gets A/C back very soon!
Me too! Thanks!
Wearing Pichola today as my summer holiday winds down. This past month has been such an amazing gift with perfect weather and such carefree fun, but my mind is now bracing for my new job and so much resposibility. Eek!
You’ll be great! They are lucky to have you!
You smell amazing!
Good luck for the first day of the new job!
Cold in the mornings here so I went with Cuir de Lancome.
I did that yesterday. Isn’t it wonderful when the weather favours such a great scent??
I ran out of the door this morning without perfume. OMG haha.
But I found a sample vial of Eau de Merveilles in my bag, yay, because I really needed the comfort of a good smelly aura around me today.
Crazy busy and lots of energy draining meetings. Urgh.
So, happy to be home again.
Looking forward to continue watching season 2 of The Expanse (on Netflix, great scifi series).
That happened to me yesterday: I left house without applying any perfume. I did have two small vials hidden in my cosmetics bag just for such case, so I chose one of the two to wear. Resolution? I have to have with me more choices! (and it was actually perfume, for which I have a FB and usually enjoy it – but as I discovered, only when I purposefully choose it to wear from my complete collection.)
1) Motorcycles and their deliberate noise. Last night my last nerve snapped and I went outside with my shotgun and demanded, POLITELY, that the motorcycles be used on another side street. The drivers were sufficiently cowed but we shall see.
2) As a result had trouble getting back to sleep and once I did, OVERSLEPT. ARRRRGH!
3) In Prada Oeillet after a shower with Rose Jam. The two marry perfectly.
4) Coffee and homemade breakfast cookies made by a dear friend.
Wow, a shotgun! That was determined! I hope it was effective in the long term.
We shall see. The neighborhood is a working class/poor neighborhood that is slowly turning to yuppie, so you have people who previously would do whatever and not care about how much noise they make.
I really, really care about the noise made. I REALLY DO.
Well alright bada$$ Ede !
I ain’t gonna mess witchu !
One last nerve snapped. I am actually VERY accepting of city noise. But man, unmuffled motorcycle engine noise in the middle of the night is the goddamn worse.
Ede, you are living my dream. Although my nemesis is the lawn care crew who operate several motorcycle-strength leaf blowers at the same time in an area that funnels sound to my condo. In the summer. When did leaf blowers become a year-round thing?
I HATE, HATE, HATE LEAF BLOWERS. Effing HATE them. They blow dust and leaves about, leaving clouds of crap for you to breathe it in. And never mind- looks like the dust and leaves just settle right the heck back where they were. Why sweep when you can make ear shattering noise and waste gas instead.
There are actually some US EPA regulations regarding leaf blowers because of the dust hazard. Gaah. With the lawn care companies, I’ve found what helps me is noting the start time. It doesn’t usually go on all that long. But the bikers could go on all night, I imagine. A musician told me there are hearing protectors made for drummers that will shut out anything.
Did you really take a gun out on them? And they don’t call the police? Wow.
I told them, very politely and loudly, that I would give them something to call the police about.
Kidding aside, Ede, I’m sorry you’re dealing with that maddening noise, but please don’t put yourself at risk.
The risk is there, but these guys know better to mess with a lady in a silk dressing gown and a shotgun. I was polite!
Omg, you’re the daughter my sweet gun toting, law-abiding father always dreamed of having ????
Tell your dad to stop by for game pie and a nice homemade glass of hopped cider.
My dad is no longer with us. But if he were, he’d love to come over for a visit. As a proud Texan and Air Force vet, he was fond of his right to bear arms. And any gal who could protect herself was alright in his book ????
I hear you. Last night a dog from the house on the opposite side of canal started barking at 1 in the morning. It was awful, I couldn’t sleep. But then it suddenly stopped… and the next 10 minutes I couldn’t sleep because I thought I heard some faint whimper and got concerned that somebody actually hurt the dog…
Oh dear, I would have thought the same thing.
Dogs don’t bark out of no good reason- they either need or want attention to something. Their hearing is keen and their eyesight different in the dark, so I would actually be more worried about a dog than the motorcycle (driven by an obnoxious person who does not even live on the street).
Our next door neighbour’s dog barks all the time because he needs urgent attention to his carotid artery. Grrr.
I’m your Shotgun Sister from the opposite end of the country. It’s a peace making tool for sure????
Morning, all. A sleepless night for me (now comparatively rare, thank goodness) brings me early to NST. I’m wearing the last lingering hints of last night’s bedtime scent, Divine by Divine, bought on my last trip to Paris. I don’t choose it very often, but I should amend that. It’s warm and friendly, but retains a certain self-possessed sophistication. I probably don’t wear it often because its character is so different from mine. I should strive to amend that.
I have a minor skirmish in the Kitten Wars happening on my lap. Titus has a bad habit: he likes to suck on his brothers’ fur as though he is still feeding from his mother. Alexander dislikes it, biffs him around the ear hole, and takes himself out of reach to higher ground, but Eric HATES it, and violent hostilities ensue when Titus pins him down to indulge in his little need. Right now, I’m the site of the battle. Poor Eric’s tummy fur is all tufty and soggy, and I have minor collateral damage.
Wednesdays are busy teaching days for me, so I’m going to wear En Passant, I think. Its soft lilac notes always encourage me to think of spring, and goodness knows I need to after this long dreary winter. It’s also fresh and pretty, which should keep me centred in the stuffiness of the classrooms.
Hey, be well, all.
Kitten wars. So entertaining.
You smell gorgeous, Divine is so lovely.
Oh the sucking kitty. I have one who still, at three, occasionally does it. Usually on me, but sometimes on her not very happy about it brother. At the end of the day, though, she wins all kitty wars between them, as kitty sisters are prone to do.
Such a strange behavior! I wonder if it is a sort of dominance behavior?
Sometimes kittens or cats will try to suckle if they have been weaned from their mother too early. Other times, it’s something they do to try and comfort/calm themselves.
I could really use some of that National Day of Encouragement, so I splashed on vintage Bal a Versailles in order to surround myself with olfactory perfection.
You smell awesome!
I was reminded yesterday that I have a whole slew of Ineke full bottles that ain’t gonna empty themselves. Today’s choice is Gilded Lily, which is lasting better than I remember. Maybe I oversprayed? I still smell strongly like pineapple-soaked oriental lilies in any case and I’m happy with that.
I think this one didn’t work for me when I tried it many years ago, but the bottle looks gorgeous – as all her other bottles. I really like the brand.
I wore Ostara the other night to the concert, and I enjoyed it so much I’m wearing it again.
Ostara has such a gorgeous opening. I wish they’d kept making it.
I also do not understand that particular discontinuation. The only reason I can think of is that it was too expensive (while at the regular Penhaligon’s price) for what it was, and people weren’t buying it. I bought my bottle deep discounted when they went on sale after being discontinued. And, as far as I know, many others did the same.
It was on sale almost at once, which was very confusing to me.
Philosykos EDP, which I guess matches the painting a bit – though that wasn’t my aim when I put it on.
My sample of this is dwindling. I’m going to have to decide what to do when it’s gone – maybe a tiny bottle of the EDT? Or the roll-on? I don’t really wear this in the winter, so I suppose there’s no urgency.
The oil roll-on is very nice. I have had mine for 6+ years, and no issues with souring
Thanks! You might have just made up my mind for me.
I love Philosykos. You smell super!
TM Over the Musk for me today. I have so much going on right now, but this scent makes me feel like my younger, tougher self.
Perfect! Hope it helps you deal.
Broke out the MPG Racine yesterday. It’s just a little bit too masculine for me normally, but perfect in the fall when thoughts turn to tweeds, leather, and boots.
I am not ready for tweeds, leather and boots! I want my Indian Summer!
Good point — I haven’t yet had the late summer/early fall dry weather when I like to wear AG Eau du Sud.
Penhaligon’s Ostara, great if you need some added sunshine. I still don’t understand why this one was discontinued.
I just left a comment on the topic a couple of comments above!
You smell sunny!
I noticed after I had posted my comment that I wasn’t the only one today wearing this gem. I guess jonquille isn’t everyone’s idea of fun.
I tried Penhaligon’s Lady Blanche last week and that has a similar jonquil/narcissus note to Ostara. Might be worth testing? I liked it.
Taking advantage of the last hot days (unusually hot for that time of the year), I’m wearing Jo Loves No. 42 Flower Shop. Since I kept it in the fridge, on spraying I had full illusion of walking into a florist fridge.
That sounds perfectly marvelous.
Super tired today after a short night up taking care of sick doggie. Fortunately she seems all better today. Must have eaten something she shouldn’t have.
I am sampling JM Black Cedarwood & Juniper today. Pleasant and innocuous.
Glad puppy is feeling better.
Of course, she gets to sleep all day
Sending good wishes to you and your girl!
Hope your doggie gets better soon!
Oh no. Hope puppy improves rapidly.
I hope pupper continues to feel better, and that you get good sleep tonight!
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts! She seems fine now. I on the other hand plan to go to bed early, doused in Coromandel.
I am SO glad your pup is feeling better.
SOTD is Mohur EDP. Love it, but hope it’s not too much for an eye appointment later on. Lunch was delicious homemade egg rolls that a patient’s wife made. She is Filipino. Really sweet of her. They were all rolled up and I just stored them in the freezer until they were ready to fry. Probably overdid it, but it was worth it. Now waiting for banana bread to bake, which hopefully cancels out the hot oil smell from the egg rolls!
You smell amazing!
Mmm, lumpia and banana bread, sounds like a great meal!
Bois des Iles day two, and so worth it.
Thanks for the advice yesterday on preventing oxidation!
A spring day here – blue sky, sunshine, just lovely, though still quite cold. I’ll celebrate with Chamade.
A perfect Chamade day!
MFK Petit Matin today.
I kept seeing a commercial this morning for the Coffee Mate ‘seasonal flavors’. Aside from the fact that it’s not even October yet, it’s still 104° here. Psst, advertising guys: I don’t want pumpkin-spice anything right now. ????
Yeah, it’s too soon for pumpkin stuff for me too.
I’d like pumpkin spice year round please! But, more than liking the actual flavor, I think I like it because it’s a harbinger of fall, which is my favorite season. There’s something about snuggling up in a sweater, drinking a hot pumpkin spice anything, or eating a hot pumpkin spice anything (preferably a scone!) that makes me feel so contented, happy, and centered. I have no idea why, but I long for it all year.
My local bakery in San Diego makes delicious pumpkin cranberry scones with maple icing. Can’t wait!
The opening of Petit Matin is in my top 10! I wish i could have a bottle of just the opening notes.
I’m joining dstsauve and Mals today in Lolita Lempicka. I have four or five licorice/anise scents but I wear this one more than the others.
Fall is coming here, there are leaves falling from my maple tree and soon they will be ankle-deep and it will be time to rake. I like raking in the cool, crisp autumn air, there is something relaxing about the rhythmic repetition.
Happy your heat wave said adios! Maple leaves in the fall are stunning. Happy raking✌????
I dread raking leaves ????
Wearing Mem today with much pleasure.
Mmmmm…you smell gorgeous
Dzing! today – I wanted something a bit frivolous to counteract the seriousness of everything these days. I smell amazing, and I get to think of the circus. Big win!
Dzing! makes me smile every time.
I’m still upset I hadn’t bought a 50 ml bottle of it when it was still available. 100 ml of any perfume nowadays is too much for me, and I know that Dzing isn’t the one, in particular, that will get too many wears from me. But I like it very much.
Love the color of the teapot of the day, Robin!
Back to testing samples from the stash today. SOTD = Rain Day, from Derek Lam 10 Crosby. Nope!
ha! It’s can be fun to sniff something new and quickly realize it’s a great big “nope!” Then I smile and say “next!”
That’s what I used to do with men. ????
It makes sense to be decisive!
I couldn’t find one Derek Lam that worked for me. Have you?
I “sort of, kind of” liked Blackout. But that perfume is too expensive for “sort of, kind of”.
Isn’t that pretty? Crazy price though.
It’s one of my favorite shades of blue. However, I did not pay attention to the price tag at first… got a jolt when I saw the number. Yowza!
SotD = Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur
When I first spritzed CdP it smelled so strongly of terragon that I almost tossed the decant. But my love for colognes is so strong I saved it for a another hot day. Turns out it’s a keeper.
Last night I ended a 24 hour break from media and from fragrance, a much-needed mental and emotional clearing of the decks so to speak. It is great to be back with NST. It is especially good to hear news from those who have suffered adversity in recent days. Thank you for keeping us updated amidst more urgent concerns.
Love that blue teapot! It reminds me to get back to watching the Amazon Prime Japan series. There are a couple episodes devoted to design, and there is at least one part about teapots.
You smell like a fabulous summer day! ❤️ CdP
oh, thank you, you’ve perfectly summed up Cologne du Parfumeur. It’s just so good.
Ooh, that series looks good! You like it?
I do like the Japan series. Each episode is interesting, and there’s no need to watch them in order. The visuals are well done and the information is presented with care and thoughtful attention to detail. The narration is given alternately in English and Japanese. I adore listening to spoken Japanese (with English subtitles on).
Great, adding it to my watch list!
I’m wearing Hermes Sur le Toit, working on using up my decant. I think it will live to see another day, but I’m getting close! It’s a fine, pleasant scent, and it layered nicely over last night’s remnants of Figue Amere.
Yum – one of my loves from that series! You smell great
Curiosity got the best of me and I tried a spritz of the Vince Camuto Ciao sample that came with my Ulta order today. First impression, “this isn’t that bad????” I could imagine it on young girls. But after an hour of yard work and no quieting down, I went inside to scrub it. And even after much scrubbing, I can still smell it. It’s plutonium strength! Yikes????
Oh that’s a bummer!
I’ve been commando most of the day, went to the chiropractor and then was just too distracted.
Making up for lost time . . . wafting big time in Chantecaille Vetyver and Kalimantan. Hubster picked up on the new fragrance from another room. Whoa.
Oh, and I do so love that teapot. We need to paint our house (interiors) so badly, and I want that teapot and matching blue walls in my kitchen. Seriously, it would be awesome.
Both of those scents are quite potent. I can smell you from here!
Indeed, I have gassed myself out. ????
Masque Milano Luci ed Ombre – quite sweet floral incense that reminds me of woodcut once it dries down (sweet woods).
You smell fabulous. Luci ed Ombre is beautiful.
Santal Majescule today for a famp and windy spring morning. Is it Friday yet? This seems like it has been the longest week ever…
I was thinking that the week was dragging, too. I have been tossing up whether I should buy Santal Majescule. Do you wear it often?
I have worn it once a week for the last couple of months because it really suits that late winter / early spring crisp feeling the weather has. I’ve actually just purchased a full bottle myself (but it hasn’t arrived yet – still using up my 2ml sample/decant).
Wearing Bal a Versailles by Jean Desprez for today’s very hot muggy SF weather. I’m in the skank/powder dry down phase now. I am getting some looks from coworkers, but oh well!
Cute kitty! SmokeyToes sends his hellos.
Feeling nostalgic today as I read about the crisp air and falling leaves in other parts of the country. I grew up with 4 seasons and now live in the desert. September used to be my favorite month and is now my most hated as we usually are still in triple digits and I just want the heat to be over already. But, when I sit out on my patio at Christmas in a balmy 70 degrees, I’ll remind myself why I live here.
Chanel No5 EDP today. I love this in all weather and occasions, but it felt like a good autumnal choice.
Waft a little this way! No. 5 edp makes me happy all year.
And I agree, September is better when it’s autumnal rather than a sucker punch of hot weather. But I can take the heat in exchange for a mild Christmas day.
It is so nice to come here and see all the familiar “faces” commenting!Perfumelover67 and Chocolatemarzipan,Mals and Nozknoz to name but a few!I’ve been out of the loop for months due to work and other stuff in life!a Dental procedure which left me with a gigantic hole from mouth to sinus caused huge health problems and affected my sense of smell for a couple of weeks. It’s getting better though and the big problem has been sorted at least.I did not wear anything today as said sinuses are still stuffy and blocked.
I did smell some new goodies, but have to say Gabrielle was a big disappointment after all the excitement. My best purchase recently was TF Tobacco Vanille body spray.A huge can of it,much cheaper than the perfume, but lovely and effective! And it does not turn sour on me like the perfume does.Score!Another beautiful find for this Iris-loving perfumista has been the Zegna Aqua d’Iris.Pretty good watercolor iris, but the “artist” used all the brightest colors in their palette.LoveLove.Can’t wait to smell Gaultier Scandal, being a lifelong fan of the man and his fashion/perfumes.Hope everyone has an awesome week!X
So glad to see you!, very sorry to hear you’ve suffered some health issues. I wish you better health. I’m also very interested in smelling Scandal, but doubt I will see it around here. Take care.
Welcome back Johanob! We missed you! I am so sorry about your health issues and hope you have a speedy recovery.
I am an iris lover and definitely need to try Aqua d’Iris soon. After 28 La Pausa which I adore, I have not found another iris that moves my heart the same. I have tried many that I love, but I am still in that search…
Take care and be well!
Hey there! It’s good to hear from you. So sorry to hear about your scary-sounding dental procedure, though. I hope it’s healing up all right.
Dental problems are not fun. I hope that the worst is behind you.
I’m eyeing that TF body spray. I’m tempted but I’m not sure for how long those can survive compared to perfumes.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
Same thing tomorrow.
People are losing it. They’re speaking as if tomorrow is already Thursday, but no, if yesterday was Monday, September 11, today is September 12 and a Tuesday, then tomorrow is Wednesday. Right, right? The problem is that most of us worked for 3 weeks straight including weekends (although I had a mini hiatus for my uncle’s memorial service last weekend). Anyway, I will be escalating tomorrow. Maybe it will be a 10 spritz day. I probably should switch to 28 La Pausa EDT to avoid gassing others, including myself!
OMG. I truly hope that you get a break soon… that kind of schedule can chew people up and spit them out.
At least you smell freaking awesome. Agree with Jalepeno, hoping you get some rest.
You smell great! But you need to pace yourself – with the number of sprays and days/hours worked. I hope it goes back to the normal level of crazy soon.
(I have to admit that earlier today I wished that tomorrow was Thursday already )
I’m on travel for work and am commando! I forgot perfume at the crack of dawn this morning, but you all smell super good!
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my son yesterday. He’s pretty awesome!
